To explain what I was talking about late late last night but ended up talking around: The X Files wonderfully embodies a spectrum of human emotion, but to me, does none so as well as the way it talks about wonder and love.

On the part of love it says: the truths we look for are in other people. The way we love other people is how we win. Not out of fear but out of love and the bonds we have with each other are the most important truth we can hope to know.

On the part of wonder the X Files says: to look into the unknown is so wonderfully human. To gaze at the stars and wonder at what we find there is human nature. To search for truth -- the truths of the universe, of the unknown, the truths between me and you, is wonderfully, essentially human. It's part of our nature to search for these things and Samantha is the heart of this. Aside from Samantha's disappearance being the inciting event of the show, she is the embodiment of this mystery. To wonder at the stars knowing she's up there, to search for the truth and find greater ones in turn -- Samantha is the key to this.

So to kill her off as an aside just to reach 'closure'; to make her nothing more than a victim rather than the person who invites and embodies for both Mulder and Scully the part that's so achingly unknown seemed like a horrible tragedy to me. Where did it go. Was the truth we found human cruelty??? Was that it the whole time????

In s4-s5 and Fight the Future, it seemed that we inched ever nearer to finding Samantha. It was teased that she was alive: that like the truths we hoped to find, she was still out there, waiting. There was a point at which the extraterrestrial mirrored the human. FTF and these middle seasons almost seemed to say: no, there is no fundamental difference between extraterrestrial and human cruelty. The extraterrestrial forces were in conflict just the same way human forces were. Samantha was sent away embodying the hopes of humanity, however horrible that decision was. Of course, we can't ignore that Samantha was a victim, and the later seasons of the X Files lean into this. Abduction is a violent act, and what Scully, Samantha, and the MUFON women went through was horrible. I really would've loved it if they explored this more, but they didn't, and still there's this contrariness to Samantha's abduction.

It's said in FTF that Bill Mulder held two hopes -- that Mulder would uncover the abuse of the Syndicate and reveal the truth, and that Samantha would be allowed the chance to survive and would be able to give that to the world. There were extraterrestrial rebels fighting against colonization and the Syndicate the same way Mulder and Scully do. This contrariness, this uncertainty, is part of the X Files too.

Samantha's abduction always implied that she would be returned. We were teased that she would be found. Over and over, we are told that she is alive, that she is still out there for Mulder to find. Whether she was a human test subject or off in the stars, the truth was living and breathing, waiting to be found.

The X Files says the truth is out there, that looking to the stars is part of the human experience, that our connections to each other are so fundamental to our worldview and that they enable us to endure anything. The X Files is wonder at the heart, the intersection of the unknown and known, and that the truth is each other. Samantha was Scully and Mulder's first step to that truth. Even with everything that they endured, the wonder and love that is the motivating force of everything that we see is inextinguishable. Samantha is the vessel for these beliefs.

Retconning Samantha Mulder from her place embodying the hopes and dreams of humanity, however horribly that came about, to a child that was abused until she died weakens the sentiments at the heart of The X Files.

yk i’m at the point that i literally don’t accept s7e11 “closure” as canon. it makes me ANGRY now because the more i look at all the past seasons and everything they’ve done with the samantha arc and how important it’s been to mulder’s character, it just defaces and denies all of it. it just- it’s not fair. after all mulder has been through to continue to believe that samantha was abducted just for it to be thrown out the window? for him to accept it finally in a way which was supposed to be meaningful and big but altogether uncharacteristic and hollow? it’s like they tried to abide by paper hearts ideologies but through a seemingly unnessary dark meandering of new paranormalities. it also creates so much more inconsistency along with what we started to see from s5 and beyond in the samantha plot, it doesn’t explain it. for instance, in the colony arc, the samantha-looking clones say “how could we know so much about her” and WHO if not samantha is this woman they were modeled after??? did the clones just grow old from the little samantha’s on that bee farm thing so they knew what she’d age like?? IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE!!! IT’S NOT ENOUGH!! CC YOU CANT GET AWAY THAT EASY!!

great points on Diana. I can't quite figure out what I think about her narrative yet. I didn't like when she first appeared because she came across and part of a suspicious character, and her appeal was very unappealing. When Gibson is ready to disclose who Mulder is thinking about, oh boy does she want to know to stop up the pot. She's aggressive but in a frozen manner. What I mean by that is her facial expressions seem frozen, her voice is almost stilted, and her eyes lack the dance that we see in Scully' and Mulder's. I also don't know what to think about her because she didn't get a real conclusion. We are told that she is killed, but was she? Maybe she is just reassigned to do something else. I wanted to see the closure or some actual redemption of her alliance with CSM.

