Happy holidays! First off I want to thank you for your account! I don’t have vitiligo, and I don’t know much about the condition outside of a few interactions with people irl and a couple figures in the media (ie. Michael Jackson, and Winnie Harlow). I still have more research to do; reading/listening to people’s personal vitiligo stories has helped, but your account has also been a really helpful guide!

I was wondering if you’d be willing to give some feedback on a character I’m creating. She’s a Black woman in her late 20s (maybe early 30s?) named Pam (her full name is Patricia Ann Miller, but she likes going by the acronym of her name). Right now, I’m thinking of making her an actress or photographer depending on how her storyline pans out. Here is her design for reference:

I was watching movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood era when I created her, so her main design inspirations were Dorothy Dandridge, Marilyn Monroe, etc.

For now, my main question is what do you think of her design, especially her pink hair? I ask this bc I saw an ask on a different account where the responding person said it seemed like the asker was trying to make their character appear “extra special” by giving their character two recessive genetics (albinism and heterochromia). Pam’s hair isn’t natural, just dyed, but I know vitiligo can already make a character physically stand out, so I didn’t want my design to come off that way.

I love pink-haired characters and making them, though I’ve never seen a pink-haired character with vitiligo (or many mainstream ones with vitiligo in general, from my experience). I was in the early stages of revamping a character I’d created in childhood, so I decided to use that design. That being said, I wanted her pink hair to be beyond surface-level reasons. Like, I love pink hair, but I think giving her character an actual reason to dye her hair, like expressing her creativity, could remove semblances of superficiality.

I have another inquiry(s) about her in-progress storyline to make her well-rounded (which would give more context to her character and overall design), but I think it may be too long for an ask 😅. If it’s ok with you, I’d be interested in messaging it to you!

Personally I don't see anything wrong with a character with vitiligo dying their hair! I think that since it's an active choice that the character is making as opposed to a thing the designer is doing to make them more "special" it's fine!

You mentioned wanting some beyond surface-level reasons for her hair dyed, and honestly I think it's fine if it's surface level! Sometimes you just want cute hair, personally I LOVE dying mine! But here are some questions/suggestions to think about if you want a deeper meaning: Did she dye it to hide some vitiligo streaks? Was it as a confidence booster? Did she start doing it to try to distract from the vitiligo?

There's nothing wrong with wanting or having a character standout; it really depends on the context/reasoning behind why if that makes sense? Like it's perfectly fine to have a character stand out or be "extra unique" in their appearance by giving them like vitiligo and heterochromia (Which I find to be overdone/a bit stereotypical but I digress), as long as like there's Awareness(tm) and it's not being done as some weird surface level diversity or whatever lmao

people don’t know what its like to be aromantic. they think of it as a tumblr tag, or headcanons, because the only time they bother to interact with aromanticism is when they’re complaining about our headcanons. no one can deny that aspec identity in this decade is intrinsically connected to the internet, in the same way that no one can say that gay identity in 1970s and 80s america wasn’t intrinsically connected to gay bars. its because That’s How You Meet People. queer people have always taken whatever was the current way for humans to connect to each other and carved out their own space.

aromanticism is in the stage where its hard to find other people, and no one knows what you are, and if you explain it to them they think you’re sick. we’re in the stage where we don’t get a lot of explicit canon representation, we have to scrape by on aro readings and subtext and coding.

preface: bioware failed to flesh out Drell culture and heritage to my satisfaction so I wrote this meta for both my personal reference and because I wanted to represent Thane and Drell as people who suffer from a history that invokes parallels between real world colonization/imperialism, as well as portray his personal conflict with this accurately because it's very painful and I think gets naturally overlooked by people who lack this background!

1. The Family Unit

Size: They're small by necessity: as in there is no room on Kahje to support. This is a bit of a complicated topic. Drell families are likely to lose their children to the Compact giving them incentive to have more than one or two but it’s probably very expensive to provide for them. I can see a lot of cultural tension here. There are pressures in either direction. There's a lot of sadness too. It makes every child extremely precious.

Values: Independence is an important quality-- but not to a fault! Because family units can be taken apart at any time, being able to take care of yourself is a survival skill. In addition, spiritedness is a closely held value-- To make up for the loss of large family trees and ability to be in close quarters (due to the constant coming and going of family members) it becomes very important to showcase your passion-- whether to each other or about any matter of things in life. Overall, spiritedness is most important! caring and wanting to improve upon yourself as well as self-discipline and hard work.

A.N: Probably because, as evidenced by Thane’s dialogue, they've come to view what happened on Rakhana as like, self-inflicted or weak of spirit ( :( this has me extremely messed up. The whole situation is based on Colonialist propaganda honestly so this conflict to me is so personal and painful to watch in real-time because you can see it very plainly in Thane and you can tell he carries that generational trauma)

Carrying on: The ability to be vulnerable is not as important as the ability to show that you care, which can come from action or words, but usually, this means vulnerability and passion go hand in hand. Finally, homecoming is very important. Everyone is so scattered all over the galaxy, time together is time that counts. Bonding circles (An old tradition) have become “Bonds,” a colloquial name for annual family gatherings.

2. Food

Drell are born with a full set of teeth but they can’t be that tough yet. There must be specific dishes for each age to celebrate. That means as they age, softer meats-> harder foods are part of a traditional practice to track development! (Age 1 Birthday Food: Beetle Based Dish, so on till age 16/17)

Rakhana Diet: I also think that on Rakhana insects would have been popular! Because it’s an arid world and it would have been a very nutritious and accessible source of protein. It also strikes me that their recipes may have been very paste-based because it’s an easy way to flavor things when food is scarce! Also, paste flavoring like sambal (spicy chili). Other Foods:

Eggs? Eggs. It’s just a lizard thing but also! Really simple and easy to make.

Desert fruit! Water-based fruits that are similar to cantaloupe and citrusy things like calamansi.

On Kahje: Their diet must have to shift, so lucky they’re omnivorous.

Probably fish. Likely the main source of protein there.

