YOU!!!!!!
see, i was joking with my friends. saying “what if my neighbour[s] find me through my post on tumblr.” and foolish me said “nah, that’s crazy. tumblr is vast. and i barely tagged the post. what are the chances that they’d ever see it!!”
and then apollo one-hit ko’ed me with that dodgeball of prophecy
ʸᵉˢ ᶦ ʷᵒᵘˡᵈ ᵃᵇˢᵒˡᵘᵗᵉˡʸ ˡᵒᵛᵉ ᵗᵒ ʰᵃⁿᵍ ᵒᵘᵗ ˢᵒᵐᵉᵗᶦᵐᵉ
so my apartment building got a notice board to post fire alarm tests and maintenance announcements and such. the building is pretty well-maintained, so we rarely get notices. the board is big and grey and to think it would be empty like that 99% of the time was a bland boring sin i just couldn't bear, so i vandalized the corner of its empty canvas with a teeny tiny Guy
and within a few days, there was a sudden addition from my one of my neighbors along with a Bunch of thumbtacks. this was an unexpected, but welcome surprise!
well there was still so much space, i figured i'd add another crumb to the art hoard. i'd been playing genshin that day so i drew my favorite grandpa
and like clockwork, new art manifested!! this person is gonna grow to be a great artist i know it. the detail in those stones? hell yeah that's cool.
we're two weeks into it. more neighbors have joined in with their artwork. who knew there were so many artists in my building?? we're onto somethin great here i just know it.
#I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS#AT ALL#[respectfully] OH MY GOD#also joked: haha what if we saw my neighbor[s] cosplaying in the wild and we never knew#or at a con and we never knew#and i#am not ready#for that second dodgeball#because statistically#if you go to genshin#you PROBABLY go to the local cons too#weeping this is incredible

Friendly reminder that if you talk about how representation is important and how there's not enough diverse media, I implore you to seek out the media that already exists. And if you live in an area with a public library, go to see if they're available at your public library. And then go check them out.
As a librarian, it is demoralizing to see how low the circulation statistics are on lgbt+ books and books by BIPOC authors. I include them in displays and readers advisory, but people still don't check them out as much. Libraries only have a finite amount of resources, including space. We don't get a book then keep it forever. If not enough people check it out, we have to get rid of it to make room for more books. And when James Patterson Book #69 gets checked out 30 times in one year and cool, subversive Sci fi novel with a Black trans woman main character has never been checked out once, the librarian (me) has to make a hard decision.
If you're looking for something tangible and easy to do this pride month, look for lgbt+ books (there are millions of lists online that you can find. It's easier than it's ever been to find diverse books) and check them out from your library.
No time to read? Look for a short story or poetry anthology and just read as much as you have time for. Or just check out a book cus it looks interesting and read as much as you can. We have movies too.
As cool as it would be for me to just keep the books I want and get rid of the ones I don't, I have to listen to the community on matters of collection development. And the community tells me what books they want by checking them out and leaving the ones they don't want on the shelf.
If you think this doesn't apply to you because you live in a progressive area and obviously the books are being checked out, you're wrong. I once worked in a community with a large lgbt population. Those books were not getting checked out. If you want to tell me you live in a conservative area and your library doesn't have any diverse books, you are legally obligated to check the catalog before replying to this post. I currently work in a conservative community and we have lgbt+ and bipoc books. And if you still cannot find any, you are legally obligated to see if your library has a collection request form that patrons can fill out before replying to this post.

another super insulting part of the watcher situation i haven't rly seen ppl addressing much
ryan deadass saying smth like "nobody else on youtube has made tv quality content"
like... i really feel like it's important to highlight that bc not only do they obviously have no respect for their audience, but that statement shows they have no respect for their peers in the industry, either.
not to mention it is a shining example of bleeding arrogance to such a high degree, you will straight up fucking lie bc you're truly convinced you're that special when you're anything but.
there's been NUMEROUS online creators who were recognized by entertainment industry workers BECAUSE they made tv quality content & even full stop blockbuster quality content.
bo burnham started on youtube & is now one of the most wellknown & loved standup comedians of our generation, with numerous netflix specials & even a movie he wrote & directed under his belt.
the try guys, fellow ex-buzzfeed employees, had their own tv specials on food network (based off their youtube shows, btw) & a documentary made about them as well
rosanna pansino has also been on numerous food network shows both as a host & a judge
quinta brunsun, another fellow ex-buzzfeed employee, went on to create her own whole ass sitcom that has been highly praised
matpat cameo'd in the fnaf movie because of his theories & multiple other fnaf creators had small cameos through the employee of the month board easter egg
markiplier made multiple high-quality shows on youtube & is now working on a highly anticipated movie (he was also planned to cameo in the fnaf movie but couldn't due to conflicting schedules with his own movie)
hot ones got their own tv gameshow due to their popularity & they are still one of the most wellknown, beloved & respected internet shows
many short films made on youtube went on to premiere at film festivals & even in theaters
the hit horror film "talk to me" was created by youtubers rackaracka
webseries of actual fucking tv shows have also existed for literal decades
the list goes on.
to seriously think that overproduced bullshit is all you need to make "tv quality content" is not only tone-deaf, but shows they do not even know what they're talking about. many tv shows & huge blockbuster movies are made with absolutely microscopic budgets & small teams, & they still get praised & awarded for the passion, dedication, & creativity that shined brightly under those restrictions.
the blair witch project is probably the most wellknown & highly praised example of this, but it is far from the Only example
it is a whole other slap in the face, again ESPECIALLY when puppet history is one of their most popular shows, to spit in the face of internet history. to see the success of their predecessors, even ppl they fucking worked with at buzzfeed, & deny them of all their success & efforts to get where they ended up.
no, y'all are not the first people to make "tv quality content" on the internet. FAR from it. because your crap isn't even genuine "tv quality".
but you are the first ones to ever disrespect not only your audience, but your own fucking industry & your peers on this level.
& you are the first & i sorely hope the only fuckwads dumb enough to pull a stunt this fucking stupid, out of touch & utterly tone deaf.
#mine#watcher#sorry this is hopefully my last post but this pretention grated me#& im floored nobody has mentioned it#like sincerely how fucking dare you? what the fuck is wrong with you?#how far up your ass is that building long stick???#not to mention youtube is 18 fucking years old.#it is literally statistically impossible for a website as huge as youtube is to exist that long#& never have any 'tv quality' content on it. be mother fucking serious.#many ytbers were recognized by entertainment industry marvels BECAUSE they made content that was already tv quality#fuck off.

