The Coffin of Andy and Leyley has me thinking about gender and gender roles a lot. I know other people have done more in-depth analysis of this, but I'm just gonna throw my thoughts out into the void of tumblr (the void is welcome to yell back, just be nice please)

I think one of the things that makes these characters fascinating especially for me as a vaguely-agender nonbinary person is like the places I can see where their gender is impacting their interactions and choices. Like changing the gender of the characters would fundamentally change their story and personality (love y'all's genderswap AUs tho, this is not an objection).

Something I'm not sure how to articulate super well is how the game interacts with like neurodivergence gender stereotypes. On the surface level they line up with the "women are emotional and men aren't allowed to show feelings" set of gender stereotypes. But I think there's another layer if you look at it through the lens of how societal pressures around mental illness and gender intersect especially in like school-aged kids/teens. Like Andrew being the "easy child" and Ashley being... Ashley. In not-particularly-nuanced terms: "boy" neurodivergence shows as acting out and being a problem child (which Ashley does), and "girl" neurodivergence gets hidden via masking and passivity (which Andrew does). I think it's neat that this is contrary to societal expectations - like this would be a very different story if Andrew was a pushy chaotic mess and Ashley was apathetic but seething under the surface. Because gender! What's even up with that?

The way Ashley and the mom talk about sex is fascinating. I've read some really good analyses on here about Ashley thinking about sex as transactional and I think she gets that from her mom. In that one scene ("you fuck her") the mom asks Andrew something like "what does she give you to make it worth it?" Like, the only reason she can think of for why Andrew wants to spend time with Ashley is sex. That says a lot about the mom as a person (also wow she really does see zero value in Ashley as a person wtf), and probably the way Ashley was raised to think about sex. And that's a very gendered (like cishet women specifically) view of sex. Like sex in a relationship as something to be tolerated, and for Ashley "another way to keep him around".

But I'm also wondering about the flip side of that, like is the mom only tolerating the dad for sex? Because I don't really get the impression that she likes him very much, but they textually have a very active sex life. If so, this is also sort of counter to societal gender roles/expectations. I really don't like the parents but they're such fascinating characters too.

I guess my point with all this is like we got distracted by the cannibalism and murder and incest and demon summoning, but there's some really neat and subtle stuff about gender in here that I want to talk about too! It's just so well written there's so much depth

RE: your last ask... I'm a different anon, trans in the other direction heh. Finding which path bears the most fruit is... So difficult? I'm currently on the waitlist for top surgery and I haven't told my parents yet- it's going to cause so much anger and grief and I don't know if I will be able to maintain a relationship with them. They're very progressive for reformed protestant christians otherwise, moderately leftwing, but something about transness sets off my dad in a way I do not understand and he refuses to explain, he just storms off and says he "can't follow me on this path". So... Yeah. Idunno. Transitioning feels selfish, but I also NEED to do it, so I'll go through with it, I just always wonder if it's gonna be the final nail in the coffin for my faith.

I feel for you — it can be hard to discern which way leads to good fruit when you are in the liminal space between the tree planted and the tree fruiting. It can also be really really hard to determine what exactly the tree is: In your case, are potential negative responses to your transness / top surgery the fruit of transness itself? Or is the tree transphobia?

That is how I consider things: When trans people are free to live as themselves without transphobia and cissexism involved (hard to experience these days), the fruit is new life, new energy, new community, new thriving. It is only when those anti-trans reactions enter the mix that the results are instead rejection, violence, and grief.

That is why I firmly maintain that any bad fruits that come from living out our transness are coming from transphobia, not transness itself. I will share my personal experience, while aware that I am extremely lucky and privileged to have parents who were never afraid "for my soul," only a little incredulous about nonbinary genders at first and then concerned about how it would affect my quality of life.

When I told my parents I planned to get top surgery and would appreciate their support, by dad and mom both responded with different flavors of bewilderment about why it was necessary. My dad kept talking about how my body shouldn't matter (typical view of a white, cishet, able bodied man). My mom told me she couldn't offer any financial support to the surgery itself because she thought it was a mistake I'd regret, and a waste of money.

But over the year following my top surgery, they witnessed my transformation: my new energy, joy, willingness to get out of my comfort zone. And they moved into full support.

My mom also originally grieved over my name change, because my birthname was meaningful to her and she felt like I was distancing myself from her by changing it -- but within a year, she gave me the nickname "Aves," and fully supported my legal change when I finally got around to it.

