thinking about beauregard lionett again (when am i not?)
specifically i am thinking about tj like. what are they like once he's older? she is kinda responsible for getting his (their) father locked up. he is the child they replaced her with. that's not... really the most conflict-free of setups
like don't get me wrong i love the fics where they reunite and beau gets to be a part of his life in a lovely way. i'm just... thinking.
like. you can love someone intensely but you still gotta figure it all out and. how does beau learn to be around him, when he's a reminder of everything she wasn't? does TJ see thoreau as he grows up, and if he doesn't, how does he act when he learns she's the expositor who landed him in prison? if he does spend time with thoreau (even if he and clara separate), how does thoreau's input colour his opinion of beau? how does beau reconcile that they were probably treated pretty differently – maybe not better or worse, but certainly different – by their parents, and how does that feel?
idk i'm just thinking about Them. maybe i need to write this.

10 minutes later, after attempts to contact Jester inevitably fail:
Beau, cross-legged on the floor, seething: “I’m gonna kill him. He’s not going to even have the chance to go on his date because he’s gonna be dead.”
Yasha, massaging her shoulders: “Well, maybe we let him go on his date before we kill him. I think it’ll be good for him.”
And then the next day after dinner, when Beau has slept on it and has eaten Yasha’s delicious stir-fry, she messages Caleb again:
“Congratulations, by the way. Happy for you two. Hope the date went well.”
“Would you like to answer or shall I?” she heard Caleb say. There was a brief pause, and then a new voice came through the Sending Stone.
“It went very well, Beauregard. Thank you for asking,” Essek said. “How was your dinner?”
“So good, dude. Have you told Jester yet?”
Essek sighed. “Yes, and I received no fewer than five Sendings that were just squealing.”
Update: now on AO3!
Beau had half a mind to march over to the Candles and kill Ludinus Da’leth herself, if only so she didn’t have to spend another day looking over the same documents, trying to find something they could use to get him out of power. She didn’t trust him—hadn’t from the start—but the more she walked in similar circles, the more she had to deal with the Assembly’s bullshit, the more she was convinced that whatever Ludinus was up to at any given moment, it couldn’t be good. But he had spent centuries navigating Dwendalian politics; of course he knew how to cover his tracks well.
She was halfway through plotting out the assassination when Caleb, who was sitting at the desk across from her, closed his book and looked up at her. “It’s five o’clock,” he said.
“Finally.” Beau sagged in her chair, taking in a deep breath. As she exhaled, she let thoughts of work fade from her mind. Once she felt suitably non-murderous, she slapped her hands onto her desk and stood. “Let’s get going then.”
She and Caleb fell into their routine as easily as they fought side-by-side. Caleb collected all the files and documents and organized them as he saw fit, while Beau stacked the books in the order that she knew would be most convenient for whoever reshelved them. Then they switched. Beau ran the papers back to her tiny office and locked them in her desk drawer, and Caleb passed off the books to the nearest archivist to be put away. When they met back up, Caleb walked Beau all the way to the teleportation circle on the other side of the Archive. Outside of going home to Yasha, this was Beau’s favorite part of the day, because regardless of what they ended up talking about, they made sure that, for at least these fifteen minutes, neither of them had to think about their country’s corrupt systems and the horrible people running them.
By the time they arrived at the teleportation circle, her half thought-out plans of murdering the Martinet had been shoved into the back of her mind by Caleb’s fond tales of the kids he tutored and the progress they were making.
She really hoped he would take the Soltryce job, if not for the good he would do there, at least for himself. He seemed so happy when he talked about teaching, almost as much as when he was nerding out about spells with Essek or Veth.
The caster in charge of the circle beckoned Beau into the center of the room, and she jogged into position as they began drawing the sigils for the Zadash Archive circle.
“Hey, so tomorrow night, Yasha’s trying out a new recipe that she got from Martina,” Beau said, turning to face Caleb who lingered at the edge of the casting space. “It’s a stir-fry sorta thing that she learned on a trip to the Menagerie Coast. I think it’ll be really good, especially if we use some of your green beans. You down?”
The invitation was more of a formality at this point. Caleb joined them for dinner almost every weekend. But Caleb shifted awkwardly, looking down at his feet.
“Ah, I would love to,” he said, “but I already have plans for tomorrow. Maybe another night.”
“Eating a boba and reading all night doesn’t count as dinner plans.”
Caleb huffed a laugh. “No, it is a, um…” He picked at some fuzz on his coat sleeve. “A date.”
“Wha—” Beau blinked. Shook her head and blinked again. “What? With who?”
Caleb caught her gaze, expression completely neutral except for a growing redness on his face. “A friend,” he said.
She furrowed her brow. “I’m gonna need a little more information than that, dude.”
He glanced down at the runes being drawn beneath her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him run his thumb over the ring on his index finger—his Ring of Telepathy, it looked like—and his voice entered her mind.
“Essek.”
Beau’s eyes widened, but then the bastard smiled and waved like nothing happened. “Have a nice evening, Beauregard.”
Faster than she could run over and punch that smug look off his face, the chalk on the floor flashed and suddenly she was back at the Zadash Archive.
