Anyway.
This is the dickbabs break up scene, from Nightwing #87, in its entirely.
Sections of particular note:
Dick: She [Tarantula] doesn't even know what secret identities are for. Babs: Do you? Dick: Excuse me? Babs: Well, you have been a little on the reckless side lately, don't you think? Dick: Did you just ask me if I know what secret identities are for? Babs: showboating at the PD, letting Dick Grayson and you-know-who run around with the same injured shoulder.... Dick: Did you just ask me if I know what secret identities are for? Babs: ....body-tackling armed maniacs in public restaurants...
And
Babs: I'm tired of this, Dick. I'm tired of fighting with you to let me take care of myself, I'm tired of your relentless energy, and I'm tired of always playing "Remember when". Babs: Oh, and I'm really tired of the way you always look surprised when your ex-and/or-potential-psycho-love-interests-in-costume plant a wet one on you. Dick: Barbara, please. What did I do? I haven't seen you this angry since back when your dad got shot and I came to give you the- Babs: Don't you dare? Not one word about the past! Are you even listening to me?
It sounds to me like while Catalina kissing Dick earlier in the issue (yes, without consent, we'll get to that) was the final straw, Babs has been thinking about this for longer- I'd say at least since last issue when she had to call Alfred to force him to stay still while recovering from getting shot. That was also the issue where Babs finds he goes stir crazy if he doesn't have ways to help, and tries to invent ways to help:
And here in #85, Babs' issue with Dick dwelling on the past comes up as well, as does his recklessness:
We can plant the roots of their communication issues much further, actually - here they are in #77, a full ten issues before the break up, having what's clearly part of (actually given the timing I think it's the start of) a long running argument about secret identities:
Now, this one I'll give leeway - Dick is late, he knows he's not going to win the argument, so he ignores her. But it IS worth noting that Babs doesn't feel she's being listened to on a pretty major subject that affects both their lives.
Also going to note this little exchange in #85:
Babs: Yeah, yeah, you love me. Heard it before, hunk wonder. Can I go back to sleep now? Dick: Actually, I was gonna say I crave your touch with every fiber of my being. Babs: [skeptical expression on her face]: You were gonna say that? Dick: I was. Babs: Even remembering that I can't walk and everything, right? I mean, you're not just daydreaming about the good ol' Batgirl days? Dick: Oh, but you were so hot with that big yellow bat on your chest....
This is, in my humble opinion, a really notable exchange. Babs is expressing a very private personal insecurity - she is skeptical at the idea that her partner can desire her sexually with her disability. This is a very realistic way for Babs to feel. The problem is that instead of reassuring her, Dick responds by making a joke, reminiscing about the past (in her mind, confirming the idea that he's in love with someone she can't be anymore), and signing off. Babs is generally pretty emotionally guarded, so it makes sense that Dick might be caught off guard and unsure how to respond when she does open up (especially considering who he was raised by...) but that doesn't mean she can't be upset by exchanges like this, especially given that Dick frequently brings up a past that is now painful for her to think about.
TL;DR: Tarantula kissing Dick might have been the straw that broke the camel's back, but I really don't think it was the only reason - probably not even the main reason - Babs broke up with him. Their relationship is messy and riddled with communication issues, and that's what makes it so interesting! But Babs has a right to decide she doesn't want to keep fighting for something that's not what she wants anymore.
#meta#every hero's got the pgp#barbara gordon#nightwing#dick grayson#bouncing off the walls#detective comics comics#this has been a long time coming and i was just like you know what#i can just throw this together really fast#it doesnt require that much rereading#so here you go

Okay, thought experiment where we DO fully remove All Steph from the DC timeline and how that changes plots and events (or ‘Steph only ever appears in ‘Tec 647-649, is a one appearance character, retires when she’s told to’).
This is not saying Steph’s a bad character. It’s more an examination of how she is, aside from Batgirl 2009 and Batgirls, very much a supporting character, and under the conceit of “remove a character, what changes in the timeline”, your answer for Steph is “not a great deal”.
Tim might date Ariana a bit longer, but it’s not going to make a huge difference, given they break up during Aftershock and there’s no way this relationship survived No Man’s Land. Maybe they’re on-again a bit more before the end.
Tim then probably dates Star during Brentwood, because Dixon couldn’t leave Tim without a girl for a hot second in case we started getting ideas about him not being completely heterosexual
Tim/Darla probably actually happens or is more flirted with at Louis E. Grieves.