This is off topic but I think that eating kelp runs as a joke for Drell on Kahje because of the similarities between their colors and striping. I don’t know what kind of joke. But I wonder if Drell teens will order fried kelp and point at each other like “cannibal”

You can tell the difference between a Kahje Drell and a Rakhana Drell (If they are still in existence? Most likely but very hard to find) based on their fish opinions

Raw fish consumption is normal on Kahje but Drell are not technically “built” for that diet so they may get sick with overconsumption! It must be well cooked to avoid illness.

3. Music

There's a natural inclination to communicate verbally due to their distinct biology.

Drell anatomy (throat) allows for unique sounds and trills

Highly present in language and utilized in music (On Rhakana there were probably dialects that incorporated certain clicks and trills as part of the “alphabet” just like irl, but I imagine those that can still speak it are very limited and it must be passed down or retaught through preservation efforts)

Rhythmic dance and music to tell stories and legends! Especially of great creatures that transcended into infamy. Like a big old serpent that through storytelling became a mythical dragon type of thing.

Clothing/Robes, loose-fitting and comfortable to work in Arid environments and allow for movement (tight ass clothes not the norm ashdjfk esp for dancing, Thane’s just a career man who thinks he looks good and he lived on Kahje so--)

4. Customs

The Pursuit of Life a.k.a Perah (I made this term up)

It's a cultural value centered around making the most of life through boldness. Seizing the moment because not every Drell gets the opportunity to call their life their own— this is in reference to both the compact and the death of Rakhana. Therefore if you ARE lucky enough to have ownership over your own life, you must not squander it. There are a number of purposeful benefits to Perah, such as:

Leading Drell off of Kahje (avoiding Kepral’s)

Giving Drell an “Adventurous” reputation due to far journeying and mixed work

A lot of Drell are able to form community ties outside of the home due to this norm! Because a lot of them have long and wide and journeys across the galaxy to share with each other and cultural commonality, they have an immediate kinship with each Drell they meet.

Puppetry/Masks

The Drell face is shaped like a mask so it only makes me think there must be culture-specific dances or plays utilizing masks in order to tell traditional stories and celebrate moments of life

There seems to be a lot of reverence and appreciation for the different and diverse, including animals and other species, leading me to believe that there are masks based on different creatures!

5. Hanar Intervention

Loss of Population: Effects

Destruction of the family unit, disjointed/fractured because of the Compact and limited living space on Kahje

Death of Rakhana leaving entire generations and specific regions behind, permanent severing between sects of Drell society

That means the inability to read certain texts as well as languages dying off between generations.

The disappearance of traditions, including many religions

Loss of understanding of Drell language and terminology

A.N: Thane is a rare case with access to high reading material and close ties to “hidden” communities/pockets of people; Most Drell do not know the meaning of Siha due to Hanar assimilating via Enkindlers

Most also do not know about traditional religion! I imagine these pockets must be so small. Thane probably had to work very hard to recover this knowledge which goes to show his complex relationship with his heritage.

It’s likely that there are factions of Drell who attempt to preserve and celebrate their culture despite being uprooted.

Possible rebellions/isolationists who reject the Compact which has mixed reactions by the majority of Drell community, not limited to shunning and disownment (:/ bc these things are sadly complicated)

A.N: Thane comments that it's an honor to fulfill the compact, which naturally implies it's shame to reject it. Let your imagination on the consequences of that rejection sink in.

A misconception is that Drell like to adopt whatever culture they live in but it's more like most of them lack the access to return and reclaim their own roots or have been shamed out of it

+ I LOVE writing overprotective S/O stuff lmao, and John just fits the bill, you know? That, and I really love being able to show his soft side when I'm writing him in an established relationship with the reader. Bc it's like, that was the real John, which a lot of people seem to forget.

- Ugh, for sure a dislike is when I have to write him being abrasive or a jerk, especially towards the reader. These are based off people’s sun signs i know irl (I’m obviously going to have my biases considering I have an air dominant chart yeet)

Aries: One of my best friends is an Aries! I LOVE HER TO DEATH. YALL ARE FUCKING CRAZY & I LOVE IT. but anyway Aries being stereotyped to being passionate is actually real. There’s just something about the way they talk about something/someone they like that just makes u want to listen to them ramble. They’re also really good peptalkers and make u feel good about yourself. They make u feel special too when ur being insecure/ laying out ur problems to them ! They can be a little upfront about how they feel/want (ofc depending on other aspects of their chart BUT) they do that to make things work. Having arguments with them can really be awkward for signs that don’t like confrontation/argument in general but they don’t hold on to that anger for long which is something I really really admire about this sign. Taurus: One of the signs I have a love-hate relationship with. These signs can either be reallyyyyyyy toxic bc of how stubborn they are or they can be the sweetest/most gentle people you’ll meet. Virgo: Oh. My. God. I have so many virgos in my life. They can be passive aggressive which really gets on my nerves 😂 they’re really really meticulous in the little things and try to fix every. single. screw up. They can be insecure af bc theyre very self-aware but that just makes me wanna love them even more. These people will give gr8 advice and opinions straight to you which honestly is very very helpful. They help you see things practically and really just ground you. They are extremely hard workers sometimes to their breaking point which is why I think they can really go far in life. They’re also really thoughtful and selfless people and I hope they treat themselves from time to time because they really really deserve it. Libra: Lmao my sun sign. I haven’t actually met a lot of Libras but based on the ones I know (and myself) we can be really really indecisive which I know tends to annoy other people but know that we do it bc we like to weigh our options and pick the best option that everyone agrees with. We can be people pleasers and want other people to like us which is what I tried to do in my younger years. I’d always felt like it was an attack when someone wouldn’t like me but yes, we can learn to stop being people pleasers when we’ve had enough. We hate confrontation ! It gets really awkward because sometimes I think that saying how I feel/think is a personal attack to someone but I’m working on it. My dad and a close friend of mine is a libra and they’re really good at making u see the other side of an argument/situation which is one of the things I love about my sign and I hope other people love that about us too. We keep it fair and square for y’all 🌬

