Today I have a rose for you that I grew in my previous garden in San Diego: William Shakespeare 2000. This gem was once very hyped by David Austin Roses as one of their most beautiful red roses and I agree, but only about a decade later it almost seems to be forgotten, a faith that sadly happens to many wonderful roses. In my opinion William Shakespeare 2000 deserves its place in the gardens of the world. The beauty of his large, velvety, crimson red (their color is a little darker than my camera was able to capture), very full, cupped, quartered blooms speaks for itself. On top of that, they also come with a lovely strong old rose fragrance. Do you remember William Shakespeare 2000? Do you grow one of these forgotten roses in your garden? A rose that is now rare or maybe even out of commerce? Please share, so that we all can rediscover and get reminded of these rose jewels that got thrown out of the limelight in the course of time. Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux, a pink blend Tea Rose bred by Fortes, 1908, was my most favorite rose of this group that I grew in my old garden in San Diego, where this photo was taken. I absolutely adored the very full globular bloom form and the variations in the pink coloration. This rose was very floriferous, bloomed in flushes throughout the season, and had a light typical tea rose scent. In my opinion Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux is very underrated, in the rose world so I thought I would post a photo of this beauty today. I feel in general the whole class of Tea Roses is a bit overlooked even though they can be wonderful roses for warm climates. I am not growing any Tea Roses in my garden here in Austin, yet, but I would like to try and see how they perform in this climate. I will start with Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux and hope to add him to my garden this year. I am curious to hear if some you are growing any Tea Roses in your garden. And if so, could you please share which varieties and how they fair? I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!
