Angela Lansbury & Beatrice "Bea" Arthur: Angela and Bea first met in 1965 during rehearsals for the production of Mame, in which Angela played the titular Mame, and Bea her "bosom buddy" Vera. Both women would earn Tony Awards for their iconic, never-to-be-bested portrayals. They remained lifelong friends for the next five decades until Bea's death in 2009, where Angela hosted her memorial service at the Majestic Theatre. As the story goes, Angela's legendary Jessica B. Fletcher is named "B" for Bea.

Ann Reinking and Bebe Neuwirth: Forever linked by dance and the great Bob Fosse, Ann and Bebe met in passing during the special 3,389th performance of A Chorus Line, but would not come to know each other closer until Sweet Charity, where Annie took over Charity for Debbie Allen during the run, and Bebe played Nickie (Tony Award). They remained dear friends until Annie's death in 2020, working together in Fosse, and of course, the 1995 revival of Chicago that persists to this day.

Carol Burnett & Julie Andrews: Though they may have never starred in an official Broadway show together, Carol and Julie are too iconic to pass up here. They met in 1961 and are both still alive, kicking, and enduring friends. They did a series of television and stage specials together, including Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall (1963, Emmy Award), Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center (1971) and Julie & Carol: Together Again (1989). They also both starred in Putting it Together as the part, one after the other. And as a story goes, Carol and Julie were "caught" kissing as a prank on their friend Mike Nichols, but were instead discovered by Lady Bird Johnson.

"As we sat in the darkened hotel hallway on the sofa in front of a bank of three elevators waiting for him, we started to feel rather foolish, and we thought 'Let’s do something to make him laugh.' We decided to pretend we were making out," she said at the time. "He’d called our room and said he was coming right down, so we thought, well, the first person off the elevator would be Mike. But it wasn’t." - Julie Andrews recounts the story to Oprah magazine.

Chita Rivera & Gwen Verdon: Before there was Annie and Bebe, there was Chita and Gwen. The original Velma and Roxie duo in the 1975 Chicago, Chita and Gwen remained friends until Gwen's death in 2000. As Chita recounts, Gwen Verdon was the first person to tell her she had her own talent and didn't need to be her understudy. Years later, they were starring together in Chicago. Chita and Gwen shared the role of Charity (alongside many others) in the benefit concert production of Sweet Charity in 1998. It would be Gwen's final stage appearance. Though Fosse brought his own drama, Chita and Gwen never fell out.

Donna Murphy & Marin Mazzie: Donna and Marin met while doing the Passion workshop in 1993, and their friendship endures to this day, despite Marin's death in 2018. After all, "and should you die tomorrow, another thing I see: your love will live in me." Marin sang at Donna's daughter's christening. Donna sang at Marin's remembrance concert. She still writes her memorial posts to Marin each year on the anniversary of her passing. Donna played Mother in the earliest workshop of Ragtime, before Marin took over and made that role what it will always be.

Kelli O'Hara & Victoria Clark: Our first and only mother-daughter duo, though who is mother and who is daughter is up for debate. Kelli and Vicki met playing mother and daughter in the 2005 The Light in the Piazza as Clara and Margaret Johnson. They remain dear friends to this day and the only pair alive, well, and not dangerously close to death... Kelli and Vicki, trained opera singers, also reunited for Dido and Aeneas in 2016. Their friendship has survived a few awkward situations, such as being up against each other (alongside fellow Piazza star Celia Keenan-Bolger, and that's a story in and of itself) for the role of Nellie Forbush in South Pacific.

Lucy in Beverly Hills

Part 1 ~ The Cast

Although thematically the shows created by Lucille Ball were worlds apart from the down-home humor at the Clampett Mansion, there were artistic and creative commonalities that are worth discussing.

"The Beverly Hillbillies" ran from 1962 to 1971, while "The Lucy Show" ran from 1962 to 1968, both on CBS TV. Interiors were filmed at General Service Studios, where "I Love Lucy" began filming until it moved to larger quarters.

