Daniel Kaplan at Awful Announcing:
After 20 hard, contentious months in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Diamond Sports and its 16 regional sports channels will come out intact after a federal judge approved this morning the plan to re-emerge as a slimmed down and nearly debt-free company. The once high stakes hearing today to approve or reject the plan lost its tension when MLB dropped its objections, as three teams–the Braves, Angels and Tigers–inked deals with within the last 24 hours.  [...]
The new FanDuel Sports Network will have 16 RSNs with a total of 13 NBA teams, eight NHL squads and six MLB ones. That is down from the pre-Chapter 11 figures of 19 RSNs and more than 40 NBA, NHL and MLB teams. But a big change is Diamond will have digital rights for all the teams moving forward, which will be available to consumers through Amazon. Here is the current list of teams that will see its games air on FanDuel Sports Network after the company has successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy:
NBA: Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic and San Antonio Spurs.
NHL: Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning.
MLB: Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays.
[...] A key component of the Chapter 11 plan was reducing the fees paid to sports teams, which had benefited for years from the subscriber rich pay-TV universe. Those fees were no longer sustainable in the world in which subscribers were fleeing cable and satellite. According to Diamond’s financial projections, payments to sports teams will decline from $1.5 billion this year to $953 million next year, and $982 million by 2027.
Diamond Sports Group, who own the recently renamed FanDuel Sports Networks, climbs out of bankruptcy after 20 long months of hearings. DSG was nearly dead, but has resurrected anew with an Amazon Prime deal added on.

Comcast blacks out 15 regional sports networks in contract dispute with distributor
Comcast and Bally Sports are in a big disagreement that’s affecting the TV channels showing sports games. Comcast has decided to stop showing 15 regional sports networks from Bally Sports. This means that people who have Comcast won’t be able to watch games from 12 Major League Baseball teams in nine states.
The company that owns the Bally Sports networks, Diamond Sports Group, is not happy about this. They say Comcast is not willing to talk and find a solution. Comcast, on the other hand, says Diamond didn’t agree to some of their offers to solve the problem. They say Diamond could have just kept their existing agreement with Comcast for another year, but they chose not to. So, Comcast had no choice but to stop showing the sports channels.
Comcast says they will give their customers some money back for not being able to watch the sports games. They plan to give them monthly credits of $8 to $10.
Both companies are not saying much more than what’s in their prepared statements.

David Satin at The Streamable:
Diamond Sports Group appears poised to grant one of Major League Baseball’s fondest wishes. MLB has been adamant that it needs more clarity from Diamond regarding plans to continue broadcasting baseball clubs in the 2025 season and beyond, and on Wednesday that clarity was granted. A new report indicates that Diamond has informed the court in which its bankruptcy proceedings are playing out that it intends to drop all MLB contracts but one in its attempts to reorganize and emerge from Chapter 11 protections.
The news that Diamond was willing to drop its MLB contracts was first broken by Sportico reporter Anthony Crupi, who posted on X (the social media site formerly called Twitter) that the broadcaster had declared its intentions to move on from most MLB clubs in bankruptcy court. It means that, presumably starting in 2025 Bally Sports-branded regional sports networks will no longer carry teams like the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals. The only team that will be retained by Diamond is the Atlanta Braves, who play on Bally Sports South and Bally Sports Southeast. The team does not play on the Bally Sports streaming service Bally Sports+. The news that Bally Sports channels will no longer carry their partner MLB teams is likely a source of great relief to baseball officials. In early September, MLB attorney James Bromley said that the league reserved the right to object to Diamond’s bankruptcy reorganization plan if it didn’t get clarity on the company’s intentions for 2025 and beyond soon.
A nuclear bomb has been dropped in the RSN world, as Diamond Sports Group will drop all MLB contracts other than the Braves. DSG could get a few of the dropped contracts back at lower rates.
As for the Cardinals, they are likely headed to a DTC model, per The Athletic's Katie Woo.