Knightfall – no changes, aside from the fact Tim never gets buried alive with Arthur Brown.
Contagion / Legacy – no changes, Steph doesn’t participate
Final Night – Tim probably is alone, doesn’t have anyone to squabble with
Cataclysm/Aftershock – not a whole lot here. We never get the Huntress/Spoiler team up, which is sad. Maybe we get a Huntress/Azrael team up instead (ahahahahahahahaha can you imagine)
We never get the pregnancy plot (hopefully)
Steph doesn’t feature in No Man’s Land proper. No changes.
Officer Down – Steph doesn’t appear
Steph doesn’t exist, so Bruce never breaks Tim’s trust by telling someone his identity in Robin 87. Bruce probably just sulks about Alfred not being there and waits until Tim pops up. Alternatively, Bruce sends Cass to go look for Tim, which is still the broken trust but less fraught as there’s no background fight over ‘I can never tell you my identity’ and Cass is with Babs anyway.
Early Cass & Steph team ups – either Cass gets a civilian friend before Brenda to be friends with, and/or Cass and Tim get more early on team ups and Tim starts trusting her earlier as Cass knows Tim’s ID, and/or (interestingly enough) timeline would let Dinah introduce Cass to Mia, and we give Cass some more of her own supporting cast/friendships.
Joker: Last Laugh – Cass probably gets Steph’s appearances, rather than Cass being banned from any theme villains, due to the urgency
Gotham Knights #22 – Cass gets this detective training session with Bruce on account of the theme villain thing in J:LL and it’s good because Cass needs more detective training anyway
Batman: Family – Cass or Dinah or Helena get a bit more to do here.
Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive – Helena probably gets Steph’s bits, or Dinah just does more.
World Without Young Justice: it’s Cass, not Steph here, and Cass is still Batgirl. We see the world doesn’t have a Robin (which is realistically what would happen without a 1989 Tim). This plays into later Kon/Cass.
Cass also goes to Zandia.
Steph’s not in Hush.
Now for the big one. War Games.
I think you can go two ways with no Steph in War Games. 1. War Games doesn’t happen (which doesn’t really make sense, the Bat office used Steph as an expendable to kick things off here, rather than this being an outgrowth of Steph as a character). 2. Someone else initiates War Games. Your two best options are either: Orpheus messes up on his gang infiltration and something like the shootout meeting still occurs; Jason reappears JUST slightly earlier and his initial moves for control of the underground initiate the shootout meeting. Probably deliberately to kill off gang heads, rather than accidentally like it was for Steph. His efforts for this may not be revealed during War Games, he’s just a shadowy figure causing problems.
Helena probably also gets to feature in War Games, a plotline about gangs and mafia in Gotham, a topic she’s only JUST SLIGHTLY related to, rather than sitting it out for unclear reasons.
Black Mask May not torture anyone other than Orpheus, but if they still sacrifice a character here to make it ‘real’ I suspect Holly Robinson goes instead. (This then has knock on effects over in Catwoman but nowhere else)
There is no Robin 4 while Tim is ‘retired’. The school shooting at Louis E. Grieves and the gang warfare in the streets are what convince Jack that Tim isn’t safe either way, Tim returns to being Robin on schedule. Alternatively, Tim returns to being Robin after Identity Crisis, under the intense angst of “even being retired didn’t save my Dad (for some reason Tim would still have been out that evening), Dad told me to be a hero”.
War Games still happens – Tim and Cass may or may not move to Bludhaven afterwards. Tim probably still needs that break from Gotham. Babs probably still leaves town if the Clocktower gets blown up, and thus Cass moving also makes sense. Also they wanted a pretty clean slate for Bruce to angst over Jason.
If not, Tim and Cass stay in Gotham, Cass still ends up on her roadtrip, we come to Infinite Crisis the same way anyway.
Nothing bad happens with Leslie. There is no character assassination. She remains in Gotham. YAY!
Babs never shows Charlie Steph’s autopsy photos. Maybe she uses Jason’s. Maybe she just…doesn’t do this.
Cass doesn’t hallucinate Steph. Maybe she has visions of someone else, or none at all, or someone else like Boston Brand turns up.
Fast forward to 2008. No Steph in Gotham Underground (which she does nothing in anyway, it’s just a tease about a return)
We skip the Steph returns plot as no Steph. (This bit doesn’t make a lot of difference, fewer assassins).