Like Jed Clampett, Lucy Carmichael and Lucy Carter are single parents, raising teenage girls, a popular trope of the 1960s and '70s.

The Desilu sitcoms "I Love Lucy," "Make Room for Daddy," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Gomer Pyle USMC" are all related shows with characters in common much in the same way the Henning sitocms, "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Petticoat Junction" and "Green Acres" were related. Interestingly, "The Beverly Hillbillies" was mentioned during two episodes of "The Danny Thomas Show", in 1963 and 1964.

Jed Clampett's fortune is made from striking oil. In the 1960 Broadway musical, Lucille Ball played a wildcatter looking to find black gold. On "I Love Lucy," new neighbors the O'Briens move from Texas, where they made their fortune in oil. Soon the Ricardos and Mertzes have dreams of riches from Texas tea.

Animal trainers Frank and Juanita Inn worked on both shows, as well as on "Here's Lucy."

Both shows went from black and white to color in October 1965. Although "The Lucy Show" had filmed its second season in color (1963-1964), CBS declined to air it in color.

Editor Dann Cahn (1963 to 1964), was also an editor for "I Love Lucy" and many Desilu shows.

Shared Casting

Their “Beverly Hillbillies” characters are in parentheses, followed by their Lucycom / Desilu credits.

Irene Ryan (Granny) performed with Lucille Ball on a May 3, 1949 episode of "The Bob Hope Radio Show." In 1963, Ryan and Ball both appeared on CBS specials featuring their TV shows.

Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) appeared in a 1958 episode of "The Westinghouse-Desilu Playhouse" introduced by Desi Arnaz. He appeared with Lucille Ball on several CBS specials and numerous award shows.

Donna Douglas (Ellie Mae Clampett) performed in a 1960 episode of Desilu's helicopter series "Whirlybirds." She was seen with Lucille Ball on a 1963 CBS special "The Stars' Address".

Max Baer Jr. (Jethro Clampett) was seen with Lucille Ball on a 1963 CBS special "The Stars' Address".

Raymond Bailey (Millburn Drysdale) never acted opposite Lucille Ball, but was seen in episodes of Desilu's "The Whirlybirds," "The Untouchables," "The Ann Sothern Show" and "Westinghouse-Desilu Playhouse" introduced by Desi Arnaz.

The bankers of "The Lucy Show" (Theodore J. Mooney) and "The Beverly Hillbillies" (Millburn Drysdale) were remarkably similar: loud, quick-tempered, miserly, abusive to their secretaries, and willing to grovel and sacrifice their dignity to land a big account. 

Stretch (Duke) the Clampett's lethargic bulldog, also played Thunderbolt on "Kiddie Parties, Inc." (1963) on "The Lucy Show." Stretch was one of Frank Inn's biggest stars.

Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane Hathaway) played the Cockney maid who teaches Lucy Ricardo ow to curtsy in "Lucy Meets the Queen" (1955). She also appeared in the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz film Forever Darling, again playing a maid. Kulp returned to Desilu for a 1959 special with Milton Berle and Lucille Ball and a 1962 episode of “The Lucy Show” where she played Navy Officer Jane Corey.

Miss Jane's relationship to Mr. Drysdale was not dissimilar to Lucy Carmichael's relationship to her banker boss, Mr. Mooney.

Bea Benadaret (Cousin Pearl Bodine) first starred with Lucille Ball on her radio series “My Favorite Husband” (1948-1951), primarily as best friend Iris Atterbury. Benadaret was Ball’s first choice to play Ethel Mertz on “I Love Lucy,” but she was already contracted to play Blanche Morton on “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show”, another best friend character. Ball still managed to cast her as a one-off character, Miss Lewis, an elderly spinster, on season one of “I Love Lucy.”

