Look. I'm not just the eldest of my siblings. I'm the eldest cousin. Pokemon became a thing at the exact right time to entrance my brothers and it has hit basically every cousin on the way down, later followed by many niephs.
If you do not want to be lectured at by little kids about which pokemon is best, you pick a favorite fast and stick with it. Even if you know nothing about it. That pokemon is now the best in the world and your opinion is completely unwavering.
This is the only way to survive.
If so, what is it?

Hit after hit after hit
You watched your husband get pummeled to the ground multiple times against the Ravens from the comfort of your bed at your home in Cincinnati and it seemed as if there was no end in sight. Multiple people had asked if you wanted to watch the game with them, but you quickly decided against it. You would rather be at home by yourself and not be at some random bar hearing people drunk off their asses talking about your husband if he were to lose.
A fight almost ensued between you and another fan during Joe’s second season with the Bengals and from that point on, you knew it wasn’t even worth your time. You knew Joe was an amazing quarterback and his stats proved it despite what people may say about him.
The game was not moving in the direction that you originally thought, but despite this you still held onto hope since the score was so close.
Joe had confessed to you earlier in the week how anxious and nervous he was for this game and it was to be expected. They were playing in Baltimore on their turf, but seeing how the Ravens caused them an upset at home, it would only be right if the Bengals did the same thing.
Joe was always focused during the season, but it went to a different level when he was playing any team within the same division as the Bengals were.
When the Ravens had gotten the ball back, the camera suddenly cut to the Bengals sideline and you could see Joe wincing in pain as he was holding the left side of his body, Silently cursing to yourself before letting out a sigh, the wheels in your head began to turn and immediately thought the worst.
This time last year as he was playing the Ravens, he sustained his wrist injury that put him out for the rest of the season and the last thing you wanted was for him to go through that all over again. You saw the way it bothered him deep down, even though he thought he was being good at putting up a front for you.
Being married for a total of four years, you could see right through his bullshit and could immediately tell when something was off with him.
You took a sip of your strawberry flavored Truly as you saw Joe throw to Ja’Marr and end up with a touchdown and quickly placed it back down on the table in order to celebrate.
But now, it was time for your nerves to be turned up to another level because you saw them wanting to go for a two point conversion.
“You cannot be fucking serious right now.” You quietly said out loud, even though there was no one in the room but you.
During the play, someone on the Ravens defense had pulled Joe’s face mask and you were yelling at the television seeing as how they never even called it.
Suddenly, your phone rang next to you and you debated on whether you should answer it until you saw that it was your cousin Yalisa. Clicking accept, the first thing you heard was her yelling.
“Y/N! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON IN THIS GAME?! DO YOU SEE HOW MANY CALLS THEY MISSED?! And not them beating your husband like he stole something.”
“I’m so over this, I don’t even know anymore. It seems like they are personally working against them. Did you see him grab Joe’s face mask?”
“Yes! And that’s why I called you! Are the refs blind?!”
“Um, the only names I’ve heard all night are Joe and Ja’marr. It doesn’t seem like anyone else showed up to play today.”
“See? That’s why Joe is as ripped as he is now because he’s carrying this team on his fucking back!”
“And he keeps wincing, so I’m concerned because he has yet to seek medical attention. He just keeps going back in and I can tell that something is wrong with him.” You quietly said and tried to take a deep breath to help ground you from the uneasy feeling that was creeping in.
“I guess he sees it as he has to go back in because who the fuck else is going to? They are seriously pissing me off. Is this the week that Zac gets fired?” She asked and you immediately stifled a laugh.
“As much as I would like that to become a reality, a lot more things need to change beside that one.”
It was one in the morning when your phone rang alerting you that you had a facetime call from your husband and you immediately answered.
The two of you stared at each other as you noticed Joe was laying down. In order to get more comfortable, he adjusted himself and you once again saw him wince. But before you could say anything about it, you heard his voice.
“I didn’t wake you up did I?” He asked and you simply shook your head no.
