#because Alfred did not approve of his ... origins.

Expand on the Alfred's favorite post, pls? 🙏
(this post)
Honestly I think it's pretty straightforward? Like, if youre Alfreds favorite, everyone knows youre Alfreds favorite, because youre either forbidden from visiting your amnesiac father, or youre the sole inheritor of a billion dollar fortune.
Or your either given the robin mantle and gear despite Bruce (and somewhat Dicks) disapproval, or it's being taken away with no warning so someone else can have it.
And you're never the favorite for picking up strawberries at the farmers market, it's always something bigger or more arbitrary then that, so being Alfreds favorite can mean side eyes for weeks - because it could be nothing, but also? Could be something.
It's not worth it.
#asks#jason is not Alfreds favorite#because if he was you would know lmao#actually I think the switch from alfie to Alfred was part of a cold war during Jason's first year at the manner#because Alfred did not approve of his ... origins.#and while Bruce never considered Jason a replacement for Dick *Alfred* did#as someone who knows who their parents 'favorite' is#that only works if you know your parents aren't going to treat any of you different#and Alfred doesn't bother with that

The Lost Condom
Synopsis: You were in the middle of a spicy time with your boyfriend, when something odd happened: the condom disappeared. Inside. Of. You.
The solution? Go to the hospital.
The problem? Your family didn't know about your relationship.
Pairing: Jon Kent X Gn!AFAB!Reader; Platonic!Batfam
Tw: 18+; Only mention and slight description of genitals and sex, but nothing too explicit; All characters are aged up of course; English isn't my 1st language.
Word count: 1,8k.
Requested? Nah.
Extra notes: This isn't an original idea of mine, it's based on a real life story someone told me. Also the family finding out scene was inspired by this fanfic from @dccomicsimagines and this scene from Megamind. Also, eventually I will work on the asks waiting for me I swear 😭

So… You were in the middle of… Having fun… With your boyfriend… When suddenly, he said something that really confused you.
— Hmm… Babe… Where’s the condom? — Your head snapped back to look at him, since you were on all fours.
— Where's the ‘what’? — Your eyes were wide, unconsciously. Jon was blushing intensely, looking from your eyes to your entrance. He didn't know how to explain.
— I-I-I put it inside with the condom on, but now it's… Gone! — You narrowed your eyes. You watched him wrap and then enter you, you didn't feel him pull out at any moment, and even if he did, why would he tell you that he pulled out, took the condom off and then put it inside again secretly while you were still going at it?
You were both silent for a few seconds.
— Search for it! — You practically yelled at him, making him scramble to get off of you. You laid with your back down and legs open, looking at the ceiling, trying to calm down and not feel embarrassed. You felt him entering you with his fingers and searching around for minutes, grumbling and getting frustrated. The sensation was good… But you had bigger priorities at hand!
You huffed and changed positions a few times. A pillow underneath your butt, legs up, on all fours. Nothing worked. You even searched around the room and the bed, just to be sure. At some point, you both defeatedly decided it was best you go to the hospital.
The thing is, your relationship was still new, and no one in your family was aware. Lois and Clark already knew and approved, and you thought Cass suspected you were seeing someone, but you hadn't told them yet.
Especially Damian.
You and Jon knew each other years before Damian was even part of the family, since Bruce raised you since your birth — you were the product of one of his affairs, your biological mother didn't want to raise you, but she also didn't want to abort, so she and Bruce agreed that he would have you as soon as you were born — and he's best friend was Clark. Although, you didn't see each other much back then. It was after the Supersons became a team and besties that he started frequenting the manor more. You always had a childhood crush on each other — Jon thought you were beautiful and nice, and you thought he was cute and sweet, very different from the gross and rude boys from your school. —. Until you were each other's first kiss, then years later, first relationship, and first time. Of course, all in secret from Damian. The older family members only knew about your crush because of your physical language, but since you grew older and learned to hide, they assumed it was just a childish crush from the past.
Lois and Clark knew and approved, but they also always reminded you that you needed to tell Bruce soon, or at least Alfred, especially after you started being sexually active.
Unfortunately, the day came. Yes, you and Jon were old enough to have sex, but too young to be mature and brave enough to go to the hospital by yourselves. Lois was in another country for work, Clark was in the Watchtower in a League meeting, your dad was there too. Leaving the 2nd best option: Alfred — the best would be Lois, then Alfred, Clark, Cass, and then you would have to discuss which one of your other family members would it be.
Since you were in Metropolis — again, no one knew. More privacy wink wink —, Jon flew you back to Gotham, and you both almost cheered when you realized you were completely home alone, except for Alfred, of course.
Poor Alfred knew something was up when you suddenly were back from your “shopping trip”, with messy hair and clothes, red face and Superboy looking almost sick. He released a long sigh.
— Mx/Miss/Master (Y/N). Young Mr. Kent… — You cleared your throat.
— Alfred… We need help…
After you explained everything, Alfred looked ten years older. He didn't comment on anything, but his face showed how unimpressed he was. He just gestured for you to follow him to the garage, took the keys and started driving.
— Let me warn Master Bruce while we are-
— NO! — You yelled, started. He looked at you through the rearview mirror disapprovingly.
— Should I remind you that he will see the hospital bill and go after the truth? — You bit your lip.
— No, I know that. Just… Can't we pay on cash? — You smiled at him hopefully and nervously, but it was more like a grimace. Alfred was silent. You groaned. — I will tell him okay! Tonight! — Jon’s eyes snapped to yours, wide. — Relax! You're not gonna die!
— Yeah, until Damian whips out a kryptonite sword… — He groaned, hiding his burning face in your neck. You huffed, now wasn't time for him to be adorable.
— He doesn't have a kryptonite sword. Dad didn't let him do it. He would have to build it first. That would give him enough time to calm down. — Jon looked at you, indignant. Alfred cleared his throat.
— While we're there, I can't make any promises that if your father asks, I will hide the truth. He will know. — You and your boyfriend groaned, rubbing your faces with your hands.
— Yes, Alfred, I know…
Two hours later, you were finally laid down in position for the doctor to begin the procedure. Since if wasn't anything serious, you were on the emergency and there was only a curtain separating you from the rest of the patients outside. Alfred was sitting just outside, waiting, while Jon was standing by your side, holding your hand, as if you were about to give birth. The doctor was amused by your story, and her jokes helped you calm down.
She searched around you for a few minutes, the instrument she was using inside you being a little uncomfortable. Jon was silently horrified when he saw, you were startled too, but maintained the composure.
— AHA! Found it! It was really deep inside, almost on your cervix! — When she pulled out the condom, you both let out a breath of relief you didn't know you were holding.
You quickly put your clothes on again, you and Jon chatting as everything seemed lighter, and then left.
What you didn't know was that when Bruce got home and you and Alfred weren't there, it made him call, finding out just that you were in the hospital. Alfred refused to say much more than reassure him that it wasn't urgent and that he would soon know, thus he didn't have to crazily drive all the way there. That didn't stop him from alerting all your siblings.
When you got home, your whole family was there.
— Jon?! What're you doing here? — Alfred kept a straight face. Wow, he really wasn't going to help.
— Hmmm... — Jon subtly and subconsciously hid behind you. You shifted from one foot to another. Damian got up with a threatening scowl. You just came from the hospital. With a kryptonian.
— Kent! If you hurt my sibling I will-
— I didn't! — Jon almost yelled, then covered his face with his hands.
— Then, what is happenning here? — Bruce got up with a raised brow, analyzing the situation.
You thought for a moment. You either told them now and made things easier, or you spent all the way to dinner with them bothering you to tell. You could take it, Jon couldn't.
You took a deep breath.
— JonandIwerehavingsexwhenthecondomdisappearedinsideofmewecouldn'tfinditanywheresoweaskedAlfredforhelpandwenttothehospital.
They blinked.
— … What?
You huffed.
— Jon and I were having sex, when the condom disappeared inside of me. We couldn't find it anywhere, so we asked Alfred for help and went to the hospital. — You said, slower this time, although uma lower, more abashed tone.
Silence.
— … But… It was stuck inside? Weren't you wet, though…? — Tim's analysis broke the silence.
— SEX?! — Dick and Jason exclaimed.
— YOU WERE HAVING SEX WITH MY SIBLING?!
— Knew it. — Cass smiled and nodded, proud of herself.
Bruce heaved a sigh and sat down again.
— I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THIS! — Damian threw Tim's coffee mug in your direction and Jon zoomed in front of you. The mug broke. Jon had a sheepish expression.
— Tim, go grab kryptonite. — Jason ordered and got up, walking toward the hidden compartment in the shelf where he kept his guns. Dick held him back while Damian threw a flower vase at Jon.
— No! Don't do that, Tim. — Dick ordered back. Tim shook his head.
— I wasn't going to anyway… — He mumbled. Damian threw the center table.
— YOU ACTED BEHIND MY BACK! YOU TRAITOR! YOU- OUCH! PENNYWORTH STOP! — Alfred tutted, pinching his ear.
— I'm sure civilized conversations don't involve breaking the forniture. — Alfred shot a pointed look at Bruce. — Master Bruce! Say something! — Your dad just kept gazing at you and your boyfriend.
Cass sighed, stepping toward Bruce and sitting beside him.
— (Y/N)’s happy. He’s good. They're careful. — Bruce nodded, finally showing some reaction and looking pleased. Jason stopped struggling against Dick and looked at you.
— I don't care. I'm going to kill him. — Damian growled, starting to pace around the room in anger. Jon silently sighed in relief that Damian kept his distance by being on the other side of the room, the couch and the whole family serving as a barrier. You stepped forward.
— It's not casual. We've been together for almost two months now. — Everyone but Alfred and Cass gasped. Damian burned holes in Jon’s head with his eyes and your dad looked at you, masking his mix of emotions.
Cass tsk.
— So clueless. Many signs. — She shook her head.
— (Y/N), why didn't you tell us before? — Dick asked carefully, walking in your direction and stopping in front of you. Jon fiddled behind you. You shrugged.
— Didn't want to deal with you all while we were just starting things. Especially if it didn't work out.
— When were you planning to tell us? — You pouted.
— I don't know… In a month or two? You guys probably would find out by yourselves. — You shrugged.
— You've been sneaking out a lot… — Tim spoke up for the second time, catching everyone’s attention. He was fiddling with his laptop, likely doing his own investigation. The ones closest to Tim looked from the monitor to you again.
— When did you go to Metropolis?! — Jason exclaimed, indignantly.
— Hehe…
Damian growled.
— So that's why you've been ditching me?! — Damian pointed a finger at Jon, who scratched the back of his head.
— Surprise...? — Jon weakly sang the word.
Bruce cleared his throat.
— So that's why Clark’s been acting like he was happy he knew something I didn't… — He got up and pointed at you. — No more sneaking out. Ask permission before going anywhere. — You opened your mouth to protest, but he stopped you. — Either that or you're grounded. — You pursed your lips and nodded in defeat. — Now we will talk about birth control…

So I read Batman #416 last night...
They haven’t talked in a year and a half according to this issue. Bruce literally did not attempt to talk to Dick once after “firing” him in this version of the continuity? Phones go two way, Bruce, especially if you’re supposed to be the parent/adult in this situation.
And Dick looks so sad. Like for all people like to talk about JT being “replaced”, I don’t know that I would have it in me to get over it if my father figure knew I was alive and well after he basically cut me off, didn’t bother to speak to me for 18 months or attempt any kind of communication, and I had to go find him when all of a sudden he gave the job I was fired from, that had defined our relationship, to a teenager, who was even more at risk than I had been.
“It was Alfred who forced money on me so I’d have something to live on. You couldn’t even be bothered to say goodbye.”
“ I was involved with a case. I didn’t…”
This is so much sadder than the original New Teen Titans/pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths version??? Like this is so fucking sad.
Then instead of leaving school on his own, Dick fails out because he’s too distracted and is asked not to come back? Like eventually he has the Titans, but taking away this being his choice and making it something he experienced because Bruce felt guilty he was shot makes it so much worse.
And then this set of panels…
“ It didn’t matter to you that I didn’t have any life other than the one we shared .”
Ymmv on whether Dick leading on his own terms or because he was fired as a change for the better or the worse, but holy God, does it change the dynamics of this relationship.
The way Dick reaches out for him… and Bruce shuts him out and tells him to leave. Just like he will after Jason actually dies, except this time, he only punched the glass and not Dick. Dick is trying to be the first one to reconcile, but Bruce won’t let him. Calling him Nightwing instead of by his name as a form of distancing him and everything.
And yet, for all the five trillion posts and fics I’ve seen about how Dick supposedly treated Jason badly due to jealousy and felt bad after he died, his next move? Is to go help Jason, give him his approval, and then offered to talk to him when Bruce wouldn’t and things were difficult.
TBH, I'm pretty sure that Dick Grayson is a way better fucking person than me. Because I like to think I wouldn't have taken it out on Jason directly, but I also would not have gone to find him, reassure him/give him my approval, and offer him a support network in the immediate aftermath of that conversation either. I would not have had it in me after ... *points to all of Bruce's bullshit*