Frank Wilcox (John Brewster) appeared with Lucille Ball in the films Her Husband’s Affairs (1947) and The Fuller Brush Girl (1950). He played Frank Spaulding, owner of the Connecticut house in "Lucy Wants To Move To The Country" (1957).

Elvia Allman (Elverna Bradshaw) was heard with Lucille Ball on “My Favorite Husband” before playing the strident Candy Factory Forewoman on “I Love Lucy.” Allman returned to the show as one of Minnie Finch’s neighbors in “Fan Magazine Interview” (1954) and prim magazine reporter Nancy Graham in “The Homecoming” (1955). She made two appearances on “The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour“ - first as Ida Thompson, Westfield’s PTA director, then as Milton Berle’s private secretary. Allman would also be seen on two episodes of “The Lucy Show" as a customer in a department store and the manager of an employment agency. Allman’s final screen appearance with Lucille Ball reunited her with Bob Hope: “Bringing Back Vaudeville” in 1971. For Desilu, Allman was seen on “December Bride” (1954-59), and “The Ann Sothern Show” (1958).

Milton Frome (Lawrence Chapman) played Sam, who Lucy Ricardo tried to fix up with Dorothy, in “The Matchmaker” (1954).  He played Milton Berle's agent in a "Lucy Saves Milton Berle" (1965). He also played a waiter in a 1972 episode of “Here’s Lucy” starring Donny Osmond.

Ray Kellogg (Gate Guard / Police Officer) played the barking Assistant Director (“Roll ‘em!”) in “Ricky’s Screen Test” (1954) and later appeared in “Bullfight Dance” (1955). He was seen on 7 episodes of “The Lucy Show” and two episodes of “Here’s Lucy.” In many of his appearances he played policemen or guards, just as he does here.

Charles Lane (Foster Phinney / Homer Bedloe / Billy Hacker) appeared in 7 films with Lucille Ball between 1933 and 1949. He was also heard on her radio show "My Favorite Husband". On "I Love Lucy," he played 4 characters and 2 more on "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour." He was cast as banker Barnsdahl on "The Lucy Show," but was released after 4 episodes so that Ball could hire Gale Gordon. He went from Desilu to Hooterville with his role of Homer Bedloe on "Petticoat Junction," which he also plays on "The Beverly Hillbillies".

Phil Silvers (Shifty Shafer aka Honest John) gave Lucille Ball a cameo on his show "Sergeant Bilko" in 1959. In 1963, Ball and Silvers performed the classic ‘Slowly I Turn’ sketch for “CBS Opening Night.” In December 1966, Silvers guest-starred as Oliver Kasten in “Lucy and the Efficiency Expert”. A year later Ball and Silvers both had bit parts in the film A Guide for the Married Man (1967). 

Roy Roberts (John Cushing / Judge) appeared with Lucille Ball in Miss Grant Takes Richmond (1949). On “The Lucy Show” he first appeared as a Navy Admiral in “Lucy and the Submarine” before creating the role of Mr. Cheever, the president of Mr. Mooney’s bank, a recurring character he played through the end of the series. On “Here’s Lucy” he played the Superintendent of the Air Force Academy in season two’s two-part opener.  He also played doctors in “Lucy and the Astronauts” (1971) and in "Lucy is N.G. as an R.N." (1973).  

Shirley Mitchell (Opal Clampett) became friends with Lucille Ball in the late 1940s when she was featured in 4 episodes of “My Favorite Husband.” Mitchell reunited with Lucille Ball on “I Love Lucy” playing Marion Strong, member of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League. She also played Mae Belle Jennings on "Petticoat Junction."

Joi Lansing (Gladys Flatt) first worked with Lucille Ball on “I Love Lucy” in “Desert Island” (1956) and returned to play Miss Long Neck in "Lucy Wants a Career" (1959). She did an episode of Desilu's "The Untouchables" and appeared for Desi Arnaz on an episode of "The Mothers-in-Law".

