Our 2024 Summary of Summits!

14. May - 667m. Our regular starting summit every year.

8. June - 978m. Dogless, but still worth it for one of my favourite summits.

19. July - 947m. Came back home after 5 hours without service to find the world in chaos (Crowdstrike incident)

27. December - 667m. The latest in the year we've ever done this summit.

And an honorable mention to the two summits I DNF'd this year. Both on my to-do list, and both the only summits I attempted this year that would have been new to me.

3. August - 1318m. And 14. September - 1326m. One DNF due to weather. the other because I got sick and had to turn back two hours in. Massive bummer but we'll try again next summer.

Do you remember the post I made months ago where I was yearning to get one of my friends to go with me to this fire lookout I found? And I said maybe in October?

Well I didn't manage to get to the fire lookout trail because it's too far out of the way of where we're going, but I did manage to secure the second best thing, which is "invited on a camping trip in October" so I'm quite happy!

So I'm an area director at a summer camp, but yesterday my boss called me and asked if I'd be down to be the director of two areas and I said yes without thinking about the consequences. So now I'm the director of two areas? That means two groups of staff to train and lead, two sets of lesson plans, two areas to teach at and make the schedule for and make the lesson plans for, two physical areas to set up. They're right next to each other, but this is going to be fucking insane

every now and then I remember the time I was close to being hit by a car whilst my sister and I were on our journey to buy our goldfish (a longer story than you'd think), and I laugh

to be fair we were laughing immediately after the fact too 😭 but it's like.. we were crossing the street (the cross sign was on) and I looked down at the ground for one second and suddenly my sister tightened their grasp on me and pulled me back a bit. and I looked up and saw a truck that had started turning but stopped. and the driver and I just made eye contact and we were both like 😦 cause we hadn't seen each other 😭

Man I know it's simply the state of the world as a deeply complex place but it makes me so frustrated that some of the issues that are important to me are literally contradictory?? Like I think we should be using low carbon no plastic fabrics created by workers paid properly, an obvious answer to which is wool and more sheep farming, but also I deeply care about rewilding the ecosystems in my country that have been decimated by sheep farming which means,,, less sheep. I do not know how to do both, in an ideal world. Which is probably why it's a good thing I'm not a politician I do not know what to do about anything

(CONTEXT: The "vampire gang" is a young vampire girl and 4 (now only 3) vampire kids that my players befriended and brought into the current city, then the players left for a few months, during which Nillan found them and helped them in the background.)
