thinking about how my usual go-to intersex dirk is affected by cooercive gendering in both the beta and alpha timelines.... and just gender stuff in homestuck in general.... cause the timeframe really counts. where babydirk lands temporally really makes or breaks this guy and his rship with his body. dirk as a character is so concerned abt how others percieve him that he wears his interests and hobbies like leather armour. he wears the projected images other ppl have of him more than he just, yknow, is

dirk in the beta timeline wouldve been fostered and was CAMAB, but his puberty started doing Unexpected Things, so they took little bro to the doctor so he can have his manly male puberty 'fixed'. bro would spend his whole life directly under the thumb of hegemonic cismasculinity, and he would know that if he adjusted even an inch, just to shift his weight even a little, then he suddenly wouldnt be Man Enough. and the blowback for that would be terrifying for him. hed be being slowly suffocated by the adults in his life and lil cal constantly whispering into his ear. this would be part of bro's experience with being groomed for sure

dirk in the alpha timeline however would be a free range kid. he wouldve grown up basically genderless until he figured out how to peruse the dead internet and discovered what boys and girls as cisgender concepts were. alpha dirks problem wouldnt so much be that hes directly under the thumb of Cis Manhood, but bc hed be desperately chasing after the ghosts of communities long dead. hed be directionless. he assumes hes a boy, he feels like one a lot of the time, but is he really? he keeps finding conflicting information on what Being A Man is, what Being A Woman is, what being Anyone At All is. hed chase after cismasculinity bc itd just feel the most familiar to him. he'd fall into the traps chrisofacist gender rolls laid out for masculinity bc thered be no one around but himself and his own very fallable perspecetive on this stuff to help get him out of it. and roxy is in the exact same boat. theyd have no idea how to even START talking about this except through the pidgeonhole of compcis

and its interesting too cause there IS talk of gender in the alpha session, but its from calliope whos also very very very removed from human (and troll, bc theyre analogous in canon) gender in the first place, eerily similar to dirk and roxy and their particular brand of isolation from humanity**. callie very explicitly represents the side of fandom that is good-faith exploration of canon, but whos too married to their own fanon and always more biased towards it over canon. i love callie so much but shes my biased and unreliable queen haha. what she says about gender, esp supposed gender-locked classpect stuff, isnt nessicarily, actually true. and thats REALLY cool bc of course everyone is a little biased about gender stuff and trans theories. its so personal how can we not be yknow?? and we experience other ppl through our own lens, having even residual biases (just favouring pink moreso than blue for example, im not talking abt bigotry) is just really normal imo. callie's a really good example of this. she knows shes a girl and loves being a girl, as she fuckin should, so she holds a grain of bias towards femininity and womanhood

**normally i would include jake in The Social Isolation, but again, where the alpha kids landed temporally REALLY makes a difference. jake is also completely isolated but he has an active and current internet to dig through. i wanna explore jakes relationship w/ himself more often but my brain is so full of dirk and roxy and callie its, well, its bias LMAO

Blackpink's rumored disbandment is such a disappointing thing to me. But at the same time, I cannot say I'm shocked.

Blackpink is an insanely talented group. They are attacked a lot by other fandoms, but that's quite normal when you reach the level of fame they did.

Yet no group is meant to last. Yes, they're a girl group, and can be active a lot longer than a boy group can because of the mandated military service, but with as long between the break points in YG's promotion of them, they're bound to start either losing faith in the company or want other things to do.

I do not agree with people calling Jennie or Jisoo "lazy" or "stiff." I would love to see these people try and do half of the things Blackpink does while surrounded by thousands and thousands of people.

I'm not even a blink. I just occasionally listen to Blackpink's music on the side, but I know their impact. And yes, their impact is something many people debate, but you cannot discredit them for their achievements.

People talking bad about Lisa for her French boyfriend (I do not remember his name) is wild. "Oh, he's not even that attractive." So what? If she likes him, and in a lot of her newer pictures she seems a lot happier, then so what? As long as she's not visibly unhappy with him or being mistreated, is it really any of your concerns?

I do not believe Blackpink has to or should disband like so many K-Pop fans have been saying. But it's been seven years. Most groups don't continue after that. The idol industry is a hard place to survive and the conditions are not great.

But if they chose not to resign, it is their decision. It is certainly sad to see such a beloved group leave, but what you should do is support them.

Because why should they have to continue something that they don't want to?

People have talked so poorly about members for years. K-Pop fans love to use Blackpink as a punching bag, especially Jisoo and Jennie. That is bound to take a toll on the member's mental health. And there is only so much one can do. When the toxicity goes so far, the only thing you can do is cut it out.

K-Pop fans love to bash idols and then get upset when their actions start to show consequences.

And the fact that I've seen people on TikTok complaining about this? Blaming it on the company or certain members? It's as if people cannot understand that Blackpink are all adults. They're all adults who have actual lives outside of the persona they play as an idol. They're actual people who deserve to have freedom.

Shouldn't you be happy for them and supporting them in their future endeavors instead of bashing them in the moment for showing even a bit of supposed hesitance?

tldr; Blackpink's rumored disbandment is sad but is not something that people should attack the company or members for. Each member should be supported for whatever they chose to do going forward.

I'm going to preface this story by saying: I don't necessarily believe in karma, but

I may have been walking through today with a vague sense of disbelief tainted with unkind smugness after my tiktok fyp was flooded with poor fans who tried to get presale ticket to one mr n. kahan's new tour only to find that demand was through the roof and GA pit tickets were seriously going for $300, in presale, and even the "worst" tickets in the lawn were going for $70

and while I undoubtedly think it's deeply unethical for both platforms (thanks ticketmaster) and artists to allow such dramatic ticket cost inflation, I also generally don't relate...

I (VERY LUCKILY) gravitate towards smaller acts, and the most I've paid for a ticket all year has been, like... $90 for a ticket to beyonce, which got cancelled and I was refunded lol. if I look back at all my receipts from shows this year, most have been around $50/ticket after fees, and several have been closer to $20. my favorite show I've seen all year was a $15 ticket.

it's mostly luck—I tend to like smaller acts, and I've been seeing mainly rock acts this year, and those tickets simply don't run as high as pop acts. and part of me is honestly very grateful that I haven't been swept into any of the really recent huge acts.

I think of all the people scrabbling for boygenius or taylor swift tickets and how much money they've had to shell out... how a lot of them don't even GET to see the acts they want to see because they've been priced out or tickets sold out. I can't remember the last time a show I wanted to go to sold out lol. maybe bastille in london?

and again, it's just a matter of luck that I'm not really into any of these megastars and therefore don't have to compete in the gladiator arena to try to see shows I want to see, but sometimes luck manifests as a feeling of self-satisfaction, you know? who among us hasn't experienced a little self-superiority from time to time.

look, if YOUR tiktok was flooded with people saying concerts have been awful since 2021 (including rock and metal shows), but every concert YOU'VE been to since 2021 was amazing and the crowds were really good and you always got tickets and it never broke the bank, you'd feel pretty validated in your choice of musicians and the crowds they attract too, alright?? sue me! I felt frugal AND undeservedly clever!

i did my best to make the fic as funny and in character as possible! in make, the only reason i made it aside from wanitng that good ole crossover "hey wtf" was that the rise characters were always boiled down to things that they werent (and i could go onto a whole rant about how fandom characterization is so far removed from their actual characters that it is the sole reason i dont really interact much with the fandom and make my own content but thats not what this is about) so i am VERY glad that you enjoy how i write them!! i really wanted a chatfic that was in character as well as funny and im so glad i pulled it off!