Alan Reed Jr. (Sheldon Epps / Buddy) is probably best remembered as the voice of Fred Flintstone, acting opposite Bea Benadaret (Cousin Pearl). He was heard with Lucille Ball on "My Favorite Husband" (1949). In 1963 he played a café owner in “Lucy Visits the White House”. In 1967, he made an appearance on the Desi Arnaz series “The Mothers-in-Law”. 

Most of the principal cast of "The Flintstones" (1960-1966) appeared on "The Beverly Hillbillies": Bea Benadaret (Betty), Alan Reed Jr. (Fred), and Mel Blanc (Barney) all appeared on the show. Jean Vander Pyl did not act on "The Beverly Hillbillies," but did appear on its sister show "Petticoat Junction" and voiced Maw on the cartoon "The Hillbilly Bears" (1966). All four also worked with Lucille Ball on radio and/or television. There was also an episode of "The Flintstones" titled "The Bedrock Hillbillies" (above) featuring animated characters named Granny and Jethro Hatrock with voice talent Howard Morris, John Stephenson, and June Foray, all of whom also worked with Lucille Ball.

Richard Deacon (Dr. Klinger / Mr. Brubaker) made two guest star appearances on Desilu's “December Bride” in 1956 in one of which he played Desi Arnaz’s butler. It’s not surprising that he was cast as Tallulah Bankhead’s butler Winslow in “The Celebrity Next Door,” a 1957 episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”  In 1963 he played Harvey Rittenhouse in the Ball / Hope film Critic’s Choice. In October 1964, Deacon and Lucille Ball both played themselves on “Bob Hope Presents The Chrysler Theatre: Have Girls, Will Travel”.  He was employed again by Desi Sr. as a regular on “The Mothers-in-Law” (1968-69).  He was seen on two episodes of "Here's Lucy."

Paul Winchell (Grandpa Winch) was just 40 years old when he donned old age make-up to play Grandpa Winch in "Home for Christmas" (S1;E13). Four years later he was aged again to play Doc Porter on a two-part episode of "The Lucy Show" set in a the small town of Bancroft.

Mary Wickes (Adaline Ashley) was one of Lucille Ball's best friends of screen. She appeared on "I Love Lucy," "The Lucy Show," and "Here's Lucy," in addition to many other TV specials alongside Ball. The 1967 episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies" Wickes appeared on was aired between two of her "Lucy Show" appearances and featured Gail Bonney, who was seen on "I Love Lucy" and "The Lucy Show."

Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor (Oliver and Lisa Douglas) ~ were visitors to Beverly Hills from Hooterville, but both stars were also favorites of Lucille Ball. Gabor appeared in two episodes of "Here's Lucy", one as herself, and Albert played himself in a 1973 episode. In 1950, he co-starred with Lucille Ball in The Fuller Brush Girl. 

Star Casting

John Wayne made a cameo appearance on "The Beverly Hillbillies". When asked how he wanted to be paid, he is best remembered answering back with: "Give me a fifth of bourbon--that'll square it." Wayne appeared as himself on "I Love Lucy" (1955) and "The Lucy Show" (1966). His uncredited cameo on "The Indians Are Coming" (S5;E20) was aired in 1967.

Sammy Davis Jr. (Sergeant Patrick Muldoon) made two appearances on the series during November 1968 episodes set in NYC. Although he plays a character here (an Irish cop!), he played himself on "Here's Lucy" in September 1970. His first "Hillbillies" appearance also features Lucy's friend and co-star Phil Silvers as Shifty Shafer (aka Honest John), a recurring character that was seen in eight episodes.

Impressionist Rich Little played himself in the season nine opener of "The Beverly Hillbillies." Mr. Drysdale convinces him to impersonate President Richard Nixon over the telephone to fool Jed. Nixon was one of Little's most popular impressions. When he played himself on a 1971 episode of "Here's Lucy," Nixon wasn't mentioned, but he did do his impression of John Wayne (see above).

