every time i see someone call tron 'cyberpunk', i lose ten years off my lifespan

#note to self literally never read letterboxd reviews of movies i like i cant do it anymore kdjfgkdssd #say you saw the movie and the plot and visuals went right over your head without saying it #like. in what world is tron dystopic?? cyberpunk in itself is an offshoot of dystopian fiction. tron is not about an imagined future #tron is about an imagined PRESENT. thinking about our PRESENT relationship with technology in relation to the times each film was released #tron is in equal measures hopeful and critical about technology. that is NOT cyberpunk #the only CyberPunk that matters in tron is the Tron2.0 character of the same name #i will admit that tron's plot is cyberpunk derived but its. idk man its not the same thing #thematically its different. visually i think tron shares developmental artists with blade runner where the cyberpunk visual stereotype was #- established #but blade runner is more pure cyberpunk thematically than tron is. does that make any sense #and. and. listen to me. i am number one retrofuture fan. i love syd mead. i love moebius. but listen. just because they worked on tron -#- does NOT mean tron is thematically OR visually retrofuturistic either!! the visuals match the time it was made!! thats not retrofuturism!#thats normal scifi based on the every day!!!#tron is a sandbox and at the end of the day anyone can do whatever they want its all just for fun #at the same time. the entire story of tron is being severely misrepresented when labelled as cyberpunk. and it makes me sad #these are very shallow thoughts i just miss literary thematic analysis sometimes. my film studies classes cannot come soon enough #rex speaks

im super late to the party but honestly from what ive seen twisted wonderland is a better disney love letter than wish could have ever dreamed to be

#remember to keep boycotting disney you know the drill #i did not watch this movie i was watching reviews online and ive literally never given twst money other than i bought the manga #oh and i own a kalim nendoroid but i got that second hand #anyway twst has always felt like a big love letter to og disney despite its standing 'what if all the disney villains were hot anime boys'#but it really is it incorporates a lot of elements of those movies tastefully and does a good job making the villains sympathetic #but also traditionally mean #which is what wish was trying to do with magnifico make him traditional but sympathetic and like twst has already shown u can do both #of course in a more high stakes senario cuz twst is set in school with teens but if you extrapolated that then ur golden #also all the songs that have come out of twst have been bangers just saying #i think it was also a good play to position itself as AFTER the stories #cuz it rids itself of timeline issues #twst has a lot of wonky representation (why is jack in this game at all? sebek's base is just lightning)#and some of the designs could have been improved had they not had to be ikemens (fat kalim) but what its done its great disney wise #wish is souless but twst got people excited about fucking fellow honest(honest john) in 2023 now thats power #twisted wonderland #twst

idk is it just me. or is this whole max sending out surveys about its shows (including ofmd) kinda .. icky???

in some ways. cool that they care about what people think and want. to some extent.. i guess.

but on the other hand. a fucking survey like that from the company itself. like it's a product you ordered online and the company is asking "how valued do you feel as a customer at h&m?" (which is also fucking ridiculous and silly don't get me wrong).

i really really don't want tv shows to cater to some kind of statistical average (or unhinged people who are gonna write essays in the write in options). i want talented showrunners and writers to get good budgets and good teams to tell stories they are actually passionate about telling.

#our flag means death #a survey like that IS kinda interesting #like research on media and media reception can be interesting #but jesus christ #from max itself. it's so Capitalism. it's like a product review #idk i saw a screenshot of it and had a viceral reaction #also i know that studios already do test screenings #and that studios can interfere based on what they feel will be commercially successful or not #not saying this makes all of that worse #but also. i hate all of it it's all so gross think of all the amazing stuff we do not get because artists arent allowed to just create

Slight Update

One: I haven't even really been working on anything important, like writing or drawing. Mainly because I decided to replay a game that I adore.

Two: I'm not gonna be home for a while meaning that I can't even work on these pieces EVEN IF I WANTED TO.

However, I will be writing The Shadow's Legend in a physical form... IE writing it by hand. I will say I have drawn my sona in the outfit of the main character of the game that I've been playing though! Doubt that'll be her final design.

Will, also, draw them in a traditional outfit of just a shirt and shorts. I really liked an outfit that someone else shared... so I might draw that design as well. Anyways, I might have several sketches ready for choice because I just can't decide on an outfit. Maybe having you guys choose what's the best might help.

