So far I like Daredevil: Born again pretty well.

But I'm not sold on the new characters (Cherry, Kirsten and Heather).

Of them, Heather I think works best. She's an interesting dynamic. Especially with what they set up for her at the end of episode 2. And she and Matt have decent chemistry (I don't read her as a long term love interest--it seems like they still have Karen in mind for that role-- but as someone who lasts maybe to the end of the season. I'd like to keep her that way.)

Kirsten is fine as a new lawyer character, I just don't think she's pulling enough weight for the show's emotional core. She doesn't seem to relate to Matt in a way that will serve to really be a key motivation for him in the way that someone like Karen or Foggy would. And the first two episodes did very little to establish her character beyond a surface level as Matt's coworker. Maybe she's just not actually that important to the show? But she seems like she should be to fill that void.

And then there's Cherry, who frankly just doesn't quite make sense to me. I'm wondering if it's a symptom of the rewrite the show went through-- if he was originally a longtime confidant of Matt's who had to be rewritten to be someone who was added into Matt's inner circle in just the last year when the show was brought into the Netflix continuity. Because the dynamic between him and Matt just feels off to me. I'm unclear how well he and Matt knew each other before the events of the opening scene, or how he feels about Daredevil, or whether he and Matt are legitimate friends or just have a weird employee-who-keeps-his-boss-from-vigilante-crimes work dynamic.

Right now, all the characters from the Netflix show that aren't around (currently including Karen) have left a void in the show that just doesn't really feel like it's being filled. And that's not a problem YET. Maybe these guys just need more development. Maybe we'll get some different characters in there to flesh out that side of the show. Maybe Karen will be pulled back to New York quickly and will supply that. But it is a part of the show that I'm not immediately satisfied with.

MATT AND FOGGY REUNION SCENE. It better be 5 minutes long. It better have Matt incoherently SOBBING. I don’t care what you have to do for this to happen writers GIVE IT TO MEEE E

Matt secret identity reveal. I doubt Fisk would do it (because if he wanted to he already would) but man the drama that would come from that would be DELICIOUS and I also want to see Matt being the one on trial for once. Murdock vs the people of New York would go so hard.

BB getting revenge for Ben with the help of Karen. I want her to document EVERY corrupt thing Fisk is doing and reveal it to the world, and if Karen’s the one helping her then it’s a full circle moment from the og season one.

4. MORE KIRSTEN SCENES. With what little we have of her I already adore her and I want more!! Also although shipping Matt with everyone is basically mandatory already, I love them together and I need more.

5. Heather and Matt dramatic ass breakup. Honestly I like Heather way more than everyone else does because at least to me the point is that she is Not Good For Him and vice versa, so if this comes with a betrayal too… ugh I’d love it. She basically already did by agreeing to work for Fisk, but doing that in a more in your face manner would be so good.

6. Angela taking on the White Tiger mantle + Matt mentoring her. A) I want more White Tiger stuff B) I love Angela (nobody talks about her either :c) and I want her to avenge Hector’s death and get officer Powell’s bitchass C) I think seeing Matt in a mentor position would be really interesting and I also just love seeing superheroes learning the ropes.

7. FrankKarenMatt love triangle. AND A PROPER ONE. I know Disney would probably rather kill themselves than let Matt and Frank be bisexual but man it would be so much fun. At the very least let them let Karen have her two bad bitches at once, she deserves it.

8. The Defenders + Spider-Man joining the anti-Fisk army. I have faith that they’ll probably include the Defenders in season two, or at least Jessica (man if they let Luke become Mayor after Fisk too that would also be great), but for Spidey even a cameo seems kinda hopeless with how Sony is acting. Marvel I’m gonna need yall to put up a fight for this one because you’re making Peter look like a fraud + his and DD’s friendship is too good not to expand on.

9. Dex v the Fisks but it actually works out for him. Yeah it’s kinda inevitable but I want him getting proper revenge on them for how they used him + I also want him to find a new North Star who’s actually good for him (and who preferably doesn’t die horribly RIP Julie). Lowkey still wish Ray was alive because I think he’d actually be a good role model for Dex and even if Dex was lying when he was trying to befriend his family I think it would be really sweet if he got to do that for real. He’s such a good character man.

10. Officer Powell getting the snot kicked out of him again. It’s already a running gag and I want it to continue. They should let him live for the sole purpose of letting the rest of the cast body him whenever they desire.

11. BRING BRETT MAHONEY BACK WHERE IS HEEEE. Make him the new police commissioner when this is all over. If they give that role to fucking Cherry I’m gonna lose it.

Watching Matt’s struggle with killing manifest itself has been crazy work and I wish the original team was more focused on stuff like that. I like that in the wake of the over all, the show is a bit disconnected because it mirrors how Matts life isn’t quite right, but I miss the details like that that bring us back to where we left off.

My Favorite Characters with ADHD

Again, these are only my opinions.

