a small group of bayou fairies try to semi-domesticate wild gators but this isnt a common thing and everybody else thinks theyre fucking insane. if it do work then you get to ride around on their heads and have a extremely efficient transportation compared to paddling around on extremely tiny rafts or canoe. if it dont work then you are extremely dead

I just clicked what my favorite adaptation/version of Cinderella is. I mean, I kind of knew back then, but I didn't realize it because at the time Cinderella wasn't a story I was really interested about, and I hadn't gone into the entire Cinderella rabbit hole. But if you ask me what my favorite Cinderella retelling is, it is definitively the story of Emberella as presented by Terry Pratchett in his "Witches Abroad" novel.

Yes it is kind of a parody and deconstruction of the Cinderella story (and a quite excellent one at that), but it also works very well as its own fairytale - plus it literaly predicted/foresaw Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" 18 YEARS before the movie was released.... and while slapping so hard the face of the Disney company.

Yeah, Emberella is my favorite version of Cinderella.

A Birthday in Hell

Alastor x Reader

Word Count: 548 Words

You weren't brand new to Hell, but you were still learning the in's and the out's.

Who knew anyone would still give a whiff about someone's birthday of all things...but, Alastor the Radio Demon did.

You didn't even remember ever telling him when it was; that today was the day you took your first breath of life in the land of the living all those years ago.

It seemed comically pointless now, to remember or celebrate such a thing.

Yet, there you were, waking up beside him in his room at the Hazbin Hotel. He was warmly kissing you, and nuzzling at your neck, wishing you the happiest of birthdays.

You showered and dressed, thinking not very much of it after that. When you were done, he had your favorite breakfast there and ready for you to enjoy with him at the table within the bayou. He had some things to see to that day, and he apologized that he wouldn't get to spend more of it with you. 

"Charlie has a full day planned, so I'm sure you'll be thoroughly entertained until I get back. Tonight though... I am all yours." 

The way he said it sent a blush right up into your face. He smirked, kissed you sweetly and departed for his outing.

You find out that Charlie doesn't just have a weekly activity planned; it's a surprise birthday gathering for you! All of your friends, the residents of the hotel, are there to celebrate you and your being there with them now. Everyone’s passing out cake and ice cream. There is a gift exchange, and your favorite one is a spicey gift from Angel that you will definitely be using in the bedroom soon.

Charlie announces that the best part of your birthday surprise is an entire day spent with everyone at LuLu World. You know it's not really Alastor's scene, but you still miss him despite all the incredible rides, fantastic carnival food and all the fun you are having with everyone.

 It is an amazing day but the sugar on the cream is when you finally get to step back into his room at the hotel and find him waiting for you there.

He's got strings and strings of fairy lights strung all across the bayou and there's more fireflies skittering about than you have ever seen. Candles are set out and he's got a full Southern style dinner ready and waiting for you both to enjoy. 

"Jambalaya!?" You ask him excitedly. 

"No, uh...actually it's a gumbo." He tells you. "The Jambalaya was a recipe of manman's...tried and true, but the gumbo...the gumbo is a recipe of my own. It was her very favorite and the last time I ever made it was for her. I wanted to make it for you, tonight." 

The dinner is...indescribably perfect. You've never had food like this and wonder if you ever will again.

Alastor insists that you both stuff yourselves on the food and with the rare vintage wine he has provided; you both soon are too giddy and too full to do anything more than lay cozied up together in the grass, snuggled and cuddled up happy and warm; staring up at the brilliancy that is the night sky and enjoying the happiest of birthdays.

No Child Left Behind AU

This is a Descendants AU in which VKs didn't grow up on the Isle

Every month, Auradon sends gaurds to the Isle to collect any children born during that month or any that were missed on the previous visits. The collected VKs are the put into the foster care system with a few being taken in by Family members or groups who wish to perseve the culture of the child's heritage.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Charmings and The Fitzherberts with them bringing in several political allies to pressure King Beast.

These are the main families who take in or personally place the VKs of their villians.