BECAUSE I APPARENTLY WRITE ANGST TOO HEARTBREAKING, HERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE VERSION FOR BRUCE TO GET HIS HAPPY ENDING
Original Version
Time came around for you to arrive at the manor and everyone was practically bouncing in their seats in excitement
The moment the doorbell sounded through the halls, all the kids stood up
Bruce told them all to wait there as him and Alfred went to go open the door to let you in
There you stood in your best outfit as Bruce welcomed you inside with a smile while introducing you to Alfred
Alfred gave a polite nod while saying that the whole family has been so excited to offically meet you
Alfred goes to make sure the table is set for everyone as Bruce begins to guide you towards the living room
The moment you came into view there was a chorus of 'hello's that came the group before they each began to introduce themselves
Barbara, Stephanie, Dick, and even Cass went up to give you a hug while the others politely waved
Damian subtlety walked over to Bruce as the cheerleader squad already began to ask for the story of your life
Damian leaned towards his father as he whispered, "This one seems like a very suitable compared to the others you've accompanied yourself with."
Bruce chuckled softly while patting his son on the shoulder, glad to have his verbal approval
Alfred called for everyone to come to the dining room so they could talk more over dinner
Everyone happily showed you which spot beside Bruce you could sit in as the others took their own spots around the table
The chatter is casual as everyone eats, saying that they had put all their effort into making a meal you would like
You tell them that it is a very nice meal and you appreciated the effort they had put into it for the night
Everything goes quiet for a moment as the children take in the praise that was given to them
Jason suddenly pipes up as he looks over at you with a knowing smirk on his face. "Did you know that Bruce still has the first drawing you did on his coffee cup in one of his desk drawers?"
Bruce drops his fork in embarrassment as he sends Jason a intense look as a way to tell him to be quiet
Barbara excitedly added that it was the only way they knew how to find you to begin with anyways
Cass commented on Bruce having just been randomly 'peppy' in the mornings so they wanted to find out and they weren't actively trying to snoop in his business, which Dick quickly said they that's exactly what they all had done
Bruce quickly tells them to stop talking about it with a flustered look on his face before everyone went back to eating
It lasted for all of 10 seconds before Tim quietly added, "He has one in the car's glove compartment as well."
Everyone looses their shit over that revelation while you cover the smile on your face while looking over at Bruce. Softly assuring him that you thought it was kinda sweet
Bruce kept his gaze down as he told them all he was going to change his locks on both his desk and drawers in the morning
Alfred came walking in with a tray of cupcakes with decorative frosting and placing it in the center
All the girls excitedly tell you they had made the frosting from scratch themselves and paid extra care to make the flowers on them
You smile while taking one of the cupcakes as you admire the design before taking a bite
A hum of approval comes from you as you look at them with an eager nod
The kids get their own cupcakes from the try before talking to one another for a moment
Bruce turned towards you with a grin on his face as you stared back at him while the attention wasn't focused just on you
Bruce reached his hand out to take hold of yours on the table while rubbing his thumb over your knuckle as you just stare at one another
Stephanie quickly takes a picture on her phone before going back to her conversation with Jason and Tim
When everyone was done with their cupcakes, the kids helped clear the table as Bruce takes you to the living room to sit down on the couch together for a moment alone
Bruce expresses his apologies for how the kids had acted for a few times throughout the dinner
You quickly assured him it was fine and were expecting something to that extent anyways
The both of you lean back on the cushion as Bruce pulls you into his side, placing a soft kiss to the top of your head
"I'm glad you could come. All of the kids already seem to adore you. Though, it wasn't too hard for a few of them."
You give a small chuckle while turning your head to give him a soft peck on his cheek
You tell him that you found them all sweet, in their own way, and you were glad to have finally met them all
It goes quiet for a moment before you ask, "Did you really keep the coffee sleeves that I drew on?"
A soft groan comes from Bruce as he leaned his head back on the couch
You gave a small laugh while softly teasing him on how many more he had. Asking if he wanted you to draw some more so he could make his own collection
Bruce grabbed the back of your neck to give you a kiss to make you stop talking about it
You gently kiss back while bringing your hand to his cheek to return the kiss
"Children coming into the room! Please make sure all clothes are on! We don't need any images of undres to be burned in our minds!"
You pull away laughing as Jason yells that from the other room before everyone came walking in
A few of them laughing along as they see Bruce's flustered expression as he rubs his temple
The girls go to your side of the couch and begin asking if next time you would want to do a movie night with them all
The boys go to the other side while just stare at Bruce with knowing expressions
You assure them that you would love to spend more time with them the next time that you come over but you sadly did have to leave since you had work tomorrow
Sounds of disappointing come from all around as you stand up
Bruce gets up as well while saying that he will walk you out
"Alone," he adds before any of the others can fully get up from their spots to come along
When you both get to the door, Bruce tells you how he was glad you were able to make it and he would need to have you over again soon
Mostly cause the kids would bug him until you came back
You smile while agreeing because it was such a fun night
The two of you share a small kiss goodnight before you finally walked out the door, promising to tell him when you got home
Bruce smiles as he makes sure you get in the car before finally closing the door
He walks back into the living room to see everyone patiently waiting for him
They all have smiles as they look back at Bruce as if waiting for some kind of special news
This time, it's Dick that speaks up with a smirk on his face
"So... are you gonna get married to them, or do we have to ask for you again?"

Bruce Wayne, who can't cook to save his life but can bake better than even Alfred. The catch? He can only do it in the night after being awoken by nightmares. No one knows about his extraordinary skills other than Alfred and Dick, because everyone assumes that the baked goods in the kitchen are made by Alfred. Dick knows because when he was younger and couldn't sleep because of nightmares, he used to join Bruce in the kitchen and watch him work.
Dick Grayson, who is an absolute disaster in the kitchen because he keeps getting distracted, but give him a microwave and a dream and he'll prepare a solid three course meal that actually tastes decent. He's also an excellent cocktail maker, which is funny since he prefers to have his alcohol straight without any mixers (he still puts the little umbrellas in his glass though, don't be mistaken)
Jason Todd, who is an ACE in the kitchen because he refused to ever be helpless with food again after getting off the streets. He was going to eat, and he was going to eat WELL. Especially since he finally had the resources to be able to actually experiment with what he likes and what he can do with different foods, instead of just what's cheapest or most easily found. The one thing he can't do? Crack an egg with only his hands without getting any of the eggshell pieces in the food. He needs to use one of those little egg cracking tools. The thing that pissed him off the most about this is that the one thing Dick can do brilliantly in the kitchen, is crack eggs with one (1!!!) hand only.
Tim Drake, who is definitely not michelin star level (the Drakes had a cook for Tim's entire childhood so he never had to learn), but has learnt to sustain himself with instant meals and those little ramen packets. He somehow always makes them taste good though, adding toppings and making sure they are some form of nourishing, even if that just means adding a fried egg on top and calling it a day. He also knows the difference between all the different little types of tea that alfred likes to drink just by taste, and is the only other person in the house that can make a perfect cup (that is Alfred approved). It always shocks everyone else, because Tim is notorious for hating the taste of tea.
Cass Cain, who has no culinary abilities and does not want them either. Her skills in the kitchen start and end with making sandwiches. But whenever she goes out to eat, she always goes to a chinese restaurant and gets something that she hasn't tried before, because she was never introduced to any foods of her culture and wants to taste them all now. Oh, and she can do super complicated tricks with the knives, her and Dick have constant competitions about who can do the coolest thing.
Steph Brown, who lives off of takeaway for most meals, but can make better breakfast foods than most people in the house. Waffles, pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast, you name it and she can make it. Only if it is traditionally eaten before noon though. She also worked as a barista part time for a while, so she knows all the fancy coffee recipes.
Damian Al Ghul Wayne, who doesn't care to cook other cuisines, but taught himself how to make almost every middle eastern and south asian dish he could get his hands on, because it helped him feel closer to his home and his mother when he first moved in with his father. His fondest memories of his mother are of her feeding him his cultural foods and telling him about their origins. It was the only time they did not speak of work, or his training, but instead about what his father was like as a person, about the things his mother has seen on her travels over the years, about his maternal grandmother, about his interest in animals.
Duke Thomas, who can cook enough for a 15 year old but doesn't touch the kitchen of Wayne manor very often, not unless he's just sitting on the counter watching others or helping minorly. His memories are still fresh enough to bleed when touched and all his memories of him cooking in the kitchen have his parents happily dancing in the background on Sundays with loud music blaring through the walls as they teach him how to chop onions without crying or knead dough.
Alfred Pennyworth, who only had the most basic culinary skills when he began working for the Waynes, just enough to keep him alive when he was in the military, but was forced to learn how to cook when he was unexpectedly given custody of an 8 year old. He can cook better than most professional chefs in the world now, but he still hoards Thomas Wayne's old cookbooks like they're the only tangible part left of the man who once filled the halls of the manor, even though he knows that's not true. He'll pass them down to his grandchildren one day...just not today. Today, they're still his.
#bruce wayne#dc#dc comics#dick grayson#tim drake#jason todd#batfam#4sh-n4#batfamily#alfred pennyworth#stephanie brown#duke thomas#damian wayne#cassandra cain#i think that the relationship people have with food is so beautiful#because food holds memories and culture and ancestory and community and distraction and joy and new experiences and so much more#and then for some food holds so much pain and hurt and insecurity#its different for each person and its so interesting to me that such a universal thing can be so deeply personal#but this post isnt about relationship with food its abkut relationship with making food with cooking#and really for a few of them it isnt even about that because its just about their skills not their memories#i might need to follow this up with a more in depth relationship about cooking and why they have the skills they do#and maybe one about only how they feel about food in general#but let me know if thats something anyone would want to read!!#can you tell that i love dick by the fact that i ended up mentioning him like thrice 😭

You want to know the worst thing about Ralph Breaks the Internet?
It wasn’t the already-dated Internet jokes & references - we all knew going in that stuff was never going to work.
It wasn’t the new characters - honestly, they’re all fine (except maybe Double Dan - Alfred Molina deserves better!).
It wasn’t the exclusion of Felix & Calhoun (my delusional ass is still waiting for a short film about the two raising the Sugar Rush racers.)
It wasn’t even the thousands of details they ignored, retconned, or forgot from the original Wreck-it Ralph (Fix-it Felix Jr. was THIRTY years old when Ralph met Vanellope, Vanellope ABDICATED HER THRONE in favor of a constitutional democracy so everyone in Sugar Rush would have a say in how the game was run, Sugar Rush was a two-seater racing game, etc.)
No, the absolute, positively, undeniably worst thing Ralph Breaks the Internet did was tarnish & distort Ralph so thoroughly it made us all question if the original movie was even that good to begin with.
Everything else in Ralph Breaks the Internet could be forgiven or overlooked. But what they did to Ralph is just baffling. He was never going to be mistaken for a Rhodes scholar in the first movie, but he WAS smarter than the doofus who couldn’t even name a graduation cap in the sequel.
Wasn’t he?
And he wasn’t a gross slob by choice - he HATED living in the dump (I believe his exact words were “NOT cool! Unhygienic, and lonely! And boring.”) but he was kind of stuck there because the game literally left him nowhere else to stay. That’s why in the epilogue he decided to finally make something of his situation by building himself a proper shack instead of just camping on the bricks.
Wasn’t it?
And Ralph had many flaws in the first film - he had a short temper, he was a little clumsy, he broke things by accident just because he was a little too strong or things weren’t made for someone with his physical abilities in mind, he was stubborn, he had a one-track mind and couldn’t be deterred from his short-term goals no matter the long-term consequences. But the one thing he WASN’T was insecure. He knew his own strengths & weaknesses, and he wasn’t trying to change himself to win anyone’s approval. He was just trying to find VALIDATION, a way to satisfy the small-minded Nicelanders and prove to them (and himself) that he had value as he was.
Wasn’t he?
I’m terrified to rewatch the original movie now because I’m afraid the Wreck-it Ralph in my head is based on lies & fanfics, and the real Wreck-it Ralph was ALWAYS some insecure doofus with no accountability or self reflection.
And you know the absolutely insane part? Disney is doing their absolute darndest to pretend Ralph doesn’t exist. AND HE’S THE TITLE CHARACTER OF HIS OWN IP!!!!! There’s a new chapter book series about Vanellope & some of the Sugar Rush Racers getting stuck in a little girl’s tablet, and Ralph’s ONLY appearance so far is a line-drop in the first book when Vanellope says she left him sleeping in Game Central Station while all the consoles were unplugged for a remodeling of Litwak’s Arcade. WHAT THE FUCK?!?! Remember how EVERYONE in the first movie lost their shit at the possibility of their game being unplugged, treating it like an Apocalypse? Remember how even the sequel did a halfway decent job reminding folks that having a game unplugged was a Big Deal? Now everyone’s just chill axing on vacation in Game Central Station (which is NOT BIG ENOUGH to hold every single game character - it could barely fit the Sugar Rush citizens when they got unplugged) and Ralph is snoozing in a corner while his daughter is accidentally whisked away to some girl’s tablet.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!
The Wreck-it Ralph from the first movie wouldn’t be asleep in a corner when he could be spending time with Vanellope. And THAT man would go through Hell & high water to find her! While Vanellope & her gang are helping Molly (the kid with the tablet) learn about friendship & camping or whatever, Ralph should be an absolute MENACE online, tearing through every website, personal device, and Cloud account looking for his little girl!
Right? Wrong?
Did we all delude ourselves into thinking Ralph was deeper than he was intended to be? Or does Disney just hate Wreck-it Ralph now? And if it’s the latter, why? WHY do they hate him? Why do they want US to not care about him? Is it because he’s the last of the Lasseter projects? Did John C. Reilly and Bob Iger have some sort of falling-out? Did the FANBASE do something to put Disney staff off from ever wanting to do anything with Wreck-it Ralph ever again?
I think I could move on if I knew for certain whether Disney actively sabotaged Wreck-it Ralph with his sequel & subsequent exclusions from merchandise & multi-IP projects, or if I was just crazy for ever liking this character or his movie to begin with. It’s the not knowing that kills me.
#disney#wreck it Ralph#wir#Ralph breaks the Internet#RBTI#it’s over isn’t it#why can’t I move on#rant#rambling#someone please tell me if I’m crazy#or spill ALL the tea about that sequel

