every newer gen kpoppy who calls it revolutionary every time a big name bg member wears something vaguely skirt-like should be required to watch lee sungjong of infinite putting his whole pussy into performing coming of age ceremony by park jiyoon wearing the song's classic form-fitting black side-slitted dress with zero gimmicks way back in 2012
#its Required Material re: historical kpop genderfuckery#no but im 100% for real. this was in the middle of the era where bg members doing gg songs in drag and whatnot was a really#common gag at concerts and in variety shows and whatnot- especially using bg members who were/are considered the most effeminate#basically it was a big Joke and never taken seriously. alot of the time the dances would be exaggerated and whatnot and yeah they#werent like. REAL covers. werent usually respectful of the original gg/female idol's work and all that. haha man in dress type humor#i know if you're old enough to be following me and into kpop you probably know this already and im talking into space but whatever#anyway. sungjong said fuck that and fucking killed it with a genuine live cover (dance And vocals) of coming of age ceremony#which- as you can imagine based on the title- isnt just an iconic female idol song but one that's blatantly about female sexuality#and whatnot. wore the dress that's in the original mv (or something very similar) and didnt play it up with a wig or anything like that#(like what's usually the case when male idols cover gg songs to make it more clear that its a Costume and they are Crossdressing rather tha#just. being a guy and wearing a dress.)#did not shy away from the sexiness of the dance AT ALL to the point of riding the floor at one point more or less which. god fucking damn#but anyway. it's totally true to the original and is unapologetically sexy in an inherently orientation-fucking gender-fucking way and GOD#wish it got more attention than it did because THAT is revolutionary. thats the first performance i ever saw where a male idol did a#female idol song in the original female idol outfit live without any gimmick or even the implication that it COUNTS as drag. its SUCH a#big deal imo. and it helps that its really fucking hot but thats neither here nor there. anyway. i know its been years but i still have so#many feelings and opinions about sungjong's coming of age ceremony performance ghfgjhdgfdh WATCH IT#sungjong#infinite#kibumblabs

Hey, so for Watcher fans who may not wanna pay for another subscription or just wanna watch something new here are some other youtubers you should take a look at if you want to get a spook or learn some history
(* = potentially triggering topics covered usually associated with crimes, so be careful)
Ghost Hunting and general spooky vibes:
AmysCrypt - Your typical ghost hunting show with two Australians traveling the world, though I will say they do go to places I've never heard of before and they do very good research. And there are some goofs along with the spooks.
The Ouija Brothers - Two British dudes finding ghosts in England. The vibes are generally pretty chill and it's a good time
The Paranormal Scholar - A mixed bag of all paranormal happenings from ghosts to demons to cryptids and aliens. Sort of an overview to deepdives on various paranormal occurrences. The research is immaculate and their voice is very soothing in my opinion.
Paranormal Quest - Ghost hunting in the US, sometimes goofy sometimes serious, but they do go to some interesting places and some familiar ones too
Weird History:
ObsoleteOddity* - This guy is great, like 80% of the things he covers I've never heard of before. Very atmospheric, fun little visuals, and a large variety of weird events and people for topics.
Georgia Marie* - A little bit of everything, but she focuses on strange things that have happened, lgbt history, true crime, and historical disasters. She covers enough of everything that I'm sure you'll find something
Stefanie Valentine* - I'm not sure if she even posts anymore, but I thought what she was doing was great. Think Vampira or Elvira but for older true crime and ghost stories, I think the latest covered would have been like early 1900s. Idk I just thought it was like a cute spooky lil storytime
Caitlin Doughty or Ask A Mortician* - Pretty sure y'all would know who she is but just in case, she's a mortician who covers topics relating to death! From odd ways people have died, or odd things that have happened to people after they've died. And just odd or tragic things that have happened through history. It's silly, but done with levity and care and respect the topics deserve.
General History:
Part-Time Explorer - Mostly history on ships and ghost towns with the occasional train. Lots of research and interviews, very well done and worth checking out even if it may not be your thing.
History's Forgotten People - Talks about sometimes obscure, or sometimes not, historical individuals. Even if you've heard of the person in the topic, they'll talk on something obscure about that person.
History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday - A heavy focus on royalty around the world, a generally upbeat dive into historic individuals.
(Or you could always go watch time team, that's an option and it's my guilty pleasure love me some archeology)
True Crime:
There are so many out there, so I'll just recommend two of my favorites
Gabulosis* - She focuses on vintage cases 20 years or older (literally in her opener) and is well researched and respectful. Another one that talks on cases I've never heard of that deserve to be heard.
Mysterious WV* - True crime and missing persons based in the West Virginia area and neighboring states. Idk how to even explain the vibes. This guy is just great please watch him trust me you won't be disappointed.
That's all for now, feel free to add your own recs out there!
#or you can just go watch night mind lol#watcher#ghost files#mystery files#puppet history#too many spirits#youtube recommendations#youtube recs#ghost hunting#history#true crime#let me know if you want any more

We’re making a super gay super inclusive TAROT DECK!!! We want every card to be in a fantasy world and featuring at least one LGBT person. We’re looking for up to 78 artists, potentially one artist per card, but we may choose to have some artists do up to 2 cards.
Applications open October 10th at 1pm Eastern time and will remain open until October 13th at noon eastern OR we reach an application cap of 1000 entries.
Apps will be open for 24 hours minimum.
The application will NOT be available until that date - we will post it here, instagram (nova_mali), bluesky, and tumblr (novaandmali). Please be sure to set an alarm and get your application in ASAP - we will not be able to take any applications through email, dms, or after they close.
A tentative schedule:
Results emailed to EVERYONE on October 15th.
Sketch due Nov 31
Finals due Jan 15
Kickstarter running Jan 1-31
We are looking for up to 78 artists (who MUST be 18+ years old by October 15th) to join us to create a piece of digital art and/or merch. Traditional art is also accepted if scanned or photographed at a professional level.
We're looking specifically to increase the diversity of our artists, both in regards to race and gender - we want to be including all kinds of voices. Same thing with our art - we're looking to increase the variety of cultures, body types, and disabilities represented.
This is a PAID job. We’ve paid in the range of 200-300 for similar projects in the past, based on a set contract amount plus anything left over after production and shipping, split between everyone. Example: $150 in the contract and $100 extra per artist share. The additional amount will depend on how successful the Kickstarter campaign is.
Your app will ask you what you’re thinking about creating. This is not a final answer but we want to know what vibe, what era, etc what you’re thinking about. You’ll get the option to pick 2 suits you’re interested in working in, and 1-2 cards you very much do not want to illustrate.
The application will include things like: a link to your portfolio (instagram and twitter are NOT accepted as a portfolio) and if you are interested in designing any merch as well.
We also ask for a short artist bio: think twitter style - short and sweet. Please don’t talk down about yourself or your skills - talk yourself up! Make me excited to see your art!!
Reminder about our applications: PLEASE do not submit porn or gore in your highlight art. Blood and nudity are ok, porn and gore please no.
Hopefully it goes without saying but we do not accept NFT art or AI generated art.
About us: we’re two non-binary lesbians who really love cats and gay art. We’ve enjoyed our work as a queer publishing house and can’t wait to do more! We’ve completed 9 projects including tarot cards and books! Some of our previous works include classics but make it gay, And They Were Monsters, and Cover Me Queer.
Check out our work at www.novaandmali.com .

If I could ask you for some advice, what do you think helps the flavour text of a mech or piece of equipment sell a player on the fantasy of using it?
I'm finding it frustratingly difficult to do so with my own homebrew content: I can come up with lore and backstory easily enough, but re-reading it feels dry, and I can't help but contrast it with how the descrptions in official content and other supplements is more evocative, at least for mechs.
Let's observe some corebook Lancer flavour text and examine the various varieties it comes in.
Purely Functional
While it's usually not the most fun type of flavour text, this just tells us what the weapon is, and - if it has any particular tags or on-hit effects - why it's like that. The Hand Cannon is a good example: here's what it is (modified pistol), here's why it does more damage, and here's why it has Loading.
The main advantage of Purely Functional flavour text is that it provides space for other types of flavour text to breathe. Flavour text is a great place for jokes, but it's not good for every piece of flavour text to be a joke - the pauses between notes in music are just as important as the notes.
Obfuscating Vendorspeak
The Bristlecrown Flechette Launcher this is a great example of dark humour that Lancer uses quite often: marketing fast-talk to cover up something really unpleasant. The joke here is based on us understanding precisely what the equipment does mechanically, and then seeing how the manufacturer tries to sell it. There's a bunch of dense technobabble here meant to obfuscate the fact that this weapon fires knives in every direction specifically designed to kill infantry.
Deadpan Weirdness
The joke here relies on describing something extremely weird like it's the most natural thing in the world. Wait, you're telling me that in a world where I can just print new parts if the old ones break, they put DRM on my fucking knife and I have to apologise to the fucking knife maker to get a new one? What the fuck, dude? Why are you acting like this makes any sense?!
My sword uploads fucking what to the Space Internet?!
Third-Act Twist
This type of flavour text disguises itself as something else - most often Purely Functional - and then hits you with Third Act Twist. It makes you go "wait, what?!" It's very classic setup-punchline stuff. You're telling me my mech can rot?!
As a side note, Lancer loves to use this for its NHPs.
WHY DID YOU PUT THAT IN SCARE QUOTES, LUCIFER
Worldbuilding
This is similar to the Purely Functional, but instead of just describing technical specifications of the weapons, it puts the weapon in the broader context of the setting's history. Okay, so we know what this weapon is and what it does - why was it built? What was the original use case, and why? Most importantly, what can the existence of this weapon tell us about the world that build it?
Whimsical Aside
This is the insertion of a light-hearted, humanising little insertion regarding how this piece of equipment gets used in the field. This serves to remind us that soldiers aren't cold, unfeeling killing machines: they can be as emotional, irreverent and silly as the rest of us, and they do things like name their mobile bombs...
... or call resupply drones "mech snacks."
The Ominous Out-Of-Context Quote That Explains Nothing And Only Raises More Questions
As I've said in multiple textmash memes, this is basically Tom and Miguel's shorthand for "this technology is Intensely Fucked Up in a way that it is more fun and scary not to explain." This is essentially Lancer's version of SCP's [REDACTED].
You might think this is the domain of HORUS, and you'd be right, but every single manufacturer indulges in these - although IPS-N had to wait until NRFaW to get theirs:
What the fuck do you mean by that, Lancer?

TOP HEADLINE TODAY: new kbs variety show announced - first mc revealed to be s.irens' nova
the memories of bora bora stuck to you like maple syrup on your hands for years. it was a haunting notion to consider the trip the beginning of the end. you remember the way the golden sand stretched out across the water for what felt like forever, as it shimmered and sparkled under the relentless sun. you could hear jungkook’s laughter echoing in your ears like a melody of a song that looped in your head. the sharpest image of that week glared at you angrily - the first serious fight that you ever got into with your boyfriend.
it was a given that you and jungkook butted heads like any other long-term couple, but you found yourself stomping away to nayoung’s hotel room at the end of the third night with a bundle of clothes in your hands and tear-stained cheeks.
when she swung the door open, her heavy lids indicated that she was about to burst into a complaint about you waking her up. instead, nayoung’s eyes jolted open when they read the expression on your face.
“what happened?” she asked.
you fought a wail, making sure to shove any sort of crying down your throat because god knows you would never stop if you started. nayoung frowned and opened the door wider, gesturing for you to come in.
her room was always messy at the dorms and you weren’t shocked to find her hotel room in a similar state of disarray. however, it beat the way you trashed the room you’d been sharing with jungkook. clothes on the floor, random objects hurled at the wall, and even a lamp abandoned on the floor. the anger you felt was unlike anything you’d ever felt before. you admitted this to nayoung, who looked at you like you had two heads.
“yeah, we fought and i may have knocked some things over. . . “
your temperament was definitely an issue to be discussed, but in your eyes, there were more pressing problems to address. when nayoung made room for you to sit on the left side of the bed, you immediately tucked yourself under the covers and let a few tears stream down your face.
she frowned. “what were you guys fighting about?”
“jungkook thinks that i’m always too focused on work,” you explained, swiping at your face. “he said i don’t make enough time for him.”
at this point, you were four years into debut and permanently stuck in the fast lane. a few major events occurred in your career recently that changed the trajectory of your group’s popularity - the first being the departure of miseul. it was an unfortunate situation, as she requested the termination of her contract to go back to her hometown, where her grandmother was ill. the company then replaced her with a new girl, cara, who you did not get along with. there was no choice in the matter, though, and your group’s first comeback with the new lineup happened earlier that year.
another signficant dynamic change was nayoung’s quick rise to stardom as an actress. she’d starred in a drama that was one of the most popular of all time on mbc and as a result, grew in popularity that arguably surpassed your group. she had endorsements and jobs coming left and right, which was prioritized by your company over the group’s endeavours.
it was a bitter feeling, being overshadowed by both your own group mate and boyfriend, but you instead focused on working harder and taking on every project you could. even with bts’ growing status and schedules, you found yourself making less and less time for jungkook and his argument was that he always did more for the relationship than you did.
“focused on work? we’re literally on vacation.” nayoung sighed, coming into bed with you. “i’m glad you’re here, though, y/n. i feel like i haven’t seen you since we landed.”
agreeing to the bora bora trip was a reluctant decision, as it was originally just supposed to be a composition of your and jungkook’s friends. you only wanted to bring nayoung and sooah, until the latter convinced you to ask cara to tag along, since they didn’t want to leave her out. the trip was intended to be the time for you to bond with jungkook, but you were now put into a position to also bond with your group members, especially since things hadn’t really been the same with the girls since miseul left.
“nayoung, we’re still friends right?” you asked meekly, feeling pathetic even as you said it.
her shoulders dropped and she pulled you into an embrace. “of course we are! why would you say that?”
“ever since we stopped living with each other and since miseul left. . .” you trailed off, tearing away. “i feel like the group sees each other as just coworkers or something.”
you were now twenty years old and experiencing life independently. the same was said for your group mates, as you were all now off doing your own things and only reuniting once or twice a year for a comeback. at some point, you considered these girls sisters. now, those feelings felt miles away. even the bora bora trip felt forced.
“y/n,” nayoung’s tone grew serious. “i’m always going to be here for you.”
this would be the last time that s.irens would spend time together outside of work. sooah and nayoung’s relationship soured over the years to the point where they no longer spoke by 2020 - a result of merely growing up and growing out of childhood friendships. you also began building resentment against nayoung, who would become the country’s it girl in no time and stopped publicly acknowledging that she was in a girl group. you eventually no longer considered her a friend, deciding you did not want her arrogance in your life. miseul only texted you once a year to say happy birthday. this was the breakdown of the only support system you had.
when morning came after staying up until dawn with nayoung, you found yourself sneaking back into your and jungkook’s shared hotel room. you were surprised to see that he was not in bed, but felt a salty breeze stream in from the balcony.
you stepped forward and saw jungkook sitting down, eyes fixed on the aquamarine of the beach ahead. when you opened the door wider to let yourself out, he already knew it was you.