Hedda Hopper played herself in "Hedda Hopper's Hollywood" (S3;E4) in 1964, an episode named after her newspaper column and television specials, one of which featured Lucille Ball. That same 1960 special featured Gloria Swanson, who did a cameo as herself in a 1966 episode titled "The Gloria Swanson Story" (S5;E12). Curiously, Hopper played herself in a 1955 episode of "I Love Lucy" titled "The Hedda Hopper Story." An episode of "The Lucy Show" titled "Lucy and the Lost Star" was intended for Swanson, but the lost star eventually cast was Joan Crawford.

Robert Cummings appeared as himself in "The Race for Queen" (S2;E19) playing the celebrity judge of the Queen of Beverly Hills beauty contest. He was known as Bob Collins on "The Bob Cummings Show" (aka "Love That Bob!"), which ran from 1955 to 1959. The same year it ended he played himself on a 1959 episode of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" set in Japan. He reprised the character of Bob Collins on a 1972 episode of "Here’s Lucy” (above) and returned the following season for another episode as a different Bob. His sitcom had featured many of the same actors as "The Beverly Hillbillies" and various Lucycoms, but especially Joi Lansing, Nancy Kulp, and Elvia Allman. Cummings' appearance on "Hillbillies" is primarily attributable to the fact that BH creator Paul Henning produced "The Bob Cummings Show"!

Tumblr isn't letting me reblog right now so I'm just going to write an original post. Nothing to say except I hope the next Nightwing writer completely ignores Tom Taylor's run, I mean doesn't even acknowledge it, just picks up with Dick Grayson putting a picture of Ric and Bea into a box, immediately followed by Donna Troy and Victor Stone frantically knocking on his window like "space tennis mystery, please say you're not busy!" & off we go for like four issues before they return and we have our title character rebuilding his civilian cast in an anti-corruption arc that highlights the character of the city by featuring people who earn their livings from the city's casinos and boardwalk, and then of course the city gets wrecked again because I'm realistic about what DC will do to my boy. After that though there can be a movement to fund reconstruction by selling city renaming rights, opposed by people who care about the "whaling town" history, maybe with some angry ghosts, many directions this could go.

The dark spots underneath her eyes a clear sign she was tired and not getting much sleep. You felt sorry for her but then again she's the one that refuses to take a break.

" can you leave me alone please, why do you always have to be so clingy" she huffed before turning back to her work. Your jaw dropped, you looked at her in disbelief. She hasn't shown you any attention in days and now your the clingy one. Your body couldn't move. You were looking at her and the computer screen. She was planning an annual villager party. There would be all the lords and a couple villagers at the castle tonight.

A smirked immediately painted your lips as an idea came into your head. You were going to make alcina jealous. If she doesn't want to show you attention and love you'll find someone to do it. Then she'll know to cherish what she has.

The morning went by smoothly and it was now evening. There was maids rushing everywhere to make sure things were in order and how alcina wanted them. The girls were dressed in beautiful black dresses but you haven't spotted alcina yet. There was still quite some time before the event started and neither Donna, Karl or mother miranda had arrived yet.

You used the time to get dressed. You decided to wear a dress alcina had gotten for you a long time ago but you never had to courage to wear it. You did your hair in a messy bun and threw on a pair of heels. Looking at yourself in the mirror you smiled confidently, you looked absolutely gorgeous. You heard a squeal from Daniela downstairs and you knew immediately that Donna had arrived which meant so have mother miranda, you weren't sure if Karl had arrived yet but the party starts when mother miranda arrives. You looked at yourself one last time before making your way outside. You stood above the balcony and looked down at everyone.

You saw the girls with Donna and Angie happily talking and slightly dancing. Then you saw Karl trying to hug alcina but she pushed him away growling while glaring at him. You giggled alittle before you took in how alcina was dressed. She looked absolutely breath talking, as always obviously. She was dressed in a beautiful black dress similar to the white one she usually wears. Her hair was in its usual curl and tuck hairstyle.

