Just thinking out loud about wanting to replay Breath of the Wild, and the "single save file/playthrough" nonsense. This is my blog and I do what I want.

Household Switch situation There are two Switches in the house. Though my login info is the actual account that is used for purchases through Nintendo, the other Switch is actually marked as primary so that the other person in the house can play games I buy and we don't have to share a console.

What this means Because of the thing where Nintendo decided you only require one save file/playthrough for BOTW/TOTK (whereas in the past, you could have up to three playthroughs!), I... have only one playthrough. One playthrough complete to my personal satisfaction.

And, the thing is I love the new mechanics of Tears of the Kingdom (there's a "but" about TOTK to follow, of course). I love the Ultrahand; I love having near-unlimited telekinesis vs BOTW's Magnesis, plus the "stick objects to other objects" thing, outside of weaponry fusing. I also love having near-unlimited arrows, to which I can fuse shit for effects/damage, rather than carefully managing and conserving and worrying about my arrows.

Also It does have more Sidon. I can travel with an avatar of Sidon that may be somewhat useless, but he's... Sidon. Sidon, my beloved. Oh. No, sorry, I mean: Sidon, Link's beloved.

But There's a lot about TOTK that just isn't grabbing me. I felt absolutely no lure back to it when I picked up Baldur's Gate III and I'm having trouble wanting to get back into it. It's largely the way it both replicates BOTW but also seems weirdly disconnected from it. I know from many, many years of playing the franchise that Zelda since probably Link to the Past is as much about mechanics and puzzle-solving as it is about the narrative. Not that narrative has never existed or been important, but it's not the driving force of the games. It's more narratively-driven than, like, Mario, but perhaps less than, I guess, an Elder Scroll. But the fact that TOTK is a direct sequel with so little narrative coherence with its predecessor is a major low point here, especially given that the actual narrative is not happening to the character you're controlling.

Minor aside This isn't like Final Fantasy X or XII where the blond twink is a decoy protagonist* (we're all in agreement that Yuna and Ashe are the actual protagonists of those games, right? right?). Tidus and Vaan fully experience those stories alongside the actual protagonists. Poor Link is playing almighty janitor* while Zelda experiences the narrative.

BUT I just watched a really long retrospective of BOTW by Liam Triforce over on YouTube and I want to play BOTW again in between BG3 sessions.

BUT BUT I know I could add a new user account to my Nintendo Switch and link it and all... but I won't be able to play the Champion's Ballad DLC, because of that thing where the other Switch has to be the primary console.

So the dilemma is if I want DLC content, I have to delete my complete playthrough. The one where I have 10,000+ rupees and all of the armour, fully upgraded, and have done the worst shrines and stuff.

The idea is practically giving me indigestion. Actually, given that I really do currently have some indigestion, it might have actually given me indigestion as I think about this dilemma and don't know what to do. I forgave Breath of the Wild for weapon durability and for the fact that there aren't any "real" Zelda dungeons a long time ago. The "one save file and that's IT" remains thoroughly unforgivable, and I will die on that hill.

I never deleted my first complete playthroughs of any previous Zelda, and I genuinely resent that Nintendo changed it like this because... something something piracy, I guess? Something something stopping people from account sharing? I don't KNOW?

And, yes, this all means, in all these years, I have only ever played--only ever experienced--Breath of the Wild once. And it's Nintendo's fault. I will pick it up every now and then and faff around, but that's all.

I suppose in the meantime I'll just keep playing Baldur's Gate III. 'Cause Larian is a normal video game company (not a toy company, I'll die on that hill about Nintendo, too) and will allow me to have multiple playthroughs at the same time with the same account with full access to the entire game that I paid for.

After giving himself a one-over in his long mirror, he walked behind you and plopped onto the bed, waiting for you to be ready.

One final brush stroke of mascara and you were done. You turned in your chair to face your boyfriend. “Your hair is so cute baby. Why don’t you wear it out today?”