“i’m sorry, bug,” he immediately said, too ashamed to look at you.
you were convinced that it was your hothead that drove the majority of the argument and his apology made your heart sink. you were the one who threw things at the wall and spiralled without looking back. he shot back with his own words, but you knew that you were the one who started it.
without warning, you sat right beside jungkook and wrapped your arms around his back. you put your chin on his shoulder and he physically relaxed, as if he’d been carrying sandbags for days. you whispered an apology against his neck and held back tears.
“you’re right. i’ve been a horrible girlfriend.” you hated how bitter the words tasted. “i’m going to do my best to fix my work-life balance. you try so hard for me.”
TOP HEADLINE TODAY: the 2017 edition of the idol star ahtletic competition now filming in goyang!
you never felt at fault for your hot temper when jungkook’s jealous eye followed you like a lost puppy. it was just as much as a problem as your own shortcomings and it always felt like a battle of who’s more in the wrong between you two.
everyone looked forward to each year’s edition of the idol star athletic championsips, a kind break amidst the hustle and bustle of a regular schedule. some of the more active idols took the games quite seriously, but for you and the rest of s.irens, it was several days of filming that were ultimately far more chill than any of your regular promotional activities. coming off the bora bora trip, a little relay race was next to nothing in terms of effort.
your group’s event was the last of the day, which left you and nayoung wandering around the goyang gymnasium for the meantime. you were texting jungkook to see if he was also free, when nayoung was called over by some individuals.
it was in a tent area away from the view of the spectators and cameras, which you were grateful for at an event where fans watched idols like hawks.
“nayoung! and nova!”
exo’s leader was known in the community to be charming and well-spoken, which didn’t surprise you when you found yourself struck immediately. you’d seen him around and of course watched him on television and online, but you could now see up close just how different the aura of a top boy group was. beside him was his fellow group members and participants for the archery event later that day, who were sehun and chanyeol.
“y/n, this is junmyeon and sehun and chanyeol,” nayoung introduced, beaming. it seemed like her rise in popularity meant that she had begun rubbing elbows with a-list idols like exo.
you mirrored her smile. “nice to meet you all. y/n is fine, just call me that,” you insisted, as the three of you exchanged bows.
unlike your fellow group members, you didn’t find yourself to be much of a social butterfly. you hung out with them and your boyfriend - occasionally your boyfriend’s friends. yet, somehow, others knew you. sehun asked if you were doing archery again this year, which you weren’t. junmyeon complimented your group’s last release. chanyeol mentioned running into miseul at the airport the other day.
as the pleasantries were made, the floor rumbled with the roar of fans across the stands. in the middle of the arena, the rhythmic gymnastics event was set to begin and all eyes were trained on the competition. that is, all eyes except junmyeon’s, whose own eyes remained fixated on you. it was a foreign sensation to feel your heart leap.
“excited for the day ahead?” strained chanyeol, struggling to be heard over the mcs talking.
nayoung replied, “yeah! i think our group has a good shot at the relay event!”
that was false, since you knew sooah was prone to tripping and falling, but you kept that to yourself with a muffled snicker.
“it’s definitely going to be a long day. . .” sehun said, yawning.
nayoung blew some hair out of her face. “at least it’s only one day of filmng this year.”
you enjoyed participating in isac each year, as it was mostly fun and games, but it was stressful knowing that cameras were constantly on you. each day of filming felt like the equivalent of a week when you anticipated random fancams of you on the internet the next day, probably doing mundane things like saying hi to a member of exid.
junmyeon spoke, “it’s going to be a long day, but there’s a thing happening at kc lounge tonight after filming and a bunch of our team is going to be there. chanyeol reserved a whole section for us - you should come.” it took you a second to realize he was now boldly holding out his phone.
although the words were meant to address both you and nayoung, he was directly facing you and only looked at you when he asked. you were caught off guard, having trouble finding the words to respond. junmyeon’s eyes were soft and his smile was inviting - you weren’t an idiot. you knew when an invitation was beyond friendly. even nayoung was side-eying you, following the inquiry.
“uhm - “
“i’d love to see you there.” it was hard to miss the once over he gave you, as his boys let out a low whistle at his suaveness. you couldn't help but notice the pink tint spreading across your cheeks.
the attention felt nice. you’d never been approached so boldly by a senior idol before. and he was hot. you didn’t know what to say, except that you were lingering in this conversation for way too long than acceptable.
thankfully, the vibration of your own phone interrupted whatever sentence you were to form next. with a glance at the screen, the picture of you and jungkook stared back at you and you were left dumbfounded. why was he calling you in the middle of a live event?
you said, “sorry, i think i’m being called.”
nayoung nudged you, prompting you to turn around and see that jungkook was staring directly at you from a few tents away. his expression was stone-cold and eyes burned in your direction. realizing what it looked like to him with junmyeon basically asking for your number, you groaned.
“you think it’s safe for me to walk over there?” you muttered into nayoung’s ear, ignoring the curious stares of the three exo members in front of you. junmyeon had now slowly retracted his phone away, now also noticing jungkook looking your way.
nayoung looked around. “maybe if you walk behind the tents, up against the wall,” she suggested, not missing jungkook either.
it wasn’t too bad of timing either, since the competition was mid-event and most individuals were preoccupied with that. you wouldn’t have approached him in public otherwise.
junmyeon seemed to understand what was going on and he only offered a small smile. “well, let me know. we’re stuck here all day, anyway,” he chuckled.
you thanked him and excused yourself, following nayoung’s direction to discreetly make your way over to jungkook’s tent.
other than him, a few members of bts lingered around the tent, presumably warming up for their event later on in the day. well, that’s what you thought they were doing before, as they were now looking towards you and jungkook, probably witnessing the same interaction as your boyfriend. jungkook’s arms were folded across his chest when you approached and you were already not in the mood.
“meet me in that hall,” you said as quickly and loudly as you could, not wanting an audience.
you turned around without waiting for an answer and jungkook waited several beats before trailing behind, just in case. the two of you found yourselves in the tunnel leading into the main stadium area, which was thankfully empty.
you were surprised that jungkook’s fuse was triggered, as you two just shared a nice dinner date the night before with no issues. however, the more you thought about it, his jealousy issues were rising recently - from one wrong stare at a party by a monsta x member the other night to being asked out by a music producer that worked with s.irens. each interaction was met with rage.
“are you alright?” you questioned, once you were out of earshot and eyesight from anyone.
“were they being weird to you?” jungkook instantly replied, jaw clenched.
you furrowed your eyebrows. “what? no,” you said. “they were just being friendly - “
“you should stay away from exo, i wouldn’t trust a lot of those guys.”
“isn’t taehyung friends with some of them?” you dryly shot back, but he ignored your sentiment and continued ranting about how male idols weren’t to be trusted.
obviously, you and him both knew what he was actually annoyed about. you stood your ground, as you knew you didn’t do anything wrong. it was a harmless interaction and you didn’t expect the entire idol community to know that you and jungkook were dating - well, actually, you kind of did and it was a little bit weird to get the invite in such a flirtatious way, but you were not going to take part. it was shut down immediately, but here you were.
after another minute of jungkook going on about the interaction, you interrupted him by abruptly placing a kiss on his cheek. he froze.
“stop it. i’m fine. he was just being nice,” you sighed, looking around to make sure nobody was hiding in the shadows. “now, can we go back to our jobs, jungkook?”
though your boyfriend was normally quite relentless about these things, your words did snap him back to the reality in which you were putting your very careers at risk to even have this hushed conversations in the shadows. isac was all fun and games, but you were on the clock with cameras in every corner possible. your slight touch of affection seemed to also help, as jungkook visibly eased when you kissed him on the cheek.
he adjusted his sweatshirt and sighed. “alright. i’m sorry.”
and that was the end of that conversation, but another faded memory lost in the chaos of 2017.
TOP HEADLINE TODAY: the 2017 bts live trilogy episode III (final chapter): the wings tour to commence next week
the bland eggshell walls of the bighit entertainment headquarters didn’t faze you. at the very beginning, it was unsettling just how hollow the corridors and nooks appeared to be, as if the surroundings belonged in a prison. you’d been in and out of the hallways over the past years, albeit often for very few reasons that were pleasant. though it was a huge maze, you memorized the path on floor seventeen.
upon hearing the loud ding and the metal doors sliding open with ease, you stepped onto the said floor with nothing less than pure anger bubbling in your veins. you clearly made your way up here — through traffic and past the security at the front desk who always mistook you for a crazed fan — with a purpose. you weren’t going to rest until you gave jeon jungkook a piece of your mind. releasing a long sigh, the employees who took a glance up and saw the infuriated expression on your face didn’t even bother stopping you. this had become routine.
the distinct voices of his group members, combined with one of the group’s tracks amplified through speakers and footsteps squeaking on the hardwood floors in immaculate unison, were enough to tell you that he was here.
“jeon jungkook.”
the chorus to ‘spring day’ came to a sudden halt. hoseok was the first person to take notice of you and stopped dancing when you appeared at the doorway. the others noticed fast and when jungkook finally looked up, someone had already stopped the music.
the look shared by his group mates seemed to read that they knew exactly what he was in trouble for. the prompt end of the music seemed to indicate so. a scared expression flashed on jungkook’s face upon reading your own stone-cold one.
last time this happened was when you found a pack of cigarettes in one of your boyfriend’s jackets, after he swore up and down to you that he was quitting nicotine. another time was because of him forgetting that you had a date that night. today, the rage running through your veins was due to something new.
jungkook visibly winced every time you said his full name aloud and here, he nearly shuddered at the sound. his head hung low, like a puppy. he knew what he did wrong this time.
“i’ll be right back,” you heard him mutter to namjoon who could only nod empathetically, arms folded across his chest as he observed the scene.
for jungkook’s sake, the group broke out into forced conversation to distract from the two of you. seokjin pretended to ask hoseok for help with the choreography and taehyung wanted to suddenly show the rest of the group a video on his phone. meanwhile, the youngest of the group wordlessly followed you out into the hallway.
“where were you last night?”
the question was immediate, not even waiting for jungkook to shut the door behind him. he sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
jungkook asked, “did you really have to come all the way here to have this conversation with me?” exasperation laced his words like a bow, but you were unfazed.
“well, clearly i don’t know when and where you’re busy,” you shot back, “so i had no choice but to come here.”
he opened his mouth to speak again, but you cut him off by raising your phone to eye-level. on the screen was the private instagram of cha eunwoo, who posted several slides of content of cheonsa lounge in gangnam. the very first picture was him and jungkook, clutching a shot glass of dark liquor in one hand and a vape in another. upon scanning the screen, where you proceeded to move through the instagram post - one picture of jungkook posing with eunwoo and the bottle girls from the club and the next being jungkook holding a bottle of champagne - silence filled the air.
jungkook’s shoulders drop in defeat. “i’m sorry, it was a last minute thing - “
“how last minute?! i called you at ten last night, asking if we could have a movie night in,” you cut him off, “and you said you were feeling sick! you don’t look so sick in these photos, huh?”
“i was feeling sick, i swear!” he exclaimed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “the boys called me an hour after that and guilt-tripped me into coming - “
“oh, please.”
jungkook huffed. “i’m telling the truth!””
if you were being honest with yourself, it wasn’t a far-fetched idea that jungkook’s boys did, in fact, drag him out to the club the night before. regardless of that, you were more upset with the fact that he declined you, but said yes to his friends.
“is a night in with me too boring for you now?” you questioned, jaw clenched. “if you were going out, you could have at least asked me to come!”
“you don’t have to come out every time with me, y/n, i need time with my friends,” he replied and sighed once more.
this made you even more mad. “when did i say you can’t have time with your friends?!” you didn’t like the fact that jungkook was making you out to be such a control freak.
jungkook groaned. “i didn’t say that!”
nothing had been the same since the bora bora trip earlier that year. sure, you and jungkook fought like any other couple, but it was never this bad and this frequent. it was as if the fight in the hotel was the first domino to a cascade of falls. coupled with your increasingly exhausting schedules and other factors affecting your relationship, such as your career-driven mindset that was prioritized over everything and bts’ rise to international fame, it was only natural that you and jungkook would only drift farther apart.
yet, neither of you were ready to walk away. as you and jungkook continued your back and forth for several more minutes to come in the darkened hallway of bighit entertainment, you could hear the opening notes to spring day once more - his fellow members presumably giving up on waiting for him to return before resuming practice.
i miss you, was the opening line to spring day and it physically hurt your heart to listen to, as jungkook stood just a few feet away from you and still seemed so far away. the two of you gave each other the silent treatment for the next week after.
TOP HEADLINE TODAY: s.irens fans grow restless as the group's comeback is pushed once again, allegedly to accomodate main dancer go nayoung's filming schedule for mbc's 'far away' drama
for once, you and jungkook were not getting hazy heads amidst the lights of a nightclub or a packed party, but a charity ball. held at the spacious estate of a member of the family behind hyundai, it was a sight to behold and made jungkook forget that he was in the middle of seoul. he found himself in the back gardens, underneath a marble gazebo that overlooked the lush flowers and twinkling lights of the area. they shone like stars, string lights that hung all around the gardens, and jungkook wished he could share this sight with you.
things were fuzzy with you, but jungkook held out hope that you would be able to pick up the pieces and fix things soon. after a string of fights the past few months, you had finally reached your wits’ end. it was an imploding, inevitable time bomb that was going to set off sooner rather than later. you and jungkook were beginning to butt heads more than not and one random thursday night, it was d-day.
there weren’t too many places in the city that would be safe for even just a normal stroll with your boyfriend, which was an unfortunate truth that jungkook had to swallow for years on end. more than anything in the world, he wanted to flaunt you to the whole world to show everyone just how lucky he was. he was so in love with you and that was never going to change.
from the moment he met you, he was smitten with your beauty and the nail in the coffin was your addicting personality that he was so naturally in sync with. to have someone so incredibly bewitching as his best friend, all jungkook ever wanted to do was scream to the world that you were his girlfriend.
instead, your date nights since the turn of your early twenties consisted of outings like secluded nature walks, friends’ homes, long drives, and if you were careful, the corner store at night. maybe that was why jungkook loved enjoying the seoul nightlife with you - it was a safe space where you could be with each other and with each other, the most important thing other than pounding music and letting alcohol wash away your worries.
your last date was no different, as jungkook suggested to take a walk along the han river. you had no qualms about the suggestion - though, evaluating the place as a date wasn’t the catalyst to your agreement. you knew that there was a conversation to be had and you could have done in anywhere at that point. it’d been over two weeks since you last saw each other, as missed opportunities sipped from your fingers to sit jungkook down and have a talk about your relationship with him.
jungkook saw you from a mile away - it was hard not to when you were literally wearing one of his hoodies. even though it’d felt like forever since the dna promotions began taking over his life and you were off filming a drama, he could always spot you in a crowded room in just seconds. you were waiting by the water, looking off into the seoul night skyline. a black baseball cap hid most of your face and you were smoking a cigarette - a habit that you eventually picked up from jungkook, despite initially chewing him out for the unhealthy habit. you eventually decided that you were also too overworked to not have a vice.
on the other hand, jungkook had been cold turkey for a whole month. he’d grown disappointed of himself for giving in so often on ruining his health, especially as a singer. a frown tugged at his lips when he approached you, just as you were finishing up.
your eyes always brightened when you saw jungkook, but tonight, you saw something in his own that prevented it. offering a small smile, you walked closer up without a hint of a light in your eyes.
