also the costume manager, he has literally been badgering chan to update the uniforms like forever, sometimes he adds his own little spins to the costumes and also does repairs on them

he admires the guard (you) from afar for sure

he carries your stuff for you because he's such a gentleman (also the piccolo is pocket sized and chan has been getting on his ass about treating the instrument right but to him nothing matters more than treating you right)

chan basically refuses to let him make the switch to sax because he knows what'll happen if he does (he thinks han'll go crazy)

he loves a good challenge, will trumpet-off with other people and play songs on his instruments against other sections

he probably plays show tunes and stuff while you dance with him- loves to call you his showgirl

he's always vibing to your little thumps when you toss and throw, wishes that he could do it too

he's front ensemble/pit, i hope we all agree on him being on the synths and marimba

he's a vital part of the band for sure even if he never seems to get credit but he honestly could care less

has been running synths since he joined, originally wanted to do the sousaphone but he wasn't built enough for it

also the front ensemble section leader, he's very efficient in managing the pit

but he's also clumsy as hell and will sometimes zone out and drops the mallet on the marimba or just entirely forgets wtf he's suppose to be doing on the synths

more than once he's nearly caught these hands from chan bc in chans words, "those were expensive"

with his partner:

whenever he sees you on the sidelines, he's always ginning because out of the corner of his eye he can see you jamming out to the music

everyone teases him (especially binnie) because he zones out watching you and drops the mallet on his foot

follows your every move carefully (and like minho), and he'll always give you advice, but he sugar coats it very much because he loves you and doesn't want to hurt your feelings

so i updated my haladriel textfic erase me today (part three is on twitter) and i’d love to talk about that.

This is the wikipedia page I made for Celeborn. I really wanted him to be a mashup of Jack Antonoff and FINNEAS, which is interesting bc I am a known Celeborn hater who likes both of these producers.

Some canon references are more obvious than others. His middle name comes from his canonical Quenya name. Galadhrim Music is a reference to the elves living in Lothlorien. I wanted to make this world bigger bc touring is a huge part of the story, so Beleriand still exists here. I decided to make the Doriath family a family of politicians and civil servants bc i wanted the sort of government/leadership/public service feel but without the ickiness of actually making him nobility (though I did decide that his ancestors should still be royal). His band, Hidden Kingdom, is of course a reference to Doriath itself, and their album, The Fall, is a reference to the sacking of Menegroth.

Almost everything about Hidden Kingdom was taken from Jack Antonoff. He had a punk rock band in high school that toured using a DIY booking guide and played in anarchist bookstores. The approach to writing is heavily influenced by FINNEAS’ comments about how he writes songs for his sister, Billie Eilish, and how his acting experience helps with that.

A little easter egg here that you might catch later on in this part of the fic is that Amroth Lorien is the frontman of the supergroup Tevildo that Halbrand and Galadriel are both members of. You can expect to see a lot more about Tevildo in Part Four, but if it isn’t obvious, they are essentially intended to be the Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene.

More easter eggs with Erase Me:

- Both Hal and Gal are openly bisexual characters here. They also are not strictly monogamous sexually, which is not a big deal here but referenced occasionally— particularly in the phone call in Part Three between H + G where it’s implied that they have history with the Loriens.

- The Soundtrack podcast was inspired by a podcast episode I heard that was a conversation between Stevie Nicks and Matty Healy. I also wanted the vibe to be very Actors on Actors. We’ll see if Galadriel makes an appearance on it in the future.

- Gal has ADHD, but I’ve never directly referenced this.

- Whispers From The Void = Crazy Days and Nights. The individual posting goes by K, any guesses as to who that is?

- Elrond is not just a music video director but a successful feature film director as well.

- Nothing is happening between Nori and Isildur, I just love fuckboy Isildur vibes.

- G’s solo music is a cross between Eloise’s album Drunk On A Flight (which is referenced frequently throughout the fic) and Phoebe Bridgers. I really imagine the stuff she’s working on now as very similar to the song Drunk On A Flight by Eloise and Moon Song by Phoebe Bridgers.

- The Dagorath Tour is partially inspired by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

- The controversy re: G’s drumming is a reference to Meg White of The White Stripes.

- G does actually DJ as well, but more so just for fun. I imagine her as the sort of person who seems to be able to name any song three seconds into the intro.

- H is the more “serious” musician in terms of what he’ll listen to, but his formal education is lacking compared to G’s.

- “Light” is intended to be a sort of cross between Perth by Bon Iver, Something by The Beatles, and Guiding Light by Foy Vance, in terms of vibes, not necessarily sound.

- Lindalë’s sound is inspired by Silversun Pickups, Metric, The Strokes, Oh Wonder, Better Oblivion Community Center, and Arcade Fire, but with a lot of diverse influences (prog, punk, hip-hop, jazz, lounge) and they’re a little nerdy musically. They are getting into heated arguments over time signature shifts and they will defend their overuse of seventh chords to the death.

- I imagine a favorite album of G’s being Escalator Over The Hill by Carla Bley & The Jazz Composer’s Orchestra, but she also would love Ctrl by SZA, Led Zeppelin IV, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West (though she wouldn’t listen to that anymore bc of him being awful).

- H’s music in my head I imagine as a cross between Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne, Iron & Wine, and Conor Oberst, with a splash of Big Thief in there. His favorite album would probably be something like Grace by Jeff Buckley or Norman Fucking Rockwell by Lana Del Rey, but he also probably loves OK Computer and In Rainbows by Radiohead and Actor by St. Vincent.

- There’s a bit where they talk on Moria Music about playing with Tevildo and that is almost entirely inspired by a video of Broken Social Scene performing Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl where Emily Haines says “I missed my friends” at the end. I also reference that line in an instagram caption of Celeborn’s.

- They are big into psychedelics and also regularly take MDMA together.

- Galadriel has threatened divorce many times but this is the first time she’s ever actually gone ahead with it.

- Nori is constantly looking for a new job but never actually takes anything bc she feels very loyal to H + G, even though she’s overworked and underpaid lol. She is not their first assistant, but most quit pretty fast.

- Hal has a Google alert set up for G.

- The divorce announcement was inspired by a number of celebrity divorce announcements, but none quite so much as the infamous Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin conscious uncoupling. Others include Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner and David Arquette & Courteney Cox — I just swapped out the band for references to their kids lol.