If you weren't on a mission or rather angry at her from early you'd fall for her charm. Bedside her was mother miranda, dressed in her usual attire only difference was she had on her golden masquerade raven mask. You looked across the room to see a beautiful woman. She instantly caught your eye. She was wearing a long sleeve black dress the showed off her collar bones perfectly. She was also wearing a mask like miranda but it was red. Her eye makeup was flawless i made her eyes pop. You smiled knowing that she was the one.

You slowly made your way downstairs taking your time to walk on each step. Your heels clicking against the wood, turning everyone's attention to you. When alcinas gaze met yours you could see her pupils dilate, her eyes raked up your body, drinking you in. You almost melted at the way she looked at you. You looked over at your target and saw that she was eyeing you intensely. You felt hot and bothered.

As you got to the end of the staircase you gaved miranda a curtsy and she returned it. Her face was blank but you can see the smile in her eyes. You glanced over at alcina who was trying her best to not pull your into a room and start a make out session. You gaved her a dirty look before scoffing and walking over to the lady.

You could feel alcinas eyes burning into your skin. You smiled at the lady and stopped right in front of her. She took off her mask and smirked. She was more beautiful in person.

" what brings such a pretty lady like you to my feet tonight" she spoke in a sultry tone. You couldn't help the blush that took over your face, it was embarrassing how she already had an effect on you. Alcina was eyeing the entire conversation, she couldn't even pay close attention to what miranda was saying. Her eyes were like lasers towards you.

The lady took your hand in hers and kissed it while keeping eye contact. You felt your stomach do flips and jumps. This is the attention you've been craving from alcina all week, and now your getting it from someone else it feels weird but amazing. If you and alcina weren't a thing you'd definitely go for this lady, but God knows you love alcina too much for that.

You giggled as she left one last kiss on your arm before kissing your cheek. Alcina was boiling with rage. All she thought of was slicing the woman to ribbons. How dare she touch you in such way. " Yes I am actually but I'm from further up south where mother miranda used to live" she said. That's where the accent is from. Half Romanian half European, makes a perfect accent. South villagers are trouble. All they have is their pretty accent and face but their heart is cold.

She intertwined your hand with hers and leaded you to the bar. The both if you talked and drinked. The entire time alcina kept her eyes on you. After a while you needed to use the bathroom so you got up and left. Rose was far too busy flirting with another woman to notice your sudden absence. And honestly you didn't care,you just wanted to teach alcina a lesson on how she should always give you attention. Which in her book is pretty childish of you.

You entered the bathroom and thank God it was empty. On the inside you could hear how loud people were talking and how loud the music was being played. You fixed your dress and noticed your lip stick was smudged slightly, you walked over to the tissue stand and pulled off a piece. When you turned around your soul almost left your body completely. Standing before you was alcina.... and she did not look happy at all.

Her eyes were a bright yellow and her pupils were dilated. There were lines in between her forehead and her face was slightly red. She was raging with anger. Before you got a word out she quickly wrapped her hand around your throat lifting you up to be on the same eye leavel with her. She made sure to leave space for you to breath but this was definitely going to leave a mark.

" so I see playing with fire is one of your biggest virtue now draga, hm?" She asked her tone husked and low, almost like a whisper and a rumble at the same time. You felt that familiar wetness in your core and you whimpered. She pursed her lips together smirking slightly before lowering you back down but not removing her hand from your throat.

Platonic Dynamic: Henry and Pez

Author's Note: Henry and Pez have such an interesting friendship in the book, and I'm so sad we didn't get to see more of it in the movie. (Mayhaps something to elaborate on in the sequel?) I wanted to write this little moment because I believe that Pez was a major support for Henry when grappling with the aftermath of Arthur's death. Shoutout to Pez, you are a real one, darling! This bit is quite angsty, so maybe have a hanky handy?