She fumbled for her Sending Stone. “Fucking piece of shit—I’m gonna—” She yanked it out of her pocket and activated it. “Caleb!” she shouted. Some poor young monk tried to greet her while an older expositor threw a stern expression her way, but Beau paid them no mind. She was already running out the door.
“The fuck kinda timing was that? What do you mean you’re going on a date with—” Shit, she couldn’t use Essek’s name in the middle of Zadash. “—with him? When did this happen? How? Who else knows?”
“You are the first, unless someone else has figured it out already,” he replied. “Unfortunately Sending is limited to twenty-five words, so I cannot say more. Goodnight, Beauregard.”
“I know for a fact that’s not how these Sending Stones work, you asshole!” She did a quick count of Caleb’s message in her head. Twenty-six words.
She could practically hear his shit-eating grin in the silence that followed.
Forget Ludinus, she had another wizard to kill.
Before long, Beau was sprinting up to her house. She waved off Martina’s sickeningly sweet hello and threw open her front door.
“Yasha!” she yelled. “Babe, you’re not gonna believe what Caleb just told me. Can you message Jester today?”

Campaign 2 episode 92/Campaign 3 episode 92 parallels (with some assistance from 3x89)
Transcription of the text in the above images (screenshots from the Critical Role Transcript Search) below the cut:
The following is excerpts from Campaign 2, Episode 92, and Campaign 3 Episode 92 (except one from 89, noted below), interspersed. Travis is playing Fjord, Marisha is playing Beau, Laura is playing Imogen, Liam is playing Orym, and Matt plays Thoreau Lionett in the Campaign 2 excerpt and Liliana Temult in the Campaign 3 excerpt:
First image:
TRAVIS: Your histamine reactions are going again.
MARISHA: Yeah. I've been away from Zadash for a little bit, so the pollen, it's kicking a little, you know?
TRAVIS: I take it you don't fully, fully hate your dad. It's got to be hard to hear this.
Second image:
LAURA: I'm going to heard toward Orym who's at a distance and approach slowly.
LIAM: Hey.
LAURA: Hi. I'm going to put my hand on your shoulder.
LIAM: Sorry, I know how hard all that is for you.
Third image:
MARISHA: Everyone wants to make their dad proud, you know? Just hoping he could, he could show some of that.
TRAVIS: You don't know that he can't. It's been years. You've grown, you've changed. I'm sure you were even more of an unbearable shit before. I'm not saying he deserves a second chance, but he is your father, and you do have a mother, and a brother that you've never met.
MARISHA: (sniffs) I guess it's hard when... the word inevitable has been brought up several times in the past 24 hours amongst us. I feel like I've found my family with The Mighty Nein. I don't like looking at my past, because it doesn't have The Mighty Nein in it, and I think I put off the inevitable, because I'm going to-- I'm afraid it's going to be like my past.
Fourth image:
LAURA: Don't apologize. I can't begin to understand how hard it is for you.
LIAM: You know, every one of us makes our decisions with the lenses or prisms we see life through.
LAURA: Mm-hmm.
LIAM: I can't take mine down. (sobs softly) It's not even about revenge for me. (sniffles) I just try and honor what they sign up to do. (sniffles) I just try and honor what they sign up to do.
LAURA: I didn't know them, but I can't imagine they wouldn't look at you and not be proud.
LIAM: (sighs sadly)
LAURA: I think you've gone farther than anyone could ever expect you to, and you're still going.
Fifth image:
TRAVIS: I don't think one contaminates the other. You've got good, solid footing here. I mean, shit, if we want to run, we run. If we want to kick his ass, we'll kick his ass.
MARISHA: Yeah. (sniffing) I kind of want to kick his ass, and I don't want to run.
TRAVIS: Could I ask you, in your wildest dreams, and feel free to say you don't want to tell me, what would you have happen when we go there?
MARISHA: I think I've worked so hard because I scripted this day, in my inevitable future that I would go back to him, successful woman, respectable member of society, Cobalt Soul, an Expositor, the thing he threw me away to, and I embraced. And then, I would get mad at myself, because I felt like I was doing exactly what he was doing to me my entire life, scripting me to be something else. And I'm still doing it. I haven't seen him in three years, and I'm still trying to be... something. And I think what's scary is that I like this, and what I've found, and I don't think it was until Nott started talking about having to go home and go away that it truly started terrifying me. Because for the first time, I'm happy. And what if that goes away?
Sixth image:
LIAM: (sighs softly) (sniffles) So far. I'm going to miss him.
LAURA: Yeah. Yeah.
LIAM: I'm going to miss Letters.
(sniffles)
LAURA: They were-- They were alive.
LIAM: Out of any of us, he just wanted to help.
Seventh image:
TRAVIS: It could always go away. It could go away tonight. The Gentleman's debtors could come calling.
MARISHA: (chuckling) And I think I know that, and I think I say things to Nott like, "You don't have to put those stipulations on yourself" because I've convinced myself that destiny or the inevitability won't come knocking. If you ignore it, it won't exist, and that's not true.