Chan blushed a bit before looking down. He always got like this when the hair conversation came up.

After peeling Chan’s beanie off, you gave his scalp a quick rub, earning a light moan in response. You took your time combing through his hair, adding some heat protection and a silkening gloss before running the styling tool through it. Once you’d finished, you made sure to add some holding spray to make sure it would last him the day. “Alright, final check,” you said, swooping your feet out and turning them so you could land in front of him. You let yourself fall down to your knees so that you were straddling his lap. “Okay now look at me,” you instructed. Without really giving him time to cooperate, you placed your hands at his jaw to tilt his head up to eye level with you.

“Perfect,” you smiled, admiring how handsome he looked with his hair on display. “Now tell me-“ you strained as you reached backward to grab a mirror off of your table. “If there’s anything you want me to change,” you said, holding the mirror out to Chan.

He took it carefully before bringing it to his head. He swerved it around, making sure to check every angle. “Wow,” he smiled before lowering the mirror, “you did a good job, babe. It looks really good. Thank you,” he said sweetly before reaching out to grab your hand. He held it so softly, so tenderly before holding it up in front of his lips. He pressed a small kiss onto the back of your hand as he watched you, thanking you again silently with his eyes.

The gesture put a wide grin on your face. You squeezed onto his hand again before leaning into a hug. “You don’t need to thank me, I’d do it any day. But next time…” you said, pulling back, “we’re leaving your curls, okay?” You lightly scratched the back of his neck.

A little smile spread across him. “If you think you can manage it.”

Has anyone coined a term for this phenomenon/aesthetic? because it's been a trend across all girls toy design, not just plush, and seemingly kicked off in the late 2000s to early 2010s

Littlest Pet Shop is the earliest example I know of

Compare 90s Littlest Pet Shop vs the 2005 reboot vs 2010 era toys. The designs just trend more cartoon-y and rainbow-y over time

FurReal Friends were another victim, with a sharp shift happening around 2012 towards big googly eyes

And we can't forget the Beanie Babies/Beanie Boos! The Boos launched in 2009

Even the Ubisoft Petz games took a swing at this style for a couple games, though it failed to save the brand lol

Build a Bear admittedly still offers both, but the Honey Girls line is still a good example of the phenomenon in action

And of course we can't forget our friend the Furby, just the latest victim to this phenomenon.

Now this probably just a case where one brand started using this aesthetic, got successful, and everyone else started copying it to the point where it's now the default. Probably with a big pinch of "toys are being targeted to younger and younger kids" thrown in as well. And maybe it really does test better with kids, idk. But I know when I was a kid, I would have picked the more realistic one, every time.

Uh oh, who let me into a fandom again? Who left the niche within a niche door open??? Y’all should know better.

@sm-baby’s Carnival AU for The Amazing Digital Circus grabbed me by the bootstraps with??? Inspiration??? Not only have I dodged most fandoms and the motivation to draw fanart (not that I don’t want to show support; just no ideas in the noggin), but I genuinely don’t think I’ve sat down and put a non-ironic, genuine OC for a media I like on paper since my Warrior Cats/Creepypasta era. This AU didn’t just get me to sit down and make an OC that fits with the original media, but one that fits with their derivative. I saw other people doing it and it looked like so much fuunnn.

First, have standard TADC version! Either that or a player.

This is Tuus! They’re mainly based on the beanie baby dragon to fit that sweet sweet 90s theme, but generally a mixture of beloved childhood toys I have sitting on my shelf. She’s scruffy, worn, and kinda dirty looking and that’s on purpose. She’s bottom heavy, and I wanted her wings to give off the texture of that basically-plastic shiny fabric you used to see on a lot of toys.

No mouth, but a randomly appearing lizard tongue. For fun.