With that being said, when do you think Mulder figured out that Diana was lying to him and couldn't be trusted? Was it the night that he went to her apartment or when he was in his mind-reading, psychosis state? AND, do you think that during the Diana period, after work or on the weekends, Mulder and Diana had some flings or some sort of relationship?

Did Mulder choose Scully or did he get Scully by default because Diana was removed from the equation?

diana was soooo underutilized. i had vaguely heard of her before i reached her part of the story and i was expecting this big, huge, MSR-shattering deal, and then she was hardly ever on screen. i get that the actress wasn't available very often, but then don't try to make a love triangle if she's only going to be in five episodes and the rest of the time it's like she doesn't even exist.

frozen is a perfect word to describe her. she's just so insincere so much of the time. everything is a performance, tailored specifically to get mulder on her side. she's basically a more subtle version of phoebe imo; manipulative, but in a way that can slide under the radar if you're not looking for it (which mulder isn't; he wants to believe she wants the best for him).

i'm so annoyed that she was killed off-screen lmao. this show brought back jeffrey spender after we saw him get shot, brought back csm after he was literally blown up in a fiery explosion, but we don't even see diana die and she never comes back?? i'm suspicious...

(btw if you're looking for fics where she wasn't actually killed in amor fati, Gaslight by @sisterspooky1013 and Pause by @cecilysass are two of the best imo, and if you're looking for a redemption story/something that actually fleshes out her character a bit more, I recommend The Whole Truth by @admiralty-xfd and The Only Answer by me lmao)

as for when mulder finally figured out he couldn't trust her, he absolutely knew it when she went to see him in the hospital and he could read her mind. there's no way he doesn't know at that point. when he went to her apartment, he was at the very least open to the possibility that she had betrayed him. he wouldn't have gone in the first place if he really thought there couldn't be anything to it. but then csm shows up and somehow that doesn't raise a big red flag so i don't think he really got it then. it's not clear at the end of one son if mulder and the others believe that diana was among those killed at the air force base, and since she never appears or is mentioned between one son and biogenesis, we don't know at what point mulder finds out she somehow survived. depending on the circumstances of his finding out, it might have raised suspicions in his mind, which were then confirmed by the mind-reading.

my answer to the question of whether mulder and diana had any flings during this period is abso-fucking-lutely not, and not just because i personally can't stand the idea. the only time i can really see it happening is when she first shows up in the season 5 finale, but there's just no time for anything like that to happen during that episode. beyond that point, mulder starts off season 6 annoyed at diana for taking over the x-files behind his back, but then scully pulls the rug out from under him at the opr hearing after he pretty much made a fool of himself declaring confidently that she was about to prove the virus was alien, so he takes diana's side in that episode out of sheer petulance. after that he's too busy chasing "vicious, long-clawed spacelings" to be bothered to have any flings, but then at the end of the episode, scully finally comes through with evidence of alien dna in the human genome. it's too late to take back the way he embarrassed himself at the opr hearing, but it begins to put them back on the same page. and then during the period when they're off the x-files, mulder's digging through the trash in their old office to find x-files for him and scully to investigate instead of just asking diana to sneak some files out of the office for him, which i can't imagine him not doing if they're having any kind of relationship. also he’s clearly never been to diana’s apartment before one son.

this whole season is about mulder and scully dancing around the idea of being together, which is something mulder wants but is afraid to express directly, not knowing that's precisely what scully needs to hear. i just can't see him choosing to be with diana except maybe for when he's still disoriented by her sudden reappearance, and there wasn't room in the timeline of the episode for that to happen.

@randomfoggytiger broke down the progression of mulder and scully's relationship during season 6 very well, and i have nothing to add except that yes, mulder chose scully, this whole season is about mulder choosing scully, learning to appreciate her and to express that appreciation the way she wants him to. diana really is irrelevant in the end.

Is Nail Fiend actually the Curse Devil?

It was awesome to see the Nail Fiend (and Katana Man) return this chapter

Back when the Nail Fiend was first introduced, a common theory has been that rather than being possessed by the Nail Devil, they are actually the fiend-ified Curse Devil. Opinions on this theory seem to be pretty divided, and since the Nail Fiend is coming back into the spotlight with this latest chapter, I felt it would be worthwhile to make a post re-evaluating this theory in its entirety.

The main reason for this theory is that the Curse Devils choice of weapon is a nail, just like the fiend's, with both Aki and Santa Claus needing to pierce their victims with a nail to trigger the Curse Devil's attack

In addition, the Curse Devils attack takes the form of a crucifixion, and when the "Nail Fiend" debuts, they hang up the church schoolkids with nails in a crucifix position.