“hi kookie,” you whispered and pulled him into a tight embrace. jungkook always loved your scent - a strong cinnamon and vanilla smell that warmed his heart, even on breezy autumn nights like this one.
his face was in your hair, holding you just as tight, when he realized something. something odd.
jungkook stepped half a foot apart when the hug concluded, examining your features. “there’s something wrong, isn’t there?” he asked, as the anxiety came to settle in after you chose to hug him instead of kiss kim.
your lips pressed into a thin line and he knew. you insisted that you two hold hands during this walk, which he wanted to refuse, but eventually decided to remain quiet about it. hands clasped, you two began to stroll south of the river.
for a bit, you and jungkook bantered about how you stole his hoodie without him even realizing it. then, an uncomfortable silenced emerged, as you both could only listen to the light stream of the han and the passing cars nearby.
it was jungkook that said something first.
you let him speak freely because on any other day, it would be a battle marked by avoidance and stonewalling. jungkook had suddenly come to a stop in the middle of the path, after the silence became too grand for him. he reached his limit, too.
“we should take a break.”
things had been getting weird for a while now between the two of you. you were always fighting and when you weren't fighting, it was when jungkook was overseas, away on the wings tour.
that’s when your heart began racing. “a break? you want to separate?”
“we obviously can’t be together. this isn’t working out. we clash too much and we’re always screaming at each other and we’re risking our jobs and - fuck, i’m sorry.”
the rant was cut short when jungkook, after pacing back and forth as he spiralled with each word, paused in his tracks at the sight of tears streaming abundantly down your cheeks. he stopped and immediately felt the ball of anxiety at the bottom of his stomach transfigure into a heavy dread accentuated by guilt, weighing heavy on the inside. his chest began hurting and apologies fell from his lips, as he took you right back into his arms.
“i love you, i know it’s been hard, but we can’t break up,” you hiccuped in between each short breath, barely audible when your crying face was pressed up against jungkook’s chest. “do-do you really feel that way?”
jungkook rapidly shook his head, not even taking time to think about it. “no, i’m sorry, i didn’t mean it. i’m sorry!” he cooed, rocking you back and forth.
after a moment of just crying from the two of you, you were finally able to catch your breath and rubbed jungkook’s back, hoping it would help him catch his. his breathing eventually slowed back to normal.
“but, i think you’re right. . .” your voice suddenly emerged, barely above a whisper. “i don’t want to lose you. . .but we need space.”
“i’d do anything to save this relationship,” jungkook replied and the statement brought you an unknown feeling, spreading across your mind. “whatever you think is best. i can’t lose my best friend - let’s take some time and come back stronger.”
and that was the agreement. it had been just about a month since it happened and there was no progress since. your and jungkook’s schedules were busier than ever and it was only a coincidence that you both ended up at the same charity ball.
for the first time in a long time, seeing you felt like remnants of a far away memory - shattered glass pieces of your relationship dancing in the air that, if jungkook tried hard enough, could be grasped at and remembered. your hair was now blonde and made longer with extensions, brushing just above your tailbone. you wore a periwinkle evening dress, soft satin mirroring the chandeliers on the high ceilings and fanned out into a flattering mermaid tail shape. jungkook hadn’t seen you with such makeup before, as you wore a cherry red lip and a sharp cateye. you looked different. . .good, but different.
jungkook saw you in the foyer, mingling with some chaebols and looking bored. jungkook noticed that you came with sooah, presumably to represent s.irens or your company as a whole, but neither of you so much as looked at each other. jungkook grew worried that you were slowly isolating yourself from your friends. he was also worried that your bored eyes were instead tired eyes from such a hectic schedule.
there wasn’t any way that jungkook was going to get your attention in that moment, so he instead carried on with his night as normal. he greeted friends, looked for opportunities to network, and helped himself to the fine wine. after an hour, he wandered outside to get some fresh air. then, he looked out at the beauty of the gardens and thought of you, as he strolled down the cobblestone path with a glass of red in one hand.
he wasn’t sure how long he’d been pondering for under the gazebo, until he saw the time of his watch and realized that it was probably time for dinner to be served. jungkook sighed, stepping out of the gazebo to make his way back inside the manor, sneaking one more look at the calming moon and hoping to run into you at the party.
jungkook’s wishes were met sooner than expected, as he spotted you by a tucked away corner, smiling from ear to ear. he was taken aback to see the source of your giggling, being some guy he knew from the korean national football team. one of their best players, actually, as jungkook was quite a fan. he was one of the most popular athletes in the country, it was no surprise that he’d be brushing elbows with other a-listers at this charity ball. jungkook hand clenched into a fist, watching the two of you flirt away from everyone else.
throughout your years together, jungkook was always a bit of a possessive type. in the way you were far from perfect, he also understood his own flaws. i mean there was quite a lot, like anyone else - he was also bad at communicating his feelings, often shutting down, and cared a lot about appearances.
none of that mattered in this moment, as he began walking straight toward you.
in your defense, you genuinely believed that space meant that you were single. had you been the one to make a fuss about breaking up? yes, but. . .well, there was no but. it’d been years since you were able to prance around without the worries of a relationship and although you wanted jungkook back, it was admittedly freeing.
bae sejoon was the striker on the men’s national team and had been eying you since you walked into the estate. the two of you previously crossed paths at a lounge in gangnam a few months ago and now seeing that jungkook was not presently attached to your hip, he made the first move. it was hard to ignore - his coy smirk and athletic build that exuded masculinity. however, your only intentions were to simply ravel in the attention sejoon was willing to give to you.
as soon as you arrived to the event, sooah already left to go greet some of her model friends in the main dining room. she didn’t ask you to join - you’d been drifting apart since the beginning of the year and moving out of the dorns. meanwhile, you planned to politely mingle with other guests, given that you were technically here because of work - despite wanting nothing more but to lay low and keep to yourself.
“well, maybe we should go together. can’t believe you’ve never been to the best cafe in all of seoul.”
instead, you were batting your eyelashes at sejoon, who’d been going on about some french-style cafe that just opened up in the city. you didn’t think he was a particularly interesting guy, but he was cute. a cute distraction.
you said, “that sounds fun.”
except, sejoon didn’t know that you stopped drinking coffee two years ago. he didn’t know that you found little coffee shops pretentious and too hipster-y for your liking. you forced a smile.
jungkook always got you pastries straight from one particular bakery. he remembered your matcha order word for word. he made fun of coffee shops that tried too hard to be different with you. he. . . . he was now right in front of you?
you made it known to jungkook that you loved seeing him in all black. as the first kiss of autumn dawned upon seoul, he donned a long sleeve dress shirt and slacks. tailored and in the consistent shade of all black, the sight lit a fire in your stomach and you found yourself in a haze of how good he looked.
jungkook never hid how attracted he was to you, even after all these years of being together. he scanned your appearance from head to toe, licking his lips. it was as if there wasn’t a whole third person in your presence, as explicit images ran through both of your minds. it’d been so long since you saw each other and the tension in the air was like molasses.
“hi y/n,” jungkook greeted, not even looking sejoon’s way, until the other male cleared his throat. “am i interrupting something?” the glare jungkook sent sejoon was sharper than a blade.
sejoon rolled his eyes, already realizing his defeat. “yes, actually,” he replied.
your eyes remained trained on jungkook until that moment, where you had to physically shake it off.
“jungkook, you know sejoon,” you began reluctantly, noticing jungkook’s hard planted feet.
he only grunted in response, still not caring enough to say anything to sejoon and acknowledge him.
at this point, sejoon was over it. he looked at you and then at jungkook’s menacing figure, arms crossed and glare still fixed. it was as if you watched him calculating his odds during this conversation and decided there was no winning.
sejoon turned to you, a crease in between his eyebrows. “nice chatting with you,” he said and solemnly walked away.
you would have otherwise rolled your eyes at such a dramatic reaction if it weren’t for jungkook standing in front of you. everything about him was so mesmerizing, as the time away truly made the heart grow fonder. the smirk pressed against his lips showed that jungkook knew exactly what kind of effect he still had on you.
“i’ve missed you,” were the words that fell out of your mouth, almost instantly, and you wanted to kick yourself. how pathetic.
jungkook eyed you. “didn’t look like it just now,” he tried to be casual, but the sharpness in his voice was loud.
“still as jealous as ever, huh?”
your initial tactic was to play hard to get - even if you and jungkook had been together for years, it’d been so long since you could just flirt and tease him. it was a spark that’d been missing for quite some time now. a smile played mischievously on your lips.
truthfully, this was what jungkook needed. he was initially despondent upon your agreement to give each other space, sulking for several days until work got too busy to be dwelling on emotions. the time away and seeing you look at another man sparked something in him, too. his lids grew heavy.
he said, “so, this is what space means for you, huh?”
jungkook sounded as angry as he was hungry. it set him off, as his gaze lowered further and further down your body. on any day he would be ticked off, but his feelings of frustrations today instead felt warm and inviting. you froze when he stepped closer towards you, close enough that you could simply speak in secrets.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about,” was all that could come out of your mouth in a heavy breath, too mesmerized to make any further attempts at wit.
he was now just about nose to nose with you, but you couldn’t muster up the strength to meet his eyes.
“you’re nervous.”
“no, i’m not,” you said, edge in your voice.
lying right through your teeth wasn’t the best strategy when jungkook could see past it like glass. you were happy to flirt and dish it out, but being so close to jungkook so suddenly left you at a loss for words. you forgot where you were for a second and when you realized that the two of you were in public, your heart began beating like a butterfly’s wings. despite this, he was bold. he didn’t move an inch, willing to risk it all.
jungkook let out a low chuckle. “you won’t look me in the eye. you’re nervous, baby.”
“what do you want, jungkook?” you asked slowly.
his gaze trailed back to where sejoon walked off to. “what was all that about?” he said.
the answer was glaringly obvious to you, as jungkook innocently brushed a hair from your eyes and you resisted the urge to shudder at his touch. nothing in the world compared to this feeling.
“honestly?” you began, as identical smirks began to form on both of your faces. “nothing. nothing at all.”
that was all that needed to be said. jungkook, without tearing his eyes away from you, wordlessly took his phone out of his pocket and made a call. he licked his lips as he spoke and everything else in the world faded to grey. jungkook was a cascade of the colours of the rainbow, illuminating brighter and brighter like the sun until you were blinded from seeing anything else. he was a kaleidoscope that shone in front of you and you were emerging from a place with no light.
it took you a few moments to realize that jungkook was calling his driver. however, as far as he was concerned, the night wasn’t over - it was just getting started.
jungkook finally stepped away and you somehow felt so cold. “i’m going to leave out of the west wing doors. my car is there. leave out the east wing doors and walk around to meet me.” his directions were precise and somehow not commanding. tone soft and a gentle hand on the small of your back, it was the worst feeling of all.
familiarity. comfort. home.
all you could do was nod, your chest growing louder with excitement. both of your synergies were one and you both knew what idea came to mind. not much else needed to be said and there wasn’t a single part of you that could say no. his knowing smile was haunting.
after parting ways in opposite directions - as if a conversation didn’t even occur - you eventually ended up in the back of a limousine with jungkook.
time moved oddly in between those two moments, as the only thing you could think of was jungkook. it was an addiction no different than chips across a roulette layout or a cup of espresso at the same time everyday.
thankfully, the driver’s partition was already up when jungkook opened the door for you, because he immediately captured your lips before you could even sit down. like second nature, your fingers found themselves in the crown of his hair and his hand held your neck like a trophy. you both stumbled, now sat - at least he was. you were already straddling his lap. he tasted like red wine and you could have indulged for forever.
“mph, that’s what i fucking thought,” he mumbled against your lips and you took his as an opportunity to slide your tongue into his mouth.
his hands began hiking your previously eloquent gown up, enough that he could grip your thighs from underneath. your own hands found the buttons of his shirt, as the limousine began to speed off in what were probably going to be circles until jungkook told the driver to stop.
being in love was a vicious cycle that proved to be endless. this pattern would only continue from here on out. no matter how deep your passions for each other ran and no matter how addicting each others’ touches were, it only grew worse from here. more fights than lasted weeks to only be swept under the rug with a fuck and make up or a bottle of whiskey shared between you both. growing issues that were overlooked because that was your best friend.
your heart was no longer in it - it was trapped. all you could do was forget and forgive. all jungkook could do was beg and shower you with love. the night at the charity ball was one of many roots that eventually grew into deep seated resentment.

How to hide plot twists from both your readers and your characters in a way that is not frustrating or annoying.
So I was watching a book review for a book that I liked but both loved and hated some of the plot twists. Of course this got me thinking about plot twists and why they work for both readers and the characters that are falling for these plot twists.
Readers
The key is to control the information that your readers have. Your readers aren't going to consider an option unless (1) that twist is really common for your genre and that reader has read that genre a lot and will therefore be expecting it or (2) you have very obviously given them the specific information nessesary to unintentionally figure out the twist before the characters.
Why does this information stand out, you may be wondering. It is because there is nothing else going on to distract away from a piece of information that can seem meaningless with the right context.
Most of the time, if you're not writing a very specific plot line with a very specific genre, your reader isn't going to immediately know where the plot is going so they may not be looking out for the information relevant to a later plot twist, so as long as you justify an informational choice that explains a later plot twist in a way that covers a variety of basis, they're probably not going to pick up on the one piece you left out, aka what is going to make this twist fun.