Scorpio: I have mixed feelings about this sign. I either like them a loooot, don’t like them, or just feel eh about em. They can be pretty intense when u get into an argument with them (or at least the arguments I’ve witnessed) because they give off these really intimidating vibes. I guess it’s the intensity of their eyes. Some of them can be pretty passive aggressive too which again can be annoying but some can be pretty straight to the point and almost feel like they stab u right in the heart with their honesty. They. hold. grudges ! They can be pretty closed off too :( so u probably wouldn’t really know them until they decide to open up to you which honestly takes a while and I know they do that to make sure u don’t screw them over. They can also be really selfish and stubborn when they feel like you’ve neglected them so watch out for that sfsfsfgs but these can also be the nicest, softest, and sweetest signs. They make u feel loved and are really good listeners when your have problems and when they care about something/someone they care about you deeplyyyy fr. The smallest unusual things can put them off but giving them reassurance and talking about your issues with them will calm them down. Sagittarius: My other. best. friend’s. sign like fUUUUUck these are hands down one of the most insane people you’ll meet. Me and my best friend beside each other is already a party in itself ngl. These signs are also really good at keeping conversations fun, lighthearted, and meaningful. When they’ve finally found someone worth their loyalty, time, and effort, when they say they got u, they got u till the grave man. They can either be really fucking insane or the chillest people you’ll know. They’re very easy to get along with too. When you’ve upset them, they can be pretty upfront about how they feel so you definitely won’t have second guesses about what goes on in their heads. Capricorn: Aha here’s the other sign I have a love- hate relationship with. I’ve talked to a few of them and these people can literally be the most confusing and almost sneaky people I’ve met (they can be kinda passive aggressive). They don’t give their all to someone they don’t know for sure is willing to give 200% of themselves in return. However, they are also the hustlers of the zodiac. You probably wouldn’t know they have 3 side hustles and 2 main ones which is something I really admire them for. Their drive to achieve their goals makes you wanna work 10x if not a hundred times harder to achieve your goals and take on new ones. They come off super intimidating but I guess that’s just part of their appeal (their vibes literally scream i’m the boss, bitch) they can also come off really serious but they actually have a really great sense of humor. I’ll admit they’re funny af. Just like their goals, once they’ve decided to put their heart into someone’s hands they will put not just a hundred but 200 if not 500% of themselves into their relationships and they are always at the top of their loyalty game. They’re most likely to also perform Acts of Services and can be really selfless people so treat your cap friends from time to time and definitely ask how they’re doing. They tend to bottle up emotions and don’t really know how to express them properly so be as selfless as they are too bc God knows they need emotional support as much as everyone does despite looking like they have their shit together. Aquarius: The cutest weirdos I know ! They’re quirkiness is endearing and some people may find it odd but it really just comes from how unique and original they are. Their fight for equality is really inspiring be it feminism, or any sort of cause to fight for rights is what they’re known for. They’re also the first ones to notice and call out inequality in certain situations and really helps people realize and see the hidden agendas/messages of marketing. They call out what society thinks is right and it’s something really cool about them. Keep being weird, Aquarius 👽

Pisces: I only really know one but from what I’ve gathered, they can be reaaaal softies. They’re really good at any form of art like painting and music. For some reason they’re given the talent of knowing exactly what gifts to give their loved ones? They’re really thoughtful and can be really selfless for their loved ones. They’re really good at making you feel understood and make u feel comfortable in your own skin and are the perfect home bodies tbh. Late night talks with this sign have been amazing so far and I would recommend telling a Pisces what’s been bothering u. Don’t put too much anger or negative energy into what u say to them tho as they feel their emotions physically too. This really close friend of mine who i might as well consider my sister told me she literally feels drained after having people tell her their problems. They can be quite moody and are a handful when they aren’t in a good mood too. They may lash out on people around them and it’s just not something you’d want to deal with especially when you’re in good spirits. places like i said like churches, groups, chatrooms, sites, apps, hotlines the apps and hotlines are good if u cant travel or want to talk to ppl who wont share their story bc maybe u cant hear it like its not the kinda help ur looking for. hotlines are sometimes tricky bc some of those folks are not educated they are volunteers so judgment leaks thru and in that case u ask to be redirected and report that volunteer so hopefully they dont repeat that kinda mess to other vulnerable folks looking for help

make a list of things, anything. list of foods u like to order, list of things that make u clench yr teeth, what were yr fave gifts you’ve ever got, style icons of urs, hobbies u tried that annoyed u, movies u can always watch, places on yr skin u hate being touched, any list of anything it doesnt have to be the usual thing of “what to live for” bc when yr depressed those kinds of things arent easy to think of. but if u get a list going of like “best things ive ever touched” “sounds that make me laugh” “trends that were stupid af” “popular things that i didnt like n couldnt figure out why they were popular” “weirdest ppl ive met” well those things might get u on a roll of good memories or laughing or seeing that theres more to yr life than what has been occupying yr thoughts

dancing. dance in yr room in the dark. clear some space. put on some headphones. lock yr door. do it in the shower. just dance. i had to start w closing my eyes and picking songs that i was taken by emotionally. songs that made me jump and slamdance tbh and then it’s just gotten more and more something im not as ashamed w. i spent a date night w james just dancing and then we ya know ya know bc the dancing got so wild. now i make playlists of songs that set moods for diff kinds of dancing

watch shows w ppl who arent doing better than u. they dont live in fancy places, they dont do much w their lives, they dont dress better than u, they struggle, they arent eating good food u dont have access to. iasip. freaks and geeks. letterkenny. undeclared. jake and amir. tpb. the state. youtube. tiktok/vine comps. lots of these kinds of vibes on youtube

podcasts. improv comedy podcasts tbh saved my life. comedy bang! bang! has best of’s those are good ones to start w. improv4humans bc matt besser has great guests of some of the best improvisers out there and he has musical guests and they’ll play a song and the improvisers will use it as inspo for a scene