The placements of "Important" VKs

The Hooks (only Harriet, Harry, and CJ) were each raised on Neverland with the Fairies until they were 3, when Auradon determined they didn't have any abilities that would nesscitate being raised by the fairies and placed them into foster care.

When Harriet turned 18, she hunted down and adopted her siblings

Anthony, Adrian, and Dominique Tremaine were raised by their fathers while the rest if the Tremaines were placed in families who were personally vetted by the Charmings. They all know of each other and have the option of meeting and interacting.

The Faciliers were taken in by Mama Odie, who wanted to protect the magic they were bound to have and keep it in the Bayou

The Song sisters were also raised in New Orleans by the LeBeaus who had dealings with their mother. An arrangement paid in information, training, and an offshore account filled with enough money to guarantee the sisters can live whatever life they want.

Only Myd, Magnus, and Mars Mim (last names known as Emrys) were placed with family, their grandfather. The rest of the Mims are scattered in foster families. Many of them were late findings, being taken as old as 4 years old.

The Metternich siblings were taken in by Snow White. Eventually. This only happened after both showed incredible intelligence and a knack for politics.

The de Vils were taken in by the Radcliffes surprisingly. They weren't sure if they were going to, with Hunter being in foster care for a few years. They decided to put out of remembrance of their old friend.

There are quite a few VKs attending Auradon Prep, being either sponsored by royal families or via scholarships.

Current Students include Noelle Song, Jay Reynolds, Carlos de Vil, and Harry Hook on scholarships.

It’s an unusually cool evening in the bayou. Aurélie sits on the small wooden dock behind the cozy home she now shared with Cal and his brother Donny. She looks up at the starry sky, her toes trailing lazily in the balmy water.

They had opened all the windows to let the refreshing breeze flit gently through the house. Which meant she could enjoy her own personal concert.

Cal was seated at the piano, playing her favorite song, Chopin’s Nocturne No. 9 E major.

The soft notes float up to her, carried by the cool breeze, evoking feelings of immense tenderness for this man who had become her rock, her everything during the recent trials. Fighting terrible enemies. Realizing she was half-fae. Losing her father so soon after finally meeting him. Dying.

Sometimes she’d wake up still wondering if the past weeks had been nothing but a fever dream.

Though tonight, resting under the immensity of the cosmos reflected in the calm waters in front of her, the beautiful melody flitting in soft waves, it felt more like a moonlit reverie.

As she gazes out into the confines of the bayou, Aurélie notices white specks of light twirling over the mirror-like water, seemingly dancing in sync with the melody.

Curious, she squints her eyes, trying to make out the dazzling forms. They slowly near the dock, floating on the wind.

As they get closer, Aurélie’s breath catches.

Tiny wood fairies!

Their shimmering, iridescent wings flutter daintily as they twirl and dance. Soon, the ethereal creatures encircle her, their giggles like soft chimes as they joyfully twirl, raise and dip all around her.

“Well, hello, you’re quite graceful.”

Aurélie smiles at the fairies. They grin and chatter, a few fluttering in her long wavy hair, tickling her, while others pull at her blouse, inviting her up.

Laughing, she complies and starts twirling around the yard along with the fairies, in absolute awe at this magical moment.

“You’re a sight to behold, ma chérie.”

Aurélie turns towards the house to find Cal leaning against the frame, observing her with a tender expression, a sparkle in his eyes.

The fairies pick up their chatter, a delicate symphony of windchimes now replacing the night’s melody. Inviting the newcomer to join their magical waltz.

“Well, what are you waiting for, handsome?”

Aurélie beckons him over, smiling playfully. Cal doesn’t need further encouragement. He tenderly gathers his girlfriend into his powerful arms and leads her into a slow waltz.

As always, Aurélie is amazed that this beast of a man is capable of such gentleness. Always so careful around her, protective, attentive to her needs and attuned to her emotions. He had captured her heart so easily with his kind soul.

And she fell in love with him all over again every day, through his many small gestures, gentle touches, daily bouquets of fresh wildflowers, private moonlit concerts. Countless little reminders that he cherished her.