- The song “Palantír” is somewhat inspired by Cannibal by Marcus Mumford

not my 2 am ass waxing philosophical about the vgm jazz/remix scene (source: I’ve been a cellist and pianist for 10+ years and i like vgm. next slide)

when i was in high school it was nigh impossible to imagine video game music meaning much more than “silly haha chiptune” or “Brahms or Dvorak wannabe” (aka cinematic orchestra--think Halo, Uncharted, AssCreed, etc). chiptune i should mention has its own merits and real ppl not only being good composers but also working to find suitable leads or balance sound channels for that good ear-feel (Mega Man 2, Metal Gear 2, Chrono Trigger, OutRun, Street Fighter 2, this list has no end). I see a lot of parallels w/ how classical music “pros” in the mid 2000s/early 2010s treated old school vgm + how the bigwigs of warner bros view animators--the medium they accompany downplays their value to those “on top” who assign a niche’s value for all us peons on the bottom. thankfully for us, some stuffy old violin maestro telling us that Hades’s music "is derivative” wont stop Darren Korb from setting the room on fire (musically. though he might moonlight as an arsonist idk the guy)

but now in the 2020s there’s a full-blown out and proud community of video game rearrangers working to just melt minds with their breakdowns and solos. I’ve been listening to ocremix since middle school so we’ve been around, but with insaneintherain now working on original music for games, he joins the ranks of folks like Chipzel, Danger, + Lena Raine who have been avowed game fans and now work from that inspiration. almost giving back, in a way. Pat Bartley, Adam Neely, the Consouls, and the 8-Bit Big Band are a few of the names spearheading an increasing awareness for the goldmine of a source that is vgm, to the point where the 8-bit big band’s cover of Taking Over the Halberd won a fucking Grammy. you can no longer hold orchestra elitism (”true musicians dont play kiddie music!!”) over me because everyone can hear how good these guys sound. theyre skilled, driven, and by God do they love video game music. + if ppl insist that the Grammys are how we must measure musical worth, well, best of both worlds. they garner a reputation and the gamers get one! your awards shows don’t lie, do they...?!

like i know this makes me a corny ass fucker but passion has kept this scene alive, kept ppl championing for its representation in the wider media. I wouldn’t canoodle over 02′s theme from Kirby 64 if I didn’t love the source track, and insaneintherain wouldn’t make so much of his identity Pokemon jazz if he didn’t want to devote his heart + soul to what he grew up playing. from what I can tell this passion is insular--from and for fans. no head honchos telling us what racks up views or is truly meaningful, no. if we remix Snake Eater in this house it’s bc the original track makes me feel things, not bc my director says it’s valid for using a full orchestra or whatever (which it does, plus Cynthia Harrell’s voice makes me tap dance, but that’s not the point. the point is emotional attachment, something that a purely technical discussion about tone or timbre falls short of covering. nostalgia and passion, hand in hand)

i made an observation when i saw the documentary. i wanna know your opinions over it as well. so basically dont get me wrong i really loved all the parts which had louis and his current band, i think all of them are hilarious and definitely respect and enjoy louis' company a lot and i also think that louis admires them a lot and is close with them. now saying this i also think that all the footage which were used regarding 1d was deliberately dull??? like for example at the beginning when they're showing the bts content from 1d era, i know that moment was describing louis' feelings regarding the band disbanding right but regardless of that dont you think a deliberate decision was taken to include 1d scenes where they just dont look like they are close or like yk amicable......and then after that both the scenes with niall and liam it was majorly kinda awkward and short lived and not as exciting you would think it would be and its interesting knowing that liam and louis were hanging out in the hotel room and the camera person only came when louis was leaving liam's room...it definitely could be that all the 1d boys, like louis, have been on camera 24/7 so their purpose of hanging out surely wouldnt include a camera.....but regardless dont you think the way 1d scenes were kinda presented in the doc was really dull and almost included no chemistry amongst the boys...like i feel like they could have used better videos. cause the way louis talked about 1d in the whole doc was very uplifting and different from whatever scenes that were used. now idk if it was cal's intention cause i read your post about cal aurand yesterday or it was charlie's intention, tbh i am sort of questioning charlie's motivation a little bit ngl...with how he brought up the kid and all that. or it was louis' choice personally....or maybe im thinking too much out of nothing that could also be a possibility. regardless what do you think about this?

regardless of what was filmed and what 1d footage was available, it does seem deliberate the way in which the footage was included. maybe that's just how the boys were backstage for that final show (very mellow, not speaking to each other much due to what was about to happen). and imo facing simon in that moment (which... why was he featured so much in the first place) couldn't have made them feel any better. the way that the voice over and interviews overtop of the footage did compliment that "they're beginning to drift apart" concept as well. it is very interesting to contrast the 1d scenes to lt band, they are portrayed very differently!

going back to cal, it's clear he had involvement with this to the point where the footage was provided without much pushback? since when was sony ever okay with louis speaking out after his time in 1d? i find it interesting about this is i'm surprised he was allowed to release the footage (since it contains their likeness while as a unit of 1d). if you consider the input cal had early on with the boys stunting and being photographed like zoo animals, i'd say him being at the la n1 show made perfect sense. he literally choreographed and participated in the stunt being carried out just like he was doing in the 1d days ten years back. bc what else is bg if not a sony stunt that has backfired in every respect from the start.

i know not everyone agrees and that's fine, but it seems to me that charlie knew exactly what he was getting into when he was brought on for the project (mid 2019, possibly earlier). i think the intent behind this is to solidify the underdog and misunderstood member of 1d and dad image. ultimately what came of that was this documentary. i think of it like this: charlie is an employee of louis. louis meets this director and has this overarching thing he needs to get rid of. he also has a tour coming up and has a team who'd rather sit on their ass than promote him properly (i don't think they're unable to do much with his circumstance, but i think sjpr and seven are to blame in some respects). and so charlie agrees to the terms. he comes with louis to events and promo and starts to record and bg begins unravelling the way it does (hello b setting herself on fire, hello boobgate). so louis makes the decision to have this be apart of his next move. and somewhere in there sony/simco and whoever the fuck else said, yes. take our footage and our content and do your thing. but do it our way. (i.e. simon and xf being huge parts of the start of the film and NEVER portrayed negatively). obviously, charlie deciding to participate in this to this extent is something that he agreed to. i don't necessarily agree with that choice, it seems like louis confides in him and trusts him to do this for louis and his career.

thats all i really have for the ai and captain but ive been thinking about finally starting to work on the. millions of oc verses i have had for years. one of them (another day closer to death) is about this mansion of goths thats supposed to be sitcom-y and loosely inspired by cry of mann. a reporter (who is very much not goth) ends up going to the mansion to do stories on the people there because everyone else is like. too scared. hes also scared but thats not the point. theres the twins that own the mansion (otis and belle fredrickson) who inherented the mansion from their mother; theyre both necromancers and this is one of those series where like. witch/necromancer/whatever is kind of like its own species. tldr theyre immortal and are a few centuries old. otis (who just goes by fredrickson) is just a necromancer but belle also is the front woman of a metal band that fredrickson's husband gale is also apart of. the aforementioned gale is also basically immortal thanks to fredrickson and it was a case of enemies to lovers bc gale was literally hired to kill fredrickson but then fell in love. umm belle is also dating a girl named lilith and who is a breakcore artist. theres alison; who is a mortician and doesnt really get along with the rest of the mansion but ends up coming out of his shell a little when he meets the reporter (named peter). very badly hidden crush on him but peter is fucking oblivious as hell. theres also a little ghost girl that lives in the mansion named violet and she likes playing pranks on the others; especially on peter when he arrives. theres also an oracle psychic type that lives there named olga (shes lived there for as long as the twins can remember) and a vampire thats trying to hide that hes a vampire but is really bad at it (i dont remember his name. sorry). him and olga have #divorced energy. theres also the director who only goes by the director who basically does really experimental horror films that may or may not include real dead bodies who knows! he sticks to himself a lot but the others like him. he used to be married to a performance artist ( i dont remember his name either :[) but he uh. had a bad accident. during one of his performances. and is no longer alive! but when he was alive his art was intended to challenge peoples ways of thinking about dark topics like cannibalism and stuff. he was inspired by that one performance artist that pretended to eat a baby whos name i cannot remember. the director has an adopted daughter who i cannot remember her name either. all of my notes on the project are more or less gone. i think thats really it for the cast of this verse i dont really know what i want to do with it but i rotate them in my head sometimes.