Jeremy - The Secret Of NIMH. Come on. Look at him. He is a combined-type ADHD boy if ever there was one. Distracted, clumsy, impulsive, I bet the writers either had ADHD, knew someone who had ADHD, or had a child with ADHD.

2. Newton Geiszler - Pacific Rim.

Also impulsive as fuck, a class clown, obnoxious, yet obnoxiously smart, and somehow still charming as fuck. He reads very ADHD to me. BB. Forgive me for using the meme gif. It's just so good.

3. Rose Nylund - The Golden Girls

Who doesn't love Rose? She's friendly, sweet, fun, creative, horny, and hilarious. She also can't remember anything for more than five minutes, and is the human equivalent of a small, cute dog who bumps into things a lot by accident. I love you Rose. Long live Betty White.

4. Sherlock Holmes (The Jeremy Brett Granada-Holmes).

I actually think Holmes may have had both ADHD and Autism, but really, Brett's Holmes is bombastic, impulsive (seeing a trend), able to hyperfocus at the speed of light. Overshares, blows up friendships. Cannot keep a clean flat. Hyper as all get out. Think about it.

5. Nadja of Antipaxos - What We Do In The Shadows

She's a hot mess. Distracted, forgetful, intensely interested in some things, and cannot be bothered to give a flying fuck about other things. Out of sight, out of mind. She's probably also AuDHD actually, but for the purposes of this list, I will draw your attention to her many impulsive and rash decisions surrounding her emotions, and her over the top RSD. She's so beautiful, help.

6. Jonathan Strange - Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

Oh my god such an ADHD boy! He cannot sit still, and he has no patience for rules or regulations. He's self centered, impulsive (hello!), running off on the King's Roads, and drinking mouse juice to make himself go mad on purpose. Failing at four careers before finally becoming a magician by absolute accident. I love you Johnty. Never change.

7. Cornelius Hickey (or whatever his real name is) - The Terror.

He's impulsive (aye-oh!), makes sudden, rash decisions, is prone to flashes of anger, has off the charts RSD, and though he manages to hyperfocus on sabotaging the expedition for his own needs, he still makes a lot of careless mistakes and fucks it up royally. Too bad one of his hyper-focuses wasn't "learning about ships". I love you Hickey, you adorable bastard. How is his hair always so good?

8. Back to JS&MN for Christopher Drawlight.

Christopher Drawlight cannot sit still to save his life. He's always being charming, chatting people up, and making social connections, both real and fabricated by himself. Only sometimes, he loses track of which lies he's told, and to whom, which gets him in a lot of trouble. His hyperfocus is social status, and he can't let it go, even at the bitter end. He's really one of my favorite characters, even if he is a horrible person. This goes for both book and show Drawlight, by the way. Both top notch. Both ADHD as fuck.

9. Dory - Finding Nemo.

I mean... do I have to say anything else? I don't think I do. I love Dory so much. I relate so, so much. Inattentive ADHD Fish Sister.

10. All versions of Doctor Who, but Tenant is becoming iconic, and I love him, so let's go with number 10!

Just an all around hyperactive ADHD guy. Fun, creative, adventurous, risk taker, IMPULSIVE (it doesn't end). But really, all Doctor Whos feel ADHD to me. There's something capricious and clumsy and dreamy and jumpy about all of them.

The slang /j

Max's comment about the vaccine poster "The last time I got the flu shot, I got the flu. Fuck you!" is so made fun of that it's become the "Max is anti-vaxx!" joke, but yeah, that has aged even more badly since COVID.

In all seriousness, I don't think Nathan telling Max, "now get out of my face, d*ke!" in Chaos Theory was necessary. Assholes gonna asshole, but Max was neither out nor really aware of her queerness, and she wasn't overtly flirty with Chloe in Nathan's presence or presented as stereotypically butch. Nathan's name-calling felt more out of left field because he didn't have much to go off of, rather than something like "get out of my face, nosy (insert nasty name here)" or whatever.

BtS:

What I think is the most egregious example: Rachel (with Chloe as an accomplice) literally drugging Victoria to unconsciousness to get her role in the play back. That is in wildly and insanely bad taste when the first game's involved Jefferson illegally drugging and kidnapping teenage girls, and how Rachel herself fucking died. It's barely covered up with a sapphic-coded moment Victoria calling Rachel pretty, but the fact that it's framed as funny at all is batshit crazy.

Also, how Nathan and Frank's characters are softened so they can be almost buddy-buddy with Chloe, when Nathan can literally kill her three years later. Also, D9 actually animated Frank checking out a 15-year-old Rachel for a second in "Hell is Empty" 🤢

D9 sorta shot themselves in the foot by framing Chloe in a more sympathetic light in this game (Chloe attempting to reach out but getting increasingly ghosted, Chloe missing Max so much in-game) after how the narrative treats her in DE...

So ironically, because Trump-era racism is still alive and unfortunately more relevant than ever again, the racism depicted in LiS2 is now being brought up by fans as "ahead of its time." Cassidy and Finn's dreads were already a bad move in 2019, though. I do think what will age badly are the explicit uses of slurs: Brett calling Daniel the r-word, Hank (and later Chad in ep4) calling Sean a racial slur, and Nicholas calling Jacob a homophobic slur.