There's also the fact that a Nail Devil doesn't really seem like they'd be that powerful at all under CSM's fear based system, and considering that fiends have a further reduction in power compared to devils, the speed and competence that the "Nail fiend" shows could be considered unreasonably powerful for just representing the concept of nails.

You could argue that the Nail Devil also represents the hammer and nail curse ritual (Ushi no toki mari) to give a reason for its power, but the Curse devil already clearly takes inspiration from that. It would be incredibly redundant to make the Nail Devil just represent the exact same thing as the Curse Devil, and it would make more sense to just re-use that devil, it's not like Fujimoto has had a problem with reintroducing devils from Part 1.

The main counterargument for this theory that I have seen is the fact that the fiend's introduction chapter was named "Guns, Nails, Katana", with people arguing that because the chapter title uses the word "Nail" that the fiend must then must be the Nail Fiend.

I don't think this argument really holds any weight, the chapter had "Nails" in the title because the fiend used a bunch of nails and the chapter title was describing what happened in the chapter. It's like how the "Guns" in the title refers to how the chainsaw church followers used a bunch of guns, not that they were contracted with the Gun Devil. If anything the title "Guns, Curse, Katana" would be really strange and out of place, because it would be revealing something that wasn't actually revealed in the chapter itself.

At the end of the day this theory is still unconfirmed though, and we'll really just have to wait until we see the Nail Fiend show off a bit more of their powers before we can really call it one way or the other. Though I am definitely hoping to see some curse action in the upcoming chapters.

Also: if they really are the Curse Fiend, then them being paired up with Katana Man is pretty funny, considering they straight up murdered him in Part 1. This fact doesn't really affect the likeliness of the theory, but I think it's pretty neat.

Gojo had been trying for weeks to convince Y/n to go on a date with him, but she always found a way to turn him down. It seemed like she was determined to keep their relationship strictly professional. But Gojo was relentless and refused to give up, He even asked Itadori, Nobara, and Megumi to help him Megumi refused but he was forced to anyways

One day, as they were discussing their plans for the weekend, Gojo mustered up the courage to try once again. "Y/n, I know you've been avoiding going on a date with me, but I promise it'll be fun. How about we go out this Saturday?" He smirked

I sighed, clearly hesitant. "Gojo, I've told you before, I don't think it's a good idea. We work together, and I don't want things to get complicated, Everything is strictly professional between us."

Gojo smiled mischievously, his eyes twinkling. "I understand your concerns, but what if I told you I know the perfect place to go to~? It would definitely make you change your mind."

I raised an eyebrow, curious about his sudden change in approach. "And where would that be?"

Gojo leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low, enticing tone. "There's this amazing sushi restaurant that recently opened downtown. They serve the most delicious and unique sushi rolls you've ever tasted. It's an experience that you won't want to miss."

My eyes widened with newfound interest. I was a sushi lover, and the thought of trying new and innovative rolls was tempting. Still, I fought to maintain my resolve. "Nice try, Gojo, but sushi isn't enough to change my mind, You should knot that."

Gojo leaned back, pretending to be disappointed. "Well, if you say so. I guess I'll just have to enjoy those mouthwatering sushi rolls all by myself!"

I hesitated for a moment, my curiosity still getting the better of me. "Okay, fine. But this doesn't mean anything. It's just sushi."

Gojo smirked, victorious. "Of course, just sushi. I'll pick you up at seven on Saturday then."

As Saturday evening approached, Y/n found herself getting a a bit nervous. It wasn't a date, she reminded herself. Just two colleagues going out for sushi. But when Gojo arrived at her door, dressed in a sharp suit and holding a bouquet of her favorite flowers, Y/n couldn't help but feel a bit of excitement, A small smile planted on her lips.

They arrived at the sushi restaurant, and Y/n was immediately mesmerized by the elegant ambiance and the mouthwatering aroma of freshly prepared sushi. As they sat down, Gojo ordered an assortment of rolls, each more creative and delicious than the last. Y/n couldn't help but be swept away by the culinary experience.

As they laughed and shared stories between bites, Y/n realized that she was genuinely enjoying herself. The false facade she had built around her slowly began to crumble, and she allowed herself to relax in Gojo's company.

By the end of the night, Y/n found herself smiling and feeling a warmth in her heart that she hadn't felt in a long time. As they left the restaurant, Gojo glanced at her with a knowing grin. "I told you, Y/n. Sushi has its way of making everything better."

I smiled, my resistance finally giving way. "Maybe... just maybe, there's more to this than just sushi on the other hand, Our relationship is still strictly professional."

Gojo's grin widened and then he pouted at last thing i said, But he took my hand, intertwining our fingers. "I'm glad you finally gave me a chance, Y/n. But hey, You enjoyed it didnt you ?"