My primary Resident Evil OC is Vera Kaplan! I debuted her here back in november 2022 and I mainly write as I'm not an artist! However, so far, I'm still at the re2 era of her journey, unfortunately 💔

This is a yap post so I'm not going to hold back on the spoilers and give things away bc it doesn't seem like I'm getting to write any of it soon and I want to let it all out 😭 so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS POST THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKIN G FOR !!!!!!!

Vera is a country-wide famous ex-wonder child of Umbrella's whose skillset revolves around tech, engineering and robotics! She's basically the Tony Stark of Resi universe. Her genius was too influential that she got to meet Oswell Spencer a couple times for photos and stuff to accept awards, even. She grew up in the Raccoon City Orphanage and later was "allowed" to be adopted due to her poor performance and depression by Marvin Branagh. He was deemed a safe choice because of his status as an employee of Brian Irons (also Director of the orphanage)

Marvin is the best dad ever, so he let her do whatever she's drawn to (because career and money would never be a problem for her thanks to Umbrella's support. her future was basically guaranteed) and she dabbled in a lot of hobbies and interests. Some of which is music and playing the guitar and joining a local band, and unexpectedly, guns? She "interned" at Kendo's place in her late teens 😭 she is a bit of a "jack of all trades" girlie

It appears as if the reason why she wasn't experimented on like the other children who were the victims of the orphanage was because of her diabetes that made her an unfit subject and the fact that she was a valuable asset for Umbrella PR and would later join their ranks as a researcher, but the real reason is that she was a subject for the later generations of Project W. If Wesker and Alex are like inner circle subjects, think of Vera as an outer circle "last resort" choice, her "undesirable" (non-white) genes pushed her out as unsuitable (she is Turkish-Turkish Romani). but still, albert-alex-vera are the wesker trio and that's supposed to be like the plot twist at the end of the first installment of her fic series 💀

Anyway, Vera does start to unravel the Umbrella conspiracy when she comes across exchanged emails of Irons as she's doing maintenance at RPD, and it all goes downhill from there. Dropping out from college and throwing her Umbrella scholarship down the drain for a private investigator license type madness. she has like hacker in her skillset, so she keeps digging and digging until she can't dig no more and finds out all she can, but physically can't do anything about it and the guilt weighs on her after the outbreak happens.

Vera is someone who’s been through a lot of abuse in her past from Irons, and it shows in how she acts and how she deals with people. On the outside, she comes across as stubborn and rebellious—she doesn’t like being told what to do and often pushes back against authority. But this isn’t just for show; it’s a defense mechanism, something she developed after growing up in an environment where control over HER was everything. Vera doesn’t like feeling powerless, so she resists, sometimes to her own detriment.

Her curiosity is both her strength and her downfall. As a private investigator who can have access to whatever she wants thanks to her technological abilities, her knack for digging deep and piecing things together is invaluable, but it also means she can’t leave well enough alone. She’s nosy—always asking questions, always pushing boundaries—and while this makes her good at her job, it also means she can get herself into trouble. She’s incredibly smart, almost too smart for her own good, and that leads to moments of overconfidence where she thinks she can handle more than she actually can.

Underneath all that bravado, though, Vera is carrying a lot of guilt. She feels responsible for things that aren’t entirely her fault, like her involvement with Umbrella or not being able to save Marvin. This guilt weighs on her, making her more protective of others. She doesn’t always show it, but she cares—deeply—and sometimes that caring turns into recklessness, especially when she feels like she can’t make things right any other way.

To keep herself together, Vera uses humor as a shield maybe way too much in re2. She jokes around, teases people, and acts like things don’t bother her, but it’s all a way to avoid facing the heavy stuff. It’s easier to make light of things than to deal with the pain of losing people or the fear that she’ll lose more. Deep down, she’s terrified of abandonment, of death, of failing the people she cares about—but she hides it behind a grin and a joke.

Despite all her rough edges, she has a good heart is too human, which sets her apart from albert and alex. She’s loyal, especially to the people she loves, and she’ll go to great lengths to protect them, even if it means putting herself in harm’s way. She’s not perfect, and she knows it, but she’s trying—trying to make up for past mistakes, trying to keep the people she cares about safe, even when it feels like everything is falling apart around her. In her own way, she’s doing the best she can, and that’s what makes her so human.

It leads her to get bitten towards the end of re2 and she hides that until the very last moment and manages to traumatize leon. like. REALLY traumatize him for life, it's not a passing remark it follows him even during re4 with ashley (like, re2 with vera is a grotesque parallel to his ashley mission) 😭 they had like a buddycop comedy dynamic going on, you know how it goes, funny confident flirty resourceful girl that doesn't do well with rules LIKES likes the goody-two-shoes, oblivious, sweet dude. leon felt like extremely responsible for her after her dad literally committed suicide to not be seen as a zombie by her and he really liked her as well, vera would literally ask him on a date if none of this would have happened, but you know. tragedy... :(

but she doesn't die die after staying back to end it all on her own. the project w virus brings her back from the dead. in canon people in the project w were distributed the activator pre-outbreak through sneaky means, and what happened to vera was that they switched her insulin medication with this. she got hospitalized and almost died in the e.r. but survived, and when the news reached alex and spencer, it was too late and the city was infested with zombies. so, in addition to the g-virus retrieval, hunk was also given the mission to extract vera from the city. so he does. that's how vera ends up in the hands of umbrella post-raccoon city destruction.

this is TOO LONG ALREADY SO TO SUMMARIZE, something something a lot of traumatizing experimentations that leave vera unable to step inside hospital or laboratory grounds without a ptsd attack and finding out what her "special ability as a wesker" later, which is literally tangled rapunzel blood that has healing attributes, alex and vera team up against spencer in secret to bring umbrella down and take and loot what they can from the wreckage. alex is quite literally in the role of mother gothel keeping vera by her side to keep her virus-induced illness under control and is doing her own thing scamming spencer, meanwhile vera is determined to bring umbrella down from the inside, and is secretly feeding information to the us government as codename "gravedigger" that can be used in the raccoon trials, but she needs the umbrella supercomputer umf-013 that has the secret files (and the red queen AI for herself)

along the way, leon of course gets to find out she's alive, freaks the fuck out that she's with umbrella now, shenanigans happen (the dynamic becomes grumpy x sunshine), albert in the shadows leaves the taking down of umbrella to vera because it's more convenient to his plans, vera gets to blackmail derek simmons (this action will have consequences) into making the bsaa happen, asks leon to come with her to save him from the grubby hands of the govermnent and gets rejected because leon can't let anything happen to her because of him, vera later goes on to become the weaponologist of the bsaa, creates her found family, and settles down in bsaa istanbul base, and one year later they reunite in valdelobos while she's on luis's and saddler's ass in yet another (unauthorized) investigation

Leon Tanner x Reader/Cadence

Ice Cream Date

Wooo my first fic for bcb and it's a Leon one bc I am nothing but a sucker for those undatables. And it's criminal that we didn't get more time with him, so I'm making up for it with this.