TRAVIS: (sighs) It'll be interesting either way. Your face is leaking.
MARISHA: I hate it.
TRAVIS: I won't tell anyone.
MARISHA: Don't tell anybody.
TRAVIS: Yep. You're a good friend. You're a good trainer.
Eighth image:
LAURA: I want you to know that that for a while it may have felt that you and I were not seeing eye to eye or maybe you felt that I, I didn't have the same goal in mind that you did. But don't worry about that anymore, all right?
LIAM: I understand family.
LAURA: Yeah. Yeah.
LIAM: I want for all the world for you to have your family.
LAURA: I wanted that, too, and (chuckles) god, that back and forth is a pretty funny thing, but choices were made. If nothing else, then at least we've got a little bit of knowledge on the inside now.
LIAM: Yeah. As much we'd like to, you can't turn back the clock.
LAURA: That's right. But you've got us.
Bonus image 1:
MARISHA: Mom already fucking mentioned that life gets difficult and it's hard. So you're right. Maybe it's easy to justify the easy way out, just get rid of the problem.
MATT: "That's not what this was about. You were on the self-destructive path. We didn't know what to do. I've never been a-- no one teaches you how to be a good father. I regret choices I've made, and you don't think I don't hold myself responsible for-- I thought I was doing what was best for you, truly."
MARISHA: You did. It was probably the best thing you could've done for me. So thank you. Tell me the story again, and then I'll go.
Bonus image 2 (from 3x89):
MATT: "History is filled with evil men. But few have the courage to stand up and try and stop them. Where I'm standing, I don't think we're on the opposing sides like you think we are. We just have a different myth, that's all. That's all. Please see it in yourself to understand why I've done and given up all of this."
LAURA: Maybe it's your turn to run. And I wake up.

This week, we have nine fics dealing with Grief or Mourning -dealing with the losses in the recent episodes of Critical Role, older losses, and imagined losses still in these character's futures. Check them out beneath the cut, and remember to comment and kudos if you like them!
divorce the first by Ink_Beneath_Her_Fingernails (3496,Not Rated) Warnings: Brief mentions of Molly's death, but it's not a focus. Pairings:
Common is the only language all of the Nein share, but it's not the first language of any of them.
Reccer says: There's such an aching sense of longing and grief and mourning in this fic that leaves you with the feeling of an old pain, almost too small to bother dealing with, not that you even could, but every day it sticks around like a rock in your shoe. It manages to slip under your defenses in a way fiction about things like death can't always do, while still touching on loss. There's also some really excellent development of worldbuilding and Wildemount here.
Tumblr media
Proud by awaytobeunshaken (557,General) Warnings: None Pairings: Beauregard Lionett & Caleb Widogast
Beau isn't sure how to feel after her father's death. Caleb tries to comfort her anyway.
Reccer says: I liked it
Tumblr media
a white and soundless place by BeatriceEagle (7064,Teen) Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death Pairings: Una Ermendrud & Caleb Widogast
A portrait of grief, from either side of the thing.
Reccer says: Una and Leofric feel like people, rather than saints.
Tumblr media
psychopomp by hydraxx (3357,General) Warnings: Pairings: Essek Thelyss/Caleb Widogast
Essek comes back to visit Blumenthal over the centuries after Caleb dies, while a long series of local innkeepers observe his mourning process.
Reccer says: It's a really sweet look at how Essek processes losing one of the people important to him, with background worldbuilding!
Tumblr media
A Wisdom Without Face or Name by violettressed (17280,Teen) Warnings: major character death Pairings: Caduceus Clay & Jester Lavorre, Jester Lavorre & Essek Thelyss, Artagan & Jester Lavorre
Jester Lavorre spends a lifetime learning how to let go.
Reccer says: A great fic if you need a cry - there's little sparks of humor left by everyone being in character that make the entire thing even more heartfelt
Tumblr media
Things to Do in Whitestone When Your Best Friend is Dead by untropicalisland (3038,General) Warnings: major character death Pairings: Ashton Greymoore & Laudna, Percival "Percy" Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III & Ashton Greymoore
Ashton tries to make sense of FCG's death while the party regroups in Whitestone following their return from Ruidus.
Reccer says: Ashton and FCG's relationship was so great, it's nice to see something that's got Ashton processing their death. And the Percy and Ashton's dynamic is pitch perfect and *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
Synonym for Tragedy by thetickingclock (1060,Teen) Warnings: None Pairings: Orym/Dorian Storm, Fearne Calloway & Orym & Dorian Storm, Dorian Storm & Cyrus Wyvernwind, Dorian Storm & Dariax Zaveon
Dorian and his brother. The music is different now.
