Triumph TR7, 1975. The car that “won” the BLMC internal competition to become their mass-market sports car for the 1970s. The designed was by Harris Mann with styling that “hinted” at a mid-engine layout though it was a conventional front-engine, rear drive sports coupe. The car was launched in the US in January 1975, with its UK home market debut in May 1976. The UK launch was delayed at least twice because of high demand for the vehicle in North America. Despite strong sales production ended in 1981 as part of British Leyland's rationalisation plan.
Fun fact: Earlier this year Kevin Morby released a new album that included a track called Triumph in which he sings about driving a Triumph TR7

Fiat X1/9 Gran Finale
The Fiat X1/9 arrived on the market to take over from another convertible that is a true design wonder, the Fiat 850 Spider. Although small, the Fiat 850 Spider had very fine design details, such as the rigid cover for the convertible top, the subtlety of the sloping headlights almost like a Miura with which, by the way, it shared the rear lights. The Fiat X1/9 had a very long life, being produced until 1989 and with a production run of around 160,000 examples, most of which were registered in the US. It's not quite clear how the hell the Fiat finally got the green light. this mid-engined two-seater designed by Gandini for Bertone, in fact, its name gives us a clue to the haste with which it was finally decided to launch it on the market. Fiat X1/9, what the hell does that mean?... it's just the code name of the model project.
The truth is that the name also gave a certain futuristic touch to a car that had lines that would be inspiration for other models, such as the Triumph TR7, with some very peculiar shapes that in a way were also to blame for some of its criticisms and is that, for many, the Fiat X1/9 was a car with very attractive lines and the appearance of a kilometer-consuming car, but with the 75 CV engine of a simple Fiat 128.
This construction meant that the Fiat X1/9 had a weight distribution of 47% of the mass in the front axle and 53% in the rear, a trunk in the front where the removable targa roof could be stored and another luggage rack behind the mid-engine, on the small rear overhang. With a weight of around 850 kg (in 1978 it gained another 75 kg when the 85 CV 1.5 engine with the 5-speed gearbox was introduced), a good suspension scheme and precise steering, the Fiat X1/9 had a driving that immediately caught the attention of the testers of the time, who lamented that it did not have more power. The interior received good reviews, with a very futuristic design, well-designed seats and a driving position that invited you to drive it sportily. Over the years it became clear that the quality of the dashboard plastics was not the best, quite prone to cracking in a car in which, moreover, they are highly exposed to solar radiation and temperature changes.

Crayford TR7 Tracer, 1977. Recently revived Crayford were established coachbuilders of estate cars based on Audis and Mercedes. In the mid 70s they were commissioned by a Triumph dealer, Page, to create a shooting break version of the TR7. Several prototypes were produced but the car was never marketed. A least one of the prototypes still exists.
