Note
do you have any dickbabs reading recommendations (especially if they're babs focused)? I read batgirl year one and some nightwing too, but I would love to delve deeper into their relationship
thank you sm in advance đ
They just donât do slow burn in comics like Dickbabs anymore â„ïž
If youâre coming right off batgirl year one (masterpiece. Redefined my life. Forever altered my brain) I definitely recommend you read Nightwing Year one as well, (starts at issue #101 of Nightwing (1996)
In this list I have included everything I can, but If I missed anything significant please feel free to let me know!
Pre-Crisis:

Detective Comics (1937): #359
The Batman Family (1975): #1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20
POST CRISIS:

Robin Year One (2000): #4
Batgirl Year One (2003)
Nightwing Year One - Nightwing (1996): #101-106
Nightwing (1995): #2
Nightwing (1996): #0.5, 7, 14, 16-18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 37, 38-87, 88, 89, 100, 104, 109, 117, 153 (this isnât EVERY issue Babs is in but all the important ones)
Batman Chronicles (1996): #9
Some of the best and most beautiful dickbabs moments come from birds of prey, and they give a great look into Babsâ side of things too! I recommend reading Bop and Nightwing alongside each other (If you can!) And I alos recommend you read some Batman arcs like Cataclysm, No Manâs Land and Bruce Wayne, Murderer? They show Dick and Babs working together and with the batfam. Fun Fact and slight spoiler for the ending of No Manâs Land, The ending scene where Dick and Helena randomly kiss was supposed to be between Dick and Babs, but someone messed up, and Rucka kinda just thought Dick was a horndog so no one fixed it đ there is still some good Dickbabs moments within that arc tho
Birds Of Prey (1999): #8, 19, 20, 23-61, 71, 76, 86
Robin (1993): #71
Gotham Knights: #17, 18, 26, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 42, 43
Harley Quinn (2000): #10-12
DC One Million (1998): #1 , 3
DC Universe Holiday Bash (1997): #2
Batman: Black Mirror (they arenât together in this but itâs still important reading for their relationship imo and a fascinating/thrilling Dick!bats story with lots of Oracle besides)
Nightwing Annual 2 (for the conclusion of the proposal from Nightwing #117)
Liâl Gotham (2013): #1, 7, 10, 17
Convergence Nightwing/Oracle #1-2 (for the wedding. This is how pre-boot ended as far as Iâm concerned)

Anyway.
This is the dickbabs break up scene, from Nightwing #87, in its entirely.
Sections of particular note:
Dick: She [Tarantula] doesn't even know what secret identities are for. Babs: Do you? Dick: Excuse me? Babs: Well, you have been a little on the reckless side lately, don't you think? Dick: Did you just ask me if I know what secret identities are for? Babs: showboating at the PD, letting Dick Grayson and you-know-who run around with the same injured shoulder.... Dick: Did you just ask me if I know what secret identities are for? Babs: ....body-tackling armed maniacs in public restaurants...
And
Babs: I'm tired of this, Dick. I'm tired of fighting with you to let me take care of myself, I'm tired of your relentless energy, and I'm tired of always playing "Remember when". Babs: Oh, and I'm really tired of the way you always look surprised when your ex-and/or-potential-psycho-love-interests-in-costume plant a wet one on you. Dick: Barbara, please. What did I do? I haven't seen you this angry since back when your dad got shot and I came to give you the- Babs: Don't you dare? Not one word about the past! Are you even listening to me?
It sounds to me like while Catalina kissing Dick earlier in the issue (yes, without consent, we'll get to that) was the final straw, Babs has been thinking about this for longer- I'd say at least since last issue when she had to call Alfred to force him to stay still while recovering from getting shot. That was also the issue where Babs finds he goes stir crazy if he doesn't have ways to help, and tries to invent ways to help:

And here in #85, Babs' issue with Dick dwelling on the past comes up as well, as does his recklessness:
We can plant the roots of their communication issues much further, actually - here they are in #77, a full ten issues before the break up, having what's clearly part of (actually given the timing I think it's the start of) a long running argument about secret identities:
Now, this one I'll give leeway - Dick is late, he knows he's not going to win the argument, so he ignores her. But it IS worth noting that Babs doesn't feel she's being listened to on a pretty major subject that affects both their lives.
Also going to note this little exchange in #85:
Babs: Yeah, yeah, you love me. Heard it before, hunk wonder. Can I go back to sleep now? Dick: Actually, I was gonna say I crave your touch with every fiber of my being. Babs: [skeptical expression on her face]: You were gonna say that? Dick: I was. Babs: Even remembering that I can't walk and everything, right? I mean, you're not just daydreaming about the good ol' Batgirl days? Dick: Oh, but you were so hot with that big yellow bat on your chest....
This is, in my humble opinion, a really notable exchange. Babs is expressing a very private personal insecurity - she is skeptical at the idea that her partner can desire her sexually with her disability. This is a very realistic way for Babs to feel. The problem is that instead of reassuring her, Dick responds by making a joke, reminiscing about the past (in her mind, confirming the idea that he's in love with someone she can't be anymore), and signing off. Babs is generally pretty emotionally guarded, so it makes sense that Dick might be caught off guard and unsure how to respond when she does open up (especially considering who he was raised by...) but that doesn't mean she can't be upset by exchanges like this, especially given that Dick frequently brings up a past that is now painful for her to think about.
TL;DR: Tarantula kissing Dick might have been the straw that broke the camel's back, but I really don't think it was the only reason - probably not even the main reason - Babs broke up with him. Their relationship is messy and riddled with communication issues, and that's what makes it so interesting! But Babs has a right to decide she doesn't want to keep fighting for something that's not what she wants anymore.

Black Canary reads?
Yes, Black Canary can read.
...
Speaking seriously tho, I've always dreaded that someone would ask me this about Black Canary instead of ANY OTHER CHARACTER cause despite loving Dinah, a lot of stuff she's in isn't good.
The only stuff with "Black Canary" in the title that I actually like is:
- Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell
- Black Canary: Ignite
That's it. I REALLY love Bloodspell and completely recommend it. Ignite is cute
She has 4 solos and all of them are pretty bad. You can read it though! Maybe you'll like it!
They are: Black Canary (1991), (1993), (2007) and (2015)
If you want to experience her appearances in other titles, I'd go:
- The Hard Traveling Heroes Era: Green Lantern (1960): #78-79, #81-84, #86-87 / The Flash (1959): #217-219 / Green Lantern (1960): #93-110, #113-117, #119-122 (I'm obsessed with these books, but Dinah isn't exactly the focus. Still, she's there and she's great)
- Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters (a bunch of BC fans hate it for the way Dinah is victimized, which is an extremely valid point)
- Green Arrow (1988) (deals with Dinah better than it's predecessor and I actually like the portrayal of her and her flaws here. That is a bit controversial tho)
- Birds of Prey (1999) (I have... Some complicated feelings towards this, but it's where you'll mainly get Dinah Lance shining. Her portrayal, especially when you get to Gail Simone, is really good)
- JSA (1999): Secret Files and Origins #1 / JSA (1999): #1-4, #6-14, Annual #1, #15-22 / JSA Secret Files and Origins #2 / JSA Our Worlds At War / JSA (1999): #31-32 (I haven't read these so I can't give you an opinion, but I've heard good things!)
- Green Arrow (2001): #1, #4-6, #8-9, #12-15, #17, #21 (I only like this until issue 21 and I frankly would recommend that you read all of them so it makes more sense), #21, #29, #34, #40 (those are... A MESS)
- Road to the Altar (definitely not a fan, but it's important)
- Green Arrow/Black Canary (not a fan either, but the Dinah here is not the problem, Winick just isn't very good at telling stories)
Then! New 52
- Birds of Prey (2011):
Rebirth
- Green Arrow (2016) (I have my problems, but it's overall kinda fun. I really like Dinah here)
Batgirl and the Birds of Prey
Infinite Frontier
- Green Arrow (2023) (it starts meh and then just gets worse)
- Birds of Prey (2023) (I really enjoy this! Great Dinah and fun storylines)
She's also in a bunch of Justice League stories, but then we'd be here all day.

