"Barbados’ Rum Shops". They are as much a part of the island as the pub is to Britain. Almost every village, however small, has one. The wooden buildings are usually painted in the bold livery of a sponsor – often a drink brand, maybe a mobile network – and are unmistakeable. They sell rum, of course, in shots or small bottles, along with food cooked to order. In the rural villages, they are the community centre, where everything from cricket to how to pay the electric bill is discussed. #BARSinc #BajanAssociationofRumShops #Barbados #Bajan #RumShops #Village #Rum #Food #Culture #heritage #Traditions #History #islandlife🌴

The classic “rum shop” is the quintessence of the warmth, flavor and spirit of the island. “. “This is Barbados.” Rum has been part of the rich history and identity of the island for more than 350 years. British author Richard Ligon first mentioned the drink when he arrived on Barbados in 1647, describing the spirit as “rumbullion, alias kill-divill… a hott hellish and terrible liquor”. Until tasting the liquid after shipping it to Europe, the smooth taste of aging was discovered. Rum bullion was soon shortened to “rum”, and today it remains a lifeblood of our island. “Rum is one of the pillars of Bajan culture". #BARSinc #bajanassociationofrumshops #BajanRumShop #RumShop #Culture #Heritage #Traditions #Rum #Rumbullion #killdevil #borthplaceofrum #Barbados

— BARBADOS — The story of rum begins in Barbados. Colonized by England in 1627, Barbados was the originator of sugar cane cultivation in the Caribbean. Rum is produced in 1642 and demand rapidly soars on the old European continent. Rum has already won the hearts of island sailors and is not new to the island of Barbados. Soon it wins the hearts of the English sailors. Legend has it that when the sailors return to England they offered gifts of rum from Barbados to prove that they had indeed crossed the Atlantic. The undisputed birthplace of rum, Barbados is an island dotted with windmills in ruins once used for grinding sugar cane to extract the juice. Eventually, the sugar industry begins to decline, but the island continues to produce excellent rums, distinguished by traditional local methods. Indeed, distillers have not completely abandoned the pot stills for column stills, and they are frequently found side by side. A special fermentation technique imbues local distilleries with rich and flavorful aromas. regram @bars_inc The Definition of Run: Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels. #BARSinc #BajanAssociationofRumShops #Barbados #Rum #RumShops #History #Heritage #Culture #RumHistory #sugarcane #sugar #molasses #fermentation #distillate #distillery #barrels

Thoughts become things... if you want big things, you must think big. From the time we were in grade school, we were taught to be realistic. We were told to pick a profession and asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" When we said we wanted to be the president, or travel to the moon, we were told "what about something more realistic?" I'm certainly not saying there's anything wrong with average jobs, that's not the point - the point is that we were constantly told to be REALISTIC; unfortunately, being realistic is the most commonly travelled road to mediocrity. If anyone tells you that your dreams are too big, I'm begging you to push back and tell them that they're thinking too small. The best thing about our thoughts is that we have 100% control over them. We become what we think about most often and we decide what we think about... Therefore, we decide what we become - let's become the people we always dreamed of👌 #thinkbig #Dreambig #goals #driven #success #think #grow #goaloriented #business #BARS_Inc #ArtofBartendingSeminars #StrictlyBajanRumShopTours #BajanAssociationofRumShops

Regram @bars_inc St Nicholas Abbey Based in a 350-year-old plantation, St Nicholas Abbey is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places in all of Barbados; the fact that it also houses a rum distillery is an added bonus. Owned and managed for centuries by absent English landlords, today St. Nicholas Abbey is owned by the Warren Family of Barbados, who have managed to make it self-sustaining through public tours and the sale of rum distilled on the plantation. The tour includes the main house – a Jacobean mansion from 1660 – as well as a rum and sugar museum, steam mill and distillery. The rum itself is aged for either ten or fifteen years, made to a traditional, authentic recipe with organic sugarcane and distilled in small batches. It’s one of the finest rums on the island, and to see it being created is a rare treat. #BARSinc #BajanAssociationofRumShops #StrictlyNajanRumShopTours #StNicholasAbbey #Barbados #Rum #Culture #Heritage #Traditions #Bajan #246
