So I was just watching an NCHammer23 video and when he was talking about Guy noticing TenTen has some skills in storing and summoning jutsus but was largely useless compared to other ninjas in her age group, I had a lightbulb go off in my head about 2 different ways in which TenTen could have been made stronger. Starting with Flying Raijin.
I know, I know, it's an incredibly chakra-taxing technique, and I don't think she'd be able to do it nearly to the extent that it's inventor and Minato could. Maybe 10 times per fight to make it believable. But think of how well it would complement her kenjutsu-only fighting style. Allow me to explain.
Minato used it largely for killing enemies up-close faster than they can react. Yeah, maybe TenTen could use it that way, but I think it would make more sense for her to use it in tandem with long-range throwing weapons. Think of her as essentially a ninja sniper that could teleport to another place on the battlefield as soon as enemies get close to her. In a 1vs1 fight this might not work out all that well in her favor, and especially not if it's just her fighting multiple enemies since she'd probably use up her chakra teleporting awayfrom enemies in no time. But keep in kind that she was usually teamed up with *3* close-range fighters, basically all 3 of them being monsters (yes even Neji, he was just a more defensively-oriented taijutsu specialist as opposed to Guy and Lee). All 3 of them would be amazing distractions on the battlefield to draw attention away from TenTen so she can concentrate on her throwing-weapon sniping capabilities. And Neji with his nearly 360° of vision and 800 or so meters in range in any direction, he could also be able to keep an eye on her situation and make sure enemies don't get too close to her. At least he could've done that for her until he died in the 4th Great Ninja War (rip).
Now for the other improvement: Medical Ninjutsu. Reminder, thanks to Tsunade, every team is supposed to have 1 medical ninjutsu specialist. Guy and Lee definitely wouldn't fit that role, and maybe Neji could but he's *not the best* for that role on that team, as he's still a close-combat type. Another reminder, Tsunade laid out the rule that medical ninja are not supposed to get up close and personal (unless you have that seal on her forehead thing but I digress). This suits TenTen perfectly, since she's a long-range fighter type. She stays out of sight and attacks from blind spots while the rest are drawing attention away from her, until her medical ninjutsu is needed. Someone on her team gets hurt and needs to be healed? She heads in and heals them, and the other 2 can defend her and the injured during that time.
But I'm not stopping by keeping the 2 improvements separate from each other. If she has both of the added skills I mentioned at once, she'd be able to use Flying Raijin *and* medical ninjutsu in tandem. Imagine not having to rush in and fight through waves of enemies to heal your allies, because you're able to just teleport to your injured teammate's side with a seal you personally placed on them before, saving precious seconds or minutes for treating them that could otherwise possibly cost them their lives.
And just like that, you make TenTen a really useful ninja. Not a powerhouse, and not someone that is made for 1v1 combat like a lot of the others, but she becomes one of the best support ninjas around, combining long-range attacks (and not the flashy kind that might be detected before they hit, btw), unpredictability and maneuverability, and basically being the team's white mage. And she *still* has her main area of skill and expertise in throwing weapons, she just has other skills to complement that.

Actually, the most impressive thing about Skeleton Crew was how it understood the value of keeping the story small.
When your heroes are small, sheltered, inexperienced children, everything feels huge and threatening.
When none of the characters have the Force, you don't need characters who can move buildings with their minds. The guy who can do a teeny bit of stuff with the Force has a terrifyingly huge advantage.
Barely using the Force means that little examples of using the Force--like making a small object float--can invoke a major sense of wonder.
When only one character has a lightsaber, you don't need huge sword battles. A single blow from a lightsaber becomes a terrifying dramatic moment.
The villains don't need to have weapons that can blow up entire galaxies. If you have a few villains who can put the heroes, their families, and their home in danger, the stakes are as high as they need to be.
You don't need to draw characters and plot points from fifteen other stories. You just need to set up plot points that are well-foreshadowed in this story.
It keeps the story grounded, relatable, and understandable, while still having tons of tension and excitement and adventure. You don't have to make the story big. You just have to keep the heroes small.