Also, it's relatively spoiler-free as I don't really put anything specific to the plot, just a line he says on the final route. Unless you count Leon as a spoiler himself, then ig spoilers, lol.

No use of Y/N or anything of the sort in this, but it is in 2nd person. Ending is also a tad bit abrupt, but I'm very tired so cut me some slack lol.

Band camp was... eventful to say the least. And even after the crazy chaos, there was still a lot of work to do as the band would have to work extra hard to keep it up and running. Which meant a lot of work for the drum major, band president, and the band director himself.

And coincidentally, you were one of those.

That's right. You were the drum major! Congratulations on surviving band camp, now you have to survive marching band and school on top of that!... No quitting.

But nevermind all that. Despite the exhaustion, excitement for band does trump all. And also... band lets you see the guy who has caught your attention ever since he helicopter-ed into Camp Bearpaw to fill the hole in the drill. That's right.

Leon Tanner.

The guy who cannot talk to girls without blushing.

But here's the thing: he owed you an ice cream date... Well, actually, you might owe him it after everything that's happened, but he offered to go out for it that one time, and by God you weren't gonna turn down free ice cream (again). And luckily it was Friday, which meant you could totally ask about his upcoming plans for Saturday and maybe score yourself an ice cream date with a buff softie?

You decide to approach him at lunch. Best time for talking and no doubt the hunger might influence him a bit. You see him at a table with a few younger kids (no doubt the ones who he bunked with at band camp; they latched onto him after that) and make eye contact. You smile warmly at him, but he just blushes and looks down.

Oh well, you won't let that stop you on your mission. You take your tray and sit opposite of him, psyching yourself up for this.

I mean, the worst he can say is no, right?... Right?

You decide to speak first, saying, "Hey Leon! How have you been settling in so far? It's been a bit hectic after... you know what, so I just wanna see how you're doing now that we're in a safe environment."

He looks up at you from his food and quietly says, "It's been going alright. Can't really complain after all that at band camp."

Oh, you see an opportunity.

You lean in a bit on the table and say, "Just alright? Anything I can do to make your experience here better?" And for effect, you bat your lashes a little bit at him.

And... just like expected, he turns into a blushing mess again. Got him.

"I, uh, well..." And he's gone. Lady's, gentlemen, and everything in-between, you got him.

You just laugh and lean back, "Leon, I'm just teasing you. You're so easy to fluster. Anyways! Real reason I'm here is to hopefully ask if you still wanna get ice cream with me and explore the mall? I know during the first weekend of band camp you wanted to, so I'm hoping the offer is still valid for tomorrow."

He smiles--a very cute smile, you notice-- and nods, which gets you beaming as well.

"Awesome! It's a date. Here," you pull out your phone and open your contacts, "Put your number in here and I'll text you more details after band practice!"

He does that, and you take your tray and head out. You doubt he'll actually be able to eat with you after that, so you decide to head off to your friends. And... okay, maybe you wanted to gush a little about getting a date this weekend. But only a little.

...

It's finally after band practice and you were home and could finally discuss plans with Leon. You shoot him a quick text, telling him that it's you and get straight to business.

So, if you're able, 1 PM tomorrow would be a good time to get ice cream at the mall! It will be a little busy, but that's the best time to go and people watch and go around the stores.

Sounds good! I'll see you there.

Score! Plans settled, but now you have to get an outfit. One that says "I care about looking good for this date-but-not-an-official-date but not too much so I don't look desperate." Which means you need some professional help, aka Susie.

You call her, stating it is an emergency, and she comes over right away.

"What's the issue? You said it was an emergency!"

You look at her and bring her to your room, "It is!... What should I wear tomorrow for my date for Leon?"

She deadpans at you for a second, but snaps into excited mode.

"Oh my god, we have to make you look great! This is your first date in a while, and Leon's such a cutie! You two would be great together!!"

You smile and laugh, "Hold your horses, cowboy! It's not even an official date as I don't want to scare him. It's just ice cream and touring the plaza and mall, that's it!... But I do want to look good in the off-chance he's interested in me in that way."

Susie rolls her eyes as she helps you go through your closet, "Yeah right, who wouldn't be interested in you? You're kind, helpful, determined, and a cutie. He'd be a fool to not want to be with you."

You both smile and laugh, glad to be able to bond over this, and continue rummaging.

And then it happens, you both find the perfect outfit, and Susie squeals.

"It's perfect! You have to wear that tomorrow, he'll love it!"

You twirl around, showing it off and checking it out again before saying, "And I love it too. Thanks, Susie for coming by and helping me with this!"

You see her out and she says, "No problem! Had to help my best friend with getting the man of her dreams."

It elicits one last laugh from you guys before she leaves, and now you have to clean up and hype yourself up again for tomorrow.

The morning of the ice cream date. Nothing has gone wrong so far, but you never know with your friends. So you cautiously get dressed up and check for any text messages from Leon saying he can't come (worst scenario) or the other boys trying to bother you (more manageable, but annoying).

And now, it was just about time for you to leave and go to your date. You take your car (quicker), and head to the plaza, all ready to go get your ice cream on with Leon. And maybe score another date-but-not-an-official-date, or an actual date with him? You sure hope.

You see that you arrived first so you sit on a nearby bench, happily waiting for him, but playing on your phone to not look too excited. Don't want to scare the guy off after all.

And then, you get the text.

Leon

I'm here. I see you on the bench.

You look up and see him staring at you, so you smile and wave. He blushes (qtypical reaction for him), and comes over as you stand.

He goes to say something, but as he looks at you he notices your outfit and his breath hitches and he turns even more red. He starts to nervously brush him arm.

"I, uh. I forgot what I was going to say... Uh, you look good."

You beam at him, "Thanks! You look good as well," you pat him on the shoulder, "Now, let's go get some ice cream!"

You both enter the parlor, which wasn't too full but there were a few other students from your school there. You ignore them and take Leon to go look at the options.

They all look delicious, but you can't have it all, so you say, "Mm, it all looks so good right now. Any ideas on what you'll get, Leon?"

He looks deep in thought (apparently getting ice cream is serious business), and says "Actually, I'm thinking about getting that pear flavor. It says it's their special."

You lean in closer to him to see what he's looking at, which he stiffens a bit at. You notice that it is their special and does look amazing too.

"Yeah... that does look good! So, two pear ice creams for us then?"

He nods, and you order for the both of you. Before you can pay, he takes out his wallet and does so.

It shocks you a little bit, "Oh! Leon, you didn't have to do that."

He shakes his head, "I invited you out here the first time, so it's only right that I pay."

Well... who are you to turn down free ice cream? You just accept it and get your cone, taking him to go sit outside under one of the nice parasol tables.

You both quietly eat your ice cream for a bit before you speak up, "So, have you made any other friends since moving here? Or have you gotten closer to your band mates?"

He smiles, "Yeah. Poptart," the nickname stuck after band camp, even after everyone learned his real name, "and I have been hanging out a bit more. Peter has been nicer to me now as well."

You smile brightly at him, "That's great! I'm so glad; I just knew you would be able to fit in with us."

His smile turns bashful and he quietly thanks you. And after that, you both finish your ice cream which means going around the mall a bit.

You take his hand--with permission of course-- and lead him around, entering a few stores and doing some window shopping. That continues for a bit until you reach a store you really like, the pet store.

