Hugh Bonneville promises 'new elements' and 'thrills and spills' in Downton Abbey 3
The actor tells Yahoo UK that he thinks the new film is the "best" of the franchise
Downton Abbey made some big changes on the big screen with 2022's A New Era, but Robert Crawley star Hugh Bonneville assures Yahoo UK that the upcoming third film will be even bigger and better than anything that has come before it.
Speaking with Yahoo UK for a Role Recall interview, the actor shares that the film feels like a "lovely coming together of people". Fans will be rivetted by what is to come for Robert and the Crawley family because the film is full of "spills and thrills" according to Bonneville, who took a break from production to promote his new ITV series Douglas is Cancelled.
"For my character, I think the usual [can be expected], which is that he's a sort of dinosaur trying to be led into the future reluctantly, and then eventually he stumbles forward a bit," Bonneville teases.
"So as always, there's that rhythm of things changing with glacial slowness, and Robert finally accepting that things [are changing] — it's time to move the story on, so to speak. It's got the usual tropes, if you like, of thrills and spills in a very Downtown [sic] way, which means spilling a tea cup pretty much!
"People who've watched the show over the years and have loved it will miss Maggie Smith's presence. She doesn't step out of the shower and it's all been a dream, she is gone.
"But, I think there's so much warmth and fun to enjoy, and new elements as well — which I won't spoil — that I think it'll certainly be the best iteration of the film versions yet."
The third Downton Abbey film will see the original cast return including Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter and Laura Carmichael, while A New Era's Dominic West will also reprise his role as Guy Dexter. They will be joined by a host of new characters played by Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Simon Russell Beale, and Alessandro Nivola.
Details of the story have not yet been revealed, but Bonneville's positivity about it seems like a good sign. The actor also spoke of how it still surprises him that the franchise has become as beloved as it has since the show first premiered in 2010 because it didn't originally seem like it would.
"It never ceases to amaze me, it did when it first started in 2010 and here we are, 14 years later, we're making a third movie," he explains. "At least one of our producers said, 'well, it's never gonna last beyond seven episodes anyway so don't lose too much sleep about this', and here we are all those years later still together.
"What's been really interesting is there's a whole new generation of people watching it and still finding it engaging, and also what's been rather touching, particularly over the pandemic, [was] when people were stuck at home and they revisited a show that had finished five years before.
"Each of us have had lots of letters from people saying: 'I used to watch it with my Gran', or 'my son who is now married', or 'my husband, who's now passed on', or whatever. It had an emotional resonance for the period of time that it was on, and people find comfort in it, and revisited it like a warm bath.
"I'm not complaining because it's been a wonderful part of my life and we're filming the third film at the moment, it's a lovely coming together of people I care deeply about, and that's just the fictional characters."