A Lonely Place Of Dying (my thoughts):
248-250/ Somehow I doubt you always wait patiently Alfred, you try to though. I do like what you say to Tim though. Think you’re trying to be a good grandfather right here and you aren’t even his grandfather yet.
Oh, so I actually thought Alfred gave it to Tim, the Robin suit. he just left it out and let him come to the conclusion himself. He did kind of try to stop him by mentioning Jason. It didn’t work though.
252/ protesting Alfred? I guess it’s so you can claim Innocence to Bruce later on.
254-269/ Tim is doing OK against Harvey until he picks up the one thing, my brain is not working on what it is. Scares him so much that he comes to Tim’s rescue. I’m glad he did, but Harvey’s mad. Tim finds them, as I knew he would. They don’t look happy he’s wearing the suit, but hey, at least he saves their lives. Albert is coming to his defense, which is good.
I do like the smiles, Dick and Alfred exchange as Bruce and Tim argue/talk before they go to get Harvey and take him back to jail. (All three in the Batmobile? Batman and Nightwing approve.) Or wait is it Arkham Arby’s going to? I don’t know, I think it’s jail.
Love how they end up in the Manor and Bruce still kind of argues with Tim. it’s just gonna be the dynamic. In a way it reminds me of Dick and Bruce, but Tim seems to listen to him a lot better (in someways.) This, I think is where they except him for good.*
Tim, you already earned their trust, you just don’t know it yet. (Neither do they in some ways I think.) Though I do hate what Bruce and Alfred do to you in the future. Especially Bruce but I can understand why also at the same time. He doesn’t want another dead Robin.
Oh boy, ending with the Jokers laugh. Not good.
*So I wasn’t wrong about Tim and how he became Robin.
https://www.tumblr.com/batfsm/750332023903764481/ugh-my-whole-thing-i-was-writing-got-lost-you
I still don’t consider Duke a Robin until he dons the colors but that’s me. I also don’t consider Alfred giving anyone Robin making them Robin because, in Damian’s case, Dick realized he needed to be Robin to not kill or something like that and in Tim’s case, I’m still in the middle of his origin so I might be wrong, he was given the suit, one of Jason’s old ones, but it wasn’t until Dick and Bruce acknowledged how helpful he was, that he technically became Robin.

How I Came to Appreciate Batgirl: Redemption Road More...
Once upon a time, I wasn't really fond of this story. I hated and loathed it. Since 2020 however, I gained a greater appreciation for the mini-series. Now it isn't on the top tier of Cassandra Cain stories, but I don't see it lower tier list anymore.
Why?
Well, I'm going to tell you, and maybe you'll appreciate this story too.
I fully confess this story more as a "Schrödinger's Cassandra Cain" story. There is a lot of bad in it, and yet there is a lot of good in it. First off, the one element I do enjoy is the art by Jim Calafiore.
There's a grit Calafiore brings to this story. It helps balance the good and the bad. The good is that he draws a very scary Cass. That and I do enjoy the opening homage to a certain two-clawed Wolverine in the opening spread:
Now for the very title of the series, you can interpret "redemption road" as two-fold: in writer Adam Beechen redeeming not only Cassandra in the eyes of the Bat-Family but redeeming himself with readers for well turning her heel back in Robin #150 and "Titans East" (Teen Titans #42-47). Cause let's face it-- it was not a good story by any means and did neither Cass or Beechen any further favors (but I digress, Geoff Johns, plotted that all out and there are "reasons" for Slade getting away free).
You have those factors and this little tale. So at Wizardworld Chicago 2008 I attended a panel where the infamous Dan DiDio revealed that Beechen bugged him for pitches and the one of approved was this mini.
He also revealed Beechen was the only one pitching stories on Cass (which was a half-lie, if you've seen my "Lost Tales of Cass" post, you know Chuck Dixon had a fill-in issue of Detective Comics ready to go telling how Cass/Bruce mended).
Course, by this time period Dixon was exiting Robin and Batman & the Outsiders so, yeah it was a "half-truth".
That made me angry back then, but now I see the why, and I'm okay with it. In his original ways of writing Cass, Beechen's attempts were-- not good. This was his chance to show readers he had really looked into the character's history and fix these issues that he himself put in.
Think about it we came from this in Robin #152:
To this. Beechen calling out the grand problem within the Bat-books (even now it seems). Cass is important in the Bat-Family, SO TREAT HER AS SUCH. Which he does by having Alfred (of course) pointing these things out.
But Alfred isn't the only one being meta in this story. I didn't even realize it, until 2020, but there is one other character playing a meta part in this comic, Nightwing.
If there's one HUGE gripe with this particular volume it is the relationship of Cass/Dick in it. We went to them being brother/sister.. to well. We have Dick literally acting like a dick to her.
Then it hit me.
Who was writing Nightwing at the time period? Peter Tomasi. Who treated the character of Cassandra like what Alfred says? Then suddenly Dick's characterization here began making sense much more sense (when you have this going right after this series as if that writer was flipping off Beechen) in Tomasi's final page of Nightwing:
Cass was supposedly living in the Manor at this time (per this story). Funny how she was "forgotten" in Nightwing. I guess Tomasi was REALLY spiteful because he revisited this subplot during the New 52 Batman & Robin too with Bruce even twisting the knife further:
Though for Beechen's purposes he revisits on WHY Cassandra should be a key member of the Bat-Family. Not only that, but Cass goes thru a journey that explores the limits of the Bat-Family's underlying culture of vengeance. And she reaches a natural conclusion to this (more on that later).
So let's get to the real bad. No not the 90s designed goons of David Cain or Deathstroke. No not the David Cain characterization. I'm talking about #1's wall of text that would make even Brian Michael Bendis blush.
This is only one page of it in the issue. We got TWO.
Until this issue, we never really got a "defined" timeline of Cass's EVIL period. We just figured OYL, Supergirl #14, Robin #161-162, and Titans East was how it happened. Turns out we were WRONG. Did we really need to see these pages of text? Not really.
In all honesty, I think a simpler solution would have been just tiny panels of Cass seeing the various people she killed when drugged up. At the very least, it would put faces on those Cass was forced to do. You could feel her rage on why she's hunting Slade/David Cain then.
Plus it feels like we're missing something as Tim was basically like Dick in Titans East. But now he's changed. Why? There could have been panels of Tim showing care for Cass in this. Instead, he just feels muted throughout this mini.
The first issue ends with Cass confronting another mystery lady murdering some of Slade/David Cain's assassins. And again, a problem I have with this mini.
These "children of Cain" feel so nameless save for Marque, who is the opposite of Cass. She embraces the violence that she was taught and is David Cain's own Frankenstein Monster. Throughout the mini she just comes off as superfluous and edgy. Really edgy...
I really think Beechen missed a prime chance here in having Cass trying to save someone like herself. Someone unlike Cass, didn't realize life as much as she did. That finally, Cain cracked the code (with help from the Slade juice). And Cass could try to redeem her.
So this whole theme of redemption could be all over the place then. Marque throughout this just feels, meh. Speaking of meh say hello to meaningless male love interest #3 for Cass.
This subplot just feels pretty meh. I get the why Beechen tried it. The writer from Batman: City of Light attempted this. Dylan Horrocks with Black Wind during his run on Vol. 1, and Andersen Gabrych attempted this in his run with Zero (and let's face it we only remember his name because he died).
The whole love subplot just feels so unnecessary here. Again we could have more stuff with Tim helping her. Something. Instead, we get someone we care little about. Because A.) we've seen it before and are so over it.
B.) Compare it with Shadow of the Batgirl which did this right. It balanced everything by showing Cass being the focus here (you know the actual main character), and less on the intended male love interest (until later when she gets to know him, Erik, more as the reader does too)
Which leads to this positive in #2. In one page we are given Babs realizing what Cass has been up too and is all for her going on this quest (probably knowing where this will end). Which is again, a good contrast to where Babs and Cass are here. Babs knows Cass needs this.
Bruce doesn't. Dick SOOOOO doesn't. But Babs fully understands. And I do love me some Babs being a good mentor.
Another positive in this issue does is laying the groundwork on how David Cain/Deathstroke forged this partnership when Cass/Marque visit a former colleague of both men.
That these two knowing one another was hinted at in Batgirl Vol. 1 by Kelley Puckett himself when Cain told Bruce in #5 of a job that was beneath him, Slade, and Lawton's talents. So in that regard, that's a nice callback.
Speaking of callbacks, you can't have Cass hunting Slade and not have run into Ravager (who was also actively hunting her father too during this time period of DC). And here the two's interaction is hit or miss.
Rose equally has a grudge against Slade for pulling the same stuff that he did to Cass. So they can easily relate to the other. Also, you have a built-in Rose going to more extremes than Cass (thanks to Sean McKeever's underrated Teen Titans run character arc involving her).
This is why Marque again comes off as the third wheel in all of this. If you're reading DC Comics at the time (or even now). You want the Cass/Rose interactions here. You don't care about the gritty edgy third person who's ruining the antics between the other two.
Like literally, the tension between Cass/Rose should be all that you need. There's history between them both. There are similar goals each wants. But it comes off as meh throughout this due to Marque. I mean look at this panel below and tell me who sticks out as the sore thumb?
Cause then you have panel later on in the book that makes you want to fist pump with these two now that are Marqueless. Who doesn't want to read THAT?!
Look, the idea of Marque is intriguing but there should have been a clear subject spawned from Deathstroke/David Cain's alliance. An assassin. A roadblock. A hurdle. Not nameless ninja assassins with badly designed outfits.
If this was just Marque fighting Rose/Cass then at least the fight could have meant more meaning. A face to go along with someone who's being down there as Rose/Cass got away from their murderdads.
Because there's no weight to any of these fights which should have more impact. Instead, they come off as weightless. And more blood spilled by Marque because the EDGE MUST FLOW!
But if #3 has another problem is Dick really being a bastard. Seriously, WHAT THE HELL DICK?! But then again, I get it now on why Dick is acting as such. Just that this bad characterization does come at the expense of Nightwing. Like WOW.
So here I am bashing the heck out of this third issue, with very little good finding in it. Well, there is one other additional good. That's the opening page/panel when Cass is out (due to Rose from last issue).
Where does this love of Cass/Shiva together come from? This comic! Beechen of all writers laid the seed that Bryan Edward Hill in Batman & the Outsiders and Michael Conrad & Becky Cloonan on Batgirls would use. The hidden desire Cass has: she wants Shiva to be a mother to her. Yes, Barbara is a good mother too (and dammit where is she in this panel above?!)
Regardless, Beechen does understand a want Cass has that James Tynion opened (and failed at) while Hill fleshed out WAAAAAAY more. So much more that now this has to be the standard of their relationship now. Literally, this is just gold between the two of them now.
But if you want to know where this hunger for Cass/Shiva to have an actual daughter/mother relationship came? You can thank Adam Beechen for that!
#4 finally has the long-awaited fight between Cass and Slade with it well being quite lackluster thanks in due part to Marque and the nameless daughters of Cain.
But I do confess there are a few dialogue pieces in #4 I do enjoy. Like Slade twisting the mental knife to get the better of Cass here.
We get no cathartic scenes for either Rose or Cass here (everyone seems to get robbed of having them with Slade at this time period in DC). Just a rushed end to a rushed subplot.
Again, this could have been the point where Cass was reaching to Marque and that could have been the point for Slade to decide, "WHELP TIME TO EXPLODE AND RUN!" Setting up the next issue. Instead, these nameless kids all die and we the reader feel nothing for them.
When in fact we should feel more. But so it is comics and we get the abrupt ending of the Cass/Rose union. Because this is all we get of Slade and her after this issue. Which is a pity.
Again given how both have similarities with horrible fathers. There should be much pathos here between Cass/Rose. How Cass sees going down this path of vengeance can poison you still (as it is doing to Rose). With Marque being.. ugh.
If that wasn't enough we get again nameless male love interest and ugh. Yeah, I'm just not gonna post more of that. Other than Cass realizes just who Slade and her pop would target to announce their alliance but also hurt the heroes: Oracle.
Which makes complete sense. I just wish the comic did a better job with it like Bruce Wayne: Murderer did only now David Cain this time going after Barbara (as he went after Bruce in that event story). There's a lot of things this comic could have done better at.
#5 opens with Dick, Bruce, and Tim fighting Cass due to the former ratting out her plans to kill David Cain to the latter two. Still, it is kind of cathartic Dick getting punted.
...
I hate myself for enjoying that.
If you're expecting any sort of closure between Dick/Cass here you aren't going to get any in this series. Dick continues to be a dick to Cassandra in Frank Tieri's fill-in arc of Batman & the Outsiders #13-14. After that, Dick FINALLY stops acting so OOC.
Here we go back into the positives of this series. I do enjoy Cass scoping the eventual scene of the crime out. She looks at the evidence she's got and with her skills predicts how and where her father will try to take the shot at Babs.
These pages come to show that Cass indeed can be a fine detective on her own right (thanks to Babs, Bruce, and Tim teaching her). Knowing how and when the crime could occur before it even does with what she knows.
And so we get probably the second-best part of this series. These next two pages.
I mean it's not Damion Scott, but Calafiore does have the nice little details here and there. Also nice of Beechen to use TWO homages of Cass here. From this set-up shot from Vol. 1 from above too…
To Cain about to strike a Gordon down and once again, his daughter stops him from taking the killshot. There's a bit of poetry there.
So in some callbacks, the creative team does nail them. I have to confess other than Marque, #5 is probably the portion of the story where it actually gets good. Even if it does come at the small price of David Cain's characterization.
Look, yes David Cain is a monster, but there's a difference between monsters who aren't portrayed as human and the ones who are. Cain had a perfect balance of this in Vol. 1 The stuff in this volume (and until again Shadow of the Batgirl) David just is a complete monster.
In that regard, the pathos of the villain just feels more hollow. If save Slade talked to him while in prison. Told him he could perfect and deliver that perfect child soldier. Bring a reason for his life again. I'd buy that more than what we got here in Vol. 2.
Why going into the final issue why I go into that mindset. It helps the reasons flow better for the character then what we actually got. And the ultimate fight between the two is handled well.
I also love that both Babs/Bruce are doing crowd control here (both at this point knowing this is something Cass NEEDS). I love that Charlie sees what is going on and her first instinct is to help Cass.
It's a pity we never got more interactions between Charlie/Cass. If only there were some subplots that could have been dropped so we could have got that.
While we don't get the cathartic stuff with Slade we do get it with Cass going up against her father. Just unloading the life he never gave her with a fury.
It's an almost Return of the Jedi moment of Vader/Luke's final duel with Cass just unleashing it all on her own father who cannot defend himself against the rage of his child. And much like Vader/Luke there's that moment when the later realized what will happen if he continues.
Like Luke, Cass has that realization too. That if she has her vengeance what will it solve? All this pain. All this suffering that's she has dealt with these last few months. Will killing him solve it? Of course, we know the answer cause it's Cass.
No. Being a killer is not who she is. She is a hero. So she attempts to save her father, but well as we find out this is where Bruce and Tim were hiding. Waiting and watching to see if Cass would come to this realization.
And we come to the best moment of this comic where Bruce puts his batdad side full-on. I love that the focus is on Cass here. Hearing what Bruce is saying and you just see the raw emotion of her just cracking up wanting this so bad until...
The hug from her true dad with a proud brother looking on. If only you know a stupid tie-in didn't have to ruin the good moment making any readers go, "What the hell is R.I.P.?!"
Like seriously, I'm surprised no one has photoshopped that R.I.P. out of the panel. If you take it out. Damn does this work more. But by putting it in there. "Oh yeah, Bruce is about to die. ...." And that emotion just leaves you to do this.
So if any of you great Photoshoppers out there can take that R.I.P. out? That'd be just great.
So Batgirl vol. 2 looking under this lens isn't the worst Cass story, nor does have enough good to be amazing to recommend. It's just there with both good and bad. It's average.
Hence it is Schrödinger's Cass. It is exactly this. But it was worth talking about. Because it is a period of Cass that should be talked of more. Because it does redeem Adam Beechen with the character.
Along with redeeming Cass with the Bat-Family. It's just a pity only Frank Tieri decided to follow on this and NO OTHER WRITER. Sadly not soon after we'd be getting the teases that Babs would be back as Batgirl from the Blackest Night mini caps at the end of BoP and Nightwing.
For certain folk at DC already made up their mind with the character, and she wouldn't be Batgirl or apart of the Bat-Family that much longer. I guess they assumed this Volume would be considered a "gift". That Cass got closure... Ugh.
If you want to know more about DC meddling. Then see here when I go more into detail on that.
That said, Batgirl Vol. 2 gets a lot of bad rap, but it isn't all bad. It's highly flawed, but there is some good in it. … And here's me going all RoTJ fully with it. 😋
With that, I'm gonna call it a night. Because tomorrow there are things I hope for tomorrow. REALLY AMAZING THINGS for us Cass fans tomorrow at long last.
But not freaking Batman/Catwoman: Gotham War. That can go to hell...

