2024 may 6 // Spending vacation in Greece of course means plenty of visits to the beaches. I’m actually not interested in going into the water, but stay on the beach looking for beautiful stones and sea shells instead. Here are some stones from my batch from yesterday when we visited the beach in Loutraki:
I truly love the shapes, colours and patterns of these stones. Of course, once you take them out of the sea water and they dry, they always look dull. So I washed them, let them dry in the sun and then painted them with transparent nail polish 😁

Today we celebrate the memory of the Venerable Patapius of Thebes. Saint Patapius was born at Thebes into a pious Christian family. Reaching the age of maturity, he scorned the vanities of the world and so went into the Egyptian desert where he became known for his ascetic deeds. Though he wished to dwell in silence, people began to come to him for advice. He went eventually to Constantinople, where he obtained a cell at the city wall, near the Blachernae church. But here, too, he quickly became known. The sick began to throng about, and he having been vouchsafed the gift of healing, began to help all the needy. After a life adorned with virtue and miracles, Saint Patapius fell asleep in the Lord and was buried in the church of Saint John the Baptist. May he intercede for us always + #saint #patapius #patapios #thebes #egypt #corinth #corinthian #monastery #loutraki #greece #saintoftheday #hermit #orthodox #saintoftheday Source: https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2020/12/08/103494-venerable-patapius-of-thebes (at Loutrákion, Greece) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl4axNyrsjN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

2023 nov 16 // I finally finished my framed assemblage:
It’s now hanging on the wall I call ”wall of curiosities”, in our new apartment.
Things that I found on the streets of Athens in Greece were the minion on the left, the white & black espresso machine on the right, and the blue plastic action figure. Also the two pieces of tiles.
The brown piece of stone with a hole in it, above the minion, was something I found in the grass in our old hometown. I thought it looked beautiful and thought of turning into a necklace. But as you can see it ended up in this frame instead. And the frame is actually a black wooden tray 😄
There’s a tiny bit of green beach glass which I found on the beach in Loutraki, and finally the prime piece is the stone with a cross. My friend Polyxeni found it on a beach on the island of Paros. She’s had it for a long time but decided to gift it to me ❤️

Loutraki to Napflion
A later start this morning (the hotel wouldn’t serve us breakfast before 8am). Today was a tough but beautiful day. Just short of 100km and 1600m of climbing, most of which was before lunch.
We cycled out through Loutraki, which actually looked quite nice and then crossed the Corinth canal which was amazing!
Out of town we started our first of two testy climbs. Thankfully we had coffee between the two climbs because the second climb was pretty unrelenting.
After that it was quite a nice descent and then on to Epidavros for lunch. Epidavros is an awesome site with the worlds most famous and best preserved ancient theatre. After a delicious picnic lunch we changed out of our bike shoes and went for a wander around the site.
The ride to the hotel from there was great, a bit over 30km - a lot if it downhill, Charlie and I tucked on the back of Jose, we covered it in no time.
Napflio is a really nice town with an awesome looking castle and a fort out on an island. It’s a shame we roll out again in the morning because it would be great to explore.
After our post ride rose we headed to our room for showers and clothes washing and Jose changed over another of my tyres (apparently they were pretty bad). We then had time for a quick walk before aperitivos and the briefing for tomorrow and then onto dinner, but not before a nightcap with a few of the diehards! Such a tough life 😉