The fairies seem to approve as they increase their wild ballet, surrounding the couple with their ethereal beauty, lighting up the air brighter than the billions of flickering stars.

Cal gazes fondly into his love’s sparkling blue eyes. He bends down to capture her lips in a languid kiss.

Aurélie melts into his strong arms, feeling his intense warmth envelop her. She parts her lips, inviting him in, relishing in this magical moment.

They feel a soft breeze as the fairies excitedly spin around them, then float up high into the air. They bid their farewell in melodic chimes, softly flitting into the dark woods.

Watching the little specks of light disappear, Cal murmurs, “You have such a beautiful soul, even the wood fairies want to be close to you.”

“You’re the one who drew them here with your wonderful moonlight concert.”

“Hmm… and here I thought I was playing only for ma douce moitié.” He kisses her nose. “Shall I continue?”

“Yes please. Though I’ll come sit with you. I love watching you play.”

They turn their backs to the serene bayou and its magical inhabitants as they head towards the brightly lit house.

Their home.

SO the other day i mentioned that i was thinking about making either florida swamp fairies or louisiana swamp fairies and i was actually initially leaning way more towards florida but the other day i saw some louisiana photography and started having Ideas so bayou fairies won out in the end

so anyway to be specific my little guys live in the atchafalaya basin which is the largest wetland in the us. as ive previously mentioned fairies in my writing are very very heavily inspired by the living habits of birds of their ecosystem which in this case would mean a ton of wading birds. great blue herons nest in treetop colonies called rookeries and its very common practice for people living in wetlands to build their homes on stilts as a flooding precaution so these 2 things gave me a couple ideas

i aint drawn nothing yet but so far ive written that bayou fairies will live in in little suspended villages on treetop platforms that are connected by tiny walkways. each individual tree functions as its own little neighborhood and if the distance between trees is too far to comfortably fly then fairies will get to other villages by little rafts or canoes. depending on the individual tree their villages might be partially obscured by being tucked away in spanish moss

Lucifer: *tugging him up the stairs* Come on! *He leads Alastor to the nursery*

Charlie: Surprise! *She beams, showing off the redecorated nursery. On one wall is Honey's name with apples and deer underneath. On the other side, there are spots for names to be added, along with similar apples and deer. The back wall was still the mini bayou Alastor had conjured, but there were now soft fairy lights in the trees. Opposite Honey's crib were two bassinets*

Alastor: *with his jaw dropped* You....redecorated?

Lucifer: Yes! Tada!

Charlie: Do you like it?

Alastor: Yes, my dear, I do.

Lucifer: Oh, there's one more surprise.

Charlie: There is?

Lucifer: *touches Alastor's tummy* We're having boys.

Alastor: Really? Weren't you just rambling not long ago about having at least one girl?

Lucifer: I know. But I'm happy with two boys too.

Charlie: Yay! Baby brothers!!

Lucifer: Glad you're excited, Char-Char!

Alastor: Boys, hm.....well, at least this will be entertaining!

Cecelia was an orphan who loved ballet. She traveled from village performing in the streets as a dancer. The money given by kind strangers was only enough to scrap by. Yet, Cecelia did not despair. And she took many opportunities to show kindness to others. Whether that be giving her last piece bread to a hungry stranger. Or giving the shawl on her shoulders to a cold beggar.

Seeing Cecelia's good heart and good deeds, the fairies sent to her a fairy godmother. With a wave of her magic wand, stars rained down from the sky as gold coins. Cecelia gathered the coins and using her new wealth, she bought a manor home north of the bayou. She staffed the house with the strangers she had helped in the past. Living comfortably, she kept pursuing her dream of being a ballerina. Cecelia performed for the gentry and the nobility. While dancing for the royal newly weds, Queen Eudora and Prince James, Cecelia catches the eye of a soldier with a prosthetic leg made with a tin alloy.

Cecelia is an allusion to the orphan girl from the Grimm Brother's fairy tale "The Star Money" and to the Ballerina from "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" by Hans Christian Andersen.
