#twisted wonderland #twisted wonderland spoilers #twisted wonderland episode 7 spoilers #twisted wonderland book 7 spoilers #twisted wonderland episode 7 part 11 spoilers #twisted wonderland book 7 part 11 spoilers #unfortunately leona's ultimate happy dream did involve his entire family dying tragically. them's the breaks.#(for the record he is a little messed up about this) (he is a little messed up about a lot of stuff)#the context of cheka is that they were going to try to shock leona awake by having him show up #however while styx could provide them with a 3d model based on a bodyscan (which they had for...reasons??) they had no data on his behavior #so he was basically just a little frozen mannequin #(the sprite was not t-posing but in my heart this was happening)#ruggie could kind of pilot him with his magic but it only lasts for a few seconds so he had to keep recasting it with noticeable choppiness #so while we don't get the entire effect due to the limitations of the format #this means that leona was in the middle of let-them-eat-cake'ing a revolution when suddenly #his late nephew bursts jerkily in through the door yelling OJITAN I'M ALIVE AND MY VOICE CHANGED OFFSCREEN #honestly they spent more time thinking of how to explain ruggie's terrible impression of cheka than anything else #how could leona have seen through this brilliant plan so quickly 🤔#man i really did love his horrible dream though #i like him as a character but i wasn't expecting his dream to be the one that got to me like that #love how all the savana dreams were like #jack: what if leona was really cool and my friend :)#ruggie: what if my dad came back and leona created a socialist utopia for me :)#leona: what if i finally got the chance to prove myself except i screwed everything up and everyone hated me and my family was dead #his conversation with kifaji at the end 😭#kifaji in his dream in GENERAL acting as a counterpoint to his phantom like. like!!!! (waves hands)#i just. these guys.#me 4+ years ago: this game looks so dumb i gotta try it. surely i won't become emotionally overinvested in any of this.

the training montage in crossroads re-ignited a headcanon i had of geralt waking up and doing gymnastics, performing kickflips and mid-air spins around on a fencepost outside an hour before sunrise to ‘limber up,�� and bleary-eyed dandelion wrapping himself up in a blanket to be like "heyyy... what the hell are you doing 💖"

#if you're wondering what kind of moves he's doing he's standing on a fencepost and doing your typical flexibility stretches #but alternating between reps of stretches with kickflips from one post to the other #like ciri training in kaer morhen #i'm not going to lie witchers are cool but fandom ruined them a bit for me and now crossroads has given me that childlike wonder back #because fandom heard 'physical ability and stamina' and did you know what with it #but the agility and precision of witchers remain so underrated. as part of the deconstruction of the superhuman trope #geralt doesnt really show off as much in the books and does cool stuff only when needed but #like when (mentioned) he hit the rat in the darkness with his thrown fork... as a party trick #and killing renfri's men in the market at blaviken... and killing the scoia'tael on thanedd #and RUNNING ALONG THE BRIDGE on the battle of the bridge #and the nilfgaardians were amazed and they WERE AMAZED AS THEY DIED!!!!!!!!#and killing rience's mercenaries who didn't know who they were fighting so they were like hey what the fuck... what the fuck #i'm literally back to witcher 101 basics here. nothing interesting to contribute but like a little boy i am just smiling and saying #'dude geralt of rivia is soooo cool he can like fight a bunch of guys with his sword'#half of me wants to seek deeper themes and half of me is just like YOOO GERALT SO COOL !!#listen... there is a time to plant a time to reap #a time to analyze and a time to geek #i should probably just watch a bunch of ballet or best of gymnastics comps and i'll find what i'm looking for #also sorry CROSSROADS OF RAVENS SPOILERS artamon dying was a hilarious moment i know it was like oooh this will have consequences #but it was nice to have the evil antagonist get merked in the sme chapter as he's fucking introduced #and not even by mature experienced geralt but by some literal eighteen year-old who he tried pulling a fast one on #1) i was happy that sapkowski didn't drag it out terribly. this was humorous and refreshing after in season of storms #2) geralt almost riding off but having a feeling to go back... listen i know it's so cliche and it's giving lady of the lake chapter 4 #where he eavesdrops in the caves under castle zubarran and just happens to hear stefan skellen reveal that vilgefortz was in castle stygga #but it also was satisfying to me because after reading the hussite trilogy #where reynevan (stupid and young man; like geralt here) DOES NOT LEARN after several. SEVERAL lessons #i was honestly worried for a second that we were going to get a reynevan moment. but no. because this is geralt and not reynevan #and seeing geralt develop critical thinking skills in real time was not only satisfying but a bit funny #and yes nostalgiabaiting me #like omggggg yesss his detective skills yesss that's so geralt of him

