AHAHA this is so kind :,) untitled document is best friends whenever (the time travel show)!!!!!! the fandom is so itty bitty that there has not been a fic posted on ao3 in seven months 😭

the plot is of the show is that cyd and shelby can time travel (aka “jump”), but only when they touch each other. by the end of the series, their friends barry and naldo gain the ability to time travel with them. so the plot of this fic is cyd and naldo realizing they can jump on their own and traveling to 2024 (the show ended in 2016) to their senior year of college to see what happens with their crushes (shelby and barry respectively)

“Well, why don’t you just jump forward and see what happens?” Naldo asks.

“Oh, no,” Cyd scoffs, “I’m not jump jacking her again.”

“You don’t have to jump jack— I’m sure Shelby wants to see your futures too.”

“Yeah, for entirely different reasons,” Cyd groans. “No matter what happens, one of us is going to get hurt, and then who knows how that’ll change the future.”

I rewatched "Best Friends Whenever" because I always wanted to know how it ended…

hahah… it's just another disney channel series… But.

I feel like this is soooo forced (I literally feel like someone is trying to convince me that they are just "friends")

and I'm sorry, I'm one of the people who believes that two characters can be best friends without anything romantic involved. But not this case. I don't know if it's because Shelby's character mentions that she was looking for what her daughter would look like with Cyd. That in one episode they use the word "girlfriend" (I know that wasn't Shelby but being THAT character they could have used another word, and they decided on exactly that.)

Also because there are other series like this where true friendship is reflected and you don't ship the characters, unless the story itself tries to build it, like 'I didn't do it!'

And I'm sorry, but I didn't feel any chemistry Naldo and Cyd. And Naldo had chemistry with Barry… if not… how do you explain that.

AND WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MARCI! THAT WAS BARRY'S FIRST LOVE! and I'm sorry but I don't know how to feel about daysi. She appeared so little that she didn't even interest me.

The first season was good. I understand why my 12-year-old self was entertained. The second… huh. Honestly, I think it was unnecessary. They invented a problem… strange… instead of… I don't know, continuing with the daily life of a normal teenager. Time traveler, obviously. But the truth is I don't know what they were thinking in that season, because they simply erased all the progress from the previous one.

I think there were better ways to do a second season, instead of putting daysi as the main problem character, it could have been multiple characters. After Cyd and Shelby altered space-time, or whatever it's called, cracks constantly appeared in many parts of the world, taking people out of their place, the two helped them, blah blah blah, they learned a valuable lesson, blah blah blah, they returned them to their home, and the end.

This was just an opinion, I liked reliving that nostalgic series.

And I think Landry Bender is still my crush…

i'm glad you had a nice time!! thanksgiving was mostly uneventful, but still good! now for the disney channel questions: so i know you're a huge fan of best friends whenever, and i'm not sure if you've been asked about this before, but had there been a third season is there anything in particular you would have liked to see in terms of themes, episodes or relationships in general? - gcwca secret santa

i haven't been asked this before!!! this is such a fun question!

i would have loved to see more of barry and naldo's dynamic, particularly as it pertained to them having the ability to time travel now. i would've also liked to see naldo and daisy being besties just bc i think they deserve it. in terms of episodes, i would've loved to see more episodes where the gang jumps to the future (perhaps as motivated by barry wanting to learn what new scientific discoveries can happen? i assume that the reason they didn't do a lot of the future ones is just bc. disney channel budget limitations etc but this is my dream s3). i would've loved to see if the gang helping daisy not marry sebastian had current day repercussions somehow? mostly i think i would've wanted to see the gang all time travelling together — i'd be interested in if the time travel powers work if it it's naldo and cyd or barry and shelby and etc — i imagine it wouldn't, but maybe an episode where they pair off into different duos to try this or to try and get closer and see if they can make the time travel work if they become better friends would be fun? i will also say that as someone who just felt entirely uninterested in the naldo/cyd romantic relationship dynamic i am glad we didn't get a s3 bc i didn't really want to see more of that — to me they read as gay man/lesbian besties. all of that being said i would have loved to see more of naldo's and barry's and cyd's lives and families — we never meet cyd's parents at all, even via time travel, even though we meet barry and naldo's dads in the past at one point. also iirc s2 confirmed that barry had a sister we never meet? i would've loved to meet her, that could've been fun.

this was kind of rambly and i am sure i will come up with a million things i also would've liked to see the second i publish this ask but c'est la vie one supposes. this was such a fun ask !!! if you were writing s3, what would you have wanted to add?

wizards of waverly place is objectively better than best friends whenever but best friends whenever is number one in my heart for a multitude of reasons including that one season one episode where they jump back to kindergarten and it affects their bodies so once they jump back they start aging backwards and once barry and naldo get the cure shelby goes back immediately but cyd doesn't because she was scared because she was growing up and it was all coming so fast and it was terrifying because that was a nice little episode when i was nine but the older i get the more it resonates