“No, and you know I always wait for you to call me before I go to sleep. I have to hear your voice one way or another.”
“And hearing your voice has to be my favorite thing in the world. I just can’t wait until tomorrow when I actually get to hold you.”
“I can’t wait for that either and I am going to fix all your favorite comfort foods and we’ll eat ourselves into a food coma to get through this.” You replied as you brought the comforter higher up your body since you were getting cold.
“While watching rom coms of course.”
“A man that knows a way to my heart.” You told him and he gave you a small smile.
It was quiet for a few seconds and then you spoke up again.
“Baby?”
“Yes?”
“I saw you wincing during the game. I don’t like when you wince.”
“I’m okay, really. It’s not a big deal.”
“Joey, don’t give me that. You got hit multiple times. If something happened then…”
“I promise that I’m okay, just a little sore. I already took the motrin that you slipped in my bag for me earlier.”
“Well someone has to do it seeing as you always forget.”
“True, and I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Stop! Stop being so cute when you’re so far away and I can’t kiss you until you get back, it’s not fair.” You whined and Joe let out a small laugh.
“You can have all the kisses you want once you see me. Promise.”
“Joey? How are you and do not under any circumstances bullshit me right now because I will be on the first flight to Baltimore if you do.”
The deep sigh he let out before giving you a verbal answer was telling.
“Frustrated.”
“Go on.”
“It seems like there is a disconnect somewhere and I can’t put my finger on it.”
“Cough your coach Zac Taylor cough.”
“Well, that and there is something else. Just haven’t quite figured it out yet.”
“Can I be honest? You are amazing in your own right and even though I know that you already know this, Joey the last thing I ever want to happen is for you to in lack of better words waste your career for an organization that doesn’t quite seem like they value or care about you. Like, my husband is the shit and I’m not being biased. You are one of the best, if not the best, okay now I’m being biased. But, you’re amazing and I just want so much better for you. Do you know how much it hurts to see you so upset every week that you lose knowing that you show up every time for your team and give 100% while others don’t?”
Hearing the front door open from you and Joe’s shared office as you were working on your laptop, you immediately hopped up and ran to the foyer to greet him.
As soon as he spotted you, his bag was thrown to the side as he opened up his arms to embrace you as he placed several kisses on your lips.
When you did bring him in for a hug, once again you saw him wince.
“Joseph….”
“No, stop. I’m fine.”
“Hmm, pull up your shirt.”
“Damn, you want me to fuck you already? I was thinking…” Joe started to say, but you cut him off.
“No! Well yes, but not yet! Lift it.”
“But…”
“NOW.”
Once he did, you saw a black, purple, and blue bruise in the area where his ribs were on the left side and immediately gasped.
“BABY!”
“I’m fine, just a little bruised. I don’t want you to worry yourself.” He told you as he put his shirt back down and grabbed your hand as he kissed the back of it.
“A LITTLE bruise? It literally takes up a very good portion of your torso. And how can I not worry? My husband is a professional football player. Worrying is ingrained in my brain now. It got ingrained when I met you at LSU so stop.”
“Would it make you feel better that I got checked out before we got on our flight to come back home because it was bothering me when I woke up?”
“Yes. Kind of. But still!"
“And I’m fine. I promise like I said, and you're so cute when you worry about me."
"Not cute, I get flustered and pray nothing bad happens to you."
Crossing your arms, you nodded your head as Joe uncrossed them and leaned down to kiss you.
"Nothing is going to happen, and I'm going to need you to relax for me. Now that we got that out of the way, I’m also going to need my wife to lose her clothes.”

Summary: After another tough loss in Week 5 to the Baltimore Ravens, Joe wants nothing more than to come home to you.
Pairings: Joe Burrow x gf!reader
Warnings: none
Note: Hi! This is my first time writing in a while so this may be a little rough. After the loss yesterday I want nothing more than to hold this man.
Word Count: 890
Check out my Masterlist here!