Here we go again, more stats of Ethogirls and Etho
Some things to note:
They each have a different numbers of episodes out, so in order to keep this fair I took the total of times they say a Hermits name and then graphed what the distribution is
I have not counted their own names in these graphs because I didn't count how many times Etho said his own name (my bad)
Both Bdubs and Joel say their own names more than any other name (I will include their graphs with the stats that include their own names under this)
Etho and Bdubs mention each other the most, and Joel mentions Gem the most and Gem mentions Grian the most
Etho barely says Joel's name in his videos, which is kinda funny to me, Bdubs says Joel's name more often than Etho, both in raw numbers and when put into percentages
Joel, of all the three Ethogirls, says Etho's name the least in his videos compared to how often he says other Hermit's names
Grian is the only Hermit Gem has mentioned in every single one of her episodes so far
I will reblog this post with the raw data so people can double check my measurements
I give my full permission to post this stuff on twitter as long as you don't tag the creators or anything
So if Joel, Bdubs's or Gem's own names are included in their stats, these are their graphs:
In conclusion, Etho is a Bdubs fan first and foremost Bdubs is the biggest Ethogirl so far Joel is a Gemboy and the least Ethogirl of the Ethogirls Gem is a Grian fan
#that's all I think#someone please give me a good argument for why I should post this on Reddit because I am on the fence#I love statistics (lie)(truth)(lie)(truth)(#hermitcraft#hermitcraft season 10#hermitcraft s10#ethoslab#bdoubleo100#bdubs#bdoubleo#joel smallishbeans#smallishbeans#geminitay#Grian#graph#statistics#hermitblr#boat boys#ethubs#the gingersnaps#idk Grian and Gem's duo name#nor do I know Gem and Joel's

sure it was a perfect storm of a pressure cooker but i promise destiel was about destiel
#like 2020 was all building towards something. the isolation the pandemic the general uncertainty of day to day life#toss in the heated election and counting process. sure it *couldve* been anything else. but it *wasnt*.#it was destiel. that night there were even other rumours circulating about other shows. another show even had a huge reveal!#but the most widespread and known was destiel because of course it was! because thats what everyone was losing their mind over!#look at the statistics chart of a history of destiel interest over time! i promise the destiel interest is about destiel!#were people all equally invested? no! were some people memeing? yes! but by and large nov 5th became a juggernaut bc of destiel#as someone who literally was refreshing for election news and developed mania from seeing destiel go canon. it was about destiel#sure the intersection of destiel and election results was fun. but i posted way more destiel than election stuff. cause it was about destie#anyway. idk why im on a soapbox#char speaks#destielputinelection#destiel

