This new media/bookish trend of writing vaguely soppy "morally grey" villains with tragic backstories + sanitizing evil and making it safe enough for the soft gay uwu crowd by adding that "this guy is mean, racist and aids a fascist govt but AT LEAST he SUPPORTS LGBTQ!" means that nobody can properly enjoy well written evil and unhinged villains in media anymore, without some 20 year old on Twitter writing essays about how liking these characters means you're a Nazi sympathizer, child abuse apologist etc.

A lot of viewers can only digest and champion the "misunderstood tragic villains" who deserve "redemption arcs"- Azula, Jinx, s8 Dany, s4 Villanelle, the Darkling etc. On the other hand, deliciously and gruesomely irredeemable villains in darker, more mature media become "one-dimensional" or "mid" because they are unpalatable to fandom culture.

There is a weird pressure upon creators to make all characters likeable, unproblematic and "relatable" by the same hammy tropes: tragedies (dead partner, daddy issues), armchair progressive politics (Fire Nation is Evil but it has Women Soldiers in the Military, Feminist Icons!), or "I hate everyone but you" style dark romance (Daemyra and Alarkling). I am sorry but if the only villain you can appreciate is an "unproblematic", misunderstood one, you are NOT ready for media consumption outside of mainstream YA fantasy and children's literature.

This is the reason why tame liberal progressive books like The Priory of the Orange Tree and The Jasmine Throne gets shelved as "morally grey sapphics" while She Who Became the Sun and Baru Cormorant are called problematic and get negative reviews. This is the reason why CSM fans cry and sob about Makima being a villain and doing villainous things ("Omg how dare she not ask for consent??" She is a literal devil from hell, a war criminal and an allegory of govt. authority abuse of power. Sorry she isn't a feminist.)

You're free to filter the tags, but that's on you and nobody else. They are painted as villains. They are not misrepresentation. It's not on creators to make you feel comfortable about their evil characters. "A truly cool villain must be willing to murder but respect their wife and not be racist"– ok go back to reading AO3!!!! Personally I need more Makima Chainsaw Man and Lee Woo-jin Oldboy and Dorothy Daniels A Certain Hunger and Tywin Lannister ASOIAF and Logan Roy Succession!!!! Make villains nasty and unlikeable and unpalatable and bigoted and evil and gut-wrenchingly unpleasant again!!!

Since I’m on a low-key roll (and by roll I just mean it’s crash out time pitches) in the same exact vein the amount of fanfiction that I’m seeing also says “no use of (y/n)” just feels like normie‘s invading my fandom. The pandemic clearly made a lot of people go onto the Internet and start traversing in spaces where all of the nerds and weird kids have been for a while. I have made more post in the past about people not tagging their x reader stuff correctly as well.

People will get crazily entitled to improperly tagging their stuff and again it just gives you don’t understand fandom space and that you haven’t been here for a while. I quite literally had one person tell me that they were entitled to incorrectly tagging their fanfiction, even though it was basically an OC because and I quote “the x OC tag doesn’t get enough traction.”

First of all, you’re wrong that tag has A TON of traction, second of all, it would get traction if you bothered to tag your stuff correctly and built the tag back up, instead of ruining my experience with your entitlement. This never felt like something that I experienced when I was a teenager in fandom spaces. Fandom etiquette was a thing.

What further got to me was that this person complained about other people coming at them for incorrectly tagging their things. As if they didn’t do that to themselves. You wouldn’t have the problem of people that enjoy X reader fanfiction telling you that you’re an ass for what you did if you properly tagged your stuff instead of doubling down on it. 

For me, it all goes back into the same exact thing, if you don’t wanna use (y/n) fine. Then find a way to make it X reader, or crazy concept just tag it as OC. In the ASOIAF fandom I’ve seen fic where read is referred to as ‘My Lady’ or ‘Sister/Brother’ or ‘Husband/Wife’. I’ve seen similar stuff in other fandoms and that is reasonable. I get that sometimes it’s a pain in the butt to write (y/n) or ‘your name’ or even just ______. However, do not expect any sympathy if you tag something incorrectly and then get hate for it, fandoms had rules before you got Tumblr in 2019.

the first one, i just think it’s so simple but the little halo thing does it for me. the second one i really like the colours, the contrast between the deep blue and almost gold-ish yellow is fun. also syd looks so baby girl <3

nothing beats “weak dog roman roy” imagery to me. i love that man to pieces, probably one of my favourite characters of all times. i miss doing roro art, might draw some stuff of him soon!!!