Here’s why the SR-71 Blackbird SR-1 Ejection Seat had two loops on the D ring
SR-71 Blackbird
SR-1 Ejection Seat
Two loops on the D ring
SR-71 Blackbird
The SR-71, unofficially known as the “Blackbird,” was a long-range, Mach 3+, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft.
The first flight of an SR-71 took place on Dec. 22, 1964, and the first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., in January 1966.
The Blackbird was in a different category from anything that had come before. “Everything had to be invented. Everything,” Skunk Works legendary aircraft designer Kelly Johnson recalled in an interesting article appeared on Lockheed Martin website.
For instance, the Blackbird’s ejection seat (in the form of the Lockheed SR-1 ejection seat) had two loops on the D ring.
Why is that?
SR-1 Ejection Seat
The SR-1 ejection seat is a Lockheed design not much different from the Stanley designed Lockheed C-2 used in the very early A-12 and SR-71 Blackbirds (as can be seen in the cockpit of A-12 06925).
This print is available in multiple sizes from AircraftProfilePrints.com – CLICK HERE TO GET YOURS. SR-71A Blackbird 61-7972 “Skunkworks”
According to The Ejection Site, the D-ring at the front center of the SR-1 ejection seat is cable connected to an initiator under the seat pan.
The cable is spring-mounted to prevent injuries after ejection and before seat separation at which time the cable is severed. When pulled, the initiator gas is routed to the inertia reels to retract the crewman back upright. It is also routed to the foot restraint reels and via a quick disconnect fitting to the canopy removal system.
As the canopy is jettisoned, an initiator in the canopy system is actuated and gas from it is directed back into the seat via another quick disconnect to actuate the gas-operated sequencing system, and to fire the catapult after a 0.3-second delay to allow the canopy to clear the area.
Two loops on the D ring
SR-71 pilot Darryl Greenamyer was as short as Bob Gilliland (another Blackbird driver) was tall. They were both examples of above and under-the-average test pilots hired by Lockheed Skunk Works.
This model is available from AirModels – CLICK HERE TO GET YOURS.
As told by Donn A. Byrnes and Kenneth D. Hurley in their book Blackbird Rising: Birth of an Aviation Legend, when Darrell was placed in the cockpit and the depressurized simulated (this was done by pumping up his pressure suit to 3.5 psi over atmospheric pressure) …
His suit became so rigid that he could not reach the ejection seat loop mounted on the seat between his knees (The D ring) so they made it fit. The result was a second loop that raised above the initial loop.
As seen in the picture below.