Okay, thought experiment where we DO fully remove All Steph from the DC timeline and how that changes plots and events (or âSteph only ever appears in âTec 647-649, is a one appearance character, retires when sheâs told toâ).
This is not saying Stephâs a bad character. Itâs more an examination of how she is, aside from Batgirl 2009 and Batgirls, very much a supporting character, and under the conceit of âremove a character, what changes in the timelineâ, your answer for Steph is ânot a great dealâ.
Tim might date Ariana a bit longer, but itâs not going to make a huge difference, given they break up during Aftershock and thereâs no way this relationship survived No Manâs Land. Maybe theyâre on-again a bit more before the end.
Tim then probably dates Star during Brentwood, because Dixon couldnât leave Tim without a girl for a hot second in case we started getting ideas about him not being completely heterosexual
Tim/Darla probably actually happens or is more flirted with at Louis E. Grieves.
Knightfall â no changes, aside from the fact Tim never gets buried alive with Arthur Brown.
Contagion / Legacy â no changes, Steph doesnât participate
Final Night â Tim probably is alone, doesnât have anyone to squabble with
Cataclysm/Aftershock â not a whole lot here. We never get the Huntress/Spoiler team up, which is sad. Maybe we get a Huntress/Azrael team up instead (ahahahahahahahaha can you imagine)
We never get the pregnancy plot (hopefully)
Steph doesnât feature in No Manâs Land proper. No changes.
Officer Down â Steph doesnât appear
Steph doesnât exist, so Bruce never breaks Timâs trust by telling someone his identity in Robin 87. Bruce probably just sulks about Alfred not being there and waits until Tim pops up. Alternatively, Bruce sends Cass to go look for Tim, which is still the broken trust but less fraught as thereâs no background fight over âI can never tell you my identityâ and Cass is with Babs anyway.
Early Cass & Steph team ups â either Cass gets a civilian friend before Brenda to be friends with, and/or Cass and Tim get more early on team ups and Tim starts trusting her earlier as Cass knows Timâs ID, and/or (interestingly enough) timeline would let Dinah introduce Cass to Mia, and we give Cass some more of her own supporting cast/friendships.
Joker: Last Laugh â Cass probably gets Stephâs appearances, rather than Cass being banned from any theme villains, due to the urgency
Gotham Knights #22 â Cass gets this detective training session with Bruce on account of the theme villain thing in J:LL and itâs good because Cass needs more detective training anyway
Batman: Family â Cass or Dinah or Helena get a bit more to do here.
Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive â Helena probably gets Stephâs bits, or Dinah just does more.
World Without Young Justice: itâs Cass, not Steph here, and Cass is still Batgirl. We see the world doesnât have a Robin (which is realistically what would happen without a 1989 Tim). This plays into later Kon/Cass.
Cass also goes to Zandia.
Stephâs not in Hush.
Now for the big one. War Games.
I think you can go two ways with no Steph in War Games. 1. War Games doesnât happen (which doesnât really make sense, the Bat office used Steph as an expendable to kick things off here, rather than this being an outgrowth of Steph as a character). 2. Someone else initiates War Games. Your two best options are either: Orpheus messes up on his gang infiltration and something like the shootout meeting still occurs; Jason reappears JUST slightly earlier and his initial moves for control of the underground initiate the shootout meeting. Probably deliberately to kill off gang heads, rather than accidentally like it was for Steph. His efforts for this may not be revealed during War Games, heâs just a shadowy figure causing problems.
Helena probably also gets to feature in War Games, a plotline about gangs and mafia in Gotham, a topic sheâs only JUST SLIGHTLY related to, rather than sitting it out for unclear reasons.
Black Mask May not torture anyone other than Orpheus, but if they still sacrifice a character here to make it ârealâ I suspect Holly Robinson goes instead. (This then has knock on effects over in Catwoman but nowhere else)
There is no Robin 4 while Tim is âretiredâ. The school shooting at Louis E. Grieves and the gang warfare in the streets are what convince Jack that Tim isnât safe either way, Tim returns to being Robin on schedule. Alternatively, Tim returns to being Robin after Identity Crisis, under the intense angst of âeven being retired didnât save my Dad (for some reason Tim would still have been out that evening), Dad told me to be a heroâ.
War Games still happens â Tim and Cass may or may not move to Bludhaven afterwards. Tim probably still needs that break from Gotham. Babs probably still leaves town if the Clocktower gets blown up, and thus Cass moving also makes sense. Also they wanted a pretty clean slate for Bruce to angst over Jason.
If not, Tim and Cass stay in Gotham, Cass still ends up on her roadtrip, we come to Infinite Crisis the same way anyway.
Nothing bad happens with Leslie. There is no character assassination. She remains in Gotham. YAY!
Babs never shows Charlie Stephâs autopsy photos. Maybe she uses Jasonâs. Maybe she justâŠdoesnât do this.
Cass doesnât hallucinate Steph. Maybe she has visions of someone else, or none at all, or someone else like Boston Brand turns up.
Fast forward to 2008. No Steph in Gotham Underground (which she does nothing in anyway, itâs just a tease about a return)
We skip the Steph returns plot as no Steph. (This bit doesnât make a lot of difference, fewer assassins).
Steph working with Ulysses Armstrong to âtestâ Tim â either Bruce can arrange this nonsense himself, or you know, Ulysses is an annoying villain anyway. Maybe HE just causes problems on purpose. Maybe the back of Timâs head never gets burnt. That would be nice.
Batgirl Volume 2: Steph does not feature in this.
Battle for the Cowl: Steph essentially sits this out apart from complaining that Tim told her to retire.
Batgirl Volume 3: three big ways this could have gone. 1. Cass gets an ongoing again, after all that character rehab done in Volume 2, instead of being shipped off to exile/Hong Kong. Cass plays Batgirl to Damianâs Robin, which would create interesting dynamics. 2. The slot is used for the Batwoman ongoing that had been in development hell since 2007, Rucka gets 26 issues rather than 10. 3. We get Babsgirl two years earlier. Oracle: The Cure did what the name promised on the tin, follows through on the old Brainiac tumour plot. (Ugh)
Cass PROBABLY still plays Batgirl to Damianâs Robin in option 2, with only sporadic appearances in titles not written by Morrison. Option 3 obviously has some Dick and Babs conflict over the fact she can now walk, Babs probably still runs a Birds of Prey during this time. Cass likely still gets shipped off.
Nu!52 happens. No Steph.
Rebirth. Iâm unfamiliar with most of Stephâs appearances from her reappearance onwards, but the thing everyone always says is that she basically shows up as âTimâs Girlfriendâ or âStephnCassâ. Cass doesnât appear as a double feature. Timâs obviously dating other people. Scanning the wiki entries doesnât show me much of anything loadbearing that wouldnât just be written as Cass by herself. Steph apparently talks an OMAC-Tim down at one point? Maybe his favourite, most trusted brother (Dick) could do that instead.
#Stephâs an interesting character!#itâs just when youâre talking about pivotal plot or storytelling moments surrounding her itâs War Games or War Games#and she was essentially a sacrifice to make War Games happen#not everyone needs to be a main character#also the fact that there was a lot of Bat events that used 2 out of 3 of Helena Cass and Steph#makes substituting Steph easy#pop in the character who was sitting this one out

