I can't stop cry laughing at the fact that Din just went full armor mode for his Mandalorian baptism and then proceeded to almost mcfucking drown.
Iconic. Nobody out here doing it like my main babygirl, Din Djarin.

*The Eucharist is the body of Christ under the appearances of bread and wine.
**God is bound to these sacraments, meaning he always gives grace through them when they are done, but he is not bound by these sacraments, meaning that God can do literally whatever he wants and can of course go around them and provide grace in other ways.
***7 sacraments, listed: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Confession, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony.
Feel free to add nuance in the tags or talk about why you find the teachings strange! Let me know if there's anything utterly baffling that I didn't include!!!
Also please remember to be respectful!!! Not everyone knows theology like you might!!!

Jinx and her Catholic symbolism means so much to me. St. Joan Of Arc, martyr and Saint, who led the French army to victory, mirrors what the role of Jinx will become in this upcoming season; perhaps she too, will become a martyr of sorts--or maybe a Saint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her baptism, which is the first rite Catholics take into entering the Church, she takes her first step in becoming Jinx. she washes away her Original Sin (in this instance, Powder) and becomes a Saint--Jinx.
Tumblr media
Her surgery scene could even be read as Catholic symbolism. she receives the Eucharist, the Body of Christ, in the form of Shimmer; Jinx is saved by a drug that gives her a second chance, just like what was done at the Last Supper when Jesus said: "This is my body."
Tumblr media
Her full Confirmation (another rite in the Catholic Church) is taking on the role of Jinx, and in accepting that role, she becomes a martyr; or if you want to go further, a Christ-like figure due to her near-death experience and subsequential raising from the dead.
Tumblr media
The crow, a traditional symbol of death, is replaced with doves, a symbol of hope. in killing her fear by killing the crow, she becomes a symbol herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silco was a horrible person and an even worse influence on her, but he was right about one thing: Jinx is perfect.

“At 7 in the morning, the first signs of premature birth occurred.
At 8 o'clock the distinguished young woman [Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna] took Holy Communion according to the rite of the Greek Church. Her confessor had demanded to see her, and so the Grand Duchess' desire for the ordinance was brought about in a natural way. According to the custom of the Greek religion, the sick woman asked not only her parents present but also her husband's forgiveness for any slights. This was so touching for the young gentleman, who was not used to this ecclesiastical form, that he knelt by the bed and also asked for forgiveness for any worries that he had caused her during the short time of their marriage.
An hour later she gave birth almost painlessly and unusually easily to a boy who screamed loudly and audibly, although he was only 25 weeks old. I went with the child and all members of the august family, except her father and mother, into the next room, where I wrapped him in warm cotton wool to await the baptism. All the members gradually approached the basket to see their sister's child . The prince [Friedrich Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel] also approached and seemed deeply touched with fatherly joy, which dwindled with each passing moment.”
A Protestant priest had been sent to perform the baptism. However, when he had not arrived after three quarters of an hour, and the weak spark of life threatened to go out at any moment, the fear arose in the entire circle of those present that the child might die without the sacrament of baptism. Someone, I think it was the Duke of Leuchtenberg, had opened the door of the sick room and saw the emperor kneeling beside the bed. No one dared to disturb this moment, and yet danger was imminent.
I handed over the care of the young prince to a very capable chambermaid, entered the mother's room and actually saw the emperor [Nicholas I] at her bedside, holding both of her hands in his in a half-kneeling position.
To get his attention I made a small noise, but he would not look up, and I was forced to wave. He immediately got up, came toward me, led me to the doorway and asked,
“What do you want?”
“The child is in danger of dying any minute; the clergyman has not come. Does Your Majesty wish to baptize your grandson yourself, lest he die without the ordinance?”
“Yes, yes. Certainly.”
The emperor immediately went into the next room and entered the circle of his family surrounding the basket with the child. When the bowl of water was given to him as ordered, he performed the baptism with a dignity and emotion that made the deepest impression on me. Everyone knelt around the great emperor, who was baptizing his youngest grandchild. Then, without another word, he left the room and returned to his daughter’s bedside.
After a good half hour the summoned clergyman finally appeared in full regalia, decorated with several medals. The child was barely alive; but he performed the baptism according to the regulations of the Protestant church.
Of these two baptisms, that of the grandfather of his grandson was certainly recorded in heaven.”
— Imperial physician Dr. Martin von Mandt on the premature birth of Prince Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel, the short-lived son of Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna of Russia.”

