If Baguio City is on your list for a holiday, vacation, or special occasion with family or friends, and you might be wondering if it’s the best choice among all your options. Don’t worry! I’m here to share some compelling reasons why Baguio should be your top pick. With so many beautiful destinations out there, it’s natural to have some doubts.
Plus, I’ll also provide you with a crucial tip to ensure your trip is not only enjoyable but truly memorable. So let’s dive into why Baguio City deserves a spot at the top of your travel list!
Baguio City has Something for Everyone
From its breathtaking landscapes and cool climate to its rich culture and vibrant local scene, Baguio offers a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re looking to explore stunning parks, indulge in delicious local cuisine, or simply unwind in a serene environment, Baguio has a lot to offer for everyone.
It's perfect for all types of travelers. Whether you're a nature lover, a culture enthusiast, adventure seekers, or simply looking for a place to relax, Baguio offers a diverse range of attractions and activities that cater to every interest.
Connect with Nature
Baguio City offers an enriching experience that deepens your appreciation for nature's beauty. The city is filled with stunning landscapes and a variety of tourist spots that make it easy to immerse yourself in its beauty such as Baguio Botanical Garden and Bamboo Sanctuary, where you can stroll through lush greenery and admire vibrant flowers. These locations are not only accessible and affordable, but they also present a diverse range of attractions.
Another must-visit is Mines View Park, which provides breathtaking views of the Cordillera Mountains and a glimpse into the city’s mining history. Here, you can even dress in traditional Ifugao attire for memorable photos.
Camp John Hay is another highlight, where you can hike along pine tree-lined trails, explore the Butterfly Sanctuary, or enjoy thrilling activities like zip-lining at the Treetop Adventure. The camp's serene atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for picnics or leisurely strolls.
A Chilly Spot with Hidden Gem Cafes
For those who enjoy a cozy atmosphere, Baguio is home to numerous hidden gem cafes that offer not just great coffee but also stunning views of calm, green nature. Places like Rockyard Cafe, Vanilla Cafe, Choco-late De Batirol and many more provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation.
Imagine sipping your favorite drink while surrounded by picturesque landscapes—it's a unique experience you won't want to miss. These cafes are perfect spots for romantic dates, capturing beautiful moments, or simply enjoying meaningful conversations with loved ones.
Immerse Yourself with the City's Creativity and Art
If you're an art enthusiast, Baguio is a treasure haven of creativity and craftsmanship that will leave you in awe. The city is renowned for its rich traditions in crafts, folk art expressions, woodcarving, silver craft, weaving, and tattooing, reflecting the unique heritage of the Cordillera region.
One of the best places to immerse yourself in this artistic culture is the BenCab Museum, celebrated as the ultimate art destination in Baguio. Here, you can explore masterpieces from various renowned artists, including the works of National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, the owner of the place itself. The museum not only highlights contemporary art but also features indigenous crafts and sculptures, as well as the history of the Cordillera tribes.
Another lively hub of art and creativity is the Artist Village Tour at Ili-Likha Artist Village, which showcases the works of local artists. They have transformed old structures into vibrant galleries, studios, and workshops. If you're curious and want to witness their creative processes firsthand, you'll have to chance to engage with these talented individuals.
Feel the Beat of Christmas
Now that the "bermonths" have arrived, the Baguio City Country Club Christmas Village is officially open, making it a perfect destination for family and friends to experience the true joy of togetherness and the festive spirit of Christmas. This enchanting village features vibrant displays of Christmas lights, colorful decorations, and artificial snow, creating a magical atmosphere. With Baguio's cool climate, you'll feel as though you're in another country, enhancing the holiday vibe.
A Budget-Friendly Vacation Spot
Baguio City is a fantastic budget-friendly vacation spot that offers a wealth of experiences and memories. While only few tourist attractions have been mentioned, there are countless more waiting to be explored. It may seem like a small place to travel, but when you explore the place itself, you'll gather experiences and memories that make it truly worthwhile. You'll realized,
"𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒕."- 𝑫𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝑽𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒈
Financial concerns shouldn't hold you back, as the city provides affordable accommodations, low transportation costs, and reasonably priced food options.