Reccer says: Beautiful and haunting
Tumblr media
like wildfire, it starts in my chest by ellis (ellabellachicketychella) (1523,Teen) Warnings: None Pairings: Dorian Storm & Cyrus Wyvernwind, Dorian Storm & Dariax Zaveon
If this is grief then the poems got it wrong-- or, i love how dorian's grief is rage so much. i wrote a little about it
Reccer says: A brilliant character study of Dorian after episode 93
Tumblr media
To hold, to cut by thetickingclock (1665,Teen) Warnings: None Pairings:
A series of vignettes about the coping with grief through shared work
Reccer says: It felt true
Tumblr media
This is one of our weekly communally-generated gen rec lists. Every week we announce a new theme and allow anyone to submit a fic recommendation. Please note that the summary and content notes are provided by the reccer, and may be different than what the author has provided. Please assume good intentions all around. <3
And hey, anyone includes you!
Next week, we'll be focusing on Fjord Stone! Know of something focusing on his backstory, or maybe his interior life during the campaign, that orphanage heist that happened after? You should rec it!
After that, we'll be changing things up a bit. Mentorship will be happening on the 15th, but after that, we're going to switch to a twice a month schedule - starting with Scanlan.
Any fics coming to mind? Well, then use this form to submit!
Oh! Also! Critter Gen Week is happening! We've been using the themes for our reclist - so if you're inspired by what you're reading, consider writing (or making art) for that week!

Chapter: 5/24
Summary: Six months ago, Beau adopted a teenager who loves the Cobalt Soul, but can't stand her. Ten minutes ago, Caleb accidentally summoned his own teenage self into his living room. So you know, they're both going though some shit.
At least Caleb's got experience befriending novice monks with attitude problems. And Beau's got experience befriending Caleb.
Chapter Summary: Bren makes friends; Caleb window-shops.
_____
Bren was ready to go well before Caleb the next morning. Caleb couldn't imagine he was excited to visit the Cobalt Soul—Ikithon's descriptions of the organization had always been dismissive at best. He guessed that Bren was simply eager to be out of his company. The feeling was mutual.
They ate a much simpler breakfast than the previous days', just barley porridge that Caleb had set to simmer overnight. They didn't look at each other while they ate. The short walk to Beau and Yasha's passed in silence.
Jasper answered the door. "Beau's finishing her coffee. You can come in."
He was doing a bad job of pretending not to stare at Bren. The impulse was entirely understandable, but it made Caleb's skin itch. He did not want Bren in this safe, cheerful home.

How do you imagine Beau and Yasha's wedding went down? Perhaps a surprisingly quiet ceremony with only a handful of guests? Or perhaps the usual chaos?
Honestly?
I could 100% imagine Yasha, Beau, Jester, and Veth just having a girl's night and getting absolutely smashed of Lionett Wine and Jester bringing up the fact that she can perform the ceremony again and so they just do it right then and there lol

Empire Kids + "I won't let them put their hands on you”, perhaps?
25. "I won't let them put their hands on you."
Beau paces. She cannot fight, she cannot run, she cannot claw her way through the marble walls of the courthouse in Zadash, so she paces in this tiny antechamber, round and round and round and round until Yasha claims she is going to be ill and steps outside for some water. Beau just cracks her knuckles and continues, her mind whirring into overdrive with the practice questions the lawyer Yudala Fon had assigned to her gave her to answer. She's probably recited the story of her kidnapping to Yasha, to the bathroom mirror, to the midnight stars a thousand times, and yet every time she imagines herself in the courtroom, telling it just one more time in front of everyone (in front of Zeenoth, in front of her father), her tongue becomes a sailor's rope, knotted and briny.
It's stupid, to be so nervous. She is an Expositor. It is her duty to find the truth, and this is a truth, her truth. If she were to approach this like any report she'd give Dairon or Yudala Fon or anyone else at the Cobalt Soul, her insides might not feel like the deck of a ship on choppy seas.
(But she can't, because it's not a report, dispassionate and stale. This is her life, fucked-up and raw and bruised and hers. And she is being asked to go before all of those eyes and be seen? Fuck, this is worse than being kidnapped.)
There's a knock at the door, and Yasha's adorable request for entry, as if Beau would ever say no, okay, that's a nice little distraction. "Yeah."
The door creaks open, and instead of long, wild white hair, a mop of ginger appears, tired blue eyes and three-day scruff just below. "Are you busy?"
Beau lets out an ironic laugh, and finally, she stops her pacing. "No, actually, just thinking about laying down for a nap."
Caleb must take her sarcasm as an invitation, because he steps inside, closing the door behind him. "Yasha is just out in the hall. She seems...well. Not much better than you seem, if I am being honest."
Beau crosses her arms over her chest defensively. "I'm fine. It's whatever. It needs to be done, so I'm doing it."
"Ja, well, we know that sentiment well, no?" Caleb takes the chair that Yasha had abandoned, and somehow, his eyes feels worse than the dozens of unfamiliar one's she about to face. "This is the worst part, I promise."
Beau doesn't need to ask what he means. He's just come off the heels of his own trial, where he stared down the man who undeniably did worse to him than Zeenoth or her father ever thought about doing to her. Her eyes land on the slightly pushed-up sleeves of his jacket, on the few scars she can see. "I just want it over with."
"I know."
"I just wish I could..." She sighs. "I don't know! Write this shit down and have someone else read it. I don't know why it has to be me."
"I know."
