keigo’s secretary tells him that he absolutely cannot skip the department get together after work today. they’re welcoming a new employee to the commission, and he needs to show his face.

he’s so tired. he’s not in the mood. but he goes anyway—he’s president after all. at dinner, he’s all smiles, chatty and pleasant. he makes small talk with you, the new employee, and counts down the minutes until he can make an excuse and leave.

“karaoke, anyone?” someone shouts, and they’re met with excited shouts of agreement.

keigo’s forced to tag along with them to a nearby karaoke room, despite weak excuses that he’s too old for this, he’s in his 30s.

he sits and watches as his department eggs you on, pushing you to be first to sing as the newbie.

you’re good-natured about it, agreeing easily. you choose an upbeat love song.

when you begin singing, it’s like someone’s trailed their fingers up his spine. reached into his chest and sent a shock into his heart, jumpstarting his system.

he doesn’t have wings anymore. doesn’t have his enhanced sight, his sensitivity to sound anymore.

but maybe he’s still a bird, inside, caught as he is by the notes of your song, the sweetness of your voice.