Tuus deals with the circus by sleeping. A lot. Too much. If you don’t need to sleep, then you don’t need to be awake. If she’s doing to be trapped in a digital hell, she might as well be catching up on her naps. And she will sleep in the worst places. Time for a digital feast? She’s on the table. Caine wants to have an adventure in the lake? Girl is at the bottom. Sleeping with the fishes fr fr. And you need to find her one day? Nowhere to be seen, probably on the roof.

It’s playing on the whole big, lazy, sleeping dragon thing that used to be in a lot of children stories I remember. But also how well loved childhood toys seem to pop up and disappear, there when you aren’t looking but gone when you are. Her name also means “Your” or “Thy.” Your dragon.

BUT AT THE CARNIVAL?

What amusement park is complete without a gift shop? What game doesn’t have a place to buy goofy digital goods? Tuus is the big lady in charge of the gift place of the Carnival! Her room is what should have been a shop of sorts, to buy whatever products that darned company would have tried to push. Cosmetics, virtual toys, digital snacks, whatever. But, uh, I don’t think anyone told them dragons don’t like to…. share. Becoming sentient did wonders for the attitude. You should be just fine if you don’t make too much noise, though! She’s a lazy lizard, and often sleeps sprawled around the place. I imagine the level would be set up like a maze, or a labyrinth. Isles and isles of things, with peaks of a tail or smoke every now and again. Toys, clothing, and even random things that shouldn’t be in there just trash the path. It’s your job not to step on anything! It’s different each time, though (a speed runner’s nightmare). One level you might get lucky and have a straight shot with a sleeping dragon, the next there might be so many things it’s physically impossible to reach any exit at all. Potentially can get out of trouble with some digital coin™, but you’ll have to have found enough hidden in the room to forgive each “damaged item.”

Here she is much, MUCH larger and far cleaner. An oversized display never meant to be bought. A collectors item far too expensive for a child. Think “I used to be a beloved toy and now I’ve been forgotten, even forgetting myself, and this is how I cope” favor VS “I have never known the touch of a person and have been trapped on this shelf only to be abandoned and have the personality of an unsocialized dog” flavor.

She has no mouth, but she bites.

You're a dinosaur 🦕 baby in the museum of my broken hearted 💔 past.

I haven't done much in the way of deciphering Emily's social media posts lately, but this one's GIANT, so hold onto your hats (Puns intended)

Just as the show has been leaving us hints about Beth's return, so has Emily in her projects, music, and social media posts.

I've written about many of them over the years, this one is no different, and it's no coincidence...

Most of you will know about Emily's new merch beanie with the broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕

It's inspired by her song Avett Brothers. Here is a snippet of the relevant lyrics from the song.

The broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕 and the museum are without question links to Beth's return, so let's look at how...

In season 5, Daryl and Carol jump into a car to go find Beth.

That car eventually helps Daryl find her.

That car is also connected to the episode Consumed, in which Daryl and Carol (after being recently reunited in 501) find a clue to Beth's whereabouts and go searching for her.

And It's by that car they get the initial clue that helps them to find Beth (Daryl sees the car with the white cross)

I'm sure you all remember that Carol plays a pivotal role in getting that car to work by charging the battery.

That car from back in season 5 has a very specific symbol on the keyring 🦕

Without that dinosaur keyring and Carol charging the battery, Daryl would never have found Beth.

The upcoming Book of Carol seemingly has many repeating themes from around the era of Consumed.

We will see a Daryl/Carol reunion, like we saw in 501.

The two will again be separated from the rest of their family like they were in Consumed (thanks in large part to the dinosaur 🦕 and the clue they receive)

The character Isabelle (Beth proxy) will be returning in season 2.

And, we know the storyline will bring them to a museum - The Louvre.

The broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕 is symbolic of a lost ancient giant love that is long in the past, thought to be extinct.

What's kept in museums? The past... they hold pieces of history.

In this case, as Emily puts it, a dinosour, aka ancient love ❤️

Emily knows. She's always known...

The show has more recently given us links to Beth and museums as well.