Spider-Man Vol 1 #25
All of 2000 Beast Boy 4/4
Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 2 Variant cover (1992)

Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 4 Variant cover (1992)

Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 1 (1992)
Firestorm Vol 2 #9 (1983)
Robin Vol Vol #1 (1991)
Robin Vol 2 #85 (1993)
All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder Vol 1 #6
Batgirl Vol #5 (2000 series)
Batgirl #9 (2000 series)
The Punisher 2099 #2 (1993)
Young Justice Vol 1 #10 (1999)
Immortal Doctor Fate #1 (1985)
Another variant cover of Robin Vol 1 #1

I've been meaning to get the Batgirl series and YJ, and I got Robin III CotH 2, 4, and 6 on my last antique store visit, so now I have the variant covers of 2 and 4 and the normal 1. Also get to have the #2 of The Punisher 2099, since I'm pretty sure I have the first somewhere.
Anyways now I owe my dad 87 dollars bc the comics were on average 3 $ each, shitty, I know, but I also havent seen any Batgirl or Robin in the past places I've gone so I jumped at the opportunity. Time to indulge in paid child labour /s
Also got this sick thing: McFarlane Toys Medieval Spawn vs. Malebolgia Spawn Action Figure

I have the og medieval Spawn (they had a bare one in one of their bins too), but hey, Malebolgia + black suit medieval spawn? Thats my shit
Some other stuff I saw but didn't get:

Brb, gotta scrub the walls and clean the windows top to bottom (by my own choice, don't be naive) đ -đŠ

Androxys' 2023 Comics Wrapped
Happy end of 2023! To celebrate the turning of the year, I wanted to take a quick view back through the comics I read over the last twelve months. Turns out there's... a lot of them.
This isn't 100% perfect, mainly because I'm basing this off the metadata of when comics were added to my computer... I do think there are some comics I added at the end of 2022 but ended up reading in 2023. However, in the interest of being fair, this list won't count those, and is instead only the comics I can confirm I read in 2023.
By my tally, I read 977 comics in 2023 across 78 unique titles. If we assume each comic is 22 pages long, that's 21,494 pages of comics! Of course, some stories are shorter than 22 pages (as if they're splitting with a backup) and some are longer (prestige formats or one-shots). Based on some quick (and quite unscientific) math, I estimate that I spent around four days of my 2023 in the world of DC Comics. And you know what, I'll do it again.
Breaking down my Top 10 single titles, this year I read...
169 Superman/Adventures of Superman/Action Comics issues
128 Batman/Detective Comics issues
104 JSA issues
56 Suicide Squad issues
52 Birds of Prey issues
51 Manhunter issues
38 Harley Quinn issues
33 Aquaman issues
31 Azrael issues
27 Martian Manhunter issues
Here's the full breakdown of my reading, for those interested:
Arsenal (1998) #1-4 [4]
JLA/Titans (1998) #1-3 [3]
Knight and Squire (2010) #1-6 [6]
Monkey Prince (2021) #1-12 [12]
Poison Ivy (2022) #1-6 [6]
Shadowpact (2006) #1-25 [25]
The Question: Pipeline in Detective Comics (1937) #854-864 [11]
Trinity (2003) #1-3 [3]
Tempest (1996) #1-4 [4]
The Atlantis Chronicles (1990) #1-7 [7]
Aquaman (1994) #1-20 [20]
Aquaman: The Becoming (2021) #1-6 [6]
Azrael (1995) #23-46 [24]
Sword of Azrael (2022) #1-7 [7]