"And why do they have to be there?" She doesn't say who she means. She doesn't have to. "I mean, Zeenoth, whatever, fuck that guy, but my dad? And, shit, I have no idea who else from the Soul is gonna show up, and you know that there are more people involved than just Zeenoth, people who aren't gonna like what I have to say. And...you know, with Yasha there, I just..." She stumbles back to slump against the wall. "I just want to go home."
There is a long silence, during which they stare at each other, these two Empire kids, so much bullshit between them, until Caleb rises and crosses the antechamber to stand before her. "You are Beauregard Lionett." He lays his hands atop her forearms and gently pries them apart, and it's only then that she realizes what a death grip she's had on her own torso. "You are the strongest person I have ever met. I am a very smart man—" She rolls her eyes. "—and I am telling you know that of all of the things that I know, the thing I know the most is how capable you are. And you are capable of this."
She's so fucking pissed at the way her eyes prick. "And what if I'm scared?"
"I said you were strong, Beauregard. I did not say you weren't human."
She runs her wrist beneath her nose with a sniffle. "Yeah. Yeah okay. Yeah, fuck them."
"And do not forget, Yasha and I will be in the room with you, ja? I will not let them put their hands on you. Neither of us will. You may stare down the world, Beauregard, but not alone. Never alone."
And much to her own dismay, she throws her arms around his neck, sinking her weight into this scrawny wizard who somehow, when she wasn't looking, became the closest thing she has to family. "Thank you, Caleb."
He squeezes her tight. "Of course. Now, let me go get Yasha before she tears her hair from her head."
Beau lets out a wet laugh and nods, releasing him. "Yeah, okay." And she watches him head for the door, and for the first time today, she thinks that maybe she's gonna be alright.

updates! CR fic!
So I published something like 17,000 words of fic in July, quickly polished off another treat at the beginning of August, and then finally shipped my laptop off for repairs.
(The laptop screen was broken for months, but it took so long to repair that I didn't want to give up my computer for that long during surgery recovery or when I had deadlines)
So, along with finishing Endless Numbered Days, I wrote:
A Reflection or Molding (1,427 words) Caduceus Clay & Essek Thelyss Caduceus experiences a loss. Essek comforts him For Critter Gen Week - Mourning. Fun fact - I've had this concept in the back of my mind for 2-3 years, and finally had an excuse to pull it out. A Murder of Esseks (3,749, 2/? chapters) Beauregard & Essek, Essek & Essek & Essek & Essek Essek is invited to a multi-reality Essek convention. An Essek Thelyss Dies. An Essek Thelyss investigates. On possibilities, and confronting what could have been. For Critter Gen Week - Class Swap and Free day. Fun fact - this has been on my prompt list because I liked the general idea, but could never figure out the emotional arc/prompt. Then, after years, I got it. Delilah & Deirta (as yet untitled - 1334 words, so far) Delilah Briarwood & Deirta Thelyss; Deirta Thelyss & Essek Thelyss Before getting involved with Vecna, Delilah attempts to get the information on consecution out of the Dynasty. Deirta sees an opening. For Critter Gen Week - Cross Campaign. Fun Fact - the doc title for this is 'In the Hall of the Mountain King Increases'
Dog Duty (3,407 words) Ashton Greymoore & Milo Krook; Fresh Cut Grass & Milo Krook; Milo Krook & FRIDA & Deanna Leimert Punk houses don't make for stable living situations. Ashton brings a new roommate home. And after a few more cycles of people coming and going, Milo does, too. For Wildflowers. Fun fact - originally I had Deanna refer to Zhudanna as a Delta - because I'm like 90% convinced that Deanna's color scheme is an AKA reference. Then I realized that I'm the only one who is thinking about historically black sororities while writing fanfic, that I absolutely could not seem to make omegaverse canon in a gen fic gift. So I changed the line. (though really, it'd be the funniest way to make omegaverse canon) Commitment Ceremony (954 words) Jester Lavorre & Beauregard Lionett & Essek Thelyss There's no limit to Jester's imagination when it comes to her wedding. Beau brings Essek in to talk her down. For Wildflowers. Fun Fact - the multiple receptions is what I ended up doing for my wedding - five cities, eight events, my mother-in-law got to plan her own thing, and it ended up costing less than one large standard wedding. We had t-shirts.

OH GODS I SAID A THING™ AND NOW I CAN'T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD:
Probably because of the Announcement of the Animated M9 Series, but...
"Wildemount. The final Continent. This is the story of a rag-tag band of mercenaries and sellswords. Their five year Campaign? Prevent a reality altering relic from falling into the wrong hands, discover new conspiracies between warring nations, and boldly go where no one has gone (for good reason) before."
I call this abomination of an idea: DEEP SPACE NEIN!
And yes, it's every bit as cursed as you can imagine a CR / Star Trek crossover to be!
Everyone needs their space on the UNSC-1909 "Mighty Nein":
Fjord "The Unwitting Face of the group" Stone: Captain. That one's obvious.
Beauregard "Beau" Lionett: Number One. Because she gets physical and FUCKS. You can blame Ryker for this one...
Yasha "Worf WISHES he hit this hard" Nydoorin: Security. Nuff said.