A crucial tip for maximizing your experience is to consider booking with a local travel company that offers exclusive and personalized Baguio tour packages. I recommend Peak-A-Trip Travel & Tours, known for its affordability and excellent customer service. This way, you can relax with your family or friends without worrying about fitting in all the popular tourist spots during your stay.
With their services, you won’t have to stress over planning or preparing for your trip. They handle everything from itineraries to transportation and even provide a tour coordinator or camera assistant to capture your memorable moments.
This is your sign to travel to Baguio City. It's time for you to giddily share your thoughts with others when they ask, "Anong kwento ng Baguio mo?"
Don’t miss the chance for an unforgettable experience on your next trip to the City of Pines.

SG, Japan, HK top int’l travel destinations for Filipinos, says travel app Klook
According to a consumer trends survey conducted by travel site Klook, Singapore (HG), Japan, and Hong Kong (HK) are the favored overseas destinations for Filipinos due to proximity and visa exemptions. Klook reported that compared to February 2019, app downloads were up 22% in February 2023. The fourth quarter of 2022 saw a 62% increase in bookings over the previous quarter. When compared to pre-pandemic levels, monthly reservations are expected to rise by 27% by the end of the year, according to Michelle Ho, general manager for Klook in the Philippines and Thailand. This growth will be driven by both domestic and international travel. At a conference on March 14, she stated, "Locally, the usual suspects like Manila Ocean Park, Sky Ranch Tagaytay, and Boracay packages would continue to push the development. In order to better digitalize local tourism and promote recovery, Klook also announced that it would be stepping up some of its more recent initiatives to focus on emerging locations in addition to well-known ones. Klook Pass is an all-in-one digital pass that bundles together activities like island hopping, spa appointments, and hotel stays for a price that is around 30 to 40% less than when bought separately. It was first introduced during the pandemic and is currently only accessible in Boracay and Cebu. Ms. Ho also stated that the platform intended to create more pass kinds, such as a family pass, a foodie pass, and a pass for visits outside of those two cities. She said that Klook currently offers access to 21 cities in the Philippines, up from less than 12 places before the pandemic. "There's a lot we can do with the technology, and we intend to ratchet it up for the year to come," she said. They intend to develop secondary destinations like La Union, Baguio, Batangas, Iloilo, and Bacolod rather than focusing heavily on excursions and attractions. The top destination at the time, according to Ms. Ho, was Boracay. However, she added, "because of the pandemic, we want to accelerate domestic travel through other destinations too." Back then, Ms. Ho said, "our mindset was going for destinations with potential for domestic and inbound travelers like Koreans and Chinese." The newest product from Klook, Klook Hotels, also includes hotel stays so that customers can conveniently reserve their rooms for a trip. Ulla Rosanne K. Sy, head of marketing at Klook Philippines, said that it will be followed by Klook Stay Plus, which will debut this year and allow hotel rooms to be combined with meals and activities. Ms. Sy stated, "We want to push this to complement our major business, which is tours and attractions. According to Klook's survey, 87% of Filipinos are keen to travel. According to platform statistics, domestic destination reservations increased by 87% in November 2022 compared to the same month in 2019. Also, respondents stated that they prefer lengthier holidays of approximately six to nine days when traveling abroad (44%). Three to five-day stays come next (40%), then stays lasting ten days or longer (38%), and finally stays lasting one to two days (15%). Ms. Ho attributed the willingness to travel more and for longer to the increased access Filipinos have to travelling. Since more people are becoming tech-literate, travel has become even more accessible to customers, and according to her, this digital change is significantly accelerating the expansion of tourism in the area. Ultimate Vigan Escape: Budget DIY Itinerary for Ilocos Sur Tour
[ TAKEOFFPHILIPPINES.com ] A great time to end my month-long vacation on this New7Wonders in the World, Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Its rich history made it to the list of the Unesco Heritage Site as this city was established roughly 16th century now but still, the preservation of the architectural design are visible in the city even on their urban development program.