Pez Okonjo considered himself to be a fairly emotionally intelligent person for his age. His parents raised him to always extend grace and understanding to people because he could never know what they might be going through. But, as he stood outside his dorm room, listening to his best friend struggle not to break down over the phone, he couldn't muster a single mite of grace or understanding for one Catherine Fox Mountchristen-Windsor.

"A-are you sure she isn't available?" Henry was saying. "I-It's just...things are really hard for me right now, and I wanted to-"

Henry's voice fell silent, no doubt listening to the laundry list of excuses and platitudes Catherine's equerries had on hand ever since Arthur's death. Pez tried to be understanding. Really, he did. He had no idea what it must be like to lose the love of one's life. But, in the past few months, especially after the nightclub incident with Bea, Pez had a front-row seat to what it was like to lose a parent.

Or two, Pez thought bitterly.

He listened to Henry mumble something. I swear to God Almighty, if he is fucking apologizing, Pez fumed silently. But anger wasn't what Henry needed at that moment. So, after a minute or two, he knocked on the door cheerfully and breezed in, saying, "So, I know you wanted falafel tonight, but our favorite stand closed early. I got us Indian instead. There's a few different options for you to choose from, plus leftovers for tomorrow!"

Pez pretended not to notice his friend's redden, glassy eyes or the quick swipes he made over his cheeks. Ever since Arthur, it was a delicate tightrope act of knowing when to push and when to let things be. Tonight was the latter.

Henry looked at the bulging bag of food Pez set down on the end of his bed and asked, "Wh-what happened with Cassandra? I thought you two had a date tonight."

Pez sighed, shucking off his jacket. "Can you believe she had the nerve, the gall, nay! The temerity to cancel on me? She said she had food poisoning or some such tosh, but then tell me why I saw her out with her girlfriends at the pub? Women, beautiful, beguiling creatures, though they may be, can be so fickle."

Henry managed a laugh, a small victory in Pez's eyes. "Oh crumbs, Pez. You haven't had much luck lately. That's what? The sixth cancellation in so many weeks?"

"Yes, you needn't rub in it, Haz!"

Of course, it was a lie. In truth, Pez did the canceling, as he had with most of the others who asked him out recently. The ladies were disappointed (because how could they not be?) but understood when Pez explained why. Part of him figured Henry knew the stories were a scam. But Pez couldn't fathom the idea of partying when his best mate was alone with his dark thoughts.

Pez sat down next to Henry, who asked, "Would you like to watch more Doctor Who?"

"Yes, please!" Pez said, digging into the bag and arranging the takeaway containers like a mini-buffet. "I believe we left off right before Ms. Donna Noble was set to make her debut?"

Henry nodded, his spirits lifting. "She's absolutely brilliant, I'm certain you'll love her. I love the dynamic she has with Ten. Oy, Space Man!"

Pez laughed and took a bite of a samosa while Henry queued up the episode on his laptop. As the opening credits played, Henry laid his head on Pez's shoulder.

"Thank you."

Pez rested his cheeks on limp, blonde hair. "You're welcome, Haz."

A/N— Sorry, not sorry, but if the fandom is going to rake Ellen over the coals for her shortcomings with Alex, there needs to be a lot more discussion about Catherine. True, she lost her husband, but Phillip, Bea, and Henry lost their father. She should have been there for them. Comment below with your thoughts! I promise the next ficlet will be decidedly less angsty.

Pizza My Heart AU Presents: The Spaghetti Family

Giuseppe "Peppino" Spaghetti I - The founder of Peppino's Pizza, he's Peppino and Maurice's father. A hard-working pizza chef who was very passionate about his Italian heritage and his craft, as well as passing on his knowledge to his children. He was known for having a kind personality. He died of heart failure when Peppino was almost 30 years old.