Caleb "my phaser doesn't have a Stun setting" Widogast: Navigation. Keen Mind once again comes in clutch!
Nott/Veth "The Brave" Brenatto: Engineering. Yeza helps as well! She's still CONSTANTLY smashed and that's how she does her best work!
Genevieve "Jester" Lavorre: Comms. This one is primarily because of the Message spell... During their travels, she finds a sterile Tribble she names "Sprinkle". Hilarity ensues.
Caduceus "Earl" Clay: Ship Doctor. Always a bit of tea on hand to talk about somebody else's problems. The crew knows better than to ask why he gets a new batch of tea whenever Spurt gets killed, though...
Mollymauk "Nine Eyes" Tealeaf: The hot bartender who illegally smuggled himself into the ship to escape a past he himself doesn't remember... Sees EVERYTHING. Knows everyone's secrets.
Essek "The Hover" Thelyss: That ONE guy in the Transponder room that energizes the teleporters. He seems unimportant until he gets promoted to Series Regular halfway through Season 2 due to his unexpected Political connections and insight.
He accidentally invented hover boots while messing around Engineering and now NEVER takes them off...
Bonus:
+ Pumat S.0.L: Ship's AI voice. Occasional holograms of him show up to manage the built-in shops, respectfully.
+ Kiri: Baby on board. The Wesley Crusher of the show. She and Luc get along quite well!
+ Shakaste: Chief Science Officer. Don't even give him LaForge shades. Have a little robotic Hummingbird called the Grand Duchess scan the area with sonar and directly transmit the info to his brain!
+ Calliana: Pilot. She flies the ship. Whether it's smooth sailing or crazy, death-defying acrobatics depends on her mood that day.
+ Spurt: The Red Shirt. It's always him. The same one. He always dies and comes back next episode like nothing ever happened. Nobody acknowledges this. "It's been 11 days since Spurt last went Splat".
+ Keg: A down-on-her-luck space smuggler the crew encounters on occasion. She's almost never followed by good news, but she's good for her word, and (with some "persuasion" from Beau) will usually help the crew out of a pinch.
+ Nila: She and her family were diplomats/emissaries for a pacifist race, but when her husband and child get kidnapped by Keg's old partners in crime, the Iron Shepherds, Nila proves to be a formidable spy on top of a ferocious fighter...
+ Reani: Still a vigilante, plain and simple. She goes from planet to planet "rescuing" people with her own lethal brand of justice. Her abilities as a shapeshifter and her interest in biology make her a valuable ally though, not to mention that she knows just about every shady person on any given sector...
+ Twiggy: The ship's resident Archeologist, albeit the most eccentric member of the crew. She specializes in identifying where magical artifacts come from, and dragging the crew on "archeological escapades" for "Science". Her pet squirrel Trixie and Caleb's cat Frumpkin seem to be good friends, but neither of them feel comfortable around Sprinkle for some reason...
+ Yussa: The Negotiator. Not because he can smooth-talk anyone, that's Fjord's thing. No, Yussa's the negotiator because of how EASILY he can figure out what everybody wants. Although he keeps a calm exterior, he has a habit of taking EVERYTHING regarding anything that resembles a puzzle or a mystery as a challenge, and his hubris WILL get the crew into trouble more than once...
Occasional antagonists include:
# The Iron Shepherds: Led by the dreadful Lorenzo, these low life slavers make their credits pulling the most despicable jobs... Regardless of who pays for them, so long as the job is paid for.
# Captain Avantika: Obligatory femme fatale with a thing for Fjord. Whether it's a relationship born of convenience, manipulation or simply blind worship towards the same thing, nobody can really tell. The pirate captain of the "Squalleater" is OBSESSED with releasing an entity which she believes to be an ancient god, hidden in the farthest reaches of space... And only the crew can stop her from achieving her malicious goal.
# Obann and the Unkillable Family: Much like Avantika, the God-releasing MO stands, but rather than getting their followers by power of charisma or duty, the crew of the ravager ship "Angel of Irons" directly controls the minds of the people they believe might help them accomplish their goal... Including the Nein's own Chief of Security for a time.
# Special Guest Star Matthew Mercer as "The Traveler": He's Q. That's it. He's JUST Q. There is no joke, there is no agenda other than wanting to become a God himself, but taking such a liking to Jester that he can never endanger the crew to continue his schemes, so he finds ways to trick them into helping him out... Mostly by pretending to be a sterile Tribble and arousing chaos wherever he goes.
And that's what I've got! Let me know what you think! I'm not very good at AUs, but I couldn't get this idea out of my head!

WIP WEDNESDAY
Hello gang! I am about 8k into what's going to be a MASSIVE chapter, so I'm not too far in yet, but I'm getting there! In the meantime, here's a preview:
-
Beau chewed on her thumbnail as she stared at her board in the library, now laden with new observations that seemed sporadic and random and yet definitely seemed to be becoming more and more like the Pattern that Lucien had sketched out that one day. The new addition of Nerida alongside her connection to Alder Allard and their connection to Jayne put a lot more into perspective, but it still didn’t explain any connection to the Somnovem.