You were on the edge of your seat watching from home as each team was trading touchdowns back and forth for the entire game, sending the game into overtime. Everything was looking good, up until Evan went for the kick, the ball getting tripped up in the process, completely missing the posts. You exhaled a breath you didn’t realize you were holding in.
You saw the camera flash to Joe, hanging his head and a look of defeat on his face. You could feel his disappointment from where you were standing in your shared living room, knowing he needed this win more than the last. The past few weeks have been tough on him, the tension spilling into your dynamic together at home. Last week’s win was a great lift in spirits, but Joe still had his head down maintaining his focus to strive for more.
When Joe came on for his post-game interview, you knew it was going to be a tough watch. You could see the pain in his feature as he was being asked question after question from the reporters, looking exhausted trying to hold his composure. One in particular asked about each game having slim point differences and how that would translate to the end of the season.
“We’re not a championship level team right now, we’re not. I’d like to think that you know, we’ll come back and improve throughout the season to get to that point, but right now we’re not and we have to get better” Joe answered, his voice showing his frustration and disappointment.
It absolutely broke your heart to hear him talk about himself the way that he was, bearing the fullness of the loss on his shoulders. You were both nervous and excited for him to come home. Wanting nothing more than to hold him close, but you knew the type of mood he would most likely be in.
Your phone pinged, the familiar sound of Joe’s text tone ringing through the silence.
On my way, I need you
The short message an indicator that after weeks of stress and struggles, he was seeking out your comfort. You typed out a quick reply and got to work before Joe got home. You spent the little time you had picking things up and getting dinner ready, whipping up his favorite comfort food.
About 30 minutes later, you heard the garage open and shut, followed by Joe shuffling in through the door. He kicked off his shoes with his head hung low. When he looked up, locking his sights on you, you could tell tears were welling up in his eyes, trying so hard to hold his composure.
He took a few steps into the kitchen, the pain in his features becoming more prominent the more distance he closed between you too. You opened up your arms and he fell into your embrace, the dam holding back everything from the past few weeks of losses pouring out like a flood gate.
The two of you just stood there in the kitchen for a while letting time pass, slowing rocking Joe back and forth while he cried in your arms. Once the cries became sniffles, Joe pulled back and look at you with red eyes and tear-stained cheeks. You moved your arms from around him, bringing your hands to caress his cheeks, wiping away any remains of tears.
“If only I had just done better and-“ you cut him off, not letting him bring himself down any further.
“You did everything you absolutely could have Joey. You put your entire soul onto that field and you know it”.
Joe sighed and rested his forehead against your shoulder leaning down to reach you, letting his hands fall and rest lazily on your lower back.
“It’s just been so hard recently, it feels like whatever I’m doing isn’t enough and everyone is expecting me to do it all” Joe mumbled into your neck.
Your hands went to his hair, fingers massaging his scalp and tangling in the ends at the nape of his neck.
“I want you to know that you are enough and that I know you’re trying your hardest, your fans know, and they only want to see you succeed. Reporters are gonna try their best to get the juiciest details from others defeat”.
You could see the tension begin to leave his body as he let his shoulders, lifting his eyes to meet yours. Joe scooped you up, placing you on the nearest countertop so you could be more level with one another.
“Thank you for always being there for me and being rock when I can’t for myself”. Joe said giving you a warm smile as he tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear.
“I’ll always be your biggest supporter and cheerleader no matter what, it’s us against the world bug. I got your favorite ready for you on the stove. Why don’t we settle in on the couch and eat hm? I bet you’re hungry”.
“Starving, thank you, baby. Speaking of cheerleader, we should get you one of those uniforms sometime” Joe smirked, raising his eyebrows.
“There’s the Joey I know, I bet we could work something out” you laugh playing along, pulling him in for another hug. You were someone he could come home to always.
Thank you so much for reading, please send in any requests or comments. I hope you enjoyed!