I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rottmnt headcanons#rise leo#His aptitude with subterfuge sleight of hand stealth and speed really push how being a ninja really comes naturally to him.#it’s arguable that his desperation for the spotlight and validation is an act of subterfuge against himself#note that when he’s offered a job as a mascot he’s fine being unknown#when he and splinter win the battle nexus Leo immediately says ‘they love YOU pops’#idk I think so much about how good a ninja Leo is#and how much his persona is more an actor#Leo as a tot is shown a natural skill at katana too so hear me out-#every Leo is a natural ninja but every Leo’s route in life is directly tied to their splinter so#since rise splinter is an actor Leo too aims for it#and he brings it into his whole life - masking always because a Leo makes what they do who they are#I think that Leo naturally falls more in line with that of a typical ninja#his eccentric performer self is his subterfuge skill just set to an 11 at all times#not that that’s NOT him - like I said it’s still undoubtedly a part of Leo#but? idk I think about little moments like Leo being the only one to choose stealth in bug busters#or Leo being the only one to almost get Gus’s dog tags in The Ninja Art of Hide and Seek (he was so close but luck was against him alas)#like- he’s clearly in his element there and he falls into those skills so easily#it’s like how everyone has skills in so many things but some exceed more in some than others do#like Raph? Raph’s the biggest Hero of the bunch of them let’s be perfectly real here. Raph is THE Hero#All the boys are smart in their own rights but Donnie is THE Genius.#and they all have mystic powers but Mikey is THE Mystic Warrior with immense untapped potential#likewise Leo I feel is THE Ninja#but yeah I love how much Leo goes for the spotlight anyway for better or for worse#he IS a performer again make no mistake! but again the way he does it still lines up with his natural ninja aptitude and I love it#Leo loving magic tricks and magicians so much works doubly well here because like#you’d think he’s focused solely on the performance flair - no it’s ALSO and ESPECIALLY the DECEPTION

Sif can't do shields, and they tragically don't have 'Make Up Time', but they have a skill that heals 50% of someone's HP and boost their attack (3 cooldown time)
They still have 'Turn It Up' and the default 'attack one enemy with scissor craft', but instead of ' Too Cleaver by Half' which targets all enemies he has 'Twice as Sharp' which hits two targets and has 2 cooldowns. They have no 'hits all enemies' attacks.
Ciu sif gains wack skills when they level up though
"Change it up I" make them change to paper type for 3 turns! (6 cooldown) (I actually did art for this one)
''Double Gamble" attacks a single target twice and deals Heavy Damage, but the type is 50/50 between scissors and paper. It adds two Scissors or Papers to the jackpot (4 cooldown).
"Change it up II" Make them change to rock craft, (8 cooldown). Can't use Double Gamble while using it.
Not what was asked but here is a funfact: Overall the housemaiden is slower than og siffrin, in a race or a test of stamina he would lose significantly (if they were put in the scenario where siffrin lost his eye, they would be too slow to save bonnie), but their attack speed is roughly the same, such is the joys of dual wielding.
EDIT: the housemaiden is still slower than the traveler, but I decided they should keep Make Up Time.

i have like. such mixed feelings on the medic leo headcanon, coming from someone that has used it in pretty much all of his work so far. me and the medic leo headcanon are in an off-and-on relationship and every time i think we're done for good its outside my door with a boombox in the pouring rain and i feel like i hate myself a little when i take it back. it fucks like a champ though which makes it KIND OF worth it
cause like. i really think its an implementation thing that frustrates me more than anything else. to give leo a special THING feels like it disregards such a core facet of his character, that being that he doesn't have one and he feels like the others do. "face man" feels like overcompensating. initially, "leader" feels like too much, and it feels like something he TOOK from raph. there's really an implication that he feels like his brothers are SOMETHING without him, but he's NOTHING without them, and he directly states the second part. (so he overcompensates and acts like they do need him)
i think to make this an early-in-his-life practice kind of throws that out the window. leo taking this up when he's young doesnt fit him, i dont think, especially because i see him as a very.... high wisdom low intelligence kind of character. good street smarts terrible book smarts, and that's kind of apparent by him being so clever and intuitive while also taking stupid dares and making actively reckless decisions to look cool lmao. he would swallow a whole bottle of shampoo because mikey told him to and then be confused why he's in the medbay and raph is yelling at him like ten minutes later
HOWEVER. i think it is a very good way to explore some of the nuances of him that actually MAKE him a good leader, once he steps into that role. leo is a people person. he knows his family, he pays attention to them, he knows how to manipulate them and it would make him a diligent eye in the field. things dont get past him and it makes it hard to hide when theyre in pain from him. he's the most likely to be like "cool, i dont give a fuck" when they try to dismiss injuries. he'll happily make it an argument if he has to; he'd be as stubborn as a mule when it comes to their well-being, and he's more calculative than he looks, which means raph and donnie's usual tactics of dismissal and deflection hit a wall when he puts his foot down on something.
so really i just go out of my way to not make it something EXCLUSIVE to him when its included (and i always go out of my way to make it recent, because why would they have a designated medic who they already know to go to when the concept of crime-fighting was NEVER something they thought would really happen?). it makes the most sense to be something that STARTED with donnie, considering he refers to resuscitating piebald as "my science"; medicine is included in the field of what he enjoys and invests in. donnie is a jack of all trades in anything he can get his grubby little hands on, but ive always seen him as squeamish, which gives a good reason for leo to get involved.
but i think leo would always underestimate his capability despite lots of hands-on experience, even though hands-on is literally how he learns instead of reading books and studying like donnie does. no matter how diligent and practiced he is in the field, he's still not exclusive in it, and it doesnt feel like something that IS a big thing to him. so he can do a few stitches, big deal. donnie and splinter can already do that! who cares? raph and mikey probably could too if they actually paid attention to any of donnie's yap-sessions. no matter how much he boasts about how much they need their cool brother to patch them up, he doesn't believe it, even as he gets better and better and better.
it also gives him the opportunity to really come to face how meaningful it actually is, and to be appreciated for that, especially if donnie is out of commission and he actually gets to utilize that strength. doomed timeline angst potential right there.