She scribbled a note about the abyssal anchors on a small gap on the board and tapped her chalk-dusted fingers on the amulet around her neck.
“What d’you think, Lu?”
Lucien’s voice in her head sounded miserable- it had been awhile since he’d been trapped in the gem, so she couldn’t blame him for it, though she suspected it went much deeper than that. He’d just been hit with a massive onslaught of new information and none of it made any damn sense.
”I think someone wanted me to hurt and I can’t imagine why.”
“The way you talk about the Somnovem and how they act around you-“ she could feel Lucien flinch, “- maybe you were always being groomed for this.”
”I think that much is obvious, Beauregard.”
“I’m just saying… There’s your Somnovem connection. These people, for whatever reason, wanted you to be driven to become the Nonagon. The question is why you and why do they have so much skin in the Somnovem’s game.”
”Excellent questions, both, aye.”
He wasn’t going to be any further help in this. She found herself irritated by it, even knowing that wasn’t fair. It was easier to be annoyed at him for not being helpful with what could finally crack the secrets to this fucking ordeal and save himself and Molly than it was to focus on the real elephant in the room.
Tomorrow they would be headed to Kamordah.
She wanted nothing more to throw herself into her work and let it consume her utterly until she was nothing but facts and figures and puzzles to be sorted out. If her head was buzzing with information then maybe once they arrived in her old stomping grounds, she would have a shield worthy of catching whatever barbs her dad wanted to throw her way. She could keep herself focused on what mattered and ignore what didn’t, because Thoreau Lionett didn’t matter.
Right.
Family mattered- that was the tragedy of having family. The fucker had done the unthinkable and sold her to the Cobalt Soul and somehow weaseled out of punishment for it and as much as she wanted to be able to hold her head high and walk into his house and laugh in his face about how stupid he was to think someone wouldn’t have clocked him, she knew better. That he was clocked was a lucky break and he still got away with it. Even seeing him embarrassed and disgraced wouldn’t derail the truth.
And yet he mattered. She wanted to find something in him that proved he’d realized his mistake and was willing to apologize. It was a thought that was going to get her hurt and she knew it and that was why she wanted to do everything in her power to avoid thinking about it.
The chalk snapped between her fingers and Beau stared at it with all the confusion of a child that had only just learned it had the capacity for destruction. She let the pieces fall to the floor, uselessly and ran a hand down her face without consideration for the dust on her fingers and exhaled. “It feels like we’re just chasin’ our tails.”
Two hundred pounds of Blink Dog materialized out of thin air and hip-checked her onto the ground. She hollered as she fell, trying to catch herself, but only ended up in a defensive crouch as Rock began to assault her with kisses and whining. Her protests only seemed to make him more enthusiastic about licking her to death.
Yasha’s heavy footfalls preceded her suddenly yanking him off by his collar and cooing at him in Sylvan until he became a rigid obedient and model dog, albeit one panting and smiling like Beau was the greatest thing in the world in his eyes. She shot him a smile and rubbed the dog spit off her face with the back of her hand. “Hey, buddy.”
Rock whined, pawed the ground in a little dance that toed the line between wanting to be obedient and wanting to leap onto her again. He looked to Yasha for permission and she placed a hand on his head and rubbed the soft velvet of his big ears. “Shh shhh it’s okay.” She dipped her head, apologetically, at Beau. “Sorry.”
“Nah, don’t be. I think he knows when I’m stressed.” To show no hard feelings, she cupped Rock’s muzzle in her hands and rubbed the thin fur around his face. In return, he licked the last of the chalk dust off her nose. “You should get him one of those emotional support dog vests.”
“He’s been really good with the Clays,” Yasha shrugged. “He wore Clarabelle out.”
Beau moved her scritches to Rock’s chest and his tail thumped excitedly on the ground. “Caduceus’s family seems… Nice, right?”
Yasha cocked her head to the side the same way a puppy might. “Yeah, I think so. They’re, um… Not like him? I guess he’s dad is a little bit.” She frowned deeper. “I dunno what I was expecting.”
“A bunch of Caduceus clones, all of them, like, spouting insightful shit and being wise and perceptive and, like, self-righteous in a way that’s almost charming?”
“Maybe.”
“Families contain multitudes, I guess.” She winced, realizing that in trying to talk about Caduceus’s family, she’d opened the door to talk about her own. Desperately, she fumbled for a change in subject and landed on someone else’s bullshit instead. “Hey, speaking of that… Lucien, when you were in the Run, did you, uh… Talk to Ophelia?”
Lucien’s sigh filled her head the same way smoke fills an empty room. ”No. I had better things to do.”
“Like pining for us?”
”I wasn’t pining. I was bored.”
“But are you?” Yasha piped up. “Gonna talk to her, I mean.”
He fell silent again for a long moment. ”When I have something to say to that woman, then perhaps. She left me behind because someone offered her a better deal than bein’ my mother. I feel like despite it all, I managed a better deal than bein’ her son. We don’t owe each other anything. She’s not worth all the hate I’ve got in my black heart for others. She was just as much a pawn in this game as I was. I don’t have to forgive her for it, but I recognize that whether fate or gods or nightmares have surrounded me my entire life, they would have pushed her out, eventually, had she stayed. Obviously, I inherited her survival instincts.”
