Friendly Reminder

I do not need to be validated by others nor do i need to like parts of myself that i do not feel aligned with. I am allowed to be imperfect, to make mistakes and learn from them at my own time frame. I am allowed to not be delusional, and see my flaws as they are: flaws. Everyone has them, and i decided i do not need to integrate them into my personality. That gives me the fire to work on achieving to become my own best version, wouldn't say idalized version of me, cause i do not believe in such terms. I believe there is a maximum level of success i can attempt to achieve, and i am onna make that success! But not because i am ignoring my flaws: rather than because i am acknowledging where i need fixations. Today's woke society does not really want this from you. The victim mindset these mantras put you into makes you feel lesser than what you are.

We are sharing this photo today, because firstly, how adorably cute is @beerbarbelle in our OG “Free to Choose what beer I’ll drink” tank top?! ... but secondly, because she is employed in our beloved and struggling beer industry. Our hearts are with her, and all those in the service industry, trying to slowly welcome us back into their breweries and restaurants. It would be so nice, if as we venture back out to public places, that we are mindful of all that they are having to implement for our safety. The stress involved with following the laws put in place, to extremely limit their capacity, and being fearful of frustrating customers. Now is not the time to go on YELP and vent! This really hits home for we women who have worked in entertainment for the past 25 years, being told and then choosing to believe we’re too old, too fat, too smart, too stupid, too ethnic-looking, too unremarkable, too curvy, too flat, too ugly, too plain, too garish, too unlikeable, too much, too little, too untalented, too serious, too independent, too opinionated, too emotional, too cold, too unsellable, too outspoken, “too, too, too”, from an emotionally abusive, misogynistic industry that sells everything women are, all while utterly fearing and deeply resenting/hating the power they have to “sell”, at the same time. . I honestly can’t believe I bought into ANY of that crap when I was a kid. Yet that’s why the music industry signs girl children—they’re still seeking approval. I work every day to forgive myself for participating in the self-deprecating and negative self-evaluation process that I actually convinced myself was not only “normal”, but “necessary” to “succeed”, while working in Old World music and TV. . Worshipping the abuser—Stockholm Syndrome at its worst. . To All Of Our Followers, Emily here. I know that there are some that disagree with the decision that Haley and I made and that is just fine. At the end of the day, we just didn't feel like we could continue being vocal supporters of BOTM when we knew that there were actions being taken that we felt were harmful. Please understand that it is not the lack of diversity in selections that was the final straw, it was the actual treatment of @thestackspod, a Black woman who had been a contributor previously. This is bigger than a company learning and making mistakes, it is racism. We are glad they have apologized, but at this point in our lives Haley and I both feel like we would rather err on the side of ensuring that we are being as inclusive and affirming as possible to our Black readers and friends. We are all here because we love books, but we absolutely love people more. If Traci decides to accept the apology, then we will take our cues from her.
