I’ve been planning to read the whole of Plutarch’s Parallel Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans for some time. I’ve also been longing for a really good stretch of the legs... It occurred to me yesterday that I could do both my hiking and my reading on my free day tomorrow! Ridge to Bridge 2017 • 4/23/17

The Bay Area Ridge Trail's annual "Ridge to Bridge" event featured hikes and mountain bikes of different lengths. No equestrian option this year due to trail issues from the winter storms. Scott and I did the 40 mile mountain bike ride. We met up with the other riders at the Presidio of San Francisco for a shuttle ride up to Samuel P. Taylor State Park and started our ride back south from there. Nick did the 25 mile version, which shuttled to their start at Pantoll Campground, Mt. Tamalpais State Park. We managed to synch up at lunch and ride the rest of the way back to San Francisco together. It was a beautiful day with great views, if a bit overcast and chilly. East Bay Ridge Trail MTB Ride • 5/6/18

The Bay Area Ridge Trail Council was a beneficiary of this year’s Whole Foods’ Day of Giving event, where they donate 5% of the day’s sales from the Nor Cal stores to a local charity. This year’s event, held April 19th, resulted in a donation to the Ridge Trail of $185,000! 

As part of that event, the Ridge Trail with Whole Foods put together some events to introduce people to the Ridge Trail. Austin McInirny, a Bay Area Ridge Trail Council board member, and president of NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association), lead us on a tour of part of the Ridge Trail in the East Bay. 

We met up at the Whole Foods in Berkeley, then headed across town up into the hills of Tilden Park, and proceeded north on the Ridge Trail to Wildcat Canyon Regional Park.