Steph working with Ulysses Armstrong to ‘test’ Tim – either Bruce can arrange this nonsense himself, or you know, Ulysses is an annoying villain anyway. Maybe HE just causes problems on purpose. Maybe the back of Tim’s head never gets burnt. That would be nice.
Batgirl Volume 2: Steph does not feature in this.
Battle for the Cowl: Steph essentially sits this out apart from complaining that Tim told her to retire.
Batgirl Volume 3: three big ways this could have gone. 1. Cass gets an ongoing again, after all that character rehab done in Volume 2, instead of being shipped off to exile/Hong Kong. Cass plays Batgirl to Damian’s Robin, which would create interesting dynamics. 2. The slot is used for the Batwoman ongoing that had been in development hell since 2007, Rucka gets 26 issues rather than 10. 3. We get Babsgirl two years earlier. Oracle: The Cure did what the name promised on the tin, follows through on the old Brainiac tumour plot. (Ugh)
Cass PROBABLY still plays Batgirl to Damian’s Robin in option 2, with only sporadic appearances in titles not written by Morrison. Option 3 obviously has some Dick and Babs conflict over the fact she can now walk, Babs probably still runs a Birds of Prey during this time. Cass likely still gets shipped off.
Nu!52 happens. No Steph.
Rebirth. I’m unfamiliar with most of Steph’s appearances from her reappearance onwards, but the thing everyone always says is that she basically shows up as “Tim’s Girlfriend” or “StephnCass”. Cass doesn’t appear as a double feature. Tim’s obviously dating other people. Scanning the wiki entries doesn’t show me much of anything loadbearing that wouldn’t just be written as Cass by herself. Steph apparently talks an OMAC-Tim down at one point? Maybe his favourite, most trusted brother (Dick) could do that instead.
#Steph’s an interesting character!#it’s just when you’re talking about pivotal plot or storytelling moments surrounding her it’s War Games or War Games#and she was essentially a sacrifice to make War Games happen#not everyone needs to be a main character#also the fact that there was a lot of Bat events that used 2 out of 3 of Helena Cass and Steph#makes substituting Steph easy#pop in the character who was sitting this one out

2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 29, 30 for comics
coming from this ask game
2. The most recent comic you got
The Boy Wonder #4
picked it up this wednesday at my LCS, (along with batman #151 and absolute power #2), i have seriously enjoyed this black label mini sm so far and this issue made me so soft and melty inside fr
5. The oldest comic you have
New Teen Titans Annual #1
this came out august 19, 1982, so it's...like ten days away from being 42 years old? neat!!
6. The comic you were most excited to find
Nightwing (2011) #15
so this a screenshot bc i actually got this as a gift for my brother-in-law!!
mini story time: when i decided i wanted to start reading bat comics, i went to him and asked where to start for nightwing and he loaned me his collection of n52 nightwing with great excitement lmao. (he started reading nightwing midway through this run releasing- it's what got him into nightwing- no judging allowed!!) this was the first series he started collecting/one of the two he kept when he sold most of his collection to pay for his honeymoon.
he didn't have the whole run though, (which omg we talked about pricing and it is wild how much the value of a comic book fluctuates), so i decided to get the handful of issues he was missing for him as a birthday gift. this was really easy except for this issue bc it has two covers. this one, and a joker version. i passionately hate the joker cover but it was the only one i could find- in person or online, so i almost gave up. being patient paid off, though, and i was able to get him the cover i wanted!! very exciting. plus!! he was so stoked when he saw the cover bc, as it turns out, he also hated the joker cover, which is why he didn't own the issue
7. The comic you searched for the longest
Red Robin #25
i started collecting red robin on oct 15, and i got this issue (the last one i needed), on feb 20, so it took a little over four months. i usually have pretty great luck at finding what i'm looking for the day i go looking for it lol, so this was super satisfying to bring home for a variety of reasons
9. The longest comic/collected edition you have
New Teen Titans Omnibus Vol. #1, Robin 80th Anniversary: 100-Page Super Spectacular
i'm pretty sure the ntt omni is bigger than any of the saga omnis i have, but i will confess i did not check page count. fun fact tho, i got this signed by marv wolfman. got to chat with him for a bit about tim, nightwing, and getting into the industry which was super neat.
and then the robin 80th is the longest single i own. i think? again, did not check page count but i can't think of anything longer. i don't think b:ul or wf3 are longer?