Y/n nodded, Before she can reply she hears a noise in the bush behind them, Gojo practically sweatdropping

"This is your fault, Itadori! Now they see us!" Nobara shouted her fake disguise falling off her face

"My fault!? You were the one that kept kicking me and Fushiguro!" Itadori shouted back, As he pushes her out the bush

I walk forward, Dragging Gojo along with me "I made sure to leave some sushi left back for you guys, But on the other hand, I knew you guys were here I enjoyed the show." I smile as the group of 3 tries to catch up to us.

I absolutely love your art of Sundown, he’s one of my favorites (next to Akira) 🙂 honestly he’s hilarious in the Dominion of Hate, he’ll literally fight Akira for no reason, he’s got this “tired single dad handling 6 kids” energy to him, and he even like…scolds Oersted? It sounded like? (His voice actor, Reagan Murdock, played Aki Hayakawa in this anime called Chainsaw Man, so i guess he has experience with voicing a guy who needs to wrangle teenagers 😅) do you happen to have any hcs for him?

Sadly there are currently no in-game dialogues showing how he interacts with the other party members (party banter like octopath is a common DLC request), but Mad Dog has a line about Sundown "being bad with the little ones", which is either Mad Dog's interpretation based on what he wants to see, or Sundown's stoicism and bluntness really does tend intimidate the kids. (I don't watch CSM so I will take your work for it... But I'm sure Mr. Murdock does a great job! He has a great voice for it...)

But from what we do know for sure (from his recruitment quest and his dialogue to Sin when out of the party of the final 4) is he is very tired, and wants nothing to do with you.

tbh that's part of the reason I'm fascinated with him, is in a whole party full of spunky/quirky anime youngsters who have Psychic powers, martial arts, laser canons, ninja powers, etc. (the oldest being Masaru who's usually hc'd at 25 years old for the meme).... there's just. A guy. Maybe late 30s/early 40s. With a gun.

People joke about Masaru being the Straight Man (which is true to some extent), but I feel like he handles the weirdness a bit better than Sundown does, just on account of his adaptable nature. If Mad Dog's reaction to O. Dio's true form was any indication, supernatural stuff is... Not normal for their time period. So I think Sundown is much more the Straight Man in the DoH just cuz he stands out so much from everyone else. (not that he isn't silly in his own way... he's based on Clint Eastwood ffs lol)

...and I wrote all of this text without even getting to my headcanons, so if that isn't any a warning for how much I can ramble about him at length, then let this cut should tell you. (you asked, sorry not sorry lol)

So warning in advance, there's gonna be a teeny bit of overlap with Mad Dog hcs on some of these because of how much the two intertwine with each other. They kinda come as a package deal.

Some of my hcs you've probably seen in this comic. Most notably; not just the survivor's guilt, but also in the panic of the raid on the town and the flurry of using the Hurricane Shot, he's not entirely sure if he only shot the invading bandits. :( He worried he might have gotten some townsfolk in there too. (Mostly illustrated on pages 5-6 when all the figures kinda blend together)

At the time I made the comic I thought it was just a theory that he'd placed the bounty on himself, I somehow missed the fact that it was canon. But the fact that it is canon definitely drives home both the survivor's guilt, and him fearing death despite having a death wish. (There's much easier ways to off yourself homie, you don't gotta have a bizarre death ritual with randos obsessed with fame and glory... </3)

On the earlier topic, he might not so much be bad with kids, as he is... blunt. He doesn't sugar coat stuff, and he's probably very hands-off. If he really was the respected sheriff of [Unnamed Town], he probably had some experience with kids in the past, but I suspect between the trauma and some degree of wanting to keep everyone else safe, he's cold and aloof on purpose. He was probably more sociable before The Incident. (Much like a certain blond knight)

But he does work well with others in the DoH and is brief but polite to everyone, even the younger characters. (I cry every time he says "thanks" or "sorry" when another party member heals him... TT0TT)

All that aside, some of the more domestic hcs:

• I think Sunny is very skilled at sewing!! Living out in the wilds and not having access to new clothes very often/if at all means he had to get good at repairing his own clothes. And between sleeping out under the stars and the bullet holes, he has plenty of practice... (MD called him girly for it once, and with a completely straight face, Sunny said "Why do you think being self-sufficient is inherently feminine...?". MD never mentioned it again.)

• The trade-off however is that he's... Not an amazing cook. Everything is either eaten raw or roasted over a fire, and he doesn't have a ton of access to spices and herbs in the wilds... Very utilitarian in his cooking methods.

• That ties into the next point; the dude's got a cast iron stomach. If the guy can canonically down an infinite number of glasses of milk (LONG after most adults develop lactose intolerance), the guy can eat pretty much anything. Including whatever rattlesnakes (and cactus) he found to eat.