First character you loved:
Annet. From first frames she reminded me of my grandma and it was love on first sight.
John. Tbh, he is the first distinct character in whole Chapter I, so it's not hard to be first fav.
Ahti. Came for chill, stayed for lore.
the character you relate to most:
Joe. It is a very strange connection, but um. As you know, I'm ukrainian. And because of fact that my life is payed by lives of hundreds, theme of seems-like-irredeemable quilt and then redemption though actions hits close.
John again. Again, themes of quilt and redemption, but with (semi?) happy end. Also, untreated anxiety problems, yupiee!!
I think Jesse? Not thematically tho, mostly because I grew attached to her while playing.
the character you’d slap:
RILEY FLYNN. At this point my hate for Riley became a running joke among friends. I will elaborate on it later in this post, but for now SLAP HIS BALD HEAD WITH ALL HEAVENS MIGHTY.
Garry Miller. Also slap his bald head.
Dylan Faden. No hair? Get slapped. It's a rule here.
three favorite characters in order of preference:
John Pruitt (ofc he is), Sarah Gunning (need more of her), Beverly Keane (...i can explain-)
John Ward (who could've guess huh), father Garcia (who doesn't love Garcia?), Lisa (patiently waiting for her development in Ch IV)
Jesse Faden, Casper Darling (goofy aah man), Emily Pope (://3)
a character you liked at first but don’t like anymore:
Riley Flynn. Here we are. I could write an essay about why I don't have any respect for this man, but in short: self-pity doesn't equal redemption. At first, I was justifying his behaviour by mental problems, but then recalled that Angels blood fixes everything, so every action he takes really is dictated by his own will. And a lot of those actions is questionable to me.
Miriam. As character - she rocks. But I grew spiteful towards her because of her fucking boss fight in Chapter II that screws my attempts to get "Good Christian Boy achievement" over and over.
None!
a character you did not like at first but now do:
Beverly fucking Keane. As every normal human being, I hate her. But in same time, from the first watch couldn't deny how well written and played she is... And then something happend that now I have legit lesbian panic over her. I have no idea why. Please help me.
Lisa. At first, thought of her as cliche protag-love-interest™ (and she is tbh), but headcanons and expanding beyond original media did a trick.
Dylan Faden. I KNOW ONE PERSON HERE WON'T AGREE but I do like him! Just in my special ways!
(less than) three OTPs:
All canon ships... Plus Paul/Riley. Don't ask, my morals were questionable already on Bev's part.
Holy smokers (John/Lisa) and Vatican approved yaoi (Garcia/Alfred)
Jesse/Emily and Darling/Trench. Also, me and my bestie have codename "bumblebees" for first one. All because on Ukrainian their names together make something, remotely similar to word bumblebee: Джесі/Емілі (Jesse/Emily) -> джемілі (jemily) -> джмелі (bumblebees).

A what if meeting could be like: (I also imagine him being de-aged depending on his ghost age so like maybe 5 years had passed and many things happened for him to have so much malice but in a small scale cause he's a kid)
Danny: *burning something in GZ* Oh that looks damn fine.
The bats: *staring at the kid with hands on his hips being proud of his destruction*
Dick: He kinda looks like a mini-damian...
Tim: Acts like one too.
Damian: Shut it Drake.
Danny: *notices his audience* Oh hi! You're not from around here, obviously. *mutters* Does clockwork have anything to do with this? *out loud* What are you guys some kind of bat cult- hey why do you look like me but with green eyes? That's so weird. Are you a clone?
Damian: YOU are the clone. Did you not know?
Danny: No way! I've always been me! Where is your proof, without it you can't make me the clone! (Already thinking of his missing memories while panicking inside)
Damian: Stop being a fool. It'll only delay the inevitable.
Danny: But... but-
Dick: Doesn't seem like an evil clone to me (whispers)
Jason: Are you seriously ignoring the huge fire and property damage behind him?
Tim: Evil is a subjective word.
Jason: Wow replacement you're in on it too?
Dick: What? You're not? Isn't he adorable? Look at those chubby cheeks! We didn't get a chance to see that on Dami!
Tim: On second thought. He does look too evil now to me. (One demon brat is enough)
Back to Damian and Danny:
Danny: *already in tears cuz he's 5 rn* I didn't know (Thinking about his adoptive family, his past, Jazz, Dani, everyone, why nobody told him)
Damian: *sighs while pinching in between his eyebrows* You do not appear to have malice towards your original so it does not really matter. Would you like to come with us? (Already proceeding to think about how to locate the people who did this, know more about his mini-me's past, and decide whether he'd have to make someone pay for their transgressions)
Danny: What?
Damian: You do not need to decide now.
Dick: Yes! I'd be glad to know more about you mini-dami- oh I mean what is your name? Could you tell us?
Danny: Danny...
Dick: Danny! Nice to finally meet you! You can definitely come with us and maybe you'd get to eat Alfred's cookies- wait- does ghost eat human food?
Danny: No they don't... but I'm half dead half alive that came back just like that guy- (points at Jason)
Jason: Half what me?! *points at himself*
Tim: *rolls his eyes* This is going to take awhile... (wishing he brought coffee with him)
---------------
Danny will be a part of batfam while the bats get to know more about Danny's life. I see Damian becoming softer as time passed by teaching his mini-me (his blood kid) the ways of being the best Robin there is (he's already thinking of taking Danny as his Robin when he becomes batman XD)
And then Tim would be there taking the L because Damian will use him as targets for their practices just cause he's still a petty teenager hahahaha
Bruce would be there thinking ways how to teach his son how to properly take care of a child but really he has no idea so he had to always ask Alfred for these sessions - they all know- but he's doing his best so they don't call him out that much - they still do (specially Jason, he loved visiting the house for these sessions just to spite his dad)
Barbara, Steph, and Cass, will coo over this new child and spoil their nephew with gifts. Tim thinks it's too much but the girls doesn't care, they love their little nephew being a menace hahahaha Actually they already started to plan for his future date scenarios and promised to teach the boy how to properly woo a girl XD Dick approves! He specially started a collection of photos in an album when Danny became more comfortable in their home. He bribed Tim to help with either more time away from Damian and the brat cause Dick would distract them for some personal time or more love advises with Bernard.
All in all, Danny perfectly fits as the youngest child in the family. Danny found a new family with the bats ^^
"Come get your child." Robin stared incredulously at this...entity? Being? He was a child himself, how could he possibly have a kid of his own.
The creature huffed, seeming very put out by the young vigilantes confusion. "What is there to not understand? Your child has been running wild in the Infinite Realms for a while now. Ever since that portal exploded hes been taking his emotions out on everyone!" The thing said, throwing her hands into the air, "And you!" Robin stepped back a pace or two when he suddenly found a very sharp claw in his face, "I had to do a lot of searching to even find you! What kind of parent are you?!"
"I'm not."
The entity opened and closed its mouth a few times like a fish before suddenly becoming furious, "Its no wonder hes like this when his gardian has so little interest in him! Did you know the other day he plugged a liquor bottle with a cloth and lit it on fire? I don't even know where he got it, but he lit the cloth and yelled something like, "mazzle toff" and threw it at my own adult son!"
"..."
"When my little boy burst into flames do you know what he said to me?"
"...no, but I feel like you're going to tell me anyways."
"I'm sorry ma'am I wasn't expecting there to be that much fire."
"That much? So he fully intended to set someone ablaze but the amount of fire is what troubled him?"
"Yes!" She growled, exasperated, "Please come get your child as soon as possible! Hes terrorizing the whole dimension!"
Damian found himself staring at open space the woman had occupied previously before contacting Oracle through the coms, "Did you get all of that?"
It was Grayson that spoke, "Every word."
---
Aka Danny has a lot of misplaced aggression and kinda terrorizes parts of the GZ. Unfortunately for him hes a clone of one of the bats (weather or not you want it to be Damian, Project R or someone else that hes cloned from is up to you) and they're coming to him to assess if he's an evil clone or mindless or whatever.
Too bad Danny sucks at first impressions.