the fact that nora sakavic only made up some of the teams in aftg makes me laugh so much because what do you mean the usc trojans came to my college to play a game and i watched them. even the ravens - sure they're called the edgar allan ravens, but the baltimore ravens are a real team and the fact that it's baltimore + ravens makes me laugh - i see people walking around wearing team sweatshirts and all i can think about is aftg

can never wrap my head around how kevin and riko managed to play on three teams (EAU ravens, baltimore wildcats and US court) whilst also following the 16 hour ravens schedule AND going to classes. cause the way the 16 hour days work means ‘night-time’ in the nest would not be aligned with real night time so what are they supposed to do when the schedule says they should be sleeping but they’re actually supposed to be at practice in baltimore (and they have to travel to baltimore from west virginia?? i have no idea how long that would take but they’d have to cross state lines for that so??) or the schedule says they should be doing whatever but they’re actually supposed to be playing a game for court. like when the hell are they sleeping?? eating??
i feel suspension of belief is required but ultimately it shows how tetsuji really was not setting the two of them up for a long and successful career - it seems he mostly wanted to set himself up for success. cause once kevin and riko went pro they’d have started to burn out and crash, and tetsuji would have been able to spin it so that their success seems dependent on him. like, look what they were achieving when i was the one coaching them, they managed three teams and college and were still the best in the country. without me, they’re nothing.
i’m not gonna talk about how tetsuji’s mentality mirrors the mentality of late stage capitalism but i could i really could but i won’t
it would end up with their early success reflecting well on tetsuji, and their later failures reflecting badly on themselves. and since i’m assuming there was no agreement that tetsuji would take any of their earnings post-ravens, tetsuji would no longer benefit from their success after they graduate, beyond how their reputations and the reputation of the ravens reflects on him. and if he can spin it that it was the him that gave them their success, more people - exy players, the media etc - will vie for his attention, endorsing him financially and applying to the ravens, becoming more willing to abide by his control in an attempt to reach the success kevin and riko did during their time with tetsuji.
personally though i don’t think this operation would last, because there’s only so many star players that tetsuji can create, and if they all wash up less than five years after graduation eventually people are gonna become suspicious

Omg I’ve figured it out. IVE FIGUREDSHIT OUT
So you know the whole shebang with the new PSU striker being the son of a murderer?? And how everyone was so surprised and it was a whole thing
Yeah so the Foxes knew all along
They HAD to. Why would they go through such lengths to keep their new striker a secret at the beginning? Why else would they keep Wesninski on their line if they hadn’t already become used to the idea of him being a gangster
And here comes the really wild thing: my theory is that the Foxes are gangsters themselves. I mean, no one wants the son of a murderer on their line! Why would they?! My theory is that Day saw ‘Josten’ and knew him or smth and decided that he would have great contacts to other gangs and that was mainly why they signed him because he had very shitty stats and I mean he played okay ig but it seems weird that Day only recruited ‘Josten’ for his “potential” and even Wymack didn’t put a stop to it
Which brings me to my next point in that the Ravens are also a gang. That is how Day knew of Wesninski, because he had met/heard of him while he was with the Ravens who dabbled with Wesninski’s fathers gang AND maybe maybe because Wesninski SR was located in Baltimore, he had also heard of Wesninski JR while he played as a pro in Baltimore.
Why would he hear of him while playing with the pro ext team you ask? Well, dear, because exy is a front to a whole gang system in and of itself
It’s the exy-gang syndicate or smth. Essentially, all exy teams at least in the USA bc idk much abt the ones outside of USA, are in actuality gangs. The teams are just fronts/a way of income for a larger group of gangsters.
And you know those exchanges they do? That’s how they try to settle peace between them. Wesninski mouthed off Riko in public, which was an insult to the gang and would perhaps create a whole conflict between the two, start of it is already evidenced by Seth dying (suspicious considering what Wesninski said in the interview) and the loss of the goalkeeper, so the Foxes sent Neil to the Ravens so they wouldn’t lose more players to settle the peace between the two.