• This is actually canon, but he does know Spanish. If not fluently, at least enough to understand it but not speak it. (I hc him as fluent though.)

• Sunny is probably a very skilled dancer! If for no other reason other than dodging bullets for years lmao. MD catches a glimpse once. Sunny looks him dead in the eyes and says "No one will ever believe you."

• I've already discussed this, but Sunny probably used to be left-handed, and either due to societal necessity or an injury, he became ambidextrous!

• Now that I'm thinking about it actually, I drew Young Sundown in the comic with much less facial hair to just make him look younger... But it actually makes sense that between the depression (and possibly self loathing), he kinda uses the facial hair as like... A mask? Like, so he doesn't have to see himself in a way? (I might be reading too much into it, the OG art does show he shapes his scruff and it's not completely unkempt, so maybe it started as Depression Scruff, and he just shaves it as best he can with a knife lol)

• I used to hc that he didn't name his horse because he didn't want to get attached. (He just calls it Horse) But after talking to another Really Cool Wild West Artist in the JP fandom, it's not impossible that he could have had the same horse the entire time... So that's not a hill I need to die on lol.

• For obvious reasons, he's a hard guy to get to laugh. If he does, it's usually wry and understated. But on the rare occasion he does genuinely laugh, he's more inclined to stifle it at first, more out of habit than anything else. It takes a lot to get him rolling in the aisles.

...But that's getting into BBFF territory, which is a whole 'nuther post, and definitely not something I have rambled about at length and stored on a hidden discord server.

homunculi (thank you 😅) au is based on a game, right? so will it follow the game plot or be like csm au where you make your own plot with the story elements?

detective au, i'm just wondering what your premise would be! i love the way you write characters and am interested to see how you would fit them into an au like that

the thing is with me is that i always pull a csm au, no matter what i'm basing it off of. i just don't believe in copy pasting an already existing story with different characters - because those characters will make a difference due to how different they are from canon characters. get creative with it! make a whole new plot! and especially in a world with the steampunk/homunculi one, which is still in early access, i'm really just grasping at the straws of what i can see and reading in between the lines and then constructing my own plot based around it. although this is going to follow the canon storyline a little more closely than most of my other aus, it will still have its own quirks and it will definitely deviate off canon after the first bit of worldbuilding establishments.

my premise is that!! detective ratio who attempts to 'save' all the criminals that he meets (saviour complex who?), aka trying to empathize with some criminals to see where they're coming from and actively stepping into the aftermath of his cases (comforting the families of the deceased, buying flowers for the deceased's grave in the case of a murder case, etc), while aventurine comes from a life of crime now turned detective partner, is utterly fascinated with the way ratio handles his cases and can't help but wonder, had he met ratio earlier, what would have happened? he holds differentiating views from ratio but with both of their shared intelligence and compatibility, they save people from heists and robberies while kicking ass with secret superpowers!

Unfinished, but best Sukuna/Uraume fic I've ever read. Uraume is asexual and nonbinary. Love the world building and general prose here. Most of the chapters are focused on how the two grew up and they only really meet in the last one, but it's still incredibly good.

I like how Sakura slowly gets sucked in deeper in Orochimaru's machinations and loses any moral qualms she would otherwise have about the research they are doing, going so far as to compromise her own health for it. Just the sort of Mad Scientist story I like.

A civilian enters one of Orochimaru's abandoned bases and inspects what has been left behind. I love stories that show the horror we are often familiar with in a story from the perspective from an outsider, especially if it involves the discovery of medical malpractice. There's a creeping sort of terror as we discover with this person what happened and piece together what horrible acts have been committed here. It actually really influenced my writing and was what I always aspired to write as well.

okay so we actually only started talking during our last year of highschool and bonded over music. at first i thought he was pretty cool but i didn't see him in a romantic way since he was pretty closed off. but once i found out he was a devil hunter (my silly aah was almost obliterated by a devil when i went out for a cig during a break and he saved me) he started opening up to me and we eventually got super close and started dating. now we plan to move in together during college♡

as for our dynamic we're very silly together♡ i do leech off him a little bit since he has that devil hunter salary (he bought me food and a plushie once and now it's a thing) but i compensate by baking him muffins and biscuits and being a free therapist (he's been through a lot and needs someone fr). overall there's not much of a story, it just happened naturally but we have a good time together. anyway here are more deets and sillies♡

so you mentioned that fandoms that are more directed to an older audience is up to you wether you do the request or not (hopefully that makes sense? Im not good at phrasing stuff:')) if so does shows like: Trigun(stampede), CSM, etc, count? For example Trigun is more of a western timeline(?) And has some adult stuff like weapons (guns) and drinking but I think beyond that point its pretty mild (at least the newer ver is. If I did a request I'm more directed into asking a request from that ver of the show) would you be able to make a moodboard of a certain character from said show (like if their from a show where it's more in a western timeline or, their whole char design is just cowboy material jsjs) I hope this makes sense im sorry if it doesnt:(

Hello again!! For characters specifically, I'm almost always going to say yes, because all I need from the source material would be screenshots of their face! So, most animated media especially will usually be okay!!