The main attraction of tourist here in Vigan is its preservation of almost 187 ancestral house in town, colonial structured churches, donation-driven museums, a free-roaming zoo and local Ilocano restaurants which is a must visit.
It was an exciting trip that I can’t forget as this was our first trip together with Gab going up north in Ilocos Region. It was really tiring but fun at the same time as we were simply backpackers. You can roam around the city within 2 - 3 days. We’ve got to experience The Ultimate Vigan Escape for a rough estimate of Php 5,000.
Here are a travel guide and a sample DIY itinerary going to Vigan if your planning to visit this city soon.
Where to Ride Going to Vigan?
As Vigan is located here in Luzon, we can either go for a land or air transportation. There are many Vigan Tour Package offerings on every travel agency that you could try. It may include a van going to Vigan for an easy and worry-free trip but As for us, we decided to ride a bus. We felt that the best way to enjoy the trip is to experience riding it on the public transportation.
We tried Partas Bus using their Online Booking System. There are several bus companies you can try on your Vigan trip but since convenience is our priority we ride on a Partas Bus. I recommend their good and fast service on accommodating our concern during our trip.
Express Bus Via TPLEX Fare: Php 760.00 (1 route, 5 - 6 hours travel time, 1 Stopover in between)
Riding a Partas First Class Express got us the following privileges:
Cuts your travel time by up to 4 hours! (Pasay to Laoag)
No passenger pick-ups along the road
Only one stopover
TPLEX

Air-conditioned
Our Terminal Origin Address:
Aurora Blvd. cor. Edang St., Pasay City, Metro Manila. This terminal is along Tramo and alongside Five Star terminal.

Touring Around Vigan: Mode of Transportation
Vigan is a capital in Ilocos Sur that you can encapsulate your activities with just a day or two since its just a small town. Tourist spots along the Vigan proper are walking distance from each other but always prepare yourselves with a big bottled water and umbrella since the scorching heat of the sun is very imminent. Places like Baluarte, River Cruise, Mindoro Beach, Bantay Church Bell Tower seems to need to go for a ride since its a bit far.
The main transportation used by people here is either the tricycle or a kalesa (horse-drawn carriages). If you’re looking for a more intimate time I would suggest riding a kalesa to enjoy the scenery but if you have limited time like us I would prefer riding a tricycle.
Tricycle Fee: Php 20 - up (Depends on the distance)
Kalesa Fee: starts at Php 150
Where to Stay in Vigan?
While exploring the streets of Vigan, we’ve noticed that each corner has numerous choice of hotels, inns and transient houses. Name it! You won’t have any problems looking for one. All you have to do is to be keen in looking for more affordable and cheaper rooms from the internet.
Luckily we found the right tool to search for affordable hotels in Vigan by using Traveloka. Traveloka helps you book your hotels and flights in less than 5 minutes with just a click away. They even had promos that you can use while booking. You can check their website or download their app on Android and IOS to try it first hand on this travel booking app.
Since we want to visit all the well-known tourist spots around Vigan City with less cost but still has a decent accommodation we landed on Mel Sol’s Inn and Resort at Bantay, Ilocos Sur, a 5-6 minutes tricycle ride from Vigan Proper.
Mel Sol’s Inn and Resort
Address: National Highway Metro Vigan, Bantay, Vigan City
Phone: 0917 571 2888
When in Vigan: Where to Go?
We arrived at Vigan earlier than expected, we didn’t foresee that our bus has a new that's why we have ample time to roam around and go to church to start our Sunday with a positive outlook.
Simbaan A Basit
Liberation Blvd, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
It is located at the edge of a Cemetery in Vigan. According to history, the cemetery chapel was built over a century now and it is dedicated to Santo Cristo also known in Ilocos as “Apo Lakay” who is believed to save Vigan’s populace from a plague in 1756 and 1882.