This piece of information should be something small and unassuming. It can be magical, but if you're writing fantasy that magic has to be hidden really really well. I find that a plot twist works the best when the piece of information that is missing is something you wouldn't really think about, like the reason a prince was able to infiltrate a prison and hide his identity was because he had his cousin standing in for him and we don't know that this cousin existed and knew the limits of that world's magic (this is actually a plot twist that fooled me btw despite how obvious at sounds now).
A good plot twist that fools the reader relies on twisting the information that the reader has and therefore twisting how they think the story will go.
Midway sidenote: not every plot twist needs to exist to fool both the reader and the character, sometimes it is really fun to watch a character fail because of something inherent to that character.
Characters
Remember how I said sometimes it's really fun to watch a character fail. That only works sometimes.
It is more annoying to figure out a plot twist that is really obvious and then have the character miss it because the author said so.
So how does a writer pull this off?
Be intentional. Have an idea in mind of when you want the reader to figure it out and ask your beta readers when they figured out your plot twists to control that as much as you can.
Your character does not know which genre they're in, so you have to both get inside the character's head and take the reader along with you so they understand why this character is making these poor choices and missing the most obvious villain in the room.
Why would a character miss a plot twist?
They are distracted or delusional. Characters have goals and they may ignore their better judgments to achieve these goals based on their personality. Put more emphasis on your character's motives to hide information that may make plot twists more obvious. Also, your characters may use information about their world to explain their motives and this information may also be vital to understanding a later plot twist
The average person does not go around thinking everybody around them is out to get them especially if those people seem incapable of that through the pov character's ego or the other character's demeanor. If your character has known somebody for a really long time or knows a piece of information that is vital to the worldview they're probably not going to immediately discard it. Fun fact: in the real world, when people have their views disputed, even with very good evidence, it can make them more likely to hold on to that old belief.
Expectation of harm. Different characters have different experiences with shape how bad they think things can get. For example, if a character has never experienced something, they may not know what can lead to that thing. (FYI older characters are more likely to know more things so be careful with this one.)
The Twist
For a twist to work, it must make sense with both real world and in world knowledge as well as common sense, so keep this in mind as you plan.
Conclusion
This isn't comprehensive because good plot twists require a lot of information to make them work and that's makes them very specific. While I would love to explain why different plot twists work, part of them working is them fooling you and hindsight bias is kind of a thing.
Keep writing. If a plot twist just isn't working either scrap it or let it sit until you have the information to build reasons why it should work.

Introduction To Candle Magic
Ancient Craft & Occultism
___
By KB
Introduction
Welcome back witches in training! We've been covering a lot of ground bases lately, especially within the realms of spellwork. Today, we're going to take that a bit further by opening our horizons to the infinite world of Candle Magic! In this lesson, we're going to discuss basic color magic, the history of candles, and how to use candles in your craft. Let's get to it!
A Brief Candle History
The exact origin of the candle is quite a debate among historical scholars, but there is a large sum of evidence that suggests candles made of beeswax were used in Egypt and Crete as early as 3000 BCE. Other early candles were fashioned using tallow-soaked tapers manufactured from fibrous materials like rushes. Rushlights were one of the first types of enclosed light we are aware of, yet they were unlike candles as we know them today because they lacked a wick. The impoverished continued to utilize them for centuries because they were also inexpensive to produce.
It may come as no surprise that the Romans are credited with creating the first wicked candles by continuously dipping a roll of papyrus into tallow, a converted form of beef or mutton fat, while wrapping it around a length of twine. Candles were still used in the same manner, but they had superior quality and a longer lifespan than rushlights.
However, candle production was not only practiced by the Romans. Wicked candles were "invented" by numerous other ancient civilizations who also used local plant-based waxes. The eulachon fish, which is so oily that when dried, it would burn like a candle when you ignite one end, was used as a candle by tribes in Alaska and Canada. The Chinese used wrapped ricepaper as wicks. In India, wax was created from the fruit of the cinnamon tree.
Candles, in any form, were a significant component of religious rites throughout this time. The Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, was originally documented around 165 B.C. Constantine, the Roman emperor between 306 and 337 A.D., mandated the use of lamps during Easter celebrations. Indeed, from roughly the time of Constantine, lights have played a significant role in religious events and signify the purifying light of God.
Candle flames were seen by ancient peoples to reveal enigmatic things. One could experience an altered state of consciousness and see gods, spirits, or the future by gazing into a flame. In a magic ceremony for "dreaming true," or getting information from dreams, the late Egyptians of the third century B.C. utilized lamps and possibly candles. He retired to a pitch-black cave that faced south and sat there gazing into a flame till he saw a god. Then he went to sleep, hoping that the deity would show up in his dreams and provide him with the answers he was looking for.
The Roman Christian scholar Tertullian fiercely objected to the ancient Pagan practice of lighting candles and lights during religious ceremonies, calling it "the useless lighting of lamps at noon." Candles and lamps were used in Christian rites from the fourth century, but candles weren't put on church altars until the later Middle Ages, starting in the twelfth century. Consecrated holy candles are used in ceremonies for blessings, atonement for sins, and the exorcism of demons, all of which were instituted by the Catholic Church.
Using Candles In The Craft
Candles have long been used as versatile tools, but in witchcraft, they can also be used for divination, spirit sensing, casting spells, and a variety of other things. Let's jump right in.
Divination - Reading the wax and observing how the candle really burns are the two most popular techniques for candle divination. You must observe the candle's burning pattern, including its height, flickering, and the presence of many flames, in order to make a prediction based on how it burns. Two flames could indicate assistance from the afterlife in achieving your objective. Even the hues of the flame may give you a clue as to how well your efforts are going. However, there is no agreement on what these indications signify. While some practitioners hold that a candle that burns tall and strongly indicates that one's request will be granted, others draw attention to the fact that the wick's length and quality, as well as an air vent, can affect how the candle burns. Prioritize your intention over the candle's burning process. You can always read the wax once it hardens, or pour the wax directly into cold water for it to harden and then interpret the symbols, much like you would with bone throwing, or scrying. Personally, I also like to pay attention to the smoke and interpret the way the smoke from the candle flows in order to interpret surrounding energies.
Spirit Work - Fire scrying is the most common way to communicate with spirits, and as it's the only method with candles I have experience with, that's what I will be discussing here. I encourage you to do your own research into spirit communication outside of my suggestion, because I'm sure there are plenty other methods out there. Again, there is no base consensus in a means to interpretation, as spirits and practitioners alike have different ways of communication. Just like with any other scrying, its imperative to stay connected to your personal energy while connecting with surrounding energy to properly interpret the signals you are receiving. Connecting with deities is also possible using this method of Candle Magic.
Rituals/Spellwork - In rituals and spells, candles are used to increase vibrations, represent specific elements and other important objects or creatures, use symbolism, and seal items like letters or spell bottles. Even candle spells can be created simply lighting a candle with intention. It is very common to carve, dress, and anoint candles in aid for ritual and spellwork as well. Fire being the main force driving the work, of course.
Worship - Candles are often used as offerings for various deities. Symbolism, color, and dressings can all play a part of this as well. They are also used as a beacon for an entity to guide you through your working.
Candle Correspondences
When undertaking serious candle work, choosing the right candle colors is crucial. Each hue has a unique meaning and possesses unique abilities. It's crucial to pick colors that align with your aims while working with candles in spells or rituals. Please remember that this is a very basic list and that the things you will read in your personal correspondence are far more significant than anything you will read here.
White - Attraction, Purification, Protection, Balance, Clarity, Grounding, Healing, Hope, Innocence, Optimism, Peace, Truth, Willpower
White can take the place of any other color when not available. Just a bit of visualization is required.
Black - Acceptance, Afterlife, Banishing, Binding, Determination, Endings, Justice, Loss, Release, Break, Security, Grief, Negativity, Patience, Persistence, Rebirth, Strength, Self Control
Red - Assertiveness, Courage, Creativity, Energy, Desire, Loyalty, Motivation, Power, Survival, Change
Yellow - Action, Communication, Learning, Finances, Business, Intellect, Inspiration, Knowledge, Wisdom, Stimulation
Pink - Acceptance, Affection, Beauty, Compassion, Healing, Family, Harmony, Kindness, Longevity, Nurturing, Partnership, Prosperity
Green - Abundance, Agriculture, Beauty, Creativity, Family, Fertility, Healing, Luck, Environment, Nurturing
Purple - Authority, Enlightenment, Spirituality, Emotions, Imagination, Influence, Truth, Wisdom, Overcoming Fear
Orange - Adaptive, Ambition, Confidence, Courage, Discipline, Energy, Freedom, Justice, Positivity, Pleasure, Stimulation, Travel
Blue - Honesty, Truth, Trust, Dreams, Sleep, Mental, Wisdom, Leadership, Fertility, Marriage, Healing, Study
Brown - Endurance, Animals, Balance, Courage, Grounding, Stability, Protection
Silver - Awareness, Intuition, Money, Purification, Potential, Stability, Success, Celestial
Gold - Abundance, Ambition, Money, Happiness, Power, Influence, Solar energy
Even if you aren't aware of it, the type of candle and the type of wax it is made of may have an impact on your craft. It can all come down to functionality or magical implications.
Taper Candles
Taper candles are tall, thin candles with a tapered top; they are often placed in vintage, smaller candle jars and are more ornamental and symbolic. Shorter taper candles are typically used to seal objects with wax. They can, however, be utilized for any task.
Pillar Candles
There are many different types of pillar candles, but these are the ones I see used almost exclusively. They differ from being short and fat to being tall and slim. They can be utilized for a variety of purposes, but I've found that rituals are where they're most useful.
Votive Candles
Votive candles are little and barely taper more at the base. They are frequently placed in glass candle holders and are used as offerings to deities. Given that their modest, tapering size is what makes them votives, their sizes rarely fluctuate. But they do come in a variety of colors. They are often white.
Tealights
Tealights are tiny, thin, and short candles. You can use them to make offerings, perform spells and rituals, decorate, or even keep wax warmers warm. I frequently observe this kind of candle being used, largely because they are the least expensive candles available.
Now, let's go over some of the different wax types.
Beeswax
It used to be difficult and dangerous to obtain beeswax, which added to the candle's mystique and spiritual power. Beeswax is a natural substance that burns more slowly, making it a premium item among contemporary candle spiritual practitioners; yet, because of its price, it may not be the best choice. Beeswax candles are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and hues and can be rolled, poured, or dipped. Longer ancestral rituals that demand higher vibrations and purpose work best with these candles.
Soy
People who use earth magic sometimes like soy candles since they are natural. Although they tend to burn for a shorter period of time than beeswax candles, they keep fragrances quite well. When dressed, they can also be extremely fragile and challenging to mold or carve. The majority of soy candles are already housed in glass. They are most effective when utilized in ancestral rituals for healing and rebirth.
Paraffin
Since it's a byproduct of the petroleum industry, many people consider it to be less natural than the available alternatives. The fact that it releases chemicals like toluene into the air makes it a poor choice for poorly ventilated areas. Other than providing the foundation for candles, I haven't discovered any sources that discuss the magickal powers of paraffin itself. I found a few for petroleum jelly, which is frequently used as a foundation for herbal salves, but they mainly praised how simple it was to use as an ointment. Even our non-human ancestors may have used petroleum, according to some sources, which makes it a solid foundation for ancestor magic.

50 Plus Size Y/N Prompts
When I was looking for an inspiration for a Nanami x chubby Y/N fic I realised that crushing majority of prompts and ideas are related exclusively to hurt/comfort or are drenched in extremely low self-esteem and lack of confidence. So, decided to put together my own list, covering a variety of situations from mundane and domestic to sensual and sexual. I based the ideas on my own experience as a fat person, so I'm aware they won't fit everyone, but I hope those can give you inspiration to explore in your creative work ❤ Of course, prompts are left to individual interpretation!
cw: some prompts are more gendered than the other, some are suggestive or addressing a strictly sexual situation
Leaving hickeys on thick thighs.
Wearing bigger partner's clothes. Bonus: bigger partner is not the chubbier one—it's the chubbier partner who gets to wear bigger clothes
Loving tummy kisses.
Lovingly or teasingly tracing fat rolls and love handles.
Nuzzling into soft chest or tummy for comfort.
Thick thighs save naps because they make the best lap pillow.
Fat person being picked up and/or carried around, no hassle, no protests of being too heavy, just sheer joy. Bonus: it's one of those crazy strong characters so they literally pick Y/N as if they were a doll.
Them being a personal heavy breast holder with built-in enthusiastic massage option.
Back massages because we all know that big chest weights way too much.
Ticklish kisses in the jaw area because they find the double chin cute.
Adoring to feel Y/N's weight in their lap.
Plus size lingerie. Them buying it for Y/N or Y/N showing off in it.
The way Y/N's chest/ass/thighs/tummy bounces during intimate times. It drives them crazy. Bonus: they're being ridden and enjoying every second of it.
Being in absolute awe of Y/N's figure.
Hugs from behind that do not necessarily end up with a full arm wrap but that's okay, one possibly can't envelop their whole universe.
Pulling Y/N closer so they can feel their big ass better.
Work out or a sport activity that's not related to weight loss or diet. Just enjoying active time together.
Finding it difficult to sleep without Y/N because they miss the body they can embrace and/or the warmth it gives.
Stimming or teasingly playing with Y/N's softer parts.
Foodie dates. Testing new places, taking tons of photos for their food instagram, feeding each other cute desserts, stealing the best pieces—or contrary, leaving them for their partner.
Y/N loves to eat and their love adores it because they have someone to enjoy their cooking.
Both them and Y/N love to cook and eat. A friendly rivalry over feeding the other better.
Tons of photos of Y/N and selfies with them. Every moment has to be caught on their camera. Bonus: they are a celebrity or social media persona & they love to show off with Y/N's photos.
Daily affirmations, soft words and touch related to body type, all those compliments and smooth lines.
Reminding Y/N to eat because no, the "fat supply" won't make up for a good meal, they have to eat regularly.
Gender affirmation when the fat body type sometimes can make it difficult for Y/N.
The shared celebration of gender euphoria when Y/N finally finds a way to nicely flatten and shape the chest.
Choosing Y/N because they are fat. Them being into bigger people and actively choosing them over people with different body types.
Seeing Y/N naked for the first time and going absolutely crazy about it.
Tracing and kissing stretch marks.
Yoga pants effect. The curves just look so good in them.
Looking together for a good supporting bra.
Loving when Y/N is wearing a crop top.
Encouraging Y/N to wear more close-fit clothes Bonus: there is absolutely no perverted reason behind it ;)
Supporting Y/N through weight gain or weight loss.
Enjoying a beach date. Every body is a good beach body if it has a cute beach wear on!
Scratching/washing Y/N's back because sometimes it's just hard to reach that stubborn spot.
Muscular body type partner x fat Y/N. Big partners solidarity!