Lonnie Beale's Rank
Disclaimer: For my tier list I’m basing this off of a one on one fight with no weapons or no outside interference. If a character has to rely on a weapon to win they’re ranked lower. If a character has to fight more than one person at a time, I’ll look at it on a case by case basis. Age, size and general background are factors that will be taken into consideration. Since a lot of those details are going to be up to interpretation as these are characters and not real people, feel free to share your own thoughts.
Let's start with the obvious assumptions by looking at Pam wanting her grandfather's gold. The Gold Standard in the US allowing the average person to get paper money in exchange for gold currency ended in the early 1930s. The technology that's used clearly indicates this takes place at least 20 years after 1933. Therefore, Pam wanting the gold would indicate that there's a different selling market for gold compared to her grandfather's era where a double eagle was only $20. Despite seeing posters for numerous rodeo events, the exact year is conveniently left out. If anything, we can make an argument that this movie takes place over the course of two years. The very first poster that we see is for a rodeo event in January. Unless we want to assume Lonnie only wants a job for about a month, this poster suggests that all rodeo events happen after the New Year. Because one of the Circle Z Jeeps that were proven to be from this movie hit the auction block, we know that they came out in 1965. Despite the posters having the first rodeo event being in January, it's very common for new cars to come out in the fall. A 1965 Jeep easily could've come out in the fall of 1964. The diet culture also reflects the time period Vera makes it a point to emphasize low caloric meals.
Lonnie's age is unknown despite getting a line that he was in the saddle before he could walk. However, Lonnie being a semi-famous bull rider at a professional level gives us some general assumptions. Like all sporting events and competitions there's an average age range that define's a peak competitor. With bull riding, you would be hard pressed to find a professional who started at 20 years old and can still consistently do it as a main source of income in their 30s. There are of course exceptions, but the general rule dictates that this sport is too physically demanding to do for a long period of time. In Lonnie's case he already had a season end because of an injury. This indicates that he's either nearing 30 or is already past 30. Even though Lonnie still kept in shape and had very high quality food by working at the Circle Z ranch, he still struggled to keep up mentally with his focus leaning towards Pam. Based on him suddenly ending his rodeo season because of a change in priority I would put Lonnie in his early 30s since a change like that indicates he was contemplating retiring altogether.
This is the perfect example of a fight that fits all of my criteria. A punch was intentionally thrown that was responded with an equally intentional blow. It's a one on one fight without any weapons and no one interfered until there was a clear end to the fight.
At this point in time we have no idea how this masked man was. Lonnie was able to hold his own as an equal. Until Pam interfered. She hit Lonnie so hard in the head he went limp and passed out. Because she interfered I have to throw this one out. Even if we use a hypothetical of what would've happened if she didn't hit Lonnie, we still have no way of knowing that Lonnie would've won.
This fight does count. No weapons were used. No one broke them up. A punch was thrown, and an attack was launched in response. Even though it wasn't a long fight, Lonnie still used skill to win. Brad isn't that much older than Lonnie to make a difference so I consider the two of them to be equal. Therefore, Lonnie winning gives him some points for his case.
There's a fantasy sequence of Lonnie winning a shoot out with Brad. It's still worth noting given the rivalry between the two, but it doesn't count since one it's a fantasy sequence and two this involved guns.
Another instance of a fight that doesn't count because Pam interfered. Lonnie basically had to fight off two guys at once without any weapons. Even though Stanley tried to help, he didn't make enough of an impact to Lonnie's fights. Pam interfering actively made Lonnie lose again because she kicked him in the leg by accident.
Lonnie had a gun pointed at him and managed to win without outside interference or get shot. That definitely gets extra points since we can assume the mask the guy has on isn't blocking/altering his vision. Lonnie didn't rely on a weapon of his own
We know absolutely nothing about Adolph outside of his name and that he's a cook. Therefore, I can't give Lonnie any extra points for beating someone that's on paper a better fighter.
The final fight and it's a shame Pam interfered because Lonnie had to fight a deputy sheriff. Sure he's a lot older than Lonnie, but he had a gun pointed at Lonnie and a lot of experience with fighting just being a law officer. Lonnie beating him on his own would've been a nice boost. Pam interfering means that unfortunately this fight doesn't count.
Lonnie is quite fit for a man his age. He hasn't hit his decline yet outside of the bull riding field. He would have to have a generally athletic build so he can have a better sense of balance. Balance is a key factor in fighting so he can still keep up with younger opponents. Another thing to consider is how his status changes throughout the movie. He starts off as just recently unemployed due to the seasonal nature of his work, then becomes a ranch worker with high end food only to quit and spend many months on the road without making any money. Sleeping in the elements and barely having money for food makes his win against Adolph and the deputy sheriff more impressive.
Despite being on the wrong side of 30, I still think Lonnie is in better fighting condition than the average person and put him in B tier. Pam interfering in his first two fights, in my opinion, actively caused him to lose. However, when you consider the general plot you know that Lonnie had to lose so the criminals' identities aren't revealed right away. Based on how he was fighting before Pam interfered, I personally think he would've won both of those fights. If he was able to win all of his fights without Pam interfering, I can see the argument of putting him in A tier.

