Was sorting my saved posts on insta and fell down the rabbit hole of the 1964 Barbie Fan Club Magazine. Look at this art of Allan! The cover says he's Midge's "new boyfriend", but we all know better. That first paragraph (3rd image) is a dead giveaway lmao.

I found this really old barbie magazine that I had when I was a child and I genuinely thought that there was a story with a gay couple as protagonist

sadly it turns out that Ryan is just Alan's son because Alan is married to this woman named Midge and I was quite disappointed

Mattel designer Bill Greening (the talent behind such designs as the Haunted Beauty series and the 12 Days of Spring Barbie) has a relatively active Instagram presence on which he has shared a number of promotional pictures of Barbies, including limited run convention dolls and other convention updates. A few months ago he shared some pictures of old Barbie magazines from the 1960s.

I am fairly sure the "red swimsuit and matching jacket for the beach and swim parties" identified above is this particular Talking Ken.

From the very, very early days, Ken's job was Beach.

Originally retailing for 25 cents each, the early Barbie magazines have incredible style and although I'd love to get my hands on one, the resale prices are too pricy for me to rally think it's worth it.