BDBWM Day 21 | Running Away
original prompt | complete masterlist
TW: Blood and injury
Marinette wakes up in the bedroom back in the manor. She winces at the pain on her abdomen, looking down to see it bandaged up perfectly, perhaps a work of Alfred's. She can't tell what time it is, but sees that it's still dark outside.
I messed up. She chokes back on her tears. Trixx . . . the fox necklace. All gone.
"Kitten." Plagg flies into her view, accompanied by a fidgeting Tikki.
"I'm a bad guardian." Marinette digs the heels of her palms at the corner of her eyes. "I messed up so bad. I lost a Miraculous. My family knows about me now and they'll hate me for lying to them. Dad won't approve of me as a hero. I'll ruin this family just like I ruin everything else---"
"Marinette! Breathe!" Tikki coaxes. Marinette sucks in lungfuls of air, clutching at her hair. Her entire body is numb, but her wound burns deep into her skin.
Slightly trembling, she hops out of bed and heads towards the Miracle Box.
"What are you doing?" Tikki asks.
"I can't---I can't face them." She shakes her head. "Not right now . . . I---I can't."
I've been careless. Too relaxed. I thought I was doing well, that I could spend every day with my family with no care. But she's wrong. There are always enemies lurking, wanting the powers for themselves. Bruce won't like that kind of life for her. He'll attempt to take over, even keep her from being guardian, because of his protective tendencies. It'll change things with her brothers too.
Marinette throws on the glasses and transforms to open up a portal despite the kwamis' protests. There's one place I can go to now. She puts a hand against her middle and steps in, staggering into the bedroom before collapsing on a rug.
Felix stares at her with wide eyes and parted mouth. A suitcase lies atop the bed.
"Marinette!" He rushes to help her up and place her on his bed as she detransforms. "Your father called and told us what happened. I was preparing to fly to Gotham."
Marinette whimpers at the pain when she attempts to reply. Felix curses under his breath and makes a mad dash towards his bathroom. "Your wound opened up. Hold on."
Her boyfriend attentively fixes the stitch and redresses the wound while pressing gentle kisses on her head every now and then. She feels an incoming nausea seeing all the blood spreading on the sheets and pillows. Finally, when Felix finishes, he brushes her hair away from her face and asks, "Why did you come here?"
Marinette sniffs. "I don't want to talk to them. I messed up Fe."
"Shh, start from the beginning, love." He takes her hand. "If you want to talk, that is."
"There was someone from the Order who came to Gotham to the Miraculouses from me." She blinks her tears away. "He was going to hurt Dick, Jay and Damian so I stopped him. My fox timer ran out and he got the ring at first but I took it back. He got the fox instead and stabbed me."
She looks up at Felix pleadingly. "Can I stay here first?"
"Of course, ma belle. Do you want me to call the others?"
She hesitates for a second before answering, ". . . Okay. They need to know too and I'll ask help for the search."
"And your family?"
"I---I don't know. I don't want to see them yet. They'll be disappointed."

Is TASK FORCE Z in continuity? (Or: “A Fool’s Errand”)
A lot of people, including myself, have been wondering if Task Force Z (the book where Jason Todd and Harvey Dent lead a team of undead villains hopped up on Lazarus resin) is canon or an AU title.
I’d initially assumed it was the latter, given that it was a zombie book launching around the same times as AU titles like Dark Knights of Steel and DC Vampires, co-written by TFZ writer Matthew Rosenberg. However, I didn’t realize that TFZ was initially established in a backup story in Detective Comics over the preceding months (explaining how Jason ended up with this team), thereby making it in-continuity! Right?
(”They’re DYING to meet you.” One can just imagine Harvey patting himself on the back for that joke, like the embarrassing uncle he is. Also, that fish guy isn’t even on the actual team in the book and only shows up in flashbacks as a lab rat. Is this the first indication of the book changing plot details at the last second?)
But as the little blurb says on the bottom, this is where things get complicated.
First off, there’s Bane. He was supposedly murdered around the time of the Joker War, wherein the Joker showed he did not approve of Bane’s methods in Tom King’s run and wanted to show his displeasure. It was a pretty ignominious end for a villain like Bane, and as far as deaths in comics go, that looked pretty final. There’s a body and everything!
(Also, Astrid Arkham supposedly died... at some point? I can’t find any scene where she died. Did someone forget to actually show her getting killed off before this happened? At least Man-Bat died onscreen, also in the Detective Comics backups.)
So having him show up in TFZ makes sense. He’s dead, now he’s a zombie shell of his former self, slowly regaining memories of who he is and what he’s done (like murdering Alfred). Which is something Jason made sure of before kicking him off a roof to kill him all over again.
However, thanks to Lazarus resin, Harvey and his team were able to scoop up the gooey pieces of Bane and regrow him in a tank. Because as a wise man once said, “A lot of tape and a little patience makes all the difference!” So zombie Bane is back, still carrying out Harvey’s orders much to Jason’s displeasure.
EXCEPT he showed up the very next month alive and well in the pages of the Joker solo series, written by James Tynion IV, the guy who killed off Bane in the first place!
So what the fuck?
We don’t yet know how Bane survived what seemed to be a pretty clear death, and I imagine answers are forthcoming in the next issue of Joker due out in late April. It seems like Bane’s faked death was likely part of Tynion’s personal long-game, and it’s entirely possible that either he or Rosenberg will explain what’s going on in their respective books sooner or later.
Like, we know clones play a role in TFZ, so maybe ZomBane is a clone? But how would that explain him having Bane’s memories like killing Alfred? Well, maybe he was programmed with them. But that would assume that some clone-programmer would’ve had to have known about Bane killing Alfred and why Alfred was important to Jason, so CloneZomBane would express understanding about why Jason is re-killing him. The only person who might have been able to supply that information is Harvey, and that’s even assuming that Rosenberg remembers that Harvey knows that Bruce is Batman. A lot of big “ifs” here!
Now, there may be an explanation forthcoming, if this little tidbit from the very bottom of the final page of the most recent issue of TFZ is any indication...
... but I can’t shake the suspicion that any twist about ZomBane not being the real Bane wasn’t always the original plan for Rosenberg’s story. The Bane reveal in Joker happened well over a month ago, plenty of time to change story details at the last minute (see also: the zombie fish-man who was set up to be a main team member, then was gone one month later).
Look. So long as there’s an explanation, that’s fine. But there really needs to be an explanation, especially one that holds SOME water (the bucket can be a little leaky, that’s fine), and I’m still not confident that one is forthcoming. This is DC, after all, a company that has a long history of making shit up as they go, with editorial teams who don’t communicate with each other or even care about consistency.
Which brings us to the other big problem: Mr. Freeze. He shows up in the first issue of TFZ and promptly dies in an explosion.
Another ignominious death of a great villain, only without even a body being left behind, so it’d be easy enough to either ignore or have it be a setup for Freeze becoming a new zombie member. So what happens? DC does both. First, he shows up alive and well in Mariko Tamaki’s Arkham storyline in Detective Comics:
Then, little over a month later, he pops up as a zombie in TFZ alongside the reconstructed possible-clone-possibly-not ZomBane:
The events of TFZ follow a clear trajectory, with Freeze dying in the first issue and then getting reconstructed with Lazarus resin to appear in the fifth issue. But his appearance in ‘Tec plainly ignores that, which again feels like editors either not communicating or caring.
Here’s the thing, we comic fans know that continuity is a joke. If it really mattered, we’d also have gotten some acknowledgement of how Freeze managed to overcome where he was left off in Peter Tomasi’s run of ‘Tec, where a now-evil Nora Fries injected him with a serum which made it so that he couldn’t survive without being kept in cryostasis.
How did his condition improve back to the point where he could be awake and in his cold suit again? Fuck you, that’s how. He just is. In fact, that story may never have happened. In fact, what story? You’re imagining things. Buy more comics.
By the way, I checked: all these stories were overseen by the same editors, Paul Kaminski and Dave Wielgosz. So this isn’t a case of different editors not being on the same page as they rush to put out several monthly titles. It’s all the same guys.
Thing is, I’d be willing and able to overlook all of this if it weren’t for one problem: I’m actually invested in the plot of TFZ. Particularly, I’m invested in the brilliant new use of Two-Face as a complicatedly redemptive figure, doing shady work with good intentions and becoming a protective figure to Jason Todd. I love seeing Harvey Dent finally be something more than just a villain, and I’m amazed at how much I love his dynamic with Jason.
I don’t want to see this get ignored next year or even next month by whatever writer wants to come along and use Two-Face as a bad guy again. Hell, I’m already not comfortable with how TFZ is ignoring how Batman cares about Harvey, and bent over backwards to save his best friend’s soul in Tomasi’s story from 2020, all just so Rosenberg can stoke more tension between Bruce and Jason.
Despite this, I’m loving this take on Harvey and I want it to stick. But how can I do that, knowing it could be undone at any point? Possibly even by another writer in a different book before TFZ is even finished!
Look, we all know continuity is a joke at DC. At a certain point, trying to look for any consistency seems like setting yourself up for mockery. Ha ha, foolish little baby fan is trying to make sense of comics! To paraphrase MST3K, perhaps it’s best to just repeat yourself “It’s just DC, I should really just relax.”
But at a certain point, this callous disregard for even a semblance of canon--especially within weeks apart!--just becomes exhausting. Why bother getting invested in anything? If DC doesn’t care, then why the hell should I? Why should anyone? I’ve seen that question lead more than one person to quit superhero comics. Maybe that’s just the nature of the industry, and it’s foolish to expect anything better. But if I weren’t a fool, I probably wouldn’t still be reading DC, would I?
So is Task Force Z in continuity? As with any other DC story, it’s Schrodinger’s Canon: both in and out until otherwise stated and even then subject to change at any given time. Buy more comics.

