Come on, they're only like a few years apart. “We're not so different. I'm training here. You're training there. Sometimes I think about what I would do if I wasn't a Jedi.” “Isn't that against your code?” “Maybe,” Ben shrugs. “But I can't help my imagination. I'd like to live in a house with my family. And take long trips on my ship, living like a pirate or something.” He knows he sounds silly, but he hopes Hux won’t scrutinize him too harshly. “A pirate?” “Or something!” “You’re a funny little boy,” Hux smirks. He’s delighted, it would seem.

So here’s the main piece for @ballvvasher​‘s wonderful fic Ergodicity! It’s been so lovely working with her on this and honestly the fic turned out better than I could have ever imagined, so I’ve felt super lucky to have such great source material to work with. It spans over pretty much their whole lives up until they’re adults, so if benarmie is your thing you’re gonna have a great time with this one. I really hope you all enjoy the fic and that I can do it justice!

@dubiousculturalartifact fascist characters in a fictional space opera have similarities to nazis and imperials but they are a far cry from real, actual nazis.

hux is literally the closest you can get to a nazi without him literally saying the words ‘hello my name is armitage and i’m a huge fucking nazi’

in the first film he literally gives a genocidal speech under a red nazi banner while his STORM TROOPER SALUTE HIM, DOUBLE-NAZI STYLE

because newsflash, snookums, 'fiction’ is always political, whether you want to admit it or not. it always carries social implications and has influence on the broader cultural conversations, and on our personal worldviews.

science fiction has always been about utilizing fictionalized parallels for real-world social issues, in order to make commentary, draw allusions, and otherwise deepen the narrative.

if you aren’t willing to contend with that, sorry, but your analysis ain’t worth shit.

That’s a part of the story of Star Wars. Star Wars is literally about people fighting to overthrow fascism. In my opinion, it is utterly, profoundly useless to be a fan of Star Wars unless you’re willing to think about what that means.

And what does that mean?

It means, in our current political climate, having literally zero patience whatsoever for any form of discourse that states that unless someone is *specifically called a Nazi*, they aren’t really a Nazi.

it means looking at modern-day Nazis like fucking Milo, and not giving them a free pass because they’re gay and entertainingly ‘sassy’.

It means acknowledging that ‘they’re not really a Nazi-Nazi, though’ is not just ‘fictional’, it’s a very real ideological position that is leading to the resurgence of white supremacist neo-Nazi movements, and the current rise of fascism that is directly threatening the lives of people i care about.

so no.

the first time i saw tfa, i was immediately sickened because i knew how that line was coded. its also public knowledge that JJ and the creators described that scene as a rape scene. its in the subtext. i know its not easy knowing that thats what they did to those characters in canon, but its what happened, and reylo and kylo fans have to face that.

I’ve been googling about this and as far as I’ve been able to find only JJ Abrams has mentioned rape when referring to that scene and that was in response to a fan who had said to him that the scene played that way. This post lays out what happened pretty clearly so if you’re referring to something else please let me know. I’ve gone over the script and it’s not there. Not even in an Alien the-whole-film-is-one-big-rape-metaphor kind of way. It was undoubtedly torture (and I disagree with fans who say otherwise). But “mind rape”? Our nearest equivalent to the mind probe would be a truth serum which I object to on moral grounds but do not agree is rape. Rape is a very specific thing and nothing like it happened in TFA.

I’ve gone over Abrams’ commentary for TFA and he doesn’t mention rape that I can find. He refers to Kylo as looking like a prince, mentions the fairytale aspects of Kylo’s interactions with Rey, etc., none of which supports the idea that his directorial intent was rape. Adam Driver hasn’t mentioned this either nor has Daisy Ridley. I think taking a fan’s concern seriously and talking about it with him in a sensitive way is one thing and I support that. But saying “this is what the movie was doing”, declaring that the intent of those involved, is something else.

yeah all this is opinion and preference, there are just as many arguments for dom kyle as there are for sub kyle

AH, omg this reminded me of my need for more powerbottom kylo though?? Powerbottom hux is such a given in my head, but omg i’d love to see more of kylo getting what he needs out of hux and hux being kinda overwhelmed lol

My blog my rules. I don’t force anyone to reblog from me. This post was properly tagged and I didn’t want any r/ylos reblogging it. If they do they get the response they do. 

And no I don’t think they bring up any valid points when they contradict it by rooting for r/ylo. R/ylo would be the most boring, unoriginal thing to happen in a sci-fi story. You can’t go around rooting for that than say ReySky is unoriginal. You’re being hypocritical.

And so this marks the end of my contributions to the 2017 big bang, albeit very late. I had way too many ideas of what I could draw for this fic so instead I just complied together some little sketches that I liked best. I wanna say a big big thank you to @ballvvasher for being so wonderfully patient with me and producing such an incredible fic, you’ve been an absolute pleasure to work with! (Also a quick shout out to @cinnabi for being real supportive throughout both of the krbs I worked with this year, my messy bitch ass couldn’t have done it without you b x). 

You can find the fic in question, Ergodicity, here, it’s well worth a read or five. It’s a sort of prequels aus with lots of great benarmie and lots of ‘what-ifs’ that I felt super lucky to work with. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