You pause and stop, staring at Leon, "Leon!! We've made it to the best store in this whole place, the pet store!"

And that gets him excited as well, seeing as he loves animals, so you both enter the store.

It's a quaint place and the owner is friendly and takes good care of the animals, which is always good. They also know you, so that's another plus of being there.

The owner hears you and Leon enter, and warmly greets you both. You let Leon take off first and talk with the owner for a bit.

"This is the first time I've seen you here with a boy, and he looks new. Is he your boyfriend?"

You smile, "No, he isn't... but here's hoping, right? Oh, he really likes animals, though, so I was sure he'd love it here like how I do."

They chuckle a bit and pat you on the back, "Well, good luck then and enjoy your date. I'll be in the back if you need me."

And with that, you wander over to Leon who's looking at the cats.

You start speaking softly, "They're cute, right? They're like the highlight of coming here."

Leon nods, his focus on the animals.

"You know, if we get the owner back out here, they'll let us pet them. They're all pretty friendly, though a few are shy."

And that appears to have got him, as he looks excitedly at you. Which means you have to get the owner.

So you do that and now here you are, petting cats with Leon. You're both enjoying it, but eventually it has to end. You both help the owner put them back, bid them farewell, and leave the store.

And now it was just the two of you again, walking back to the parking lot where your car is.

You smile at him, "Well, Leon, I had a wonderful time with you today!"

He smiles back at you, blushing slightly, "Yeah, it was great... Thanks for inviting me."

"Well, technically, you invited me first. I just held you to your word."

He laughs a little and that gets you to smile more.

"I have to go now, but... wanna do this again sometime? I really enjoyed hanging out with you, and I think it would be great if we kept doing this."

He nods, "Yeah, I wouldn't mind doing this again with you."

You beam once more, and as one final send off before you leave, you kiss him on the cheek.

He turns bright red and his hand shoots up to the spot, and that's when you take your leave.

He was still stunned by that kiss even as you said, "Bye, Leon! I'll see you at school, Monday!"

But... it looked like he liked it, so score for you.

Here's hoping that your next date will go even better, and that you'll have a cute boyfriend named Leon Tanner after it.

in which i read a book but completely fail to discuss it

listening Bloody! Bloody! by Junie & TheHutfriends. self-described indie pop, incredibly fun chorus! the same sort of frantic plinky..banjo? undertones that i liked so much in my absolute favorite song of hers, The Consequence of Imagination Is Fear.

very good spooky halloween song. i truly do love this band so much for how fucking Weird it is.

And you’re driving with your hands, not believing all the bleeding, and they’re calling you- Bloody! And the knife sits gleaming in the red back seating, and they’re calling you- Bloody! And they’re all still screaming in your head, and their lips dead, calling you- Bloody!

there are a couple creatives where i'm like "yes i WOULD like a new Frog Detective/twine novel/something every year, where i have a marvelous time for forty minutes and it's a little self-contained experience". this band goes in the same brain bucket, bc it feels like it is as much an excuse to collage and make felt puppets as it is to release a new single once every few months. now i am projecting bc i do not know this lady or her process, but i would like more people to be able to make art where i the art enjoyer get a little thing every once in a while, without the artist feeling the crushing need to be a professional artist hitting it big in order to make the art and any sort of living also.

reading The Man In The High Castle by Philip K. Dick.

i had to think really fucking hard about if i wanted to talk about this book, bc like a lot of older scifi it critiques the problems of its time but is also very much a product of its time. and i then i remembered that i'm going to do what i want forever until i die :) and then i didn't really have time to even discuss this book much at all :)

The Man in the High Castle (1962), by Philip K. Dick, is an alternative history novel wherein the Axis Powers won World War II. The story occurs in 1962, fifteen years after the end of the war in 1947, and depicts the political intrigues between Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany as they rule the partitioned United States. The Grasshopper Lies Heavy is a novel-within-the-novel which is an alternative history of the war in which the Allies defeat the Axis.

i do enjoy how scifi, especially older scifi, often refuses to resolve neatly or at all. this one left me unsettled. this is not a bad thing! it is unsettled in a way that is un-fan-ficcable. it is unsettled in a way that even though Philip K. Dick planned a sequel, he couldn't bring himself to write one bc the research for this book was so depressing. i do think i gotta let this one percolate in the back of my brain a bit, bc i don't have any useful thoughts aside from "wow yeah this series of events is totally plausible and plays out in a very 'yup i can see that happening' way". this entry is more setting down a marker to myself that i can in fact read full length books. maybe even do it again

how did i find it: this entry came about through a perfect confluence of events: i read this all in one sitting (rare) after seeing it in a thrift store earlier that day (also rare) and thinking "this probably isn't a book i'll reread, does my library have it" (near-miraculous).

watching Ōtomo Katsuhiro, director of Akira, has done three...whatever the animated version of a book of short stories is. is it just an anthology also??? anyway i watched Memories (1995) back in july, adored it, half the soundtrack is on my regular roulette wheel of data entry music, and i finally looped back around and watched the other three anthologies he was part of this week.

didn't like them as much! it is eleven forty three pm as i write this so i will not be going into great detail. overall impressions only.

robot carnival (1987) i did not care for very much at all. i think it is the weakest overall of the four both in animation and in story. it did give me this baller screenshot.

neo tokyo (1987) absolutely off the fucking chain with animation flexes. stories overall were not as strong as memories (i am going to be thinking about the first short in memories until i die probably). i have never seen such a perfectly animated cat that nobody seems to have really giffed? unrelated in a different short, i have never seen fire animated like that and now all other animated fire looks wrong.

short peace (2013) i liked much more both on strength of animation and strength of storytelling. "possessions", wherein a wandering samurai takes shelter from a storm in a shrine to...discarded objects? charmed me the most.

playing Card Cowboy by a large assortment of people and published by Luckshot. available PWYW on itch and it's like three american bucks on steam. you're out seeking "Revenge against the Gunman who killed your dad, wooed your mom, and kicked your dog" in a procgen fashion gathering cards board-game-style to progress along a web of little location options. and the little opening animatic has the best royalty-free morricone i've ever heard

this is a very polished game with all the quality of life features and smooth art one expects from a card game. it wants to be a phone game really badly.

this is not a moral judgement or a dig at how fun it is, bc it's very fun, but the whole time i played it i thought about how much fun it would be to play on my phone.

at one point i had three bandits, a wife, a baby, a baby horse (the game did not call it a foal don't @ me), and a gold lasso. the next turn i got Blood Money from sending the foal off to compete in the rodeo.

this game is very easy to tell stories about like "oh yeah did you get the blood money from sending the foal off to the rodeo???" which is always super fucking helpful in both game discovery and selling the damn thing. extremely streamable bc it is procgen. i hope it sells a billion copies.

making having a fancy bathroom makes me feel like a rich bitch so i got a new shower head. the shower head of course did not fix the abysmal water pressure in this house but it does have an additional detachable head so possibly i will actually clean my bathtub more often. got to use a big fuckoff pipe wrench to take the old showerhead off which was fun. other than recaulking the little escutcheon to the shower wall (annoying) this was a fairly quick and painless process. suspicious. shower head here except i did not spend seventy five dollars on it, that’s ludicrous, i found a new in box one on eBay for thirty bucks.