Ultimately, my parents' support and affirmation through calling me the right name and pronouns, and even challenging their friends when they say anti-trans shit, has brought us closer than we ever were before while I was in the closet / completely unaware of what it was that made me feel so disconnected from society.

The affirmation of transness yields good fruit. It is transphobia that yields bad fruit. As the late, great Rachel Held Evans puts it:

"If same-sex relationships are really sinful, then why do they so often produce good fruit—loving families, open homes, self-sacrifice, commitment, faithfulness, joy? And if conservative Christians are really right in their response to same-sex relationships, then why does that response often produce bad fruit—secrets, shame, depression, loneliness, broken families, and fear?"

All this to say: I am so sorry that you have been made to feel torn between your gender and your faith, between transness and your parental relationships. You deserve to be loved exactly as you are, to experience yourself as the holy, beloved person you are. But if you feel you must choose — choose life. Choose surgery and whatever else you need to be you.

I pray that the other things will follow — that your loved ones will witness the good fruit of your choice, and finally be able to follow you into joy. But even if they fail to recognize what is clearly evident, I pray you will feel the presence of the LIVING God who wills abundant life for you.

zoro - overcompensates because of his inherent view of himself being outside of the masculine ideal (i hc him as trans for this but it works with queer zoro more generally) preforms gender to the maximum he possibly can despite being disconnected from the cishet ideal of masculinity. he has a lot of pride and knows what he wants but oftentimes doesn't know how to articulate that within the context of his preforming gender.

nami - preforms as a woman to the maximum she possibly can. doesnt fit within the view of cishet submissive femininity and is a lot more confident in her gender performance than zoro is which isnt to say she has no insecurities about it she just doesn't let them dictate her life. also has a ton of pride but does know how to work within her gender performance to get what she wants. (please assume i hc everybody as trans forever)

sanji - preforms both as a man and a woman and identifies with aspects of both in the words of my friend "sanji is both mom and dad". he is the in-between. he tries to get himself to preform 100% as a man and it does not work. if he tried to preform 100% as a woman, it wouldn't work. he relates to femininity despite wanting to seem incredibly masc and admiring and finding himself within aspects of masculinity. he also overcompensates similar to zoro but it comes from a more disingenuous place, he's jealous of both zoro and namis gender and relates to them both. his gender is actually just "caring person" whether that be masculine or feminine.

usopp - gender is a performance and he is giving A for fucking effort. wants to be a man so bad. is a man. but wants to be a man so bad. kind of like zoro but more outside of traditional masculinity going in rather than already being A Man and still viewing himself as disconnected from that. his gender is man max sincerity.

franky - the exact type of guy usopp wants to be, zoro doesnt think he deserves to be, and sanji half-is. gender is a performance and he is performing it like it's the last concert he'll ever do. max sincerity to everything he does, he is the manliest of men but with no insecurity around that with an inherent queerness to him. he defies everything zoro thinks about masculinity and will happily do so. preforms and takes confidence and comfort in his presentation more than nami does, exceeds everybody by a mile in terms of performance. he also doesnt think hes inherently better than anybody and doesn't fit within the cishet norm, yes, but also fundamentally is anti-patriarchal in his performance of gender. punk as hell

r/gaydrama My Mom and I think my Brothers BFF is gay for him, and we don't know what to do.

I, W(19FTM), have a brother G(17 almost 18M) and a close family friend/basically adopted brother M(18M). G and M have been friends for years, and the biggest joke between the two of them is that they are married for tax benefits. They are CLOSE and make jokes about how they are married a lot.

The problem is, both are straight, or at least claim to be. My brother, G, is definitively straight. He is incredibly comfortable with his sexuality, makes jokes about being the only straight sibling, does all of the "I DO KISS MY HOMIES GOODNIGHT!" jokes, and all in all a pretty solid cishet white dude. G even has a LOT of gay friends, with one of his closest friends being a really attractive gay man who G says "Even if I was gay, I wouldn't date him because he is too good for me.". (He is too good for all of us.)

G is so comfortable in his sexuality that he takes getting hit on by gay men as a compliment, and given how he looks like a young Matthew Lillard, it happens a lot. (I think the last count was at 42 different times. He keeps track to bully his gay friends that he can pull more tail than them). I am bringing this all up because M is not as comfortable. He is alright with compliments from gay men as long as they are a stereotype but he is ultimately a classic dude.