make things. moodboards. pinterest. playlists. fill a shopping cart and tell yrself “i’ll get it when i win the lotto and move away from anyone who knows me so i can be the me i wanna be w/out judgement” make tea. make a meal if u can. make yr bed. clean one thing. clean the sink. hang some clothes or go thru yr drawers and clean them out. throwing things out feels hard at first but then it’s nice bc u feel less bogged down

find something to throw yr obsession at for a bit. something that wont hurt u as bad, being obsessed in general isnt good. everything in moderation irl. too much of something is bad just as much as too less of it can be bad. but yr looking for something lower risk here and if u gotta be obsessed w a celeb or a song or a food that’s ok. yr focusing the energy on something that isnt a substance so be proud of it

give yrself a break. give yrself some credit. everyday isnt gonna be on the “best of your name here’s days” but sometimes u just live to live bc that’s what u do. u wait it out and get thru it and wait for the sun to come back out. and if u cant get outta bed. or if you hate yr job and wanna scream- that’s normal it’s more normal than always being happy ppl just dont like talking abt bc society kinda trains us to hide our fucked upness idk why but thats how it is. they dont wanna tell us to do preventative care until we’re in the pits

all in all- it comes down to (at least for me) not planning w an endgoal in mind. it’s not over til it’s over and rlly we dont know. it’s all fluctuating and not meant to be a finish line we cross and then suddenly we’re done and we dont suffer anymore and the feeling of shit is gone or the risk of relapse is gone and the depression is cleared away never to be seen again. it’s not realistic. bc it isnt real. on the real- risk is always there and the downs and ups mix and run together and depression is not curable (this isnt something to be miserable over tho) depression isnt curable, yeah ok, but it is manageable. it can be quieted down from time to time and if u keep up w yr healthy routines and coping mechanisms- depression will still find its way to u bc the real world is not something u can manage. death in the family, loss of money or job, car breaking down, sickness outta nowhere, depression grows wild when these very real life stressors come into our lives. but all that too eventually gets easier and easier at least from a “ok i have some distance now” standpoint. and then as those days get more and more btwn it u can then be like “oh wow, ive made it thru X amount of days! ive put up w it this long! whats one more day, whats one more week, hell might as well see how much prouder i can feel once ive got a year under my belt!” plus u will be more capable of handling the bullshit if u know u can still find some safe places in yr coping skills or friends or resources.

ok so this is prob a mess but bottomline know this:

I love how this chapter started with yoongi thinking of her even over the most trivial and domestic stuff, aka BOY NEEDS HER COOKING IT’S A LOVE LANGUAGE FOR THEM!!! and the GASP i let out when joon and hobi appeared, i felt relief that they are not runner ups for the bro position but then i got sidetracked bc that scene felt like the ddaeng studio video and i felt all sorts of things (h*rny mostly tbh) and i had to refocus to the plot bc i knew it was too good to be true. and then jk arrived! looking starstruck and with THEE DUMPLINGS??? Sometimes I will write 1000 words of meta just going into deep detail about my love for a character, my love for bellarke, or an abstract idea presented in the universe of the show.  I don’t have the discipline for regular episode reviews, but I do post reactions/responses sometimes. I love jokes and comedic posts. I will reblog a rickroll every time and laugh every time bc someone thought "bellarke kiss" was a real link. I have made posts specifically to LOL at fandom, including the 100 fandom, multiple times and will still do so bc fandom is a circus.

I'm kinda bitchy after 2am, which I consider my prerogative as an American. 😉

Most of the time my blog is fairly drama free, but sometimes stuff makes all the hair on my back rise and I'm like a hissing cat. This is unlikely to happen more than once every months or so, but it might increase over the course of an active season. Most of the time I keep my personal complaints to private conversation, like an adult.

I am fandom old, which means I'm the same age as Bob Morley, but I have better hair. He has two dogs though, so it's possible he's further in his life journey than I am. All snark aside, I don't really talk about the 100 actors that much outside of hot pics or 100-relevant interviews, and I wouldn't call myself a stan for anyone. That being said, here's the charity GoFundMe for school Eliza Taylor founded. It's good work.

Comportment:

I draw a strong line between fandom and The Powers That Be. I don't believe in sending ship stuff to actors, and I don't believe in @-ing negative stuff to the writers on Twitter. I think trying to recruit industry people to our ship, or trap them into saying they ship something especially cast or writers, is embarrassing at best and manipulatively harmful at worst. Please don't try to get the child actors involved.

You can unfollow me at any time, for any reason. I may also unfollow you at any time, and it might have nothing to do with the fandom. I follow so many blogs that I don't see everything on my dash, and I sometimes get people mixed up when they change their usernames.

I also unfollow people who post character bashing, particularly if it's a strain of "character hurt Bellamy so they're a monster" because A) fictional characters are not people, they have no agency to cause hurt IRL and have no feelings to experience hurt IRL, B) all the 100 characters do bad things and they all hurt each other, and c) I just don't want to hear the bullshit anymore bc it's probably insincere and it's almost definitely misguided. This isn't to say that I think negative reactions are bad, or disliking a character is bad, but it means I follow 600+ people and I won't miss reading crap that makes me roll my eyes that hard. If you're wondering why I mentioned Bellamy and not other characters, it's because I am an active bellarke shipper and he's far and away the most popular character in the shipdom, which means most reactionary stuff is framed around perceived injustices done to him. It makes it kind of exhausting to love his character so much yet also to disagree profoundly with how so many others experience and interpret him. So I unfollow often, and welcome people to unfollow me if my reactions to the show annoy them in a similar manner.

Also, on the topic of what is "bad" on Tumblr: having any feelings about a show in any direction is not an inherently moral or immoral thing. You cannot hurt fictional characters, you can only hurt the people who create them and the other people who consume them. It is accurate to say that the internet body politik influences how we perceive media and it influences how we talk about it, so it could follow then that moral and political opinions about media are influenced by our perception of political and moral issues. For example, I think fandom is ragingly sexist, and our fandom tips more that way than others I've been in, particularly in its revulsion towards motherhood. There's a lot more -isms I could add to that, and have in the past. HOWEVER, this is ultimately a television show, and we each bring to it a host of preconceived experiences and ideas that we apply to what we see on screen. Since I don't know what everybody else's brain looks like on the inside, I try not to assume that liking or disliking a story element is indicative of how that person sees the real world--because The 100 is not a real world. It is made up. OTOH, sometimes people outright say or enact the stupid shit that is in their heads, and I have a decently long memory for it. And I am trained to spot patterns, academically and professionally. So I do a lot of eye rolling. I'm not trying to say that as a brag, that's how my brain works. I wish it were trained to increase $$ but it's not, so more the fool me.