i thought you were a bills fan? or are you a stefon diggs akgae
i had to look up what that is LOL and.. well. it's kinda complicated, i mean i guess. Nut like. (But*) (too lazy to backspace LMFAO) when i say i like teams.. i say like. U know. I like the team. I like the ppl that make up that team. And by ppl i rlly do mean ppl . I love stef, and I also love isiah Mckenzie, Gabe Davis, devin Singletary, Jordan poyer, etc. like. i hate when teams blow up. so like. am i loyal to teams (the big thing) nah, lol. But i'm loyal to the ppl who make up the team. I'd be more of a fan of Buffalo if the guys on the team i came here for were still there, but they're not. i love buffalo's spirit and their utilization of the cold. I think weather utilization is hilarious. I'm still gonna hope for good things for Josh but like. Yea, lol, I did get introduced to Buffalo thru stef and then fell in love with his team during that Era and now that the whole reason i first fell in love with them has moved ? im moving a lil too .
im not the biggest fan of football in general, it was always a bit boring to my very small attention span both watching and playing it. So I don't rlly always introduce myself as a football fan to ppl bcs a lot of me being a 'fan' is me playing it as background noise while i work out or smthing. it'll be a little dif if it was basketball bcs I pretty much root for any team that sucks in basketball. So like. I'm just kinda a fan to anything rlly. im very hesitant to be fully like. 110 percent into things sometimes (like how im saying smthimes instead of all the time when it probably is leaning more toward all the time). so like i mean. Yea i like stef, like how i liked Brad Beal and the older wiz at one point and then he moved weird and my beautiful Bonga and others broke up like. I stopped watching them for a bit but ill still root bcs they're still the wiz and i liked the wiz at one point and ill probably like them to the same amount I did p soon now that bilal is there and attitudes are changing and i can find more ppl to like and fall in love with again to make me actually like the team as a team again
#idk im weird abt stuff smtimes#i like personal stuff but like. i dont rlly always like attaching myself to just One person u know#ill still be there for the ppl but like. ppl plural#idk#i get a lot of hate smtimes for not just watching my hometown or not showing a lot of hometown proud#and it's like? i do watch thrm smtimes and i do show pride#but i hate doing things bcs 'u have to' or doing them All the Time#i like getting the full circle of things and when i pick up my pen i start with someone else and#expand from there#idk im jst kinda finnicky and odd abt stuff smtimes lol#like my name has jrue in it but like. i talk abt so many other guys#and ill talk abt jrue!#like. idk i just pick what i like move from there and ill still remember my roots n stuff n other experiences but#i just like attaching to the ones i like the best snd moving from there u know idk#LOL thank u for teaching me a new word tho it looks vry cool tbh !#ted tumbunity things#i like players and i sometimes use my liking of players to enjoy watching teams i dnt rlly like#like the celtics or warriors or smthing#but i genuinely did enjoy the bills when all my fav guys were on it and i could make more fav guys from my 1st fav guy#but like. that's all gone now bcs it's not players it's business and i dont like business. i fking cant stand business bros#so i move !

July 15, 1954: Blue Light Studio photo shoot.
Elvis' favorite clothing store in Memphis, the Lansky Bros, was at the same corner as the Blue Light Studio (130 Beale and Main St. Memphis, TN).
EP had his early professional photos, during SUN Records era, taken at the Blue Light Studio — from 1953 to 1954. In total around 2 or 3 photo sessions were held there with only a few photos taken, very few.
Then Elvis had the famous "Speer" photo session done by photographer William Speer, in July 1955 at Mr. Speer's studio (a different place in Memphis, TN). From then on, Elvis' professional pictures were taken by Hollywood photographers, during movies photo sessions, or when RCA and Colonel Parker made arrangements with a professional photographer being hired to meet Elvis some where and make some promotional pictures of him when needed - this actually happened a lot during the 50s (many different photo companies were hired to photograph Elvis Presley). Other than that, Elvis' pictures were taken onstage by newspaper/magazine's photographers (specially during the 50s) and by professional photographers hired by his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (specially during the 70s since Elvis apparently didn't like to pose for photo sessions anymore).
Note: The second photo of Elvis was probably taken outside the Blue Light Studio the same day the first picture was taken. Not sure, but his outfit matches. Photo by Margaret Sutton - ca. 1954.
Priscilla also had some portraits taken at the Blue Light Studio in the 60's.

Synopsis: A movie is filming on location in a house where seven occult-related murders were committed. The caretaker warns them not to mess with things they don’t understand, but rituals are reenacted anyway, that summon a ghoul from the nearby cemetery. Ghoulish shenanigans ensue.
Directed by: Paul Harrison

