Your little girl nodded and settled between you and Marshall. You kissed her forehead as she held your hand tightly. Your husband smiled at you and mouthed « I love you » before turning the lights off.

In the morning, everything was back to normal, though Lily still mentioned the monster. You weren’t too sure how to deal with it and you were a bit scared you had unlocked a new trauma… you were anxiously staring at Marshall, who proved (once again) to be a quick thinker and the real genius in the house.

so this is a big, long rant about sexism in the idv community bc it's been on my mind lately and i need to put it out there. this is what i've observed after almost four years in the fandom and been stewing on for a long-ass time. if you don't feel like reading an essay on how annoyed some random enby on the internet is, then don't click the read more and just keep scrolling. don't interact with this post if all you're gonna do is get mad; i'm not here to piss anyone off, just make observations. and if this isn't your experience, good for you and please direct me to whatever circles you run in because i need to be there.

so, i've noticed that the idv fandom is extremely shit when it comes to how they treat female characters, and nobody really.. talks about it?? the only person i've ever seen actually discuss it used it as a way to drum up sympathy for ada. which, if you know me, you know really fucking pisses me off. because there are SO MANY OTHER EXAMPLES of sexism in this community, but no, clearly because we have sympathy for a male victim of abuse we're being sexist towards his abuser.

the thing is. there is so much to point to when you talk about how the fandom is sexist. it's very common to see female characters boiled down to just a couple traits. mary?? hot mommy step on me. michiko?? soft and gentle and demure (don't think i won't notice the weird shit about how that's a very common stereotype of asian women btw i see it). demi?? hot and drinks a lot. emma and lily are "uwu mentally ill babies". annie is soft. emily is either an irredeemable monster or a bitch, depending on who you're talking to. patricia is scary and mean. sangria's a girlboss, grace is soft and gentle, martha is spunky. and if you ask anyone their thoughts / ideas on these characters beyond those short descriptors you get nothing. i'm starting to fucking hate the word "girlboss" because it's all anyone says in response to like half these characters.

male characters are given alllllll the nuance in the world you can't talk to an aesop fan without them going into their endless headcanons / theories on why he's the way he is or how he's not actually that bad of a person or how cute he is or whatever. look at norton, or eli, or orpheus, or luca, or edgar, or joseph, or ithaqua, or any characters in that vein, and look at how the fandom treats them. look at the endless fanfictions and character studies and ships and x readers and headcanons. and then look at what female characters get. nowhere near that much.

i feel like margaretha and emily are the ones who suffer the most from this male-centric view by the fandom. they're characters who are inherently intricate, whose actions can't be explained away as entirely good or entirely bad. but that doesn't stop people from actively trying. they're going to act like margaretha wasn't being horrifically mistreated by her husband and just decided to burn down the circus for funsies or whatever. they're going to act like emily isn't trying so fucking hard to help emma and repent for what she's done. neither of them are meant to be read as black-and-white, but people will try because if they have to use more than two braincells on a female character they're going to implode.

meanwhile you get paragraph after paragraph about the intricacies of the argument between luca and alva. you get so many people analysing the relationship between norton and orpheus and how they're both kinda dicks but also both kinda have points. you get endless people defending joseph's actions bc his brother's dead and he's terrified of growing old / forgetting the people he loved / dying. you get so many fucking stories about how y'know, edgar's not that bad actually.