Even though grian was already chosen/accepted by the watchers, did he have to go through a type of ceremony or initiation to show everyone else he was now part of the group? (it made me think of what types of rituals or rites of passage they have, especially since you mentioned them being based on angels/Catholicism)
I've played around with the idea that Xelqua is his ~baptism name phphph
The Watchers had already kept an eye on him for awhile, the ~initiation was probably just when he agreed to leave his world behind. Tho they got him set up in his own room, new clothes, and introduced to whoever Watchers' family/friends, he got a lot of attention and it made him feel special.
Watchers assumingly have their own religious holidays, based around the universe/void, ancient Watchers treated as Saints. (something abt the hermits celebrating one of these, just culturally, not religiously, and grian doesn't wanna go)
During any celebration, they drink whatever is their equivalent of wine. Grian asks what it is, but She just says "Try it", Grian says it smells strong, is it alcohol ? She says "Try it" and she's grinning a little bit. (Truly a catholic child experience is taking a drink from your older family members and its alcohol and they thought it'd be funny.)
Growing wings is also a pretty big deal, have to show everyone those ! He gets many congratulations, but he was still a bit delirious from the pain and trauma of them growing in to rly indulge in anything.
Grian's also on a pretty strict schedule living in a convent, the amount of studying and training is a bit brutal.
Watchers also probably have a version of the sign of the cross they do, whether its something new or just the Evo sign with their hands, idk

i dont think i can be a catholic at least not at this part of my life (simone weil moment) but every year when i see / think abt people confirmed at easter vigil my entire body is wrecked with fomo and longing. is this god calling me to the church or what.
i have the exact same issue! i had a long talk with my mum about it on holy saturday- we watched the vatican solemn mass and saw eight adult catechists be baptized, and i did read to her something simone weil wrote that i return to often:
I owe you the truth, at the risk of shocking you, and it gives me the greatest pain to shock you. I love God, Christ, and the Catholic faith as much as it is possible for so miserably inadequate a creature to love them. I love the saints through their writings and what is told of their lives-apart from some whom it is impossible for me to love fully or to consider as saints. I love the six or seven Catholics of genuine spirituality whom chance has led me to meet in the course of my life. I love the Catholic liturgy, hymns, architecture, rites, and ceremonies. But I have not the slightest love for the Church in the strict sense of the word, apart from its relation to all these things that I do love. I am capable of sympathizing with those who have this love, but I do not feel it. I am well aware that all the saints felt it. But then they were nearly all born and brought up in the Church. Anyhow, one cannot make oneself love. All that I can say is that if such a love constitutes a condition of spiritual progress, which I am unaware of, or if it is part of my vocation, I desire that it may one day be granted to me.
it may be that you and i suffer from the same peculiarity, a love of God and not necessarily of the church. the church is a community of people who love God: you can love God without a church, and that does not invalidate your personal relationship with him at all, many people do benefit from a sense of fellowship and community. what do you find yourself yearning for when you see baptism and confirmation? for God, or for God in others? for God, or for the community of believers?

I’m starting in my new ministry today right before Mass ends. I’m now officially recognized by my diocese as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the Homebound. Ordinary ministers include bishops, priests, and deacons, who are ordained in the Catholic Church. My purpose as a laity is to help my very busy priest bring Jesus to the homebound, who are too sick to leave home to come to Mass. By their Baptismal rite, they deserve to receive Jesus too, because all of us make up the church, the bride of Christ. There are differences in beliefs and views on laity being extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, but I will participate in this with the greatest respect and reverence. Jesus Christ is truly present body, blood, soul, and divinity in the Eucharist.