The chapel’s marker bears that the cemetery was blessed by Rev. Vicente Barreiro on Nov. 9, 1852 but the chapel’s interior now looks modern with all the repairs done through the years. Its name "Simbaan a Bassit" literally means "Small Church", since it’s a small it can only accommodate up to 100 people.
Vigan Heritage Village - Calle Crisologo
Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
After a mass at Simbaan A Basit, we decided to stroll around Vigan and search the well known Vigan Heritage Village wherein it was considered as a UNESCO Heritage Site as it helps out preserved the culture and history of Ilocos Region.
You can explore those old houses with a century older than me by riding a Kalesa (horse wagon) or by simply walking on the streets, as it also helps out burn some calories. It is much appreciated during the night as you can feel the romantic ambiance and stunningly beautiful light post in the area.
Mostly you can have your dinner on this streets as they have plenty restaurants to choose from and buy some cool stuffs on souvenir shops.
Vigan Cathedral / St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral
Burgos St., Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
After not so far from Vugan Heritage Village you can visit again a nearby church. Vigan Cathedral, It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. It serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.
According to history, The church itself was built in 1641 to replace the chapel and became a cathedral when the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia was transferred here from Lal-lo, Cagayan in 1758, but not before being ravaged by a fire in 1739.
The Cathedral of Vigan, as it is sometimes called, is a stunning tribute to Baroque architecture modified by the Ilocanos to survive earthquakes. It also has a bit of Chinese influence thanks to the carvings of lion dogs beside the outermost doors.
Plaza Salcedo
Plaza Salcedo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Right in front of Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral is the Plaza Salcedo, named after the Spanish conqueror, Juan de Salcedo who subdued the early native settlement in Vigan and established upon it Villa Fernandina for the monarchs of Spain in 1572. With this, Juan de Salcedo founded the third of many Hispanic settlements in the Philippines. Plaza Salcedo was the site of the execution of Gabriela Silang in September 1763.
According to history, the plaza was susceptible to fire during the Spanish regime. So the plan then was to create a man-made lagoon to minimize fire incidents. The original concept dating back several years ago is retained until March 2013 wherein a dramatic addition has been added to the once quiet and laid back park in between the Vigan Cathedral and the Ilocos Sur Capitol. The addition is a majestic dancing fountain.

The next time you're out out and about and searching to grab a chew, look at chowing down on the nearby Japanese restaurant. Refreshing sushi and sashimi are full of healthy proteins, really low in extra fat, plus very scrumptious. Salmon, for example, is incredibly rich in vitamin D and omega-3 essential fatty acids.

After a 2D1N trip, your Brave Travelers just got their first travel together! For more detailed review for each destination, please stay tuned to our next updated blogs.
Special thanks to Biyaheroes for a very convenient online bus booking and their partner, Pangasinan Solid North for the best bus experience I've ever had.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
To enjoy your stay at the City of Pines, you can prepare this B-E T-I-P-I-D checklist that we made just for you:
BOOKINGS How To Book Your Trips Hassle-Free? 7Before going to Baguio, since its a peak season, you must book your bus tickets and room accommodation in advance. Special thanks to Biyaheroes for a very convenient online bus booking and their partner, Pangasinan Solid North for the best bus experience I've ever had. Also, to Belshang Lodge, the homestay where we rest and took private time together. 😉 Favorite part of the lodge is their rooftop where you can take pictures of different views.
How to book your trips online? chech here, Biyaheroes Bus Schedules and Bus features: check here, Pangsinan Solid North FILE423
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
EXPENSES How Much Do You Need To Spend? 8Simply set your budget. Expect that foods in Baguio will be a little more costly than normal. 250php/head per meal is enough. If you're planning a DIY trip, bring 3,000php/head and up for an all-in expense. But if I were you, I must have availed tour packages offered online (e.g. tours.biyaheroes.com) for only 999 and invite friends to come with me to save more and to have more convenient transfers.
TRAVEL TIME How Long It Takes? 9Since in every plan, there will always be DRAWINGS, you must set the most convenient date and time for both of you. As for me and Boone, we arrived at Baguio on Dec 20, 7 AM and departed on Dec 21, 4PM. I think it was a good time since 20 was a weekday when most working people are still on duty.