AND I'M NOT AGAINST ANALYSING THESE CHARACTERS!!! idv, especially in recent years, has been doing some great things with character writing. like, fuck 'em, they've got their issues, but they're still really good with some stuff and deserve credit. but don't act like it's not obvious how so many people have overlooked women (and poc, don't think i've noticed people ignoring the intricacies behind william and ganji as characters as well in favour of "himbo" and "bastard who cares", but i'm white so that's not exactly my place to talk) in favour of their favourite skinny whiteboy of the week.

they're that way with older-looking characters, too. if an idv guy has facial hair, you bet your ass he's also getting boiled down to his base traits. jose's an alcoholic, kevin is self-sacrificing and likes women, kurt is a little guy, kreacher is Awful, charles basically doesn't fucking exist anymore. but again not the focus of the talk atm.

it's just. so upsetting. esp. since most of my favourite idv characters are women but everyone i talk to about them is like "oh yeah demi's hot" or "aww annie's such a nervous little baby" or "god patricia's such a cool girlboss". and even when the shit they say is positive in a vacuum it still makes me so upset bc THAT'S NOT ALL THEY ARE!! demi is kind and loving and hardworking in the face of a world that only ever hurt her. annie's life has been an endless stream of pain and heartbreak and the only thing she really wants is freedom. patricia is literally cursed and is trying to find her place in the world.

also. i fucking hate ada but she falls victim to this too. as much as i despise the "you dislike her just bc you're sexist" thing and as horribly uncomfortable as she makes me, don't act like you haven't seen how her entire character is boiled down to how much she "loves" this man. don't act like you haven't seen how her entire character, all of her promise and potential, is forgotten in favour of that fucking trainwreck of a relationship. i bet half the fandom can't tell me anything about her other than her relationship with emil. emil suffers from this too, with his backstory and personality and life of abuse becoming an afterthought, but again, not what we're focusing on.

this is not an isolated thing or confined solely to the idv fandom. this happens in fandoms everywhere. but because idv is so close to my heart i feel like i really need to talk about it. there's so little content of female characters when there's fucking daily content of male ones. and don't get me wrong, i do like male characters. norton is literally one of my favourite fictional characters and i love talking about / analysing him. but i can guarantee a lot of people wouldn't be so interested in him if he was a woman.

sorry, just needed to get that off my chest. mandatory "this doesn't apply to everyone in the fandom" and "if this doesn't apply to you then i'm not fucking talking about you". we were so against the ashley wood collaboration bc of how much he sexualised michiko (and women in general) but like. do y'all really care that much?? bc i really don't think you do.

When Alex put her phone back in her pocket, the “old ladies” as described by Lily were getting ready to leave. When they reached the counter, they both gave the blonde a sweet smile as one of them pulled out a bill from her wallet.

“The chocolate cake was delicious as always, but did you guys change anything?” One of the ladies asked.

“Yeah Lily did!” Alex knew that her friend would be excited to know that someone had noticed. “She tried adding some chocolate shavings before putting the cake in the oven.”

“Now I’m going to have a hard time deciding which one I like most, but it was as good as the usual recipe. You'll tell her that it reminds me of how my mum would make it”.

Alex couldn’t help the smile growing on her face. The couple had never once been rude to her and her other coworkers when they would come. Lily was always glad when they would compliment her food and it helped improve her self-confidence as chocolate desserts were basically the only thing Lily had mastered. Alex was really happy that she would be able to pass on the message to her friend.

Alex was finally able to close the café after the happy couple left and because the day had been a slow one, she had had time to clean little by little so that she didn’t have much left to do now.

When Alex arrived home, Lily was waiting for her on the couch. The TV was already set up on the Cut the Camera YouTube channel and some snacks were waiting for the two girls on the table. Alex told Lily to start the podcast as she would just be grabbing a can of Dr. Pepper in the fridge. As Lily did so and clicked on the video, the first out of many “Good morning Campers” from Nick Sturniolo could be heard in the house.

The podcast first started with Nick, Matt and Chris talking about looking alike, which is something that never bothered them much as they know that their viewers are easily able to differentiate them – even Lily could do it without problem by now.

As they then mentioned the fact that some pairs of best friends sometimes looked more alike than them, Lily and Alex exchanged a quick glance before laughing. Even though they had been friends since middle school, they had barely anything in common regarding their physical appearance.