#We've had our yearly secret santa gifts exchange at my dorm and I've been gifted the first volume of Beast 😭😭😭😭😭#I'm crying forever. This december marks three years since I've watched the first b/sd episode #and yet this is the first time I actually own a b/sd manga volume. Like I own it and I can read it whenever I want!!! How cool is that!!!!!#Like there's so many Akutagawa images in it!!!! It's insane!!!!!!!! AND IT'S BEAST AT THAT #I'm deeply moved because I never spoke about it to virtually anyone here (at my dorm)?#Like I suppose a bunch of people vaguely know I like anime but only a couple of close friends know I like. Like-like reading manga lol.#And the person who gifted it DEFINITELY didn't know I like anime in general much less b/sd specifically much less Beast in particular!!!!!#I'm 100% sure (they just arrived this year and we hadn't even had that much occasions to talk to each other).#Which means they went through the trouble of gathering intel from my close friends about what I like and actually follow through‚#seek for the specific manga in a comic store etc... It's such a nice gesture I'm so heartwarmed.#And of course I'm glad for every gift I've received in the last years (genuinely)‚ but the fact that this was the most *specific* to what–#I like. It makes it so special! They were so kind.#There must be one (1) person in this whole 60 people dorm who knows I like Beast–#(that would be the girl who introduced b/sd to me in the first place) and the fact that they asked them for it...#I feel both very grateful and lucky lol #When I unwrapped it!!! Like I thought it was just a random book which would have been nice but like!!!!!#When I actually saw through the thin paper the cover!!!! The scream I screamed in my head #Anyways!!!! I own a b/sd manga now!!!!! I've only got time to go through the first chapter so far but it's suchhhh an experience.#It's like reading it for the first time again 😭😭😭 Half because the translation is so much different than the English one lol.#And I basically know the English version by heart. Half because I never saw this kind of high quality!!!!! It's!!!!! Insane!!!!! Like!!!!!!#I'm crying 😭😭😭 The drawings are so sharp and crisp (in the good way). The lines are so clean there's no disturbance at all #I literally never saw anything so good in my life I'm crying a little. I'm so so glad they blessed me with Beast specifically #The takebon edition is pretty cheap (it's just planet manga so there's no color illustrations or dust cover or anything unfortunatelly.#But to make up for it the volumes are significantly cheaper then let's say J-Pop)#There's also some unique typesetting choices? The text from the book-like boxes is in lowercase which is interesting!#Initially I thought I wouldn't have liked the translation (opening it randomly there was Akutagawa saying “crepa!” (“die!”) to Dazai in ch1 #Which was kinda jarring since it's very low register and everyone knows Akutagawa has very complex speech patterns.)#But actually reading it I'm really enjoying the translation so far!!!!#There's so many choices that made me grasp details I actually missed all the times I've read the English translation.#That is to say! Very excited to read it!!!! Will probably make a review / translation commentary if I can find the time!!!!!

Heard about TK wanting to write WW for 100 issues and do a Trinity spinoff?

Yeah.... that's the word on the street 😔

To be honest with everybody though, I don't think he's hitting 100 issues. I think Tom King THINKS he will be writing 100 issues of WW comics, but I'm very skeptical. Like it's true he got pretty close to 100 issues when he was writing Batman, but that was during Rebirth, when comics were being published twice a month. At a normal monthly pace, 100 main title issues works out to be a bit over EIGHT YEARS. Even with specials and annuals and possible events (or the Trinity spinoff) compressing that timeline, there's still no way in my mind that Tom hits 100 issues in any less than five years. He spent three on Batman. You know, Batman, his #1, the guy he has to bring up every issue? Do we really think he's going to spend over twice as long on Diana?