Discussing together a new tattoo idea. Choosing the best placing for it. Bonus: it's a tattoo composed to fit nicely with fat rolls or stretch marks.
Helping Y/N shave the back of their legs or any other hard to reach part of their body.
Insisting on keeping Y/N's thighs close to their head during oral sex.
Treating rash/burn caused by friction between thighs, bra or other piece of clothing.
Shibari or harness on a plus size body.
Picking up the self ironic negative talk and turning it into something positive
Being proud of Y/N, showing them off whenever there's an opportunity.
Y/N posing them for a photo, painting or a sculpture. Bonus: Y/N is their muse.
Warming hands between Y/N's thighs. Bonus: maybe their cheeks or ears feel cold too ;)
Them wearing Y/N's shirt for comfort. Bonus: it's not a typical over-sized comfort piece of clothing but a perfect fit. They still insist on wearing it.
Hand and bite marks on ass and hips. Bonus: loving aftercare.
Doodling/painting on Y/N's body: thighs, arms, ass… Bonus: it's a part of a spicy play.
Please, reblog and/or credit, when you use (but don't @ me!). The divider made by @/saradika.

BUILDING
/10:47 AM/
LIVING-ROOM/FRONT DOOR/KITCHEN/PLAYROOM
*It's late in the morning, but you can spot no one*
(giggles) [camera pans - Front Door] Two little boys enter the house. *Where did these kids came from?*
Both stops on their tracks, noticing a tent with a camera in it. *Frozen* They stare blankly at it and starts giggling moving closer to the camera. *Why hello!* [camera focuses on the kid wearing a dark green pajama set] *His name is Hajoon* "Let's go!" Hajoon pulls the younger one who's busy making funny faces in front of the camera. [freezes - the younger one’s funny face] *This must be Hanjae*
KITCHEN
(uh oh) *Looks like someone's stealing snacks*
[Pan - kitchen entrance] *Someone's coming* *Hurry boys* “Hurry up Hanjae! Dad will wake up soon!” Hanjae closes the drawer and hands the biscuit to the other. *These kids have no idea what's waiting for them* (screams) *What happened?* "It was Hanjae!" "It was Hajoon!” Both said in unison. [slow pan - kitchen entrance] Someone is already leaning against the counter, arms cross. *Who is it?* [Tilt and freezes] *It's Tomorrow X Together's Choi Beomgyu*
Beomgyu: Hi, my name is Beomgyu. I'm the father of 57-month-old twins: Choi Hajoon and Choi Hanjae. Nice to meet you! *Woah twins!* (amusement)
*Choi Beomgyu is a famous singer-songwriter. Aside from that he is also well know as the moodmaker of a KPOP group called TomorrowXTogether.* [pictures/videos of him performing with the members in concerts and shows] *He's also pretty well-known in the industry for being funny without trying* [videos of him in variety/reality shows]
"Why were the kids outside early in the morning?" Beomgyu: They had a sleepover at Soobin. It was his turn that weekend. "Is his house just near?" Beomgyu: The members decided to live in one village and we own a street here. So the houses are relatively side by side. Plus it's a corner street, so we don't worry much about running cars.
LIVING-ROOM
Kids ran and slams themselves in the sofa. *What are they up to now?* Beomgyu follows and sits on the floor, facing the twins. *Looks like dad is gonna scold someone* "How many times do we have to tell you to ask permission first?" Beomgyu asks the kids who's trying their very best to sit properly. "Dad, we're really hungry." Hajoon answers. Hanjae holds Hajoon’s little hands. [camera zooms at their hands] (Aww) "Right and you chose the ones covered in chocolate. Hand it over." The kids hand it over while pouting. "Next time ask, okay? Hajoon you should be looking out for Hanjae being the eldest. Now stop fussing and let's make breakfast. We dont want to wake mom up." Beomgyu.
The twins follow him and starts prepping the table. "I want noodles!" Hanjae. "I want steak!" Hajoon. Beomgyu looks back to see his twins giggling. *They’re very fond of their dad* "This is not a restoraunt." He exclaims as exaggerated as he can do, causing the twins to laugh. *So cute!*
KITCHEN /11:24 AM/ (door closes)
[zooms at the twins] Both of their heads turn towards the noise. "MOM!" *They're suddenly out of frame(laugh)* [camera pans to the newly arrived person] *Y/N looks so pretty in the morning* “Good morning.” Y/N goes to Beomgyu and gives him a kiss. (aww) "Mom! Me too!" Hajoon. *Someone's jealous* "Okay, okay." Y/N then kisses the twins’ cheeks. "Boys please settle down, we dont want to disturb the baby." Beomgyu. *Baby?* (Surprise)
Y/N: We've always wanted to have two kids: a girl and a boy. And we didn't expect to have twins during the first time. Beomgyu and I still wants a little girl, so we're trying.
[Freeze frame and zooms on Y/N's baby bump] *Currently, Y/N is 4-months-old pregnant* (amusement)
"Take a seat so we can eat." Beomgyu then places the food on the table. [zooms on the dishes] *Those look delicious*
"Aren't you known to not cook in the dorm?" Beomgyu: (laugh) Y/N's pregnancy this time made her have bad morning sickness that she needs to lie down for hours. Cooking is the least that I could do to lessen her load. *What a sweet and thoughtful husband*
/12:58 PM/
LIVING-ROOM
Beomgyu's lying in Y/N's lap while they watch the kids trying to enter the tent. "Yohan! Both of you and Yves will give the cameraman a hard time. Go to another tent." Y/N. *Yohan?* *Yves?*
Beomgyu: Those are the kids' English names. We try our best to make the kids speak both English and Korean as early as possible. Yohan is the eldest while Yves is the youngest.
"Are you sure you wont just stay at home during filming?" Beomgyu. "We don't want the kids to focus on me Beomi. It's your time to have fun without me. Plus mom's {beomgyu's} gonna accompany me while i'm not at home." "But I don't want to be away from you." *Dad sure is clingy* (laugh)
(door bell) (kids' scream)
The twins ran to the front door and Beomgyu follows through. [camera's trying to focus] *Who is it?*
"Uncle Yeonjun!" *Oh! It's Yeonjun* Yeonjun hugs the twins. "Let's go, the kids are already at the park." Yeonjun then looks Beomgyu from head to toe. "Yah! Why aren't you changed yet? Hurry up! Today's picnic." Beomgyu walks towards the bedroom, scratching his head, to change. While Yeonjun went to the living-room to make sure Beomgyu doesn't take so much time. *That still didn't change. They still bicker (laugh)* "Hey Junnie! Desserts in the fridge, sit down. I'll get it first." Y/N went to the kitchen to get the dessert. Beomgyu went out of the room right on time. He poses in front of Y/N hoping for compliments [camera pans from head to toe] (shalala) *Dad looks pretty* "Are you coming Y/N?" Yeonjun asks while side eyeing Beomgyu who isn't fazed by his pose. "Nope! Gonna savor the peace and quiet without my 3 kids." (shatters) Y/N then hands the apple pie to Beomgyu and pats his back. That remark made Yeonjun laugh and a pouty Beomgyu exits the house. *The kids surely do look like their dad: physical attributes and personality*
/1:23 PM/
PARK
[camera pans the whole area] *The park looks empty* (confuse) *Are they the only people in the park?* Beomgyu places the pie on the table and sits beside Taehyun.
The twins are already at the sandpit burying something. *What could it be?* [zooms at the mystery treasure] *It looks like someone's eyeglasses*
"Dad! Did you saw my eyeglasses?" (Uh oh) *flashback to the mystery treasure* "Jiyoon! The twins are at it again!" *New kids arrives* *Who are they?*
[camera tilts to the parents at the table] "This is what you call karma." Soobin comments and sips on his juice. Everyone at the table laughs at Soobin’s comment. “It’s your kid’s eyeglasses, you know?” Hueningkai. *Jiyoon is Soobin's daughter?* (excitement) [shows Jiyoon] *She does look like her dad* “Well, lucky for her to be friends with the twins.” Soobin. *He wants his kid to experience the same thing he’s experienced with Beomgyu (laugh)*
SANDPIT
An angry Jiyoon walks towards the twins with Minjun laughing beside her. *Looks like this is a normal occurrence* “My eyeglass.” Jiyoon places her little hand in front of the twins. [camera freezes at her hand] *Little angry hands* “Jiyoon. Don’t be angry.” Hanjae stands up and pats Jiyoon’s back. [flashback to Y/N patting Beomgyu's back] *This one looks like mom* *Jiyoon is now frowning* “We don’t remember where we buried it.” (Uh oh) Hajoon pats his hands on his pants. He suddenly raises his hand and gestures 3. *What could this mean?* “Minjun! Get the shovel!” Minjun rans to the parent’s table to get what was asked.
[camera follows a running Minjun] “Dad! We need the shovels!” Minjun excitedly told Yeonjun. *Oh! It's Yeonjun's son* *We should have known, he looks exactly like him* “Not again.” Despite that, Yeonjun still hands the shovel. *Parents aren’t even fazed*
[camera focuses on the sandpit] (crow) *Where do they even begin?* “This is why you should atleast put something to remind you where you hide things.” Jiyoon scolds Hajoon. “We really didn’t mean to lose it this time!” Hanjae peers hiding behind Hajoon. “That’s what you said last time though?” Mijun hands out the shovel.
/2:16 PM/
“FOUND IT!” (Excitement) *Hardwork pays off* [camera focuses at the kids] *Did they roll around the sandpit?* The kids are jumping off the excitement walking towards the table. “Took you guys long to find it this time.” Taehyun commented. “They buried 3 things in the sandpit today.” Jiyoon replied while trying to sit beside her dad. The twins follows and tries to sit beside Beomgyu. “Guess it’s more fun babysitting than having one who acts and looks like you huh?” Kai jokes that made everyone laugh.
Beomgyu: (sigh) The kids are really a blessing. It’s just that there’s two of them, so it’s times 2 the effort of getting someone’s attention.
[camera focuses at Hajoon and Hanjae] *Someone’s tired* “We should head back now, the twins are already on the verge of sleeping.” Beomgyu carries the twins in each of his arms. Everyone bids goodbye and heads home.

Ghost/Soap/Reader | Sex Pollen, Breeding kink
This fic was written for Kinktober 2024! Let me know what you think <3
Ghost/Soap/F!Reader | Sex Pollen, Breeding kink, strength kink, dacryphilia Rating: Explicit | WARNINGS: EXTREMELY DUBIOUS CONSENT Word Count: ~3400
The last thing you expected when you answered the knock on your office door was the sight of two uniformed soldiers, both broad enough to fill the entire doorway each, expressions grave. You ushered them inside your small, cluttered office tucked away in the biochemistry wing of the university building. Being the head of the pharmacology department did not come with a sprawling mahogany desk and glorious window views. You were lucky to have a desk and a window at all.
Still, you were the best in your field, and that had granted you tenure and funding to continue your research as well as a small team of graduate students and postdocs to boss around as you pleased.
One of the soldiers introduced himself as Captain Price, the other a corporal under his command. You cleared off space on your desk as the corporal opened a locked case and pulled out a laptop.
“Anything you are about to see is highly classified information,” the captain warned you. “Our intel pertains to ongoing operations to stop a dangerous organized terrorist group.”
You nodded along, but your focus was on the footage being played on the laptop. The drone shots and shaky handheld cameras, clips of lab workers handling samples while suited head to toe in protective equipment. There was footage of soldiers experiencing a variety of symptoms: aggression, paralysis, psychosis.
The corporal opened a file for you to scroll through. Pages and pages of reports.
“Biochemical weapons,” you murmured to yourself. “Inhalants?”
“Gas,” the captain confirmed. “Your security clearance is still in the system from your field work on that operation in Andorra. Our people are using your research as the blueprint.”
You were the leading expert on biochemical weaponry, much of your research was centered around synthesizing field antidotes. It had been a few years since you were last out in the field, taking samples from warzones and the sites of attacks.
“You need me out there?” You asked. But you already knew the answer. They wouldn’t be here in your office otherwise.
“You’ll be working with our top tactical operations team. The best men we’ve got. Whatever they’re making in these labs, we need to put a stop to it, and then we need to figure out how they’re doing it.”
You looked at the footage again - civilians this time - and felt your stomach turn at the sight.
“When’s the earliest we can leave?” You asked, closing the laptop to hide the horrifying images.
-
The body armor on your last field operation had been simple: a bullet proof vest with a mask and helmet. You had worn your civilian clothes and brought along everything else yourself.
“Alright, Dove, arms up,” the special forces sergeant, Soap, grinned as he dropped a heavy vest over your head. You dutifully raised your arms so he could fasten the tangle of buckles until you were secured.
“Thanks,” you glanced down at the overwhelming amount of gear that was now covering your front.
“You’ve got your radio,” he tapped the top left pocket, “Compass, shears, three mags of extra ammunition, scopes, batteries, and torch.” You watched him point out each item. “On your belt here you’ve got your pistol, knife, and canteen.”
Soap put his own gear on much faster than it had taken to kit you out. He carried even more equipment, but he somehow made it look easier.
You had been staying at the temporary base with Captain Price’s 141 task force for days now. Without access to quality lab equipment, you were working tirelessly to find answers about the biochemical weaponry using whatever was available. As impressive as your makeshift setup was, it wasn’t near precise or thorough enough to save lives.
It felt a little ridiculous. A researcher surrounded by a bunch of special forces giants. They were welcoming and friendly - except for the terrifying lieutenant with the skull mask, but you knew you were out of your depth surrounded by cases full of rifles and grenades. Sleeping on a cot and eating rations cooked off a gas burner.
Captain Price had done whatever he could to make you more comfortable. The encampment was a few secured buildings and several large tents. And while you were accustomed to the conditions after your previous field research, they had afforded you as much privacy as possible.
Underneath the teasing and jokes, Soap was kind and friendly. He’d nicknamed you their ‘peace dove’ on the first day, and you hadn’t been able to shake the moniker since.
Even Lieutenant Ghost had been considerate as you tried to keep up with the heavy military jargon and unfamiliar protocols. He slipped you candy bars that were definitely against regulations and sat with you after the countless briefings to explain all of the commands that had flown over your head rapid-fire. He was still scary.
The last military squadron you had worked alongside had mostly ignored you, frustrated with your inexperience and occasionally downright cruel. They hadn’t respected your expertise or your research despite your attempts to explain how vital it was to their safety.
There was none of that here.
After several days of monitoring intel and surveillance, Price had finally made the call to infiltrate the terrorist labs. The only way to stop these weapons would be to secure the materials themselves.
Soap and Ghost were assigned to clear out any hostiles, and your mission was to gather anything in the labs that would help to stop production of the weapons and synthesize antidotes.