The podcast kept dwelling on growing up as triplets, regarding the impact it could have on their friends but also the annoying comments they would always get from people. However, as they were mostly talking about the negative outcomes, they decided to start listing the positive aspects of growing up with two other people. Nick, Matt and Chris all agreed that being a triplet was the same as having built-in friends who were here for you at all times.

A couple of minutes later, Chris highlighted the support he always felt from his brothers and that the three of them being on the same page is something they all feel lucky about.

Then, as the topic of constant comparison was being tackled, Lily and Alex were quietly listening. The two girls felt very close to the triplets in the way that they were learning about their struggles. Them being so open about it was an opportunity to understand how the Life as Triplets was. What hit the hardest was the moment when Matt summarised the small conversation by explaining that no matter if it's about similarities or differences, people still find a way to compare them.

The podcast eventually finished on a more light-hearted tone as Nick, Matt and Chris were laughing about their high school experience when someone would meet one of them without knowing that they were a triplet. This would lead to them pretending to be one another just for a two seconds conversation in the hallways – and then at the end of the day, debriefing who came up to talk to each of them.

“I just loved it so much, oh my god!” Alex exclaimed as the video ended.

“Me too, like– I absolutely adore the Wednesday and Friday videos but this type of content is so refreshing I don't know”, Lily agreed with her friend. “I feel closer to them, make it make sense I guess”.

“I get you don’t worry, I know we’re gonna have another perspective of their lives and they’re gonna enjoy giving it to us as much as we’re gonna enjoy learning about it.”

“Exactly like…” Lily thought for a few seconds, “an inside point of view of not only the Sturniolo Triplets but simply Nick, Matt and Chris as people, just individuals. This is what they're trying to make people realise, they're not only triplets – even though that's a bit of their brand I guess – but they are also their own person.”

The two girls were just really excited to see more of this new project from the triplets, although Alex had to share some semi bad news:

“However, I have no idea if I’ll have the motivation to watch an hour of podcast every Monday when I come home from work”.

“Oh yeah, I understand”. Lily put a comforting hand on Alex’s shoulder while trying to find a solution. “Just pick a day and we’ll catch up at that time!”

“I mean, I might not even watch it weekly if I’m honest so– I won’t mind and it might actually be best that you watch them whenever you want like when they come out if that’s what you prefer and I’ll postpone my ‘watch podcast sessions’ until I have enough attention span to listen to them for a whole hour”, Alex explained.

“If that’s okay with you yeah I’m fine with that”, Lily let out a smile. “We’ll still have to discuss it obviously”.

“Of course”, Alex immediately agreed. “Lots of new info we’ll have to talk about!”

What they didn’t know yet is that watching the next podcasts on their own would finally enable Lily to choose her favourite triplet as she would realise that one of them might be a bit too relatable for her taste, and maybe a tiny bit too attractive on camera.

Her name is Allister (just like me bc it's the best name ever!! defiantly not cus I'm bad with names!) and she's a member of Jabberwock (and by proxy, a ghoul)

Allister's stigma is kinda similar to Jin's? just a little. She can compel people to do things, but it doesn't work best on *people*. Her stigma works better on lower-intelligence creatures which is why she's so good with animals.

Also it's not apart of her being a ghoul, but shes immune to almost all poisons, venoms, and disease cus she's a special snowflake!! She often pesters Yuri to do research on this condition of hers so she has an excuse to hang around Mortkranken and see Jiro.

Allister is a transfer student from America. She moved to Japan after a certain incident... *foreshadows tragic backstory*...

Her special artifact is a butterfly knife that can shrink and grow. It's just barely sentient , so she can control it with her stigma. She often uses it like a boomerang. She also named her artifact "Billie"

Allister is incredibly researched in Cryptozoology and all matters relating to the undead. She's also pretty good with just regular zoology and biology, but she sucks ass in everything else.

