idk if you can tell, but dan has bleached layers...it's faded cus he forgor to redo the job...

I've been keeping this kinda close to my chest (just not posting the process or really talking about it aside from with friends) but I finally have some physical merch of my art!!

I spent months on these designs and I'm proud to show off the first wave of my Bakugan Keychains!

Keychains depicting the brawlers will be coming in the future. The art for them is done I just need the funds to get them made, so the better these do, the faster I can have them made

I have been chewing on this for. yonks. and there is more, but it's mostly dialogue blocking that I need to flesh out. It's Runo-centric and will eventually hopefully feature some of her and Shun being😳 buds. But also it may be a bit sad and rage-inducing. Enjoy!

The brush sailed through Runo’s hair slowly and smoothly, keeping the same pace it’d had for ten minutes now. Her eyes were unfocused, barely paying her reflection in the bathroom mirror any attention. Even when her mother called her name for the fourth time that morning, she didn’t move. The world was a blurry, foggy mess, and she intended to keep it that was for as long as possible. Anything to keep her away from that place downstairs.

“Runo?” her Bakugan partner, Tigrerra, called from the edge of the sink. “Didn’t you hear your mother call?”

Runo’s brush slowed to a stop right at the end of her hair. She turned her head slightly in Tigrerra’s direction, but her gaze stayed in the corner of the mirror. “Hm?”

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Tigrerra’s tiny body hop up off of the sink and felt her lightly land on her shoulder. “Are you feeling alright, my lady?”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” she sighed. “Just… tired.” She never liked lying to her partner, but Tigrerra just wouldn’t be able to understand her pain. They didn’t have problems like this back in Vestroya- at least, Runo hoped that they didn’t.

“Do you think it would be best if you used one of your break days today?” Judging by how often Tigrerra suggested this as a solution to her problems, she likely felt that Runo’s problems stemmed from being overworked. And, in a way, she was right; Runo could definitely appreciate less time in that hellhole her parents called employment.

Unfortunately, that solution would be only temporary, and that wasn’t something Runo could be bothered with. “No, I don’t think so,” she answered. “Dan and the others will probably come today. I’m sure they’d assume something was wrong with me if I didn’t show up, and then freak out about it.”

“Alright, if you insist.” She didn’t sound the least bit convinced, but she never pressured Runo to talk about her troubles if she really didn’t want to. She always ended up talking about it eventually, so it didn’t matter how long it took to open up.

But this time… what was there for a Bakugan to understand? How could opening up about this to Tigrerra really help in any way?

With as much enthusiasm as usual, Runo got herself ready for the day; putting her hair up in its usual pigtails, getting dressed in her usual top, skirt, and tights, and doing her usual makeup routine: enough concealer to hide the bags under her eyes, some light blush, and some mascara. She skipped the lip gloss today; she’d stopped wearing it during working hours when she noticed that it drew a little too much attention to her lips from the customers.

When she’d finally run out of ways to stall, she begrudgingly trudged down the stairs and into the kitchen, where her mother was rushing between the espresso machine and the sink. When she noticed her daughter in the doorway, she scoffed. “Well, would you look who finally decided to show up?” she scolded. “Lord, thought you might’ve died up there!”

“Good to know you were so worried about me,” Runo droned, sarcastically.

“Oh, don’t give me your attitude today, please. We’ve got a full house out there!” her mother exclaimed. Runo groaned and rolled her eyes, causing her mother to sigh in defeat. “Alright. If you’re in such a bad mood, then why don’t you start out by serving your friends in the booth? All of ‘em showed up in one big group about five minutes ago.”

“Of course they did,” Runo grumbled, finally entering the kitchen to grab her apron. As she tied it around her waist, her mother placed a rolled omelette on a small plate on the counter next to her.

“Don’t forget breakfast, doll. You look like you really need the energy today,” she said, pinching her daughter’s cheek gently as she scanned her face with concern.

“I’m fine, mom. Thanks.”

As her mother resumed her work in the kitchen, Runo shovelled the omelette into her mouth. She then grabbed her notepad and pen, took a deep breath, and exited the kitchen through the café backdoor.

The smell of fresh coffee only barely covered the stench that every grown man in the café brought in with him. All the same, in their branded t-shirts and jeans, there wasn’t a single one that she remembered as a regular, even though most of them knew her name. Her father stood behind the counter, pretending to clean as he loudly laughed along with whatever the customers were saying. No wonder her mother was so distressed, Runo thought; her father was just standing there doing fuck-all.

Her five friends easily stood out from the crowd; aside from their brightly coloured outfits, they were the only teenagers in the shop other than her. She approached their table with as much enthusiasm as she’d been displaying all morning: none.