Dick Grayson Week 2022 Day 5 - Omega Dick Grayson
Day 5 of @dickgraysonweek - Omega Dick Grayson
Ao3 Link
Dick spent a good deal of time fighting past his more basic Omega instincts. They could compromise him in the field, could cause him problems at school and at work, and they have caused problems with the headstrong Alpha that was Bruce. Dick pushed his baser Omega Instincts into a box and sealed it up tight, doing his best to project himself as a Beta, going so far as to even wear scent-blockers while on patrol and when he left Bruce, he had slapped those patches on to just get through the day without Alpha’s leering and making lewd comments about him.
Dick never felt the urge to settle down and have children, he never wanted to bend over and submit to any Alpha he ever met. Dick gets along well with kids, but that was more of a him thing than an Omega thing as he has met many Omega’s who were horrible with children. So when Dick got handed Damian, a baby Alpha in the making, he rolled with it and did his best to bond with him.
Somewhere along the way, he had eased off his scent blockers when out of the Batman suit and let himself fuss over Damian a bit more and to his (and Alfred’s) delight, Damian had shyly inched closer and closer until it took considerable effort for Dick to not call Damian ‘pup’ whenever he did something well or adorable. Dick had come to the realization that Damian Wayne was his pup, not by blood but by choice. There was only one fly in the ointment and that was Talia fucking Al Ghul.
Said fly was standing across the rooftop, holding her hand out towards Damian, who was wearing his Robin uniform with pride now fully understanding the history of the name and the colours and Dick all but preened when Damian had accepted the offer of the name, the legacy, he was the first Robin chosen by the original, one that Dick was positive his parents would have loved and approved of.
Dick glowered behind the cowl of the bat suit as Talia tried to guilt his pup into leaving with her, to go back to her world of blood and coldness. One that Damian had finally begun to leave behind and accept all sides of himself that didn’t include murder and non-stop training. “Why now Talia? Bruce has been gone for a long time,” Dick growled out, his chest rattling below the bat symbol. That box he had sealed his basic instincts away in was starting to crack open, Damian scooted an inch closer to Dick, concern tinting his scent as he gave his Batman a side look, his face giving nothing away. “I wanted to see how well an Omega could train my son, but I see now that all you’ve done is made him weak, weak like any common Omega.” Talia sneered, free hand resting on the handle of her gun that was on her thigh. “Weak like any common Omega? You Alpha’s, you truly know nothing. Damian is not weak because of me, and he’s not strong because of you. He is strong because Damian is himself and he is growing as a person. You have no right to stroll back in here and demand he return to your bloody life with you.” Dick snarled, iris’ burning gold behind the lens of the cowl, Damian inched closer again and his scent turned into one that related to pride and happiness.
“He is my son, he needs a strong Alpha hand in guiding him. Damian, come here now.” Talia demanded, forcing her Alpha strength into the final three words. It was heavy and heady and Damian’s knees buckled a bit under the weight of the Alpha command from his sire. “Damian, do you want to go with Talia?” Dick asked, unbothered by the posturing. Bruce was much worse than this and Dick dealt with that almost every other day since he returned as Nightwing. “…No, I want to stay here with you and Pennyworth,” Damian whispered, hand twitching like he wanted to reach up and clutch at the cape hanging from Dick’s shoulders. Dick had done that himself whenever he felt insecure when he was younger and as much as he would love to wrap his pup up in the cape and protect him, he had a job to do.
“I won’t let her take you,” Dick promised before he gently nudged Damian back before he bore his teeth with a deep rumbling snarl. Talia was startled at the sound, it was nothing she had ever heard come from Omega, it gave Dick an opening and he lunged forward, landing a solid punch across her face, breaking her nose with a satisfying crack.
Gunshots echoed over the roof as Talia shot rapidly at Dick who was darting and twisting to avoid the bullets, moving at a speed that neither Talia nor Damian had ever seen from Dick, from an Omega before. With a snarl still rolling from his throat, Dick delivered solid, well-placed punches and kicks, forcing Talia back inch by inch, cracking and breaking a few bones in the process.
Talia shouted as she was flipped over Dick’s shoulder and pinned to the ground with Dick’s boot on her throat and his knee pinning her wrist until she was forced to release her gun.
“You underestimated me Alpha Bitch, you always underestimated me because I am an Omega. You hear about the damages Feral Alpha’s can cause correct? Omegas can go feral as well, but here’s some new information for you. While Feral Alpha’s cause damage because they lose control, Feral Omega’s cause damage because they are in control.” Dick explained simply, as he twisted his foot making her choke and clutch at his ankle, face a mess of blood and forming bruises. “Every Omega is always an inch or two away from going Feral. I have trained hard to keep that side of myself under wraps, but today you made the mistake of going after my pup. Damian is my pup and I will slaughter you where you stand if you try to take him from me again. This is your only warning. I’d advise you to heed it.” Dick snarled, unashamed to bare his rather sharp and pointed Omega canines.
“Do you understand?” Dick cocked his head to the side as he applied more pressure to Talia’s throat and wrist.
“Y-Yes, yes! I understand,” Talia gritted out, hating each word but the fact that Dick had taken her out so effectively, so quickly, so ruthlessly only proved his statement correct and while Bruce may have a rule about not killing, she had no clue if this held true to Dick Grayson.
“Good, now get out of my city and stay the fuck away from my pup.” Dick let out a roar, blowing her hair back off of her face, leaving her shaken as Omega’s rarely if ever roar and this roar was more fierce than any Alpha roar she had heard.
The moment Dick stepped away, she rolled off the roof and grappled away in the night without a look back.
“Ah fuck, I’m sorry if I scared you Lil D, I haven’t lost control like that in a while.” Dick didn’t turn back to face Damian, now afraid to see his pup’s reaction. Dick grunted in surprise when a small body collided with his back and arms wrapped around his stomach tightly. “Thank you,” Damian’s words were muffled against Dick’s back but Dick heard him without an issue, Omega’s senses were generally more advanced than Alpha’s save for scent. “I would do it you know… If she tried to hurt you or take you away without your permission, I would kill her.” Dick tipped his head back as the rain began to fall from the dark clouds above.
“I know,” Damian said simply, contentment and love coming from him and Dick just smiled fully content as he held his cape up and shielded his Robin, his pup from the falling rain.
“Let’s go home pup,”

How did I not think of this? No one has ever been more right.
Bruce still uses Alfred's original ring tone out of spite because if Dick was so proud of his first approved idea, why did he try to replace two of the original three ring tones? Hm?!
For B's next birthday, the kids get him his own remix, and he can't tell if he's touched or furious. Probably both. That seems right for something his kids did on his behalf.
Consider:
The Bats all have personalized ring tones for one another, but everyone has both a civilian and a Bat ring tone. The civilian ones are chaos, with everyone choosing whatever they want for their various family members and friends. BUT! Everyone has a single Bat tone that all other team members use for them.
The catch? Bruce forbid them from choosing their own Bat ring tones because he proposed this plan back in Dick's Robin days and he IMMEDIATELY picked "Toxic." The choice was not well received.
Bruce: Dick, I will not be alerted to the fact that you're in danger by some Britney Spears song.
Dick: First of all, it is not some Britney song, it is the Britney song. That song finally won her a Grammy.
Bruce: *sighs*
Dick: Second of all, it won't tell you when I'm in danger... it'll tell you when Robin is.
Bruce:
Bruce: I'm taking the Walkman out of the Robin kit.
Dick: *offended gasp*
(Yes, Dick is old enough for a Walkman. No, you will not change my mind. Yes, the Tim-and-on siblings all find that hilarious. Yes, Jason has to be VERY careful not to mention that he borrowed that Walkman for years because he was uncomfortable taking expensive electronics out and about with him.)
Anyway!
Dick then proposes a slew of other songs for the whole team to use, all of which are pop culture references, e.g. the Scrubs theme because they're not Superman and also they're a dysfunctional family of coworkers; the theme from the Godfather because "let's be honest, B, we are basically our own mafia"; Where is My Mind" because lol identity shenanigans, etc. The list is endless. Bruce spends weeks groaning every time one of his sons texts him.
Eventually, they compromise on the version of "The Entertainer" from The Sting because they're hiding in plain sight to enact a mission defending good people in a hard world. Bruce, Dick, and Alfred are all so pleased with this that they each take a different section of the song as their ring tone.
Then Barbara becomes Batgirl, so she gets a section... and then Jason becomes Robin and gets one, too... and then Tim, then Steph, and then Cass is taken in, and... uh oh. That's a lot of people for one song.
But it's family tradition! They can't stop now. That would be so unfair to the new kids, B!
So they start using alternate arrangements of the song. Bruce has mellowed slightly on the "no choosing your own" thing. As long as it's a version of "The Entertainer" (within reason) he'll allow it.
Tim retroactively changes his ring tone to a weird groove-ska arrangement Bart randomly sent him on YouTube because have you met Tim Drake? Of course he went for hilarious obscurity. (Bruce grits his teeth and approves it after lots of prompting from Dick and Alfred). Steph makes it her mission to find a weirder one (Bruce agrees because he's too tired to deal with accusations of favoritism).
Cass creates her own arrangement on theremin because apparently she knows how to play the theremin. No one is sure why. Upon inquiry, she just says, "spooky noises are fun," but does not elaborate further even when she's asked to do so. A Batgirl's gotta have her secrets—Babs taught her that.
When Jason starts working with his family again, he pays an aspiring music producer within Red Hood's ranks to create a minor key remix of the original Robin II ring tone. His siblings (minus Cass) are VERY jealous he has his own personalized arrangement. Dick, Tim, and Steph end up paying this goon who owns Garage Band to do ones for them, too. Duke does the same when he joins the team.
Meanwhile, in a fit of little brotherly pique, Damian steals Tim's original ring tone. He hopes to rub salt in the Robin replacement wounds. He fails! Tim finds it beyond funny that Damian's ring tone is groove-ska. So Damian quietly pays the amateur producer to make him one that's cooler than Tim's. He pays a ludicrous amount, though, because Steph paid for one cooler than Jason's and Tim paid for one cooler than Steph's.
(Dick wanted one cooler than Jason's too, but he had $63.02 in his bank account at the time and Bruce flat out refused to use the Batbudget on "a super cool ring tone that's better than Jay's." Eventually, Dick just paid himself for an averagely cool one. In installments.)
At this point, the Bats have single-handedly given this fledgling producer enough money to quit being a goon and start an indie music studio. His first customers are mostly superheroes from out of town who like what the Bats have going on and want their own team ring tones. Harley and Ivy get in on that action, too.
Then, as word spreads, every local crook/henchperson with a side band (there are many) flocks to the studio to have their stuff produced by one of their own. Gotham rogues suddenly have an unemployment problem, while the city finds itself with a flourishing indie music scene that puts Metropolis' to shame. The entire state of New Jersey is celebrating the dual victory.
Dick has never been so glad someone doesn't like Britney Spears' magnum opus.

