The first genre I want to look into as part of our disrupt brief is black metal.

This is an extreme sub-genre of heavy metal. It includes shrieking vocal, raw recording, heavy distortion and usually a fast tempo, and very disruptive in nature.

Here are a few sketches I did of members of the Norwegian black metal group Mayhem,

I had a vision of what I wanted to create in my head and knew I wanted to add a Norse god into my painting, I ended up choosing “Ymir Jotun” father of all giants. I picked Ymir as I wanted to create an uneasy and looming presence and felt he portrays these emotions well.

This is the only picture I took of my painting during the process.

I added the Fantoft Stave Church, this is a very iconic church in the black metal scene. A member of the band Burzum, Varg Vikens burned this church down for a publicity stunt for his up coming album.

And here is the final piece!!! I used mainly black and white acrylic paint, in the paint studio.

Behemoth's third album Pandemonic Incantations was a game-changer for the Polish black metal scene.

THE END

IM FEELING BLACK LICORICE? I ALWAYS FIND THE END TO BE SUCH A GENTLE ENTITY, LIKE A HAND YOURE SCARED TO HAVE TOUCH YOU, BUT WHEN IT DOES.. I FIND THERES THAT APPREHENSION AROUND BALCK LICORICE, A STIGMA OF IT THAT ITS THE MOST REPULSIVE TASTE. I PERSONALLY FIND IT LOVELY.

THE FLESH

IF IM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE? EUGH. SOUR, WARM, AND WET. CONCEPTUALIZE BITING INTO A PAPER TOWEL JUST USED TO CLEAN RAW CHICKEN JUICE FROM A GRILL'S LID.

AS A HYPOTHETICAL? LIKE A BLUE RARE STEAK, WELL SEASONED. UGH, EVEN THINKING OF THAT DOESNT GET THE MEMORY OF THAT SHOULDER OUT OF MY HEAD.

THE EYE

ALMOND SCONES DUNKED IN COFFEE WITH JUST A LITTLE MILK. A SMART FEELING FLAVOR, MILD AND EARTHY, NOT OVERWHELMING THE SENSES LESS IMPORTANT THAN SIGHT.

So. Monster High now has officially four separate continuities for their characters (G1, G2, live action, G3). Well, what if you want to draw the ghouls meeting different versions of themselves? It's important that you can tell them apart easily - sure, the outfits help, but this is a fashion doll franchise; clothes are liable to change. So how can you make them different enough? Well, luckily I have a handy guide just for that!

Telling Apart the Ghouls Across the Generations: Frankie Stein

Generation 1

A few thoughts on Angband Fashion:

(since the fortress is far up in the North, I assume the climate there to be cold almost all year round, except in the very depth where it would be warm, sometimes even hot.)

*Bright colours are for kids and important people. The main reason for that is visibility. The snow and the mines are dangerous places, and accidents happen, so it's a way to find kids quickly. And for important people, it's a bit self explanatory.

*Colours are usually yellow, red, brown, grey, balck and white.

*Green, blue and purple are very rare and so, expensive. Melkor wears dark blue and black, sometimes with purple.

*The materials used are fur, leather, cloth and metal.

*Clothes are usually practical and almost always have fur somewhere.

*On that point, a common accessory is the fur plate, a simple metal plate with fur on both sides. It keeps you warm and at the same time acts as a piece of armour. Most are very simple but, as with anything, it can in truth be made very fancy.

*Another must-have are gloves. They have holes at the end for the claws.

*Long hair is very rare. It gets in the way and is associated with elves.

*Young kids often have no hair nor horns. As a result they often wear hats to keep warm.

I Doors come i Black Sabbath, padri del Doom

I Doors pionieri del doom metal alla pari dei Black Sabbath. Prima di urlare allo scandalo per un accostamento che potrebbe sembrare azzardato, analizziamo il ragionamento che ha portato a questa conclusione. Potremmo partire da una semplice considerazione. Se i Beatles sono stati decretati come inventori dello scream grazie alla sola introduzione di Helterskelter, i Doors possono serenamente essere considerati pionieri del doom metal grazie ad interi brani.

Ma quali sono i tratti caratteristici del doom che coinvolgono la band di Morrison? Atmosfere cupe, ritmo lento, pesante, testi che riguardano la morte, l’alienazione, la decadenza della società. Sono tutti aspetti che i Doors presentano in diverse canzoni e ben prima dell’arrivo dei Black Sabbath. Tant’è che lo stesso Tony Iommi ha indicato gli stessi Doors tra le sue influenze. E non solo lui. Lee Dorrian, ex cantante dei Napalm Death e fondatore dei Cathedral, ha dichiarato che “la teatralità e il misticismo dei Doors erano elementi fondamentali che molti gruppi doom hanno cercato di replicare”.

Anche Wino Weinrich dei Saint Vitus ha sottolineato come i Doors abbiano introdotto un senso di malinconia e introspezione nel rock, aprendo la strada a un approccio più meditativo e pesante. La domanda quindi è: perché i Doors non vengono nominati, se non alla stessa stregua dei Black Sabbath, almeno tra gli ispiratori del genere? Anzi, in verità, quando si parla di doom, non sono per nulla presi in considerazione. Eppure il loro apporto per lo sviluppo di questo stile è innegabile.