This episode, John Carradine, John Ireland, and Faith Domergue are making a movie in The House of Seven Corpses (1974). A couple of shambling ghouls – or are they zombies – make an entrance when they receive engraved invitations from the filmmakers. Or rather, rituals from the Tibetan Book of the Dead are performed as part of the movie being filmed. Surprise! Mayhem ensues as the cast and crew start dropping like flies, their demises mimicking those of the original occupants of the titular house. The House of Seven Corpses is not a great movie, or even a good movie, but there are some effective scenes, and the 70s Grue-Crew show some love for Faith and the two Johns.
At the time of this writing, The House of Seven Corpses (1974) is available to stream from Vudu, Tubi, Screambox, and PPV sources. The film is available as physical media on a standard Blu-ray formatted disc from Severin Films.
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. officially turning 25 today! wohooo😊 thought i’d re-introduce myself here.
hi! my name is aya. i live somewhere in southeast asia. when i’m not busy with real life and responsibilities, i like to draw, read fictional books (preferrably mystery, romance and everything set in the ww2 era), and i also love writing short poems on my phone.
i’ve always loved watching movies and series, but what always stands out for me is the instrumental scores. those kind of music that always capture so much emotions without words, i love it!!!💖 some of my favourites are Agape from If Beale Street Could Talk, Just Us from Soul, and September Song from Big Little Lies.
i’m also someone who tends to worry a lot, and going out by myself has always been a HUGE challenge, so i envy those my age who can travel abroad and be fearless with themselves. although i’m scared of going alone, one thing i’ve found comfort in is going to concerts while being surrounded by strangers. there’s something about singing together that feels reassuring, like even though our individual experiences are different, the song creates a safe space where we can all connect our feelings.
i can't, like seriously can not function in the morning without drinking a cup of tea. i have a Legally Blonde the musical made by a high school production saved in my laptop, and i like to watch it when i'm in a bad mood. i'm unhealthily obsessed with niki and steve rogers, i guess?🤭
AHH this feels like i’m oversharing already😆. hope you know me a little better than before though:). thanks for sticking with me on tumblr. now have fun and go treat yourself.✨
xo💖

OKAY WAIT I SAW UR TAG ABT TTPD - THOUGHTS??? FAV TRACK??? OVERALL RANKING COMPARED TO OTHER ALBUMS??? WE MUST DISCUSS!!!
i cant explain it but this album feels like an amalgamation of folklore and midnights, with the same 'tragic victorian' vibes as evermore... idk im just saying words but do u get it??? like i cant explain it but the fortnight mv has ivy energy to me... i think because ivy ive always associated with this movie, 'the world to come' (would highly recommend), which is mid-late victorian era and then the mv is obliously very heavilly inspired by the 1870s/80s, both in terms of aesthetics and the general theme of female hysteria and its 'treatments'...
it also has massive chloe beale vibes to me... she strikes me as such an annoying swiftie (i say this lovingly) and just the overall sound is something i think she would absolutely EAT UP... my babys such a hopeless romantic, what can i say...
honestly the general themes are kinda giving emily nelson... FLORIDA??? GUILTY AS SIN??? this woman needs her ass ATE
i should say that im making all these deductions having listened to only 1/4 of the songs so far... i also really hope that i havent overstepped the mark and that you care about this as much as i apparently do lmao...
NO BUT I WOULD LOVE TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT MY TTPD OPINIONS BECAUSE ALL I DID YESTERDAY WAS PLAY TEARS OF THE KINGDOM AND LISTEN TO THE ANTHOLOGY ON LOOP
It is stunning, I've so many people be like "I don't like it 😭" and it's like??? Are we even listening to the same album??? This is a masterpiece what are you talking about??? It is solidly in my top 3, I think my album order is probably something like this now (Ana don't look):
folklore
The Tortured Poets Department
Speak Now TV
evermore
Midnights
Reputation
Red TV
1989 TV
Fearless TV
Debut
Lover
As for favourite songs, is all of them an answer??? 😂😂 No but seriously, it is headed for being my 2nd no skip album of TSwifts collection, but top contenders for favourite include:
loml
I Can Do It With A Broken Heart
Florida!!! (ft. Florence + The Machine)
Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?
thanK you aIMee
Cassandra
Peter
The Manuscript
But Daddy I Love Him
I have been saying the same thing!!!! It's giving folklore and Midnights with a touch of Reputation and I am LIVING for it 😍😍😍 no but you're so right, honestly the imagrey of this album has me in a chokehold, Cassandra has scratched my mythology hyperfixation itch so good, I feel like I could spend hours just analysing every song. It is giving Victorian vibes, that gothic traditionilist style of writing and metaphors for feeling 'other' displayed through monsters and magic, the elements of tragedy and fatalism UGH I'm so in love with it 😭😭😭
Chloe Beale is absolutely the annoying swiftie (affectionate) archetype, and I love that for her 😂😍 she would be forcing Beca to listen to each and every single one and watching her the whole time to make sure she was appreciating it (Beca likes to deny she's a swiftie but has been known to absolutely drool over the production of some of the albums in secret)
YES!!! Biggggg Emily Nelson vibes, Whose Afraid Of Little Old Me is very Emily coded to me dfklgjdlkg
There is no need to apologise, I am fully obsessed with TTPD and I will happily ramble about it on main with no shame 😭😭 YOU GOTTA HMU WHEN YOU'VE LISTENED TO THE WHOLE THING, ALL 31 SONGS
#max rambles a lot#laguna-lesbian#no but ttpd is such an exquisite piece of art and i will not hear any slander honestly#literally the only valid criticism i've heard is that it's 'very heterosexual' and y'know... fair 😂😂😂