Also, I think about 89% of the soap-boxing in fandom is just a front for shipping grudges, so you can miss me with that. You can also miss me with the anti-Octavia stuff, the anti-Clarke stuff, the anti-Aurora stuff, the anti-Echo stuff, and the anti-Abby stuff. I'd say the anti-Bellamy stuff too, but literally like 2 people in four years have reblogged anti-Bellamy stuff on my dash, and that was deep in the dark times of CL drama, so I think that's covered.

Bellarke is... stunningly unique, as a ship goes, and I've been in fandom since I was a teenager so that is saying a lot for me.

Tumblr Friends

Chapter 6 ~ New Names

The next few weeks were hectic. I had two projects, three assignments and a test. My days were spent working on them or studying for them or drawing for Tumblr between breaks. Also, hanging out once a week at home with my sisters and their respective boyfriends. Only once we went out with them, and only to go to McDonald’s and pick up our food.

Stormblessed-radiant answered me the next day and everything had gone fairly smoothly between us since then. Actually, he was one of the main reasons I was still alive with all the overload in my life lately. And it seemed, I was his reason too.

When I was alone at home and doing homework, I always kept a Chrome tab with Tumblr on it, just in case I needed cheering up or he did. It was almost like a constant presence, always there if I needed, like reassurance. We usually didn’t really talk in those moments because we both had things to do, but when study time finished, and we were both alone, we weren’t able to stop. One would think we’d run out of topics, but every day new things came up. And I started falling hard for him.

You are in such deep, unending shit, Feyre.

We just had so much in common: we loved books more than people usually did, we had hard stuff happening to us but were pushing through (his mom and dad died, just like ours, and all he had left was his brothers, like I had my sisters), we were the same age... 

Another real important thing was that his brothers were older and working and both had girlfriends, so they didn’t spend much time at home (like my sisters), which was fundamental in order for us to have endless conversation.

Another highpoint of my month was seeing my sisters so happy. It had taken a while to reconcile ourselves with what had happened.

You see, my mom and dad weren’t the greatest parents in the world, they had issues, but they were there, which was what counted. The thing is, my dad had had some trauma when he was in the military and he took on drinking as a solution. He didn’t treat my mom like she deserved (or us, for that matter) but he never hit, so we hid our problems as much as we could. But one day, when my mom was on her office’s Christmas party, he went to pick her up and he had had a little too much to drink and on the way back they swerved out of the road and hit a tree, which instantly killed them.

We were devastated. My sisters and I felt so many things at once that we almost collapsed. Each one of us felt guilty for not seeing he was drunk, each felt glad our dad was not there to mentally beat us up anymore, felt sad because of our loss... The feelings were so contradictory and over the place that we hid ourselves in our rooms, at school, trying to not think about all the mess we were at the moment. My sister Nesta was on her last year of college, so when she finished she started working and supporting us. Elain also took a shift at some local flower store and I babysat kids. 

That is until my school psychologist saw me crying my eyes out on lunchbreak, two months after everything had happened.

She talked to Nesta, who was my legal guardian, and suggested the three of us went to therapy together, which worked surprisingly well. We all discovered that our feelings were the same, and most of all, normal.

That had prompted my sister Elain to study psychology, which she loves.

And just like that, our bond grew stronger.

On Monday evening, in one of my usual convos with SR (stormblessed-radiant, I was just tired of not knowing what to call him, so I made that up) the meeting topic came up again, and this time I was ready.

C’mon Feyre Archeron, you can do this. You’ve been talking to him for a month and a half and know him better than you ever knew Tamlin. He’s NOT Tamlin, and he could NEVER be like him.

I cracked my knuckles, pushed my glasses up and started typing an answer.

fey-oathbringer: Okay, so I about that. I’ve finished my crazy month, so we can really meet, like IRL meet. If you want. Any suggestions to where?

stormblessed-radiant: Oh yeah, I want to meet alright, darling. And do you know Velaris Cafe? In Night Court Street 5? Is that far from your house?

fey-oathbringer: OMG, yes!!!! I love that little cafe <3 And it’s walking distance from home (which is good, cause I don’t have a car) so afterwards I won’t have to take a cab. Is Friday okay for you? Say, kinda like a lunch date? It’ll have to be after 14:30, bc I have classes...

stormblessed-radiant: Are you asking me out on a date *wink, wink*?? And yeah, 15:00 for me, bc I’ve got classes too.

fey-oathbringer: I said “kinda like a lunch date”, ‘kinda’ being the key word there. Oh, and it’s on my calendar, so no chickening out now

stormblessed-radiant: I think ‘date’ is actually the key word ;) And I’m not a chicken-out kinda guy, darling.

Just like that, the date was set. And I couldn’t wait.

Closing up my laptop, I went downstairs. I heard voices, deep male voices.

Surprise, surprise. The boyfriends are here.

Not really a surprise though. I can’t tell if you can tell it was sarcasm.

As always, I popped my head into the living room to say hi.

“Hey guys! Nes, I’m going to take my dinner upstairs, is that alright? I don’t really want to interrupt you...”

“What? You’re not interrupting Fey, never think that.” said Elain. “And actually, we wanted to talk to you.”

“The four of you?” I inquired, raising my eyebrow and slowly and cautiously stepping into the room…

Nesta intervened.

“Yeah, we know you’ve finished your projects and assignments, so we wanted to propose to you that, maybe, if you want, this Friday you can meet Cass and Az’s little brother?”