Al di là dei brani proto doom come The End o Riders on the storm, la canzone più indicativa è sicuramente L’America, presente su L.A. Woman. Una canzone doom a tutti gli effetti e con tutti i crismi. Eppure rarissimamente, per non dire mai, mi è capitato che venisse citata come fonte di ispirazione o influenza. Per quale motivo? Stilisticamente entrambe le band sapevano creare tensione attraverso il contrasto tra momenti di calma e improvvise esplosioni di suono. Tecnica che la fa da padrona nel doom metal, dove i cambi di tempo e le pause drammatiche amplificano il senso di disperazione e urgenza.

Eppure Morrison e compagni paiono essere ignorati. Tuttavia, da un certo punto di vista, potremmo addirittura dire che se i Black Sabbath hanno canonicizzato il genere, i Doors hanno ‘creato’ i Black Sabbath. Come tutti i generi musicali, anche il doom non ha una sola origine. È piuttosto la summa di influenze diverse che attraversano la psichedelia e l’hard rock, fino a convergere in una musica che celebra l’oscurità in tutte le sue forme.

Ed entrambe le band hanno sviluppato questo aspetto. Viene da sé che le analogie non possono essere eseguite sui suoni. I Sabbath avevano sonorità decisamente più dure rispetto ai Doors. Ciò non diminuisce i numeri punti di contatto. Volendo ampliare lo spettro di ciò che può riportare all’estetica musicale doom, potremmo anche fa rientrare alcune composizioni dei Pink Floyd e Obscured by coud è di certo un buon riferimento, con tutti i limiti del paragone.

Tirando le somme. Parlare esclusivamente di Balck Sabbath come padri del doom è inesatto, limitante e limitativo. Sono molteplici ed eterogenee le influenze e le contaminazioni che ha subito. In primis, appunto, quella dei Doors sotto più punti di vista.

this weekend when a balck metal band was about to play and my sister was like you know they have a new front man because the last one went to jail for stabbing someone.....

The woman was still feeling rather heated walking out of the building from her little tantrum, grumbling to herself as she ripped off a wooden plank off a building as she passed "ill show them..." ripping pieces off as if it was jerky "Ill show all the people there that i can handle whatever it is they throw at me, that im still useful" crunching the wood in her teeth Over time she was walking all over town essentially looking for trouble, and picking fights for information, the sun was starting to go down and she flailed her arms around like a child holding her balck suit jacket her hand "ughh! how is it i havent found any information on ANYTHING!...maybe i should ask rune for help" pulling down the sleeve of her shirt to see the button on her wrist for emergencies, but then grit her teeth as her rage came back "No i cant, that would literally be what they want from me" pulling her sleeve back down, as some guys came out from the dark of the Alley, as she could see them in the reflection of her compact mirror "Can you guys leave, i dont have time for small fries like you, Its late, im tired and my makeup is seriously running, can we just speed this up" she would say as she closed the mirror with one hand placing it in her bra, as the attackers would still comes towards her, as she put her fists up "ugh have it your way i guess", Over time Lemon would take these guys too lightly as they easily were somehow able to overpower her, as one of them came from behind and smacked her over the head with a metal bat, but through sheer force of will she stood to her feet with a loud gutteral gator growl to stand on her own two feet, but then one blow to her chest, she couldnt take it and fell limp to the ground, as she could feel the coils of rope snaking there way around her body as they would tighten around her frame, the croc would weakly and defiantly protest to these "You...wont..get away..with this" then letting in a sharp inhale as they finished binding her up as they fastened a tight knot on her body then stuffed a wad in her mouth and wrapping several round of tape around her head to keep her quiet as they threw her into the back of a van and drove off, the croc now falling asleep from her wounds and trauma, now entirely at this mercy An email was sent to the office of Runes computer, it was a Video of the people that took Lemon "Hello Miss Kurou and your agency, i believe we have something that belongs to you, if you want to see her back just as you left her, you will come by entirely alone" you could see Lemon angrily struggling around in her bindings and angrily yelling with the tape over her mouth, then looking over at the camera as she glared over, trying to tell Rune to not come and she can save herself, but of course it was all just muffled nonsense that came out, it seemed they were in some kind of abandonded pool or something with the bound up croc in the deeper end, but you could tell on the video, The croc was starting to look more paler than she normally would, and her skin was starting to get oilier, she was starting to dry out, it was only a matter of time before she would severely need water, as you could see her chest starting to heave on the video

Back to the Shadows

Burzum appeared from nowhere in 1991 with a demo tape made up of a dozen guitars-and-bass-only tracks in rehearsal quality. I made a few more or less successful metal albums, but they all always included at least some ambient music. With time I moved further and further away from metal, and today only the ambient music remains. Today (2013) I think I am done playing metal music for good. 

 Many of you followed Burzum through the years, some even from the beginning, and I think metal-Burzum deserves a proper "good bye". So, just like I started out I will finish metal-Burzum with a guitars-and-bass-only track in rehearsal quality. "Back to the Shadows" is made up of the last metal riffs I ever made (in 2012). It was never released in any way, or recorded (beyond what you hear here), and it will not either -- beyond this short "video". 

 Take it for what it is; a sentimental good bye to metal-Burzum.

 The music is playing with an image of the 17 year-old me, taken from the time when some of the first Burzum tracks were made. You can see this track as a good bye to that fellow too. 

 You can use this music as you please privately, but the track is mine, so if you by any chance want to use it commercially you need a permission from me to do so.
