Adachi and Bayside Shakedown / Odoru Daisosasen
On the 12th ep of Persona Stalker Club, Atlus responded to a question about Adachi being familiar with the Moonlight Bridge, which I posted about before.
To recap: Adachi mentions the Moonlight Bridge in P4AU because he used to be stationed in the Iwatodai city center, lived near, and would drive back to HQ over the Moonlight Bridge to imitate a character from a cop show that was popular back in the day.
After, the hosts of PSC talk about the cop show he's imitating being "that" show. They don't name it, but bring up a slide of Adachi wearing his jacket from P4AU that's labelled Odoru Keisatsu?! meaning Dancing Police, but they aren't talking about Adachi dancing lol (I mean, on the other hand, P4D *does* exist).
The "odoru" part makes it clear this is referring to something else.
As Soejima says in the Design Works, this is *not* a classic yellow PVC raincoat, but actually a mods coat. The bit I circled here in pink says mods coat.
Anyway, after showing Adachi in his coat, one of the PSC hosts, Isocchi, talks about Adachi taking off his coat, and hearing him say "You can't close the Moonlight Bridge!" in Madono's voice.
To go back to why they labeled him in his mods coat as Odoru Keisatsu -- the label and Isocchi's quote are references to Odoru Daisosasen, also known in English as Bayside Shakedown.
The specific line she's referencing can be seen here in this clip at 37 seconds where the character Aoshima says, "You can't close the Rainbow Bridge!"
youtube
What all does this have to do with Adachi? In Bayside Shakedown, the character of Aoshima is a detective who works on Odaiba (one of the inspirations for Port Island in P3). The Moonlight Bridge in P3 is based on the real life Rainbow Bridge, altho it's in a bit of a different location. Additionally, Aoshima is a detective. He wears a mods coat (but his is green) and a red tie (!) and he also happens to collect model guns. (โพโกโ)
(To my knowledge, Aoshima hasn't killed anyone.)
Btw, I looked up yellow mod coat on Japanese fashion websites and found ones that cost like $600. No wonder Adachi can only afford cabbage...

่ธใ It's one I've watched many times at home with my parents. Glad to hear it will be a movie this year. I really liked Goro Inagaki in this piece. It was back when he hadn't had any scandals yet and had a cool personality. I love him for that too.

Oh Bea if you and Adam have been enjoying Furuhata may I suggest another good Japanese police drama, Bayside Shakedown, it's about the more mundane and bureaucratic side of Japanese police work but the cast is pretty fun and you definitely see some inspirations for Ace Attorney in it, especially Dick Gumshoe.
fuck yes. we have a few more things on our list to get to but i want to eat up more police procedural stuff forever

Saddened to hear about the passing of Shลซji Abe, the storied film producer who worked on the likes of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, Godzilla Minus One, Space Battleship Yamato, Bayside Shakedown 2, and Lupin III: The First.
May he rest in peace, our thoughts with his family and friends. ๐โฅ๏ธ

About
The story involves the main characters from the artistsโ manga stories visiting the home of the Nakayoshi Editor In Chief to deliver presents for his dogโs birthday. The dog is injured, however, and the girls proceed to investigate. The title seems to be a pun on ่ธใ, or Bayside, with ๅ ใใ replacing ่ธใ. In this case, I believe ๅ ใใ refers to a specific way in which some dogs howl or bark, called baying, thus phonetically parodying the original.

Media: Mia Ikumi Collaborative Manga, Baying Shakedown, ๅ ใใๅคงๆๆป็ท, Part I Source:ย Personal Collection Full Resolution Download: โก Commentary: Recently, I was looking to pick up some of Mia Ikumi's other manga, like RePure and Super Doll Lica Chan!, and I stumbled across a listing of her work that mentioned a manga I hadn't seen documented anywhere else. It's a collaboration between Ikumi and several other Nakayoshi artists, and is called ๅ ใใๅคงๆๆป็ท, or Baying Shakedown. The title is a reference to a Japanese police comedy series called ่ธใๅคงๆๆป็ท, or Bayside Shakedown. The story involves the main characters from the artists' manga stories visiting the home of the Nakayoshi Editor In Chief to deliver presents for his dog's birthday. I haven't been able to translate it yet, but the artwork is nice, and I really like the limited palette of just blues and reds. Unfortunately, this is a two part manga, and I haven't found a copy of the magazine that the concluding half was published in for sale as yet.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2001, in association with MarcoCo. Studios & Saul Zaentz Film Center) - Gary A. Rizzo, Dan Olmsted, Jana Vance, Chris Barrick, Nick Peck, Tony Eckert
The first 2 are THX-Certified DVD releases: the international version of Bayside Shakedown 2ย I found on ebay, and Loreleiย was sold new & sealed on Amazon for like $14, though the package design and label looked cheaper than other copies I saw before (at least it shows THX on the back).
Regardingย Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlustย (2001) which I searched up online to update the IMDb on the credits: Originally Gary Rizzo mixed it with Dan Olmsted at the Saul Zaentz Film Center (which, like Zoetrope, Studio C, Russian Hill, Fantasy Studios and Berkely Sound Artists, featured members of Skywalker Sound); HDSurround said that Skywalker was involved on it, and I found that Gary Rizzo also did print mastering on the theatrical English print at Skywalker Sound!