At that, I panicked a little bit and started wiping my hands on my jeans, pushing my glasses up and twirling a piece of my hair. Of course, she noticed it.

“Fey, it’s okay, you can say no. No one is going to get mad at you. Come here.”

I dragged myself to the couch and fell into her arms, right beside her, in the spot Cassian had made for me.

“It’s not that. I want to meet him. But... I just...” I sighed.

“You’re shy and scared?” contributed Cassian.

“Yeah. And he’s your brother and I don’t wanna mess everything you guys have up, just because I’m a little bit dysfunctional.”

“Hey, no! You’re NOT dysfunctional and we love you just the way you are, like Bruno Mars” objected Elain.

At last, Azriel quietly spoke:

“Besides, he’s going to love you, just like we do, and if he doesn’t we’ll kick his ass until he does.”

I stared at all of them, and wondered how I had gotten so lucky, because every single one was looking at me with nothing but love in their eyes. I casted my eyes down.

Then, looking up from my lap, I cleared my throat.

“Okay, but it has to be for dinner. I actually have something to do at lunch.”

“Yeah, he can’t do lunch either and neither can we, so dinner?” suggested Cassian.

“Sure. Oh, and what’s his name?”

Let me tell you something, I never got it.

They started teasing, tickling me, throwing me to the ground, having a pillow fight... And it resolved on his brother having to tell me on Friday.

So, I guess I’ll just learn some new names on Friday.

When my alarm went off it dawned on me: Friday was her. My heart started beating as if it wanted to get out of my ribcage.

Shit, Feyre, relax. You still have classes before you even see them.

Yeah, that’s right. Me, an antisocial person, meeting not one, but two new people on the same day.

I turned off the alarm and got ready for the day, throwing on my jeans, a flowy blouse and some red chucks. After that, I went to the bathroom and for the first time in months, I took out my contact lenses and put them on, grabbing my mascara on the way out and stuffing it in my backpack.

As I went downstairs I realized that I hadn’t done my hair, but also hadn’t had breakfast, and didn’t have enough time for both.

Crap! Whatever, I’ll braid my hair in class.

Going into the kitchen, I smelled bacon and eggs, which made me suspicious immediately. Guys, we never, and I mean it, never cook breakfast. None of us. We pour ourselves coffee or chocolate milk and skedaddle out the door with a few cookies on our hands.

I spotted a plate and a glass where the delicious scent was coming from, and next to it a note that read:

“Power up little sis, big day ahead. Please don’t bail and get back from your ~mysterious~ date on time to meet your future brother in law. We love you. E+N”

As I said, suspicious. But, who can say no to bacon and eggs? So I ate them and scribbled a not on the back of theirs before running out the door.

“I love you too, weirdos. Be back by 6 pm <3″

Of course, my teacher would pull me apart on the last minute of class. And of course, that made me miss the bus, which led to me being late to the little cafe.

15:09 Feyre, not that late.

I looked through the window and everyone seemed to be minding their own business, except for one guy. He had midnight black hair, short but not too short.

Enough to grab the back of it when kissing.

Okay, that was weird. Anyway. His eyes were trained on the door, but he kept checking his watch, which reminded me that I was late, so I quickly stepped through the door and headed for his table. Right as I entered I looked at him, and a smile brushed his mouth.

OMG Feyre, look at those lips! And those eyes!

Seriously though, his eyes were from another universe, a blue so unique that appeared almost purple. 

I took a very deep breath and flung my hand out in greeting.

“Hi! Are you...?”

“SR, nice meeting you darling” he said, laughter filling his eyes.

“I’m NOT your darling.” 

Great, go for the knife already... C’mon, deep breath Feyre.

“And I- ah... I’m Feyre. It’s nice to meet you, too”

“Oh, yeah! I forgot. My name is Rhysand, but please call me Rhys, all my friends do.”

“And I suppose you have many of those?” I inquired.

Ups.

If it bothered him, he didn’t show it, but instead started laughing.

“You, darling, have a bite. Thank God I already knew, or I would have been forced to leave you.” he got out, eyes shining with mischief. “So Feyre, darling, you hungry?”

Oh, he knows how to get to me. Food is always welcomed.

“Starving”.

And so it began.

We ordered two burgers with fries and while we ate, we talked. Endlessly. At first it was a little weird, but then... I was surprised that he really seemed to be the same as on Tumblr, except for that wicked gleam in his eyes every time I snapped a retort at him. Those I hadn’t seen before, but I was in love with them.

Even after we finished our food, we kept going on. We discussed every topic possible, yet still more came up. Conversation flowed easily, with no effort. It went from books, to movies, back to books, then families, photography, art...

When the clock of the little shop marked 17:30, I told him I had to go. Good thing I did it earlier than necessary, because we ended up talking on the street for another twenty minutes.

Then I really needed to leave, or my sisters would have my head. He offered me a ride home, but I declined, because I needed to air my head anyway and it was only like 5 minutes away. We agreed on meeting again, exchanged phone numbers and hugged goodbye.

Disappointment Feyre, you should’ve gone all in for the kiss.

Yeah, right. As if I could’ve done it all in one day.

But it wasn’t ALL in one day, you’ve been talking for more than a month.

With that inner monologue going on in my head, I arrived home just in time to fulfill my sisters thirst for my blood.

“I’m hooome!” I screamed as I got in.

Not two seconds later, Nesta and Elain appeared on the stairs, running down.

“Fey!”

“How was it? “

“Did you kiss?” 

“Wait, no. Was he pretty?”

“Oh my God, let me breathe.” I fumbled. “It was nice, we didn’t and yes, he is pretty.”

“Ohhhhh Feyre’s got a new boyfriend!” sang Elain.

“I do not!” I hissed.

“You sooooo do. When can we meet him?” Nesta objected.

“Tell us about him” pleaded Elain.

“Okay, okay. Jeez... He is tall, black hair, very blue eyes and he’s really good. Like, a really really good person. Also, he’s kinda ripped too. And handsome... Okay, I’m SO deep into him.” I breathed out.

“We know” they said in unison.