Character: Jason Todd x Fem!Reader
Summary: When Y/N fell in love with Jason Todd, she didn’t realize the normalcy she lost would become such a problem in their relationship. And she didn’t know how much pain it would cause to hide her boyfriend’s secrets.
Word Count: 4,600 – One Shot
A/N: This is probably a really personal story. And you all might hate it or not relate to it. But oh well...
Y/N had her music playing in her headphones just quietly enough so she could hear them announce when her plane was boarding.
Between corporate holidays and what was left of her vacation days for the year, she was able to go home for a week and a half.
Only, she was hoping that this year she wouldn’t be going home alone.
But when Jason got sucked into a case two weeks before their flight back to her hometown, she knew there was no way he’d be accompanying her.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I just–“ Jason had tried to tell her when she realized they weren’t going to be spending the holidays together.
“You don’t have to apologize. There are more important things right now than meeting my crazy family,” Y/N laughed lightly. “But they’ll be bummed.”
Jason still looked so down guiltily. He knew that Y/N had been downplaying how excited she was for her family to meet him.
Yeah, Y/N was upset, but her family was even more upset. Being in a different part of the country and them never putting in the effort to visit her, they had yet to meet Jason. Even when the two of them had been dating for 10 months.
Y/N had met all of Jason’s brothers, along with Bruce and Alfred. It had all been against his will, his family strategically running into them or invading his apartment when they knew Y/N would be there. Jason acted annoyed by it, but Y/N knew he was happy for her to meet them and without him having to act like he cared.
But Jason had only ever waved on FaceTime to her family or sometimes answered calls from them when Y/N left her phone next to him and went to another room.
It wasn’t like Y/N needed her family’s approval. She knew what she wanted and what was best for her. Their opinions didn’t hold as much weight with her as they thought.
But Y/N also had never introduced her family to a boyfriend before. Things either fizzled out before then or the relationship was so casual that the thought of even mentioning a boy-toy’s name in passing to her family made her want to jump out a window.
———
“So Jason couldn’t get out of work last minute?” Y/N’s older sister, Kate, asked as they drove to her house after picking her up from arrivals.
And so it began.
“No,” Y/N answered. “His boss is sort of an asshole. He’s a workaholic and can’t fathom why anyone else would ever be anything different.”
The truth was that Jason didn’t really have a job. When it came to income, Jason was resourceful. He was still a hitman for hire. But once the killing part of that job stopped – which was long before Y/N ever met him – it didn’t rake in as much money. Most of his money was either stolen from criminals or he would work odd jobs here and there.
However, the lie Jason and Y/N had agreed on was that he was a mechanic. And Jason did know absolutely everything there was to know about cars and motorcycles. He’d even promised Y/N that if she ever decided she wanted him to drop the vigilante life, he would do just that and start his own mechanic shop. But Y/N knew better than to ever ask that of him.
“Cars don’t stop breaking – even around the holidays,” Y/N joked darkly.
“Mhmm,” her sister answered.
Y/N already knew what her family thought of her boyfriend’s “job”: it wasn’t good enough for them.
The only reason they let it slide was because they knew Bruce Wayne was his adoptive father. Therefore they interpreted Jason’s ‘lack of ambition’ as his personal rebellion against his privilege and upbringing.
“Mom said he sent flowers and a bottle of wine to the house today and apologized for not being able to make it,” Kate added.
Y/N quickly looked at her in surprise.
“So I’m guessing from your reaction that it wasn’t your idea,” Kate teased.
“No,” Y/N shook her head. “He didn’t even tell me he did that.”
That was a Bruce Wayne move for sure. It didn’t matter that Jason had a rocky relationship with him, the Wayne charm and manners were deceivingly contagious.
————
Later that night, when everyone was in bed and Y/N decided to finally unpack. And she was surprised to find two of Jason’s t-shirts hidden in her bag. They were her favorites of his, always stealing them. Mostly she wore them to lounge around the apartment or to wear to bed. But her favoritism was in no way hidden.
Jason must’ve snuck them in her bag while she wasn’t looking.
Y/N smiled as she grabbed one of the shirts and raised it to her nose. It still smelled like him.
It was enough to make her feel guilty for not having called him yet. She’d texted him that she landed, but other than that, she’d been pretty silent.
She grabbed her cell and dialed.
“Hey, you.”
He always answered her calls as if they made his day, even if she’d called him multiple times that day already. His reaction to her calls never failed to make Y/N smile.
“I didn’t really expect you to pick up,” Y/N admitted.
“Always got time for you,” he answered lightly.
But then she heard background noise: wind blowing, distant sirens, people shouting at each other nearby.
Jason was on patrol. Or maybe he was doing some recon.
But Y/N knew not to ask.
“I see some of your clothes made the trip,” Y/N commented through a smile. Jason could hear the smile in her voice. “Those t-shirts have a mind of their own…”
“And my mom thought the flowers and card were sweet,” she added.
“I might not have met her yet, but I know that’s not gonna be enough to win her over,” Jason answered darkly.
Y/N didn’t say anything, because they both knew he was right.
“Flight was fine?” Jason asked, changing the subject.
“Mhmm.”
“I miss you.”
Y/N shook her head and laughed. “No, you don’t. I’ve been gone for like 12 hours.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
She rolled her eyes. “Always the romantic.”
More sirens could be heard. They sounded closer this time. “Are you being careful?” All playfulness had disappeared from her voice.
“Of course.”
Y/N sighed. “Jason, I’m serious. Please, be safe.”
“I know. I know. Don’t worry about me.”
“You know that’s not gonna happen, J.”
He ignored her comment. “I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
————————
To say Y/N’s time at home was rough…was an understatement.
If Y/N wasn’t being asked a million questions about Jason, she was being interrogated for why he wasn’t there. And if Jason wasn’t the subject of the conversation, people acted like she was single – some even talking about setting her up.
Y/N realized she preferred the former.
Every year, her family threw a giant party.
And for the past five years, Y/N had always been the only one that was single. All of her siblings, all of her cousins, all of their family friends, all of their neighbors…every single one of them had a significant other during those years.
Everyone...except her. Now, this year, all of them had kids or were expecting.
It was exhausting.
Sometimes Y/N felt like they were all robots programmed to do the exact same things at the exact same time – no original thought to be had.
Y/N would be lying if she didn’t spend most of the party wishing Jason was at her side. He would make fun of awkward situations with her. And he would stick up for her when her family teased her a little too much.
The other thing Y/N wasn’t prepared for was unintentionally studying her family’s boyfriends or husbands. She felt like she was watching everyone’s relationships through a different lens now that she herself had her own. And to put it as kindly as possible…she was not impressed.
Y/N noticed how none of the men offered to help in the kitchen, instead deciding to sit on the couch and watch football and scream at the television. Or how when her cousin handed her son to her husband, and he acted like he didn’t even know how to hold the one year old. And later, when his diaper needed to be changed, he handed him back to his wife as if he had no idea how to do it himself.
Yet her family was stuck on Jason not being able to visit or that he was a mechanic.
What did someone’s job matter if they treated her like she was their world and he the best thing to ever happen to her?
If Jason were here, he would be in the kitchen cooking. And if they had a kid, it would be a 50/50 job – not a burden only Y/N had to bare. He would try to get to know everyone because he would want to know the people who raised the woman he loved. He’d make sure to check in on Y/N every once in awhile, making sure she didn’t need anything.
Thinking about it all made Y/N miss Jason even more.
Needing to get some air, she decided to go outside and let the winter chill refresh her. It had been getting too hot in the house.
Y/N pulled her phone out of her back pocket and tapped Jason’s name.
“Hey, you.”
“Hi,” she sighed.
Just hearing his voice made her feel a bit better and tension left her body.
“What’s wrong?” Jason quickly asked.
“Nothing. Just…wanted to check in.”
For a second, she was going to explain that she had the sudden realization that all the men connected to her family were trash. And witnessing it was making her miss him more. But she didn’t really want to waste her breath and she figured she’d just come off dramatic more than sincere.
“Are you at your apartment?” She asked quickly.
“Yeah, I’m gonna leave for patrol in a bit…”
Then Y/N’s mind suddenly thought, ‘Fuck it.’
“Jason?”
“Yeah, kid?”
“If you were here…” She began softly.
“Mhmm,” he encouraged.
“What would you be doing?”
Jason was a bit confused by the question for a second. But he slowly got what she was asking.
“Well,” he took in a shallow breath. “I would’ve stolen Alfred’s famous chocolate chip cookie recipe and whipped up those bad boys to bring over. And I’d pretend to care about football with your dad.”
That made Y/N laugh.
“I’d help your mom in the kitchen, even when she pretended not to want it.”
“Really laying it on thick, huh?”
But Y/N knew he was right. Jason was the cook between the two of them – and a good one, too. He also was a helper. He couldn’t sit back and watch someone do something while he did nothing. No matter how big or small.
“Shhh,” Jason reprimanded and then continued. “But most importantly, I’d try to get as many embarrassing stories about you as I possibly could.”
“Well, thank goodness you’re not here then,” she teased with a roll of her eyes.
Jason was quiet a second before he asked, “Wanna tell me what’s wrong now?”
“Nothing’s wrong. Just miss you.”
“I miss you, too.”
“All my family’s boyfriends and husbands are losers. And I guess I’m just now realizing it.”
“Ahh,” Jason noted.
Now he really knew why she’d asked her question.
“It’s snowing here,” he told her as he looked out the window. “It’s almost making Gotham look pretty.”
“Are you going to the manor for Christmas?”
“Probably not,” Jason answered.
“Jason,” she grumbled. “What are you going to do instead? Sit in your apartment alone?”
“I’m gonna patrol. Crime doesn’t take holidays, Y/N.”
“Cheesy,” she pointed out. “Please be with your family, Jason. I don’t want you to be alone. OK?”
“I’ll think about it.”
Y/N knew that was as good as it was going to get.
Then she felt something on her cheek and she looked up. “Hey, it just started snowing here, too…” She told him with her head tilted back.
“I love you,” he sighed.
“I love you, too. Be careful tonight, Jason.”
Y/N gave herself a few more moments outside before returning to the party.
When she walked back inside, she immediately heard her name. But no one was calling to her.
She was being talked about.
She recognized her mom and sister’s voices, and then a couple of her aunts. They were talking around the corner, completely unaware that Y/N was in hearing distance.
So Y/N couldn’t help but linger.
“She says he works a lot. Every time I facetime her, he’s never there,” her sister Kate told the women. “I wouldn’t even really know what he looked like if it weren’t for her photos that she’s sent me. He doesn’t have any social media.”
“I just can’t believe he couldn’t get work off. Around the holidays?” Her mom added in utter disbelief. “Sounds like it won’t be surprising when she finds out he’s been unfaithful,” one her aunts commented.
The group hummed in agreement, but also disappointment.
“He doesn’t even live in Metropolis. He lives in Gotham,” her mother supplied, only further backing the idea that Jason wasn’t committed. “God knows why. But I hate that Y/N is constantly going there. No good news comes from that city.”
Y/N clenched her teeth in anger.
If only they knew the truth about Jason.
He was a hero and risked his life every night for an entire city – a city that had done nothing but hurt him. And he was 20 times the man than any of the men in their family.
She just wanted to scream at them for being so judgmental about a person they’d never even met.
But she couldn’t.
So Y/N stormed up to her childhood bedroom and decided she had enough of the party.
She shouldn’t have come home for the holidays. She would’ve rather waited for Jason to get back from his Red Hood work than listen to her family misjudge the first man she ever truly loved and wanted to share with them.
————————
Y/N was so tired when she got off the plane.
She felt like a zombie as she walked to baggage claim to grab her duffle.
What she wasn’t expecting was to find her boyfriend waiting for her in arrivals.
Y/N had told him she would just get a car.
But Jason seemed to have other ideas.
Y/N’s entire face brightened at the sight of him.
She practically ran to him and jumped into his arms.
Jason chuckled at her enthusiasm.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, her words muffled by his body.
“I thought I’d surprise you,” Jason said through a smile before he kissed her head.
Y/N didn’t respond, just held him tightly.
“Come on. Let’s get your bag and head home,” he finally told her.
—
“So, how was it?” Jason asked once they got into his car. Y/N shrugged, “It was fine.”
Her lack of details and curt response was enough warning for Jason to realize things were not totally fine between them.
He didn’t bother asking for more details during the car ride home. Instead, he answered all her questions about what he had been up to, how the case was going, if his family was alright.
Once they got back to Y/N’s apartment in Metropolis, the grace period seemed to be over.
Y/N had grown quiet as she moved around her apartment, unpacking and putting all her things away.
Jason walked into her bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed as she folded clean clothes. “This might be a shot in the dark. But I can’t help but feel that you’re not happy with me,” he finally pointed out.
She didn’t answer or look at him, just kept folding.
“Did something happen while you were at home?” Jason pushed.
She still didn’t answer. So Jason reached for her hands, holding them gently.
“Hey, talk to me. What’s going on?”
“I just didn’t expect how hard it was going to be…” she finally whispered with a bowed head.
“What would be?”
“Just going home without you,” she explained.
“Did something happening?”
“I mean, kinda? Not really. They just…” she hesitated. Did she really want to confess all of this to him? She knew it would only hurt him. "They think you’re a bad boyfriend.”
Jason just nodded slowly.
He should’ve seen this coming. Of course her family didn’t think he was good enough. How could they think anything different?
“I’m just…fucking frustrated,” Y/n groaned. “I knew what I was getting into when you told me about your other life and who you really were. I was willing to keep your secret and protect it. I just never thought about how hard it would be keeping it from my family.”
She shook her head. “They think you’re not committed or something. And that…that you’re probably cheating on me.”
The idea of him ever doing that her made Jason sick to his stomach.
“I’m sorry,” Jason mumbled.
“What?” Y/N gasped. “You haven’t done anything wrong.”
“But I have,” he argued. “I put you in this position.”
“No, I did. I did when I fell in love with you,” she clarified.
“But I don’t want you lying to the people you love.”
“I’m not telling you this because I’m mad at you or blame you, Jason. I’m trying to tell you why I’m frustrated.”
She rubbed her face. “I just want them to know what an amazing person you are...and how brave and selfless. How you take care of me and love me and…and protect me.” Her eyes began to water. “They’re never gonna know the real you…even when they do meet you. And I fucking hate it.”
“So what if you told them?” Jason offered.
Her eyes widened at that. “Jason…”
“I’m serious. What if you told them?”
She thought about it. But she already knew the answer.
“It wouldn’t do any good. If I told them, then they’d be worried about me. Worried that your other life was putting me in danger. Worried that I would get pulled into it.”
Jason knew she was right.
Her family probably preferred an absentee boyfriend over a vigilante.
“But I see how the shitty men that have joined my family are. And you’re nothing like them. You’re so much better. And they’ll never even know.”
“Come here,” Jason muttered before he pulled her to him.
He let her body sink into his as he held her.
“I’ll do anything you want,” he whispered as he rubbed her back. “I just want you to be happy.”
“I always wondered what it would be like to finally been in a relationship – to just have someone on my team no matter what. I went to all those family gatherings thinking I’d never have it. And once I did, once I found you…” Her thoughts died out. “I just never expected it to be this way.”
“Do you regret it?” Jason asked as he pulled away to look in her eyes.
Her brow furrowed. “Regret what?”
“Being with me. Falling in love with me.”
Her heart broke at the question. “Oh, Jason. Of course not. Never.”
“What if I stopped?” He asked.
“No. I would never ask that of you,” she quickly shot down.
“I’d do it for you,” he tried to argue.
“I know you would. But I’m not asking. Because I know what it would do to you. Every time you’d see something in the news, you’d hate yourself. Because you would convince yourself that you could’ve stopped it. And maybe you would be right.” She took in a deep breath. “Red Hood isn’t just something you do. He’s a part of you. And even though I worry about you constantly, I’m never gonna tell you to stop.”
Jason took his time in reading her face.
“OK?” She pushed.
He nodded.
Then he embraced her once again.
“I’m sorry you have to keep my secrets,” he breathed into her hair.
————————————
Y/N walked into Jason’s apartment.
It was a Friday night and they agreed to have her come to his place this weekend.
Jason was always weary of her coming to Gotham, preferring her to stay in the safety of Metropolis.
He knew they couldn’t do the distance forever, and eventually they’d move into together. But he wasn’t ready to leave Gotham yet. And he didn’t want Y/N to lowering herself to such a city.
“J!” Y/N called when she walked in.
He had given her keys to his apartment quite early in their relationship, and told her she was welcome at his place any time. However, he wasn’t a fan of her getting there after dark. Gotham was Gotham, and he didn’t like her wandering around the city by herself just in order to give him a surprise visit.
An envelope on Jason’s kitchen counter caught her attention.
She nosily looked at it and saw that they were plane tickets to her hometown with both of their names on each of them.
She heard Jason walk up behind her. “What’s this?”
“A surprise,” he shrugged.
“What do you mean?” She laughed.
“We’re gonna visit your family,” he explained casually. “I called your mom and sister to find a weekend that worked.”
Y/N was shocked to silence.
“I know I fucked up when I couldn’t go with you during the holidays. I know this isn’t gonna solve everything. But I figured…it’s start.” Before he could say more, Y/N threw her arms around him.
————
Jason Todd knew how to throw on the charm. And no matter how thick he laid it on, it always felt sincere.
Y/N smiled as she watched her boyfriend interacting with her family.
He knew so much about each of them already, that he knew exactly what to talk about with every one of them.
For their long-weekend visit, they had decided to stay with her sister.
Jason knew she would be the hardest to win over and was the most protective over Y/N. He made it his personal mission to befriend her and show her how much he loved her little sister.
Y/N never said so, but Jason knew how important it was to her that Kate approved of him.
However, Jason hadn’t been able to have a conversation alone with her all weekend.
Until their last morning there.
Y/N was still sleeping when Jason had made his way to the kitchen.
He figured he could make Kate and her husband breakfast after housing them for a long weekend. And he made sure to start a pot of coffee while he was at it.
Halfway through making his specialty waffles, Kate walked into the kitchen rubbing her eyes.
“Oh, hi,” she greeted, clearly surprised to find Jason cooking in her kitchen.
“Morning,” Jason greeted.
“This is a surprise,” she said as she looked around the kitchen.
“There’s coffee if you want some.”
“T-Thanks…” she managed to mutter. “Do you need some help?”
“Nope. I got it. You just relax.”
Kate seemed to be unsure of how to behave when she was alone with her little sister’s boyfriend, and eventually sat on the kitchen stool with her coffee.
“Do you cook a lot?” She finally broke the silence with her question.
“I enjoy it,” he answered with a shrug. “I figured it’s the least I can do for you guys putting us up.”
“That’s very sweet of you, Jason.”
He continued cooking.
Kate figured this was her opportunity to get to know Jason – and not just through Y/N’s eyes. So, she started asking him question after question, and he seemed happy to answer them. Kate was surprised to find out about Jason’s traumatic childhood, making him realize that Y/N must’ve only shared his relation to Bruce Wayne and nothing more about his life before becoming an adopted Wayne.
Jason wasn’t surprised Y/N kept that part of his life to herself. She was protective of him that way. She always felt like his past was his story to tell, not hers.
“I know missing the holidays didn’t leave the best impression,” Jason told her after they’d been talking for awhile.
“You really mean a lot to Y/N. And your opinion matters more to her than you might think,” he added as he crossed his arms.
Kate seemed a little taken aback by how unafraid he was of confrontation.
He seemed more mature for his age – maybe for hers, even.
“I know I’m not going to win any of you over from just a single trip,” Jason continued. “But I’m going to work my ass off to make sure I get there.”
Kate smiled at that.
“I love her,” he told her quietly, but with determination. “She’s…Well, she’s the best thing to ever happen to me.”
Then he smirked. “And I’m not dumb enough to do anything to fuck things up with her.”
He took in a shallow breath. “I just…I just needed you to know that.”
Kate’s heart swelled from hearing her little sister’s boyfriend confessing his love for Y/N.
“Thank you for telling me that,” she whispered, trying to stop herself from crying. “I worry about her. And I hate that she’s so far away sometimes. I miss her.”
“She misses you, too,” Jason assured her.
“Thank you for taking care of her. I’m suddenly realizing you’re the only reason she’s eating anything that’s not out of a takeout container.”
Jason laughed. “I plead the fifth.”
Before any more could be said, Y/N walked into the kitchen as if she was sleep walking.
“Well, look who it is…” Jason teased.
Y/N walked to him silently, clearly wanting cuddles.
Jason chuckled at her, but gave her what she wanted. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. He had kept the PDA at an absolute minimum while he had been around Y/N’s family. But he couldn’t help it when Y/N was her sleepy and adorable self.
“You sleep OK?” He tried to whisper to her.
But Kate still heard it and pretended to look down at her phone.
Y/N nodded into his neck, making him chuckle at her more.
This was new for Kate, seeing her sister being loved and loving someone. Her instinct was to say it made her uncomfortable. But it was just something she wasn’t used to.
Soon Kate’s husband woke up and they all ate breakfast together.
And a few hours later, Y/N and Jason were packed and their was a Lyft was waiting outside to take them to the airport.
Jason hugged Kate and her husband and thanked them for hosting them. Then he grabbed Y/N’s bags and gave her a moment alone with her sister as he took their stuff to the car.
“I think I owe the two of you an apology…” Kate told her little sister.
“You do?”
“I think I judged him a bit too much before really giving him a chance.”
Y/N winced, but nodded. “Yeah, you did, actually.”
“He really loves you.”
Y/N smiled. “He does.”
“I just want you to be happy, you know that right?”
“I know. But sometimes you think that what makes you happy is what would make me happy. Our lives are different. And we want different things. Just because my relationship looks different than yours doesn’t mean it’s worse in some way.”
Kate nodded sadly, knowing her sister was right. “I get that now.”
-----------
A/N: I was inspired to write this when I thought about how my own family would react to me having a boyfriend like Jason Todd: a man who was secretly a vigilante and had a past too hard for anyone to ever imagine. Hopefully, other people can relate to this and it wasn’t too personal. 😬
Let me know what you thought!!!

