Some of you forget that the song used at the end of The Christmas Invasion

WAS SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN FOR DOCTOR WHO.

It’s called ‘Song for Ten’ and in the episode it’s sung by Tim Phillips, but on the soundtrack it’s sung by Neil Hannon. I personally prefer the TV version as it feels more triumphant and full.

And what makes it better, is that it’s written from 9/10’s perspective! The TV version only goes over the first half of the song, the happy part, it’s about the doctor and rose!

But the second half… oh goodness. ‘So have a good life, do it for me, make me so proud, like you want me to be. Wherever you are, I’m thinking of you, oceans apart. I’m not trying to glorify or romanticize whats happening in this country right now and i hope it doesnt come across like that but I can’t help looking around at how fucking deplorable everything is quickly getting and then seeing how quickly humanity can babd together under the boot of our oppressor and help one another as best we can and its kind of…rewiring my brain a little bit? Like yeah humanity can be despicable - look at those in power - but it can also be so caring and empathetic - look everywhere else.

Anyways I’m rethinking how the purge happened in Camelot. Druids and magic were a natural part of every day life in Albion. Yeah, Uther probably spread propaganda against magic users but there had to be a portion of the population that saw through it and defended magic users against Uther’s raids and executions as best they could. Camelot citizens following the knights out as they head to a Druid camp, as they get close enough the citizens shout out to warn the Druids and give them a headstart while getting between the knights and the Druids to give them time to get away.

Uther probably had all those citizens killed or heavily suppressed and controlled by fear so he could properly eradicate magic users from Camelot. I don’t think Camelot citizens just let it happen. I think they put up a fight as well but Uther had them killed and then propagandized them as enchanted by the druids/sorcerers or something to further stoke fear of magic

Anyway, I have THOUGHTS.

There is NO WAY Christie wouldn't have come back from NY for Hannah. He has been in love with her since he was a teenage, he never got over her, but we're meant to believe he was just like, "lol no your family is too much"?! I don't fucking think so.

Liv was annoying in the series and honestly, she's even more annoying in the special. I would have much rather have had it been say, Nina's wedding to someone she loved since she got a weak storyline that offered no character growth anyway.

How were Nathan and Hannah OK with Liv, who is like 20, getting married?! All the shit they've been through themselves and seen and it's just like, "Yeah, this is fine."

Speaking of Nathan: didn't we already resolve all this "I'm having a midlife crisis and I still love Hannah but I'm with Kate now" stuff at the end of s3? If Nathan was going to be there, a better storyline would be him and Hannah having to come together to try and convince Liv to call of the wedding.

I get that Tillie and Vinnie never really had any storyline or even dialogue in the series, but it was still a pretty weird move to just have them backpacking (?) and then Facetiming but we don't see them.

While I'm sure in 2024 vicars do have sex outside marriage, I find it pretty hard to believe the Church of England would be happy if a vicar got a woman who wasn't his wife pregnant. I mean, Glen seemed very nonchalant that Rose didn't want to get married and it was weird.

That whole Archie having a fake fiancee plot point was just plain weird, very Hallmark movie-esque and frankly, made no sense; why, exactly, would Alvaro want his secret mistress at his son's wedding under the guise of her being engaged to another man?

I know that a lot of the law stuff has always been very sketchy factually, but English solicitors just instantly knowing how to navigate the Spanish legal system was farcical.

I generally think Abi Morgan is a great writer - I loved s1 and s2 of TS, although s3 made me go hmm in a good few places - but the writing on this was not it. One of the only moments I really liked was the scene between Archie and Hannah at the end where she's talking about feeling insecure and sacred, despite me obviously not being for their relationship.

Anyway, I spent the whole thing thinking up a way I can make a fix-it fic where Christie comes back into Hannah's life with a good reason why he didn't come back and I might have the germ of an idea... (Also, definitely still gonna finish my canon continuation incase anyone might be wondering.)

His name? Well, actually their names. Anyways I had this really fun idea and my own take on the “What would happen if you tried to take Merlin’s magic away” or whatever yknow. Well this is one of my fun takes. I thought it’d be very funny if it kinda split Merlin from his magic and kinda split his personality into two different people. Yknow like that one Phineas and Fred eps where Candice splits into two and one wants to bust the boys and the other is obsessed with Jeremy. Essentially that. Or like any classic cartoon troupe like that.

Emrys is the embodiment of the word “Stressed”, Merlin is cluelessly fearless. Emrys is an excellent liar, Merlin wouldn’t be able to lie if his life depended on it(it does). Emrys is rather agile, Merlin is so clumsy and accident prone he may get himself killed just by walking around. Both still have the sass, but Emrys’ is better timed with his to make them hit the hardest and Merlin only speaks in insults.

Anywho, the concept is that Merlin goes back to the first instance he died, which I decided he’s fallen out of a tree one night while sneaking out to play with Will. And one of the only way Merlin and Emrys become one again is if Merlin goes through all of the times he died. Luckily it doesn’t switch until Merlin fully heals from the last death, and Merlin sustained quite a few injuries that take some time to heal from his first. So before he goes to his next death, the poisoned chaise, Emrys has to find the flower, and then will hunt to find The Cup of Life. That’s because some of his deaths are impossible to cure, and with The Cup of Life, Emrys could speed up the process. But having to do all of that all at the same time as, making sure Merlin doesn’t get himself killed, protecting Arthur, and having to deal with a mini Dragon who just wants to play with her lord. All while Morgana is trying to find out where her dragon has gone off to.

Also Emry’s outfit is fully inspired by an outfit @/druid-boy-punk drew Merlin in check out their stuff it’s really good.