It was difficult to keep up with them as they closed in on the lab. You had been instructed to hang back a ways while they engaged, but even then you were struggling to match their pace.
You had never known anyone who could make an assault rifle look small until these men. Like they were holding a toy. Despite their size, both the sergeant and the lieutenant were exceptionally fast even with all their gear.
As you approached the location of the terrorists’ labs, Ghost signaled for all of you to halt. He grabbed you by the shoulders and pressed you into a crouch inside a copse of brush where you would be able to keep cover.
“Stay here. We’ll engage the hostiles and bring you in as soon as the site is secure,” he ordered.
Both he and Soap immediately made to move in, but you managed to catch Soap by the hand. “Be careful,” you warned. “We have no clue what kind of shit they’re cooking up in there.”
“Don’t worry, Dove. We’ll do just fine,” Soap promised with a grin.
And then they were gone.
The silence that filled in after their retreating boot steps was excruciating. The sharp cracks of gunfire that rang out in short bursts were somehow even worse. You couldn’t radio in without risking the operation - the noise could give away their position - so you were left waiting until Ghost signaled the all clear. As the minutes dragged on since the last round of shots, you prayed you wouldn’t have to fall back on your contingency extraction: if you didn’t hear from either Soap or Ghost after two hours, you were to make your way to a designated pickup spot.
Your radio crackled.
“You there, Dovie?” Soap’s voice came through. He sounded uninjured.
“Yes, sir.”
“Good girl.” That was Ghost this time. “We’ve eliminated all hostiles. Give us ten more minutes to secure the site, and then I’ll send Soap to come get you.”
“Copy that.” An unbelievable amount of tension seemed to melt out of you at that, and you let out a heavy sigh.
Not even a minute later you heard a distant bang. Not gunfire. A small explosion.
“Lieutenant?” You immediately called over the radio. “What was that?”
“Fucking hell!” Soap shouted. “The lab was rigged!”
“Lieutenant?” You were already pushing to your feet, rushing out of the safety of your cover and towards the labs.
“We tripped something,” Ghost finally responded. “They had canisters set to burst if the lab was tampered with.”
“You mean you got dosed?” Your fingers were numb with fear as you fumbled with your radio. “Are you experiencing any symptoms? I’m on my way now!”
The radio was silent for a few moments, but you were sprinting as fast as you could toward the site. If you could get there quick enough, maybe you could find an antidote somewhere in the labs. They wouldn’t know what to look for, but if you could find out what was in those canisters, surely you could fix this.
“Wait, Dovie,” Soap’s voice was rough, breathy. “Stay where you are. Don’t come near here.”
“I’m the only chance you have at finding an antidote,” you shouted into the radio.
“Hold your position. Do not approach. That is an order,” Ghost snarled, but you were already at the entrance, flying through the path of carnage Soap and Ghost had left. The satellite images in the briefing had given you a rough idea of where you needed to go, and the trail of bodies confirmed you were on the right track.
As you came up on the entrance to the labs, someone tackled you into the wall, pinning you in place. You screamed, but a gloved hand covered your mouth.
“It’s just me,” Soap assured you. “But you shouldn’t have run in here without your weapon drawn. Shouldn’t have come in here at all.” He pulled his hand away so you could gulp down a breath.
“Whatever you were hit with, they might have an antidote. If I can get to it before it’s too late-“
Soap cut you off. “You’re worse than me at following orders.”
”Let me go.” You tried to squirm out of his hold.
Soap made a choked off sound in your ear. “I’m sorry,” he said. “Fuck, I’m sorry. It’s the gas. I swear. We didn’t know the lab was rigged.”
“What the hell is going on?”
“Jesus, Dove, you have to forgive me. Promise? I can’t fight it.”
“Whatever it is, you’ll be okay. Just let me go, Soap.”
He was pinning you in place with his entire body weight, panting against the back of your neck as he easily kept you still despite your attempts to break free.
Thankfully, you heard the sound of heavy boots approaching. That had to be Ghost.
He rounded the corner and you cried out. “Lieutenant! Please, sir!”
Ghost snarled when he saw you trapped beneath Soap. He crossed the room in three easy strides and ripped the sergeant off of you. Soap hit the floor with a groan, and you tried to back away.
Except the Ghost was closing in on you, knife drawn. He cornered you easily, and the fear had you freezing in place. You weren't a trained soldier. You weren't equipped to handle these kinds of situations.
You flinched as Ghost grabbed for you, squeezing your eyes shut and preparing for the worst, but there wasn't any pain - just the sound of tearing fabric and the sensation of your body armor falling away to a heap on the floor.
“Gotta get these off you,” he growled, crowding even closer against you. His voice wasn’t nearly as rough or as breathless as Soap’s. When you finally worked up the courage to open your eyes, Ghost was leant over you with his face in your neck taking deep inhales. Was he… smelling you?
They’d both been dosed. You had never seen symptoms like these before, but it wasn’t a typical toxin. Surely you could find an antidote if they just let you go.
And then Soap was back, pawing at the space between your bodies. “Please, Ghost,” he was begging, “feels like I’m about to die. Fuck. Need it so bad.”
Ghost pulled away from your neck, reached out to grab Soap by the jaw, holding him still. There was a moment of quiet save for both yours and Soap’s panicked breathing. “Alright, Johnny.” He finally assented. “You gotta go easy, you hear? Don’t wanna break her.”
You didn’t like the sound of that one bit, but struggling was absolutely useless when Ghost was holding a knife. You knew what he was capable of.
It was too quick for you to even register. Soap was fast. He snatched the knife from Ghost and cut your clothes away, taking you down to the ground with some sort of wrestling maneuver you were never going to escape from.
“I’m so sorry, Dove,” Soap was apologizing again. “Can’t fucking help it.”
He shoved his own gloves and gear away, fumbling to open his trousers before freeing his cock. He was achingly hard, and dripping. He was also fucking huge. His eyes fluttered shut in relief as he wrapped his hands around the length and gave a few lazy strokes, but you weren’t naive enough to believe that would be all it took.
“Please,” you begged, tears streaming down your cheeks.
“Don’t fuss,” Soap placed a finger over your lips to quiet you, then he shoved it inside your mouth. You weren’t sure if biting him would end well for you. He grabbed your legs by the knees, raising your hips until your pussy was on display for him. “That’s a good girl.” He spit on his fingertips and began rubbing at your entrance, as if that would be enough lube.
He pressed two fingers inside of you, but you were so terrified that it didn’t feel right at all. It hurt. You screamed, and suddenly Ghost was there.
“This is the only way to help,” he said, and you noticed he had a silver canister in his hands. “I promise this will make it easier.”
You didn’t have enough time to react before he crushed the canister with just his gloved hands. A deafening hiss drowned out the sounds of your own sobs and your vision went white as the contents of the canister filled the air. You couldn’t hold your breath at all, not when you were sobbing with gasps of pain. The gas settled over your skin, inside your mouth and nose. You instinctively swiped your tongue against your teeth and cheeks. It tasted powdery and sour.
“Give her a second, Johnny,” Ghost ordered.
You were almost glad they had cut your clothes away because your skin was suddenly too warm. Too clammy. Your mouth went from bitter and dry to watering with saliva in a matter of seconds. Every sensation felt sharper, and the pain disappeared. Soap was just as warm where you were pressed against him, and his fingers inside you were now drenched in slick wetness.
How were they even able to think like this? They’d been dealing with these symptoms for longer than you and somehow still had control of themselves. You had been exposed to the gas for less than a minute and all rational thought had left you.
“That’s a good girl,” Ghost’s voice reached you through the drunken haze and you whined. “Spread yourself nice and open on Johnny’s fingers.”
Oh. You were fucking your hips against Soaps’ hand. He was watching the sight with his pupils blown wide as he pressed a third finger inside of you. The stretch felt amazing, but it wasn’t enough.
“Please,” you begged. “More. Please.”
Soap curled his fingers inside you and you cried out. He held your hips still with his free hand so he could fuck you harder on his fingers. He knew exactly what he was doing, and he had you gushing over his wrist in a matter of seconds.
“Gonna fuck you now.” He settled between your thighs. All you could do was beg because his finger hadn’t been enough. “Gonna breed you full, alright, Dove?”
“Yes. Yes, please,” you panted.
You would never have been able to take his cock if Ghost hadn’t dosed you with the gas. Even after the rough fingerfucking you still cried out at the stretch. But it didn’t hurt this time. You loved the way he filled you, the sensation of him sinking deeper inside.
He was too impatient at this point. Had been holding himself back for too long. The moment his cock bottomed out inside you it was like his final thread of control snapped. You were long past him, having never once stood a chance after Ghost crushed that canister.
“Jesus, Dove, you’re so tight. Feel so good on my cock,” Soap was panting against your skin as he fucked you. You were much less coherent beneath him, just a stream of sobbing and begging. You understood what Soap had said earlier: you felt like you were going to die if they didn’t fuck you. If they didn’t ruin you on their cocks.
“I’m already close.”
You were surprised Soap had lasted this long, considering how quickly you had come on his fingers. It was definitely the toxins in your system, but you needed him to claim you. Needed to be bred full. You must have begged for it, because Soap was soothing you as he picked up the pace.
“You’re okay. I’m gonna give you what you need. Just take it like a good girl, right Dovie?”
He forced his cock as deep as he could when he came, rocking against your hips to make sure it would take. You could feel it, so hot and sticky inside you, dripping out around his cock as he rode out the aftershocks of his orgasm.
You barely had a moment to catch your breath before a huge shadow filled your vision. Ghost. He shoved Soap aside, taking in the sight of you beneath him.
“Johnny made a mess of you didn’t he?” A gloved hand trailed over your tear stained cheeks, through the string of drool hanging from your lips. He forced your thighs apart to see Soap’s come dripping out of your used pussy. “Look at you, pretty girl,” he teased.
“Please,” you whined. The strange panic was taking hold of you again. You were scared what would happen if Ghost didn’t fuck you. “Please, sir. I need it.”
“Jesus, fuck,” Ghost swore under his breath. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you. Should’ve known you wouldn’t be able to fight it off. Poor thing.”
He tossed his gloves aside, running warm, calloused hands over your sticky, sweaty skin. “I’m bigger than Johnny,” he warned. “But something tells me you’ll like that.”
All you could do was beg. How did Ghost have so much control? It was almost like he wasn’t affected at all.
He took mercy on you, dragging his cock against your pussy to slick the length of it before pressing inside. He was slower than Soap, more careful. And even under the effects of the gas, you needed it. Fuck. He was huge.
“You’re fucking noisy,” Ghost grumbled. And then there were two fingers pushing past your lips. You swirled your tongue around the digits to chase the salt and the sweat, and the relative quiet seemed to appease the lieutenant as he finally bottomed out inside you.
You had never been so full in your life, split open on the lieutenant’s cock like this. He groaned beneath the mask as he fucked you, rhythm faltering as you squeezed tight around his cock.
Even with his fingers in your mouth, you must have picked up your whining again because he leaned in to shush you. “Don’t worry, I’ll fill you up again. Breed you just like you need. We won’t let you go until you’re full of us.”
It should have sounded threatening, but all you could focus on was the promise that they would take care of you. That they would leave you dripping with their come.
The initial rush of the toxins had given way to a sort of timeless haze. You couldn’t focus on anything except the feeling of Ghost fucking you and his fingers in your mouth. It could have been hours. You just needed to be full.
“Here it comes, Little Dove,” Ghost warned you. “Better take every last drop.”
He pulled you so far onto his cock that a glance of pain managed to reach you in the haze, but it only left you craving more. You could feel his cock twitching inside you as he came, filling you even more than Soap had.
“Such a good girl.” He only pulled out after he was sure he had fucked his come into you as deep as possible. And when a few drops began to spill out, he swiped them up with the fingers he had just pulled from your mouth and forced them back inside your pussy again.
“Hey, LT,” Soap grinned where he was slowly stroking his cock. “Does this mean it’s my turn again?”

“You need to.”
“Need is a strong word, soldier; I need water, food, and sleep.” He states and points at the bunny costume you’re holding. “Now, this, I don’t need to do.”
“Come on, Lt., do it for the kids!” You beg.
He looks out the window at the funfair outside. Christmas, Easter, and Halloween festivities are held yearly at the local park, and the military base is expected to contribute somehow. Things like cooking and baking for example, or helping with the construction of the rides, and assisting with the general operations, were a few of the tasks you had to undertake. Apart from the famous egg hunt, the community has organized a variety of other activities this year, including egg and spoon races, potato sack races, and pony rides.
“Why don’t you put it on then if you care so much about the kids?”
“I’m on face-painting duty.”
“Why can’t I do the face-painting?” He asks, pointing at his black-painted, camouflaged eyes.
“We talked about this, Lt.,” you say and extend the costume to him, “you were the chosen one.”
The phrase ‘the chosen one’ was an exaggerated one but, in some ways, accurate. A few days before such events, the base held a raffle to determine who would perform as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. This year’s ‘lucky’ winner happened to be Ghost. You never did that for Halloween though, since there wasn’t an official ‘mascot’ apart from the pumpkins, and according to the Captain, “you were all monsters anyway.”
“I bet Soap planned all this,” he snaps, pointing to the fair outside, “I bet he rigged the raffle and wrote my name on every single ticket: Riley, Riley, Riley, Ri-”
He stops upon hearing your long sigh. “Soap would never do something like that,” you shake your head.
“Oh, yeah?” he asks, peering out the window again. “Where is he anyway?”
“He’s helping the kids at the shooting gallery,” you admit and quickly regret it.
“I’d be great at teaching kids how to aim!” he yells, raising both hands, “why does he get to do that?”
“You’d be the star of the show, Ghost!” you encourage him as you wiggle the suit. “The Easter Bunny!”
“I don’t want to be a star, soldier,” he snaps, shooing the costume away, “plus, I hate dressing up.”
“Um, Lt., sir?”
“Hm?”
“You’re wearing a mask with a skull on.” You murmur, raising your brows.
“That’s for a different reason, and you know it.” He stiffens and narrows his eyes at you.
You must come up with a solution quickly. There’s no way to persuade an grown ass man, especially a frightening one like Ghost, to dress up in a fluffy costume and cosplay as an imaginary character if he doesn’t want to.
“You can’t go outside with that cover of yours, especially on Easter,” you explain. “Now, this, on the other hand, comes with a full mask on...” You say and lift the bunny costume by the shoulders.
He groans and rolls his eyes. That’s his way of contemplating the idea.
You shrug and look at the costume. “I’d consider it a deal, to be honest.”
He looks at the costume, then back at you, takes the costume from your hands without saying a word, and goes to the toilet to get changed.
