Super Famicom - Rise of the Robots
Title: Rise of the Robots / ă©ă€ăș ăȘă 㶠ăăăă
Developer: Mirage Technologies (Multimedia) Ltd. UK / Instinct Design / Data Design Interactive Ltd.
Publisher: T&E SOFT
Release date: 22 December 1994
Catalogue Code: SHVC-AROJ-JPN
Genre: 2D Cybernetic Fighting
No. of Players: 1-2
The story involves a computer virus that has infected the robots of a large mega-corporation. Many of these robots are top-secret military projects that pose a serious threat to the populace's safety, so a highly advanced prototype Cyborg combat unit is deployed to tackle the threat and to take the robots offline. The game itself is a straightforward round-based, one-on-one beat 'em up that involves the player tackling increasingly difficult robot adversaries, all before a final showdown with the Supervisor, a shameless rip-off of the T-1000 from Terminator 2.
To call this a beat 'em up is to give the game credentials it really does not deserve. The game features a ridiculously tiny set of moves (little more than a punch and kick) and some of the worst AI ever to grace a fighting game. The key to winning is to find an attack pattern than works against each robot and to repeat it ad infinitum, until the enemy is defeated. Any attempt to deviate from the attack pattern will see you beaten into submission quickly and decisively. For one thing, the graphics are incredible for the Super Famicom. The game even has frigging FMVs. The sound is also amazing for the system, I would listen to this stuff on my PSP. That's all I like, though......
As soon as you start the first round, the game instantly rockets downward. The first problem I noticed is the pathetic A.I. you can win the ENTIRE game by pressing the medium kick button. I just gave the most useful tactic. NO JOKE. The animation is as stiff as a wooden board. The Multiplayer is best described as unplayable, because the characters are so unbelievably unbalanced, and you can only play as the blue guy who beats the drums. It's tedious as ALL HELL.
Leading up to the game's release, the video game press had gone into something of a frenzy as Mirage (the original developers) promised gamers that this would be a revolutionary fighting game featuring state of the art AI, never-before-seen graphics and an audio score by Brian May. The PC version did at least feature some relatively high resolution (for the time) pre-rendered 3D graphics, but the core game was terrible. With lower screen resolution and limited storage capacity, the graphics look considerably worse in this version. The cut-scenes are still present, but are just a couple of seconds long and look rubbish.
The Super Famicom version (this was the only version released in Japan to my knowledge) does at least attempt to correct some of the shortcomings of the other versions. For example, this is the only version where it's possible to jump over your opponent and have characters change the direction they're facing. There's also parallax scrolling in the game's backdrops, and I suppose the character movement and animation is quite smooth. None of this, however, means that the game is any fun to play; it isn't! Rise of the Robots is just a rubbish game, pure and simple. This is a game to be forever scorned with derision and featuring prominently in any top ten "worst games of all time" listings. This is a shining example of what polish can do to human minds, I didn't buy the game when it came out, because I could see the warning signs a mile away. (Over hype, people.) This proves that graphics don't make the game.