The only time anything is really a problem is when someone wants something generally based on adult media. For example, if someone asked for Saw (the movie), I'm likey to turn that down because it's hard to make the general vibes of that sfw, but obviously some pieces of media are easier than others, and I can see most things going over fine.

Anyway, I say it's up to my discretion because at the end of the day it all comes down to if I think I can pull it off, and I haven't turned anyone down yet! I hope this helps!!

Longpost about chapter 142 (a bit late lol) I am so hyped to see where the story is going!!!!! I have some thoughts and predictions and words to yell at the author because this manga is crazy and i love it!!!!!!! Typical warnings for spoilers and canon-typical themes

Ok first off I LOVE that Denji and Nayuta are having wholesome outing time, Nayuta just being able to do regular kid stuff! And Denji is now the responsible one, instead of misbehaving. I think he has become a lot more like Aki in terms of responsibility and just how… mature he has become. He’s still Denji but his goals and priorities have shifted from stay alive, eat good food, be useful to makima/be chainsaw man, and touch boobs; to stay alive, keep nayuta alive, give nayuta a happy life.

Barem/Flamethrower hints at the plan to kill as many people as possible, and also that he wants to see chainsaw man “suffering and struggling and getting killed… and despite it all, returning to life and getting back up again”. Which is quite a lot? Some thoughts:

>Barem/Flamethrower seems to “worship” chainsaw man in a way very similar to Makima, in that he wants to see him suffer. How much of makima’s mind control remains? Was he even controlled in the first place? Maybe he joined with her of his free will because he agreed with her.

>Why is Miri/the sword hybrid working with Barem/flamethrower… He seemed to get along with Denji somewhat, or at least he seems to see him as a peer rather than a devil or a god. He looks like denji and honestly just seems like a Denji parallel

>Goddamnit they see Denji as a christ figure!!!!!!!! Not surprising for an organization calling themselves the “Chainsaw Man Church”, but still disappointing.

I don’t think that Denji will go to save them though. As long as Nayuta isn’t in danger, he has no real reason to. If he goes, he risks getting injured/dying/leaving Nayuta alone, and as far as he knows Public Safety will hurt Nayuta if he leaves. I think he would want to prevent people from dying, but he wants to keep Nayuta and himself alive more. Barem/flamethrower would probably have to take Nayuta hostage or something for Denji to become chainsaw man again, and based on his character so far he probably isn’t opposed to kidnapping or torture to get what he wants.

Fumi is being. Herself, I guess? We get some more backstory for her, which is cool though! And she is at least up front about how she feels about denji (does not try to deny that she hates him a bit) and emphasizes that she is a fan of Denji, not chainsaw man.

The weapon humans all assembled, ecxept for Katana man, Reze, and Quanxi. They are all probably alive, but it is understandable that Reze and Quanxi wouldn't want to get involved with the church. Quanxi is probably mourning her gfs, and doesn't care about csm in general. She only went after him because that was her job. I think Reze might care about Denji but I don't think she cares enough to try to find him or join a church dedicated to his devil form. No clue whats up with Katana though. I think itd be cool if they returned but i doubt they will.

I'd be curious about your thoughts: It's been awhile since I watched En Ami; but I always took that scene as Scully knowing he's lying, knowing he (in all probability) had tampered with her, but weighing the costs and the benefits. Since she didn't feel any trauma to her body, there was nothing to pinpoint as a hole in his lies; and in that case, it came down to the original point: were the risks of this trip worth it? Scully, imo, was still playing along to get the "cure to everything"-- her selflessness for humanity (and cure for her cancer) outweighing any temporary misgivings.

I do believe if she had felt any trauma or any lingering sensation she would have been gone. But she didn't; and she still didn't have the cure.

It's the ending, I think, that flubs it the most: instead of focusing on Scully's rage for being baited (though it's touched on slightly), and Mulder's boiling rage on her behalf (though, again, it's slightly touched on), they end it focused on CSM and his weird little "redemption arc" bit. Sure, fine, whatever; but it leaves it on a sympathetic note for him in the vein of Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man. Yes, it was his own self-pitying POV; but this episode ALSO involved Scully heavily. There needed to be a focus on her own letdown, anger, trauma, and fear that she finally lets rise to the surface.