in other news, acquired the Perfect double breasted trench coat in the Perfect length, it’s got the belt, the wool lining is intact, it’s in decent shape except for the horrible stain on the front. so it’s at the dry cleaners to see if anything happens. the armscyes are just a hair too tight for me in a thin tshirt to lift my arms over shoulder height without looking stupid as fuck so i may find a tailor if i ever want to wear it with a sweater or something. i cannot stress enough how much it is the perfect cut and the perfect length for me. i am willing to invest some dollars in a good classic trench coat i will hopefully have for the next twenty years.

also, dancer Steve who will talk anyone’s ear off that someone needs to put on Newsies, because his dream role is Jack Kelly. Steve being a triple threat, but he doesn’t get a lot of leads because he’s their only male dancer. He’s involved in nearly every production in Hawkins, because he seems to have every prop anyone could need in his house and he doesn’t mind the workout from set building.

director Robin, who naps during rehearsal but is still the best director in Hawkins. she has never written a single note down in her life, her vibes just direct the actors

I love this so much I am in bed kicking my feet and giggling!! Eddie would even volunteer to help with set production even though he hates it just so he can talk to Steve (which he doesn't do for days bcs he's so nervous).

ok. samwell college of music au. i wrote all four years let's go babey

eric bittle is this lovely southern tenor (sounds kinda like mitch grassi or ben j pierce) who posts covers (& sometimes originals, but always with neutral or no pronouns because he can't post anything that says he or him ☹) on his youtube channel and has major stage fright but is very talented; he also plays ukulele

he got into samwell college of music on a voice scholarship and his dad doesn’t exactly approve but eric was never the 6′2″ masculine football player he wanted anyway so why not go for his dreams

he auditions for the very competitive samwell men’s contemporary chorus (there’s like 20 choirs; chamber choir, jazz choir, a cappella groups (lax bros do a cappella), combined choirs, etc- smcc does contemporary pop/rock music) and while he’s very very nervous and shaky as he auditions, directors hall & murray see a lot of potential in him (with major grumbling from student director jack)

the group is small, for a chorus, because the point of the group is not a wall of sound but a focus on all of the very talented guys’ voices coming together in these gorgeous harmonies and basically they’re like one of the best choruses on campus and all the male singers want in

so there’s jack zimmermann, who of course eric knows because everyone knows who he is, he’s the son of bob and alicia zimmermann, both incredibly talented and famous musicians, and basically those genes were in his favor because he’s mega fucking talented

(jack was supposed to sign a recording contract to be in a band with his best friend kent parson when he was 17 but something happened between them and the pressure was too much and jack overdosed on something- there’s so many rumors no one knows what’s real- and kent signed solo in LA & went on to win grammys for his albums about a mysterious ex and jack disappeared for a few years to be a counselor at a music camp and reappears at samwell, knocking everyone’s socks off again like he’d never left, except with a renewed vigor and intenseness that freaks everyone out)

jack is a contemporary writing & production major, freaky talented and sings like a modern day frank sinatra, and he plays like 20 instruments and can read music like breathing air and writes songs like if he stopped he’d die; his music is folksy and mournful and he plays all the instruments on his tracks himself- guitar, piano, strings, drums- it sounds like a full band but nope. just jack. he’s intense

“we all get nicknames in this choir,” justin informs eric on his first day, “we’re those kinda guys.” so he’s bitty, which he finds vaguely offensive (bc he’s not that short!) but still cute, & the rest of the group is introduced to him:

“shitty” knight (voice like colyer) is a musical education major and an enigma of a singer with this awesome, earthy, raspy voice that’s really interesting to listen to and a very.... unique style & look; he writes cheesy but shockingly good raps about social justice topics and he will sing-lecture you if you’ve said something offensive (he also plays banjo)

justin “ransom” oluransi is a music business & management major with an angelic voice you can’t help but listen to; he’s sultry and has an incredible range and does runs like nobody’s business (with a voice like daniel caesar or leslie odom jr UGH)

adam “holster” birkholtz is a voice performance major, wants to be on broadway and it’s all he ever goddamn talks about basically, he’s a belter and has a lot of charisma and starpower and he’ll charm the pants off of you within one note; can also play piano and irritates everyone constantly because his regular volume is like a level 11 (voice like the frontman of my brothers and i combined w/ x ambassadors lead singer)

larissa “lardo” duan is at the local art institute because performing arts is not her jam and she’d much rather paint; she’s a barista at annie’s and supervises open mic nights and keeps the annoying choir dudes from driving away all her patrons

“i’m not even in your dumbass choir,” she says when the group gave her her nickname. holster just told her that she was an honorary member and then started sing-shouting a song at her about how good she is

bitty’s first year is hard because he’s talented and he works hard but he shies away when anyone asks him to sing outside the group and like, he can sing to a camera by himself but being on a stage with everyone looking at you and the sole responsibility of the song on your shoulders is terrifying and no thanks

jack does not. understand this. he’s been performing practically since he came out of the womb and he doesn’t really get performance nerves (what he gets is anxiety about how he did after he gets off stage that follows him home and makes it so he can’t sleep) - so he bothers bitty about it constantly like “you just need practice, you just have to sing by yourself a lot and then you’ll get over it” which like.... that’s true but it’s also hella scary and bitty’s like “no thanks!!!!”

but jack’s annoying and intense so he makes bitty do open mic with him every saturday night and it’s going okay and bitty loves his choir and loves his school and these new friends he’s making and he finally feels comfortable enough to come out to them during his second term

then during their spring choral showcase at the end of his freshman year bitty has a solo and he’s worked really hard on it and he’s feeling good- okay he’s completely freaked out but he’s trying to feel good- but when he gets up on stage there’s so many people and the stage lights are so hot on his face and he flips out a little and maybe he passes out from anxiety and stress right on stage and it’s terrible and he’s so embarrassed and ashamed that he ruined their set at the showcase

of course jack blames himself because “we shouldn’t have given you a solo before you were ready, i misjudged it, i’m sorry” - and they all feel kinda bad bc holy fuck they didn’t know his stage fright was that bad like they didn’t know someone could pass out just by being anxious to sing

he practices all the time over the summer and goes to his local open mic at jack’s insistence and it actually helps a lot because instead of a sea of strangers judging him it’s a bunch of people he knows and they’re all smiling at him and when he finishes his song they cheer for him and it boosts his self-confidence a lot

his sophomore year they have three new members- chris ”chowder” chow (voice like ieuan), an excitable music education major with impressive rapping skills, derek "nursey" nurse (frank ocean or leon bridges type), a songwriting major who can also play violin and guitar, and will ”dex” poindexter (like tom west), a production & engineering major who tried out with chowder bc he needed moral support and didn't expect to get in but impressed the directors with his voice

the year’s going pretty good, bitty’s still pretty scared of singing alone but more confident now and the open mic nights with jack haven’t stopped, so he’s getting better. and one night they’re hanging out at annie’s after closing waiting for lardo to be done so they can walk her home, and bitty suggests that jack sing with him one of these nights, and jack says he doesn’t know any of bitty’s songs and bitty says they can write one together half jokingly but then jack is like “yes.” with that Intense Look

