Decided to pontificate on the impending ban of Tiktok in the US, while many, many other data-harvesting and spying apps, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and all the other mainstream platforms, continue to endanger and exploit everyone. Moral of the story: mainstream corporate owned platforms will ALWAYS betray you--stop giving them unilateral power over your online existence, and self-host your content on decentralized platforms like Mastodon, Peertube, amd/or your own web server, THEN link to your content on the mainstream apps. You'll rest so much easier if you're not constantly living on the knife edge of potentially getting obliterated by a couple of algorithmic ones and zeroes, designed by misogynistic, transphobic, racist, patriarchal, capitalist tech bros!!

it's so amusing that when you're an author who is like any minority, you have this caveat where if your book gets banned, you kinda have to mentally acknowledge whether it was banned by Bruce, the one really bigoted guy who wastes everyone's time in florida. idk how bruce is doing. you don't need to learn who he is really which is why im not using his surname. but if you have a book out commercially, bruce has probably written "damaged souls" on a form about you. so there's a street cred element to all this like did people really have a vendetta against your work...? or was it just bruce again

It bothers me that women's topless nudity will probably never be desexualized. I've taken to not wearing a shirt at home because it's hot out and I think it's been an important step in working through the shame I feel around my chest. But it's so hard to shake the fear of being seen, even in complete privacy.

Please start buying and using physical media. CDs, cartridges, books, records, DVDs, everything. Streaming services are continually removing media and becoming more hostile, and after this election, tons of media are at risk of being outlawed entirely.

Dig out that old VHS or DVD player, get your old Wii system running, and collect that entire book series that you read as a kid. Your dad's old cassette full of divorced dad rock songs is probably lying around somewhere. If you have a favorite artist who posts their work online, buy their art book. Get something you can hold in your hands.

Use your local library if you can! They have all this and more! Most thrift shops have this stuff at an affordable price!

Plus, I can vouch that it's just more fun to have the physical copy.

If the government wanted to take this from you, they would have to come to you and rip it from your hands. Make it difficult for them to do so.

Drivers leaving home at a young age to pursue karting then ultimately F1 and some of them (esp non-European drivers) don't get to travel with parents or guardians- it's an accepted fact of motorsport. But then I remember that interview where Daniel said he was 17 and a million miles away from home and all he had was a copy of The Castle, an Australian movie, and he'd watch it incessantly beacuse he was afraid of losing his accent and there was no one around to talk to... reminds me of that one James Agee quote about clinging to home because in the absence of home the vastness of the world might mean we don't exist at all

See the reason why Wifies getting chunk banned hurt so much is because how you don’t even realize how much of a constant he’s become for Parrot. He’s always right behind him, helping solve puzzles and making jokes. It’s Parrot and Wifies. Them. And when they’re pitted against eachother it’s different and frightening, but it’s still them, they still have a plan to win, together.

But then suddenly it’s Wifies vs A Secret. Versus the thing Parrot wants so bad, and he’s already begun to take Wifies presence for granted. See Parrots fatal flaw is he wants knowledge, he need to know. And sure sometimes it may be for good, to protect the server, or just himself, but he craves the knowledge. And he knows himself if he doesn’t get what he wants to know now, he’ll regret it.

“It’s all yours” and Parrot does regret it, even before he knows the Secret, he regret it as he stares blankly at the telescope. And in a way, it’s sort of ironic that there’s no secret, because it symbolizes what Parrot has realized too late- there is no secret that would have been worth Wifies. And it’s poetic that there is no secret after all. Parrot essentially killed his best friend for nothing. Because it is Parrots fault as much as it is Spokes. Parrot told Wifies that the secret was worth more than him, Parrot told Wifies to sacrifice himself, and he knew he would do it. It is Parrots fault Wifies is gone.

In other news, this week a French publisher on his way to the London Book Fair was arrested by British counter-terrorist police to be questioned about his participation in protests in France.

A French publisher has been arrested on terror charges in London after being questioned by UK police about participating in anti-government protests in France.

Moret arrived at St Pancras [...] with his colleague Stella Magliani-Belkacem, the editorial director at the Paris-based publishing house, to be confronted by the two officers. [...] He was questioned for six hours and then arrested for alleged obstruction in refusing to disclose the passcodes to his phone and computer. [...] He was transferred to a police station in Islington, north London, where he remained in custody on Tuesday. He was later released on bail.

Éditions la Fabrique is known for publishing radical left authors. Moret also represents the French science fiction novelist Alain Damasio and had arranged more than 40 appointments at the London book fair. [...]

The publishing house (here’s their latest statement in French) and the publisher’s lawyer mention that the British police asked him “Do you support Emmanuel Macron? Did you attend protests against the pension reform?” and he was also asked to name the authors with anti-government views that his employer has published. They add, “Asking the representative of a publishing house, in the framework of counter-terrorism, about the opinions of his authors, is pushing even further the logic of political censorship and repression of dissenting thought. In a context of social protests and authoritarian escalation on the part of the French government, this aspect [of the questioning] is chilling.”

Being an accomplice to thoughtcrime by publishing dissident authors gets you treated like an international terrorist now... The publisher’s lawyer suggests that French authorities asked the UK to help them get their hands on the publisher’s contacts in the radical left sphere. But on the face of it, we’ve got: Exercise your right to protest your government in France -> get arrested by counter-terrorist UK police in London. That’s literally the reason he was given for being greeted by police at the train station...

Kinda crazy how these two games, both published by Valve, only have 2 years between them yet one has been receiving patch updates pretty consistently while the other was abandoned and ignored when it and its players had to deal with malicious aimbots spamming illegal content and saying the most horrific shit on its official servers. Almost like the age of a game is absolutely no excuse to let your official public game servers be used in such a way for YEARS. Even though L4D2’s updates are small, it’s still getting upkeep better than TF2.

There is no way Valve wasn’t aware of this. There’s no way they weren’t aware of what’s probably their most well known iconic multiplayer game being in that state. Even if the bots never come back, do NOT forget how Valve facilitated that horrendous shit being done on their official servers by acting oblivious and lying to the people who genuinely love TF2 and play it. Make sure the bots stay gone. You SHOULD be mad at Valve for letting this happen and there should be hell raised if the bots return. Don’t let Valve get away with it again. Don’t let any game company get away with allowing bots to overrun their game and endanger the players. It is completely unacceptable and negligent.

(Note: no hate to L4D2, I am a fan of it. I just couldn’t help but notice this with the patch updates)