Estimate Travel Time: 5 - 6 hours ITINERARY. Plan each destination. Since we're caught in the rainy weather of Baguio, we decided to stay in our room and planned the places to go the next day. Don't forget to install your Waze app using Mimiyuh's voice and "Skkrrttt!" all the way! It's an absolute stress reliever for Brave Travelers like you.
PICTURES & ADVENTURES WHAT TO DO? 10Save more memories than pictures but don't forget to take at least one per destination. Let those pictures be proof of the memories you made together that you can look back on as you grow old. All we need are phone, monopod, tripod, and clicker to get your Instagramable sweet moments together.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Place to visit in BAGUIO:
Tam-awan Village Baguio Musuem Burnham Park Wright Park SM Baguio Valley of Color La Trinidad Strawberry Farm and more!
baguiobaguio1
INTEGRATE WITH PEOPLE 11Like what I did, whenever I brought a pasalubong on each stall, I keep on requesting to pick one from their bunks of strawberries and it's ok for them as long as you buy from them, of course. Just say 'Thank You!' and don't forget to greet them a 'Merry Christmas!'
You're all set! You can now enjoy the 14 degree Celsius average temperature of the Philippines' very own Summer Capital. Enjoy your trip Brave Travelers!

Breeze of Baguio
Honestly, Baguio is one of my fond place I wanted to go with. I am very fascinated with her beauty that I'd only seen on the internet, tabloids, and watched on Television which I looked forward to go with which having a chance to see the wonders and of course, to feel within my skin their notorious and very popular cold weather is quite complicated in many aspect: Time, energy and money.
This trip was actually unplanned. When my former team mate asked me if I want to go and hang out with him there, I’d never hold back to say 'yes' cause damn! I wanted and dreaming it for a very long time. It may sound silly and childish to some but I ecstatically accept the offer cause why not? If you think you deserve some getaway, why bother to give it to yourself? I accept the offer despite of making an excruciating decision of going on to this trip without filing a vacation leave, but somehow its worth of risk. I think using only your off-days is not enough, you should allot at least one vacation if you want to explore and experience the Baguio moment for long time. I regret not to prolong my stay because it hypes, cliff-hang and trigger my drive to crave with more trips and exploration but the good thing is making things unplanned and let the time nicking to create abstract on how should be ended was wonderful and extra fun at the same time. I know, in ahead, I will have a chance to roam there with a plenty time. Maybe I will include Sagada as well.
From Cubao terminal 11:40 pm of friday, we bought our tickets pricing Php. 485 ($9.35) for trip to baguio with stopover but you can avail their one way trip or deluxe package with bathroom in the bus which cost a little bit expensive. We arrived in our transient house at almost 5:00 am in the morning, which is not our arrival time making our stay-in fee cost with addition because we check in very early but its not that heavy if you add a little, if you want to really save big, arrived on what the owner expect you to check in. Moreover, the price of transient varies, in our case we come up with Php. 700 ($13.49) per head (1Night stay) (The extension of hour excluded) but I hear some transients offers only ranging Php. 400 (7.71$) per head (1Night). If you good in bargaining, and no contact there to stay lot of strangers within the vicinity of Baguio terminal once you arrive will offer you wide range of their promos.