the city of promise
Promise rises above the city in Victor Burginâs Some Cities. Much like the smoke coming out of the chimneys of Burginâs childhood in Sheffield, the fog enveloping the city of Grenoble that was once Burginâs home, or the Tokyo blossoms âpiped into the Shibuya branch of the Seibu department in the form of ambient videoâ (150) and captured by Burgin in his 40s, the nebulous promise is brought from the suburbs to the center of our attention in this elegant photonovel.
The more I look at the city of Burginâs making, the more elusive THE CITY becomes and the more Some Cities come to the fore. Never one monolithic city, always cities, plural. Never a totality but always a facet, a side, an aside. Constantly dividing up, fragmenting, revealing new lines of flight and oblique pathways of potential exploration â invisible cities Ă la Calvino. Directing us elsewhere, tempting day and night with its promises of the real â this promise land of absolute plenum and reality as is â and jouissance, of course, sweet jouissance, this ecstasy of complete self-actualisation. The promise is always here, palpable in every nook and cranny of Some Cities. But from the very beginning, we know all too well that this promise cannot be fulfilled. The enigmatic gradiva, the urban temptress immortalised on the cover, is a symbol of this impossibility. She torments us with the within-reach-ness of the dream while perpetually receding into the distance.Â
What Burgin achieves with this book is nothing short of extraordinary. Somehow, in just a few dozen pieces of text and black-and-white photos, the artist converts the city into a porous and highly reflective structure for one to dream through and discover themselves anew, over and over again. It is a highly masterful balancing act that requires a phototextual language that is both highly poetic and incredibly precise. We see parks and plazas, boutiques and boulevards, museums and masoleums... All real! All here! All available to the gaze! And yet, as soon as it encounters the soft blur of the photo grain, the poses and gestures struck mid-flanerie decades ago, the shop windows and living rooms drowning in their sensual, scintillating, starry-sky black, the gaze grows diffuse and turns itself towards the viewer.Â
And then there are words. Short units of carefully constructed sentences bringing us with utmost precision these very same parks and plazas, boutiques and boulevards, museums and masoleums â that millions before have lived their lives in, that Shklovsky, Benjamin, and Baudelaire have used to sustain their dream, and that Burgin himself constantly explored and photographed. All of a sudden, the apparently fixed fact of history â amplified by the image, the veridical technology par excellence â blossoms rich with all the personal implications of a story. We find ourselves inside a highly textured city mirage. Always in flux, always the product of dream, drive, and desire.Â
Floating as it is amid the immaculate white of the bookâs layout, Burginâs city offers no simple answers to the questions of identity, representation, or city life. What it does offer is this space-time of a dream, this structure to return to every now and then, become more intimate with, linger a while, notice yourself noticingâŠÂ
Cities new to us are full of promise. Unlike promises we make to each other, the promise of the city can never be broken. But like the promise we hold for each other, neither can it be fulfilled.
Burgin, Victor. Some Cities. Reaktion Books Ltd, 1996.

You Have Abandoned Nigerians Trained To Build Satellite â Obasanjo Tells Buhari
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has blamed governmentâs policy somersault in the last 15 years for Nigeriaâs inability to produce its own satellite.Obasanjo stated that without committed efforts and a custom blueprint, advancement in the countryâs technological drive would continue to be a mirage. The former Head of State spoke at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun capital, at a meeting with the management of Algorism Ltd. Obasanjo recalled how his administration, between 1999 and 2007, worked towards gathering scores of local engineers to build a satellite. The retired General disclosed that the then government got the Chinese to train 120 Nigerians on how to build satellites after an agreement. The plan was China will build the first satellite, build the second, while tutoring Nigerians who will later build the third, Obasanjo said. âBut the 120 Nigerians were nowhere to be found again; they were not dead,â he told his guests. âThe government that came after us could not understand and that is part of the misfortune of Nigeria. I met the Nigerians when I later went to China,â he said. Obasanjo assured he would continue to mentor and be available to offer guidance as long as he is capable, healthy, and fit to play squash daily. The Owu High Chief added that his head and âstomach levelâ are âstill okayâ, while early morning walk confirms his legs are in good condition as well. Read the full article