Donna Spaghetti - Peppino and Maurice's mama, a strikingly beautiful old lady in her 70's who's always down for excitement even at her age. Ever since her husband died, Donna has had a very active love life, going on dates with quite a number of men, some older than her, some younger. Peppino worries about his mama a lot, but Donna can more than handle herself, being an actual badass at fighting and self-defense. If you see old Donna Spaghetti taking off her earrings? RUN.

Giuseppe "Peppino" Spaghetti II - Our favorite anxious pizza chef, the current owner and operator of Peppino's Pizza. He was named after his father... or did he name himself after his father? Guess it depends on what version of the AU it is! Either way, Peppino turned out to be a lot like his dad, just with a lot more anxiety, PTSD and anger, and a worse economy to deal with. He also inherited his mother's fighting spirit.

Maurizio "Maurice" Spaghetti - Peppino's pessimistic, selfish, violent, and constantly angry twin brother who's been jealous of him since they were children. Because Peppino wanted to be just like their dad growing up, Maurice feels his father treated Peppino like the favorite child, so Maurice constantly bullies Peppino for his entire life. The worst thing he did was throw his Stargate DVD collection into a river. THE ENTIRE STARGATE COLLECTION ON DVD IS WORTH OVER $100 USD (yes, really!). FUCK YOU, MAURICE.

Alfredo "Freddy" Spaghetti - The third Spaghetti brother, known for wearing red, he's five years younger than Peppino and Maurice. A professional chef, he's employed at the fanciest Italian restaurant in town. Despite being very skilled, he can't make pizza to save his life, having extraordinarily bad luck with it. He envies Peppino for his natural pizza-making skills and the fact he owns his own business... even though Freddy makes way more money than Peppino does and has a better quality of life. Despite it all, Freddy does care about Peppino, and worries about him a lot, even if he thinks his friends are weirdos.

Gianna Spaghetti - The fourth and final Spaghetti sibling. A woman in her early 40's, Gianna is a punk who loves creepy and scary things and hates cute things. Apparently, anything cute makes her immediately want to smash it to pieces. She has no love for her older brothers since they were all too absorbed in their own lives to pay much attention to her growing up. She lives with Donna and helps take care of her. (Gianna is directly inspired by Giana from The Great Giana Sisters.)

Angela Spaghetti - Maurice's ex-wife, mother of Maurice Jr. Strongly resembles a young Bea Arthur, with mannerisms similar to Dorothy Zbornak from The Golden Girls. Angela kept her ex-husband's surname even after divorcing him because she still loves the rest of Maurice's family and encourages their son to maintain relationships with them. Angela regrets ever marrying Maurice and frequently refers to him as "a sorry bum with a gambling addiction whom I honestly pity". Her mother's name is Maria, who strongly resembles and acts like Sophia Petrillo from The Golden Girls.

Maurice Spaghetti Jr. - Maurice's ten-year-old son with Angela. Maurice Jr. is actually a very sweet and well-adjusted kid thanks in large part to his mom, but his dad is a deadbeat who doesn't spend time with him unless he's specifically asked to. Maurice tries to make up for his lack of parenting skills by buying expensive gifts for his son... or worse, passing off gifts from other people as if they were from him. Which includes gifts from Peppino. Maurice Jr. has no idea... he loves his dad, but he wishes he'd actually be a dad to him and not just an occasional gift-dispenser.

Nonna Spaghetti - Peppino and Maurice's very elderly grandmother on their father's side. Maurice has taken advantage of this poor lady multiple times by manipulating her into giving him money to spend on his gambling habit. Peppino knows about this, but feels powerless to do anything about it since he's afraid Maurice will retaliate against him. Nonna doesn't always remember what day it is... or even what year it is... but she loves her family members unconditionally and would do anything for them.

I wanted to wait to post this after drawing portraits of everyone, but I'm too impatient for that. I'll draw everyone when I actually have the energy to do so.