“What do I do? I don’t wanna mess this up?”

“You won’t Fey, we won’t let you” promised Nesta.

I snorted. Hard. 

“Well that’s a relief.”

And the three of us bursted out laughing.

After the little heart to heart with my sisters I went upstairs, took my contacts off because they were killing me, wiped my make up off and changed my blouse for a Ravenclaw t-shirt.

What? I like Ravenclaw, okay? Also, I’m a nerd and I’m entitled to have everything I want if it belongs to my house yeah?

I put my glasses on, and looked in the mirror, deciding to put my hair in a messy bun.

I don’t want their brother to like me too much or else I’d have to let him down.

Because Rhysand felt like he was in my life to stay, and I wouldn’t compromise that for anything in the world. Not even my sisters’ boyfriends’ brother.

Wow, that’s complicated.

A bell rang, breaking me from my thoughts, and I raced downstairs to open the door just in time as Nesta was screaming for me to do it. Repeatedly.

“Omg, Nesta, chill. I’m coming! No need to bite my head off.” I yelled back at her.

I could hear laughing on the other side of the door, so I grabbed the door knob and opened it, seeing Azriel and Cassian immediately. Behind them I could see a figure, but they were covering him, so I sighed and hugged them first. I looked down to my feet.

“Oh, get it over with.” I mumbled

“Okay, Fey” said Cassian, pulling the person behind him to the front and continuing. “This is Rhysand, our little brother. But you can call him Rhys.”

At that, my head snapped up right on time to see stormblessed-radiant, Rhys, open his eyes in shock, and step a little bit forward, mouth agape.

And then I fainted.

Okay, so I’m not sorry for the cliffhanger. But guys, they met!!!!! And this is a long chapter, so BONUS.

so i’ve had this kinda random idea of neighbour!astro so like,, here’s a neighbour!astro au in which all of the guys live on the same floor of an apartment building! 

Myungjun

everyone in the building knows who he is and loves him

like myungjun doesn’t leave, return to, (etc) his apartment without saying hello and smiling at every single person he passes 

he’s always ruffling kids hair on the way by and always has candy with him to hand them

at first all of the parents were freaked out by this dude giving their kids candy but eventually they got used to it bc they realized myungjun is literally a harmless bean

there’s a lot of house plants in his apartment

succulents on the desk in his bedroom

a flower called a clivia on the living room table (everyone says this flower is just myungjun as a plant due to it’s orange and yellow petals)

grows aloe and various herbs in the window in his kitchen

random flowers and other plants scattered around the various rooms of his house

once sanha broke one of his plants and he cried 

he didn’t talk to sanha for a whole week and only forgave him when sanha bought him a new plant

doesn’t care at all about anything else in his apartment looking good though and jinwoo is constantly yelling at him bc “myungjun hyung you literally have yellow walls and your bedsheets are blue and you have purple and green striped pillows whAT ArE YOu dOIng” 

jinwoo has tried like five times to get him to buy matching stuff and each time myungjun gets out of it by distracting jinwoo with his flirting skills™️

cue flustered jinwoo with super red cheeks and barely responding to anything myungjun says

he introduced all of the guys to one another and they all kinda credit him for their friend group

is the friend who brings them all coffees, treats, etc whenever he goes out

loved unconditionally by everyone for his ever present smile and positivity around the building

Jinwoo

has his dog’s name on the name plate next to his door alongside his

everyone thought that it was the name of his child for a really long time bc he refers to his dog as his kid and bc his dog’s name is jihun which is a pretty common name

takes his dog on runs/walks every day and when he sees the old women in the park doing yoga/exercising he yells out a “looking great ladies” with his signature smile nd literally all of them are in love with him 

”omg i wish he would marry my daughter” “psh please mrs. kang i want him to marry me” (sucks for all of them though bc he only has eyes for myungjun)

has way too many things for his dog scattered around his apartment,,, somehow his house is nearly as neat as dongmin’s

his apartment is the epitome of aesthetic and everyone who comes in is jealous of his white walls and white bed sheets and completely matching green accents

(if only he could keep a plant alive, then it would be perfect in his mind)

only has mugs in his kitchen and no one knows why he doesn’t own any glasses 

he met myungjun bc he was constantly throwing out dead house plants and myungjun saw and started to leave ones he had been taking care of for a while outside jinwoo’s door

kept it up for like 3 weeks before jinwoo finally caught him trying to sneak back into his apartment across the hall

jinwoo thinks that he should probably be offended that myungjun had no faith in his ability to grow a plant but he can’t be upset bc the cutest guy in his building is giving him plants and its a great excuse to talk to him for “tips on keeping his plants alive”

is the one of his friend group who all of them go to for advice whenever they’re having trouble with something

he’ll sit them down on his couch with a mug of tea and let them pet his dog as they rant to him about whatever is wrong

gives them great advice and a good hug before sending them back to their own apartments

highkey the kindest and most genuine hearted person in the building and he always has something nice to say to everyone he sees when leaving, coming, walking around, (etc)

Dongmin

has been living in the building for the longest time of all of the guys

he tutors like half the kids in the building in various subjects ranging from science to english

he met myungjun the week that he moved in bc he thought myungjun was trying to kidnap one of the kids he tutors

myungjun ran into the boy as he was returning to his apartment and told the kid to come in for a minute bc he just bought new chocolates

cue dongmin freaking the heck out bc he thought that his new next door neighbour was actually going to murder the 10 year old or something

calmed down after myungjun explained himself and gave dongmin some chocolate too

his house is literally spotless and no one knows how he does it bc he’s so busy

though it’s not as aesthetic as jinwoo’s apartment it’s super nice and well decorated and put together

has complete matching utensils and plates and glasses (and even has a set of wine glasses)

a closet that, according to myungjun, is “bigger than my bathroom wtf” and is filled with super nice pieces of clothing that the other guys steal from time to time

doesn’t talk to everyone he sees bc usually he’s rushing around to get home for tutoring, to school, or to his part time job but always offers everyone a smile

the most organized and put together person in the building,, you’ll never catch him in any drama like he’s so lowkey it’s unbelievable 

hosts weekly drama-watching nights for all the guys bc his living room is the biggest

doesn’t get caught in any irl drama but will binge watch an entire show in 24 hours and rant to anyone who will listen about why it sucks/is a must see while in the laundry room

everyone who lives in the building either wants to be him, marry him, or have one of their kids marry him tbh

