List of Book series that HBO/Max (or any other streaming service) could adapt into a popular show/franchise instead of making another tired reboot

(I am aware that there was an Artemis Fowl movie and I have elected to ignore that abomination the same way we ignored the Percy Jackson movies. Maybe a series could redeem it too)

Imagine an ACTUAL dragon going to teach the Bailey School Kids' art class and they go "No, I don't think he's a dragon. If he were a human man with spiky hair and sunglasses, MAYBE. But I don't see how this reptilian creature with wings and a tail teaching our art class could POSSIBLY be a dragon"

School is back in session and the Bailey School Kids (and staff members) know the best way to protect each other is by wearing a mask!
For all the bookworms and school staff still resisting eugenics and caring for our youth by continuing to mask.

[photo 1 id] Old 90’s cover of a Bailey School Kids book. The title is in green letters with a purple shadow: Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots. Underneath the title are lilac letters, with the first part obscured by a black and white comic speech bubble: meet the new teacher - she’s something else. In the center is Mrs. Jeepers, white teacher with red long hair tied back in a frizzy long ponytail. She is wearing a purple p100 respirator. She is also wearing a green choker with a jade gem in the center, and a pink polka dot dress with a green belt and silver buckle. There is a speech bubble to her left, and she is saying “Masks are a back to school must have!”. She is surrounded by her students, who are all sitting at their desks and looking at her from around the classroom. They are all wearing various N95 respirators. [end id]
[photo 2 id] Old 90’s cover of a Bailey School Kids book. The title is in white letters with a pink shadow: Werewolves don’t go to Summer Camp Underneath the title are yellow letters, mostly obscured by a black and white comic speech bubble: welcome to camp lone wolf…and beware! Slightly off center is Mr. Jenkins, a white camp counselor with reddish brown short hair, a beard, and hairy arms. He is wearing a blue p100 respirator. He is also wearing a red t-shirt that says camp lone world in yellow letters, blue jeans, and is barefoot. There is a speech bubble to his left, and he is saying “Help keep outdoor gatherings safer with a mask!”. He is sitting at a campfire with a few of his campers, some staring at him, and some looking at each other. They are all wearing various N95 respirators. [end id]
[photo 3 id] Old 90’s cover of a Bailey School Kids book. The title is in black letters with a navy shadow: Aliens don’t wear braces. Underneath the title are red letters, obscured by a black and white comic speech bubble: the new art teacher is pretty far-out! To the left is Mrs. Zork, a very pale white skinned art teacher with long white hair and short bangs. She is wearing a purple p100 respirator. She is also wearing a high collared white tunic, a black belt with a silver buckle, black leggings and thigh high black boots. There is a speech bubble to her right, and she is saying “Wear a mask to resist surveillance by the fascist state kids!”. She is sitting on a stool in an art classroom while painting a ceramic pot, and her students sit at a table to her left while staring up at her. They are all wearing various N95 respirators. [end id]
[photo 4 id] Old 90’s cover of a Bailey School Kids book. The title is in white letters with a red shadow: Dracula doesn’t drink lemonade. Underneath the title are white letters: could there be a new vampire at Bailey School? To the left is Mr. Drake, a very white, pale skinned guidance counselor with slick-backed black hair. He is wearing a white N95 respirator. He is also wearing a white collared shirt, black vest and black suit. He is holding a glass of lemonade with a straw up to his mask and there is a speech bubble underneath him: “My awesome sip airtight drinking valve keeps me hydrated!”. He is sitting on a bench cross-legged against a hallway while some students are looking over at him. They are all wearing various N95 respirators. [end id]

After seeing that post about the Bailey School Kids book, I noticed a difference between the original covers and the new ones:

Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the newer covers, it's clear that the monsters are actually monsters: there is no doubt that zombie is a real person.
In the original covers, the 'monsters' look a bit... off, but they could still be humans. It's the perfect balance: they do look a bit weird, but they could still pass for humans.
And that goes perfectly with how every Bailey School Kids ends: they never figure out if it was actually a monster.

I'm reading the Bailey School Kids book "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots" to my first graders. A group of kids become convinced that their teacher is secretly a vampire, but one student decides to be naughty on purpose (gasp!) because he doesn't believe it. The kids do some research and decide that their best chance of protecting their classmate is to sprinkle garlic salt all around the classroom.
Cut to the end of Library time. I have to walk this group down to the far side of the building for their next class. As we're passing through the lunchroom, one of the girls sucks in a huge breath through her nose.
"Miss Kate... Is that... garlic?"
It is in fact several hundred servings of cheesy garlic toast.
She sucks in another huge breath and blows it out like she's relieved. "Well, guess there won't be any vampires in OUR school today!"

My kids are going to grow up on a strict diet of Bailey School Kids, Pony Pals, and The Babysitters Club, supplemented now and then with the occasional Boxcar Children.

It's St. Patrick's Day, which means it's time to revisit Bailey School as we have a maybe-leprechaun, some maybe-lore, but no maybe that Eddie is a sociopath.

Another TV idea poll, this time for adaptations of childhood-fave book series (perhaps for PBSKids if they'd still be willing to do based-on-a-book shows as their lineup could use a refresh)
I know some of these might seem a little offbeat for even PBSKids but remember they've done non-Arthur animated sitcoms like Maya And Miguel and they did adaptations of stuff like Anne Of Green Gables and Redwall back in the day so while the darkest of these might still be lighter than Redwall if we can get them doing book adaptations again nothing's off the table kids-book-wise
So on PBSKids or a similar place whatever that might be, which book would you most want to see TV-adapted?
