A moment of rose happiness in my garden! It is rare that I get a rose as perfect and beautiful as this here in my climate. Also look at the healthy foliage! It seems that in November the stars lined up and my organically grown roses are happy and heathy! I take it! The rose variety pictured is ‘Souvenir de la Malmaison’, a Bourbon Rose. She is one of my healthiest and strongest growing roses and overall she seems to tolerate our challenging climate relatively well. If you are in for growing a rose here in my climate zone, I would recommend this one! On an another note, I would like to thank everyone who left a comment on my last post where I wrote about the first anniversary of the day of the death of my mom. I was so touched by all your kind and comforting responses and also by your experiences with the death of your own mothers. Thank you so much for sharing! I have not gotten individually back to many of you, because it was an emotionally very challenging day for me and I needed a bit of time to recover, but I will! Much love to all of you, Christina. #organicgardendreams #rose #roses #pink #souvenirdelamalmaison #souvenirdelamalmaisonrose #rosa #rosasouvenirdelamalmaison #inmygarden #inmygardentoday #organicgardening #organicroses #organicrosegrower #organicrosegardener #flowerphotography #pinkrose #rosesofinstagram #rosesoftheday #roselover #roselovers #austingardener #rosegardener #fortheloveofroses #instaroses #bourbonrose #bloom #flower #centraltexasgardener #autumn #autumninmygarden (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWA-NWALXWZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

‘The Prince’, one of the darkest burgundy red roses that I have ever grown. Not only is the color and bloom form fantastic but it has a strong old rose fragrance that matches its appearance. The rose was bred by David Austin, 1990. I think this rose is one of his best creations in this color range to this day. ‘The Prince’ had some flaws in my previous organic garden in San Diego. He was a stingy bloomer and was quite susceptible to powdery mildew. But when he was good then he was phenomenal. Overall I would say that he liked the Southern California climate. Because of the much more unforgiving climate conditions here in Austin I wouldn’t even attempt to grow this roses here, but I have to admit that I really miss him! Is there a specific rose that you love, but can’t grow in the climate where you live? Wishing you all a beautiful Monday! The photo was taken in my previous garden in San Diego. #organicgardendreams #rose #roses #theprince #theprincerose #davidaustinrose #davidaustinroses #davidaustin #redrose #burgundyrose #red #burgundy #organicgardening #organicrosegardening #organicroses #bloom #flower #rosesofinstagram #fortheloveofroses #cottagegarden #rosegarden #englishroses #rosegardener #roselover #roselovers #roseloversofinstagram #redroses #flowerlover #shabbychic (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVK6UXFg66L/?utm_medium=tumblr

Come and meet ‘Bolero’, a rose bred by Jacques Mouchotte in France before 2003, that was introduced in the United States by Star Roses in 2004. So this rose is around for a while. Mine is growing in my Austin garden since about a year and it has been struggling ever since. But it had a tough life so far! Twice when I was traveling it got dried out so much that its canes turned brown. The arctic freeze in February this year reduced it to a two cane wonder and even now it is under two feet tall. But it is trying! It has produced six tiny blooms in the brutal Texas heat of August after I fertilized it with organic rose fertilizer a few weeks back and water it regularly. Its current flowers are under two inch in size. But who cares that they are small. They are beautiful! I am certainly not giving up on this rose but quite the opposite I will give it the best possible loving care that I am able to and maybe, just maybe, I will get one more flush in autumn that has the deliciously delicate hues of apricot and soft yellow in the center of the blooms, that I have seen in photos, that this rose is able to produce in cooler weather. Let’s keep the fingers crossed! Wishing you all a happy weekend and happy gardening! #organicgardendreams #organic #organicgardening #rose #roses #bolero #bolerorose #white #whiterose #rosebolero #romantic #romanticrose #rosesofinstagram #roseslover #inmygarden #inmygardentoday #fortheloveofgardening #fortheloveofroses #instagramroses #gardening #gardeninglife #rosesinthegarden #rosephotography #organicrosegardening #roseconnoisseur #flowers #blooms #cottagegarden https://www.instagram.com/p/CS2MpR9r1uM/?utm_medium=tumblr

Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux, a pink blend Tea Rose bred by Fortes, 1908, was my most favorite rose of this group that I grew in my old garden in San Diego, where this photo was taken. I absolutely adored the very full globular bloom form and the variations in the pink coloration. This rose was very floriferous, bloomed in flushes throughout the season, and had a light typical tea rose scent. In my opinion Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux is very underrated, in the rose world so I thought I would post a photo of this beauty today. I feel in general the whole class of Tea Roses is a bit overlooked even though they can be wonderful roses for warm climates. I am not growing any Tea Roses in my garden here in Austin, yet, but I would like to try and see how they perform in this climate. I will start with Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux and hope to add him to my garden this year. I am curious to hear if some you are growing any Tea Roses in your garden. And if so, could you please share which varieties and how they fair? I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! I will take the covers of my roses today and hope that they came through the cold snap without too much dieback. Fingers crossed! #organicgardendreams #rhodologuejulesgravereaux #tearose #tearoses #rose #roses #pinkrose #pinkroses #beautifulrose #beautifulroses #rosesofinstagram #instaroses #roselovers #roselover #fortheloveofroses #rosephotography #roseconnoisseur #fortheloveofroses #rosebloom #roseflower #pink #gardening #rosegardening #flower #flowers #bloom #blooms #austingardener #centraltexasgardener #organicrosegarden (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZwnfsOOvop/?utm_medium=tumblr