M played football, he did powerlifting, and he even works on cars. He is a full-on stereotype. These are all of his genuine interests too, but he does have a rather large habit of playing this up, especially in front of openly queer me. He does occasionally try to out man me, but in a way that screams, he is insecure about himself and not transphobic. I always thought that he was just insecure in his masculinity, but my mom and I have recently found that it may be a bit more.

An important factor I need to point out is that G has a girlfriend, who he has been dating for a few months now. Girlfriend (E 16 almost 17F) is super chill with M and even jokes about how M is G's side piece. A Me and You and your friend Steve type of situation.

The other day I spent the entire day with G and M and we were later joined by E and OH BOY. M was fully jealous of E the entire night. Everytime the two went off to vibe alone you could kind of sense it. Doesn't help the fact that M was trying to pick up girls (while calling them Females I might add) and they could even sense it.

To make matters worse, M asked us about why he can't ever keep a girl and while listing his standards IT WAS LITERALLY JUST A GIRL VERSION OF MY BROTHER! No joke and E and I in the back seat even shared a look. I talked to my mom about it later and she even said "YOU NOTICED IT TOO!"

I just (almost) read the entirety of Happs and I see why people would consider it transphobic.

It just reeks of a trans story written by a transphobe.

Now, keep in mind that I am not a trans person myself. However, I noticed certain things you'll often find in transphobic stories.

And expect me to ramble. A lot.

Also, keep in mind that this is my interpretation of this story. This is what I got out of it.

Trigger warning because I will be talking about transphobia and suicide will be mentioned.

One of the first things I noticed is that it focuses a lot more on how it affects the people around the character as opposed to the character itself.

I'm guessing this is to guilt people who are trans or at the very least questioning their gender into not exploring their identity because the people around them might not accept it.

But to me, nothing is more selfish than expecting someone to fit the idea of them you have in your head. If anything, keeping these people around more often than not causes harm because while there may be genuine concern, they also tend to care a lot more about their own feelings and how it affects them as apposed to how you feel and how it affects you.

Hell, this isn't even an experience unique to trans or queer people. Even cishet folks have gone through the experience of finding themselves only for the people around them to not accept it and try to make them feel bad for changing.

In this story, Billy gets made fun of (though he doesn't care), his father leaves him because he can't have a normal son, and it takes a toll on his mother physically, emotionally and mentally until she ends her own life when he comes of age. There's probably more examples I didn’t list.

Another thing these kinds of stories tend to use is having said character transition into something inhuman, very like insinuating that if we this is what will happen when we become more accepting of people who simply want to change their gender identity. And that's bad because... *checks notes* it's weird.

Look, while I wouldn't call myself a radqueer, I tend not to give a shit about a person's identity a lot of the time.

Anyways, a very blatant example of this in media is in South Park. In the same episode where Mr. Garrison transitions into a woman, we get Kyle transitioning into a tall black boy in order to play basketball, and eventually, his dad transitions into into a dolphin because he always wanted to be a dolphin.

Of course, this doesn't work out for any of them because they're not really what they transitioned into. But Mr. Garrison keeps identifying as a woman for a while because they used his balls to make Kyle's kneecaps, and they exploded after he makes a slamdunk (or at the very least jumps).

While B-7 isn't as blatant as that South Park episode, I couldn't help but notice it as I read further and further. Especially when they start insinuating that he is mentally ill and needs to be sent to a ward.

The final point I will bring up which probably does ties into the last one has to do with trans surgeries.

As someone who used to be an anti-sjw, I know firsthand how transphobes try to make trans surgeries out to be horrible when it's really no different from any other surgery when you really think about it. Well, maybe aside from regulations, but that's due to a society that's still not accepting of trans people as opposed to the problem with the surgeries themselves.

They will go on about how irreversible it is and how it may lead to complications. But like I said before, this isn't unique to trans surgeries.

For example, choosing to donate your kidney is irreversible, and there will be complications, especially with the kidney you have left having to work overtime.

Hell, even the person you gave your kidney to is gonna deal with stuff because your kidney will still function like your kidney even if their body accepts it.

But anyway, Billy eventually decides to have his limbs cut off and replaced with prosthetics to be more like an animatronic. While he is questioned about this decision, he does ultimately get what he wants.