The fastest  CitroĂ«n SM in the world (and its amazing trailer).Â
In 1972, Jerry Hathaway was a technician at the Irv White Buick dealership in Los Angeles when they added Citroën distribution in the city, then the DS and SM. Jerry fell in love with French car styling and technology and began sourcing parts, eventually opening SM World Ltd., backed by Citroën, in 1976. From that point on, Hathaway was the undisputed leader for Citroën SM parts, restoration and repair. In the USA. One of his clients, Jon McKibben, an experienced racer, mentioned to Hathaway that the SM would be an ideal platform for speed record racing due to its incredibly aerodynamic shape. Shortly thereafter, an SM that was scheduled to become a spare part became a racing car. The SM was treated to an incredible restoration and turned into an impeccably prepared speed record hunter. Initially fitted with a naturally aspirated 250-horsepower 3.0-liter, it reached 139.7 mph (about 220 km/h) on its first outing at El Mirage and then 151.2 (243 km/h) at Bonneville in 1979. Shortly thereafter the SM received two AiResearch turbochargers that gave the Maserati engine a new boost and the target was set at 200 mph, 322 km/h. After several years without achieving remarkable results, mainly due to inclement weather, Jerry was able to enter the 200 MPH Club in 1985 and position the SM World as the fastest Citroën in the world, a record that he still holds as there is no proof of a model of the fastest French brand. During the 1987 season, Sylvia joined the 200 MPH Club with a qualifying run of 206.446 and a record run of 202.3 mph (325 km/h). This historic race set a class speed record that stood for 23 years. Along with the car was traveling another SM that, after the trailer that the family used to transport the record vehicle was stolen, was converted into a kind of pick-up to fulfill this task.

REFORMED SOCIETY aka HARSH PURI
[ UNCAGE | What Ever Not | DRED Records | made of CONCRETE | Bons Records | SUPERB Recordings , London UK ]
Brief bio of an artist: REFORMED SOCIETY is a project run by London based DJ/producer HARSH PURI who plays everything from Chicago and Detroit inspired house and techno to early acid house. A regular on the London circuit including a past residency at Londonâs infamous after hour party "Jaded". And having amassed a huge record collection both vinyl and digital over the past fifteen years, Harsh loves the challenge of playing different genres of music depending on the night and crowd in hand. He tries to keep the same approach when producing music as well. His last 7th EP Â âBend The Waveâ was released earlier this year on vinyl via Marco Faraone and Norman Methnerâs label UNCAGE with remixes from Bambounou and Obsolete Music Technology. He has also had previous releases on DRED, What Ever Not, SUPERB, made of CONCRETE and Bons.Â

Sega Saturn - Rise of the Robots 2 Resurrection
Title: Rise of the Robots 2 Resurrection / ă©ă€ășăȘăă¶ăăăăïŒ
Developer: Mirage Technologies (Multimedia) Ltd. UK
Publisher: Acclaim
Release date: 28 June 1996
Catalogue No.: T-8104G
Genre: 2D Fighting
How do you make an even shitter sequel to a shit game (which saw a release on the Super Famicom in Japan and also having Brian May on board)? Easy, just fill it with 18 or more fighters and forget every single criticism the first game got then add a load more problems!! Then make it so that the poor unfortunate person playing the game has to sit through a battle with every single one of the God-awful characters before he or she can complete the game.
Yes, Rise 2 is worse than the first game, a feat thought to be impossible. Why the hell Mirage has made it, so you have to battle your way through every single character in the game just to complete it is a joke.
The original Rise of the Robots of the Super Famicom / SNES had some pretty good graphics even if it did play like crap. The graphics in this sequel are bloody awful. Poor animation and tinny little character sprites don't help either.
OK, so the game is boring as hell and looks bad but how does it play? Play? What do I mean? This game has no playability !! It's awful. Oh but wait, it gets worse. Even the music is crap. Why Brian May has his name on there I don't know. Did he really make all of these piss-poor tunes? Somehow I doubt it.

Automotive Electrical Steering Column Lock Market Estimated To Cross (Revenues) By 2026
The electrical steering column lock for automotive is a vehicle anti-theft device, which is fitted with the steering column, usually below the steering wheel. The electrical steering column lock is integrated with the ignition switch and engages and disengages electronically by the electronic control unit of the vehicle. The electrical steering column lock locks the steering in a position slightly off the straight position so that the car cannot roll off a hill. Most modern vehicles that are deployed with electrical steering column lock include Audi A6, BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class, Volvo V70, Toyota Etios, Nissan Altima, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Volkswagen Passat.
