Idk why but as a kid I used to get hysterically upset everytime I would imagine a gif of a rotating cow because I could never stop the cow from rotating no matter how hard I tried and I would be crying and no one knew why

It is not possible to think your way out of an interpersonal conflict or ambiguous social situation. The information that you require in order to move forward dwells inside of another person, and you literally cannot figure that out yourself, no matter how good at perception, pattern matching, fawning, making up scenarios in your head, preparing, or minimizing your feelings you are.

finished severance today and ngl was not a fan of s2. s1 felt interesting, satirical, and narratively intentional? in a way that did not manage to persist. i think unfortunately like a lot of speculative fiction it threw a ball into the air that it was not fully prepared to catch and it's disappointing to see the high points of the s1 ending scatter into nothingness while we get a s2 about mark being the most special boy alive. i don't find him compelling as a protagonist at all (which is personal preference but also obviously impacts how much i enjoy the show)! some side characters get their own subplots but they don't feel impactful to the outcome of the story while others are relegated to Minding Mark duty. helly r isn't even THERE for 2/3s of the season!!

the dramatic flashbacks and a lot of the weird set ups in s2 makes it seem like they were going for more of a thriller vibe this season where the goal was more to be unsettling than it was to be meaningful (the ortbo ...). and don't get me wrong even with all that i would still consider it a "fine" show but it's just kinda disappointing when i was so genuinely intrigued by the first season

One big advantage of literary fantasy over more visual media is that you can hide completely batshit worldbuilding in plain sight. Like, yeah, what this setting calls "elves" are actually grey aliens, like from UFO folklore, but it takes thirty chapters for the reader to get enough information to piece that together because none of the viewpoint characters particularly remark upon it. Why would they? Elves looking like that is normal for them.