I don't think the Blood Brothers ending has aged well. It feels so bizarre and backwards that Sean and Daniel spend the whole game trying to clear their names and escape to a life in Mexico where they intend to live peacefully... but then the BB ending has them stealing money and involved in gang crime. It's such a disappointingly shallow, stereotypical depiction of Mexico. I also don't like how low morality Daniel becomes such a cold murder machine given how normal and stable his upbringing was.

Daniel should've been obsessed with Fortnite, not Minecraft /j

I wouldn't say aged badly like "became problematic" but with time, the game's relentlessly optimistic tone has led to a less memorable product. Actually, everyone in the game is so cheerful and sanitized that I can't really think of any truly problematic things from the games besides some off-screen events like Alex and Isaac. In 2021, I loved TC's persistent themes of hope and looking to the future and I think it fit with Alex's character arc of grief and learning to identify her own emotional needs. Narratively though, Alex's grief felt a bit too neat and tidy and it makes for a less compelling story upon replay. Trauma can manifest in irrational, ugly, hurtful ways, and I think D9 could've afforded to make Alex, Steph, Ryan, and Gabe a little rougher around the edges.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday appeared likely to block a historic $10 billion lawsuit against U.S. gun makers as both conservative and liberal justices raised concerns about allowing the government of Mexico to hold firearm manufacturers liable for cartel violence south of the border.

Federal law grants broad immunity to the gun industry, in part to protect companies from costly litigation that could drive them out of business. Mexico alleges the law creates an exception for "aiding and abetting" the illicit sale and trafficking of guns, which the companies deny.

Mexico has only one gun store but is awash in millions of American-made weapons, most funneled into the country by straw purchasers in the United States. The country claims the companies, including Smith & Wesson, Glock, Beretta and Colt, knowingly distribute and market their guns to be trafficked.

By one estimate, at least 200,000 guns flow south of the border each year. The country is seeking $10 billion in damages and court-mandated safety requirements around the marketing and distribution of guns.

"The laws broken here are designed to keep guns out of criminals' hands. Those violations put guns in criminals' hands and those criminals harmed Mexico," Cate Stetson, Mexico's attorney, told the Supreme Court.

"These acts were foreseeable," she added. "This court need not vouch for Mexico's allegations, but it must assume they are true. ... Mexico should be given a chance to prove its case."

Many of the justices seemed unconvinced by Mexico's case should be allowed to move forward.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor suggested the alleged harms from cartel violence roiling Mexico are too far removed from the manufacturers' decisions to distribute their products.

"We have repeatedly said mere knowledge is not enough [for liability]," Sotomayor said. "You have to aid and abet in some way. You have to intend and take affirmative action to ... participate in what they're doing."

Justice Elena Kagan questioned what she perceived as a lack of specificity in Mexico's allegations.

"There are lots of [gun] dealers. And you're just saying [the gunmakers] know that some of them [engage in trafficking]. But which some of them? I mean, who are they aiding and abetting in this complaint?" Kagan said.

After Stetson alleged deliberate marketing of guns to cartels, Chief Justice John Roberts voiced skepticism of the claim.

"I mean, there are some people who want the experience of shooting a particular type of gun because they find it more enjoyable than using a BB gun," he said. "And I just wonder exactly what the defendant, the manufacturer, is supposed to do in that situation. You say no, he shouldn't be marketing a particular legal firearm because they're going to go into Mexico at a higher percentage than others?"

Justice Brett Kavanaugh raised concern about the broader implications of a decision allowing Mexico's suit to go forward.

"What do you do with the suggestion on the other side ... that your theory of aiding and abetting liability would have destructive effects on the American economy in the sense that ... lots of sellers and manufacturers of ordinary products know that they're going to be misused by some subset of people?" he asked. "They know that to a certainty, that it's going to be pharmaceuticals, cars, what -- you can name lots of products. So that's a real concern, I think."

Stetson replied, "If you have a product manufacturer of a dangerous product that is alleged to have done all of the things knowing who they're selling to and what is being done with that product, then and only then, I think, that product manufacturer ... has a problem."

More than 160,000 people in Mexico were killed by guns between 2015 and 2022, according to an analysis by Everytown for Gun Safety.

A large majority of guns involved in the shootings came from U.S. border states. More than 40% of illegal guns seized in Mexico over a five-year period came from Texas, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report.

In 2023 alone, more than 2,600 firearms were seized going south into Mexico, up 65% from the year before, according to the Department of Homeland Security, and 115,000 rounds of ammunition were captured headed the same direction, up 19% from 2022.

A federal district court dismissed Mexico's case in 2022 citing immunity under federal law. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that decision in early 2024, saying Mexico had made a plausible case for liability under the law's exception.

The Supreme Court is expected to decide by the end of June whether or not a liability case can move forward.