29. The comic you're currently reading...
...(or want to re-read soon)
Superboy (1994) #1, Robin (1993) #1, Young Justice (1998) #1
i just started reading superboy today!! i've been looking forward to reading him for awhile and finally made it to him, woo!! enjoying it so far too :)
and then i'm just kinda constantly in a state of wanting to re-read robin and yj98 lmao. idk if it'll happen 'soon', idk why but i get super squirrelly about re-reading when i have other stuff on my tbr 😅. i don't have that many titles left on my tbr so. i'll either finish my tbr or break somewhere and re-read. i honestly don't know lmao
30. Dealer's choice: a random comic!
Nightwing (2016) #87
i got this bad boy for free because i made the vendor laugh 😎 (disclaimer, ship who you want, i'm not judging or looking for a fight, okay? okay cool.)
i was at the Collectibles Warehouse (generic made-up name) with my dad for the first time, super fun, and he was helping me look/asking questions as we went. the vendor saw me looking through his nightwing stuff and started telling me about an issue of batgirl (babs) he had just sold, the first time they kissed i think? first something for dickbabs.
dad: "oh first kiss, that's pretty cool, do you want to see that one?"
me: "no, i'm okay"
dad: "i thought you liked him with the redhead??"
me, laughing: "i do, but the redhead i like is starfire"
dad: "he's been with multiple redheads?!"
me, dying laughing: "yes"
dad (stage whisper): "so you don't ship him with her...are they a bad couple?"
me: "...i just prefer him with starfire"
vendor, apparently eavesdropping, burst out laughing: "i had no idea young people still shipped those two! dc's been pushing dickbabs so hard, i thought all the kids liked them. man i love when he's with starfire. you want that comic?" (i was holding the comic, about to show my dad bc, yk, pretty cover) "for you, that one's free"
me: "are you sure?!" (this was a more expensive one- not like Expensive, just above retail)
vendor: "oh yeah, you just made my whole day"
never think i'll experience that again, very entertaining series of events.
bonus: dad's reaction to the cover
dad: "oh my. his pants are very...shiny. look at his thighs! he has very nice thighs, wow"
me: "dude, ikr!!"
tysm for the ask, anon!! i hope you enjoyed the answers :)

Batman 2016 #29
Psylocke & Archangel Crimson Dawn #2 (1997)
Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 1 113 (1986)
Spider-Man Vol 1 #18, Revenge of the Sinister Six Part One (1992)
Spider-Man Vol 1 #38, Light The Night Part One (1993)
Spider-Man Vol 1 #25
All of 2000 Beast Boy 4/4
Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 2 Variant cover (1992)
Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 4 Variant cover (1992)
Robin III Cry of the Huntress Part 1 (1992)
Firestorm Vol 2 #9 (1983)
Robin Vol Vol #1 (1991)
Robin Vol 2 #85 (1993)
All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder Vol 1 #6
Batgirl Vol #5 (2000 series)
Batgirl #9 (2000 series)
The Punisher 2099 #2 (1993)
Young Justice Vol 1 #10 (1999)
Immortal Doctor Fate #1 (1985)
Another variant cover of Robin Vol 1 #1
I've been meaning to get the Batgirl series and YJ, and I got Robin III CotH 2, 4, and 6 on my last antique store visit, so now I have the variant covers of 2 and 4 and the normal 1. Also get to have the #2 of The Punisher 2099, since I'm pretty sure I have the first somewhere.
Anyways now I owe my dad 87 dollars bc the comics were on average 3 $ each, shitty, I know, but I also havent seen any Batgirl or Robin in the past places I've gone so I jumped at the opportunity. Time to indulge in paid child labour /s
Also got this sick thing: McFarlane Toys Medieval Spawn vs. Malebolgia Spawn Action Figure
I have the og medieval Spawn (they had a bare one in one of their bins too), but hey, Malebolgia + black suit medieval spawn? Thats my shit
Some other stuff I saw but didn't get:
Brb, gotta scrub the walls and clean the windows top to bottom (by my own choice, don't be naive) 👌 -🦎

Androxys' 2023 Comics Wrapped
Happy end of 2023! To celebrate the turning of the year, I wanted to take a quick view back through the comics I read over the last twelve months. Turns out there's... a lot of them.
This isn't 100% perfect, mainly because I'm basing this off the metadata of when comics were added to my computer... I do think there are some comics I added at the end of 2022 but ended up reading in 2023. However, in the interest of being fair, this list won't count those, and is instead only the comics I can confirm I read in 2023.
