EVENT 012 {APRIL 19 - 28} ANNUAL SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL
It's that time of year again! Aurora Bay's Botanical Gardens will once again be hosting its annual Spring Garden Festival!
For the past eleven years, Aurora Bay has held one of their most famous events in April, hosting a flower and garden festival to celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring! The botanical gardens are always decorated in beautiful fairy lights, topiaries, and of course, some of the most gorgeous flowers you've ever seen!
Each night for a week, residents of Aurora Bay can buy their ticket for admission to the Spring Garden Festival held at the Botanical Gardens. All day there will be vendors selling art, jewelry, clothes, etc. There will be live music, food, dancing, and even a little wine and cheese tasting for the adults!
There are plenty of things for children to do as well! There's always face painting, games, and since this year the festival lands during Earth Day, there will also be educational booths for children and adults alike to learn more about gardening and nature and how they can help take care of wildlife and keep the planet clean!
This year as well the Botanical Gardens has dedicated an entire section of the garden to a sunflower field, perfect for photo-ops!
And like every year, around sunset, everyone will meet in the center of the garden by the fountain and count down from ten to zero and the lights displayed all over the garden will be turned on!
Here are a few new things to look forward to at this year's event:
pick your own flowers and diy bouquets (or succulent terrariums!)
flowers/plants for sale
picnic field with food and drink vendors
crocheted flowers for sale
tethered hot air balloon rides to oversee the entire garden and the town!
tie-dye clothes with flowers
henna and glitter-ink temporary tattoos
wine and floral liqueur tastings with charcuterie board accompaniments
OOC INFO UNDER THE CUT:
starting 11am CST, the dash will be close for nonevent threads (unless tagged pre-event)
Held at the Aurora Bay Botanic Gardens, residents and tourists alike can join in for the festival!
If location owners want booths for their businesses, contact the main and let us know! some examples of booths can be pressed flowers, paintings, jewelry, floral drinks and foods, etc.
along with booths, if any shops (i.e. the bakery and the flower shop) want to post specials and have their storefronts decked out, feel free! no need to ask permission.
please keep in mind the entire town will be involved in some way, so please feel free to have characters mention the floral décor all around town!
You may post fun floral outfits for your characters during the festivities! please tag everything associated to the event as aurorabay.flowerfest, as well as tagging our aesthetic page so we can reblog them!
Five open event starters may be posted right off the bat, but after that, you must reply to at least two before posting your own!
Characters don’t have to participate in the event, but know that the whole town will be buzzing about it, so any threads prior to the event should be tagged pre-event
Have fun!

4.3 Kitsch Value
Greenberg’s concept of kitsch has a superior tone that makes it seem like he is condemning kitsch art to be less than avant-garde or modern art. He states that kitsch is unserious, low-brow, predictable, and in poor taste. His views of kitsch elevate what he considers high art, something that is daring and original and strives to open minds through critical thinking.
I personally believe Greenberg’s concept of kitsch is a crock of malarky. By definition, kitsch is widely accessible and widely appreciated art that can be easily obtained by the masses. To me, that sounds like humans love to surround themselves with what makes them experience positive aesthetic emotional responses. In Stefano Mastandrea et al.’s meta-study of the correlation between art and psychological well-being, he cites sixty-four different studies that analyze how art and aesthetic emotional responses impact psychological well-being, whether emotionally or cognitively, and the vast majority of those studies lean towards positive impacts. For example, one of the studies was Slobodan Markovic’s “Components of aesthetic experience: aesthetic fascination, aesthetic appraisal, and aesthetic emotion” which states that the aesthetic experience is “an exceptional state of mind which opposes everyday, pragmatic experience and ‘protects’ the individual from the effects of oppressive reality.” Essentially, interacting with art that produces aesthetic experience can help keep people sane during rough times in their lives. I personally have kitsch art wallpapering my walls and my shelves are full of little trinkets that make me happy because when I’m feeling depressed or anxious, even just looking at my kitsch decorations makes me feel a bit better.
I think that the difference between art and kitsch comes down to what is in a museum, but even then there are exceptions. Like even though Monet’s Water Lilies is displayed at The Art Institute of Chicago, my framed print of the same piece is kitsch while the original is art. It comes down to the semiotics of the piece, a copy or reproduction of what is traditionally considered art is always going to be kitsch because the copy is only a signifier of the original. The signifier is never in possession of the same intent as the original though they can get close. However, just because something is a kitsch reproduction of art doesn’t mean it can’t evoke the same emotions as the original art. I bought my print of Water Lilies in the gift shop on the same day I saw the piece in person for the first time, I wanted something to take with me that would hold onto that aesthetic experience. Understanding this distinction, I think kitsch has been around since the beginning. The evidence we have of figurines and finely decorated pottery emphasizes that humanity wants to be surrounded by beautiful things even if they are beautiful just for the sake of beauty. The time and effort that has been put into embroidering everyday clothing also speaks to this idea that kitsch is just accessible beauty for aesthetic experience.
Jeff Koons is one of the artists most often cited as being kitsch and while not all of his works spark aesthetic experience in me, I can see why high-brow art people would call his work kitsch. I knew of his balloon sculptures but when researching kitsch online his statue Puppy kept popping up. I had never seen it before and I love it, it is a 43 ft tall topiary sculpture of a West Highland White Terrier made from a variety of blooming flowers covering a color-coated steel structure. His intent behind the sculpture was to create a piece that “communicated warmth and love to people” which lacks the “depth” of “art” but perfectly falls in with kitsch.