Edit: I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE SHADOW'S LEGEND CHARACTER LINEUP MIGHT HAVE CHANGED SLIGHTLY

#update #blog updates #Oh and yes I will reveal that game #I've been playing it on the switch but it did recently come out on Steam (February 13 2024)#And I really do kind of want it on steam but I don't need it on there because I have it on switch #From what I've read of the reviews though the Steam version is based off of the phone version...#WON'T STOP ME FROM GETTING IT THOUGH!#Ah yeah forgot to even say what that game is #It's Dragon Quest Builders and the sequel (which I own both on PC and switch) Dragon Quest Builders 2 #I just love those games so much

hey anyone else feel like a fair portion of popular book reviewers on youtube actually do not. review books

#like they have very few takes based in any form of analysis #they mostly talk about their shock and horror around badly written romance or erotica?#not saying they’re not entertaining. I am watching for a reason #but it does a bit bother me how many people out in the world seem to rely on the audience’s presumed emotional reaction to elements #of the book #rather than trying to provide some meaningful original commentary #to me sarah z and strange aeons are examples of the opposite. ppl who review cultural events or media and are always willing to look past an #initial emotional reaction to get to some meaningful analysis #whereas almost everyone reviewing colleen hoover or whoever else is big on tiktok rn almost lean more into a commentary or tea channel style #🤷 what do I know

yeah i feel like the term "video essay" has become generalised to mean any sort of longform review or discussion youtube content, without a need for a solid thesis or baseline level of analysis at the structural core of the video (having seen the term applied to media reviews, icebergs, tier lists, series recaps etc), and that misclassification can be pretty unfortunate, but i don't think that necessarily means that those video not-quite-essays have an inherent lack of value or passion in them yknow?

#like. based on what prompted me to make this post #im not defending any qualms people have with qu!nton reviews as a person to be clear but i do think that like #a lot of criticisms that people have towards his videos and others like them are kinda.. fuckin stupid?#they're researched! they're transformative! they're too infrequent to be content farming! they're (ymmv) entertaining!#the length and topic are not issues to me and frankly i think that people who sneer at long runtimes and children's media analysis #are usually being pretentious and disingenious about it #again not saying you Need to like that kinda video or that one guy as a person. im aware there's some questionable shit around him #but i really just do not think 90% of the criticisms about those videos are in good faith

got an ad for a course that looks right up my alley (like, too-good-to-be-true levels of up my alley) and toyed with the idea of possibly signing up. asked my mom what she thinks, including abt the price and such, fully expecting her to shut me down and say it's too expensive or isn't a good direction to take, but no even before i started listing the actual cool stuff you get from it she already got so excited and told me to sign up and that it sounds perfect for me and such. so i guess we'll see

#and now when i open facebook it's the only ad I'm getting lol which is fine ig.#i looked up reviews of this school and everything was 5 stars talking about what a great place it is and a great guy is the one running it #i have the perfect background and base talents for it so i doubt i won't be able to get in or smth #but i am. worried. bc ik i can't handle being out and with people i don't know. my anxiety is too bad #and just bc i was able to do this sort of thing in the past doesn't mean I'll be able to now when I'm way worse abt it 😐#also from a technical standpoint i don't think I'd be able to like. walk from the nearest bus station and such #(not that I'd be able to take the bus either but you get me. putting the anxiety aside. talking physical stuff here)#ajskglj ig i expected my mom to say no bc i was HOPING she would so I'd have an excuse #but now the only thing standing in my way is me ig. nothing new but still very annoying

I might have finished my search for the perfect Bob flannel 🧍‍♀️ I actually found a company that makes shirts based off of the ones he and Doug wear so the pattern is perfect but WHY IS IT A POLYESTER BLEND

IN WHAT WORLD is a flannel made of polyester you MONSTERS... so I THINK I'm gonna buy this vintage one from Etsy instead

cause the pattern is like PERFECT, it has red buttons just like his whereas the replica has black ones, it's half the price, it's all cotton, and if I thrift one then it'll feel more worn in and like I stole it from him 🥰🤭 and they have another blouse in their shop that I like a lot