A short while later, he returns, this time in the form of a 6.5-foot-tall, fluffy, white bunny with pink ears. His hands—or rather, his paws—are hidden in the costume’s pockets, and he diverts his masked face away from you.
You swallow your laughter and nod vigorously in response.
“So, what do I do now?” he asks defensively.
“Just act like the Easter Bunny.”
His ears and whiskers wiggle as he turns to face you. “How does the Easter Bunny act, soldier?”
That’s an excellent question. See, the Easter Bunny is cheerful and quite energetic. Ghost, on the other hand... well, let’s just say he’s doing a pretty good job on Halloween at the House of Horrors.
“J-just wave at the kids, Lt.,” you shrug and hand him a basket full of Cadbury creme eggs, “and blow the occasional kiss.”
“Like this?” he asks naively and pats the mask’s buck teeth with his paw.
“Yes sir,” you reply, looking down at the floor to hide your smile, “exactly like this.”

9:36pm
“Goodnight, sweet boy.” Y/n whispered to her 4 year old son, kissing his forehead as he fell asleep in his thomas the choo-choo train bed.
“Night night, mama!” He giggled, pulling the covers up to his chin.
Y/n smiled at her boy before turning on the white noise machine and before leaving the room also turning on the fan, knowing how her song gets hot and sweaty during the night.
She closes the door to her sons room, making her way to her 6 year old daughters room, a bigger smile flashing on her face when she sees her daughter sitting up waiting for her.
Estrella smiled at her mom as Y/n walked into the room.
“Hey, lovey.” Y/n said in a soft tone.
“Hi, mommy.” Ella smiled cheekly, getting under the covers.
“Goodnight, my girl.” Y/n whispered, the same way she had done to her son prior to this, leaning down and kissing her forehead.
Y/n then turned on the fan for her daughter too, her fan was a little older so it rattled with noise, making enough noise to help Ella fall asleep.
“Mommy?” Estrella called out as the room went dark, a little butterfly nightlight that sat on the small girls nightstand being the only thing lighting up the room, but enough to see.
“Yes, honey?” Y/n turned around.
“Can you read me the dinosaur book?” Estrella asked, “Please?” She dragged out the E at the end.
“Okay, sweetheart.” Y/n sighed, giving into her daughter.
Quick Disclaimer pt.2: This book is based on the runaway dinosaur from the flash, i have changed some words and some details from the book from the show, this book is not made my me, only some changes were made‼️enjoy
Y/n walked over to the 6 year olds shelf with a variety of items on it, picking out the hard covered book that had a dinosaur on the cover, ‘The runaway dinosaur.’
(Italics is the dialogue in the book.)
Estrella clapped her hands together in excitement as Y/n came over and sat on the bed with the girl. Ella immediately snuggling into her mothers side as Y/n started to read.
“The runaway dinosaur..” Y/n started.
There was silence as Y/n flipped to the first page of the picture book.
“Once there was a little dinosaur called a Maiasaur, who lived with her mother.” Y/n read, although Ella has had this story read to her many times, she still pays close attention.
“One day, she told her mother, ‘I wish I were special like the other dinosaurs. If I were a T.Rex, I could chomp with my ferocious teeth!’” Y/n continued, Ella’s eyes focused on the pages as Y/n read.
“‘But if you were a T.Rex,’ said her mother, ‘how would you hug me with your tiny little arms?’” Y/n flipped another page.
“‘I wish I were an Apatosaurus,’ said the little dinosaur, ‘so with my long neck I could see above the treetops.’” Ella clung onto her mothers shirt.
“‘But if you were an Apatosaurus,’ said her mother, ‘how would you hear me in the treetops when I told you I love you?’” Y/n read, her eyes glancing to her daughter that was still wide awake.
Y/n took one deep breath, “‘What makes you so special, little Maiasaur?’ said her mother. ‘Is it your ferocious teeth or long neck or pointy beak?” Y/n shook her head.
“‘What makes you special is out of all the different dinosaurs in the big, wide world, you have the mother who is just right for you, and who will always love you…’” Y/n finished, closing the book.
Ella smiled as Y/n set the book down on her nightstand.
Y/n sighed and started to get up, “Alright-”
“Mommy?” Ella unintentionally interrupted.
“Mhm?” Y/n hummed as she started to tuck the blankets in around her daughter.
“I think the dinosaur book is like us, because you will always love me, and..” Ella trailed off.
Y/n stopped tucking in the blankets to look at her daughter, “And what, baby?” Y/n asked softly.
“And there’s no daddy dinosaur, kind of like right now.” Ella said in a quiet tone.
“Estrella, baby, daddy’s not gone.” Y/n let out a laugh in disbelief.
“But he’s not here.” Ella shrugged, turning on her side.
Y/n stopped for a moment, taking in her daughters words, is that really what she thinks? has matt really not been here that ella feels like she doesn’t have a father? why-
Y/n’s thoughts get interrupted when Ella speaks again, “Well except there’s no Mailo in the book, so it’s kind of different.” The 6 year old points out.
Y/n nods, sniffling for a moment before blinking the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes away. “Time for bed, yeah?”
Estrella nodded, getting comfy one last time. “Night, mommy.”
Y/n forced a smile on her face, “Goodnight, Ella.” She whispered, brushing the hair out of Ella’s face before slowly making her way out of the room.
Y/n walked into her and Matt’s shared room, but now that she thinks about it, it really just feels like hers.
Her eyes glance to the big, empty, bed, the bed looking like it will swallow her whole when she climbs in.
Y/n shakes her head, getting rid of her thoughts as she changes her clothes and into pajamas.
She slowly got into bed, dreading the feeling of the cold sheets without her husband next to her.
And then she slowly, softly, let out a sob.
Tears overwhelmed her, she thought it would stop but it didn’t. The tears kept flowing down her cheeks as she cried into her comforter.
Keeping quiet as she’s afraid to wake her children. The tears soaking her pillow as her head rested on it.
Thoughts ran through her head at rapid speeds but she couldn’t focus on one, the tears that blurred her vision also blurred her line of thought.
The racks of her body and the sobs that escaped her lips went on for about 15 minutes.
Her cries were loud enough for her not to hear the front door open, for her not to hear footsteps come up the stairs, for her not even to hear her bedroom door opening and closing.
Matt made his way in, his calm demeanor he had once plastered on his face now changed to a worried expression, running over to his wife and completely covering her body with his, bringing her to cry in his chest.
She struggled in his grip, not wanting to be held by the person that made her feel like this, the person that was supposed to be a husband to her, the person she vowed her life too, made her feel like this.
She sobbed harder, her tears running through his shirt, making dark wet spots on the white cloth.
“Y/n, holy shit, please- s-stop, Y/n, talk to me.” Matt stuttered out, his wife gripping onto him like he’d disappear once again if she had let go.
Y/n shook her head, knowing what she wants to say but not being able to, her cries were in control, her overthinking was in control, everything else but herself was in control, even Matt.
Matt held her close, repeatedly whispering sweet nothings into her ear as he stroked her hair, a gesture he remembered she loved having done to her.
Her sobs soon turned into, heavy breathing and a cry every so often, her heavy breathing then turned into sniffles, and her sniffles soon turned into silence.
The air was stuck. Every breath she took felt like it was swallowing her.
“Y-you good? What happened?” Matt asked, not wanting to make her break again but also wanting to know what caused her to fall apart.
Y/n took a deep breath and sat up, “I just-” She cut herself off, taking a deep breath as she sat against the headboard next to Matt.
Matt shook his head, “Don’t say it was nothing, Y/n. It obviously wasn’t nothing. You can always-”
“It was you!” She yelled loudly, immediately clearing her throat and lowering her voice into a whisper shout. “It was you.”
Matt went to speak but Y/n beat him to it, “You’re not here anymore, Matt! You leave at seven in the morning and don’t come back ‘till twelve or so. Your children barely see you anymore,” Y/n points to herself, “I barely see you anymore.”
Matt sits there for a moment, “I-i don’t know what to say..” His voice was quiet and small.
Y/n sighed, her sadness was gone, all she felt was anger. “Well your daughter did! She told me how it feels like you’re not here anymore when we were reading ‘The runaway dinosaur.’ And you know what? I realized she was right.” Y/n said.
“I g-got her that book.” Matt said, sadness now filling his body like it had done to Y/n.
“Yeah and that’s probably the best thing you’ve done for a father. I mean, she starred in a play last week! Did you know that?” Y/n asked him.
Matts eyes widened slightly before he shook his head.
“Yeah. She told you, but you were on the phone and said you were running late for work.” Y/n scoffed. “And Mailo made a scene in pre-school when someone asked where his dad was because they never see him drop him off.” Y/n explained. “And i thought that was just Mailo getting upset, but no. He was upset because he probably feels like he doesn’t have a father either. Just like Ella.” Y/n ranted.
“I-i’m sorry. Please, forgive me. I’m so sorry. I don’t mean too- i just, my brothers, and fans, i just- i don’t know i just try to handle it but it seems like im making it worse.” Matt pleaded, tears brimming his eyes as his voice cracks.
Y/n sighed and shook her head. “I just need you, Matt. I miss you. I feel like i don’t have a husband, and my kids don’t have a father, you’re here but you’re not. And i need you to be here, i need you.” Y/n finished.
Matt nodded, grabbing her face in his hands, “I will be here, i promise. Let me make it up to you. Okay? Please.” He begged.
Y/n looked her husband in the eyes and nodded, “Okay..” She whispered.
—————————
8:44am (2 weeks later)
Y/n yawned as she woke up her eyes widening as she checked the time, looking to her left and seeing no one there. She sighed as she should of expected it, it has been good for the last two weeks, but now, as y/n thinks, everything’s back to how it was without Matt.
She rushed out of bed, quickly throwing some jeans and a sweatshirt on, throwing her hair into a bun before running out of her room and into Ella’s,
“Ella! baby! come-” She cut herself off as she looked at the empty made bed.
She scratches her head as she closed the door to Ella’s room, making her way to Mailo’s, opening the door to see his bed was also empty and made.
“What the hell?” She muttered to herself before hearing loud laughs from downstairs.
No way, she thought, starting to walk downstairs.
She walked downstairs and into the kitchen, music was playing from Matt’s phone as he had a kitchen towel slung over his shoulder, holding a wooden kitchen spoon as he had pancake batter smudged on his cheek.
Now taking a look, Y/n saw pancake batter scattered over the counters and some on the floor.
“Mommy!” Ella yelled, catching Y/n’s attention as she looked over, Ella and Mailo sat at the table, dressed with their hair done, eating pancakes with orange juice.
Ellas hair was in a slicked back pony tail and Mailo’s was combed nicely.
“Hi guys..” Y/n furrowed her brows. “What is going on?” Y/n walked closer to Matt as she pointed around the kitchen.
“I got them ready and made breakfast.” Matt shrugged, a smile on his face as he walked over to Y/n, kissing her lips slowly, but both pulling away once they hear complaints of disgust come from the children.
Matt laughs and rolls his eyes.
Y/n’s hand goes up to Matt’s cheek, swiping the pancake batter and putting it in his face. “And what’s this?” She laughs.
Matts eyes widened, “Yes, i’m so sorry, we got a little messy when we were making the pancakes. But i will clean everything up later..” Matt trails off as he glances at the clock.
“Speaking of, i should probably head out.” Matt mentions.
Y/n smile fades, “Where are you going?” She asked quietly.
“To drop the kids off, i’ll be back to clean everything up, promise.” He smiles, pulling her in one last time for a loving kiss.
Matt stares at her for a moment and lets out a sigh, “Okay, and get ready for a lunch date we have at 12:30.” He told her.
“A what?” Y/n laughed in disbelief.
“You heard me.” He laughed too, “Alright,” He clapped his hands together. “Let’s go, let’s go! All aboard the choo-choo train, don’t miss it!” Matt said as the kids giggled.
“Thomas!” Mailo yelled.
Matt nodded, “Well, let’s go so we don’t miss him!” Matt says in a duh tone as he walked past y/n one last time, kissing her cheeks and grabbing the kids backpacks.
“Bye mommy!”
“Bye mama!” Both Ella and Mailo yelled.
“Bye guys!” Y/n said before the door shut and the house went quiet.
Matt really changed.
He really was sorry.
—————————

The Writer's Guide to Mastering Dialogue
You've heard it a thousand times—show, don't tell. One of the most effective ways to do this in your writing is through dialogue. Dialogue helps bring your story and characters to life, propels the action forward, and engages readers. But crafting realistic, compelling dialogue is an art form that takes practice. Don't worry, Rin's got you covered. In this guide, you'll discover techniques for writing dialogue that sparkles. You'll learn how to make conversations sound natural, differentiate character voices, convey subtext and emotion, and use dialog for exposition. By the end, you'll be writing dialogue with confidence and watching your characters come to life on the page. So grab a cup of coffee or mocha (my favorite), settle in, and let's chat about the art of conversation.
Why Dialogue Matters in Your Novel
Dialogue is one of the most powerful tools in a writer's arsenal. It brings your story to life and creates realistic characters that readers can connect with. If you want to master the art of fiction writing, you need to know how to write compelling dialogue.
Dialogue reveals character and moves the story forward. Through dialogue, readers get a sense of your characters' personalities, backgrounds, and motivations. It's a chance to show, not tell, what your characters are like. Dialogue also propels the action and builds suspense, as characters chat about the events unfolding in the story.
There are a few keys to crafting believable and engaging dialog:
•Make it sound natural. Listen to real conversations for inspiration. Dialogue should flow and feel spontaneous, not stiff or forced. Use contractions, interruptions, and imperfect speech.
•Give each character a unique voice. The way people speak depends a lot on their background, education level, profession, and personality. Capture the subtleties of different speaking styles to bring your characters to life.
•Use dialogue tags and actions. Adding "he said/she said" and descriptions of characters' actions and expressions during conversations helps readers keep track of who's talking and provides context. Use a variety of tags like asked, exclaimed, and murmured.
•Move the conversation along. Keep dialog concise and avoid unnecessary filler words. Get to the point so readers stay interested in what's being said. Dialogue should always move the story forward.
•Show tension and conflict. Interesting conversations often involve disagreement, sarcasm, arguing, or questioning. Create tension through dialogue to keep readers engaged.
With the right techniques, you can make dialogue a pivotal part of your story. So listen, observe, and practice the art of great conversation - your readers will thank you!
Developing Distinctive Character Voices Through Dialogue
To develop distinctive voices for your characters, focus on how they speak. Dialogue is one of the best ways to bring your characters to life and propel your story forward.
Pay attention to your characters’ backgrounds, experiences, education levels, and attitudes. All of these factors influence how people talk in real life, so apply that to your characters. Maybe your wise-cracking character uses a lot of humor and sarcasm, while your shy character speaks hesitantly in short sentences.