SO they get together a couple days later in jack’s room at the house they all live in together (bitty moved in at the beginning of the year after previous smcc member john johnson called him- how’d he get his number?- and told him he could take his room if he wanted), jack with his guitar and bitty with his ukulele, and it’s a little awkward until bitty says jack should play him one of his songs

and, okay, he doesn’t really know what to expect because the only music jack ever released to the public was that one single he did with kent parson when they were 17 so bitty doesn’t even know if he has anything to play him, but he does- he starts playing these soft, sad notes on the guitar and opens his mouth and sings about being lonely and scared and unsure, about false starts and shaky ground and not knowing where you stand with someone, about expectations and lying awake at night and wishing so hard you were someone else, and bitty watches him sing and just kind of... realizes he’s head over heels for this boy and internally Freaks Out a little

he tries to put that aside and they start to write this song, at first it’s weird because jack’s like “all your songs are love songs i can’t really relate to happy love songs” and bitty’s like “listen... i’ve never even had a boyfriend i just write a bunch of sappy love stuff because it’s not about me it’s about whoever’s listening to it, they’re gonna project their own experiences on my music anyway so it doesn’t matter if it’s my real life or not” and jack’s like “alright while fake af that’s smart and i respect you” (what bitty doesn't say is that he writes about what he really wants which is to fall in love & be in a happy relationship)

they say they’re just gonna write this kinda vague sad song but they both secretly write lines about their actual lives so it ends up being really personal and real and raw for the both of them

they sing the song at open mic that saturday and the crowd at annie’s is never that big but they’ve never got a standing ovation here before, and some girl shouts “MAKE AN ALBUM” (it may or may not be lardo) and they both blush furiously and bitty’s like “... that was really nice, jack” and jack’s like “... yeah it was good good job you’re really getting some confidence out there nice work” (bitty: “THAT’S NOT WHAT I MEANT AAAAH”)

around this time jack’s really thinking about what he’s gonna do when he’s done at samwell, talking with his parents and his agent and looking into different record companies and deciding if he wants to sign with anyone or possibly start his own company- the head of a small company called falcon records in rhode island has been talking to him a lot, and jack talks to bitty about how he thinks it’d be nice to start small, and the record exec georgia and the producer marty had both been really nice and welcoming, and bitty’s so happy for him but also just... sad that he won’t be around jack every day after he graduates

THEN at a haus party celebrating their win of a local choral competition, who shows up but none other than pop star kent parson to Ruin The Fun

bitty sees the way jack pales when kent walks in, notices them disappear upstairs together and feels a little sick worrying about jack but chalks it up to the highly alcoholic concoction shitty and lardo had cooked up but nonetheless decides he’s sick of the party and goes up to his room and hears.... a little too much

and YIKES he’s standing right there and kent parson, pop star, two-time grammy winner, is looking a little rumpled and staring right at him and he puts his hat on and clears his throat and snaps at jack- “hey. well. call me if you reconsider. but good luck with rhode island. ...i’m sure that’ll make your parents proud.” and jack’s shaking, and bitty doesn’t know what to do but jack goes back into his room and bitty’s just kind of standing there like What The Fuck

so.... he kind of stews over winter break but tries not to think about it too much and he and jack text a bit and jack tells him to practice and bitty’s like “oh, you” and jack’s like “im serious” and bitty’s like “>:( it’s christmas”

spring semester starts and they're doing well in competitions and they go to semifinals and then finals for a prestigious collegiate choir competition and the pressure is mounting but they all are so optimistic and really feel like they're on the same page and bitty’s confidence is better than ever and then.... they don't win

jack especially takes it very hard, but then he also has signing to worry about, which everyone helps him with and he decides to sign with falcon records and start work on an album after graduation

speaking of graduation, shitty and jack graduate and it's hard for them but harder for bitty who feels like he's losing jack in a way, he knows how intense jack gets when he's making music and it doesn't feel like he'll have any time for bitty anymore so when they say goodbye bitty goes back to the haus and listens to his and jack's song and just cries

but, like in canon, dadbob has words of wisdom to impart and jack has an "oh" moment and races across campus to kiss bitty

they get together and the next few months are spent with jack working nonstop on his album (which tbh, he'd had many of the songs written already so it's mostly recording and producing) and texting bitty constantly and coming to visit him and playing him demos of all the songs

jack also asks bitty if they can record the song they wrote together & have it as a bonus track on his album & bitty says of course, so when jack visits they set up an impromptu studio and record vocals in the guest bedroom and this deeply personal song they wrote before they were ever together means so much more to them now

and bitty is so happy but so scared and sad too because jack is playing him these songs telling him "they're all for you bits, & a lot of them are about you" and he just doesn't know how he's going to keep all this love inside even though it feels like jack's career is at stake

he tries to shove it down and stay strong though, especially since he's now an upperclassman and they're taking on new members- connor "whiskey" whisk (voice like finneas or the male singer in valley), a music business/ management major who seems to hate bitty's guts and tony "tango" tangredi (like chaz cardigan), a jazz composition major who astounds everybody with his endless questions but also his ridiculously impressive composition skills & naturally perfect pitch (he can also play saxophone??)

i want ford in this au so fuck it she is a composition major with dreams to write scores for musicals and she stars training as a barista at annie's (aka training to corral the smcc)

the pressure of it all proves to be a lot and bitty and jack have their hi, honey moment where bitty's like i can't be this deep in the closet!!! and so they tell the smcc and also jack's label that they're together and that eases things a bit

jack's album comes out to much critical acclaim and shouting in the groupchat ("#1 ON ITUNES BRAHHHHH!!!!!!!!") and several months later, when smcc has already been eliminated from choral competition in an earlier round, jack is nominated for SEVERAL grammys including best album, song of the year, and best new artist

when the time comes he takes his parents and bitty on the red carpet which, everyone keeps being like "who are you here with jack?" and he's like "my family and my good friend :)" and yes it is awkward

jack wins... all three awards. it's the comeback everyone is stoked to see and when his third win is announced, he and bitty are so elated that they kiss before he goes to accept the award

his speech is basically just "um... wow. thank you. i just kissed my boyfriend on live tv. this is amazing and i'm so humbled. i'd like to thank my boyfriend and georgia and marty and my parents and my friends and my boyfriend"

obviously the press has a FIELD DAY with this but bitty & jack are honestly vibing and so happy that it doesn't matter untiiiillll bitty's mom calls and he has to tell her "mama i'm gay and i'm going on tour with jack this summer okloveyoubye"

the last few months of bitty's junior year pass quickly and he's voted student director which is a huge honor considering how much he struggled with stage fright and confidence & how he'll now be stepping into ransom & holster's shoes

r&h and lardo all graduate (the smcc basically crashes the art school graduation and all scream when lardo gets her diploma lmao), which is a bittersweet occasion and they all do a bit of tearing up

that summer bitty goes on tour across the u.s. & canada with jack and his touring band (snowy is a bassist, tater is a drummer and poots does backing guitar, he also brings nursey to play violin on a few songs) as well as georgia who's there to manage logistics

and tour is so fun & chaotic with many bi and rainbow flags in the audience that end up thrown on stage and draped around jack's neck and they spend so many nights in the bus drinking and laughing and fooling around on the guitars and bitty's uke and exploring new cities bitty has never been to before and it's the freest bitty has felt in a long time