The Trip
This is tiring yet fun quick side-trip. My friend toured me with some of their basic landmarks and I'm happy with the outcomes, we may not have chance to visit some of their very commend highlight destination due to time constrain, I'm still happy to step on the grounds of their popular landmarks my friend and that also the one brought me there can't hold back to spill his sentiments about some spot in the city which underwent a drastic change making it little underwhelming and he can't help to compare how it should look like before than now. I can't blame him but that's how the process of progression work which make it a little different, and the idea of maintaining the grace and nostalgia of old looks is complex. This sudden shift of change makes it a little 'nah' in some but I’m not mad at all and this trip actually not went bad, fascination and my awe to have here still dominate. Despite of not given a chance to went on most hotspot attraction due to time constraint, Baguio still satisfies me. If you just want a little break like this just to cleanse your mind with some positivity and stressed out yourself with pressure of the world, probably this place and little time given is 'must to go' action plan. This is quick and penny saving trip. 🤗
One of the factors to enjoy Baguio if you have plans to go there is to pick a perfect place to stay in. My friend is very good on choosing a perfect transient which is convenient with cheap price. If chose a place near the vicinity of some attractions you have a easy access to their popular places making it more walk-in friendly but if you want to experience deluxe lifestyle while staying here, hotel accommodation is widely accessible. In our case, with simple needs and demand, transient is a great choice. Squad getaway is also perfect with transient option which make it a lot cheaper than less than two people.
Burnham Park is like a usual classic park we grown with and usually go to place to have some fitness routines or meet somebody but for me, this place has a extra-special characteristic which make it a little different with typical park I already went in. Its already given that city parks created to have perfect blast of fun or to have a family get together and picnic with your friends, but what astonished me is how this park maintain her solemnity despite of busy atmosphere. Parks usually annoys me when it became crowded; full of PDA's and loud noises. But here? I don't know, it's relaxing, maybe the cold weather here added up the factor of calmness. Is there any scientific explanation about it or it is just me being appreciative and naive about the place? But what matters? This place is perfect to begin your mood.
Mines View Park is also fun. The overview of city below and their fuzzy haze gives it a little charm of enchantment. Some local residence there use the opportunity of goers having a shot to take some photographs to promote their local and traditional brands such as clothing and snacks. Do I get exaggerated when I see it like I get gaga and insane when I saw the place? Honestly, no but it's good and her beauty is understatement. Perfect place to begin your over the top view selfies.
(I will edit this soon and include the photo once its sent to me)
Baguio Botanical Garden the place is instagram friendly and if you are nature lover, maybe you will get in love. But I don't see any astonishing there except with the cave close for public.
The second thing you have to look after is the Church Bell. I had much fun there. I saw some kids doing some basic traditional Chinese martial arts. Though they still considered as novice in the practice, I see their dedication to learn the discipline of that kind of exhibition. Now I’m prepping myself to stretch some muscle so I could go along with them, kidding!
And oh! The Mansion which is known as summer residence of Philippine President wayback. So far, the gate is more accessible for the public viewing and good place to shot some angle with their wide mountain like landscape.
Baguio is also know for mysteries infrastructure involve in America War. The infamous Laperal House which is ‘allegedly’ haunted by their former residence which many known Local TV shows already featured it and some of their claims that the place has a level of paranormal activity which is not totally validated despite of some clear and unexplained footage.
The Diplomat Hotel is also one of those 'haunted' place for Paranormal geeks. This place allegedly haunted where this 'ghost nun' caught on camera by one of the goers doing a montage of her travels.
There's a lot of places to go in Baguio and lot of them is very promising. If I had a perfect chance to go back, I'll definitely redocument that on this blog and here's are some things I'd missed and maybe you should try when you stop by there:
The good sheppered goodies and their infamous ube jams! Which unfortunately I haven't chance to avail due to Yam supply scarcity and the effect of climate change. Sad.
The strawberry picking in La Trinidad which is fun according to some hearsays.
The Night Market with great deals and perfect time to buy our ultimate OOTD with affordable prices.
...and the list goes on, if you have anything to add just comment below.
And that's it. Hope you enjoy reading, see you guys on next entry.

Byaheng Baler: Womanlalaboy's Travel Guide to Baler, Aurora
SUMMARY
Type of Travel: DIY Date of Travel: most recent visit is Feb 2019 Duration: 4D 3N Budget: P4, 200 - P6, 000 Where we stayed at: Rushie’s Point
I've been to Baler a couple of times and I have to admit: I haven't seen everything there is to explore yet. It's so massive and rich in natural resources, activities, interesting people, culture and history, you'll never run out of treasures to discover and experience. Nothing less to expect from a place nestled by the mountains of Sierra Madre and touched by the Pacific Ocean.