Apple Boy’s Hometown Island
Tumblr media
[ Image: A screenshot from Anpanman: Apple Boy and Everyone’s Hope, showing Apple Boy’s Hometown. The Hometown is a large island shaped like a red, half-peeled apple, with the spiral of peel still connected and floating around the upper half. There is a small lake with an apple stem sticking out of it, with a large leaf attached to the middle of the stem. Around the lake is a circle of closely clustered orange, green, and yellow houses, and surrounding that are even pentagonal shapes housing apple trees and grass. Winding between the pentagonal shapes and the houses is yellow cobblestone. The Hometown floats in a dreamy light blue sky surrounded by clouds. ]
This place is probably one of my favorite floating castle/planets I’ve seen so far besides Princess Kirara’s Castle/Planet and the weird Dyson Sphere planet  from Kokorin to Kiseki no Hoshi.
Tumblr media
[ Image: Another screenshot, closer to the floating island this time, showing the apple trees, which are cut into topiary sculptures of Brontosauruses, Pterodactyls, and Stegosauruses, alongside more normal, round topped trees and wide arches. All of them are hanging with apples, and surrounded by little apple fairies doing farm work. Visible is a basket suspended on two apple balloons watering a round topped tree from above, attended by two apple fairies, and two similar baskets laden with picked apples, surrounded by apple fairies with smaller baskets to pour into them. The houses surrounding the lake surrounding the stem are more visible too, all shaped like lopsided apples, with stems for chimneys and seemingly random door placement. ]
We barely get to see this place in the movie, but there’s so much going on aesthetically. It’s strange and gorgeous, and it’s what I like a lot about most settings in Anpanman. I wish I could ask though: Why dinosaurs?

i pass this one house pretty regularly and i don't know what in the cornbread fuck is going on in there but there's this wonky looking topiary base thing? it's a giraffe? i think? and it's almost as tall AS THE FRONT DOOR.
i know this for a fact because:
• it's not outside.
• it's not in some random window.
• it's not even in a sunroom or something.
• IT'S IN THE FRONT DOOR.
like it's just sitting right behind the glass front door. how do they get out of the house? how do they get in the house? it's not the front door. i don't know what door they use but it's not that one. THIS THING NEVER MOVES. she's just, there. starring into the abyss, like some kind of eldritch balloon animal. and this has been a regular thing, for at least three years now. what the fuck

Method to edit object .package files without changing IDs using TSRW
Here’s a quick-ish tutorial.
Description**: TSRW won’t let you just open a .package/.sims3pack to edit it. Your only option is to either open a saved project (.WRK file), or make an entirely new project which changes IDs. When IDs are changed, it won’t replace the file and instead ends up creating an entirely new object.
Edit to add (3/3/24): This is for objects only. TSRW doesn’t like it when you try to import a cas item (probably build items, too) into an object project. You might try a different dummy project for this (cas item for a cas item, etc). However, I’ve never tried, so you’ll have to experiment.
For this tutorial you will need to use a .package file.
What else will you need? TSRW (I use version 2.0.88) Sims3Pack Multi Installer (only if your cc is a .sims3pack)
----
If your cc is a .sims3pack, you will need to use Sims3Pack Multi Installer to extract it to a .package file.
Once you’ve done that, open TSRW.
Create a dummy project. I just used Sculpture Plant Ivy Ball Topiary (found under Object>Decor>Plants), but it shouldn’t really matter. Edit: TSRW doesn’t like it when you try to import CAS items (probably build items, too) into an object dummy project. I have never tried this, but you might try using a cas/build dummy project for those types, and see if it will work. You’ll have to experiment.
Go up to “Edit” in the menu, and select “Project Contents”.
Highlight all of the files, and Right Click > Remove. While you can remove all the files one by one, it’ll take forever so I highly suggest if you don’t know how to highlight all files at once to check out this youtube video showing you how on PC! It saves a LOT of time!
A window will pop up asking you if you really want to remove the items from the project. Click Yes.
All of the files should now be removed.
Now go to Import>From .package and navigate to the cc you want to edit, and open it. It should say something like “Import done, added X and replaced 0 entries in the project package”. Click “OK”.
Now Click “OK” again.
You should now see your cc that you want to edit.
edit: You might need to select the object’s mesh in the mesh tab drop down to avoid crashing before you start to edit it. (Idk why this is necessary, but I’ll just say it’s ✨TSRW things✨).
After you’re done editing, go back to Edit>Project Contents. Then Export>To .package and save your file. I haven’t tried saving as a sims3pack, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work?
* This is also how you extract directly to a package file in TSRW (Edit>Project Contents then Export>To .package). I highly recommend compressing your file after this as I’ve noticed TSRW loves to balloon up the size.
** Maybe this allows you to convert a .package file to .sims3pack (to extract with lots etc)? Feel free to try/leave your results in the comments as I haven’t tried it!