She takes care of an anomalous octopus she claims was "gifted to her by The Mighty Cthulhu" (she found it while on a mission). Allister decided "this is my child now" and named the octopus "Kithy". Kithy isn't a baby kraken like Calamari, but he's relatively the same size. Kithy isn't dangerous at all, just very, VERY mischievous. Allister's stigma is why she's such a good candidate to be Kithy's caretaker and in Jabberwock in general. Though she doesn't really have to use her stigma on Kithy since he sees her as her mom anyways. She prefers to work with reptiles, but she loves all animals.

As you may have noticed, Alli is an emo kween 🖤🩸⛓️ She accessorizes to high hell (ignore that she doesn't have many in the artwork) and enjoys pushing the boundaries of the Darkwick dress code >:3

About that tragic backstory I teased a few paragraphs ago.... She left America because her vampire fianceé was murdered by her rival, Lucy. Lucy is this bitch that just likes to fuck with Allister cus she can. "haha I killed the women you were gonna have turn you into a vampire and marry". Typical Lucy shenanigans!!!

Allister, unlike me, is not a lazy decaying zombie, so she does her part to help around Jabberwock - mainly trying to pick up Ren's slack. I imagine the two of them have a sibling-rivarly-like relationship. Also their rooms are right next to each other so they like annoying the other with their music/movie volume.

Allister gets along with the other members of Jabberwock too - she gets along with most people. Except for the Sinostra members.... she despises them for being "the cool ones who get red in their uniform". She also doesn't really like Yuri that much but she sucks up to him anyways so he's more likely to let her hang around Mortkranken

Speaking of uniforms- Allister is constantly changing her fit depending on where she's doing. There's her school uniform, of course, and The Jumpsuit..., but she also has a casual fits she likes to wear when working around the park, usually made up of a band tee and jean shorts. Whenever she's loitering helping out at Mortkranken, she wears a cute little red velvet bodycon dress and a lab coat. Whenever she's out on missions, she goes all out on the wardrobe too. She's a little fashionista ✨

final tidbit of lore for her - Her favorite flower is the Spider Lily, which is also the nickname Towa calls her. There's a lot of meaning to spider lilies. Rebirth and renewal, eternal separation, paying tribute to the dead, and I think all of those really suit her.

I put a lot of love and crying over my lack of art skills into her, so I hope you guys like her at least a little bit 🫶🫶🫶

I got Dream Thieves sooner than I expected! It's good to get back into the groove of the series.

I definitely missed Ronan and all the moments where it's revealed how sweet he is and how he comes off as mean or rude because he is protective of the people he loves. I particularly appreciate his relationship with Matthew (such a golden retriever, the sweet boy!!!). I almost wonder if his rough exterior is perpetuated by the way people treat him- like even the way Calla calls him "Snake", surely that must continue a cycle where he feels the need to outwardly be a "bad boy".

Golly gee, I forgot everything Blue goes through in this book- kissing Noah, breaking up with Adam, her night car ride with Gansey. This girl sure has the romantic drama!

It does make me sad, though, how Noah kinda loses his importaces after the first book? Like, ofc he's still there and the catalyst of it all, but... he's a fading boy.

Also, I know the whole point of Adam's story is that he's changing because of Cabeswater and the power/influence waking the ley line gives him. (Maybe even the confidence to pave his own way in life!) but the line about him and Gansey being on perpendicular paths, not parallel ones, actually hit so hard. Like yeah... sometimes life's that way, and it really does suck, and you just have to keep on living it, even if your best friend has to follow a different route.

(I forgot Kavinsky died, but whoooooops. I also kinda love and hate his role, like ik he kinda has to be there for Ronan's Adam awakening, but also... I feel like he really pulls Ronan into his toxic circle before he goes out.)

Ronan 😔✋ he was going through it in this book and I also think it’s bc he’s just always feeling like he’s so other and doesn’t fit into this world bc of his dreaming and everything (especially given greywaren) So yeah Ronan goes through life with a hard exterior bc I think after his father’s death, he has the stress of making sure he doesn’t become a cause of another one. He’s had to learn to keep his distance and try not to care but he cares so much and it fucks him up inside. Also the tension between him and Declan and how Matthew ironically tethers him in this world bc Ronan loves him so much and after Declan’s pov in the dreamer trilogy the lynch brothers will forever have changed me.