Bin

everyone in the building describes him as “unique”

no one really knows him that well but they also can’t really complain about him bc for the most part he’s a great neighbour

he’s quiet and keeps pretty much to himself,, never really has people over very often 

lowkey a hoarder though bc he finds things that he thinks are cute, different, (etc) at stores and buys them for no real reason and then stacks them on his shelves

dongmin is always trying to get rid of these little trinkets like “wtf bin why do you need this mini statue of a rooster??” “bc it’s cute, okay, and the lady told me it was a good luck charm i can’t get rid of it”

highkey in love with dongmin,,, everyone knows it,,, even dongmin knows it,, but it’s okay bc dongmin is highkey in love with bin too

the two spend hours together /studying/ but actually study bc they just like being around each other even if they’re not talking

sanha, being the buildings Drama King, has tried to find dirt on their “study dates” but can’t bc they literally just study

go on coffee dates 25/8 bc they’re both struggling university students, pray for them (sanha and minhyuk are constantly annoyed that they don’t get invited for coffee bc they are also struggling university students, jinwoo reminds them that dongmin and bin are in love™️ and they need to chill)

he’s the only one who actually knows how he and myungjun met bc myungjun doesn’t remember

bin lives across the hall and to the left of myungjun, next door to jinwoo

basically he lives on the end of the hall, with jinwoo in the middle and minhyuk on jinwoo’s other side; sanha lives directly across from him, myungjun in the middle of the opposite side and dongmin on myungjun’s other side

one night myungjun somehow manages to knock on the wrong door and totally confess to jinwoo how much he likes having him as a friend bc he’s only his second friend in the building aside from dongmin

except he tells bin all this stuff and bin is like “uhh i mean, i know i’m great but who are you??” 

they end up friends after that somehow,, it helps that myungjun is friends with dongmin 

bin will bring all the cats back home each time he comes back to his apartment

like he’ll see a familiar black cat and be like “oh that’s miss. kim’s cat, mina, i better bring her home!!” 

then gets the cat to follow him home bc cats love him for some reason and returns the cat to it’s apartment 

smiles so much bc he loves smiling and being smiley and everyone loves seeing him walking around

super nice when you get to know him but comes off as slightly intimidating

the guys know he cries at dramas, and offers to fight anyone who hurts them

Minhyuk

athlete extraordinaire in a nontraditional way

aka the shelves of his apartment are filled with dance and taekwondo trophies 

really quiet and pretty shy tbh like no one really talks to him unless he wants them to

he lived next to jinwoo for almost a month before anyone met him

they literally never saw him and thought maybe it was some kind of ghost tenant or something living in the apartment

and then one night when myungjun was working jinwoo went over bc he heard minhyuk playing a song by bts that he really liked the dance to

cue him and minhyuk bonding over dance and becoming dance buddies

his apartment is really messy,,, like there’s clothes covering every spot in his room and no one knows how he can tell anything apart

he’s the person who will just grab a random shirt off the floor like “eh this is good” and wear it 

dongmin is always telling him to clean up but he doesn’t ever listen

he’s really observant which is a benefit of being quiet and not talking much

him not talking much is also why him and sanha bond so well bc sanha incessantly talks but in like a good way bc minhyuk loves it

hardcore pining after sanha and everyone knows it except sanha bc he’s oblivious

does absolutely anything sanha asks him to bc he just cares about him so much

even helps him with finding dirt/drama about people around the building even though it’s not really his thing

he heard about a few of the kids wanting to attend dance lessons and not being able to afford it so he convinced bin and jinwoo to help him teach them for free,,, took none of the credit even though it was 110% his idea

everyone has a lot of respect for him bc they know he works hard 

is super polite to everyone so pretty much everyone likes him and they leave him alone for the most part

definitely the balancing personality in his friend group bc while he can be excited and joking when he wants to be he’s pretty serious for the most part and makes sure they’re not doing, saying, (etc) anything silly or stupid

Sanha

only moved in like 3 months ago and lives on myungjun’s other side

when he moved in myungjun helped him carry some boxes up without even saying anything to sanha first

the poor boy thought this guy was trying to steal his stuff and only realized myungjun was helping him after he yelled at him

quickly forgave him bc they live right beside each other and have quite a bit in common

absolute Drama King like he doesn’t start it or get involved in it but he knows everything there is to know about everyone

he goes to tea at the houses of the gossip ladies and bc he seems so innocent they just talk about everything in front of him

someone: “did you hear about what miss. kang did with mrs. kim’s husband??” 

sanha: “uhh no please fill me in” 

all the ladies love him and invite him back every single week

he doesn’t spill any of the secrets he learns unless he has to,,, chaotic good tbh

his house is surprisingly clean,,, bc he’s so young everyone expects it to be like minhyuk’s but somehow it isn't 

his plates, bowls, cups, other kitchenware are yellow and everyone loves it bc they think they’re adorable

constantly falls asleep at the desk in his room due to staying up late to do homework and jinwoo is always telling him he needs to get proper sleep and use his bed

the buildings largest child tbh,, everyone kinda watches out for him and all the parents pinch his cheeks and think he’s adorable 

the most oblivious person on earth

everyone has told him that minhyuk likes him, including the gossip ladies but he won’t listen bc he’s stubborn

doesn’t believe that his huge crush isn’t one sided until minhyuk kisses him one day while they’re having a very very rare argument about something

when the guys find out they yell/say variations of “finally” and myungjun buys minhyuk ice cream as a congratulations

like myungjun, he’s super positive and always smiling his super nice smile and everyone loves having him around

Luhan would be a blogger that shows off his cat(s) and his soccer skills. I think he’d also do hair tutorials and try weird internet fads for the fun of it.