If only it was that easy for trans people irl... But from what I gather from trans people who have gone under the knife, they have fight tooth and nail to medically transition. Not to mention, the lack of regulations makes them more likely to run into complications.

The last thing I wanna go over is how Billy feels more like he wants to be a robot than an animatronic?

This has nothing to do with anything else. I just wanna ramble

Sure, animatronics are still a type of robot. But they tend to be used for entertainment purposes like portraying characters in film, games, and attractions.

The animatronics in FNaF do fit this definition. Regardless of whatever funky shit they have going on, they are still built as characters made to entertain people.

So, if they really wanted to sell us that Billy wanted to be an animatronic, it would make more sense for him to want to find a way to entertain people.

I feel like the plot point with him forgetting how to feel also doesn't make sense?

Because especially with this being tied to Security Breach, we know that the animatronics are fully sentient beings. But even if they weren't, they're still programmed to act like them.

I think it'd make a lot more sense for Billy to slowly turn into his Freddy Fazbear OC and start acting more and more like a fictional character.

Which reeks of one of the writers clearly not being familiar enough with FNaF but I guess this could also be another piece of transphobia since an argument transphobes like to use is that trans people will never truly understand what its like to be the gender they want to be.

im gonna assume its abt Lyra. I've been cooking up more and more of her lore, so heres my cutie:

Name: Lyra (miyasaki, though im debating on a different last name)

Identity: cis female and bisexual. Uses she/her but is alright with they / them

Ethnicity: half russian and half chinese, though theres alot of other things mixed in there cause of her parents

Information abt her and Pran: the two start dating with around 16. Its not the best at the start because of Pran tendency to ignore people when he's upset. She HATES being ignored (triggers her sense of abandoment and can even send her into episodes), though Pran works on being more social when hes around 17-18 and continues to as he gets older so their relationship isn't all bad. Lyra's main way of showing affection is physical touch so her and Pran can accommodate eachother pretty well in that regard, even if Lyra has to remember he might not be too comfortable with PDA.

Other info abt her: joined SSB when she turned 16 (somehow got into a relationship with pran in the first 5-6 months of being there). She's in the unfriendable group, and gets along pretty well with JB later on. (If JB is dating jeremy then theres a chance they can become really close friends). Lyra is still pretty good acquaintaned with the popular clique.

Lyra is RICH. She was two fathers and multiple siblings. Her father is a sorta self-proclaimed doctor and scientist, but makes pretty okay money. Her dad/papa is a banker. She generally doesn't think much about her family except for her papa and youngest sibling. She stays in somewhat regular contact with the two.

She is diagnosed with BPD later in life. I do not have a picture of her but just know that she has blue hair, red eyes and very pale skin. I'll make a picrew for her perhaps.

Adult Lyra: Mostly helps Pran out at the tatoo parlor, but also works anywhere else she's needed. Doesn't rely on her parents TOO much anymore, but still happily takes money if she can. (A lot of parallels with Pran's mother im noticing right now??), the other small jobs she does is basically doing anything around a small cafè near her and Pran's house. 🌼 Caede Tales characters give me a tricky time to answer this, because the story is told over the course of their entire lives, but by the time the story really starts going (Aka, Archer is joining Maliwan), he's about 29 while Joey is 25 !

And for the last time he's seen, he's around 40 something.

Archer isn't someone who has a lot of hobbies, he's usually too busy with work to really have his attention dispersed, but when he is stationary for a certain amount of time and work slows down, he likes writing poems in post-it notes and then bringing them home to collage em together. He says it's just to make time pass faster, but he does genuinely enjoy writing and reading. Otherwise, he's usually just working.

❤️ One time, when Archer was a kid– no older than 13– he and Jonah were out and about for a little mission with their dad, but they couldn't go back home right away, so they had to sleep on a tent outside. Their dad fell asleep pretty fast, so for most of that time they were together, playing and talking and trying to tire themselves out. They eventually got to lying down, and seeing the stars so clearly above them, with only the other brother to keep them company now, was really kind of a foundational experience. They both promised that no matter what, at some point, they would make it to those stars, and they'd both shine just as brightly for other kids in Pandora to marvel at, so maybe a few of them gets inspired to change the world too.

Thankfully there's always something that needs doing in the house and in the town in general !