Most travelers visit Baler for 2 days and a night just to try surfing and of course tour around Baler and it’s neighboring towns. A few would stay another night to maximize their visit, but we always visit Baler for 4-days and 3-nights to chill, surf and catch up with the local friends we’ve made there.

Long itinerary, I know. We did the tours on our first stay in Baler, but the next few visits were mostly filled with surfing, road trips, drinking and eating. The friends we’ve made there were just so fun to hang around with that we always treat them to drinking; we always end up laughing and singing the nights away. So, needless to say, most of our budget went to food and drinks which we could simply cut had we restrained ourselves from abusing our livers.
HOW TO GET THERE
Primary route: Genesis Transport Service Cubao > Baler Terminal
Alternate route 1: Any bus from Cubao bound for Cabanatuan Central Terminal, Nueva Ecija (Five Star Bus, Cubao Terminal, ES Transport) > Cabanatuan Central Terminal > Baler Terminal
From Cabanatuan Central Terminal, you can board any of these buses: D-liner, Lizardo lines, PUVans, Maria Aurora bus lines, Ma. Aurora Express, Genesis transport
Alternate route 2: From Baguio City, board any of these buses: D-liner, Lizardo lines
Genesis Transport Service offers various bus transport options. They have the standard air-conditioned buses, commonly called as Genesis buses that travels for 7 hours with 3 stop overs for P450 fare. They also have luxury buses, commonly called as Joy buses that travel for 4 to 4 1/2 hours with no stop overs, but they have toilets inside. The price would depend on class:
Deluxe: P750/trip with free water, snacks, morning kit, blanket, pillow, and WiFi Semi-deluxe: P630/trip with free water, snacks and blanket
We basically went for the cheapest way to get to Baler and that is to take the standard Genesis bus from Cubao. We had to endure 7 hours of travel that could get at around 4 hours had we chosen to ride Joy bus. All was well, though. We spared some money that we can splurge on food and drinks. On our way back, we chose to board an Aurora Bus bound for Cabanatuan and from Cabanatuan, we boarded a bus to Cubao. That route proved to be cheaper than boarding a bus straight from Baler to Cubao.
SAMPLE BUDGET
900 - Transportation (depends on where you'll come from and what type of transportation you’ll avail) 375- Tour (will depend on how many tours you’ll get and how many are you in the group) 1600 - Accommodation per head (room for 4D 3N for 3 pax) 700 - Surfing lesson (2 sessions) 1000- Food and beverages ________________________________
4375- TOTAL
The budget is easy to play around with. Basically, you have a fixed allocation for your main transportation and your accommodation. Your budget would depend on what type of room you’ll get, for how long you’ll choose to stay, how many tours you’re gonna get, how many surf lessons you’re gonna avail, and how many are you in a group. Lodging by group proved to be the most sulit way as you can get rooms at a price you can divide among each other. The same goes with food, drinks and tour packages. Most inns and hostels have shared kitchen so you can just buy your food in the market or straight from fishermen and cook your own food. We do this with our boodle fights and breakfasts.

WHERE TO STAY
A friend referred us to someone who dealt with our accommodation. We first stayed at Rushie’s Point- a beach front lodging with a bar/pub, and a few huts. We went on an off-season so we only had to shell out around 1, 600/head for 3pax for 4D 3N. Contact them directly for rates and reservation policy.
We then made a friend with someone who has a kubo and a few surf boards for rent so on our future visits, Kuya Danny Boy’s kubo became our go-to place.

POINTS OF INTEREST:
Sabang Beach
This long stretch of shoreline facing the Pacific ocean is probably the most visited place in Baler. Friendly to newbies in surfing, most travelers conquer their fear of riding waves at Sabang. We usually surf in front of Tower (Near Nalu) and in front of Frus Oyat.
Century Old “Millennium” Balete Tree
Found in the town of Maria Aurora, you can marvel at the largest Balete tree in Asia that is said to have existed for more than 600 years now. It’s so enormous that you can go inside its tangled maze.