There wasn't enough time for all of these elements, of course.

Am I off base? Could be-- curious how far! XDDD

Well, I'm not gonna tell you you're off-base! 😆 After all, everyone views the episodes through their own lenses and it's all subjective.

I just don't buy anything about this episode - from start to finish. WBD wasn't at all subtle when it came to writing this redemption tale for CSM. For one thing the character had done absolutely nothing to deserve it. For another, it required taking one of the leads and erasing almost everything we knew about what drives her personally and professionally, about her own experiences with CSM and all it had cost her and Mulder, and portrayed her as naive and gullible. While it's not too far off the mark to attach those descriptions to Mulder from time to time, nothing I'd seen of Scully up to that point led me to believe she would go with CSM based on nothing more than his word. And then stay even after she woke to find herself in that bed in pajamas she knew without a doubt she hadn't changed into herself.

Even with what knowledge she had about where Mulder had found the chip that may have cured her cancer, I can't believe that alone would cause her to trust CSM enough to put her safety and well-being in his hands. I don't believe that even with the possibility of a cure for all cancer, all illness waved in front of her like a carrot on a stick, that she would so impulsively drop everything and go with him. Scully doesn't do impulsive. She overthinks everything, and I think the only person who can drive her to impulsivity is Mulder, and then only when he's pissed her off (see Ed Jerse). So, no, I can never buy that her sense of selflessness would override her bullshit detector, not when it comes to CSM.

Yes, she took precautions by rigging the hidden microphone and then mailing the tape (?!?!?) to Mulder. But it was uncharacteristically stupid of her to go in the first place. And she had to have known that as soon as Skinner told Mulder there was a Scully family emergency, he would've had his nose to the ground like a bloodhound.

I could go on but I'll spare you. Let me wrap this up by saying that Scully didn't earn the right to rage about being baited; it's something she should've anticipated from the get-go. And she then rationalizes her gullibility by saying that she saw something in CSM that made her believe his intentions were good? Puh-leeze. And I couldn't disagree more with your belief that Mulder was pissed for Scully. He was pissed at her, and rightly so.

In closing, it doesn't surprise me that the fallout of Scully's actions were never addressed or mentioned again. Mulder and Scully have always been chess pieces to be molded and moved around the board however CC saw fit. It's just that it was done to Scully in far more egregious ways than Mulder was ever made to suffer.

Yep, still hate this episode as much as ever.

Y/n mustered up the courage to approach Eren. She had noticed his personality due to meeting him before and couldn't help but be intrigued but frustrated by it.

"Eren," Y/n spoke quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I have a proposition for you, Are you busy tomorrow?"

Eren turned to face her, his eyes narrowed with curiosity. "What is it, Y/n?"

I took a deep breath, my gaze steady only by a bit. "Would you.. Go on a.. Date with me?"

Eren's brow furrowed, clearly surprised by her request. "A date? Why would you want that? You don't seem like that type of person."

A scowl appeared on my face, I knew this guy was half assed but I didnt expect this. "It's yes or no! Don't make it difficult for me!"

"Fine, Since I have nothing else to do.. I'll gladly accept."

A cautious smile tugged at the corners of my lips, "Thanks.. I guess."

As the day of their date arrived, Y/n found herself feeling a mix of nervousness and anticipation. She had chosen a quiet spot by the river, away from the bustling city and the prying eyes of her classmates. It was a place where she felt at peace, The only problem was what was gonna happen.

As we sat together on the riverbank, i finally found the courage to speak my mind. "Eren, Did you know that snakes change their jaws to swallow their predators eggs?"

Eren's gaze softened as he listened to her words. "Huh? That's gross, How do you even know this?"

I looked at Eren, Feeling a bit of heat rise to my cheeks "Well.. I did my research, Unlike you."

"Is that a compliment or an insult!?"

As they continued their date, Y/n allowed herself to embrace the moment and listen to Eren talk about his past and what it was like

"I brought strawberries, I overheard you talk about the dirt within them so I cleaned them," Eren changes the conversation suddenly, Handing me a chocolate covered strawberry "You're fun."

F-- Fun..?" I question, Eating the chocolate covered strawberry, The taste delicate and savory

"What you say is totally boring.. But you're definitely interesting to watch." Eren responded, Taking a sip of his soda

"Yeah that's right.. I'm an interesting woman!" I added on, A big grin on my face, Surprisingly what he said lifted my spirit a bit.

"Yeah."

"I'm fun right!?" I exclaim, Joy plastered all over my face, Maybe Eren wasn't so bad.