And i bet that Wymack had found out abt Kevin being his son before Kevin came back and demanded him to come tintje foxes or there would’ve been war and the ravens obeyed but they crippled Kevin in the hope that the Foxes wouldn’t get anything out of him
And now with the ravens declining other gangs likely want to take advantage of that so they keep killing the experienced ravens and the Trojans even demanded for Jean Moreau or they too would start killing more Ravens
.

Seriously, how are those FBI agents doing in that Baltimore hotel for the David Wesninski AU? They signed up for none of this, yet here they are, dealing with the craziest family drama any of them have ever witnessed. Honestly, their faces when it gets confirmed that Wymack is the identical twin of this serial killer must be priceless
The first thing you need to understand about fbi ops is, you don't just write those up on a whim. Theres investigations and plans and preparations. They were prepared for the Hatfords to push the agreed boundaries and kill against orders. That's why they were contacted in the first place. They were prepared for the cleanup, and the inquiries, and to throw the Hatfords under the bus as an excuse to begin what was sure to be a years-long investigation into Nathan Wesninski's network.
The second thing you need to understand about law enforcement operations is that you're either going shit shit shit shit shit when things are going according to plan and fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck when they aren't.
So, on the whole? It was a shitty night. The whole thing got pushed back by like two hours because of an alleged break in, and then by three more hours after a fight with op command on how much can they look over the police's shoulder without tipping their hand. And then it all goes down, and there's corpses everywhere, and it's all gone to shit...
And then Junior is on the front lawn.
Which, first of all, how are you not dead? Rhetorical question, clearly Nathan tried. Second, no seriously, how are you not dead. The fuck you mean it's a secret bitch I will [redacted]-
But it's fine. It's fine. Actually, hold on, this is great. They get to skip years of investigation all it costs is some witness protection. The kid seems like a real shithead but once they get him talking...
And then Towns says "We gotta talk about his team."
Oh right, them. "Once they calm down we'll give them a basic rundown of what's happening and send them home. Considering what they said so far it doesn't sound like they know much."
But Towns shakes his head. "You don't know who they are, do you?" Browning raises a brow. "Palmetto State Foxes?" Nope. "Edgar Allen. The ravens." Nope. "Kevin Day?"
That does sound familiar, but Browning knows he doesn't get the points for that. "Sure, one of the other players, no?" He never cared for exy, personally, and while he gets that people get excited about college sports he's always believed in some healthy iconoclasm. He shakes his head.
Towns grumbles. Then out of nowhere, he says, "Call Suzie."
"What?"
"Call her. Right now. Put her on speaker."
She should be at lunch, so Browning obliges, but he really doesn't see what his teenage daughter has to do with...
Click. Suzie's high, confident voice. "Daddy?"
"Hey Suzie, it's Freddie, your dad's pal from work," Towns says.
"Oh. Um. Hey?" Suzie sounds nervous suddenly. "Is my dad okay?"
They both suddenly realize what this call must look like, especially after Browning hadn't come home last night, and they both rush to reassure her that he's fine. "We've just had a long night," he reassures her. "No, I'm just calling because...hey Freddie, why am I calling?"
It's Towns' turn to raise an eyebrow, as if to say watch this. "Nah, I was just wanted a reminder, what's your husband's name again?"
Silence. A quick, sharp inhale, and in his mind's eye Browning can see his daughter's eyes focus like an eagles. "Well, first of all, it's future husband, because daddy says that the law says I have to be 18 to get married..."
Ohhhhh.
Fuck.
"But his name is Kevin Day. He's the world's best exy player, even after he had an accident last year. A lot of people abandoned him but I'm never gonna because when a mom and a dad love each other very much..."
A thousand dinner conversations run through Browning's head line an electric current as he opens his phone browser and searches the name. The results look nothing like the bruised shell of a man his colleagues have stuck in a hotel room, but they look like every poster on Suzie's wall. A terrible, terrible thought strikes him. "What about his friend. The, um, the short one."
The response is automatic. "Neil is cute too I guess. There aren't as many good posters of him, but Jessica from biology did her binder from shots she printed from youtube. Her dad yelled at her for wasting the ink."
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.