❤️ One of the most special memories in Maria's life is getting to escape her old clan, leaving with Lucio in this special, once in a lifetime romance with someone she was sure would bring her happiness, seeing the world she used to know expand its borders so much farther than she thought they could... it was a weird adaptation, but it felt like her life actually had purpose now, that she would get to help people elsewhere, and bring some good to the otherwise very violent wasteland she called home. It was a choice for certain, and one she never regretted.

S1e03: The episode that inspired the infamous makeover --like betty looked really good in my opinion maybe the hair was a bit much but she was so confident I loved that for her 🥹💜💜💜. Is it safe to theorize that the late nights they spent working ignited something between them. More so with daniel though as he felt he could share his dads trauma with betty like who does that with their assistance, which is why when he said "they smile a little brigheter when they enter the room" I thought he meant betty my delulu sorry--he was just talking about his dads favouritism I realise.

Maybe I don't get it why would marc wanting to make betty a screenshot on his phone not make me assume he finds her attractive like I don't understand how am I supposed to percieve it as mean. Especially with her beautiful smile

--not daniels finest episode, sees betty and is like she should call for a table at the back at the restuarant they were going to😑😑. Still pissed but when daniel looks at betty when they are presenting infront of his dad and his dad says he doesn't know what his doing it's like looking at betty give him confidence that if she believes in this then why shouldn't I stand up to my dad. Daniel sure does have his low moments and good moments I'll say that. Hated Whilemina for how she treated betty here (but her moment with her dad😓😓) and he did try to to defend betty and checked up on her in the female bathroom which could is the bare minimum but no boss does the things daniel has done on behalf of betty as his assitant or i could be wrong. Although again he has his moments because he didn't try to persaude betty to go to the dinner she planned and wouldn't have happened without her. S1e04: Boo walter👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 his so annoying like he some how didn't want betty to prosper in life. But on the plus side justin and marc friendship starts in this episode --and the start of the trio that is betty marc and amanda so cute they had each others backs. Daniel and betty having a secret together 🥹🥹. I love the parrlells of Whilemina and betty and feym her trying to honour her Memory even though she wasn't the greatest boss to her I think that's wholesome she suggested that.

He's INSANE sir she is ur Assitance ,like what are u talking about. Betty coming all lovey dovey with "heres ur dinner must be starving " like something about her doing her job has so much love ---the undertones. "You worker hard today" in a soft tone. And everything after that has me kicking and giggling. The vunerable moments between between them is just so wholesome so the musical box mystery is addressed and one thing a white cishet men will do is cause trauma. I love their eye contact "just be careful what you say" . I know this is the building of their friendship but their chemistry is just way to good for me to ever see them that way and this early too ,like if anything the friendship they were building was between betty and marc/Whilemina. The eye contact 😭😭 like not him repeating what he said early as if to reassure her to make sure she understands that she is important to him that she could do no wrong in his eyes , she'd burn down some magazine and he'd try and find a way to defend her. Ichika: Ace Bisexual. I feel like she wouldn't really think about questioning her sexuality until high school. Saki and Shiho are probably the ones who introduce her to the whole concept and Ichika goes oh wait. You mean people are fr when they talk about sexual attraction?! People actually do that? You mean not everyone thinks girls are also pretty??? Wow.

Saki: Pansexual. Learned about the LGBT community while having nothing to do in the hospital and scrolling the internet all day. Took a "I am Gay?" quiz online and got the Gay result and was so convinced the computer Scanned her brain and found the Gay Gene:tm: or something she just took it at face value. It happened to be right.

Honami: Bisexual but doesn't realize it until like last year of highschool. I feel like she is the type of girl who really wants to get married to some guy and have four kids, and while she does want that, it could get in the way of further self reflection of realizing straight people don't also think they wouldn't mind dating a girl also.

Shiho: Come on what character has 'listening to girl bands' as a hobby? Lesbian. She's been known since she was a kid but she's kept it to herself.

I don't have any gender hcs for L/N specifically but hcs that I see hc shiho as transmasc always kinda read to me as 'this girls wearing pants woahhh that = guy now!!' like please. its ok to just say tomboy. We need to bring the word tomboy back. But you can do whatever you want!

Toya: Demiboy Gay. Also has been out since 9 and as you can imagine his dad had the exact opposite reaction as Kohane's dad. I don't even think he would've come out I just think Toya asked for like a barbie doll and his dad went Oh My God I Am Raising A Homosexual. And kid Toya was like I don't even know what that is! He happened to be right. Eventually comes out properly to his dad in the present day and he probably has the same reaction to that as his music choices. Also Toya and Kohane highfive over being demigender.