summer ends though, and jack leaves for the uk/europe leg of the tour, and with the new school year brings a few new members- river "bully" bullard (voice like gregory alan isakov), a music therapy major who draws his own cover art for his songs, lukas "louis" landmann (like jr jr), an electronic production and design major with a penchant for EDM, and johnathan "hops" hopper (like keiynan lonsdale), a film scoring major who wants to write music for movies and video games

bitty meets and befriends some of the other student directors- shruti, sd of the women’s contemporary chorus; sharon, sd of the chamber choir; and edgar, sd of jazz ensemble (even chad l., sd of the all-male a cappella group)

senior year passes similarly to the comic; coach visits and sees one of bitty’s competitions, jack comes to madison for christmas, smcc does well in competition and goes to regionals etc

however… bitty keeps putting off and putting off gathering the songs for his senior recital

he has a hard time doing that because he’s so focused on the group and making sure they’re performing well and as they advance in competition, everything else starts to fall away

eventually the rest of the smcc has to lock away his uke and change his youtube password and FORCE him to choose songs for it and start preparing because he cannot graduate without doing this recital and doing well on it

he chooses (of course) a beyonce song, a few of his own songs, an ellie goulding song, and an adele song

with all that his breath hitches and his hands shake before he goes on stage, he does really well and his voice instructor prof atley tears up a little in the audience as does his mom

meanwhile smcc goes to semifinals, then finals, of the national collegiate choral competition they participate in

and i imagine bitty faces somewhat less homophobia in this au because i mean, he’s in the performing arts, but i think it’s still there and he also faces a good amount of classism from richer students and performers who think they’re better because they had the resources and money to be performing professionally from a very young age, and he has been practicing via filming himself on a shitty camcorder and posting it to youtube

but they still get there! and the national finals are fucking HUGE and a big deal and a little overwhelming

bitty’s stage fright is Present because this is the biggest stage and the biggest stakes he's ever had and he has a big solo in one of their songs so if he fucks up, he fucks up a national championship for his whole group and school

luckily though, when he steps on the stage with his best friends and sees his boyfriend and family and smcc alums in the audience and they perform their first song, a high-energy pop medley that always gets the crowd going, everything seems to melt away and it's just him living in this moment and singing his heart out

when it gets to the next song and his solo, he forgets to be nervous and belts it out, getting screams of approval from the audience when he finishes

(dex and nursey do have a duet together that they had to practice for many long nights in the practice rooms alone but that's neither here nor there)

their time on stage seems to last both hours and no time at all and then they're done, the crowd gives them a standing ovation and it's at least 30% r&h & shitty's hooting and hollering and jack's enthusiastic clapping that makes bitty & the others beam with pride

then it's just waiting, giddy and nervous beyond belief in their green room, for the judging to be over

after what feels like forever they're back on stage, arms linked together waiting and hoping for their name to be called and it is, they win and it feels like years have built up to this moment, and bitty tears up because years ago when he was fainting from anxiety at having to perform in front of people he never could've imagined that he'd do this, that he'd be the student director that led them to a championship

they get the trophy and a ridiculous amount of flowers from their loved ones and they all are just in giddy disbelief that this is happening, they're national champs!!! they are the best choir boys in the nation!!

they come home and the rest of the school year passes by so quickly that it's very suddenly graduation and bitty can't believe his college career at samwell is over 😢

(he and ollie and wicky take pictures together, o&w talk about how excited they are to devote full time attention to their band & wedding planning and bitty's just like wait you're gay??)

bitty got plenty of offers from record companies but he likes his freedom of creativity and he has a built in fanbase from doing youtube all these years so he decides to make an album independently (jack helps him produce & master it 🥰)

when bitty's album comes out about a year later, full of bops about being gay and in love and having struggled but come out the other side more confident than ever, it doesn't get any grammy nominations- and he didn't expect or need that.

what it does do is it resonates. it makes the rounds in youtube and queer internet circles; people his age reach out to him saying this is the music they wish they had as a kid and kids reach out to him saying he's a role model and they're so glad to have his music to listen to. his album is written about as an underrated gem that shines with queer brilliance and is sure to start a party when it comes on.

his parents may not fully understand the road he's chosen for himself but they're still so proud and promote the album as hard as any of his loyal fans (especially the one country-inspired song on the album that he wrote and dedicated to them).

and jack, jack who saw this album from its infancy to its release date, who took the film photo that ended up being the album cover, who worked with bitty to make sure his vision was realized exactly how he wanted it to be, is proud beyond words.

jack starts using his semi-abandoned twitter again to tweet "stream [album name]" every day and bitty retweets them sometimes, with just a "this boy. ❤"

and they're happy. they're good. they have come so far and they are reaping the rewards of all the hard work they put in to make the music that they truly love.

not kpop but i was wondering if you listen to fujii kaze? idk much about set design and costumes and all that but he seems soooo fucking refreshing from everything else kpop/jpop have been doing lately, and the mv videos all connect to eachother and its so good i adore it i wonder if you have any thoughts on him

I do actually! although prior to you sending this i had never watched any of his mvs and i didn't even know what he looked like. i listen to a lot of j-music in isolation, meaning i listen to whatever my spotify algorithm serves me and the couple of jrock bands that i am unhealthily obsessed with. so self admittedly i am not a good person to ask in terms of comparing him to the wider scene because i have NO clue what the wider scene is or what it looks like. i watched about half a dozen of his mvs and i like them! he has a really good creative team working with him (i'm not sure if it's all the same director or not) and i really like the colour grading! whoever does the editing has a really good eye bc they really know how to fill out the value and depth, which makes everything look really lush and rich. also great colour coordination in costume/production design etc. just good mvs all around.

2) one time taako's sick of the boner squad's nonsense and sits by krav at a staff meeting or like. a huge back to school meeting (long and boring and also long, but especially boring) and props his chin on the table and watches him take notes and he's like. you know what we could do. krav, nervous: what

taako: a MUSICAL

krav: oh lord

3) but here's the thing. krav loves music. he loves giving his students opportunities. he loves hokey bullshit. and also he is gay and taako is the most gorgeous guy he has ever laid eyes on and it gets hard to talk when he's around and all he wants to do is impress taako like. he finds himself FLIRTING??? HE DOESNT *FLIRT*

so he. agrees. to put on. a musical.

and they decide to go out (bc it's summer institute and the school year hasnt started yet) they go out to lunch together. because this is the highlight of summer institute is you get like an hour to go eat real food and bitch with the other teachers rock on. and krav is like IS THIS A DATE? this can't be a date. BUT IT'S JUST US?? two coworkers on a casual luncheon. it's professional. BUT IT'S JUST US???

4) and they hash out ALL the details and pick the musical. god what musical even. ill leave that to your imagination but it's either WAY dark or WAY cheesy. maybe les mis bc krav gets carried away abt it and taakos like (dreamy sigh) w/e you want my man. ill fuckin build you a chair barrier. chairrier. hows that show go again. so they get everything approved and theyre both like??? are we doing this??? we're DOING THIS and they just grin at each other so wildly

5) and boom the school year starts and they do tryouts and fuck it's a little messy bc taako's only done small plays before but they work together on it and taako swoons when krav plays the piano and they spend a lot of time together before and after school and during practices and all the high school kids are like.