tbh i can’t even imagine sharon becoming sharon taylor like… sharon watts? old-school, iconic, a legacy. sharon mitchell? iconic. chronically ambiguous. are we talking 90s sharon or 2010s sharon? keeps people on their toes. sharon rickman? shannis win, automatically iconic. sharon beale? a reminder of one of her messiest eras. iconic. but sharon taylor… i’m sorry but that’s just some random woman on the street
#tragic texts#eastendersposting#this isn’t even an anti-sheanu post i couldn’t care less about them sorry but#just a bit boring innit#also tumblr almost wouldn’t let me post this. it really told me to stfu

Did you know two Buick Nailhead V8 engines were used to start the SR-71 Mach 3+ plane because the Blackbird didn’t have a starter?
The Blackbird
Cool Video Explains how SR-71 Blackbird’s J58 Turbo-Ramjet Engine Works
The speed of the SR-71 exceeded 2,000 mph. Other planes of the era could, in theory, approximate that speed but only in short, after-burner-driven bursts. The Blackbird maintained a record-setting speed for hours at a time. At such velocity, friction with the atmosphere generates temperatures that would melt the conventional airframe.

When Kelly Johnson was designing the A-12/YF-12 /M-21 and SR-71 he didn’t want the weight to be added for a starter on the airplane. He said the more it weights the more fuel it will need. It was decided that two Buick Nailhead V8 engines would be able to do the job.

SR-71 Blackbird AG330 start cart
Not only starting the Blackbird, the fastest airplane in the world, was exciting, but also sounded like the Indianapolis 500 was getting the SR-71 ready to fly thanks to the two V8 engines as you can hear in the following video.
youtube
According to Autoevolution, for this purpose alone, two of either above-mentioned Nailhead V8s were fused together via a common transmission and drive shaft to work in tandem, then placed inside a metal housing mounted on four wheels with a trailer hitch and dubbed the AG330 “start cart.” The resulting Chimera was attached directly to the Blackbird’s two engines. Using the combined drive shaft, the two V8s spun the turbines to the point they could sustain compression by themselves. Nailhead V8s served as impromptu starter motors for the SR-71 and its cousins, the A-12 Archangel and the YF-12 fighter, until at least 1970, when the bulk of them were replaced with Chevy 454 V8s.

Phased out
These were also phased out when a new, quieter pneumatic system was implemented to do the same job as the start cart at most airbases on US soil the Blackbird and company operated from. Some remained for longer at auxiliary bases abroad, including a handful with the original Buick Nailheads, until the Blackbird and all its variants was retired in 1999.