It’s not even just asoiaf fandom, it’s a pan fandom thing that showing women who are CANONICALLY GNC in gnc ways is considered misogynist. People were doing this about Vi from Arcane like a week ago

oh for sure. and you see people trying to expand the definition of femininity to fit all kinds of things, by in turn REDUCING masculinity by comparison to just a handful of undesirable, violent traits that you wouldn’t want associated with your fave. perhaps this is partially in response to how alienating femininity can be, and ppl trying to carve it into something more accepting that they can belong to. but I think there should be limits to that, bc the result is othering those who just don’t care for femininity, and embrace nonconformity. and this insistence that drawing out a character’s masculinity/non conformity in fanwork is insulting and degrading but capitalising their femininity is empowering - well that’s just so fucking transparent isn’t it lol.

btw though it’s worth adding that I think the dialogue is different where concerns women of colour, as there’s a very different history there as concerns a kind of…. othering through masculinising?? and I saw a dialogue taking place re. this in a different fandom today, concerning fanwork of a character portrayed by a black woman, and I was just like…. there are two very different conversations to be had about this. so would add that on the above, im talking about the discourse surrounding gnc white female characters.

Hello, everyone! My circumstances are getting a little bit more complicated and it's been fairly tricky to find a job over the past year (aaand it's only going to get worse...), so it's time for me to fully, officially, reopen commissions. Some prices have increased since the last time I did this, mainly in the hopes that this reflects my improving skills a little better. Some options are quite costly (particularly the animations and comics) because they demand a ton more work than one might expect. Terms are also more strict than they used to be in order to ensure a more professional dynamic between myself and anyone who commissions me.

Send me a DM if you have a commission in mind, but first, make sure to read through the Read More. I want to expand on what's stated in the final picture to ensure better clarity on the terms of my services:

I'm open to working with any fandom or OC, be it one I'm familiar with or not. I'm also open to working with crossovers, as well as making book/fic/album covers, and even drawing real people as characters of a fandom of the commissioner's choice.

I am open to drawing ship/romance content but, tied directly to the next point...

I reserve the right to refuse any commissions that make me uncomfortable in any given way. This does not mean that everything besides my OTPs and the headcanons I support is guaranteed to be rejected, but it does mean that, if the behavior of the commissioner or the specific subject of the commission does not sit well with me, for any given reason, I will decline the commission. I won't work on something that squicks me, nor with someone who displeases me. No artist should.

Animals, mythological creatures, gore and +18 requests are fundamentally valid but must be discussed thoroughly first. None of these areas are my forte as an artist, as much as I've dabbled in them here and there, so, in order to get it right, I may need extra time and I will most likely modify the base price for any requests that includes these elements.

Payments will be done through PayPal or Wise. The final, full-resolution piece will not be delivered until full payment is completed. Half payment is expected at the start of the process, the second half at the end. The client is entitled to two revisions of the art process to ensure expectations are met. If a piece does not match your expectations after the revisions, the commission will be considered cancelled and you won't need to pay the second half of the expense. Any commissioner who wishes to pay upfront from the get-go does so at their own risk. Revisions are always included, but there will be no refunds if the final piece is not up to the commissioner's standards.

The commissioner is allowed to publish and share the commissioned work across social media, provided it follows the rules of each site (as in, don't post any +18 artworks on sites that do not allow it, pretty much). I can offer basic Glaze and Nightshade in order to protect the artwork from AI theft, to no added expense. Credit MUST be given to me as the artist whenever commissioned pieces are posted elsewhere.

Had a sudden bot idea. Seeing the notification pop up scared me, I thought I was going to get criticized for talking about my OC's 😔

ANYWAYS.

1. Im from North America, Canada!

2. I just used a Valyrian name generator when creating an OC and Vhaemys just stuck, to the point I used it as my online name.

3. I got into ASOIAF by seeing a Jon Snow edit 💀 That man changed me. Took one look at him ansmd immediately decided that this was my life now.

4. I don't look up to anyone famous, but, as cliche as it may seem, I look up to my mom!

5. I don't work, but I've been trying to get into pet-sitting, as I love animals and taking care of them. As for studying, I do study animals and writing. If I were to pick two dream jobs, it'd be, becoming a writer or doing something regarding animals.

6. Other Fandoms... this is a long list. So, obviously we have ASOIAF, Mouthwashing, Castlevania, The Lost Boys, but we also have, Red Dead Redemption, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Arcane, Hellsing, The Legend of Vox Machina(Show Only) and there is a whole bunch more, but this was all I could really think of in the moment.

7. My Hobbies include, writing, dancing, listening to music, playing video games and drawing.

9. My favorite food is shrimp, and my favorite desert, I actually don't really like deserts, most of them are too sweet for me, I prefer salty and savory things. But I do like strawberry ice cream.