Like personally I'm just not convinced that Tom King cares enough about Wonder Woman to write her for that long. Like I think he likes her, and I think he thinks she's cool, but reading his book he seems to love to put the focus anywhere except on Diana. Like all the narration is done by the villain (meaning we don't get Diana's actual thoughts on any of this) and the backup are all TK's audition to write supersons (so we're losing page space that could be utilized to develop the current narrative in favor of possible future stories with no plot relevance)

Like idk. Tom King is talking the talk and I think he has the power at DC currently to walk the walk if he really wants to do it and his hype squad keeps sales high, but he hasn't convinced me so far with his work that he has it in him to see out so many issues of Wonder Woman, especially when Diana finally defeats the Sovereign, and if Trinity gets her own book, like what is he going to do with his remaining 80 issues? Actually telling WW stories?

It seems to me from what I've read of his WW and interviews abt it is that this "100 issues of Wonder Woman" thing is coming from his opinion that Diana deserves a 100-issue run, rather any great, passionate love for Diana that would actually motivate him to write her for that long.

So anyways, my stance is that if he's really putting in a long one (however long it may be) we just hope for the best, (Diana getting her narration boxes back and being central in her own story again, Trinity getting booted back to Themyscira to be forgotten raised offscreen, etc.) and try to make the most & wait it out

#idk i could talk more abt this but ive already talked a lot so idk #think tom king is really wanting to be pérez here (p sure i read him saying as much in an interview) but instead i predict it ending up as #more of a WML type run (just with much better art)#idk idk. worried that were going to have the Sovereign stuff take forever and ever which is super annoying to me. i literally hate him so #much. not even in a fun way like i want diana to beat the shit out of him and get him out of my comics books permanently like yesterday #also worried that hes going to try and have baby trinity be a part of the narrative. as in a diana raising her type way. like if baby #trinity gets kidnapped and she has to get her back like ok fine but think theres a possibility king hits a wall when it comes to like diana #actually being her mother. bc like diana is one of if not the busiest superhero in the dcu shes got major shit to do and no partner or #stability to actually take care of a baby while still being wonder woman. plus she has an entire island nation that would (and has!) take #that child in in an instant. so like pls go with that and not try and juggle plates and do the former #esp bc having trinity be raised on the island basically cancels out the diana's kid stuff. like not bio related not being raised like thats #just a relative homie #idk #anyways calling it now hes falling short of the hundo. hope im not proven wrong here #or that maybe one day tk wakes up with a miraculous ability to write great wonder woman stories. id be cool with that too. we take good news #here too folks #blah

YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version

follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place

as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer

and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty

great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)

#walking in two worlds #the everlasting road #wab kinew #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts!#I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience!#There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression #I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional #- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much #It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life.#she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat..#then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression!#her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it #could have..#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)#also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic!#the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools #the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays #but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

does anyone that's been playing since before 2021 know why they stopped doing freeplay events?

#cause i was looking through some pics on the wiki and apparently they held freeplay events for older books during 2021 #basically everything was free i'm guessing? so no teacups or diamonds needed #which sounds really cool tbh #i wish they kept doing that #romance club

slightly speculative but it makes so much sense that communicative spells that need to travel through leylines aren't working while magic generally is; ruidus is currently being held in place by the malleus key, (therefore halting its orbit at the peak of the solstice), and planerider ryn first started looking into the red moon because of how its flares affect/disrupt the natural cycle of leylines. if everything is "stuck," then it makes sense that leylines are stuck too at this moment of alignment bc all of that power is being directed towards the key, therefore spells can't necessarily travel through them

#basil.ramblings #cr spoilers #like we basically know this already ('you are being dragged across the weave of leylines... where everything is pulled toward...')#but i just think it's really cool!!#it's also cool how the primary key is (trying to) pull energy from the other planes but ludinus only has like. half of a working key #in the shadowfell rn. which works out nicely bc if transportation/planar spells are also affected like.#you can't really go back & fix shit/speed up the process of eating away at the gate on ruidus; which would work in bh's favor #except for of course the fact that there's like 100 people at the site at the moment.#i wonder if all of these sending spells are currently just stuck so once everything starts moving again they'll be received #or if the magic just fizzles out Or if they're being drawn into the key which would be pretty fucked #anyway i just need a whole book about exandrian cosmology dsfkjh