But then I was also like Adam just wants to be loved and to be wanted and blue DID want to kiss him but she didn’t want to risk it cuz like imagine you kiss a dude bc you think ur not soulmates and then u end up killing him anyway OOF so their breakup was so angsty but much needed cuz they just were not ready for each other (Adam bc he was just getting frustrated blue was keeping something from him and Blue bc she wasn’t ready to tell him about the curse)

So my sister introduced me to Character AI (specifically this one Milgram one) and I've been dragged into hell please help I can't stop doing it

I'm explaining the plot of this one under the cut bc its fun and silly

This one has like all the prisoners in Milgram and it started of with me noticing Muu and Haruka holding hands and blushing so im like okay i guess thats happening (im not big on 0104 but im not like dead against it) (this scene did make me ship it a lil more). So I went to tell Kazui about it and hes like "yeah Haruka's like in love with her, I kinda wanna help him confess" so I'm on board, and we talk to Haruka. I give him a bunch of flower options to give her and he picks white lilies, so we get some from Es and he confesses with them. And she says yes, then kisses him, and me and Kazui are there like. yep success we're so cool.

Then I head off to the dining hall and find Kotoko, who's having love trouble with Mahiru (I decided it was Mahiru bc 0610 superiority) bc they held hands and. gay panic. So I'm like "yes bestie she likes you back, go talk to her." and she does. Im not there for that one tho

Then I talk to Yuno, and she's like "hey im just waiting to meet with fuuta" and I can tell its trying to say she has a crush on him. And while im totally down for some 0203, I gave myself one goal this rp and it's to make 0309 canon so I fucking. noped that one immediately. And instead she was like "yeah i know he likes anime (does he? he does now) and I really wanna ask him about attack on titan (character ai picked that one idk) but im nervous because he might like be annoyed at me" so i cheered my girl on. Review of the making of the map by fox_pitch

I'm new to marauders, this is the second fic I've read.

Summary: I liked this fic, a lot. It was a fun read and I really liked the progression of both Wolfstar and James/Lili (is it Jilly? I can’t remember). A bit less angsty than what I usually read and some parts felt underbaked, but the author kept my attention INCREDIBLY. I stayed up about four hours later than I usually do binge reading this. Very good.

I liked this fic, a lot. It was a fun read and I really liked the progression of both Wolfstar and James/Lili (is it Jilly? I can’t remember)

I do feel like it was a little too light at times, there wasn’t a whole lot of grey area morally, and a lot of big issues weren’t fully fleshed out. I wish they’d dived into Regulus more, and Snape. I wish they’d addressed Sirius’ use of the Cruiciatus curse, and I wish they’d address Dumbledores failings more directly

Werewolf shit was fantastic to read, the angst, the fear, the violence, the drama. I thought the transformations were excellently done and I really enjoyed the progression of them figuring out the roaming/playing

Hogsmeade passage shut off? Strange.

I did not enjoy that I cannot be sure they are safe. That’s a benefit of post-hog warts fic, if its truly marauders James and Lily often don’t die.

Overall very happy fic. I did love the aggressive use of drunkness as a plot device, I liked Lily’s characterization for the most part, and it was pretty addicting in the middle.

I thought Characterization was good, not fantastic but definitely good. Peter threw me, not very likable. It’s hard to do him correctly and have him add worth to the story, but I just did not like him the whole time, and I felt like Remus and Sirius both didn’t care for him and found him annoying.

My rankings are not supposed to be biased. Horrible shitty fic would get like a one, something readable but bad would get a fourish. Most fics that I read will be around 7-9 simply because I sort by Kudos and get recs from misuss so they’re better quality to begin with.