By my tally, I read 977 comics in 2023 across 78 unique titles. If we assume each comic is 22 pages long, that's 21,494 pages of comics! Of course, some stories are shorter than 22 pages (as if they're splitting with a backup) and some are longer (prestige formats or one-shots). Based on some quick (and quite unscientific) math, I estimate that I spent around four days of my 2023 in the world of DC Comics. And you know what, I'll do it again.
Breaking down my Top 10 single titles, this year I read...
169 Superman/Adventures of Superman/Action Comics issues
128 Batman/Detective Comics issues
104 JSA issues
56 Suicide Squad issues
52 Birds of Prey issues
51 Manhunter issues

Hello there :) may I please have a DC matchup?
At first, I come across as aloof, calm, and socially awkward. I'm very to-the-point, and can sense BS very quickly. I never get involved in drama, but I might make a witty joke while I sit in my little corner and watch with popcorn. I've been told I'm very observant and I've been called an old soul. But when you get to know me, I can be a bit of a gremlin😆.
I have a huge imagination and I'm always daydreaming. I'm creative and I love storytelling. Especially theatre and writing. Once I start writing, I find it hard to stop (as you can see here😂). I'm a film geek who likes psychological horror movies (Hitchcock films, The Shining, Carrie, etc). But I also love Scooby Doo. Another thing I like is archery and being outdoors.
I'm also a complete basketcase and 24/7 stressed. I try to look on the bright side of things when I can, though, and consider my life to be an adventure. I know my problems will be a fun story to tell at parties someday.
One thing I despise is people being condescending, and talking down to me. I'm neurodiverse and I look younger than I am, so I've had my fair share of that. I also hate when conversations get needlessly intellectual and philosophical. Like, if I ask: "What's 1+1?" And someone tells me: "Well...what IS the number one, really? Numbers are just symbols on paper. "
I'm like: "...right, but what's 1+1?" Me wanna know HOW math. Me not wanna know WHY math. Oh, and speaking of math, I hate math.
I also hate watching people argue, because, often, I'll understand both sides, and have an existential crisis over who's right, and who's wrong. Like, if I pick a side, I could pick the WRONG side! What kind of witchcraft is this😱
Fun facts: I was born with weirdly shaped pinky fingers. They're both bent sideways. Apparently it's called "clinodactyli" or something, so that's cool. Also I have OCD, sensory issues and trichotillomania. My favorite movie is Gremlins. One time, I accidentally printed, like, 87 pictures of a cat because I was a dumb 7-year-old, and the entire computer room was flooding with cats. My mom was so mad😂. Also, I'm terrible at videogames. I tried to play World of Warcraft once, and spent over an hour trying to get out of the canyon I accidentally jumped into.
I'm a Genini-Cancer cusp, (technically Gemini) Libra rising. INFP (although, the second time I took a test I got INFJ so idk lol).
(Firstly i just wanted to tell you that 16p test is totally bs🙄. I took it and it kept saying that i was ENFP but my personality doesn’t match with that. So my advice is, just read each description of the personalities and pick the one who suits you the best. I found ESTP the closest to me!)
ANYWAYS
I match you with…
BARBRA GORDON!(Also known as Batgirl or Oracle)
She is a complex character with unique sets of traits. Like you, she is initially portrayed as someone far off, calm, and socially awkward, but she is pretty observant and possesses a sharp sense, making humorist jokes while watching from the sidelines.
Barbara is known for her incredible imagination and love for storytelling, this is noticeable in her role as Oracle. She shares your passion for theatre, writing, and creative business. Additionally, her interest in psychological horror movies could align with your film geek side!
As someone who despises disdain and dislikes overly philosophical discussions, Barbara's very straightforward and blunt personality would resonate with you. In my opinion she's a strong character, but she also has vulnerabilities and struggles with her own daily challenges, which could make her relatable to your basketcase tendencies.
Her experience with being neurodiverse and facing challenges due to her physical disability (she uses a wheelchair) adds depth to her character, much like your experiences with clinodactyli, OCD, sensory issues, and trichotillomania. (I don’t have disabilities so i hope I betrayed this right omg)
Overall, Barbara Gordon's multifaceted personality and ability to adapt to different situations makes her a great matchup for you!!!

Happy birthday to Carmine Infantino who would have turned 98 years old.🦇🙏🏽
Carmine Infantino (May 24, 1925 - April 4, 2013) began his career in the mid-1940s, working on several DC comic books such as ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Black Canary’. While illustrating for Westerns and superhero comics, Infantino was asked to pencil the return of The Flash in 1956 for Showcase #4. With a clear, refined linear style, Infantino not only brought back to life the incredible speed and design of Flash, but also reinvented characters such as Adam Strange, the Elongated Man, the Batman and Batman Family.