Tsukasa: Identifies as cishet and just a really good ally for so long. Watched Saki fill out the am i gay quiz and by the time she could turn around to ask if he wanted to take it too he was already out the door on his way to buy the entire Target pride collection. Too preoccupied with being the most obnoxious ally you've ever seen to think about himself. Years later when WxS is having their reunion shows he goes oh by the way guys I think I'm genderfluid and pansexual and everyone just goes yeah we fucking know. He thought for so long that it was just really convincing 'method acting'.

Emu: Has no idea what the LGTV community is for so long but not in a heteronormativity way, in a 'she doesn't know that people have preferences at all' way. Thinks everyone is pansexual by default. Someone points out to her that hasn't she noticed that most people are either guys attracted to girls or vice versa? And she goes oh really? I never noticed that! Immediately comes out as pansexual.

Nene: Transfem Bisexual. The one whos constantly trying to nudge Tsukasa and Emu like 'hey. cishet people dont do that btw. jsyk.'

Rui: Transmasc pansexual. Him and Nene swapped genders as kids and that's why they're friends. Years later when Tsukasa finally comes out and then reveals he has the most generic stock photo image ass boyfriend Rui has to excuse himself to go punch a wall and say I KNEW IT!!!

Learns about gender and sexuality when Mizuki comes out because you know that she has absolutely no idea about it before. Also thought everyone was pan by default like Emu. Even if she did ID as anything she would forget about it a week later. None of her business! I think if any random teen on the street asked her out she would say yes and then ghost them because she is too awkward to say no.

Even if she wouldn't bother to identify as anything I like to see her as a demigirl demisexual lesbian which totally isn't mostly my own identity I'm not projecting hahaha.

Mafuyu: Also has no idea about the lgtv community and is very interested when Mizuki comes out to everyone. The empty sekai has an earthquake when she finds out. Is very curious how these people seem to know these things about themselves! Has more stuff on her plate to properly deep dive into herself until college. Experiments a lot in college. Every week she's trying new pronouns like she's trying to cast a magic spell and everything will magically click for her. Eventually goes 'man I dont know its complicated' and goes by they/them and queer. I like to see her as agender lesbian though.

Ena: Lesbian. Akito saw her taking a am i gay quiz once years ago and he will never let her live it down. Like to tease her about it but is cool when their dad asks what they're fighting about. I like to imagine her and Airi both came out as lesbian to each other at the same time like 'omg that's what i was gonna say!'

Thirsty Suitors is an incredibly charming, super fun and beautifully queer game that I wish more people would talk about Part 1

Just posting my thoughts about Thirsty Suitors that I've been writing, because I finished it last night and loved it and wish more people were celebrating it. This was written after my first night of playing it.

So I've been playing Thirsty Suitors and it has been an incredible experience so far, I have so many thoughts and I'll try my best to compile them. So I heard that this game has really good queer representation, but I didn't know quite how much there was and, even outside of the main plot with protagonist Jala confronting her exes of all genders and her being bi, there is a lot in the game in general from all across the rainbow which was just really nice to see and makes the world feel so much more… inviting? And interesting, it isn't just a world filled with cishet people like a lot of video game worlds.

Another thing is that this is the most charming and fun and explicitly queer game that I've played since Night in the Woods. SERIOUSLY!? This game is wild, and it takes these relatable situations like, for example confronting your exes or cooking with your incredibly judgy mother or your much more lenient father and gameafies them in the most over the top and visually interesting ways. Like it manages to convey a lot of these experiences with how it feels in your head but make them the actual thing that is happening, if that makes sense. It also has skateboarding, which is how you get from place to place but there's also sick tricks that you can do all around the place which is also fun.

So I'll just say too that, this game handles it's queer themes, and presents a lot of these queer specific experiences perfectly and this game has so many relatable moments and characters. Like for example, talking about the experience of coming out and, while Jala had an easier time coming out to her parents who are very accepting of her, which you find out is because her dad's sister is lesbian and he had failed to stick up for her when she came out and vowed to never make that mistake again, you also find out that one of Jala's ex girlfriends Diya had also come out and was disowned by her parents who won't even acknowledge her anymore which, was REALLY painfully relatable as someone who didn't have a good time coming out to my mother. Another thing that I thought was really cool was another of Jala's exes being a trans girl named Tyler, who seems to be one of the most important people from Jala's life and has a really interesting plot going on of her own, but they also mention that Jala's parents were also very supportive of Tyler's transition which I also just appreciated them mentioning that and thought it was very sweet. The game talks about a lot of queer experiences like this and it always feels very real when it does.