Giambattista Valli elevated his namesake label's Paris fashion show on Monday night to celebrate ten years on the official French haute couture calendar. Fans cheered as he sent mountains of tulle and billowing trains for a spin in front of brilliant lights.
Pink flamingos pushed up against rainbow ponies as models emerged from a wall of dazzling, party balloons while donning large cat-eye sunglasses and teased-out hair extensions. As a robot camera rolled back and forth, they lifted their skirts as they walked the runway and encircled the mirrored columns.
There were numerous, diverse silhouettes with shifting volumes. Sleeves blew out from the shoulders, and skirts were broad, constructed in tiers like stacked cakes, or fitted, then abruptly fanned out in a flash of yellow, pink, or turquoise at the bottom.
Valli put out a shimmering, silver sequined body suit with rings of white ostrich feathers around the legs as an homage to his iconic topiary dresses.
“It’s like the generosity of the hug. It’s a hug of flowers, a hug of feathers, a hug of tulle. There are all these bouquets that hug you; it’s this kind of pleasure to share happy times together,” said Valli.
The collection was about living in the moment, he explained.
“I don’t look too much in the future, or too much in the past,” he said. “I think this is the big lesson from the past couple of years.”
The Pinault family holding company Groupe Artemis provides financial support for the label, which is well-liked among socialites and well-known for catering to the red carpet set. In 2019, it collaborated with H&M to increase the size of its consumer base.
Prior to taking his bow, Valli made his way down the runway and greeted Bianca Brandolini, who was wearing a pink dress with a hooded cape.
Following the performance, celebrities like Olivia Palermo and Robbie Williams flocked backstage.

forget that episode of run that was just brainstorming new episode concepts, give us run bts: forbidden concepts. nothing but drinking games episode. two part tattooing episode; part 1 they learn tattooing + practice their new skills on honeydew melons, part 2 everyone designs a secret tattoo for their randomly selected member (to be tattooed by a professional, obvi); after the finished tattoo is revealed, the tattooee must guess who designed their new ink. "build a baking soda volcano" episode. episode where they shadow zookeepers; wear the inevitable khaki uniform, put together various animal diets (can be relatively tame or high ick-factor [veggie-heavy vs. bugs, whole raw fish, baby mice, etc.]), shovel poo, squeegee windows, maybe hold baby penguins... you get the gist. knitting episode; final knitted product rated for speed vs. accuracy. egg fight battle royal: they just pelt each other with eggs; some are raw, some are boiled, and some of the eggs are shall we say less than fresh. diy brewery long-term project. roller derby episode. blindfolded pedicures episode. printmaking episode but they only make counterfeit money. precision driving course episode (namjoon sits in the passenger's seat + does live running commentary). lifeguard training episode. making balloon animals episode. topiary shaping/pruning episode. "finally determine once and for all who holds their alcohol best (and worst) by administering a series of field sobriety tests while the members do shots and attempt to assemble flat packed furniture without the instruction booklet" episode.

Sup again. I have been asked to make a hedge that was as comfortable to lean on as it appears, so have this... untitled bush. It operates on roughly the same concept as the sensitive plant, i.e. wilting when touched, but has more dense foliage, so it essentially feels like leaning against a squishy leaf pile. The evolutionary reason for this is essentially that it’s really hard to bite a wall, so this plant, when threatened, just becomes a wall. The branches wilt until they are flat against the trunk, making the leaves harder to graze on. Basically what’s happening is a similar effect to a balloon-- when it’s inflated, it is sturdy enough to support its own weight and stick up, but when it’s deflated, it flops over. Since water is required to do this, it is native to wet, warm climates with temperatures that do not get below freezing. It’s very interesting as topiary, and requires a lot of skill to shape, because it will of course try to wilt if you trim inexpertly, but if the topiarist is skilled enough, it is a highly sought after medium, because it’s essentially two sculptures in one-- one wilted, and one not. I personally don’t mind normal hedges because one can flop dramatically onto them and they will support your weight, but I would also lean on this because squish.
