Oh man, I saw your haircut comic in twitter a few days ago n I remembered just how much I loved short hair so I instantly booked an appointment. It's been 5-6 years so I missed it a lot! theres a phenomenon that happens on here i have been calling "normalize loving parents posting" which is when you spend a lot of time on tumblr and are exposed to a lot of one specific counter-cultural narrative day in and day out until you start to forget what the dominant ideas are for most of the human population and thus feel the need to "defend" things that are widely accepted and popular. it's called this because of the time a bunch of text posts about shitty dads were circulating and then people with good relationships with their dad didn't feel included enough and started making "uhmmm can we normalize loving parents? not everyone has a deadbeat dad, MY dad is great" type posts, seemingly forgetting that good relationship with dad is a cultural norm that is expected and encouraged. i think its good practice, especially when im annoyed, to stop before i hit the post button and ask myself if this is a real issue or if im normalize loving parents posting. because often im about to try to normalize loving parents

My family came back from Peru and ohhh, they bought me a llama pen. I used to have one YEARS ago, they sell them everywhere in touristic places. I saw it and I remembered when I used to imagine it running while I moved it around, so I wanted to draw Damian riding it 😭🙏

Oh, he looks lovely. I remember I tried replacing the ink once it didn't have more, but I ended up breaking it. I was heartbroken. But now I have it back!

Anyway, while drawing that I thought; oh, it would have been cute if he had been in his Robin outfit. Then I thought, well, if it had been his Robin outfit, I would have to Peruvianize it...? So here it is!!!

He's a dancer!!!! There's this super cool dance called the Scissor dance in Peru, and the dancers jump a lot; Perfect for Robin! I can imagine young Richard Grayson jumping around, CUTE CUTE CUTE! But since this is Damian, yeah.

I struggled with the colors a lot, but I'm satisfied! I was thinking maybe Talia and Ra's could be demons, inspired in that dance La diablada, which I dunno how to translate to English. In any case, in that dance there's an angel, it's a fight, and I was thinking maybe Bruce could be the angel? The problem is that the Angel obviously wears all white, and that can't be him, because Batman is...well, the dark night. Then I thought about the Ukuku, the bear man! And he's like a guardian, to put it somehow? And there are versions of the costumes where they have a dark mask, so I thought; that works! Since he's a guardian, he could also be the angel of the diablada...? Which I know historically it's incorrect, but In this AU, I think it could work!

Then I thought, maybe Damian should be the Ukuku, since the Ukuku is the son of a woman and a bear, but then I thought, nah, let it be Bruce, because then Damian can be part demon!!! And it gives him identity crisis, because he's part demon, part guardian. Just like in the comics!

(and yes, woman and bear, not woman and Bat. Maybe I can change that too???)

I was thinking maybe the scissors could open a portal to the world of the death. I love the idea! What if only a Robin can use them? Then Batman can go to Jason and ask him to use the scissors to bring Damian back to life and they can fight because they're not supposed to use them for that. They can fight and punch each other, just like the comics!!!!

Translating things to ones culture is always funny, I can't help but ramble!!!

are we far enough out of the 2010s that I can say that a lot of what was getting framed as intentional queerbaiting in the big Tumblr Popular shows was definitely just writers making homophobic jokes bc they thought the idea of a character being gay was funny rather than any attempted implication that a character might be gay