coleaders klance who have each others back whilst arguing til they're blue in the face. a dignitary from a planet watching keith and lance argue and lance says something and runs away before keith can rebut it which leaves him scowling. the dignitary seeing this as their way in with the black paladin and saddling up to him and complaining about lance. keith doing a complete 180, his eyes going yellow and his skin slowly shifting purple as he glares at the alien and the alien panics and is just like "haha sike hes actually really cool and amazing and i would do anything he asks ahahahaplsdontkillmehaha"
a dignitary finding out keith is galran and seeing klance argue so he goes to lance, the red paladin and second in line should anything happen to the black paladin, and insulting keith's heritage and implying that should lance stage a coup then he'd have whatever planet the random alien is from in his corner. lance pasting on a wide, faux smile and "soothing" the aliens fears/concerns about keith being galran by saying that if their planet doesnt want a galran to save them then voltron wont force them to join the coalition and they can fight the empire themselves. the alien freaking bc hello??? their planet against the might of the galran empire?? they'd be crushed!! and the alien is just like "i meant no offense im so sorry pls dont leave us for dead"

i think the thing that makes azula so impressive beyond just her raw skill and power at firebending is that the majority of the time she ensures she's never alone when fighting others. like sure, she'll duel when she needs to and whip ass at it, but more often than not she's strategically placed allies around her. mai and ty lee, the dai li, backup soliders and fire benders - she never refuses assistance on egotistical terms. and she really has every right to, i mean her fire is blue, that puts her in a league that no one else touches. yet that ego doesn't translate to her battle tactics
azula operates with personal arrogance, and tactical humility. i think thats one of the reasons she's such a terrifying opponent

Elrond with dramborleg
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"His hair was dark as the shadows of twilight, and upon it was set a circlet of silver; his eyes were grey as a clear evening, and in them was a light like the light of stars."
This drawing was for @armenelols and @polutrope post about elrond using a family heirloom "dramborleg".
Oh boy I had so much fun.
My main thought while painting this was " what would be different about elrond?"
And the answer is alot but a the same time nothing.
Elrond is in a way a sad character he kind of lost everything and the only constance in his life is the heralded past of his ancestors/family and friends.
He almost can't remember his parents but he can read about them even maglor is ,despite being a kindslayer, described as strong imposing and a mighty warrior.
His own brother, who chooses mortality,is a revered king!
This elrond that I depicted here is not the lord of Riverdale. Not married yet.
This is a elrond who will stand between evil and his folk.
Just like his ancestors did.
He is holding a legacy of strong unrelenting men who did change the tides of war who done the impossible no one else did before them!.
This is also elrond who found out that his brothers legacy Numenor is at the bottom of the sea - because of sauron.
This is a elrond who becomes a lord for many different kind of elves because he is a different kind of elve.

I was inspired by Vetyr's art and so tried to draw something for Knight of the Dark. I do love the results! ❤️ But sadly, the final composition did not work out, so instead I will share individual pictures. 😉
Here are a few thoughts about it:
I adore the roughness of everyone's hair with this brush, especially Valen's. It suits him so well.
I am happy with how Lavi's expression turned out. Just the right mixture of desperation and defiance.
Valen ended up static on the ground, begging rather desperately to know everything and take action. Which he cannot in the end and that's one of my most favourite aspects about him in KotD, actually.
Berial's not quite as threatening as on might imagine. For him, this entire thing was out of boredom and an observation game about how mortals react. A prelude to his next target, Orson.
Merlin is way to pretty. xD
About Hogan and Lorenzis... something I realised now that I have drawn them again. And something that did bother me back when I drew for the chapters: I never liked Lorenzis in armor. And now I know why. Because he rose to his position due to his connections. I bet he never fought on the frontlines as Hogan did. Lorenzis is the man who wears not only his rank but also his (undeserved) medals for show. Hogan on the other hand, I always wondered why he, as a magistrate, would still wear his armor. And it is because he is a man of action and he will not hesitate to fight to protect. He hardly has to lift a finger and yet he still chooses to be with his soldiers rather than being perched up high behind his office desk and give orders.

Leo being put into a situation where there is absolutely no fighting, just verbal manipulation and perception games, would be amazing to witness. We see a lot in the series how good he is at subterfuge and how he uses his perception to manipulate to great effect, so it’d be so cool to really see it put to the test even more.
Manipulation is one of the most effective tactical strategies of all time, so just imagine Leo putting this skillset of his to the full test. Imagine the boys slowly get up to busting bigger and more powerful criminals, including those with networks of crime under their belt, and a simple fight isn’t enough to take them down. For criminals like this, Leo’s skills in subterfuge would be deadly.