What do you think about 5cp TF2 map Gullywash?
Getting autobalanced on Gullywash feels especially tragic.
More sketches and more impressions under the cut.
In order to draw this, I watched some highlander matches on Gullywash, due to finding no matches in competitive, and the aimbots going rampant in casual. I was only able to play 5 proper matches on casual, (2 of which my teams won purely due to team imbalance,) so some of this is based on what I saw other people were doing in competitive match recordings, as well as how it feels to play on community servers with AI train bots. No one was playing whenever I was queueing up :(
I learnt very fast that Gullywash is one of these maps where you will die a lot, or steamroll the capture points, and there is no in-between, because you either position yourself correctly or you don't. While this goes for every map in tf2, I never really felt frustrated when dying here. I could always find a reason for my mistakes and generally it turned out to be a very rewarding learning experience.
I think Gullywash is extremely fun and fast paced. I especially enjoy giving scouts and pyros overheal buffs, because of how much flanking you can do here. The symmetry of the map is immaculate and the amount of objects that just lie around allows demos to place a lot of traps and players to just hide in corners.
(Using Scouts as your Uber Driver here is also especially fun, so many near death situations!)
For some reason, the soldiers and demos who play on this map are really good at protecting medics? That's the impression I got, everyone knew when to retreat and not push, everyone turned around when they saw my health go down, everyone was shooting the spies for me when we were in the open and I was too focused with healing the people fighting death matches at the front so we could capture.
(My personal heroes who just rocket jump over to you just to shoot the spy 2m away from you, and then just rocket jump away again)
Snipers aren't much of a problem, since there are so many options for hiding properly while still being able to reach your team mates. The same sadly doesn't apply to spies and I think I have died more to spies on this maps than to sticky traps.
While I love the vaccinator, I think Stock and Kritz are the better options on this map. Nothing cries geneva convention war crime more than entering the door to the last capture point and ubering a soldier who starts spamming everyone with rockets in this rather crammed up room where everything can give you splash damage.
Shoutout to a pyro called Joey who carried the last game I played, it was a blast ubering you through the last capture point.
#team fortress 2#tf2#tf2 medic#tf2 scout#tf2 heavy#tf2 soldier#tf2 engineer#tf2 spy#tf2 demoman#tf2 pyro#While this was super fun to assemble - drawing the backgrounds absolutely took me out here#Apologies for that scary looking picture with spy I had a very different idea for that panel but it just wouldnt turn out how I wanted it t#I'm also going to be a bit less active these coming weeks because work is getting busy#I have to redo some statistical analyses and fix an abstract and prepare a poster and then book a flight overseas I'm already tired#this makes me very sad because I have so much fun drawing these comics :(

I contemplated a few other monsters to put in the selection (raths, yian ku-ku, yian garuga, etc.) but I might save them for another fun poll. No nuance option; vote with your heart.
#of course I can't include every monster so#I'm using my own opinions on some of the fandom faves#will this cause problems? Doubtful#I just love statistics#also love hearing people's thoughts on things they love/hate about the game#monster hunter#mon hun#feel like i should add that i voted for Dodogama because i do not think it is that cute or lovable?#he is not the love of your life; he is literally just a guy; hit him with your car

Very important thing to note about the upcoming general election in the UK [4th July, register to vote now] that I was discussing with friends earlier today is that the set date feels very deliberately chosen, at least to us. In July, students [and others in that general age range] are between living places - either because they're moving from halls to a more permanent residence, or they're between residences, or they simply don't know where they will be living. Students are at home with family, under more pressure to vote a certain way and less likely to vote at all because of this. Young voices are less likely to be heard because of this. Young people who are voting for the first, second, or third time in their entire lives will find it more difficult to do so. Register to vote. Apply for a postal vote. Be heard.
#listen. i don't have sources or statistics or anything this is just what a group of twenty-something year olds was talking about today#i will be at home where politics is a bad topic of discussion and each of my parents will be trying to get me to vote a different way#some of my friends won't be able to vote because they're between addresses#and if it's like that for us we figure it's the same for a lot of students#and there's a LOT OF US#uk politics#general election

🐴✂️ Nematomorpha ~ -37
The top 3 phyla are Arthropoda, Chordata, and Mollusca!
This means Arthropoda, Chordata, and Mollusca will be moving on to Round 2, and broken up by Class (or some other phylogenetic equivalent).
But that’s not all!
After Round 2, we will have an extra Round 2.5, featuring every other phylum that received over 1,000 points! This will give some of the more highly ranked phyla a second chance to move on, and make Round 3 a little more interesting.
Round 2.5 will include Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Tardigrada, and Ctenophora.
(Unfortunately, I can’t include Onychophora as it only contains 2 families without class or order ranking, so I will have to preemptively move them forward to Round 4 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
To give myself enough time to queue up polls, Round 2 will begin November 1st.
See you then!

!!!TEA POLL!!!
(Herbal tea doesn't count, we're only counting the Camellia sinensis plant. That means black tea, green tea, pu-ehr, oolong, etc.)
I'm Canadian and my family drinks a lot of tea, but I wanna know how common it is in other countries that were British colonies, and how that compares against places that the British never stole.
Reblog for a larger sample size, we have to do SCIENCE!!!
#my beloved mutuals I would be eternally grateful if you would get this one further because I have a deep curiosity#we have to know it's important#could i look at a statistics website for tea consumption per capita in different countries>#sure but that would be less fun than a silly poll#we LOVE polls

epic contingency table I made with the monkees-beatles correlation survey we ran for the monkees zine . it is what my brother would refer to as a "nothing burger" because it means fuckall but it's fine because I like making spreadsheets and running statistical tests. if anyone is better than me at interpreting jamovi/spss output then feel free to dunk on me for my terrible statistics skills but otherwise feel free to just admire how pretty it looks
#my statistics teacher told me I was 'part of a minority' because I enjoy statistics . she doesn't realise it's because I can use it for evil#emi's meandering jotts
