Independence Day is officially celebrated with a ceremony and parade at the Garrison Savannah which attracts both locals and tourists alike to see hundreds of members of service groups like the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and the Royal Barbados Police Force, as well as military units march in various formations, salute the nation and commemorate this important day in the island's history. Formalities aside, Bajans often celebrate Independence with a family picnic on the bank holiday. Our Independence Day a grand parade is held, usually at the Garrison Savannah, site of the original Independence ceremony on 30th November 1966.. #Barbados #independence #bajansunmagazine

Barbados Independence celebrations run throughout the month of November and include sports competitions, fairs, community events and religious services. On Independence Day a grand parade is held, usually at the Garrison Savannah, site of the original Independence ceremony in 1966. One of the highlights of the Independence celebrations is the decorative lighting of Parliament Buildings, Independence Square, the Independence Arch and businesses throughout the capital Bridgetown, using blue and gold coloured bulbs (the national colours). Roundabouts on the highways are also lighted, creating a spectacular view at night. Celebrate our 49th Independence with us. #Barbados #Independence #BajamSun #BajanSunMagazine #BajanSunOnline #allthingsbajan www.bajansunonline.com/magazine www.issuu.com/bajansun

Siting impressively at the top of the island and majestically guarding the other parishes, St. Lucy is truly a visitor’s paradise. It is a wonderful parish to visit and few places in the world have such variety of scenery within such a small compass area. St. Lucy, the northernmost parish of Barbados welcomes you. #Destination439 #StLucy #BajanSunMagazine #BajanIslandTours #StrictlyBajanRumShopTours #BajanAssociationofRumShops www.bajanislandtours.com

Banana Plant The banana plant is the largest herbaceous flowering plant. These tall and study plants produce a single bunch of bananas and after that fruiting process, the pseudostem dies. However, new banana offshoots develop from the base of the plant and start a new growth process all over again. In Barbados, the leaves of the banana tree are mildly heated in boiling water and used to wrap the dough of Barbados' traditional conkie delicacy in preparation for the steaming until cooked process. Bananas are also used ripe for the purposes of smoothies, fruit salads or for baking banana bread. The green ones are used for cooking purposes. #Barbados #Fruit #Caribbean #IslandLife #Bajan #BajanSun #BajanSUnMagazine
