Weird/Dumb UF Comments from Across the Years

Feeling spicy and nostalgic for some of the bullshit I've had to put up with both in the old UF era and the new so I figured I'd compile some of the most insane and pathetic comments I've gotten on the fic (and on other fics about UF because people are really that dumb) and share them with you because some of these you really can't make up. These people speak for themselves in the way they act about a goddamn fanfiction of all things, so have a whole bunch of them (some with context, some without) for your enjoyment. Mind you these are primarily from across FF.net, AO3, tumblr asks, and DeviantArt, most of them are anon comments because Cowardice, and all of them are 100% fucking real things I've gotten in the past and had to look at with my own eyes so now you do too. So with that said, Let's go:

Let's start with some relatively recent stuff, like this DeviantArt comment I got the other day:

When you leave aimless nonsense comments on all three of an author's fics but in the end you still are basically screaming into the void

a year or so after the war, a young, recently-graduated doctor gets off the shuttle on ds9, very excited to begin working in a proper medical team in a proper space station as an actual, proper doctor

and they're so eager to learn and so starry-eyed and so full of enthusiasm and have so many things they want to do and ideas they want

and they're used to people finding them a little annoying in all their talkativity, and certainly they're not quite sure what doctor bashir makes of them because while he's very patient and kind, he doesn't smile that much and has a strange sort of look in his eyes whenever they start rambling on too much

but a number of the staff seem to take to them quite quickly and at some point they start overhearing themself being compared to doctor bashir? and not in like, a medical way, which would be ridiculously exciting because doctor bashir is extraordinary and they'd love to be thought of as that intelligent--

but no, it's more... well, it's like people think they've got a similar personality? and they just don't see it. sure, he's very passionate and dedicated to his work, but... excited? eager? not really.

they mention it to a friend, a bajoran nurse who's also recently joined the station. "lieutenant commander mayfield called us two peas in a pod," they say. "and I heard colonel kira joke that "whether or not he has too much work, cloning's supposed to be illegal". are we really that similar?"

"You're practically identical," their friend replies, taking them aback before they realise she's just being sarcastic. "On one hand, a tight-lipped, serious, solemn genius-war-hero, and on the other a bubbly, impetuous, far-too-excitable idiot doctor. Yes. I see the resemblance."

"Exactly," they reply, feeling vindicated.

"... Hey!" they add a few seconds later, realising they'd just been insulted.

they do wonder, though, why they continue to get these comments from anyone who's been serving on DS9 for years. maybe the doctor had been different when he was younger, but no-one can change that much, right? 35 seems practically ancient (well, at least decently middle-aged), but even so, they can't imagine growing up to be anything like their new mentor

finally read flatland for myself. read it in its entirety today during my free time on my 12 hour shift. really good book but maybe would have stuck more in my mind if i hadnt seen the janky 2007 animated adaptation several times before reading it. but then again my coworker saw me reading it and said they had tried to read it but it was too confusing trying to visualize everything, so i at least had a leg up there since all i could think of was the characters from the 2007 adaptation. anyway i think i’m going to rewatch it for the Nth time tonight <3

And speaking of kevin bacon, i read a recent interview of his where he said he wanted to experience living "like normal people do" so he asked a special effects artist to change his appearance to go to a crowded venue and said he absolutely hated the experience because no one recognised him, people pushed him and were rude, no one asked for a photo or gave him a shout out, he had to wait in line to get a simple coffee AND he didn't get any sort of benefit/discount at the venue and legit said he just wanted to go back home to get rid of the disguise and be famous again and like........ the layers of this whole thing 😵‍💫