We saw it hinted at in Daryl Dixon season 1, especially in the credits with the self-portrait of Marie Gabrielle-Carpet, who lived in a museum...the Louvre, with her love.

Isabelle was a very obvious Beth proxy in DD1, and this self-portrait of Marie in the opening credits is shown along with the name of the actess who plays Isabelle. Linking the Museum to Isabelle and by proxy to Beth.

Genet in DD1 also mentions working in a museum to Codron when she realises Codron has switched sides and betrayed her by not killing Isabelle (Beth) and Laurent and stopping them from getting to the Nest (a representation of the pyramid/Louvre)

Thorne in TOWL episode one, a repeat of Dawn and Genet in many ways, also mentions a museum to Rick.

She tell Rick that the girl they saved, lived in a museum. The dead overran the museum, but the girl was saved by hiding in a giant grasshopper. That girl lost her family and had no one.

The giant grasshopper symbolism is linked here to a museum - linking it to Beth (also grasshoppers are Greene).

In this story, the girl that lost her family survived inside the museum, inside the (green) grasshopper.

Just like the key ring dinosaur in season 5. The dinosaur 🦕 museum in The Book of Carol could very well lead to a clue about Beth and a long lost love ❤️.

Now, If you read my last post, i mention the many links to the biblical story of Moses that were seen in TOWL episode 2. Well the "Giant" and "Grasshopper" symbolism is another link to the story of Moses, when he is leading his people into the promised land.

The verse they are pulling from in the story Thorne tells is in Numbers 13.33

There we saw the giants and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

When Moses leads his people to the outskirts of the promised land, they send scouts ahead, to go into the land before entering it. The above verse is what the scouts report back.

They saw Giants in the land and they seemed liked grasshoppers because they were so small in comparison.

I've written before how the Nest (pyramid shaped) in Daryl Dixon season 1 and the Louvre are both representations of the promised land in the story of Moses.

I also wrote about a promotion for The book of Carol x that gave her the symbolism of Balaam's donkey. (another link to the promised land)

And now we have this "Giant", "Grasshopper" and Museum symbolism linked to a museum to add to it all.

Overall, these symbols represent repeating history, and history is a dinosaur museum...Emily gave us a "key" to unlock the symbolism.

The Wolf comes home through repeating the past and a clue to her return is linked to a dinosaur 🦕 and museums and love, so the book of Carol is going to be very interesting, especially as we know that wolf 🐺 = Louvre.

Could the dinosaurs 🦕 broken heart 💔 be mended ❤️ by going back in time...to a museum of the broken-hearted past?

i will never understand the hate that some older millennials direct towards younger adults born in the mid to late 90s. i’m a zillennial (january of ‘98) and while i haven’t lived either the FULL millennial or gen z experience, i DO know that shitting on people solely for the year they were born in is fucked up. it’s very disheartening how grown adults will gatekeep entire cultural phenomena. the commodification of media thanks to sites like buzzfeed has convinced us that we did not truly experience something unless we had physical ephemera of that era. if we didn’t have 20 beanie babies or didn’t hear bye bye bye on a hitclip or had to wait 20 minutes to use dial-up internet or used T9 on a flip phone or watched clarissa explains it all live on nickelodeon, we weren’t really #millennials. 30-year-old grown adults are saying shit like ‘oh, you like that? well guess what, i grew up with it and LIVED through it.’ on the flip side of this coin, we can and should ALSO acknowledge the existence of cringe without making people feel excluded from participating in said phenomena. if we shit on zoomers for rediscovering early 2000s fashion trends or listening to music of the late 90s, or shit on 1997 & 1998 adults for having little to no recollections of a time before 9/11, what are we doing? what does that say about our generation? what does that say about how we define ourselves?? it’s a boomer mentality that is tainting the experience for all of us, not to mention dividing us up. we can be nostalgic for a time when life was indeed simpler without being actively harsh to young people also partaking in that innocence. please be kind and let people enjoy things.