Listen for speech patterns, accents, and catchphrases in real conversations and note them for inspiration. Capture the rhythm and flow of natural dialogue.
Give each character their own vocabulary based on their interests, jobs, and lifestyles. The tech geek’s dialogue will differ from the history professor’s.
Establish characters’ voices from their first lines of dialog. Look for a memorable way for them to express themselves. The impatient character may frequently use phrases like “spit it out already!” while the pessimist’s go-to is “what could possibly go wrong?”
Use dialog to reveal aspects of characters’ personalities and backgrounds without telling readers directly. Show, don’t tell. For example, a character who says “please” and “thank you” in every sentence likely has a polite and courteous nature.
Read dialogue aloud to make sure it sounds natural. Get friends or family members to read different characters’ lines. If anything sounds off, rework it.
With practice, crafting distinct voices for your characters through dialog will become second nature. Your characters' voices, conveyed through the words they say and the way they say them, will make your story come alive for readers. So take the time to get to know your characters by how they speak. Their voices are worth developing.
Using Dialogue to Reveal Character
Reveal Character Through Dialogue
Dialog is one of the best ways to reveal details about your characters and show their personalities. Carefully crafted conversations can expose a character's background, values, education level, and more without telling the reader outright.
As your characters talk, think about what kinds of words and phrases they would use based on who they are. An older British gentleman will speak very differently than a teenage skateboarder from California. Listen to people with similar backgrounds and life experiences to your characters for inspiration.
Also consider:
The rhythm and cadence of their speech. Do they speak quickly or slowly? Formally or casually?
Their vocabulary. Does your character use complex words and jargon or simpler language?
Grammar and pronunciation. Does your character follow the rules or have their own way of speaking?
For example, here's a short exchange that shows the contrast between two characters:
Jenny (teenage skateboarder): "Hey, you gonna drop in on the half pipe today or just pose by the ramp again?"
Mr. Edwards (older British gentleman): "I'm afraid vert skating is a young man's game, my dear. I'm quite content to watch you whippersnappers from the sidelines."
Even from this brief conversation, you get a sense of each character's age, background, and attitude without the author explicitly telling you. Mastering the art of subtext in dialog will make your stories come alive and allow readers to discover the depth in your characters for themselves.
Driving the Plot Forward With Meaningful Dialogue
To keep your readers engaged, your dialog needs to propel the story forward. Meaningful exchanges between characters should reveal information, create conflict, and raise the stakes.
Share Relevant Details
Use dialogue as an opportunity to share important details about the characters, their relationships, backstories, and the world they inhabit. For example:
“Did you hear they’re raising tuition again next semester?” Jenny asked.
“Ugh, not again,” Mark groaned. “How are we supposed to afford another five percent?”
This exchange informs the reader that Jenny and Mark are college students struggling with the costs. Look for natural ways to slip in context through dialog without sounding forced.
Create Conflict
Interesting stories thrive on tension, disagreement, and clashing perspectives. Have your characters bicker, argue, and challenge each other. For example:
“You never listen to me!” Alice shouted. “You always have to be right.”
“I’m not trying to be right,” Brian retorted. “I’m trying to protect you, but you’re too stubborn to see that.”
The quarrel fuels the underlying conflict in their relationship and keeps readers wondering how they’ll resolve their differences.
Raise the Stakes
Use meaningful dialog at key moments to increase the urgency, suspense or importance of what’s happening in the story. For example:
“The test results came back—it’s not good news,” the doctor said grimly.
Not only does this distressing announcement raise the stakes for the character’s health issue but it also creates a cliffhanger, leaving the reader wondering about the diagnosis and anxiously awaiting more details.
Meaningful dialog is essential for crafting an engaging story. Use it to inform readers, create conflict between characters, raise the stakes, and propel the plot toward a climax. With practice, writing authentic dialog will become second nature.
Creating Tension and Conflict Through Dialogue
To keep readers engaged, effective dialog should create tension and conflict between characters. As in real life, the conversations in your story should have stakes and push characters outside their comfort zone.
Show underlying tensions
Have characters disagree and argue to reveal underlying tensions. For example:
“You never listen to me. It’s always about what you want.”
“That’s not fair and you know it. I’ve sacrificed a lot for this family.”
This type of emotionally-charged exchange shows the couple has deeper issues to work through regarding resentment and lack of appreciation.
Create awkward situations
Put characters in awkward situations through dialog to ramp up the tension. For example:
“How’s the job search going?”
“Um, still looking. The market’s tough right now.”
“Really? I heard your company is hiring. I put in a good word for you with some people I know there.”
“Oh. Thanks, I guess.”
The second character is now in the difficult position of admitting the job search isn’t going well and they don’t actually have any leads. This cringeworthy moment translates the tension to readers.
Issue challenges and ultimatums
Have characters challenge each other by issuing warnings, demands or ultimatums, for example:
“If you walk out that door, we’re through. I mean it this time.”
“Don’t threaten me. You need me more than I need you.”
Throwing down the gauntlet in this way forces characters to back up their words with actions, which heightens the tension and conflict. Readers will keep reading to see who comes out on top!
Using dialog that highlights tension, creates awkwardness, and issues challenges is a great way to craft page-turning scenes that keep readers on the edge of their seats. Mastering the art of writing gripping dialogue is key to writing a story that resonates.
Avoiding Common Dialogue Mistakes
One of the biggest mistakes new writers make is crafting unrealistic or clichéd dialog. Your characters’ conversations should flow naturally and sound believable to readers. Avoid these common dialog doners:
Repeating Characters' Names
In real life, we rarely use someone's name in every sentence when talking to them. Only use a character's name when beginning a new exchange or for emphasis. Repeating names too often makes the dialog sound unnatural.
Overusing Exposition
Don't have characters explain things solely for the reader's benefit. Only include exposition that makes sense for the characters to actually say to each other. Find other creative ways to convey important backstory or worldbuilding details.
Forgetting Emotion
Dialog without emotional cues like facial expressions and body language can seem flat. Use emotive verbs and adverbs to show how the lines are delivered. For example, "she exclaimed" or "he muttered angrily." Also describe characters' physical reactions and behaviors to further bring the scene to life for readers.
Talking in Complete Sentences
Real conversations are often choppy, filled with interruptions, tangents, and imperfect grammar. Vary your sentence structure and length. Use fragments, run-ons, and breaks when appropriate. Not all dialog needs to be in perfectly punctuated full sentences.
Clichéd Phrases
Certain overused phrases like "it's quiet...too quiet" or "we've got company!" indicate lazy or clichéd writing. Come up with original ways for your characters to express themselves that fit with their unique personalities and situation. Avoid reusing trite or familiar sayings.
With practice, writing natural-sounding dialog will become second nature. Pay close attention to how real people speak, and aim to replicate the flow and cadence in your writing. Follow these tips, and your characters' conversations will truly come alive on the page!
Formatting Dialogue Correctly
When writing dialog, formatting it correctly is key to making it clear and compelling for readers. Here are some tips for formatting your dialogue effectively:
Use quotation marks
Place all dialogue between double quotation marks (“”). This indicates the character is speaking. For example:
“Hello,” she said. “How are you today?”
Start a new paragraph for each new speaker
Having each character's dialog on its own line makes it easy to follow who's talking. For example:
“Did you finish your homework?” Mom asked.
“I'm almost done,” I replied. “Just have some math problems left.”
Describe the speech
Use speech tags like "said", "asked", "replied" to indicate how the dialog was delivered. For example:
“I don't want to go to bed yet,” the little girl whined.
Punctuate properly
Place punctuation such as periods, commas, question marks, etc. within the quotation marks. For example:
“Where are you going?” she asked.
I said, “To the store. Do you need anything?”
Use beats
"Beats" are actions or descriptions that replace the "he/she said" tags. They make dialog more engaging and help set the scene. For example:
"I'm tired." John yawned and rubbed his eyes.
"Then go to sleep." Mary folded her arms, annoyance in her tone.
Avoid over-tagging
Don't tag every single line of dialog with "said" or the character's name. Let context and formatting do some of the work for you. For example:
"Did you talk to Mom today?"
"Yeah, she called this morning."
"What did she say?"
"That she'd be home in time for dinner."
Following these guidelines will make your dialogue clear, compelling, and help bring your story to life. Readers will appreciate dialog that flows naturally and is easy to follow.
Using Dialogue Tags Effectively
To write effective dialog, you need to master the use of dialog tags. Dialog tags are the parts of speech that indicate who is speaking, such as “he said” or “she asked”. When used properly, dialog tags can enhance your story without distracting the reader.
Choose tags that match the tone
Pick dialog tags that match the emotional tone of the dialog. For example, use “he whispered” for hushed speech or “she shouted” for loud, angry speech. Avoid reusing the same generic tags like “he said/she said” repeatedly, but don't get too creative either. Stick with simple verbs that imply the manner of speech.
Use action tags
Action tags describe a character's physical actions or expressions while speaking. For example, "“I’m not going,” he shook his head.” or ““What a day!” She ran her hands through her hair and sighed.” Action tags bring dialog to life and help the reader visualize the scene. They also give you an opportunity to reveal character details.
Drop the tag when implied
Once two characters establish a back-and-forth dialog, you can often drop the dialog tags altogether. As long as it's clear who is speaking, the tags become unnecessary. For example:
“Did you finish your homework?” Mom asked.
“Most of it,” I said.
“Most of it? What didn’t you finish?”
“Just some math problems. I’ll do them after dinner.”
“You’d better. I’m checking it tonight.”
After the first two lines, the reader understands that Mom and I are the speakers, so the remaining dialog does not need tags. Dropping implied tags creates a snappier feel and prevents repetitive, unnecessary tags.
Using a mix of well-placed dialog tags, action tags, and implied dialog, you can craft seamless conversations between characters that flow naturally, without distraction. Keep practicing and listening to real-world conversations for inspiration. With time, writing compelling dialog will become second nature.
FAQs About Writing Dialogue
When writing dialogue, questions inevitably come up. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about crafting realistic and compelling dialogue.
Do I use quotation marks or italics?
In fiction writing, use quotation marks (“”) to denote direct speech. Only use italics for thoughts or emphasis. Quotation marks allow the reader to easily distinguish between dialog and narration.
How do I avoid “he said, she said”?
To prevent repetitive “he said/she said” tags, use action tags that describe the speaker's actions or expressions. For example:
“We should get out of here,” he whispered, glancing around nervously.
She slammed her fist on the table. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
You can also drop the dialog tag altogether if the speaker is clearly identified through context or action. The dialog itself and how you structure the conversation can imply the tone.
How do I make dialogue sound natural?
Pay attention to the cadence and rhythm of actual conversations. Dialog should:
Sound like natural speech, not formal writing. Contractions are okay!
Have an easy back-and-forth flow. Keep responses concise and avoid monologs.
Capture unique speech patterns based on a character's background and personality.
Include interruptions, changes in subject, and imperfect grammar. We don't speak perfectly in real life!
What are the rules for punctuating dialog?
Use a comma between the dialogue tag and the dialog: “Hello,” she said.
If the dialog tag comes before the dialog, end it with a comma: She said, “Hello.”
If the dialogue is interrupted by a dialog tag, use commas to separate it from the tag: “Hello,” she said, “how are you?”
Use a period to end a sentence of dialog: “Hello.”
Use a question mark for a question: “How are you?” she asked.
Use an exclamation point for excitement or emphasis: “Wow!” he exclaimed.
Start a new paragraph each time the speaker changes.
Following these tips will have you crafting dialog like a pro in no time. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Additional Tips For Writing Dialogue
Keep it concise
When writing dialog, less is more. Keep exchanges brief and avoid long speeches. Readers will get bored quickly if characters drone on and on. Focus on using just enough dialog to convey key information or advance the scene.
Use natural language
Write dialog like people really speak. Use casual language, contractions, slang, and imperfect grammar. Drop words like “um”, “like”, and “you know” into conversations to make them sound authentic. Read your dialog aloud to ensure it flows naturally. If it sounds stilted or awkward when spoken, it will come across that way to readers as well.
Share emotions
Dialog should reveal characters’ emotions and attitudes. Have characters express feelings like excitement, frustration, fear or affection through their word choice, tone, and body language. For example, a character who sighs, rolls their eyes or speaks in a sarcastic tone conveys a very different emotion than one who smiles, makes eye contact and speaks enthusiastically.
Keep it relevant
All dialog should serve a purpose, whether to reveal something about a character, advance the plot or set a mood. Avoid “empty” exchanges that fill space but add no value. If a conversation seems pointless or dull, cut or rewrite it.
Use action and description
Don't rely solely on dialog to carry a scene. Include action and descriptions to give readers a more complete picture. For example:
"Where were you?" Anna asked.
Mark sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I got stuck at work. I'm really sorry."
The description of Mark's actions and appearance helps the reader understand his emotional state and see the full context of the conversation.
Leave room for interpretation
Don't have characters over-explain or outright state their feelings and motivations. Leave some details to the reader's imagination. For example, instead of:
"I'm angry that you lied to me," Amy said angrily.
Try:
Amy folded her arms and glared at him. "You lied to me."
The emotional context is clear without having to explicitly state Amy's anger. Subtlety and nuance in dialog make for a more engaging read.
Conclusion
So there you have it, the keys to mastering dialogue/dialog in your writing. I hope my extensive research was enough information for you all. Focus on listening to the voices around you, develop unique voices for your characters, keep your exchanges tight and impactful. Remember, dialog should always move the story forward, not just fill space on the page. With practice, writing compelling dialog can become second nature. Now go eavesdrop on conversations, study your favorite books and shows, and get to work crafting those conversations. Your characters and readers will thank you for it. Keep at it and before you know it, you'll be writing dialog with the best of them!
(Keep in mind I used both dialog and dialogue just in case there's a few who get annoyed with that.)

Saturday Morning Vid Recs - Women!
Back in January I told @poetikat that I wanted to share just a fraction of vids I’ve seen since I started vidding in 2007 that I love. Taken me forever to format the links into a post to share. I have several more posts half-finished and may show up on your dashboard in following weeks or months.
I'm reccing vids that are at least 1 year old, but most of these vids are 4 and 8 and 12 years old and sometimes older. These vids feature a variety of sources, characters, genres of music, genres of shows. Each of these vidders have their own style and the way they approach a song or a source. I love these vids, they're fun to watch, they're hot, mesmerizing, engaging, thoughtful, full of love and horniness and BAMFs and joy and struggle. I love. I love.
I give to you 23 vids for this weekend's theme:

I’m in love with River Song so of course I have to rec this. I get high on a buzz then a rush when I'm plugged in you. Counting Stars by beccatoria. DC Animated Wonder Woman.