Another type of representation that this game seems to handle incredible well is cultural, especially South Asian with Jala's family being from India and moving to America and while a lot of that stuff obviously goes over my head, I've heard from other people that it's handled really well and I can tell just from playing the game that it's coming from experience. Getting to cook all sorts of traditional Indian food while chatting with either Jala's mum or dad is really cool.

So the main plot is essentially about Jala returning to her small home town after splitting up with another ex girlfriend named Jennifer, and now all of her exes are confronting her over how badly she messed up with each of them in the past, or because they are desperate to get back with her, or both. And now she must defeat them in turn based RPG style combat which ends with reconciling with each of them at the end which is very Undertale/Deltarune. And she also needs to reconcile with her parents for leaving very suddenly and not talking to them, and especially her sister who is getting married in a month. And on top of all that, there's also this interesting plot involving Tyler who is investigating some weird… mascot bear? At the skate park who seems to be forming some cult and trying to build something and getting a bunch of kids on his side, and as Tyler says specifically a lot of queer outcast kids who are easy to manipulate which, yeah that's one of the reasons that accepting queer kids is important. And Jala throughout the story is helping Tyler to deal with this Bear mascot cult while also dealing with the rest of her exes which, I'm imagining Tyler herself is probably going to be one of the final bosses which is going be painful but yeah.

So I am absolutely loving Thirsty Suitors so far, I've defeated 3 out of I think the 6 exes. And it's already becoming one of my new favorite games, also a perfect game to play for Pride Month as well, would very much recommend it.

Here are some headcanons on gender/sexualities of some BB Characters (mostly just the main ones, but I’ll do a few side characters too, just for fun):

The Main Man Himself, Bob: I like to think of him as Cis and he’s already canonically Bi. Someone headcanoned him as a Trans Man, and that’s valid too!! But for some reason, I’ve always seen him as Cis. I just get that vibe from him. Maybe it’s because he reminds me so much of my dad and he’s Cis.

Linda: She uses Maxi Pads (which Gene sleeps on ☠️) and was pregnant, so she’s definitely AFAB. She’s probably Cis. I probably also see her this way because she reminds me of my mom, who’s also Cis. For her sexuality, I’ve seen headcanons of a few which I think are totally valid. I can see her as just straight, maybe being the token Cishet of the Belchers. I can see her as Bi. Her and Bob being Bi for Bi is such a cute idea. I also saw someone headcanon her as Pan, which I adore. But the Bi headcanon might be my favorite.

Tina: For her gender, I can see her as either Cis or a Trans Girl. Kind of leaning more towards Cis? Not sure. It can go either way for me. As for her sexuality, I definitely see her as Polyamorous. I mean, Two For Tina basically confirmed this with her wanting both Josh and Jimmy Jr. I like to think of her as straight and polyamorous, as she’s only really talked about boys so far. But I can see her as Bi too, tentatively. But I see her more as straight and polyamorous.

Gene: I definitely see him as Genderfluid AMAB and Bi, because I’m Genderfluid AFAB and Bi and projecting. It just makes the most sense to me, as he did have a legitimate interest in Courtney, but I just can’t see him as straight. It doesn’t feel right to me. Him being Bi makes the most sense to me. It’s hard to explain, but it just does. He seems like the type to just love people, which is why the headcanon of him being Pan I feel is valid too. But again, I like to project and say he’s Bi.

Louise: I can definitely see Louise as Nonbinary AFAB. It just makes the most sense to me. She’s definitely not Cis to me, as much as Gene is definitely not Cis to me. Some people have headcanoned her as Trans Masc, and that’s valid too, but it’s not my personal headcanon. Actually, one headcanon I also came up with is her potentially being Genderfluid like Gene, but Genderfluid AFAB, leaning more towards the androgynous side. It was short-lived, but I thought it would be fun. Someone also once headcanoned her as a Demigirl, which is very fun and unique, but I do see her as Nonbinary AFAB the most. That headcanon makes the most sense to me. As for her sexuality, someone headcanoned her as Panromantic Asexual, and that was very fun. I can see that. I can also see her as Biromantic Asexual, or just Biseuxal. But I like the Panromantic Asexual headcanon the most.