AASIMAR IN JACKAL GULCH
In Jackal Gulch, aasimar are created. Members of the clergy of Pholtus each hope that during their baptism rite, they will be claimed and recognized with an Archangel's Blessing and become an aasimar. There are many theories about what qualifies one to be an aasimar, whether it is at the mere whims of each Archangel or whether they see their strengths within a mortal and give them the tools to further their prowess. Some parents try to mold their children in specific ways to fit the virtues and value of a specific archangel in hopes that their child will be baptized and blessed as an aasimar.   Aasimar that turn against their blessing, the path of Pholtus and his angels, and fall to sin become Apostates. Additionally, those who were once blessed by the fallen Zariel have become Apostates, those who were once blessed by the deceased Rachel have lost their blessings.
Ability Scores. Choose one of: (a) Choose any +2; choose any other +1 (b) Choose three different +1
Size. Small or Medium
Speed. 30 ft.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.
Celestial Resistance. You have resistance to radiant damage.
Archangel's Blessing. You have been blessed and chosen by a specific archangel and bear an aspect of their power. You choose Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as your spellcasting ability for your cantrip. You choose which ability when you select this lineage. Each blessing is accompanied by an awakened essence of their power you can draw out known as a Celestial Revelation, which you gain at 3rd level. You can use a bonus action to unleash the celestial energy within yourself, gaining the benefits of that revelation. Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. Once you transform using your revelation below, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. Choose one of the following blessings:
Blessing of Ananiel. You are blessed by the Angel of Calamity. You know the Lightning Lure cantrip. In addition, you have resistance to lightning damage.
Celestial Revelation. When you manifest your Celestial Revelation as a bonus action, a dust devil engulfs a 10 ft. radius around you. As a bonus action on your subsequent turns, you can force creatures within the tornado to make a Strength saving throw. the DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + the ability modifier you chose for your cantrip. On a failed save they are pushed 10 ft. away from you. Until the transformation ends, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra lightning damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra damage equals your proficiency bonus.
Blessing of Cadriel. You are blessed by the Angel of Valor. You know the Sword Burst cantrip. In addition, you can choose to gain proficiency with martial weapons or medium and heavy armor. If you have proficiency in both, you gain a fighting style from the Fighter class.
Celestial Revelation. When you manifest your Celestial Revelation as a bonus action, searing light temporarily radiates from your eyes and mouth. For the duration, you shed bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet, and at the end of each of your turns, each creature within 10 feet of you takes radiant damage equal to your proficiency bonus. Until the transformation ends, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra radiant damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra damage equals your proficiency bonus.

Celestial Revelation. When you manifest your Celestial Revelation as a bonus action, two luminous wings sprout from your back temporarily. Until the transformation ends, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, while transformed, as a reaction you can grant you or an ally within 10 ft. a bonus to an attack or saving throw equal to your proficiency modifier.
Blessing of Hadrien. You are blessed by the Angel of Patience. You know the Light cantrip. In addition, you learn Shield of Faith, and at 3rd level, you learn Arc of Light. You can cast each spell once per day without expending a spell slot.  You can also cast these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.
Celestial Revelation. When you manifest your Celestial Revelation as a bonus action, two luminous wings sprout from your back temporarily. Until the transformation ends, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed.
Blessing of Neriah. You know the Guidance cantrip. In addition, as an action, you can touch a creature and cause it to regain a number of hit points equal to your level. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Celestial Revelation. When you manifest your Celestial Revelation as a bonus action, you shed bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet. At the start of your turn, you and allies within 10 ft gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
Alternatively, some aasimar after turning their back on their faith become an Apostate, the setting's version of a Fallen Aasimar. Replace the Archangel's Blessing feature with the following:
Apostate's Burden. You know the Thaumaturgy cantrip. Your status creates both fear and respect depending on where you walk and who you are with. You have Proficiency in Intimidation and Persuasion. Additionally, your sense of conviction is unmatched. You have advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened.