Hello there :) may I please have a DC matchup?
At first, I come across as aloof, calm, and socially awkward. I'm very to-the-point, and can sense BS very quickly. I never get involved in drama, but I might make a witty joke while I sit in my little corner and watch with popcorn. I've been told I'm very observant and I've been called an old soul. But when you get to know me, I can be a bit of a gremlinđ.
I have a huge imagination and I'm always daydreaming. I'm creative and I love storytelling. Especially theatre and writing. Once I start writing, I find it hard to stop (as you can see heređ). I'm a film geek who likes psychological horror movies (Hitchcock films, The Shining, Carrie, etc). But I also love Scooby Doo. Another thing I like is archery and being outdoors.
I'm also a complete basketcase and 24/7 stressed. I try to look on the bright side of things when I can, though, and consider my life to be an adventure. I know my problems will be a fun story to tell at parties someday.
One thing I despise is people being condescending, and talking down to me. I'm neurodiverse and I look younger than I am, so I've had my fair share of that. I also hate when conversations get needlessly intellectual and philosophical. Like, if I ask: "What's 1+1?" And someone tells me: "Well...what IS the number one, really? Numbers are just symbols on paper. "
I'm like: "...right, but what's 1+1?" Me wanna know HOW math. Me not wanna know WHY math. Oh, and speaking of math, I hate math.
I also hate watching people argue, because, often, I'll understand both sides, and have an existential crisis over who's right, and who's wrong. Like, if I pick a side, I could pick the WRONG side! What kind of witchcraft is thisđ±
Fun facts: I was born with weirdly shaped pinky fingers. They're both bent sideways. Apparently it's called "clinodactyli" or something, so that's cool. Also I have OCD, sensory issues and trichotillomania. My favorite movie is Gremlins. One time, I accidentally printed, like, 87 pictures of a cat because I was a dumb 7-year-old, and the entire computer room was flooding with cats. My mom was so madđ. Also, I'm terrible at videogames. I tried to play World of Warcraft once, and spent over an hour trying to get out of the canyon I accidentally jumped into.
I'm a Genini-Cancer cusp, (technically Gemini) Libra rising. INFP (although, the second time I took a test I got INFJ so idk lol).
(Firstly i just wanted to tell you that 16p test is totally bsđ. I took it and it kept saying that i was ENFP but my personality doesnât match with that. So my advice is, just read each description of the personalities and pick the one who suits you the best. I found ESTP the closest to me!)
ANYWAYS
I match you withâŠ
BARBRA GORDON!(Also known as Batgirl or Oracle)
She is a complex character with unique sets of traits. Like you, she is initially portrayed as someone far off, calm, and socially awkward, but she is pretty observant and possesses a sharp sense, making humorist jokes while watching from the sidelines.
Barbara is known for her incredible imagination and love for storytelling, this is noticeable in her role as Oracle. She shares your passion for theatre, writing, and creative business. Additionally, her interest in psychological horror movies could align with your film geek side!
As someone who despises disdain and dislikes overly philosophical discussions, Barbara's very straightforward and blunt personality would resonate with you. In my opinion she's a strong character, but she also has vulnerabilities and struggles with her own daily challenges, which could make her relatable to your basketcase tendencies.
Her experience with being neurodiverse and facing challenges due to her physical disability (she uses a wheelchair) adds depth to her character, much like your experiences with clinodactyli, OCD, sensory issues, and trichotillomania. (I donât have disabilities so i hope I betrayed this right omg)
Overall, Barbara Gordon's multifaceted personality and ability to adapt to different situations makes her a great matchup for you!!!