Btw, I thought this was a really funny easter egg in the Golden anime:
Adachi is shown being given a transfer order to Inaba while his co-worker receives a merit award of some kind of from the police chief. His co-worker's name on this award is "ๅคง็ฐ็่ผ". We've never given a pronunciation, but I wager it's meant to be pronounced "Shinsuke Ohta" (Or Ohda) as an allusion to and combination of the names Shunsaku Aoshima and Yuji Oda - Aoshima being the main character on Bayside Shakedown and Yuji Oda being the actor who portrayed him.

Idk if you've been asked this before but in your opinion what do you think is Adachi's favorite things? Like favorite kind of tv show, favorite kind of music , clothes , books ...ect or does he literally hate everything in this "shitty world"? Because i mean he had to have done SOMEthings on his days off right?
Of course, there are definitely things he likes! He's just too deep in his resentment and bitterness to consider that.
There was one interview that confirmed that, whenever he was in Iwatodai for work, he went out of his way to drive across the Moonlight Bridge as a reference to a Japanese TV show that was famous at the time. Apparently, the real life series being referenced is Bayside Shakedown, a police comedy drama series, so I guess thatโs the kind of show Adachi likes. Also, his raincoat is kinda similar to the one the main character wears, so... thatโs kind of a nerdy thing to do, if you ask me, haha.
As for clothes, both his work and casual outfits are pretty plain, so I don't think he cares much about that. Then again, he might think of anything more as "frivolous" so he might've not given other kinds of outfits a chance. On the other hand, he does seem to be having fun in that one promo art where he's dancing with Dojima, so he might not be opposed to wearing something more showy, but I don't think he'd seek it out himself, if you get what I mean.
As for music, I direct you to this post. Lmao just kidding, but I genuinely don't know what kind of music Adachi would listen to. Probably something really really edgy because he'd be too embarrassed to be found listening to anything remotely happy lol.
Iโm not sure for books either, but for some reason I get the feeling that he might be mostly interested in plot-driven stories, especially mystery and suspense if weโre sticking with the idea that he likes police series. He might also be interested in the occasional lighthearted wish fulfillment story (not sure exactly what heโd want from a story like that tho), but I imagine that, as his worldview gets bleaker and more bitter with time, heโd slowly read those kinds of stories less and less because he canโt see the point in them anymore. Though I can also see him rejecting fiction altogether and sticking to certain kinds of non-fiction, so I donโt know.
I also think heโs into tinkering with stuff just out of curiosity and maybe fixing appliances? Since he modified a toy gun to shoot bullets, he definitely has some experience with that.
You know, I really think he mostly spent his free time watching TV. I mean, his apartment is pretty barren aside from the TV, and, since he became so obsessed with Mayumi, I think itโs reasonable to assume he spent a lot of time in front of the screen. Probably because he really was convinced that there was nothing to do in Inaba, so he just stayed in, but, if thatโs the case, I canโt help but wonder what did he do in the city that made it so interesting to him? Aside from the fact that his job was more โexcitingโ back then, I mean.
#ask tag#anonymous#headcanon#p4 spoilers#long post#sorry if this doesn't make sense i just kinda wrote down my first thoughts#so i might be wrong#thanks for the ask anon!! :)#if anyone has more opinions on adachi's favorite things i'd love to hear them bc i'm really just coming up with this on the spot haha

Gunpla Battle-themed Live-action Web Drama Gundam Build Real Starts Streaming on March 29
ย ย 13 months after the initial announcement back, Gundam Build Real, a live-action web drama series inspired by the Gundam Build anime series, is confirmed to start streaming on the Gundam franchise's official YouTube channel at 20:00 (JST) / 04:00 (PT) on March 29, 2021. A plan for the drama was first revealed at the live presentation for the Gunpla (Gundam Plastic Model)'s 40th-anniversary project "GUNPLA LINK PROJECT" held in Tokyo in February 2020.
ย The Gundam Build anime series featuring virtual battles using the customized Gunpla kits launched in 2013 with its first installment Gundam Build Fighters. As previously announced, Katsuyuki Motohiro (Bayside Shakedown, Psycho-Pass), who has been known as a big fan of Gunpla, serves as the general director.
ย Gunpla battles between high school students will be depicted in CG. Various customized versions of the Gunpla kits currently on the market appear in the show. How to build them will be introduced on the web. There are also plans to release the Gunpla kits that appear in the show.
ย ย Synopsis:
ย The protagonist Hiro Suzuki formed Team Bright with his friends in elementary school. They all pooled their money together to purchase a single Gunpla, Nanahachi (RX-78-2 Gundam) and upgraded it, aiming to win the regional tournament. However, the day before the tournament, he loses the Gunpla that was supposed to be in his bag.