Hello, friend. this is a genuine question of mine, if it is alright for you to answer. Am I still valid, as a Jew, even though I was forced into a Christian upbringing because of my adopted families being heavily right-wing conservatives? I feel so unlike of a Jew, even though my true parents were Jewish, and while they were alive, I always remembered celebrating that part of myself happily. Now I still remember my old past but when I have to dress up to go to church and wear the veil, I feel as if, just participating in such an activity makes me not a Jew anymore. My adoptive family is continuing to pressure me into a baptism (they say I'm already far behind) to officially confirm that I am not a Jew anymore.
But my question is: even after it all, am I as valid as the rest? Even if I have lost touch with my old self and forgotten the rites because of my adoptive family?
Anon, your situation is the very textbook definition of "Tinok Shenishba" (literally: a stolen baby). You were forced against your will into Christianity. You are Jewish. Even if your adoptive parents forcibly baptize you, you are still Jewish. Jewish legal texts discuss this situation at length, because your situation is unfortunately not uncommon throughout Jewish history. You will always be a Jew. If you want to reconnect with Judaism, you always have a place. Once a Jew, always a Jew.
It sounds like you're in a really controlling situation with your adoptive family, and I really hope you can get help.
Best of luck!

***Spoilers Ahead***
So I'm reading the Chant of Light, as one does and this might be prophesy of the events of Dreadwolf? This is from the the Canticle of Exaltations by the way, which I guess (to all my former and current Christans/bible knowers) is basically the Thedas equivalent of Revelations.
This section of the Canticle is specifically signs of the Maker's return, so that's cool ig
"Seven times seventy men of stone (Titans?) immense
Rose up from the earth like sleepers waking at the dawn,
Crossing the land with strides immeasurable,
And in the hollows of their footprints
Paradise was stamped, indelible. (The Rumbling Part 2, now with more Titans)
And I heard from the East (Par Vollen/Seheron?) a great cry
As men who were beasts (outdated and gross referrence to Qunari?) warred with their brothers,
Tooth and claw against blade and bow,
Until one could no longer be told from the other (Qun and Tal Vashoth?),
And cursed them and cursed their generations.
And those who slept, the ancient ones, (reference to Old Gods? Or maybe Evanuris) awoke,
For their dreams had been devoured
By a demon that prowled the Fade
As a wolf hunts a herd of deer.
Taking first the weakest and frailest of hopes,
And when there was nothing left,
Destroying the bright and bold
By subtlety and ambush and cruel arts.
The ninth (there are more? Anyone know ehat this is referring to?) sacred mountain (Temple of Sacred Ashes, also location of Breach) upon which rests
The mortal dust of Our Lady ascended
Whole into the heavens, to be given high honor
In the Realm of Dreams forever.
And around it, a chorus of spirits sang:
"Whatsoever passes through the fire (Holy Andrastian rite, essentially baptism which is practiced in the Chantry, so I wonder what this is actually referring to)
Is not lost, but made eternal;
As air can never be broken nor crushed,
The tempered soul is everlasting!"
(Don't know where else to put this, but in Origins, if you bring Oghren along during the Temple of Sacred Ashes quest, he essentially confirms that there is a large amount of Lyrium present in the Temple. Which (and this is speculation) could be the cause of the Ashes curative properties. Not to mention in the beginning Inquisition, Cassandra mentions that the mountains in the area are full of old mining complexes. And Varric also points out the Red Lyrium in the Temple. So there may, potentially be a corrupted titan beneath the temple?)
And I looked up and saw
The seven gates of the Black City shatter,
And darkness cloaked both realms."
(If you're one of those who also believes that the Old Gods are some sort of lock (seven "locks", seven gods) keeping the Evanuri at bay, this could be a reference to that.)
The previous prophesy appears to loosely be the events of Inquistion, excluding the part where Andraste herself rides forth and proclaims the return of the Maker. So they are possibly coming true, just not exactly as written.
After having read that, I can see why so many thought that the Inquisitor genuinely was a servant of Andraste, and that it actually was Andraste in the Fade instead of Divine Justinia. Would've been neat to hear that verse in game, maybe as a way to convince the Inquisitor that they are an agent of the Maker's will. I feel like it would've made some of the religious fervor surrounding the Inquisition make more sense.
