regram @bars_inc Rum is a huge part of the Bajan history and culture, with many cultural heritage sites to discover the story of sugar and rum. . . Due to the islands mainly flat landscape and good soil, Barbados has successfully grown sugar from mid-17th century. Rum was actually first created, in very early form, by plantation slaves as they discovered that molasses (a byproduct of the sugar refining process) could be fermented into a crude liquor called ‘rumbillon’ . . In 1703, an English businessman set up the world’s first properly commercial rum distillery in Barbados which refined the liquor into delicious rum…That man was Sir John Gay, with the now world renowned Mount Gay Rum. #BARSinc #BajanAssociationofRumShops #Barbados #Bajan #Plantation #Slaves #Creators #CrudeLiquor #rumbillon #Rum #SugarCane #Sugar #Molassess #Distillery #History #Heritage #Culture #Traditions #BlackHistory #Black #Inventors #innovation #slavery

"Barbados’ Rum Shops". They are as much a part of the island as the pub is to Britain. Almost every village, however small, has one. The wooden buildings are usually painted in the bold livery of a sponsor – often a drink brand, maybe a mobile network – and are unmistakeable. They sell rum, of course, in shots or small bottles, along with food cooked to order. In the rural villages, they are the community centre, where everything from cricket to how to pay the electric bill is discussed. #BARSinc #BajanAssociationofRumShops #Barbados #Bajan #RumShops #Village #Rum #Food #Culture #heritage #Traditions #History #islandlife🌴

The classic “rum shop” is the quintessence of the warmth, flavor and spirit of the island. “. “This is Barbados.” Rum has been part of the rich history and identity of the island for more than 350 years. British author Richard Ligon first mentioned the drink when he arrived on Barbados in 1647, describing the spirit as “rumbullion, alias kill-divill… a hott hellish and terrible liquor”. Until tasting the liquid after shipping it to Europe, the smooth taste of aging was discovered. Rum bullion was soon shortened to “rum”, and today it remains a lifeblood of our island. “Rum is one of the pillars of Bajan culture". #BARSinc #bajanassociationofrumshops #BajanRumShop #RumShop #Culture #Heritage #Traditions #Rum #Rumbullion #killdevil #borthplaceofrum #Barbados

Winemaking or vinification, is the production of wine, starting with selection of the grapes or other produce and ending with bottling the finished wine. Although most wine is made from grapes, it may also be made from other fruits or plants. Mead is a wine that is made with honey being the primary ingredient after water. Winemaking can be divided into two general categories: still wine production (without carbonation) and sparkling wine production (with carbonation — natural or injected). The science of wine and winemaking is known as oenology. A person who makes wine is traditionally called a winemaker or vintner. #ArtofBartendingSeminars #BARSinc #Bartender #mixology Mixologist #training #education #learning #raisingthebar #wine🍷 #wineservicetraing

— BARBADOS — The story of rum begins in Barbados. Colonized by England in 1627, Barbados was the originator of sugar cane cultivation in the Caribbean. Rum is produced in 1642 and demand rapidly soars on the old European continent. Rum has already won the hearts of island sailors and is not new to the island of Barbados. Soon it wins the hearts of the English sailors. Legend has it that when the sailors return to England they offered gifts of rum from Barbados to prove that they had indeed crossed the Atlantic. The undisputed birthplace of rum, Barbados is an island dotted with windmills in ruins once used for grinding sugar cane to extract the juice. Eventually, the sugar industry begins to decline, but the island continues to produce excellent rums, distinguished by traditional local methods. Indeed, distillers have not completely abandoned the pot stills for column stills, and they are frequently found side by side. A special fermentation technique imbues local distilleries with rich and flavorful aromas. Solera is a process for aging liquids such as wine, beer, vinegar, and brandy, by fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing as the process continues over many years. The purpose of this labor-intensive process is the maintenance of a reliable style and quality of the beverage over time. Solera means literally "on the ground" in Spanish, and it refers to the lower level of the set of barrels or other containers used in the process; the liquid (traditionally transferred from barrel to barrel, top to bottom, the oldest mixtures being in the barrel right "on the ground"), although the containers in today's process are not necessarily stacked physically in the way that this implies, but merely carefully labeled. Products which are often solera aged include Sherry, Madeira, Lillet, Port wine, Marsala, Mavrodafni, Muscat, and Muscadelle wines; Balsamic, Commandaria, some Vins doux naturels, and Sherry vinegars; Brandy de Jerez; beer; rums; and whiskies. Since the origin of this process is undoubtedly out of the Iberian peninsula, most of the traditional terminology was in Spanish, Portuguese, or Catalan. #solera #aging #spirits #artofbartendingbarbados #artofbartendingseminars #BARSinc #education #leaningisfun #bartending #bartender #mixology #mixologist #training