"Uh huh, Instead of rambling you should eat the rest of the strawberries before I eat them." Eren answered, He took the strawberry from you and raised it about his mouth, Almost in a teasing manner

"Hey! Put that down, Greedy! You already had your share!" I snatch the remaining strawberry back from Eren and ate it

"You were gonna let them sit and become cold, So I was going to do you a favor." Eren objected, The rest of the date was comfortable and somehow was going well

It started raining which causes Y/n and Eren to leave the date, Instead Eren insisted to walk her home

"Thanks for walking me home, That had to be the worst date ever." I stated, A frown on my face

"It wasn't so bad!" Eren commented, He surprisingly found the snake fact interesting

"Oh yeah?" I questioned him once more, Before I could add on he speaks again

"Yeah," Insisted Eren, He gave a smug smile before turning his gaze fully on you. "Hey."

"Huh?"

"I have more experience dating, I'll teach you how to have the best dates ever." Eren intertwines his fingers with yours, A faint blush appearing on his cheeks

This is only about the anime as I haven’t read the manga or engaged much with csm at all besides that. and sorry that this is disjointed this is just my natural unfiltered sleep deprived word splatter

OKAY. so once I adapted to the graphic gore and constant sex jokes and channeled my inner edgy teenager and adjusted to how bizarre and alarming it was… I was surprised but I actually started to really enjoy it. because I feel the disjointed cynicism and humour and general awfulness of it fits this bleak awful universe it’s set in and makes it all the more believable

I really love the idea of an object or concept becoming a devil and having an appropriate level of threat and danger based on how people perceive it? and that it can change with major events and become worse over time and fluctuate. I think the concept is what got me hooked.

I really want to know more about the universe it’s set in. it’s fascinating to me. It was casually mentioned that the Soviet Union exists??? What year is this anime even set… Are nuclear weapons present in this universe? I feel that nuclear energy would be the most threatening devil but there’s been no mention of it. Or any epidemics? or natural disasters? instead the gun devil is the largest threat. also if the gun devil appeared in america why are bits of it all over japan? how did it get there? can devils cross oceans. do they do interplanar travel or something. do you get extremely culturally specific devils that are only found in specific countries. are there geographic influences. WHY is everyone suddenly so obsessed with denji when he just had a puppy chainsaw possess him

I loved the time loop episode and I really loved seeing the characters get fleshed out! I love the tiny bits of lovely mundane normality in the series too like aki just trying to live and do cooking and do the laundry which gets destroyed by denji and power turning up. poor fucking guy

Strange thought but now I’m wondering if people can be forcibly manipulated in order to deliberately increase the power of a devil? if you kidnapped 1,000 people and made them develop a severe phobia of spoons for example, would the spoon devil gain immense power. is that just how it works. can you merge devils persona style. what is the most contracts anyone has ever made, is there a world record?how do you stop ordinary people from making contracts?

If you can have devils as more abstract concepts could you end up with comic book villains or characters manifesting? memes? a situation where all popular media has to be very carefully controlled? how does consumerism and capitalism influence devils. I NEED THE LORE. have devils always existed or is this a recent phenomenon? if they’ve always existed then would older devils be stronger? ANCIENT SOCIETIES WITH DEVILS? dinosaur devil???

the christian imagery is interesting and I'm curious to see where it is going. especially that painting in the ending where makima is holding denji like mother mary holding jesus… interesting that all the graves are in western style too

if there’s an infinity devil is there gonna be a Death devil? contracts and devils they are so interesting to me. the devil hunters are SUCH assholes. the way denji and power are completely treated as tools and have no agency. the way aki is treated by pretty much everyone is ridiculous this guy can’t even eat his apples in hospital in peace. I would peel apples for him at his bedside. I LOVE aki. which is very typical of me I always fall for characters like him. I love characters doomed by the narrative and revenge driven. It’s terrifying and devastating but also morbidly hilarious seeing him battle with the depths of grief juxtaposed to the flippant attitude of everyone else who shrugs it off and can go back to laughing

I am also fascinated and in love with Makima. I have to know what her deal is. she can’t be human… I would listen to whatever she says and end up destroying the world for her <3 she is the girl manipulator of all time. THE BIT ON THE TRAIN AND THE HUMAN SACRIFICE SCENE… damn

Okay where was I going with this. So chainsaw man! it’s definitely not the usual kind of thing I’d watch, and I don’t think I’d have continued past the first two episodes if my friend hadn’t sat down and watched it with me. but I really am interested to see where it’s going? and kind of concerned now that I think about it. like if it is going to use any real world historical events, like wars? that’s probably my biggest fear, can't see that being done tactfully

BUT YEAH THE ANIMATION… was so good. MAPPA really is something else. and I love the openings and endings, I can’t believe every ending was different. insane anime. ultimately it’s a nightmare but I enjoyed it. might try to read the manga next so I can get some Answers