LT. James Gilmore Marker
At the corner of San Luis St. and Rizal St. stands the Lt. James Gilmore marker. He was the commander of the USS Gunboat ‘Yorktown’. He and his men were captured by insurgent forces save two (2) who were instantly killed and two (2) mortally wounded. Lt. James Gilmore and the survivors were taken to Nueva Ecija and then to Northern Luzon where they were later rescued by American forces and taken to Manila.
San Luis Obispo Parish (Baler Catholic Church)
The Baler Catholic Church is the site where the Siege of Baler happened. Filipino revolutionaries laid siege to the fortified church manned by colonial Spanish troops in the Philippines for 11 months, or 337 days.
Museo De Baler
The town proper is filled with reminders of the past and Museo De Baler is definitely a place to visit. Several artifacts are to be found in the museum- from riffles used by the Spaniards, journals , military uniforms of both the colonizers and the FIlipinos, letters, books, drawings. The museum also features the cold cast facade made by sculptor Toym Imao, the son of National Artist for the Visual Arts Abdulmari Imao.
Doña Aurora Ancestral House
The fee for checking out Museo De Baler includes a pass to Doña Maria’s ancestral house. The province of Aurora is named after the beloved first lady, Aurora Antonia Aragón Quezon who was born in Baler. Photos of the President Manuel L. Quezon, Doña Aurora and their family is preserved in the ancestral house as well as some old furniture.
Quezon Memorial Park
Manuel L. Quezon has a replicated nipa hut in Quezon Memorial Park. It also features the presidential car he used during his term and a 230-kilo bronze statue of him by Julie Lluch at the center of the park.
Ermita Hill
When the tsunami called Tromba Marina devoured Baler, the survivors went up to Ermita Hill situated in Mt. Dibudalan at Sitio Dicaloyungan, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora. This place has a view of Baler Bay, Dima-Dimalangat and Aniao Islets.
Caunayan Falls
This gem is located in Pimentel, San Luis, Aurora and requires to be trekked, but compared to Ditumabo, the time you’ll spend trekking towards the falls is relatively smaller. If your guide knows the place well, he’ll be able to drop you off somewhere closer.
Diguisit Falls
A few minutes away, you’ll be able to sample Diguisit Falls at Sitio Diguisit, Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora. It’s right beside the road and has to be climbed first. It can get really slippy and muddy at times so people are advised to be very careful when climbing Diguisit Falls.
Diguisit Beach and Rock Formations
We had a picnic here when we celebrated Dan’s victory at the 11th Aurora Surfing Challenge. He won the long board division and celebrated by Diguisit Beach. I’m not sure if we got a discount, but we only got a cottage for P100.00
Baler Fish port
Baler Fish port can be found in Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora- the perfect place to chill at.
Baler Hanging Bridge
This bridge was originally made to accommodate the students of ASCOT. For a minimum donation of P5, you can see the view of Tibag-Sabang River and bring with you the bragging right of literally crossing a river.
Dicasalarin Cove
We’ve never been here yet, but we were told that there’s a fee of P300 per person to experience this privately owned cove by the Angaras. The road towards Dicasalarin is also a fun-filled one since you’ll be able to see the sea while you’re on your way to the cove.
WHERE TO EAT
We ‘re really used to doing boodle fights and cooking our own food whenever we can, but there are times when we’re just too tired to go to the market and cook, so we always visit the same places to eat. Basically, our go-to breakfast is either El Teodoro for their Tapa flakes and Nalu Surf Camp for their breakfast meals. If you like a huge variety of options, try Rolling Store, a series of karinderias or turo-turo located in the town proper. We’ve also had dinners at Yellow Fin- a little pricey, but every order can be shared within a group of 4.
NOTES
Be responsible with your trash. There aren’t many trash bins by the beach so it’s best to bring your trash with you and throw them in a bin once you get to your hotel/lodging.
Baler people are the most hospitable and most humble people I’ve ever met. Make friends with the locals and hear their stories.
Listen to your instructor/s.
Do boodle fights.