Teddy: I don’t know why, but I really enjoy headcanoning Teddy as a Trans Man who is also Bisexual. I don’t know why, but it just makes sense to me. And he’s definitely a Trans Man who takes hormones, but hasn’t gotten surgery because it scares him (he just wears a binder all the time or thick shirts/sweaters to hide his chest). And he feels very Bi to me and someone who lowkey has a crush on both Bob and Linda, but won’t really act on it, as he respects them and their marriage too much. And he knows he has a nice thing going with Kathleen.

Rudy: I love Regular-Sized Rudy so much. Some people have begun headcanoning him as a Trans Girl, and I think that’s super cute!! @br1ghtestlight mentioned him keeping his hairstyle even if he’s a Trans Girl, and I agree. That would be adorable. So I like to think of this as a cute possibility, but I can also see him as just Cis. As for his sexuality, I’m honestly not sure?? Could see him as maybe a Lesbian if he’s a Trans Girl, but I’m not sure otherwise.

Jimmy Jr.: I could see him as either Bi or Gay. @br1ghtestlight has also headcanoned him as Aro/Ace, and I can see that too. Him being either Gay and heavily closeted or Aro/Ace and heavily closeted both make the most sense to me. I haven’t thought much about his gender identity. Probably just Cis?? I don’t know.

Zeke: Zeke is definitely Bi to me. It just makes sense. He’s straight-up told Tina he had a crush on her, but he also seems the type to want to explore relationships with men when he’s older, and ends up just liking people. @ratguy-nico headcanoned him as Trans too. That’s definitely valid, but I’m not sure if I headcanon him as a Trans Guy. Honestly, I don’t know what I headcanon him as gender-wise. Maybe Cis. Still not sure.

Mr. Ambrose: Yay for Mr. Ambrose being canonically gay, or at least into men!! What an LGBTQ+ icon. I can definitely see him as either Nonbinary or Agender AMAB. He just seems like the type to not really care about gender or what people call him (I like to think he uses any pronouns too—technically prefers He/Him, but really doesn’t care). There’s hardly any Agender representation at all, so I like to headcanon him as Agender the most. He seems very GNC and would wear a skirt to school one day without any hesitation and no one would question it.

Mr. Frond: Some people have headcanoned him as a Trans Woman. Gender Euphoria Gloria lives rent-free in my head. I love it. But someone headcanoned him as a Trans Man, and I can’t get that idea out of my head. I love that headcanon too. I can easily see either one. But regardless, this man is definitely not Cis. As for his sexuality, he seems like the type to keep claiming he’s straight, but is really Bi. I say this because of his short-lived relationship with Gayle, which he seemed legitimately invested in until he cheated, and I love shipping him with Mr. Ambrose so, so much. They’re the ultimate awkward middle-aged sweater vest power couple. It’s incredible.

Jimmy Pesto: He’s probably Cis, let’s be honest (he just has that Cis Alpha Male Toxic Masculinity vibe). And he seems the type to claim he’s straight all the time, always being like “Come on, I like women, I was married to one at one point!” but he’s probably Bi and just absolutely refuses to explore that part of himself at all. Maybe one day, if he lets his guard down, he might. But honestly, who knows.

Calvin Fischoeder: He gives me a Cis vibe. But look at this man. This man is definitely not straight. Come on. You cannot look me in the eyes and tell me this man is straight. He probably does like women, considering his strange relationship with Shelby. But he’s not straight. He has such a weird sort-of crush and strange homoerotic tension with Bob it’s honestly insane. I can see him as maybe Bi, but because of the time period he grew up in, he couldn’t explore that at all. I can also see him as Gay and very repressed, and his infatuation with Shelby is just Comphet. I can see either pretty easily.

Grover Fischoeder: I have no idea why, but for some reason, I desperately wanted to headcanon Grover as a Trans Man. Don’t ask me why, because I have no idea. I just thought that would be a fun, random headcanon. I honestly don’t know what to canon his sexuality as. I can’t really see him with anyone, so maybe Aro/Ace?? I still have no idea.

That might be all the people I’m going to headcanon. This was more than I was expecting to do!! But in conclusion, the only person here I can maybe see as Cishet is Linda. But even then, I can just as easily see her as Bi or Pan.

But these are just my opinions!! There are so many different, lovely ways you can interpret all of these characters.