In the 1960s, Carmine Infantino penciled in several important moments in the Caped Crusader's comic book history, from introducing his 'new look' (John Broome & Infantino’s “The Mystery of the Menacing Mask!”, Match 1964’s Detective Comics #327), to reviving old rogues such as the Scarecrow (Gardner Fox & Infantino’s “Fright of the Scarecrow!”, December 1966’s Batman #189), to even introducing new heroes such as Barbara Gordon and the modern Batgirl mantle (Gardner Fox & Infantino’s “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!”, November 1966’s Detective Comics #359).
Becoming DC's Editorial director and president in 1967, for the next 30 years Carmine Infantino would continue to dominate the comic panels and spark the eyes and interests of old and new readers in several features, including those with the Dark Knight. Inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 2000 and passing away at the age of 87 in 2013, Carmine Infantino will forever be a pioneer of the Silver Age of comics and an important figure in the history of the Batman.🦇📚
🎨 by Carmine Infantino & Gaspar Saladino, August 1968’s DC Special #1.

I know we joke a lot about Bucky and Sam being gay on a boat while the other Avengers break the universe but where were the other Avengers when they randomly announced a new Captain America

2: Thank you for the rock 😌
2. I'm glad you appreciate it.
1. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JASON & STEPH AKA DISASTER TWINS as opposed to Dick and Donna's Wonder Twins
So this little Robin starts as a street kid. Their father is a criminal, their mother struggles with addiction and they have to grow up way too fast. They try to do good in any way they can but unfortunately they die by the hands of a sadistic criminal that torture them brutally before their death. They get better. Am I talking about Jason or Steph? TRICK QUESTION IT'S BOTH.
Cue Under the Red Hood. Jason is coming back and he has this whole thing planned. It's gonna be theatrical and dramatic and he hears that another Robin just died. Well, it looks like Mr. Black Mask specifically has a target on his back, doesn't he?
More years later. Steph is back as Batgirl. We pretend we do not see most of Jason's shit after UTRH. They finally meet. They bond over the fact that they're the only batfam members that can cook and know how much a banana costs. (No, Bruce, it's not ten dollars.) They're both sarcastic and quippy and dramatic and they get on like a house on fire. Steph likes to sit on his shoulders (she likes to be tall) and he gets fiercely protective of his new little sister.
(Eventually, Steph doesn't know why, but she tells him about her pregnancy. And Jason, who canonically hugged Sheyla Haywood and commented on how hard it must've been for HER to abandon him, simply pets her hair and says that he can't even imagine how strong Steph is for making that decision for her child's sake.)
(Steph wants to resent him, because back when she was Robin, Bruce couldn't handle her because she reminded him too much of Jason in ways Tim never did. But she finds out she can't. She knows how he feels like the family "outcast" and she wants to be a bridge for him. She wants to make Cass understand that Jason isn't bad even if Cass despises him. She finds that she has more in common with him than with the rest of the bats after all.)
They joke that they're the Robins that went wrong (if you joke about something enough it must stop hurting, right?) and, if Nightwing and Troia are Wonder Boy and Wonder Girl, Jason and Steph are Disaster Boy and Disaster Girl. Disaster twins. Jason points out he's at least two years older. Steph argues that that can't be true because he was dead for six months, so he's a year older tops. Cue long hours of pointless bickering over technicalities.
Crystal Brown fully adopts Jason. She invites him over for dinner as often as she does Steph (and it serves as a bittersweet reminder of what Catherine Todd could've been if she recovered but it also feels like home) and she gets so excited when she hears that Jason would've loved to go to med school (with a minor in Literature, of course.)
Steph tries to convince Jason to come public that he's alive and go to college with her. They'll talk shit about their classmates and show them trustfund babies what real top notch students are like.
They like the same musicals and they listen to Broadway soundtracks when they're together. They changed their patrol schedules to run into each other more often and chill while they're doing a stakeout.
Eventually, they have to go to the Batcave for one reason or another. There are painful memories. They stick together, reminding one another that they're not the odd one out, they're not alone this time. They never have to be anymore.

My #1 post of 2022
hear me out: Dick Grayson is deadly allergic to kiwis. One time, (Robin) Jason wanted to sneak out and asked Dick to provide a distraction. Without asking a single question, Dick promptly looked Bruce and Alfred in the eye and took a bite of an unpeeled kiwi.