Beau could only dream of being that practical about her family. Never before had she considered she might be jealous of fucking Lucien. She blew out a long breath that made a pbblt sound against her lips. “Not to use you as a hot potato, Lu, but I’m gonna pass you off to somebody else for a tick, so I can have some alone time with my girl.”
“Well, at least you’re being polite about it,” Lucien deadpanned. ”I wanted to talk to Cree anyway.”
“You got it, boss,” she deadpanned right back.

The Apoptosis Project: Character Voices
Hey squad, I did one of these way back in the Twilight Crusade days, but never got around to it for The Apoptosis Project. So, yeah. Here ya go:
Caspian - Kyle McCarley (9S)
NieR:Automata Best setting customizaton ever! :D
Alternatively, as weird as it may sound, Elijah Wood. His voice for Wirt has the same “not exactly nasally but almost there” sound.
Over The Garden Wall - wirt being my introversion incarnate
Lazula - Ashly Burch (Aloy)
Horizon Zero Dawn - Helis captures Aloy - All Dialogue Choices - The Terror of the Sun
As a fun bonus, the voice of Helis (the dude she’s talking to) is the closest to Condor’s voice I’ve heard thus far. So this is about what chapter 81 sounded like.
Snow - Ryan Bartley (Rei Ayanami)
https://youtu.be/P-an-6-dbac?t=118
Makes sense since she’s heavily Rei-inspired
Moka: Cherami Leigh (Makoto Niijima)
Makoto Niijima (Priestess) Social Events 1-8 | Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight
Noxis - Gavin Drea (V/Male Protagonist)
Cyberpunk 2077 Act 1 Ending
And, since it’s Noxis, I think need to include an example of him shouting. I don’t blame Cas for being intimidated. Cyberpunk 2077 Act 1 Ending
Lilly: Allegra Clark (Dorothea)
https://youtu.be/VHohe_zkZ-A?t=175
Dorothea, in this clip. The girl with the hat.
Ichigo: Zeno Robinson (Green coat kid? IDK lol)
https://youtu.be/9R_pvj-uIEM?t=172
The kid in the green coat in this video. I’ve never seen this show and honestly I’m not even sure what it is. But the actor was just revealed for a game I’m hyped for, and I was looking up his other roles when I found this.
Rowan: Max Mittleman (Ryuji Sakamoto)
Ryuji Dub Highlights || Persona 5: The Animation
Makes sense, because they’re honestly pretty similar as characters.
Laurel: Marisha Ray (Beauregard Lionett)
Beau and the Punk Kid | Travis is Broken | Critical Role C2E88 Highlight
I’ve always imagined Laurel having the same surfer-esque accent, Marisha’s Beau voice tracks just about perfectly

SUPERS! - Fury of Beau's!: Beau dashes forward at full speed with Step of the Wind and crashes against the enemy. If it's not blocked, this attack starts a MASSIVE long Combo! The most SNK-Rush-Super thing you can imagine and it ends with her poping her opponent upwards and hitting a flying kick worthy of Bruce Lee to finish! - Stillness of Mind: Beau takes a deep breath and an aura envelops her. For the duration of this aura, Beau is immune to stuns, pop-ups and bounces of any kind, effectively cutting the enemy's Combos short every time. - Debilitating Barrage: A heavy hitting three-piece combo that hits slow and hits like a TRUCK! Beau puts all her body into the first two hits, and then closes it out with a One-Inch Punch! For a few seconds after this Super hits, enemies take extra damage from any non-projectile attack that comes from Beau! If the enemy blocks this Super, the full combo continues, but can be interrupted. However, the final hit is slow, but Unblockable. CRITICAL ATTACK!!! DIAMOND SOUL: Beau pulls out her Wind Fan and sends a BIG wind projectile forward! It can be blocked. If it hits, though, the fun begins! Beau rushes forward and cracks a staff over the enemy's head, which stuns them for a second... JUST long enough for Dairon to fly in and kick them over the head again! That's right! Guest-Super! The two proceed to demonstrate a Teacher-Student beatdown upon the enemy and aventually demolish them physically. Once the enemy is sufficiently beaten up, Dairon holds them up so Beau can have the killing blow, to which Beau answers by backing up, and FLYING FORWARD with Step of the Wind and hitting a final Double Fist at LUDICROUS speeds! Dairon bows and jumps off screen if the move doesn't kill, and stays and gives Beau pointers on her form if the move ends the fight. I think her victory poses would involve writing in her journal and taking notes, pulling out a bottle of Lionett Wine and drinking it or just putting on her Cape of the Mountebank and vanishing with Dimension Door! That or putting on her Headband of Intellect and sitting down to meditate on the spot. And that's what I've got for Beau! @oddthesungod made this wonderful art and I was INSPIRED! When Campaign 3 ends, I'll come back and do one for Ashton!
Tumblr media