i compiled a bunch of direct quotes about pink diamond/rose quartz from the newest artbook, end of an era. some of these quotes are taken from charts and scribbled notes, so the sentence structure might be weird.
let me know if there are any typos/missing information you think i could add!
quotes from rebecca sugar: on pink diamond/rose quartz
Pink Diamond is so sure that she’s powerless, but she’s actually profoundly powerful, so much so that she devastates people’s lives without understanding it because she thinks that she has no real power or sway.
The thing that she really lacks is balance, any ability to temper her extremes. This is part of her character throughout her forms: she’s always very extreme.
Pink fits into those older tropes, too: the restless princess, the little Winsor McCay clown.
Pink is pure want. Impulse, desire—she’s infectious. She is the flip side of White; she can bring out a Gem’s hidden personality—their deepest wants. This isn’t necessarily a Diamond power (she has a handful of Diamond powers both destructive and constructive), but she has this power in a very human sense. She is an enabler and very manipulative when it comes to getting what she wants, so when what she wants is to get closer to someone, her intensity, and her sincerity, opens them up and draws them in.
White and Pink were always clashing. The Diamond body repressed Pink’s wants, as directed by White, the self-critical conscience. Pink’s shield made it impossible for White to override Pink’s identity, so she had to find other ways to repress her.
Episodes like Bismuth make much more sense when you know that Rose is Pink, and even more sense when you understand how poorly Pink treated friends who became inconvenient.
Rose is tracked carefully through the entire show. She makes sense once you know she is her own worst enemy. She dreams, achingly, that she could become compassionate, because she’s sure she’s incapable of compassion. Her lack of respect for herself makes it impossible for her to respect everyone closest to her. She reveres them instead, because they are better than she could ever be, and that reverence is so honest and intoxicating that it draws everyone closer to her, without them understanding the deep self-hatred that pull is coming from.
She couldn’t stand herself; self-destruction is a huge theme throughout the show—the struggle of the feeling that you shouldn’t exist, and what that can do to a person. A lot of the themes of the show exist within Rose, like her inability to be honest with other people or herself about what she’s done. She’s so deeply ashamed of herself and her past, with very good reason. The truth is that the people in her life would be so much more understanding than she believes they will be. The contempt that she has for herself gets turned outward as contempt for other people when she can’t trust them. When she can’t trust herself, she can’t trust other people, and it makes it impossible for her to be close with anyone. It makes life extremely difficult for her. It makes living difficult for her.
Rose wants [honesty and trust and being able to grow and change] so badly, but she can’t really accomplish any of that until she accepts herself—and she never does.
quotes from rebecca sugar: on rose and greg
Rose and Greg have a very specific relationship. They parallel each other: Greg left his unsupportive family to follow his dreams. He changes his name and begins living as his stage persona...He invents himself.
Rose is instantly interested in Greg; he’s so human, sweet and funny and pliable. But as they get a little deeper into their relationship, Greg starts to realize how alien she actually is. She objectifies him, she laughs at him...she can’t seem to relate to him or pick up on how he’s feeling. They have a physical relationship, but they’ve never had a meaningful conversation. He starts to feel used. So he challenges her in a way she’s never been challenged before: he asks her to treat him like an equal. This is huge for her. She’s always been less than the other Diamonds and more than everyone else. She opens up to him in a real way, and over time she’s ready to confess everything to him. But he understands what it is to run away from home and reinvent yourself. He doesn’t need her old name and he’s not going to drag her through whatever it was she ran from; as far as he’s concerned, her old self isn’t the real her anyway. The real her is her in the present, the person she decided to be. [...] This is an incredible relief for her! With him, she can live authentically in the moment...They both can, but on the flip side, they enable each other. She never unpacks what scares her about her past, and neither does he.
They really wanted to have a child [...] It’s something they are genuinely excited about. And that’s something that’s left a little open-ended—just how selfish it was for Rose to do this knowing that she would disappear. What Rose is doing is outrageously selfless and outrageously selfish at the same time, and you can really read it both ways and neither is untrue.
chart notes: on pink diamond/rose quartz
Pink learns to keep secrets. She tells her new Pearl to keep them too. (She puts on an act. Behaves better.) She doesn’t trust herself...keeps asking her Pearl what to do...
The Game: Rose plays Batman on the ground. (Pearl is Robin and Alfred.) Pink tries to use Rose as an excuse to call off the invasion. This backfires when Blue and Yellow send in reinforcements.
Rose finds herself the head of a family. Determined to be everything White was not—she is close with everyone, flexible in everything. Love & fun are the rule—and there are no rules—and everyone is the most special!
chart notes: on rose and the crystal gems
Pink keeps asking Pearl what she thinks. Pearl understands she should have no opinions, and should follow orders. She is caught in a paradox. Her head swims. She laughs—feels scared—what is this?
Pearl is falling in love. Pink, as Rose, is intoxicating. She’s free somehow. They both are, when they’re on Earth.
Rose falls in love with Pearl’s surprising boldness that comes out of left field—!
Pearl and Rose start fusing a lot.
Pearl and Rose—the dust clears, revealing an endless honeymoon. Pink is gone and Pearl is free—free to love Rose.
Garnet trusts Rose, respects her secrets. She sees in Rose a self-made gem, a quartz that transcended her station out of sheer will and the power of self-love. Garnet loves Rose and her mystery, the way she learns to love & embrace the mystery of herself. Rose is her rock and inspiration.
Rose teaches Amethyst: you can be anything you want to be! Huge advocate of shapeshifting, self-expression, anarchy—however, Amethyst can sense shame from Rose and Pearl over the Kindergarten.
chart notes: on rose and the crystal gems, post-pink diamond reveal
Amethyst finally understands Rose: wanting her to shapeshift, not feel obligated to be a quartz, suddenly feels sympathy...kinship. It wasn’t Amethyst being inspired by Rose—Rose was inspired by them!
Garnet shocked: Rose taught her to love herself. If that was a lie—if Pink Diamond was self-hating, and wanted to disappear—than what does that mean for Garnet? No—it wasn’t Garnet being inspired by Rose—Rose was inspired by them!
Pearl is finally released—but, a rift—! Garnet feels betrayed! But, Pink did change! Pink did grow! Rose was different! That’s why Pearl was inspired by Rose—or, wait—Rose was inspired by them!
chart notes: on pink and the other diamonds
Pink, the littlest diamond, is largely ignored by Yellow, Blue, and White. Her silly impulses and eccentricities are not particularly helpful to the other diamonds in their endeavors. No one wants to play with her. Pink desperately wants White’s attention and approval (she will never get it).
Pink’s [original] Pearl is the only one who sees how much this upsets Pink. Pink is bright in front of Yellow, Blue, White—but when they don’t have time for her, she privately takes it hard.
Noticing Pink’s behavior, Yellow and Blue think she should have her own colony. White insists—she hasn’t really changed. She’ll never change. She gives Pink a colony—if only to prove Pink will fail.
White knows Pink is out there. This expensive, embarrassing tantrum is not worth her attention. Pink will come groveling back when she’s done running away from home.
Yellow and Blue are relieved to have Pink back—but White is vindicated. I knew you’d be back, your silly game is over—get back in place.
Steven gets Yellow and Blue to understand who he is now. But White won’t have it [...] In an ultimate act of self love, Steven fuses with himself, as White realizes—she can be wrong, and she’s truly lost her ‘daughter’.