Great light silly read, with just enough depth to keep it interesting. I could see myself re-reading this fic once I get to know the marauders better.

Also, I do not like the fanart in this fic but I'm sure that's not universal. The artist is credited within the fic but I'd like to tag them here just to acknoledge the hard work that went into it. I checked them out and ADORE some of their other work, this one was just not to my liking. They have some percy jackson shit up that EATS.

I've already answered this one so I'll give a more specific answer here, most of the time I'm mistaken for about 14-16, I think mostly bc of my height bc people can't shut up about how little I am (which is weird bc I'm not even that short?? I'm 5'4" that is average for an afab person)

YES I do want my body to be very decorated so I do consider what I'd get a lot but realistically... I probably won't get any lol I'm too scared but anyway! I'd get some ponyo fishies on my ankle and Aces signature on my wrist and a fawn on my back or chest maybe and some lilies of the valley on my hip or something and maybe some field mice and bunnies somewhere yeeee

MHM I have a few, I had my ears pierced as a baby but I don't count that one bc lobe earrings give me sensory issues so I never wear them. but I do have a nose ring on my left nostril and 2 more on the top of my left ear (I was going to have three on my ear, but realized with the nose ring, that'd mean 4 piercings! and that's an Unlucky Number and my ocd ass (literal, not hyperbole dont worry im not one of those ppl) had to make the decision of "either bring it up to five by getting an eyebrow one or cancel the third one" so I just canceled the third one bc i dont really want any more)

i can’t really get over how many people are buying into the thought that ethan is like fully obsessed with ariana and is sitting by the phone waiting for her to call and stuff like tht. i get that most people only know of him bc of his link to her but i wish people would understand that not everyone in the world is as brain rottingly obsessed with ariana as they are and that sometimes people, even people who know ariana personally, have lives outside of her. i personally don’t think ethan is like head over heels in love with ariana and obsessed with her and will do anything to be with her, and i think that the people who believe he is are blinded by their standom. i agree that he’s a complete dunce for blowing up his family and whole life for the foreseeable future to jump into bed with her but i genuinely don’t think he did that with the intention of them riding off into the sunset and living happily ever after together, consequences be damned. i think he had a severe, stupid lapse of judgement (maybe brought on by other circumstances in his life/marriage like you’ve said) and is sorely paying for it now, but i absolutely don’t believe that he chose intentionally to throw away his family and reputation to be the next mr ariana grande thinking he was special and she’d change her ways for him or whatever. and like that other anon said him seeming to settle back down in nyc again seems to prove that; I can’t imagine ariana up and moving to nyc just to be with him, all of her music connects are in la and she’s working on a bunch of music stuff rn and there are rumours she’s working on her next album, plus we already know her team has her as booked and busy as possible to try and put as much news and distance between her and this scandal as possible. they’re even more incompatible than ethan and lily (we’re guessing) were. and it’s seeming like by staying signed in to do spamalot he’s made his choice, especially since someone else rightly pointed out that he would have to have auditioned and contractually agreed to do spamalot a while ago; if he had plans to be with ari long term knowing her lifestyle and all of the things she has in the works in la why would he make his roots in nyc for the foreseeable future?? i dont think he loves her i think she was a good distraction, probably made him feel real special, since she’s one of the most famous women in the world, and she probably wanted someone other than her husband and just chose him and they were sort of the perfect distraction from each others marriages/real lives.

Yeah Ethan definitely isn’t obsessed with and in love with Ariana. Like I’ve said on here before, Ethan has known Lilly and her family for many many years, so even if my theories about them having problems in their marriage is true, it’s kinda hard for me to imagine him just throwing this family away just to be with Ariana.

And you’re right about them being very incompatible. I’m sure they enjoyed their on-set showmance, but their relationship would never work in the real world. Like you said, he’s clearly made his choice considering he’s still doing Spamalot, which will keep him in NYC for at least the next year or so.
