This one is very different from my usual style, but I had a lot of fun painting it! This as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday a couple of months ago, created while listening to Moomin audiobooks. He's a huge fan of swimming and the seaside, and I wanted to paint something that reminded me of him.

2024 may 6 // Spending vacation in Greece of course means plenty of visits to the beaches. I’m actually not interested in going into the water, but stay on the beach looking for beautiful stones and sea shells instead. Here are some stones from my batch from yesterday when we visited the beach in Loutraki:

I truly love the shapes, colours and patterns of these stones. Of course, once you take them out of the sea water and they dry, they always look dull. So I washed them, let them dry in the sun and then painted them with transparent nail polish 😁

Beach Pebbles: Versatile Solutions for Modern Landscaping
Tumblr media
Beach pebbles are becoming an increasingly popular choice in modern landscaping due to their versatility, aesthetic appeal, and practical benefits. These smooth, rounded stones are available in a variety of colors, sizes, and textures, making them suitable for numerous landscaping applications. Here’s how beach pebbles can enhance your contemporary landscape design and contribute to a sustainable and stylish outdoor space.
Aesthetic and Functional Uses
Stylish Garden Paths
Beach pebbles can create elegant and functional garden paths that guide visitors through your outdoor space. Their smooth texture makes them comfortable to walk on, and their natural appearance complements both modern and traditional garden designs. By choosing pebbles in colors that match or contrast with your garden's plantings and other elements, you can achieve a cohesive and visually appealing look.
Innovative Ground Cover
Using beach pebbles as ground cover is an excellent way to reduce maintenance while enhancing the appearance of your garden. They suppress weed growth, help retain soil moisture, and prevent erosion. Additionally, beach pebbles provide a polished and tidy look to flower beds, tree bases, and other garden areas. Mixing different sizes and colors can add texture and depth, creating a more dynamic landscape.
Enhancing Water Features
Beach pebbles are ideal for use in water features such as ponds, fountains, and streams. They add a natural and serene aesthetic while also improving their functionality. The pebbles help stabilize the soil and prevent erosion around the water feature, and their smooth surfaces create a soothing sound as water flows over them. This combination of visual and auditory appeal enhances the overall tranquility of your garden.
Practical Advantages
Erosion Control
Beach pebbles are highly effective in controlling soil erosion, particularly on slopes and areas with heavy rainfall. Their weight and stability help to hold the soil in place, preventing it from being washed away. This not only maintains the integrity of your landscape but also protects nearby waterways from sediment pollution.
Low Maintenance Landscaping
One key benefit of using beach pebbles in landscaping is their low maintenance requirements. Unlike grass lawns or other ground covers that require regular watering, mowing, and fertilizing, beach pebbles remain attractive and functional with minimal upkeep. This makes them a practical and cost-effective choice for modern gardens.
Temperature Moderation
Beach pebbles help to moderate soil temperature by providing a layer of insulation. During hot weather, they prevent the soil from overheating, protecting plant roots from excessive heat. In cooler climates, they retain warmth, extending the growing season for certain plants. This temperature moderation promotes healthier plant growth and reduces the need for artificial heating or cooling.
Eco-Friendly Benefits
Water Conservation
Beach pebbles contribute to water conservation by reducing the need for irrigation. This is especially important in drought-prone areas where water is a limited resource. By covering large areas with pebbles instead of grass or other water-intensive plants, you can significantly lower your water usage and support sustainable landscaping practices.
Reduced Chemical Use
Using beach pebbles helps to minimize the need for chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Their natural properties aid in weed suppression and soil health, reducing the environmental impact associated with chemical use. This contributes to a healthier ecosystem in your garden and beyond.
Conclusion
Beach pebbles offer versatile solutions for modern landscaping, combining aesthetic beauty with practical benefits. Their ability to enhance garden paths, ground covers, and water features, along with their low maintenance requirements and eco-friendly advantages, make them an excellent choice for contemporary landscape designs. By incorporating beach pebbles into your outdoor space, you can create a stylish, sustainable, and serene environment that reflects the best of modern landscaping practices.

Bonding Beautifully: Choosing the Best Landscape Adhesive for Your Project
Tumblr media
In landscape design, few elements are as versatile and visually striking as river rocks, stones and Mexican beach pebbles. These natural stones add texture, color, and character to outdoor spaces, elevating the aesthetic appeal of gardens, pathways, and water features. Whether used to create a tranquil streambed or to define borders and accents, river rocks and beach pebbles are favored for their enduring beauty and ability to complement various design styles.
However, achieving lasting beauty in landscape design involves more than just arranging stones; it requires proper installation and secure bonding to ensure durability and longevity. This is where landscape adhesives come into play. Choosing the suitable adhesive is crucial for ensuring that your landscaping project looks stunning and withstands the test of time.
This comprehensive guide will explore the importance of landscape adhesives, factors to consider when selecting the best adhesive for your project, and top recommendations to help you bond your landscape elements beautifully.
The Importance of Landscape Adhesives
Landscape adhesives are crucial for securing river rocks, Mexican beach pebbles, and other hardscape materials, preventing shifting and erosion. They enhance visual appeal, safety, and stability, especially in high-traffic areas. By effectively bonding stones together and to the substrate, they ensure design integrity, withstand environmental factors, and minimize weed growth for cleaner pathways and garden borders.
Factors to Consider When Choosing Landscape Adhesives
Compatibility with Materials
Select an adhesive that is compatible with the materials you're bonding. Consider the porosity, texture, and composition of the stones and the substrate surface to ensure optimal adhesion.
Strength and Durability
Look for adhesives that offer high bonding strength and long-term durability, capable of withstanding outdoor conditions and temperature fluctuations without deteriorating or weakening over time.
Flexibility
Choose adhesives with a degree of flexibility to accommodate natural movement and expansion of the landscape elements, minimizing the risk of cracking or dislodgement.
Weather Resistance
Opt for adhesives resistant to water, UV rays, and temperature extremes, providing reliable performance in various climatic conditions and seasons.
Ease of Application
Consider the adhesive's ease of application and curing time, ensuring that it fits within your project timeline and allows for efficient installation.
